FERRARI   TOUR   TUSCANY:   AN   EXCLUSIVE   ROUTE   THROUGH   ART   AND   BEAUTIFUL   LANDSCAPES

After the Portuguese stage in the beautiful  Duoro Valley , the  Ferrari Tour  returned to Italy, closing the 2023 calendar in a unique region like Tuscany, home of the Italian language and culture.

On the weekend of 22-24 September , 50 Ferraris were lucky enough to drive along the roads of a magical land , among medieval castles , verdant vineyards , lush olive groves and breathtaking countryside . An unmissable opportunity, an exclusive dedicated only to Ferraristi registered with the Community who drove their cars immersed in culture and nature. Thanks to Ferrari they had the chance to access exclusive places and prestigious experiences expressly created for this event.

Welcomed into the heart of the Maremma countryside , the participants began a truly fascinating three-days' event: from the thrills at the wheel of their Ferraris on evocative motoring routes to culinary stages of the highest standard, savouring the authenticity of local wines and produce in typical Tuscan cuisine and visiting enchanting places steeped in history and culture .

The Ferrari Tour visited some truly extraordinary destinations in Tuscany: Villa La Massa , an enchanting XIII-century estate, home for three days to the Prancing Horse; the medieval village of Monteriggioni with its ancient traditions; the cellar of Fonterutoli Castle , in Castellina in Chianti, discovering the secrets of wine production; Pieve Aldina , amidst stone farmhouses, dense woods, graceful Romanesque parish churches, evocative Renaissance villas and imposing stone castles; the neoclassical Palazzo Borghese , a hidden gem in the centre of Florence; finally, the characteristic hamlet of Borgo di Casanova , home of the Laqua Vineyard for a prestigious culinary break.

Many moments of fun, conviviality and sharing for the ever more compact Ferrari Community : each stage of the Tour strengthened ever closer ties between the participants and between them and the Maranello brand.

A unique relationship, which has seen great participation in all the stages of this Ferrari Tour 2023, full of emotion, history, culture, passion and fun!

A journey that began in May in Apulia and, after several stops around Europe, ended with this spectacular stage on Tuscan land. This event also had a final surprise: the awarding of the ISO 20121 sustainability certificate by the certifying body TÜV NORD Italia, delivered into the hands of Matthias Prange, Head of Marketing of Europe and Africa. An important recognition for this Ferrari Tour 2023 and for the entire Prancing Horse world, which is always at the forefront of sustainable development and attention to environmental aspects.

New Ferrari SF-24 floor under scrutiny with questions raised over upgrades

Down from second to fourth in F1’s pecking order, former Ferrari engineer Luigi Mazzola says something has gone “wrong” in the SF-24’s development, and he believes it’s the new floor.

Losing ground to McLaren in the fight to be best of the rest when the Woking team put a ‘2.0’ MCL38 on the track in Miami, Ferrari replied with an extensive upgrade of their own at Imola.

New Spanish GP floor has ‘damaged’ the Ferrari SF-24

It, however, fell short of McLaren’s gain and, after Mercedes put a “eureka” front wing on the W15 in Monaco, Ferrari accelerated their latest batch of upgrades in a bid to stop the steady decline.

But putting a new floor, as well as other parts, on the car at the Spanish Grand Prix, Ferrari instead re-introduced porpoising and have struggled to match the pace of Mercedes, never mind Red Bull or Ferrari.

Although Carlos Sainz did secure a third-placed result at the Austrian Grand Prix, he benefitted from the crash involving race leader Max Verstappen and P2’s Lando Norris to gain two easy spots.

Mazzola, a former Ferrari engineer, is concerned that the new floor has in fact “damaged” the SF-24

“Ferrari is again the fourth force, clearly something went wrong in the developments,” said the Sky analysis.

“The porpoising issue reappeared in the fast corners. This new floor has damaged the car: it has provided more aerodynamic load, but it’s not a genuine load that can be exploited.

“The solution? If the floor causes porpoising, you have to raise the car or stiffen it, but if you do that, you lose downforce. So, in fact, you have more load, but you can’t use it.”

👉  The updated Drivers’ and Constructors’ standings after the Austrian Grand Prix

Since Charles Leclerc’s victory in Monaco, Ferrari have scored just 39 points while McLaren have amassed 84 and Mercedes have brought in 100.

