Covid-19 safety measures

We here at Irish Tour Tickets would like to thank all our customers for their patience and cooperation during this difficult time. It is a difficult time for the tourism industry as COVID 19 has impacted the world in ways none could have thought. Taking the smallest things for granted is something that will not be done when this pandemic passes us. That is why Irish Tour Tickets has been busy at work to make sure that when you want to enjoy the small and big things, we will be there to help you!

What have we done since lockdown?

During our time in ‘lockdown’ we have taken the time to complete an impeccable clean of our vehicles. We sterilised every seat, floor, and railing that our passengers could encounter. This is being done daily. Risk assessments have been carried out and updated regularly, so we are in line with local regulations.

Our shop where you will come to visit or check in is also receiving regular deep cleans so when it is time, our colleagues can come into help with your inquiries in a safe, sterile environment.

We have been keeping up to date with all recent advice and changes to help stop the spread of COVID 19. Therefore, we will be implementing changes for when we are ready to show you Belfast once more.

To combat the spread of COVID 19, we will be implementing the following:

There will be a limit on how many passengers will be seated on our vehicles for our day tours. We have a range of coaches that go from 16 right up to 50 seats. Social distancing measures will be implemented to ensure that our passengers are safe whilst visiting Northern Ireland. Seats will be blocked that are too close to other passengers or our colleagues. Face to face seats will be blocked.

We will be providing liquid hand sanitizer for passengers getting on and off the coach as each stop of the tour. Our buses are being cleaned daily to help stop the spread. Our colleagues are to wash their hands every time before they board a vehicle. Masks will be providing when joining our tour.

Vouchers will be shown on technological devices so there is no cross contamination. We will have posters on vehicles to remind our customers of the social distancing regulations. We will direct you to where your coach will be waiting, and no bottles of water will be given.

As an extra procedure, Irish Tour Tickets will now be carrying out temperature checks on all passengers boarding our coaches/buses. This is to ensure the spread of COVID 19 is lessened when taking our tour. Please be ready for your temperature to be taken.

If your temperature is above NHS guidelines, you will be denied entry onto the coach/bus and advised to go home and self-isolate.

If this was to happen to you, your booking will be cancelled and refunded within company guidelines.

We hope that this information puts your mind at ease, and we hope to see you soon! We will all come out stronger after this and will enjoy life to its fullest! We thank our customers for their support and understanding during this uncertain time. A last thank you to our staff who are working so hard to make sure that we are ready to go once this is all over.

We look forward to seeing you all soon! IRISH TOUR TICKETS TEAM.

2. Carrickfergus Castle

Carrickfergus Castle

Carrickfergus Castle, located in the town of Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland, is a magnificent medieval fortress with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. This iconic castle has also played a role in the popular television series Game of Thrones , further adding to its allure.

In Game of Thrones, Carrickfergus Castle served as the backdrop for the Castle Black , the stronghold of the Night’s Watch . The castle’s formidable stone walls and imposing architecture perfectly captured the essence of Castle Black, bringing the world of Westeros to life.

Visitors to Carrickfergus Castle can explore its impressive towers, gatehouses, and battlements, which offer panoramic views of the surrounding town and coastline. Inside, the castle houses a museum that showcases its intriguing history, including its role in various conflicts and sieges over the centuries.

Stepping through the castle’s massive gate, visitors can immerse themselves in the medieval ambiance and envision the lives of knights, soldiers, and nobility that once occupied these historic walls. The castle’s strategic location on the shores of Belfast Lough adds to its allure, providing a picturesque backdrop for photographs and a sense of awe-inspiring beauty.

Whether you’re a Game of Thrones fan or a history enthusiast, a visit to Carrickfergus Castle is a journey back in time. It offers a glimpse into Northern Ireland’s medieval past, while also serving as a testament to its enduring cultural significance.

3. Carnlough / Braavos

Carnlough Harbour

Carnlough, a picturesque coastal village nestled along the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland, served as the stunning backdrop for the city of Braavos in Game of Thrones. Its idyllic charm and unique features made Carnlough the perfect choice to bring the mystical city to life.

Braavos, one of the significant locations in the Game of Thrones universe, is a city known for its vibrant culture, intricate canal system, and iconic landmarks. Carnlough effortlessly embodied these qualities, transforming into the enchanting city of Braavos with its own distinct character.

