MTA was a phenomenal company, and saw to my every request. As I traveled privately during a surge in the pandemic, there was added stress related with social distancing and testing, but MTA assisted me with finding test sites, transportation, and safe mask expectations. Amazing tour! We are family of four, with 2 daughters (8 and 5 years old), who dared to go to Leh in December. We had a great time and learned a lot from our guide Lotus. He was very knowledgeable and always passionate to share and discuss about everything we asked (and with our girls there were a lot of questions). We were lucky with weather, as it was always sunny and not that cold during the day. We really liked our hotel (The Grand Dragon Ladakh) with great food and really nice cozy rooms. I really enjoyed my tour. This is a very remote area with unique culture and nature. I 've been there at the beginning of April before the tourist season starts, so I enjoyed the absence of crowds. However, nights were very cold, some hotels did not have heating, so hot bottles were my best friends. During the day the weather were beautiful, sunny. I enjoyed snow on the passes we crossed. My guide and driver were excellent. People we met at the hotels demonstrated wonderful hospitality. The visits in Leh and to Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake were fantastic. The guide and driver were professional and the guide had good knowledge. I was very disappointed in two things, one the Ladakh Imperial hotel, rooms were good but the service was poor. The second thing was having to cross Changla Pass twice, the road is very very poor and it would have been possible to travel to Pandong from the Nubra valley on good roads, crossing the Changla pass only once.

One of the major attractions of this trek is the Hall of Fame. It was made by the Indian Army in memory of brave soldiers who were martyred to save us during the Indo-Pak wars. The Hall of Fame Museum is located on Leh- Kargil Road, about 4km from the city of Leh. If you want to learn about the Kargil War, arms, and ammunitions captured during the war this is the place for you.

Kali Mata Mandir & Spituk Monastery

An 11th-century monastery, Spituk Gompa lies on the western end of Leh. The monastery comes under the Tsongkhapa order (Yellow Hat sect) of Tibetan Buddhism but it was originally founded by Karma-pa (RedHead Sect). The Spituk Gompa features a giant Kali statue that they only bring out during festivals. Above the monastery, on a hilltop, the Kali Mata Temple is located where Goddess Kali is enshrined.

Indus & Zanskar River Confluence

The thing that makes this place interesting is the colors of the rivers. Zanskar River is fluorescent blue and Indus looks a little green. They both meet in Nimmu Valley. You have to be there to appreciate its beauty.

It is a former royal palace that was abandoned in the mid-19th century and overlooks the city of Leh. Dogra invasion forced the royal family to move to Stok Palace. It has a rich collection of Jewellery, Ornaments, and Ceremonial Crowns.

Tse-mo-Gompa

Situated behind the Palace of Leh, this is a monastery that gives an awesome view of the complete place and surroundings.

Shanti Stupa

It was constructed to promote peace and harmony as well as to commemorate Buddhist culture. Not only does it have religious significance but it also offers a breathtaking view of the city.

Sindhu Ghat

The literal meaning of ghat is a broad flight of steps leading down to a river. Sindhu Ghat is a riverbank near Shey village in Leh. It is renowned for its unique and scenic landscape, which has barren mountains, rocky terrains, sparse greenery, and the Sindhu River crossing the region.

Shey Palace

It is located 15 km to the south of Leh on the Leh- Manali road. Shey used to be the summer capital of Ladakh in the past. It has a giant Shakyamuni Buddha statue which is the second-largest Buddha statue in Jammu and Kashmir.

Arrival in Leh | Welcome To The Charming Land Of Ladakh

Upon arrival in Leh, you will be welcomed by the breathtaking view of the mountains surrounding the airport. The altitude of Leh is 3,500m/ 11,500ft above sea level, so it is essential to take it easy on the first day to acclimatize to the altitude. A pick-up service will be provided from the airport to your hotel, which is included in the cost of your itinerary. It is recommended that you carry a copy of your ID proof and two photographs with you. For foreigners, a copy of your passport and visa is necessary.

Only postpaid networks are available in Leh, so make sure that you have a plan that works in the area. ATMs are available, so you don't need to worry about carrying a lot of cash. There are several shops in Leh where you can buy souvenirs or anything else you might need during your stay.

Cycling Tour Around Monasteries | Enjoy The Serenity

On the fourth day of your trip, you will have the opportunity to explore the local villages and monasteries through a cycling tour. The tour covers a distance of about 30 km, allowing you to experience the serenity of the region as you cycle through the beautiful landscapes. If you are not keen on cycling, an SUV will be available for you to travel in. The cycling tour includes visits to some popular attractions, including the Sindhu Ghat, which is the location for the annual festival in the region.