Team boss Fred Vasseur stopped short of speaking about an “issue” that Ferrari are facing.

“The word issue is a big one,” he told the media including PlanetF1.com .

“[In qualifying] when we arrived at Turn 3, we were one-tenth in advance on Norris. It means that if we close the lap – and I know that we have to close the lap – I think the perception of this is completely different.

“But for sure, even when you get pole position and even when you win the race, you have issues on the car. If you don’t have an issue, you are at the beginning of the end.

“With their driving styles and so on, they can have different [issues]. But we changed the car massively between Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon and I think it was better.

“We changed a little bit the weakness of the car from corner to corner, but I think overall, we are there.”

Take a video tour of Ferrari's spotless new 'e-building' factory

Ferrari says maranello facility will boost flexibility, shorten car development times.

ferrari tour monaco

MARANELLO, Italy — Ferrari will use its new production site to boost manufacturing flexibility and shorten the time needed to develop and roll out new models, rather than to increase output, the CEO of the Italian luxury sports carmaker said on Friday.

Ferrari's so called e-building in its home town of Maranello, northern Italy, for which it has invested around 200 million euros ($214 million), will also produce its first fully electric (EV) car, expected to be launched at the end of next year.

"This building will allow us to shorten time to market or product development time," CEO Benedetto Vigna said at the plant's inauguration, adding these two activities sometimes currently overlap on existing assembly lines.

Vigna said Ferrari was not pushing for volume but for value.

"So, more money per car basically. We want to grow the company but not because we increase volumes," he said, adding a key tool to expand revenues from car sales was personalisations.

Personalisations are the touches that a customer requests to make the model more suited to their tastes, both inside and out.

"We want to have more tools, technology tools ... more flexibility to accommodate the need of more personalisation of our clients," Vigna said.

Ferrari's first EV will cost no less than half a million euros, Reuters reported earlier this week, and a second EV model is already under development.

The 42,500 square metre (457,466 sq. ft) new facility, which adds to the existing one in Maranello, gives Ferrari an additional car assembly line. It increases the company's overall theoretical output capacity to around 20,000 cars per year, versus less than 14,000 it delivered in 2023, Reuters has reported.

The company will also make key in-house components for EVs at the new plant, including axles, motors and battery assembly.

However, it will also use it to produce hybrid and traditional combustion-engine models, as it has plans to offer in the future a mix of the three engine types, to serve different kind of clients.

"The plant ... reflects the principle of technological neutrality," Ferrari said in a statement.

It "will allow Ferrari to reorganise and reallocate all production activities more efficiently among its existing facilities in Maranello, increasing its ability to adapt quickly to production needs," it added.

The new plant will roll out its first cars in January of next year, while series production of Ferrari's first EV will start in January 2026, Vigna said.

Tour de France 2024 stage-by-stage guide: Route maps and profiles for all 21 days

The 2024 Tour de France is a truly unique race beginning in Florence and ending – for the first time in its 121-year history – outside Paris .

This year’s Tour will wrap up without the usual procession to the Champs-Elysees, where security resources will be focused on the Paris Olympics starting five days later. Instead, organisers have opted to end the race with an individual time-trial in Nice, adding the possibility of the yellow jersey changing hands on a dramatic final day.

A map of the 2024 Tour de France route from Florence to Nice

Before that, riders face a typically gruelling challenge, with a hilly start in Italy before crossing to France where a perilous gravel stage awaits in Troyes. Week two leads the peloton south to the Pryenees and the monstrous Col du Tourmalet, before a series of days in the Alps including a particularly brutal stage 19 with a summit finish in Isola.

It all concludes in Nice on Sunday 21 July, where the race winner will be crowned.

Tour de France TV channel, highlights and how to watch every stage online

Stage 1: Florence to Rimini (hilly, 206km) | Saturday 29 June

Stage 1 map

The opening stage of the 2024 Tour de France will be a beautiful ride, starting with the Grand Depart on the banks of the Arno river in the centre of Florence before heading through Tuscany to the finish line on Italy’s east coast, on the beachfront of Rimini. The route also takes in San Marino, the Tour’s 13th country. But it will be tough on what is the most hilly first stage in the race’s history with 3,600m of climbing to conquer. It could be a day for Tadej Pogacar to immediately make his mark, or for an outstanding classics rider like Mathieu van der Poel to target, while young puncheurs like Ireland’s Ben Healy and Belgium’s Maxim Van Gils could be outside bets.