The village’s picturesque harbor, lined with colorful houses and small fishing boats, served as the central point of Braavos, creating a visual spectacle that captivated viewers. Its narrow streets and quaint buildings were adorned with intricate designs and architectural details, reminiscent of the rich tapestry of the Game of Thrones world.

Visitors to Carnlough can immerse themselves in the essence of Braavos by exploring the village’s charming streets and harbor. They can stroll along the water’s edge, imagining themselves as characters from the show, and take in the awe-inspiring coastal scenery that enchanted both viewers and filmmakers alike.

The transformation of Carnlough into Braavos highlights the incredible fusion of fantasy and reality that Game of Thrones achieved through its use of Northern Ireland’s diverse landscapes. Carnlough’s portrayal of Braavos will forever be etched in the hearts of fans, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a touch of magic from the world of Westeros.

4. Cushendun Caves / The Stormlands

Game of Thrones - Cushendun Caves ~ A Cove in the Stormlands (02)

The Cushendun Caves  helped to create some of the eerie settings near Storm’s End . These 400-million-year-old caves provided the perfect rocky, coastal landscape to represent the Baratheon  homeland.

In the GOT TV series , the Cushendun Caves feature in one of the show’s most famous and mystical scenes. Here, Melisandre gives birth to the Shadow Assassin , much to the amazement of Davos Seaworth . This smokey spectre travels through the air to find Renly Baratheon , killing him in his tent. For viewers, this was the first time they saw how powerful Melisandre could really be. It also showed how far Stannis Baratheon would truly go to sit on the Iron Throne .

But the Cushendun Caves are more than just the backdrop for Storm’s End. They are a thing of natural beauty and undeniable proof of the picturesque qualities of the Northern Irish coastline. When visiting the cave featured in the show, make sure to take the time to soak up the verdant green landscape, and breath in some fresh Irish Sea air.

5. Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (28098)

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, located along the stunning Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland, is a captivating attraction that draws visitors from all over the world. Suspended high above the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean, this iconic rope bridge offers a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

The bridge, which spans 20 meters and stands 30 meters above the rocky shoreline, was originally built by salmon fishermen over 350 years ago. It was used as a means to reach the Carrick-a-Rede Island, where fishermen would cast their nets for the abundant salmon population. Over time, it has transformed into a popular tourist destination, known for its breathtaking views and exhilarating crossing.

The surrounding area of the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge is equally enchanting. Nestled within the wild and untamed beauty of the Causeway Coast, the bridge is part of a larger nature reserve, rich in biodiversity and natural wonders. Visitors can explore the rugged cliffs, hike along picturesque trails, and spot seabirds nesting on the cliffsides.

Whether you’re a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or simply someone who appreciates natural beauty, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge offers an unforgettable experience. It’s a place where history, breathtaking views, and the thrill of crossing a swaying bridge come together to create an extraordinary adventure that will be etched in your memory forever.

6. The Dark Hedges / The Kingsroad

The Dark Hedges / The Kingsroad in Game of Thrones

The Dark Hedges  looked like a place straight out of a fantasy novel long before it became the backdrop of The Kingsroad in Game of Thrones . The interlocking canopy of trees covering the road naturally creates a sense of magic and mystery.

James Stuart originally planted the beech trees lining this road in 1755 . He wanted them to grow and line the entranceway to his home, Gracehill House .

According to local legend, a ghost named the Grey Lady haunts the Dark Hedges. Some say she is the spirit of James Stuart’s daughter , or possibly a housemaid who died mysteriously. Others speculate that the Grey Lady is a spirit from a nearby abandoned graveyard. People say that on Halloween night, her fellow graveyard residents join in on the haunting fun!

While James Stuart originally planted 150 trees, only around 90 are still standing. In 2016, Storm Gertrude fell two trees and damaged a third. The timber from these trees made 10 bespoke doors . Each one features a Game-of-Thrones-inspired design. You can find them throughout Northern Ireland .