Your next stop on the cycling tour is the Shey Palace, built in 1655 on the instructions of Deldan Namgyal. The palace is a must-visit for history buffs and those interested in Tibetan culture. You will have the opportunity to explore the palace and learn more about the region's history and culture.

After exploring the Shey Palace, the cycling tour takes you to the 3 Idiots Rancho School. The school gained popularity after the Bollywood movie 3 idiots was shot there. You will have the opportunity to explore the school and take pictures of the movie's iconic locations.

Post-lunch, you will ride to the Bhumi Resort, where you will spend the night. As per the rules of the Pay Commission, Special Casual Leave can be availed for up to 30 days in a calendar year for trekking/mountaineering expeditions through a registered organization. Trek The Himalayas is a registered adventure tour operator by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) and the Ministry Of Tourism (MOT).

It is essential for everyone to arrive at Leh (01:00 am)

 Upon booking the trek, your trek coordinator will furnish you with the hotel details.

Choose any option to reach Leh

The easiest and best way to travel is to fly to Kushok Bakula Rimpochi Airport located in Leh. It is just 4 km away from the main city. The airport is well connected to Delhi and also receives flights from Mumbai, Srinagar, Jammu, Chandigarh, and other general destinations in India. Even international travelers can fly directly from major cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi. You can find taxis outside the airport or book a cab to reach the required destination.

There are two road routes to Leh

Manali (Himachal Pradesh ) to Leh via Baralacha La, Lachulung La and Tanglang La and It covers a distance of 500 km.

Srinagar to Leh via Zoji La, Lamayuru Lunar Landscape and Kargil and It covers a distance of 450 km.

You cannot reach Leh directly by train as there is no train station in Ladakh. The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi (700 km from Ladakh) which is well connected with Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

For your return journey from Leh, you have the flexibility to choose between road or air transport options. Please note that our services extend only to the hotel, and the standard hotel check-out time is 11:00 am, if you opt for an air transport then please ensure an early check-out in the morning, as all flights operate during the morning hours

In the unlikely event that TTH cancels a trek prior to the scheduled departure date:

While it is extremely rare for TTH to cancel a trek, we understand that unforeseen circumstances or natural disasters may occasionally require us to do so before the scheduled departure. These circumstances could include continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity that poses a risk to the safety of our trekkers. Additionally, unforeseeable events such as local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any similar situations that compromise the safety of the trekking experience may also necessitate a cancellation.

In the event of such a cancellation, TTH will provide you with a voucher equivalent to the amount you paid for the trek. This voucher can be redeemed for any of our treks within the next year, allowing you to still enjoy an adventure with us at a later date.

The issuance of a voucher is not applicable in situations where you are required to descend from the trek for any reason. The trek leader may make the decision to send you down from the trek due to factors such as insufficient fitness level, symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), high blood pressure, exceeding the designated turn-around-time, health concerns, or if you are found smoking, drinking, or violating the rules set for the trek. In such cases, the provision of a voucher does not apply.

In the rare event that TTH shifts a trek:

We would like to emphasize that weather conditions in high-altitude areas are highly unpredictable and can undergo sudden changes at any time, irrespective of the day. Additionally, circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters, political unrest, pandemics, and lockdowns, may impact the feasibility of conducting a trek. In cases where we are unable to proceed with an event due to such circumstances that are beyond our direct control, we will make every effort to provide you with an alternative trek that is safer and more suitable.

In such situations, we will issue a voucher to offset the cost difference between the originally scheduled trek and the alternative trek. This voucher can be redeemed at any time within one year from the date of issue. Please note that a refund fee or reimbursement of the cost difference is not applicable in these cases.

How does my family get updated about my Trek?

Before you start the trek, it is recommended that you make all the necessary phone calls as during the trek you may or may not receive network coverage, once you come back to the Base Camp, you can reconnect with your family via phone once again. You can share your trek coordinator contact detail with your family members to get the latest updates about your trek batch.

What food can I expect?

At TTH, we provide wholesome and nutritious meals during the trek. The food is vegetarian and includes a variety of dishes such as rice, dal, vegetables, chapati, paratha, pasta, noodles, and soup. We also offer snacks such as biscuits, and salty, and dry fruits during the trek. Special dietary requirements such as vegan, gluten-free, or Jain food can also be arranged if informed in advance.

I am allergic to some foods.

How safe is trekking with TTH?