  • Stage 1: Romain Bardet shakes off peloton to finally claim yellow jersey

Stage 1 profile

Stage 2: Cesenatico to Bologna, (hilly, 199km) | Sunday 30 June

Stage 2 map

The second day throws up a more gentle ride, though it still contains six categorised climbs to test the legs. The purest sprinters will get left behind but the small ascents are unlikely to put off the more hardy fast men, like Wout van Aert , who will like the look of the fast finish in Bologna.

  • Stage 2: Kevin Vauquelin earns debut win as Tadej Pogacar assumes yellow

Stage 2 profile

Stage 3: Plaisance to Turin (flat, 231km) | Monday 1 July

stage 3 map

The long third stage will be the first opportunity for a bunch sprint to the finish line. Expect Alpecin-Deceuninck to try and control the final kilometres in an effort to position Jasper Philipsen for the win, but there is a stacked list of sprinters ready to challenge him including Arnaud de Lie, Dylan Groenewegen, Sam Bennett, Wout van Aert and Mark Cavendish, chasing a record 35th stage win to finally eclipse the great Eddy Merckx.

  • Stage 3: Biniam Girmay makes history as first black African to win a Tour stage

stage 3 profile

Stage 4: Pinerolo to Valloire (mountainous, 140km) | Tuesday 2 July

Stage 4 map

A tough fourth stage takes the riders into France via a couple of testing category-two climbs and to the foot of the Col du Galibier – the first hors categorie ascent of the race. The gradient averages only 5.3% but at 23km long, it is a draining slog of a climb to the top and the strongest climbers will come to the fore. Expect some attacks among the big hitters like Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard as we get our first real sense of the battle for overall victory.

  • Stage 4: Tadej Pogacar makes statement with dominant win to regain yellow

Stage 3 profile

Stage 5: Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Saint-Vulbas (flat, 177km) | Wednesday 3 July

ferrari tour monaco

The second sprint finish of this year’s Tour contains some small hills but nothing that should disrupt the power riders from reaching the finish near the front, where they will expect to battle for victory.

Stage 5 profile

Stage 6: Macon to Dijon (flat, 163km) | Thursday 4 July

Stage 6 map

An even flatter day looks ripe for a bunch sprint on the streets of Dijon. One small categorised climb early in the stage precedes an intermediate sprint which might be targeted by those hunting the green jersey, and a breakaway will almost certainly then take to the front of the race. But it is likely to be caught by the sprinters’ teams before the finish as the peloton’s power riders fight for the stage win.

Stage 6 profile

Stage 7: Nuits-Saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin, (ITT, 25km) | Friday 5 July

Stage 7 map

The first individual time-trial of this year’s Tour de France sweeps through thick forest before opening out into the picturesque vineyards of Burgundy. The only climb is the short Cote de Curtil-Vergy (1.6km at 6.1%), followed by a descent into Gevrey-Chambertin, and here Remco Evenepoel – the reigning time-trial world champion – will plan to take some time from his general classification rivals who are less adept against the clock.

Stage 7 profile

Stage 8: Semur-en-Auxois to Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises (flat, 176km) | Saturday 6 July

Stage 8 map

It may be officially listed as a flat day, but stage eight contains five categorised climbs and plenty more undulation, along with an uphill drag to the finish which should be enough to shake out some of the pure sprinters from contention. This could be a bunch sprint, a day for the breakaway or even a bold solo attack if the situation presents itself for an opportunist near the front of the race.

Stage 8 profile

Stage 9: Troyes to Troyes (hilly, 199km) | Sunday 7 July

Stage 9 map

The Tour de France takes on the gravel roads of the Champagne region to see out the first week, and the white dusty terrain could take down a few unfortunate victims. The 14 sections of gravel span 32km in all, and they are similar to the roads of the iconic Italian race, Strade-Bianche. The past winners of Strade-Bianche – Tom Pidcock, Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar – will fancy their chances here.

Stage 9 profile

Rest day: Orleans | Monday 8 July

Stage 10: Orleans to Saint-Amand-Montrond (flat, 187km) | Tuesday 9 July

Stage 10 map

The Tour heads down to the centre of France, where on paper it is a nice-looking day for the sprinters, but they will need to stay alert to winds which could split the pack along this twisting route south to Saint-Amand-Montrond in the Loire Valley. A short, sharp climb 8km from the finish could be the launchpad for a brave attack, though the muscle men of the peloton will hope to fight it out against each other at the finish in Saint-Amand-Montrond.

