‘Worst concert experience ever.’ Garth Brooks shows in Missouri labeled a ‘nightmare’

Garth Brooks’ sold-out shows near Branson, Missouri, provided unforgettable nights for thousands of fans — but many for all the wrong reasons.

From traffic woes, parking issues, miles-long walks and troubles for those with disabilities, the three-night opening of the Thunder Ridge Nature Arena did not go as planned as it ushered in one of the most well-known musicians on the planet.

Many fans only caught a few songs. Others were less lucky, as they either missed out entirely or gave up when seeing the lines mounting ahead of them.

“Either get there at NOON (7 p.m. show), rent a helicopter or don’t go! We did NOT see Garth,” Facebook user Whitney Wilson said . “Very poor event and parking management. The venue is getting raked for this. Garth deserves better!”

Jessica Schultz considered it the “ worst concert experience ever .” She arrived at the site for parking at 5:15 p.m., but left at 8 p.m. with more than 500 people ahead of her, she said in a Facebook post.

Teresa Huddleston Scroggins also suggested to not attend the final two shows after she went on the first night. She estimated that thousands of people never made it to the venue , due to standstill traffic on the two-lane road that led to the arena.

She considered herself one of the lucky ones since she caught one of the few shuttles.

“Garth was great, Trisha (Yearwood) was incredible but nothing is worth the hassle and as I said we were one of the lucky ones that actually made it inside without walking 10 miles to do so,” Scroggins said. “Thunder Ridge Nature Arena is a massive fail of epic proportions!”

Tickets for the Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 shows were capped at 25,000 people each . But that, many said, was far too many for the venue to hold.

There was an “ overwhelming turnout ” during the ticket-buying process, and all three shows quickly sold out.

After the woes on the first night, the arena encouraged people to leave for the venue early because “the 2-lane highway will get backed up and some parking lots require shuttles to and from the venue.”

Janet Babb Scott was among those who encountered issues when arriving at the Ridgedale arena. She said she waited in line for three hours, only saw 30 minutes of the concert, then sat in three more hours of traffic as she exited.

“People were furious to say the least,” she added in her Facebook post.

And despite concertgoers having to pay for a parking pass — $65 according to Ali O’Malley — no one was checking those tickets at entry, she said. It took O’Malley two hours to leave the arena, but she said she knew of others who waited for six hours.

“This is the most poorly thought out venue I have ever tried to enter,” James Herring said in a post . “Limited parking at the arena so they have offsite parking that you can’t get into then wait in line for a shuttle that can’t run (because of) the traffic jam.”

Others commented on the venue’s accommodations for those with disabilities.

Teresa Merau said on Facebook she encountered “excruciating, inhumane conditions” at the arena, beginning with a trek up a hill.

“You’d better be young, in top physical condition and no disabilities to attend there. The hill to get down to it is very steep, so you must be sure-footed,” she said. “What goes down must come up, so you need to have the physical ability to do some hefty climbing.”

Joe Folsom told KY3 that people who were handicapped “ would not have been able to make it ” to the site.

“The worse part was when you got into the gate. It was gravel, like walking on sand,” he said. “We saw people with walkers and motorized scooters. You almost got stuck in it because we were not able to navigate it at all.”

The venue has not commented on social media since the first night of the concert series. Its Google rating has plummeted since the weekend’s shows as many people vented about their frustrations.

There are no upcoming events at the venue after its first, referred to as many as a “logistical nightmare.”

Pro rodeo and Garth Brooks to reopen Thunder Ridge

  • by Jason Wert
  • Aug 19, 2022

Bass Pro Shops announced the reopening of Thunder Ridge at the end of September with a rodeo event and a country music legend.

Thunder Days will take place from Sept. 23 to 25, featuring a Professional Bull Rider team series event, followed by a concert by Garth Brooks on Oct. 1.

“We are so excited for Thunder Ridge to help showcase the true beauty of the Ozarks to our guests,” Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris said in a statement. “This will be a place for visitors of all ages to come and experience some of the best events and biggest names in entertainment, in a truly awe-inspiring environment, surrounded by nature.”

The outdoor venue is located near Ridgedale and is about 1,200 acres in size. The venue is located next to the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Academy. The venue has previously hosted major concerts like Dierks Bentley, Tracy Lawrence, and Hank Williams, Jr. and events like hot air balloon shows, National 4-H Youth Council gatherings, rodeos, and weddings.

The expansion of the venue increases capacity from 10,000 to approximately 50,000, with double the previous seating capacity. The land was part of the not-for-profit Johnny Morris Conservation Foundation, and all proceeds from the events at Thunder Ridge will be donated to enhance the venue and support conservation efforts.

Future plans include the development of a new campground on the property with additional outdoor activities for guests.

The pro bull riding event is hosted by the Missouri Thunder, the team started by Morris and coached by Hall-of-Famers Ross Coleman and Luke Snyder. The Thunder are currently number one in the PBR Team Series standings.