How TTH will manage if I am the only woman in the group?

How can I know that other women are in the batch?

You can reach out to the trek coordinator to inquire about the number of female trekkers and their respective states who have booked the trek. Please note that the trek coordinator cannot disclose personal details of any trekker. Once you've confirmed your booking, a WhatsApp Group will be created for all the trekkers in your batch. This allows you to connect with fellow trekkers before the trek begins.

Can I know in advance, which trek is led by a women Trek Leader?

While many of our treks are led by female trek leaders, however, it is not possible to know which trek leader is assigned to which group. But nonetheless, whether the trek leader is male or female you can be completely assured of your safety and security with us.

Can I trek with periods? If yes, then where can I dispose of the sanitary pad?

Yes, it is possible to trek with periods. However, it is important to take some extra precautions and preparations to ensure a comfortable and safe trekking experience.

Here are some tips that can help you trek during your period:

1. Use menstrual hygiene products that you are comfortable with, such as tampons, pads, or menstrual cups. It is recommended to carry enough supplies for the entire duration of the trek.

2. Pack wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and plastic bags to dispose of used hygiene products.

How will the accommodation be during the trek?

We offer three person tents with twin-sharing for optimum comfort. A woman trekker will share a tent with another woman trekker and if you are the only woman in the group, you will be given a single accommodation for your comfort and privacy.

Are trek poles, Jackets and other equipment available for rent from Trek The Himalayas?

Yes, we do provide gears on rent. You can book it using you TTH account directly.

Who will be with us on the trek from Trek The Himalayas?

Mountaineering qualified Experienced and first aid certified Trek Leader, First Aid Certify local guide, Cook, helpers and supporting staff.

Who can not join the trek?

People suffering from Bronchitis, Asthma, High blood pressure, Epilepsy (got faints), TB , Heart problem or on higher BMI side are strictly not allowed to go on any Himalayan trek. Apart from this if you had any medical history, please let us know.

When it gets really cold can I consume alcohol?

No. Alcohol and smocking isn’t allowed while on trek. It is totally misconception that it will keep you warm. Your body need to acclimatize properly and for that eat properly and drink enough water; these things will keep you warm.

What type of toilet facility is TTH providing at the trek?

Toilet tents provide a convenient solution for answering nature's call in the great outdoors. Dry toilets, in particular, offer a highly sanitary approach. By digging a pit and utilizing mud and a shovel, you can easily cover up your waste. This method ensures cleanliness and hygiene while camping or exploring in the forest. 

Remember to pack essential toiletries to complete your outdoor bathroom kit and maintain proper personal hygiene during your adventures. With these practices in place, you can enjoy nature while also respecting it.

How do I manage the negative temperatures on the trek at higher camps? Do I need special jackets?

Layer Up From Head To Toe Eat Full Meals, never sleep empty stomach You can keep warmee (if you’re more susceptible to cold). Use sleeping bag in right way and don’t leave free space in sleeping bag.

For upper body – Thermal layer – T-shirt (full-sleeves) – Fleece T-shirt (for extreme colds) – Fleece layer – Thick Jacket/Down Jacket – Waterproof or Windproof layer (outermost layer, when it is snowing or raining) - For Lower Body – Thermal layer – Hiking pants (normal) or Winter hiking pants

Based on how warm you feel you can skip any of the above layers. Your outer later should be windproof since it is windy at high altitude. The idea behind layering is that the more insulation you have the less cold you feel, and instead of wearing a very thick jacket if you wear multiple layers, your body will be better insulated against the cold.

Do you provide crampon/micro spikes and gaiters?

What documents need to carry on trek?

If we come prior the trek date, Do you provide accommodation?

Do we get enough water for drinking?

Yes, trekker must carry 2 water bottles 1 litre each so they can refill it at campsite for drinking and keep themselves hydrate.

What kind of shoes we should buy for the trek?

You should buy shoes which has these three features –Good grip, Ankle Support and additional water resistant layers. Generally, we advise Quechua Trek 100, MH 500 and MH 100.

What happens if some members of the team need to turn back before the summit?

No one is forced to go on. There is always enough staff to split the party according to need and regroup later at the camp. Most people have no trouble reaching the highest campsite. If some members decide not to climb the final distance they can wait for the climbers to come back down the same way or take a lateral path to the descent route.

Day 1: Arrival in Leh | Welcome to the Top of the World

After arrival, reach the designated hotel in Leh. After the Check-in formalities, proceed to enjoy the scenic views from the Top of the World. Hotel representative will brief you about the surrounding attractions and places to visit for you to enjoy. 