7. Giant's Causeway

Giant's Causeway

The Giant’s Causeway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site , and one of Northern Ireland’s most popular historical landmarks. It draws in hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Situated on the County Antrim coast, Giant’s Causeway is the product of two natural forces coming together. It formed when molten lava cooled down as it met with the cold sea water, around 50 to 60 million years ago. The result was a sprawling bed of around 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, that covers just under 5km of coastline.

Some legends also talk about how Giant’s Causeway came to be. The most popular features the Irish mythical character Fionn mac Cumhaill , who was feuding with a Scottish giant,  Benandonner . Fionn built the causeway between the two islands so that they could fight it out.

However, when he saw how big Benandoner really was, he retreated back to his wife for help. She quickly wrapped Fionn in a blanket and laid him across her lap. When the Scottish giant arrived she told him that this was, in fact, the infant son of Fion mac Cumhaill. Seeing how big the toddler was, Benandonner figured that the father must be enormous. So, he ran away, destroying the causeway as he went.

8. Dunluce Castle / Pyke Castle of House Greyjoy

Dunluce Castle / House Greyjoy

Exterior shots of Dunluce Castle were used in Game of Thrones for Pyke Castle of House Greyjoy on Pyke Island . But that’s not the only exciting thing about this 16th-century structure. It has many other claims to fame and tales from within its walls.

Featuring on the HBO TV series wasn’t the first time that Dunluce Castle was shown to the world. In the early 70s, it also featured on the inner sleeve of the Led Zeppelin album Houses of the Holy . It was also the one-time home of the famous Scottish warrior chieftain  Sorely Boy MacDonnell . It was during Sorely’s reign that the Girona , a vessel from the Spanish Armada , was caught in a storm and wrecked on nearby rocks. The canons were taken from the ship and installed as the castle’s security system.

A local legend also claims that at one time, due to cliff beneath the castle eroding, the castle’s kitchen suddenly plummeted into the sea . The only member of staff left alive was the kitchen boy. He was sitting on a stool in the inside corner of the room when it fell.

7 Best Game of Thrones Tours in Europe (Updated)

Are you a fan of the famous TV series Game of Thrones, looking to visit some of the most spectacular GoT filming locations, but not sure where to start?

In this article, we are highlighting some of the best Game of Thrones tours in Iceland, Ireland, Croatia, Malta, and Spain .

Update: This post was originally published when Game of Thrones was extremely popular and there were lots of amazing GOT tours to choose from. At the moment of the last update, some of the best tours were still available, but quite a few tours at several locations have been discontinued. Nevertheless, we did our best to select the very best Game of Thrones tours that are available, with a short explanation of what you can expect. Take a look!

Selection of the best authentic Game of Thrones tours

TIP: Before we continue to the best Game of Thrones tours for each destination, I would like to quickly tell you why you should consider joining an organized tour when visiting the Game of Thrones filming locations. Read on!

Why you should visit Game of Thrones filming locations with a tour

If you are like us, you value individual travel above anything else. However, there are certain experiences that you simply cannot have on your own. Game of Thrones tours are like that.

While you could do your own research about where Game of Thrones is filmed and visit most of the Game of Thrones filming locations on your own, specialized GoT tours usually offer a much more unique experience.

Some Game of Thrones tours will have actors who appeared on the HBO TV series or people who met the cast and the crew as your guides. They usually share some insider stories and behind-the-scenes gossip. As a minimum, tour guides are usually big Game of Thrones fans extremely well familiar with the series and all the scenes filmed at the specific location.

Furthermore, exploring the Game of Thrones filming locations with local tour guides has many other advantages :

  • Expert local guides with excellent insider knowledge of the location.
  • GoT tour guides will not only tell you the history of the places you visit but also about the specific scenes filmed there, share insider stories and anecdotes.
  • Taking a tour allows you to see a lot in a short time without doing any prior research.
  • Quality Game of Thrones tours not only cover the key filming locations but make sure to also bring you to some other amazing places nearby. That way you also get to see some stunning gems that you would have probably missed when focusing your research solely on the Game of Thrones filming locations.

Thjorsardalur valley - one of the Game of Thrones filming locations in Iceland

Below you can find a selection of authentic Game of Thrones tours in some of the best-known filming locations in Europe . Read on!