“Thunder Ridge is one of the most unique and beautiful venues that I have ever seen. It is truly breathtaking,” Colten Fritzlan, one of the PBR Team Series’ top individual riders said in a statement. “We can’t wait for Thunder Days to be able to put on a show for our fans, and for bull-riding fans everywhere.”

The Saturday following the rodeo, country music legend Garth Brooks will be the first music performer to headline a show in the new venue. The show will begin at 7 p.m. with tickets starting at just under $100 each.

Tickets for Thunder Days and the Garth Brooks concert are now available at ticketmaster.com .

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace

Garth Brooks elevated country music to a level of chart-topping dominance in the 1990s that eclipsed Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and The Beatles. During his unstoppable run in the decade, Brooks introduced arena-rock bravado to country music, and in the process modernized the genre with country-pop classics like the 18-times platinum No Fences (1990). His chart-topping albums have made Brooks the bestselling solo artist in U.S. history (selling over 170 million albums worldwide), and his record-breaking concert tours have cemented him as a touring juggernaut and one of the greatest live entertainers in the U.S. In 2009, Brooks began his five-year Garth at Wynn residency in Las Vegas, which set the stage for the epic career showcase that is Garth Brooks/Plus ONE, his current residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Amazingg!!!!! 👏👏👏👏

Garth Brooks put on an unforgettable show that left us speechless! 🤩 From the moment he stepped on stage, he had the audience in the palm of his hand, commanding attention with every note. 🎤 His powerful vocals and genuine charisma created an electric atmosphere that had everyone singing along and dancing in their seats. 💃🕺 With a setlist packed full of classics and new hits, there was never a dull moment. 🎶 It's no wonder he's a country music icon – Garth Brooks knows how to deliver a performance that touches the heart and soul of every fan. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The best performer ever! Garth and Ms Yearwood never disappoint.

This concert was great!! Garth sings to his audience with so much passion. I love the way he can read what the audience wants and has everyone on their feet moving and singing with the music. What a fantastic band! Everything about the concert was awesome!

GARTH!!!!!!!

The show was fantastic!! Garth was a little looser than his stadium shows, telling stories and such. Loved all the music he played....(how could you not???) The only down side, and this is in no way, shape or form related to the music played, but we had a drunk man fall on us about 2/3 of the way through the concert. Hurt my shoulder and kinda put a damper on the evening for us. But Caesar's personnel were spot on taking care of us. I just wish they could have caught up with him before he got out of the venue. We were relocated to the main floor for the remainder of the concert, which was really cool, but just wish that never would have happened. Garth Brooks sounds just like he did 10 years ago, voice and musically. Trisha joined him on stage and they were awesome. We didn't want to see the evening end!!!

Amazing 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

What an amazing performance !! I came from Toronto Canada to watch and it was so worth it. Love his energy on stage. Made his performance feel like he is just so grateful for his audience

Garth and Trisha were amazing, as always. Tickets were expensive, but worth it, along with the trip across the country! Even if you don't like country music, go see Garth. His personality, humble attitude and energy on stage are unmatched by any other artist. This is a much more intimate setting than his stadium or arena shows. It almost feels like you are at a friend's place and they are playing music they love.

The Rolling Stones are coming to the Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, Mo.

RIDGEDALE, Mo. (AP/KY3) - The Rolling Stones and the Ozarks don’t seem like the most natural pairing. But nature itself, and of all things fishing, have brought them together.

Tickets for the concert will go on sale Friday, May 31 at 10 a.m. For ticketing information, visit www.rollingstones.com .

The Stones announced Thursday that they will end their summer Hackney Diamonds Tour on July 21 at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena, a brand new monument to mountain beauty in Missouri built by Bass Pro Shops founder and CEO Johnny Morris.

The Missouri native hopes that Thunder Ridge, which opens with a Morgan Wallen concert Saturday — will be a name heard alongside Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre in Colorado and The Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington state when people talk about the nation’s most beautiful music venues.

“I just I really love my home here in the Ozarks,” Morris told The Associated Press in an interview. “I’m happy to share it with the world.”

For him, the site is as personal as it is pristine. Since he was a boy, with his father and grandfather, he fished the White River and Table Rock Reservoir — both visible from the venue’s seats — in the deep-green Boston Mountains section of the Ozarks that surrounds it.

Morris entered the first national bass-fishing tournament — full of future fishing legends — on the reservoir in 1970, and the competitors’ hard-to-get lures convinced him to start selling tackle to fishermen on the way there out of his father’s liquor store in the early years of what would become Bass Pro Shops.

The 20,000-capacity arena in Ridgedale, about 10 miles from Branson, is downright tiny compared to the 80,000-plus-seat MetLife Stadium, where the Stones will play Thursday night.

Mick, Keith and their crew coming to these mountains also had its origins in fishing. About a decade ago, Morris took his friend Chuck Leavell, a former member of the Allman Brothers Band who has been the Rolling Stones’ primary touring keyboardist and musical director since the early 1980s, on a fishing trip to Canada.