Gradually get acclimatized to the Leh Ladakh weather as most people aren’t accustomed to it due to the high altitude of the destination that causes a drop in the air pressure.  

Later in the evening, visit the Leh Market, Leh Palace, and Shanti Stupa at your convenience and immerse yourself in the local culture and traditions through browsing the handicrafts present in the local market and discovering the rich heritage of Shanti Stupa which is magnificent white-domed Buddhist monument situated at a dizzying altitude of 11,841 feet. It is highly recommended to visit the Stupa during a full moon night as the monument looks extraordinary illuminating under the moonlight.

Day 2: Leh to Sham Valley | Exploring Borders of Leh

Begin your day early with a delicious breakfast and officially commence your Leh Ladakh trip with an adventurous drive to the legendary 'Sham Valley'. It is perhaps the most visited destination according to Ladakh Tourism as most of the attractions require around 165kms of drive which can be covered within a day. 

Visit the confluence of the Zanskar- Indus Rivers, which is also the world highest river rafting point nested at an altitude of 13,154 feet surrounded by gorgeous snow-capped mountains. 

Experience the world-famous Hall of fame and learn more about the Indo-Pak wars and pay respects to the martyrs for their great sacrifices defeating this country’s borders. 

Visit the Magnetic Hill, where you can witness the unusual phenomenon of vehicles sliding uphill on neutral gear. Experience ‘The Phenomenon That Defies Gravity’ by parking your vehicle inside the box marked and witness the vehicle moving forward at a speed of almost 20km/h.   

While returning to Leh, enjoy delicious langar at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and later, enjoy dinner after you have experienced a day filled with thrilling activities and adventures.

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung-La Pass | A Drive to the World’s Highest Motorable Road (18000 ft.)

After breakfast in the hotel, prepare yourself for the journey from Leh to Nubra falls on a very scenic route. Nubra valley is often referred as the Orchard of Ladakh and is known for its scenic vistas, monasteries and the famous Bactrian camels. 

Known as the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys, the Khardung-La pass is the world's highest all-season motorable road, perfect for Ladakh SUV trip. As you descend from Khardung-la, experience the white sand dunes in Nubra and enjoy a ride of the double-humped camel, exclusively found in Ladakh. Day 4 : Nubra Valley to Turtuk Village | Last Village of India

• Inner Line Permits are no longer required to travel the inner line areas of Ladakh from August 2021 for Indian Nationals.
• Those visiting Ladakh will still have to pay a green fee or environment fee of INR 300 and a Red Cross Fund fee of INR 100 will still have to be paid. This fee can be paid online or through your hotel or travel agent.
• It is advised to spend two days at the initial altitude of 3,500 meters upon reaching Leh by flight before ascending to higher altitudes.
• Travellers from countries other than India will still need to obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP)
• Government authorities launched a web portal http://lahdclehpermit.in/ on June 1, 2017, making it easier for travellers to obtain a permit.
• The scrapping of ILP doesn't allow the movement to certain villages including the 'zero-km' villages near the border that still remains accessible for the travellers. Indian travellers will be required to carry a valid ID proof while travelling to Ladakh

The main highlight of Thiksey is the Maitreya Temple which houses a 15-metre high Maitreya Buddha statue. It covers two-stories of the building and is the largest such statue in Ladakh. It resembles the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Shey Monastery & Palace: Shey Monastery or the Shey Palace is an ancient monastery located 15km from Leh. It once served as the summer capital of Ladakh but is mostly in ruins now. Located on top of a hillock, it offers stunning panoramic views. 3 Idiot School

This school is also known as "The Druk White Lotus School" and is located in Shey, Ladakh, in northern India. It is also known as "Druk Padma Karpo School" locally. In the indigenous language of Bodhi, Karpo means white and Padma means lotus. After the famous Indian actor Mr. Amir Khan filmed his iconic film 3 idiots here, the school was given the name 3 idiot school.

Leh Palace is a former royal palace in Ladakh, India, that overlooks the town of Leh. Sengge Namgyal built this palace in the year 1600. When Dogra forces acquired control of Ladakh in the mid-nineteenth century, the royal family was compelled to relocate to Stok Palace. It stands nine stories tall, with the upper floors housing the royal family and the lowest floors housing stables and storage facilities. Much of the palace has decayed, and only a few of the interior decorations have survived.