Here are some of the best GOT tours in Europe:

Game of Thrones Tour Iceland

I think it’s safe to say that Game of Thrones had a big impact on Iceland’s tourism industry. Ever since Iceland was featured in the second season of the popular TV series, the number of tourists grew faster than ever before. In fact, it nearly doubled in the 4 years after Iceland’s first appearance in the Game of Thrones… So it’s probably not a coincidence…

While I strongly believe that Iceland is always worth a trip and there is much more to Iceland than what you see in this TV series, true Game of Thrones fans will, of course, be glad to hear that there is a special Game of Thrones tour in Iceland . At the moment, there is only one (private) tour that is focused entirely on visiting some of the famous Game of Thrones filming locations in Iceland.

Not only will you see some spectacular sceneries, but you’ll also hear stories about the making of the movie, the famous scenes that were filmed there, and get the chance to meet Icelandic horses that were featured in the Game of Thrones as Westeros garrons.

This Game of Thrones Iceland tour starts in Reykjavik and runs in all seasons, making it a perfect day trip for all the GoT fans visiting Iceland.

TIP: If you are planning a trip to Iceland, make sure to check our Iceland travel guide as well. It features practical tips, travel itineraries, and lots of travel inspiration for this unique country.

Game of Thrones tour Iceland

Game of Thrones Tour Ireland

Northern Ireland is one of the destinations that has the biggest number of Game of Thrones filming locations. So it will come as no surprise that this highly-rated Game of Thrones tour from Dublin takes an entire day. But what a day it is!

The tour is no longer called ‘Game of Thrones tour’, but the itinerary remains the same as before. You will see many of the most amazing scenic locations featured in the series, like the Dark Hedges, Ballintoy Harbour, Glens of Antrim, and of course the famous Giant’s Causeway. Giant’s Causeway is not a GoT filming location, but no tour of Northern Ireland would be complete without a stop here! In addition, the tour also stops in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland.

Just like all the other Game of Thrones tours in this selection, this tour is run by local guides whose insider knowledge and storytelling make it an unforgettable experience. However, since the interest in GOT tours has decreased, this tour is no longer specifically focused on the series.

This full-day Ireland Game of Thrones tour starts in Dublin and runs the whole year round. It’s a great way to see some of the most spectacular scenery and the highlights of Northern Ireland for everyone, not just Game of Thrones fans. So if you are traveling to Dublin and have a day to spare, I definitely recommend this as one of the absolute best day trips in Ireland.

TIP: If you are visiting Northern Ireland and are looking for the Game of Thrones tour from Belfast , check out this most popular GOT filming locations tour from Belfast .

Dubrovnik Game of Thrones Tour in Croatia

Croatia has quite a few Game of Thrones filming locations. The first and the most popular is definitely Dubrovnik .

As King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms, Dubrovnik has been the setting of countless Game of Thrones scenes ever since season 2. It’s, therefore, one of the must-see filming locations for any GOT fan.

This Game of Thrones tour in Dubrovnik is perfect for all first-time visitors because it gives you a short introduction to the Old Town of Dubrovnik as well. And just in case you are wondering, Dubrovnik Old Town has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List long before it was made famous by the Game of Thrones TV series.

This Game of Thrones tour in Dubrovnik takes just 2 hours and brings you to all the filming locations in the Old Town and also to the Fort of St. Lawrence, just outside the walled city. It’s an absolute must for all Game of Thrones fans.

Here you can find more details, check availability, and book your Dubrovnik GOT tour .

Game of Thrones tour is a must in Dubrovnik, Croatia

Game of Thrones Tours in Split, Croatia

Split is somewhat less popular among international visitors than Dubrovnik, but pretty much everyone I know who visited Croatia, says that they prefer Split over Dubrovnik. We recently visited Croatia and I have to say that both Split and Dubrovnik are worth a visit. And they are completely different to even try to compare.

Split is the second-largest city in Croatia and is full of history – a perfect filming location featured in several different seasons of the Game of Thrones.

If you find yourself in Split and have a few hours to spare, then a Game of Thrones walking tour through the Old Town of Split must be on your radar! Fans will recognize the 4th century Diocletian’s Palace, which was used as Daenerys Targaryen’s throne room in Meereen. The tour covers Golden gate, Vestibul, and of course all the cellars, corridors, and streets that you’ll recognize from your favorite TV series.