“We were on this pristine little stream, he hooks on this big fish, he said, ‘John this is like the happiest day of my life. If you ever need a favor, you let me know,” Morris remembered with a laugh. “A couple years ago, we were working on this, and I said, ‘Chuck, remember that day you asked if there was anything you could do for me? How about you get the Rolling Stones to Ridgedale, Missouri?”

Morris has for years dreamed of putting a venue on the site. Many musical acts have played in more makeshift set-ups for summer camps and fishing tournaments. Garth Brooks played to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Morris’ stores.

“It just inspired me to see if we could expand this facility,” he said, “just to share the beauty of the Ozarks.

The site won’t necessarily require roughing it. Its 12-story “Nature Tower” — designed to look like the old fire-watching towers in national parks — rises over the back of the venue. The amenities in the VIP suites inside it include bedrooms. Morris later plans to have it re-dubbed the “Veterans Tower” to honor, among others, his father, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

He takes the “Nature” part of the name seriously. Morris and those promoting the site say its structures were designed to blend and peacefully coexist with their environment. Along with 1,200 acres of surrounding land, they have been permanently set aside as part of a not-for-profit foundation committed to the cause of conservation, to which all the proceeds will also go.

“Hopefully, it’ll be undisturbed,” Morris said. “You won’t come there in the future and see condos or nothin’. Only beautiful nature.”

The Thunder Ridge venue has seen considerable change since a concert by Garth Brooks in late 2022 which came under criticism from fans who complained about long traffic lines , parking issues, no way for those with disabilities to get around and miles-long walks that caused a number of fans to miss the concert.

“The experience getting from the parking lot down to your seating area has been improved,” said Kate Girotti, the Vice-President of Marketing for ASM Global, a venue management and services company. “We have built entirely new roads to get people into expanded parking lots that have gone from 3,000 to 6,000 spots. We’ve added new turn lanes to Highway 65 and two additional lanes and roundabouts on Highway 86 to help people get in-and-out quickly. But as with any major event, anytime 20,000 are trying to get somewhere at the same time, there’s going to be some traffic. We will have open-air trams that are available for guests and we’ve actually paved paths throughout the venue so anyone who has a wheelchair or other problems walking through grass or wood chips should have a more seamless experience now because we want to make sure everybody has an enjoyable experience.”

Girotti also pointed out that feedback from concert goers is appreciated.

“We can’t get any better as an organization if we don’t hear from our guests,” she said. “So we will definitely send out a post-event survey to guests that should be in their inbox within 24-48 hours. It will go to the e-mail address of the person who purchased the tickets but people can also contact us on social media as well.”

“Read more at: https://www.kansascity.com/news/state/missouri/article266801696.html#storylink=cpy With concerts at Thunder Ridge starting this weekend, fans are anxious to see if the parking nightmares, long walks and lack of wheelchair acessibility from the Garth Brooks concert have been addressed..The staff says it has..

BRANSON, Mo.- Night one of the Garth Brooks concerts brought a headache for many fans, as they waited hours in traffic.

Fans say they were at a stand-still from Ridgedale, all the way to Hollister on Highway 86. Headlights shine on Highway 86 as state troopers direct traffic.

Getting out to the arena most had to sit in traffic for almost an hour and a half, even longer. After speaking with some of the concert goer’s some say they were very frustrated with the traffic getting to tonight’s concert.

Here’s a look at fans slowly driving into parking lots while others wait for a shuttle. now the concert is underway.

SGT. Clint Mason says he has worked events but hasn’t seen anything this big before.

“There’s just not too many ways into the venue. So, when you have a big artist like Garth Brooks and it draws a lot of people. I’ve been on it for about 25 years. I’ve done some events like this one, but nothing to this scale. This is a lot of people trying to put in.” said Mason.

For some, the drive for night two of the Garth Brooks concert was a breeze.

“We’re from Kansas City, Missouri, and the drive was pretty pleasant. We took it was 7 to 13 south most of the way, and the traffic was a little dense, but we never had to stop really.” said a concertgoer.

But for others, it was a nightmare.

“It said 12 minutes delay and it’s been 2 hours. And so, we were sitting there, and people were trying to cut in and a lot of people were getting upset about it” said another concertgoer.

Fans who took Highway 65 say they sat and waited for more than two hours on the road. After getting off the highway, many people had to walk to get to the arena. Others were able to ride shuttle buses from the offsite parking.

“It’s so slow getting in that we are trying to shut down the highway at times just to get the shuttle busses through or emergency vehicles. We’ve had to do it for an ambulance” said Mason.

Even with all the traffic and backup, everyone is still excited about the show. But some say they may leave early to beat the traffic later tonight.

“We’re super excited. My dad was a big Garth Brooks fan, and he died when I was a kid. So when I heard he was coming to town, I was like, Oh, man, I have to go see Garth,” said a concertgoer.

The concert started on Saturday night around 7:00 pm. Garth Brooks’s last concert at the Thunder Ridge Arena will be Sunday, October 2nd.
