JOY (ANONYMOUS) Announce 2023 Tour of Australia and New Zealand
By Jules LeFevre
South London duo JOY (ANONYMOUS) have locked in a string of tour dates across Australia and New Zealand this November. The duo will kick things off with a set at Strawberry Fields festival in Tocumwal on Sunday, 19th November, before playing some headline dates at Corner Hotel in Melbourne and the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney.
The duo – comprising Henry Counsell and Louis Curran – will then hop over the ditch and play two shows in New Zealand. They’ll hit the San Fran in Wellington, and finally Auckland’s Studio on Saturday, 25th November. Check out the full list of dates below.
JOY (ANONYMOUS): ‘Head To The Sky’
JOY (ANONYMOUS) have spent large chunks of 2023 supporting their mate Fred Again.. . They’ve also played shows alongside Skrillex , Jyoty , and The Blessed Madonna . In July the duo dropped a new track called ‘Head to the Sky’, which began life in the basement of Imogen Heap’s house.
“We started this tune with our friends Barney and Fred in the basement of Imogen Heap’s house,” the duo said. “Barney had this sample of ‘Optimistic’ by Sounds Of Blackness and we took it from there. We started playing it out in different forms over the past year and it quickly became the Joy Anonymous anthem.
“The original sample expresses overcoming problems by keeping on, and keeping your head up. We wanted to keep that feeling in this record and by its reaction, people get that same feeling when hearing it today.”
The duo’s last full-length release was 2021’s Human Again . They’re set to drop the follow-up later this year.

Hug a giant toy bunny or step into a nineties video store at this colourful large-scale exhibition
Time Out says
The Immigration Museum on Flinders Street is getting its first major exhibition in several years and it’s all about leaning into what makes us happy. The exhibition, called Joy , will run through until August 29, 2025.
Joy features seven brand new commissioned installations from leading Victorian-based creatives, each expressing the artists’ own personal joy. You can expect an emotive adventure where colour and storytelling combine, and big happy moments that sit alongside more reflective ones.
Experience the vibrant power of joy as you walk amongst room-sized interactive artworks, or contribute your own joy with the collaborative ‘share your joy’ wall.
Venezuelan-born Australian artist Nadia Hernández has filled the Immigration Museum’s hallway with bold collage works, ‘future positive’ fashion designer Nixi Killick has created a ‘joy generator’ and queer artist Spencer Harrison has created a runway where you can strut your stuff.
Jazz Money , a Wiradjuri poet and artist, has fused sculpture, audio and mural for a work reflecting the history of the museum site, while local artist Beci Orpin has taken over a room with a giant toy rabbit made to be hugged. Afghanistan-Australian visual artist and poet Elyas Alavi and Sher Ali have also created a large-scale mural illustrating a Persian myth.
Lastly, much-loved pop artist and designer Callum Preston has constructed a full-scale replica of a nineties video store, a joy he never thought he would miss until he realised it was gone.
Entry to Joy is included in the museum’s entry price, which is $15 for adults, $10 for kids and free for children and concession holders. Find out more and get tickets here .

For an introduction in the stately hallway of the ground floor, Nadia Hernández celebrates ‘contidianidad’ (everydayness) by heroing the comforts and rituals that constitute her diasporic connections and relationships in Que te puedo decir, asi son las cosas.
Pops of colour and people’s personal stories about what joy means to them will lead visitors up to the second floor where Spencer Harrison asks people to strut their true selves unapologetically beneath iridescent jewels in Bring it to the Runway, Runway. Beci Orpin evokes her childhood bedroom in rural Victoria with a soft toy on steroids in Bunny Dearest, and Callum Preston opens a portal into a 90s happy place with Video Land.
Also on the second floor, Jazz Money presents joy as a radical act to stand up against oppression in Our Laughter Will Become the Waterfall , Nixi Killick explodes a psychedelic colour bomb to fan the flames of optimism and elation in Joy Generator, and Elyas Alavi (with Sher Ali) shares the beautiful Persian myth of a mystical giant bird through neon and paint In search of the Simurgh.
Commenting on the exhibition, Lynley Crosswell, CEO & Director of Museums Victoria, remarked, “Joy continues the journey initiated by the much-adored Love exhibition in 2018, embracing stories of identity, belonging, and togetherness.”
Supported by Colour Partner Taubmans and Flooring Partner Godfrey Hirst and GH Commercial, the exhibition promises a vibrant celebration of joy, a testament to the resilience and creativity of the human spirit.
Tickets are included with museum entry – Adults: $15 | Seniors: $10 Concession: Free | Children: Free – on sale at Immigration Museum and online here .

South London duo Joy (Anonymous) make their debut on Australian shores this spring, where they will bring their insatiable electronic sound which makes for the most joyous night of your life. More than synonymous with happiness, Joy (Anonymous ) were born out of a series of pop-up parties in London during COVID, inspiring excitement and hope in a time when both were in short supply and brining people together through community and music.
Joy have now taken that ethos and experience globally, now known for their meet ups in cities across the world, whether a pop up on the River Seine in Paris or a late night club in Sao Paolo, the one thing that remains constant is the incredible reaction they receive, down the the electronic music community.
With a recent string of dancefloor heaters, like JOY (God Only Knows) taking the Betty Everett version of iconic song to dance floors everywhere, JOY (404) which has now become a standout of Joy’s live sets, a song that moves between house and dub elements, featuring Joy’s signature vocals before breaking down into a burst of rapid fire junglism that recalls the golden-age of raving. And now their latest single JOY (Head To The Sky) a power-house, with platforming hard hitting house rhythms. You can guarantee an amazing night with Joy (Anonymous) original music and edits crossing all genres.
Joy Anonymous has a new album coming later this year which you will be able to experience live, with their high energy, buoyant expression infecting anyone in their crowds.