There are many different Game of Thrones tours in Split . Most of them are rather short and just focus on the filming locations in the Old Town. If you are looking for a short tour covering the highlights, then this 1,5-hour GOT tour in Spilt is probably the best you’ll find price/quality-wise. If, however, you are looking for a more special experience, take a look at the tour highlighted further.

What sets this tour apart is that in addition to Game of Thrones filming locations in Split Old Town it also takes you to the mountainside fortress of Klis, just outside the city. Medieval Klis Fortress previously only known to locals became a popular tourist destination after it was used as the city of Meereen in season 4 of Game of Thrones.

It also visits Žrnovnica , the place of the famous bathing scene of Missandei, Danaerys’s trusted maid and interpreter. In addition, this tour also includes a Game of Thrones-style dinner on location.

This Game of Thrones tour in Split takes about 6 hours and runs between April and October. Check it out!

Here you can find more details, check availability, and book this unique GOT tour in Split .

Diocletian's Palace - one of the Game of Thrones filming locations in Split, Croatia

Game of Thrones Tour in Malta

Malta was one of the original Game of Thrones filming locations. A big part of season 1 was filmed here, so if you’re nostalgic about the good old days of Game of Thrones, Malta is the place to be.

Some of the best GoT filming locations in Malta are the 17th-century Fort Ricasoli, San Anton Palace, and also Saint Dominic’s Priory – all of which you’ll recognize as the Red Keep. But probably the most impressive is Mdina.

Mdina is a fortified medieval town and Malta’s original capital. Perched high on the hill on top of the island, this walled city with a labyrinth of narrow streets and King’s Landing-style alleys is a must-see place for all Game of Thrones fans.

This full-day Malta Game of Thrones tour covers all the significant filming locations. In addition, it’s a great way to see some of the best historic spots on the island. This GoT tour is a must for all die-hard fans of Game of Thrones.

Here you can find more details, check availability, and book your Game of Thrones tour in Malta . However, at the moment of writing, it only runs once a week. Alternatively, you can book a private customizable tour in Malta and ask them to bring you to all the GOT filming locations.

Game of Thrones Tour in Girona Spain

There are many Game of Thrones filming locations in Spain, scattered all over the country. So unless you have a couple of weeks in Spain, it would be tough to see them all.

In this selection, we feature a Game of Thrones tour in Girona and also one in Seville, in Southern Spain – see further below.

Girona is a beautiful medieval town just a 1.5hr drive from Barcelona and you can visit Girona as a day trip. It was one of the Game of Thrones filming locations in season 6 that immediately put Girona on the radar of many international visitors.

For true Game of Thrones fans, I recommend this highly-rated small-group GOT tour in Girona . Guides introduce you to the popular characters and the key filming locations. They also show pictures from the film set in Girona, making it easy to recognize the places you’ve seen on TV. This Game of Thrones tour is also your unique opportunity to explore Girona and soak up its great atmosphere with an insider.

TIP: If you are looking for a Game of Thrones tour from Barcelona, you could just take a train to Girona and join the tour mentioned above – it’s really the best GOT tour. In addition, there is also an organized GOT tour from Barcelona . But from what I see based on customer reviews, it’s more a tour of Girona than a Game of Thrones tour.

TIP: If you are looking for a great day trip from Barcelona, you may want to visit Montserrat Monastery . Here you can read our Montserrat tour review .

Girona Game of Thrones tour is a perfect day trip from Barcelona

Game of Thrones Tour in Seville, Spain

Royal Alcazar of Seville is said to be one of those Game of Thrones filming locations that looks even more beautiful and special in reality than it does in the film. And that probably says it all… So if you find yourself in southern Spain, don’t miss the chance to see the Kingdom of Dorne in real life!

This Moorish palace dates back to 913, but has been rebuilt, renovated, and updated several times. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and worth a visit on its own. It is also the oldest European royal palace in Europe that is still used today (the upper chambers of the Alcazar are used by the Spanish royal family).

Royal Alcazar of Seville might not look very impressive from the outside, but once you step inside, you find one of the most spectacular Game of Thrones filming locations, almost too beautiful to be true. Not to be missed!

Here you can find more details, check availability, and book your Game of Thrones tour in Seville, Spain – the primary filming location for the kingdom of Dorne.