Stage 10 profile

Stage 11: Evaux-les-Bains to Le Lioran, (mountainous, 211km) | Wednesday 10 July

Stage 11 map

Six categorised climbs pepper a hard up-and-down day through the Massif Central. The third-from-last ascent is the toughest, the Puy Mary Pas de Peyrol (5.4km at 8.1%), with a painfully steep final 2km to conquer, and strong climbing legs will be needed to win the stage. A good day for a breakaway to escape and potentially stay away to the end.

Stage 11 profile

Stage 12: Aurillac to Villeneuve-sur-Lot, (flat, 204km) | Thursday 11 July

Stage 12 map

The ‘flat’ categorisation disguises the numerous small hills dotted through this picturesque route to Villeneuve which will drain legs if the pace is high. Expect a determined breakaway to make it difficult for those teams hoping to set up a bunch sprint at the finish – twice before, the day has been won by a rider in the breakaway here.

Stage 12 profile

Stage 13: Agen to Pau, (flat, 165km) | Friday 12 July

Stage 13 map

Pau is a staple of the Tour de France over the years, acting as the gateway to the Pyrenees mountains. The hilly finish to the stage might slow down some of the pure sprinters but they will be determined to reel in a breakaway – especially if they failed to do so a day earlier, and with so much hard climbing to come.

Stage 13 profile

Stage 14: Pau to Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet, (mountainous, 152km) | Saturday 13 July

Stage 14 map

The iconic Col du Tourmalet stands in the middle of this mountain stage, with the road peaking at 2,115m above sea level. The 19km climb averages 7.4% gradient and once it’s conquered, two more big climbs await including a summit finish at Pla d’Adet. The GC contenders will surely trade blows on this brutal day.

Stage 14 profile

Stage 15: Loudenvielle to Plateau de Beille (mountainous, 198km) | Sunday 14 July

Stage 15 map

A nice relaxing weekend in the Pyrenees is rounded off with five climbs over a 200km route, all rated category one or harder. Expect fireworks among the yellow jersey contenders as they race to the finish atop Plateau de Beille.

Stage 15 profile

Rest day: Gruissan | Monday 15 July

Stage 16: Gruissan to Nimes (flat, 189km) | Tuesday 16 July

Stage 16 map

This is the final chance for the sprinters to bag a stage before the road kicks up into the mountains once more. Those in contention for the win will need to keep their composure as roundabouts punctuate the long final strip into the line in Nimes.

Stage 16 profile

Stage 17: Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux to Superdevoluy (mountainous, 178km) | Wednesday 17 July

Stage 17 map

The peloton reaches the Alps for a day that will be draining as the road tilts from the start. There are bonus seconds to be collected at the top of the category-one Col du Noyer, before a fast descent to a small summit finish which caps a tough second half to this stage.

Stage 17 profile

Stage 18: Gap to Barcelonnette (hilly, 180km) | Thursday 18 July

Stage 18 map

A breakaway will certainly have a go at escaping up the road to clinch this stage, and they should be able to make it stick. The five official climbs are all category-three ascents which might mean some of the well-rounded sprinters, like Wout van Aert, can clamber over them and be a threat at the finish.

Stage 18 profile

Stage 19: Embrun to Isola 2000 (mountainous, 145km) | Friday 19 July

Stage 19 map

Perhaps the most eye-catching stage when the 2014 route was unveiled was this one: three monstrous Alpine climbs, back to back, with a summit finish at Isola. The middle climb of the trio is the giant Cime de la Bonette (22.9km at 6.9%), the highest road in France at 2,802m. If the fight for the yellow jersey is still alive at this point in the race, this will be a thrilling stage for the story to unfold.

Stage 19 profile

Stage 20: Nice to Col de la Couillole (mountainous, 133km) | Saturday 20 July

Stage 20 map

It may be a little shorter at only 133km, but this is another brutally tough mountain stage featuring four climbs and another summit finish, atop the Col de la Couillole, and it is another day when the yellow jersey could be won or lost.