Alchi Monastery or Alchi Gompa is a Buddhist monastery in Alchi village, Leh District, under the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council of the Ladakh Union Territory. It is most commonly known as a monastic complex (chos-'khor) of temples. The complex is made up of four independent towns in the lower Ladakh village of Alchi, each with monuments dating from different times. Alchi monastery is regarded to be the oldest and most famous of these four hamlets.

Hemis Monastery

Hemis Monastery is a Drukpa Lineage Himalayan Buddhist Monastery (Gompa) in Hemis, Ladakh, India. Sengge Namgyal, the Ladakhi king, re-established the monastery in 1672. Prior to the 11th century, Hemis Monastery existed. This monastery is associated with Naropa, a student of the yogi Tilopa and teacher of the translator Marpa. A. Grünwedel (Naro und Tilo: Festschrift Ernst Kuhn, München 1916) translated Naropa's biography, which was discovered in Hemis Monastery.

What are the things to keep in mind about the oxygen level there?

The oxygen level at the height of 3000 meters is lower than other low altitude regions. Therefore, it is very important to devote time to acclimatize to the altitude before starting to tour the region. Today we get up early in the morning and drive to the world-famous Pangong Tso Lake in changthang valley. We leave early in the morning from Nubra and have our breakfast. crossing over some of the most treacherous roads and mighty shyok river we must finally reach Pangong Tso- the place which just mesmerises you with its beauty. We visit the famous point where the famous Bollywood movie Three Idiots, shot a small sequence. Since it takes more than a day to behold the beauty of this place in one single evening, the night is spent on Pangong Lake doing star gazing and moon watch.

Today after breakfast we head back to Leh saying goodbye to this beautiful place of Pangong Tso. And explore changthnag valley.

We stop at multiple beautiful points on the way and share stories of changthang valley which has much more to explore than Pangong lake trust us its one of the most beautiful place in the world and have a life changing experience. For lunch, we take a halt at Karu and after lunch, we visit the sand dunes on our way back. Interested people can do ATV rides here.

• Start the day early with a glorious sunrise and a delicious breakfast. We have an exciting day ahead, starting with the drive to Nubra along the Khardung La Pass which boasts of being the world’s highest motorable road!
• During the drive through Khardung La Top, you will come across some of the most beautiful sights that the Earth has to offer, with the dazzling Nubra Valley and the snow-capped mountains framing it!
• Upon reaching, have the unique experience of riding atop the exotic Bactrian Camel or the double-humped camel, found in the cold desert!  
• We will be staying at Nubra for the night!

Day 4 - Drive from Nubra to Pangong

The Magnificent Chang La Pass

• Wake up at the campsite to an enchanting Himalayan sunrise and a refreshing breakfast. Enjoy the views of Nubra Valley and its surroundings.
• After this, we start on the route to the Pangong Tso, which takes you through the quaint villages Thiksey and Shey, via the Chemrey and Shakti Valleys. Revel in the peace and serenity permeating the air around the lake and explore the areas around it! 
• After a while, we start on the ride through to the magnificent Chang La Pass, located at the height of 17,586 ft! The Pass is known to be relatively simple to navigate despite its high altitude.
• Pangong Tso lake is a 134 km long lake which has the extension from India to China. The specialty of this lake is it changes the color according to the level of daylight; however, this is not a miracle. It is just due to reflection, which will leave you in awe. 
• Afterward, we will make our way to the lakeside campsite, where we will be staying for the night. Spending a night at the campground will be one of the lifetime memorable experiences. Stargazing at the campsite with child winds will be another kind of experience.

Day 5 - Drive from Pangong to Leh

• This morning, we started the picturesque drive back to Leh after a delicious, hot breakfast at the campsite.
• We will follow the same route as before and negotiate the Chang La Pass. This is considered the third highest motorable road in the world. During the course, you will access this pass via Kharu and Sakti village.

Tourists across the world pay a visit to this place for bird watching as it has 34 avifauna species. Tso Kar- Tso Kar, also known as Tsho Kar’s western part is a salty lake, and the eastern part contains freshwater. It is placed in the southern Ladakh. Miral Tso- Mirpal Tso lake is located close to Chul. This lake contains freshwater and is a beautiful place to visit.  Chagar Tso- Chagar Tso is one of the most beautiful lakes in Ladakh. • Twin rooms (two separate beds in a room) are not readily available hence we will provide a double bed for two persons with two separate bedding (blankets/linen).
• Most of the hotels/camps are of standard category and the buffet meals are pretty basic having limited menu. However, hotels/camps do prefer to know your requirement a day prior and will be happy to serve you.