It doesn't appear that KKDay has the GOT Ireland tours any longer, fyi. I did a search on the site after I clicked on the link and it didn't turn up any results.

This is strange. Thank you so much for letting me know, Beth. I'll investigate this. In the meantime, you can find a small selection of GOT tours in Ireland here.

We will be in Barcelona in 3 weeks from now and would love to take the tour of Girona's G.O.T sites if that is possible. I am guessing that they run every day. Do you have any contact numbers that we could use to get in contact with these people and actually set up the needed exchange of info and money for tickets etc.

Monday 17th of February 2020

Hi Tim, you can just book the tours online and you'll get all the information - place and time where to be, etc. There is no need to call anyone or set up anything. We have a tour linked to in the article. Alternatively, here is one more Girona GOT tour from Barcelona. It only runs a few times a week though, but maybe you can find a day that suits you. Otherwise, here is a Girona GOT tour that runs daily. However, this one starts in Girona, so you first have to take a train to get there (shouldn't be too difficult). Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip! PS If you are looking for more tips for Barcelona, we have quite a few articles on the blog - check out here - Barcelona.

Where to find Game of Thrones tours and attractions after the finale

The thought of the  Game of Thrones finale is bringing bittersweet feelings to many fans, not least because it means an end to a brilliant piece of weekly escapism. While HBO is planning plenty of spin-offs to replace it, the legacy is being kept alive by fans and travellers around the world. We've rounded up some Game of Thrones tours and attractions so you don't need to say goodbye to Westeros just yet.

Northern Ireland

The spiritual home of the TV show, most of the indoor scenes were filmed here. The stunning landscape provided the locations for Winterfell, Castle Black, Pyke Island and the Kingsroad, to name just a few. It is fitting that TEC Belfast is hosting the touring Game of Thrones exhibition  all the way through to September.

Visitors can get up close and personal with the costumes, numerous props, and step completely into the atmospheric sets, including Winterfell Crypt and the Dragon Skull Pit; both of these key GoT scenes will be exclusive to the Belfast run of the exhibition. A few months later the tour packs up and moves on to its next (undisclosed) location. However the show's connection with Northern Ireland will remain in the form of a permanent Game of Thrones Studio Tour located at Linen Mill Studios that opens in early 2020.

Split is full of recognisable locations but a new Game of Thrones museum has just opened with more than 100 exhibits showcasing the magic of the show. There are plenty of genuine set items, sumptuous costumes, and excellent photo opportunities, including some with statues of the characters.

Walk the streets of Dubrovnik and you’ll be bombarded with offers of Game of Thrones themed tours, including people who worked on the show that are happy to share anecdotes from their time on set. If you prefer to go it alone, our guide to Croatia’s Game of Thrones locations will help you on your way.

For those sick of the political machinations of the Seven Kingdoms, Iceland is the home of the Free Folk, and the icy landscape is the perfect backdrop to any fantasy epic. This full-day Game of Thrones tour will bring you to some of the spectacular waterfalls featured in the series, a reconstruction of a Viking farm that was the setting for an attack by the Wildlings, and even to meet some of the horses used in the filming. For a more immersive experience, Guide to Iceland also run six- and eight-day full vacation packages.

Long before Game of Thrones , the Atlas Film Studios were hosting Hollywood epics and the remnants of their sets have been left in the world’s largest filming studio, gathering dust in the expanse of the desert. As well as Astapor’s Square where Daenerys thrillingly freed the Unsullied, you’ll spot sets from Gladiator , Jewel of the Nile and The Mummy .

Spain took an increasingly starring role in later seasons, providing the homelands for the Martells and Tyrells, as well as the windswept Dragonstone. Girona and Seville also lent their picturesque surroundings to King’s Landing, Braavos and the Water Gardens of Dorne. Viator  operates tours in these locations, including a day trip from Barcelona for fans.

With up to five Game of Thrones-related prequels in the works, it’s unlikely Westerosi mania will cease anytime soon. In the unlikely event that happens, the stunning locations will be there forever to enjoy for their own merits or through the lens of your favourite TV show. Our guide to six of the most beautiful Game of Thrones locations will get you started.