Stage 20 profile

Stage 21: Monaco to Nice (ITT, 34km) | Sunday 21 July

Stage 21 map

The race will finish without the usual procession through Paris and instead see the riders contest an individual time-trial from Monaco to Nice that could decide the outcome of the Tour. The last time-trial finale saw Greg Lemond pinch the yellow jersey on the Champs-Elysees, beating Laurent Fignon by eight seconds. This route is longer than the stage-seven time-trial, and a little more hilly too, so there is potential for some significant time gaps.

F1 News: Charles Leclerc Reveals Ferrari Development Setbacks

Lydia mee | jul 1, 2024.

Nov 17, 2023; Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc of Monaco (16) celebrates after securing pole position during qualifying at Las Vegas Strip Circuit. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Ferrari 's Charles Leclerc grappled with a number of obstacles during the Austrian Grand Prix. A collision at the race's start marked the beginning of a series of difficulties that impacted his vehicle's performance drastically. The Monegasque driver has opened up on the struggles as well as the setbacks with Ferrari's developments this season.

Leclerc found himself wedged between Oscar Piastri’s McLaren and Sergio Perez's aggressive Red Bull RB20 at the start of the Grand Prix. The tight positioning led to a costly interaction when Perez and Piastri squeezed Leclerc, resulting in substantial damage to his Ferrari’s front wing. This incident necessitated an immediate pit stop for repairs, relegating Leclerc to the back of the pack early in the race. He remarked ruefully on the incident, stating, as quoted by the Italian version of Motorsport :

"Well, first of all we lost a lot with the front wing change at the beginning, then we did a whole stint behind Lando where I couldn't overtake because otherwise I would have had blue flags and would have had to let him go again.

"Both things made my race pace very difficult. When we had to use the pace to come back, we were stuck behind Lando and the rest struggled. Firstly, we are not competitive enough. And then, obviously, our race was massively compromised after the first corner.

"I mean, I tried to hold back, but I think... I think Checo was a little optimistic, it never ends well in the first corner if you try to go three-wide. The double-wide is already difficult enough, so the triple-wide was very difficult. Oscar didn't know, Checo was on the inside and I was a passenger. And then when you brake, Checo brakes even later and so once you're there, you're there. So I tried to manage the situation as best as I could, but it was impossible."

Further complicating matters, Ferrari's recent technical decisions have been a mixed bag. A new aerodynamic package introduced two races prior was designed to increase the downforce on the SF-24. While this goal was achieved, it inadvertently introduced other performance constraints. Leclerc continued:

"The downforce values brought by the new package are as expected and I confirm that, but this has brought other limitations that we need to examine, because since we introduced it we have had some difficulties. Today we set up the car in a completely opposite way, so I think there are many things to learn from the two configurations. I didn't feel comfortable, but we will analyse them and compare them."

"The truth is that in Formula 1 there are few coincidences, especially when it comes to two weekends in a row where you struggle. So we have to examine and analyse the situation. But we are seeing the numbers, so it means we have made a step forward. However, there are other limitations that we have to examine to try to eliminate them."

Looking ahead, Leclerc's outlook for the upcoming British Grand Prix at Silverstone is tinged with caution. He anticipates continued challenges, signaling ongoing concerns about the Ferrari team's current trajectory.

"I feel like Silverstone is going to be another tough weekend for us. If you look at the last three weekends we've struggled, so we haven't found a solution to improve things yet."

FERRARI   TOUR   SICILY:   A   JOURNEY   THROUGH   THE   WONDERS   OF   AN   ISLAND   WAITING   TO   BE   DISCOVERED

The opening stage of the Ferrari Tour 2024 unfolded in Sicily , an island renowned worldwide for its beauty and considered a true gem of Italy. An extraordinary region, steeped in history and culture, with a unique architectural heritage: a stunning open-air fresco set between sun and shining sea.

The Ferrari enthusiasts who took part – from every corner of Europe – embarked on a three-day journey in their Ferraris through stunning landscapes, idyllic beaches, and select venues where they had the opportunity to relish the sumptuous and refined local cuisine.

Departing from Terreforti Luxury Village, a bastion of elegance and relaxation situated in Agrigento, the journey included a number of stops, including: the Planeta Ulmo winery, nestled among hills dotted with olive groves and vineyards; Villa Igea in Palermo, amidst the flavours of local cuisine, framed by the seafront; Marsala and Favignana, including tours of the windmills, exploring the impressive local architecture, and savouring sophisticated cuisine for even the most discerning palates; a final stop in Castello Lanza Branciforte di Trabia, a majestic 14th-century fortress situated in a commanding position over the Tyrrhenian Sea, offering a captivating panorama of the surrounding region.