Wilson's new Ohio factory to make NFL game balls as company, NFL extend contract

  • Wilson Sporting Goods will unveil its new and improved factory in Ada, Ohio, as part of its extended multi-year partnership with the NFL
  • Tours of the facility will be available for visitors starting in July, which features a museum and a pop-up shop
  • Cleveland Browns' Jerome Ford, among others, attend the facility's grand opening

Whether or not the Cincinnati Bengals or Cleveland Browns are playing, Ohio plays a part in every NFL game every season.

Wilson is the official ball of the NFL (as it has been since 1941), and to celebrate, it's unveiling a brand-new football factory in Ohio.

Wilson Sporting Goods announced Thursday that the longstanding partnership between the sports equipment manufacturer and the league has been extended, per PR Newswire . The new factory in Ada, located roughly 88 miles northwest of Columbus and 68 miles southwest of Toledo, replaced the previously existing facility with an upgraded and expanded factory that is almost double the capacity of the previous plant.

New Wilson factory making NFL footballs has a museum, shop, offers guest tours

The new factory includes a football museum featuring Wilson and NFL moments, a pop-up shop, as well as manufacturing tours, which visitors can reserve tickets for beginning in July.

Ohio-based NFL greats part of Wilson's football factory grand opening

To celebrate the facility's grand opening, the NFL brought a number of Ohio NFL athletes to the new factory, including Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford and former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jordan Palmer.

Other notable figures at the grand opening include Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and former Ohio State players Cardale Jones and Ted Ginn Jr., among others.

"Wilson and the NFL are one of the most iconic relationships in sports, dating back over 80 years," said Kevin Murphy, Wilson's global general manager of Team Sports.

Elaborating on the duo's partnership, Murphy said that the sporting goods company "has been part of every snap, pass and touchdown in NFL history, and that the company is thrilled about the expanded partnership and facility."

The Ohio-based football factory is the world's oldest plant to produce game-ready footballs for the NFL season, which includes every Super Bowl and Pro Bowl.

Tour de France 2024: TV and streaming, schedule, stages, route, and what to watch for

Cycling’s premier event is about to get underway.

And it will look a little different than in year’s past.

The 2024 Tour de France, the 111th in history, begins on Saturday June 29. However, the starting point for this year’s Tour de France, as well as the finish line, will mark a series of firsts for the event.

To mark 100 years since Ottavio Bottecchia became the first Italian rider to win the Tour de France, this year’s race will begin in Italy, with riders setting off in Florence. The first three stages of this year’s Tour de France will keep riders in Italy, before the Tour’s fourth stage sees riders make the journey from Pinerolo in Italy, to Valloire in France.

In addition, this year’s Tour de France schedule coincides with the 2024 Paris Summer Games, which begin in Paris at the end of July. As such the Tour de France will conclude in Nice, with the final stage of the 2024 Tour de France bringing riders from Monaco to Nice.

This year’s Tour de France also concludes with an individual time trial, the first time the event has concluded with an ITT since 1989. That year saw the legendary duel on the final day between Greg LeMond and Laurent Fignon.

This year’s event has no shortage of storylines, starting with the battle between Dane Jonas Vingegaard, riding for Visma—Lease a Bike, and Slovenian Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates.

Vingegaard is the reigning Tour de France champion, winning in both 2022 and 2023 ahead of his rival Pogačar. But his status for this year’s Tour de France is a huge question mark, as Vingegaard endured a horrific crash at the Tour of Basque Country in April. The Danish cyclist suffered a broken collarbone, several broken ribs, a pulmonary contusion and a pneumothorax as a result of the crash, and spent 12 days in the hospital.

Vingegaard’s questionable form has opened the door for Pogačar to perhaps claim another title. The Slovenian took home the prestigious yellow jersey, the maillot jaune, in both 2020 and 2021; his victory in 2020 at the age of 21 made him the second-youngest winner in race history.

The two are the odds-on favorites to compete for the top spot on the podium again in 2024, but Vingegaard’s recent crash has made his rival the favorite.

Beyond the two favorites, there are some other riders in the field who could challenge for the yellow jersey. Primož Roglič from Slovenia, riding for Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe, is one of the older riders in the field but might have some unfinished business after losing out to fellow Slovenian Pogačar in 2020. Roglič failed to finish in both 2021 and 2022, but won the Critérium du Dauphiné at the start of the month, fending off a late challenge from Matteo Jorgenson from Visma—Lease a Bike.