Nothing could be better to conclude a truly wonderful experience, full of history, memories, and plenty of passion to share in a group and experience in your own Ferrari.

This first stage was simply a prelude to a calendar brimming with events across Europe , ranging from Croatia to Spain and from France to the most exclusive locations in Italy.

Inside the legendary Casino de Monte-Carlo, famously frequented by James Bond

Secret agent vibes attest to the level of stealth wealth in the most famous casino in the world. Here’s an inside look of what goes on behind the scenes if you’re a VVIP at Monaco’s mecca of glitz and glamour.

Cue James Bond theme. A tuxedoed Pierce Brosnan pulls up to the legendary Casino de Monte-Carlo in a classic Aston Martin, gazes upon a red Ferrari parked at the entrance, walks in and takes a seat opposite a beautiful woman with a thick Russian accent and plays a game of baccarat.

That iconic scene from the 1995 film GoldenEye is pretty much what you can expect when you rock up to the most famous casino in the world.

Saunter past the parade of supercars gatekeeping Monaco’s mecca of glitz and glamour into a beautifully ornate world where the world’s richest gather in the hopes of multiplying their riches.

Built in 1863 by French architect Charles Garnier, the idea for the casino was first conceived by Princess Caroline as a way to save the Principality’s reigning House of Grimaldi from bankruptcy, following the acute loss of tax revenue after the nearby towns of Menton and Roquebrune declared independence from Monaco in 1848. To protect its citizens from avarice, the citizens of Monaco, known as Monegasques, were forbidden from entering the gaming rooms – a ruling enacted on moral grounds and still in effect today.

Curious visitors and tourists, however, are welcome to enter before 1pm each day and admire the Belle Epoque architecture and interiors of Casino de Monte-Carlo, which stands as a glorious specimen of the Gilded Age.

Stand in awe as you contemplate the rich tapestry of history that’s unfolded here over 161 years, enveloped by red velvet drapes, bas-relief embellishments and magnificent stained glass windows under high-domed ceilings. If these intricately-carved walls could talk, imagine the stories they would tell of the luminaries in time who have graced these gaming tables.

The games rooms open at 2pm and come nightfall, high-rollers try their hands under the warm glow of Bohemian crystal chandeliers. It is an exquisite aesthetic, indeed, and ripped jeans are certainly not welcome here, unless you’re an actual rock star, perhaps.

Now Monte-Carlo Casino may be most synonymous with the fictional British secret agent (also appearing in Sean Connery’s 1983 rendition of Bond in Never Say Never Again), but the institutional icon has also featured prominently elsewhere in pop culture, from the star-studded heist movie Ocean’s Twelve with George Clooney and friends to Kylie Minogue’s music video for On a Night Like This.

But it is the secrets held in the hidden passageways of the casino that hold the most intrigue.

SECRET DOORS AND HALLWAYS

There goes the James Bond theme song in my head again as Christian Barilaro, head of public relations of Monte-Carlo Societe des Bains de Mer Resort, which owns and operates the casino, escorts me past the visually-arresting public gaming rooms and handcrafted Black Jack and Punto Blanco tables on a private tour behind the scenes for a glimpse of what it’s like to be a VVIP here.

First, he shows me the side entrance that Prince Albert II and the royal family of Monaco use to access the casino from the inside of the wrought iron gate (heaven forbid blue bloods fraternise with the hoi polloi), as well as the secret elevators used to whisk celebrities, crown princes and other dignitaries from around the globe to private rooms so they can play their hands away from prying eyes.

ferrari tour monaco

Barilaro taps on a digital keypad on a wood-panelled wall and voila, a mirrored section of the wall opens a portal to a private playing room called the English Hall. More doors hidden in plain sight attest to the level of stealth wealth – and secret agent vibes – nestled in this ultra exclusive gambling den authorised for aristocrats.

To play here, I am told, high net worth individuals from around the world are required to apply to do so weeks ahead of their arrival. They engage international agents to facilitate this process, submitting income and bank statements for accreditation, as well as to authenticate the legitimacy of their monies.

While Barilaro can’t reveal the storied names that have walked these hallowed grounds, it is left to my imagination as I take my leave of this living monument. And that, precisely, is the magic of Monte Carlo.