Remco Evenepoel from Soudal Quick-Step is another rider to watch. The Belgian cyclist suffered a crash of his own at Basque Country, but seemed back in form during the Critérium du Dauphiné when he was part of the chasing pack that put Roglič under pressure in the final stage. Considered one of the sport’s premier time trialists, the schedule sets up well for him with the 2024 Tour de France containing a pair of time trials, including the one on the final day previously mentioned.

For American fans Jorgenson represents your best hope for Tour de France glory. However, his role this year might best be described as “undetermined,” given Vingegaard’s questionable form. Should Vingegaard be healthy Jorgenson may serve as an auxiliary leader for Visma, and one of the sport’s premier domestiques. But if Vingegaard struggles with his health as a result of his recent crash, the 24-year-old could be thrust into a major role. And given his recent performance — including finishing just eight seconds behind Roglič at Dauphiné — he is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

For more on the favorites in the 2024 Tour de France field Bernd Buchmasser has you covered here .

Here is how to watch, a look at each stage, and more.

According to the official website there are eight stages classified as flat, four stages classified as hilly, seven mountain stages (including four summit finishes: Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet in Stage 14, Plateau de Beille in Stage 15, Isola 2000 in Stage 19, and Col de la Couillole in Stage 20). There are also two individual time trials, along with a pair of rest days.

Overall, the 2024 Tour e France route covers 3,498 kilometers (2,174 miles) and contains 52,230 meters (171,358 feet) of total vertical climb.

If riders were hoping to ease into the 2024 Tour de France, they have another thing coming. The opening stage of this year’s Tour not only marks the first time the race has started in Italy, but it might be the toughest opening stage in history, featuring 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) of climbing. The final climb into San Marino, featuring over seven kilometers (4.35 miles) of climb at nearly five degrees.

The two toughest stretches are likely Stages 14 and 15, as well as Stages 19 and 20. Not only are all four stages mountain stages — meaning riders will have to conquer the mountains on back-to-back days — but all four stages contain a summit finish: Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet in Stage 14, Plateau de Beille in Stage 15, Isola 2000 in Stage 19, and Col de la Couillole in Stage 20.

Stage 9 is a very intriguing stage. While it is classified as “hilly” Stage 9, which sees riders start and finish in Troyes, it also contains 14 “white road” sectors. White roads on the Tour de France are dusty, gravel roads that have been a feature of this event.

In addition, the 2024 Tour de France concludes with an Individual Time Trial, the second ITT of this year’s race and the first time the Tour de France will finish in such fashion since the legendary LeMond-Fignon duel in 1989.

No UK visa or ETA required for this tour

Ireland is in the EU, but Northern Ireland is part of the UK. On this tour, you will leave the EU at 9:15, enter the UK then cross the border back into the EU at 18:00. However, you do not need to present any passport, national ID card or UK visa on this tour. Here are four points to help you understand why you don’t need travel documents.

  • Entering the UK via any port or airport will involve passports and visas checks, but the land border between Ireland and Northern Ireland has so many crossing points and so many people cross it in both directions every day for work, school, shopping, etc. that in 1998 it was agreed that checks on the movement of people across the border would be permanently removed, in both directions.
  • The terms of the UK’s Withdrawal from the EU guarantees that the 1998 agreement remains in place, even now after Brexit.
  • Our coach will cross the border from Ireland into Northern Ireland at 100 km/h, the speed limit on the motorway from Dublin to Belfast.
  • Starting in 2024, the UK will require all visitors who are not Irish or UK passport holders to present an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or a UK visa at all ports and airports into the UK, but not at the land border in Ireland, for the reasons explained. Indications are that the ETA will only be needed for those staying in the UK for 72+ hours.

So to conclude – entering Ireland/EU through Dublin port or airport involves passport and visa checks. Entering the UK through Belfast port or airport involves passport and visa checks. But crossing the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland has no checks, and never will have any checks in the future. This is why we say you will not need any passport, national ID card or UK visa to do this day tour from Dublin to Northern Ireland and back to Dublin.
