Eddie Vedder Tour 2024

Eddie Vedder tour 2024 announced : Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and his new solo band The Earthlings will embark on their first tour in early 2022, starting on February 3-4 at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The eight-concert tour, Vedder's first solo tour of the United States since 2012, will support his upcoming solo album, The Earthling, which will be released on February 11 via Seattle Surf/Republic.

As previously reported, Earthlings debuted live on September 24 at Vedder's Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California. The band features guitarist Andrew Watt (who also produced "Earthling"), multi-instrumentalists Josh Klinghoffer and Glen Hansard, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The Who's bassist Pino Palladino played with the Earthlings at Ohana, but due to scheduling issues he will be replaced on the 2022 tour by Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney.

At Ohana, the Earthlings performed two Earthling songs ("Long Way," which is No. 10 on the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart this week, and "The Haves"), played a handful of Pearl Jam songs ("Porch," "Corduroy"), and experimented with covers of the Pretenders' "Precious," Pete Townshend's "Give Blood" and the Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go," among others. Vedder has also performed several solo songs, including songs from the soundtrack of the 2007 Golden Globe-winning film Into the Wild.

Eddie Vedder will be touring in February to promote his forthcoming album Earthling and will be bringing his new band The Earthlings with him. The band will feature Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, bassist for Jane's Addiction Chris Chaney, former Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, guitarist/vocalist Glen Hansard and guitarist Andrew Watt.

Eddie Vedder and the Earthlings made their live debut on September 25 at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California. Their set included a handful of Vedder originals ("I'll Be Waiting," "Tender Mercies"), as well as several classic rock covers (The Who's "I'm One," The Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go") and a few Pearl Jam songs ("Better Man," "Corduroy"). The tour kicks off on February 3 at the Beacon Theater in New York City and ends on February 22 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Eddie Vedder 2024 tickets are sold on this site.

Eddie Vedder (born December 23, 1964) is an American figurehead of alternative rock hailing from Evanston, Illinois, U.S. He is known as the lead singer and guitarist of Pearl Jam and as one of the finest rock vocalists of all time.

Plagued by an unhappy, uncertain childhood, Vedder turned to music at an early age as a cathartic release for his worries. Drawn to the music of The Who’s 1973 “Quadrophenia” album, after settling in San Diego, California, the singer and musician joined a number of local bands including Surf and Destroy, The Butts, Indian Style, and the funk rock band Bad Radio. After becoming acquainted with Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ drummer Jack Iron, Vedder was invited to audition for a new band by Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament in Seattle. That band ultimately became Pearl Jam and released their debut album “10” in August 1991 on Epic Records. Aided by the singles “Alive”, “Even Flow”, and “Jeremy”, the album has sold over 10 million copies making it one of the most successful albums of the 1990s.

Vedder’s role in Pearl Jam’s success is of an indisputable nature and his songwriting and vocal prowess can be seen on all of Pearl Jam’s 10 album releases. On top of his Pearl Jam contributions however the singer-songwriter has crafted a host of soundtrack and compilation work including “Dead Man Walking” in 1995, “I Am Sam” in 2001, “A Brokedown Melody” in 2004, and “Body of War” and “Reign Over Me” in 2007. Also in 2007 Vedder provided the simplistic, heartfelt and folksy soundtrack to the Sean Penn directed film “Into the Wild”. His song “Guaranteed” subsequently won Vedder the Golden Globe award for Best Original Song, after which the singer embarked on his first solo tour in early 2008.

Continuing the simplistic theme of “Into the Wild”, Vedder’s sophomore solo album “Ukulele Songs” is a collection of simple original and cover songs performed on the ukulele. In addition, Vedder has contributed to the music of some of the highest profile music acts including The Who, Ramones, Neil Young, The Strokes, Cat Power, Bad Religion, and performed with the likes of Paul McMartney, Rolling Stones, U2, Jay-Z and Elvis Costello.

It’s that most relatable of woes again. You front one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the past twenty five years. A band that can be relied on to sell out arenas and stadiums the world over with their legendary blend of scything 90’s grunge rock and thunderous 70’s hard rock. However, just what is to be done when you want to take some time off from all that? The only way is down in terms of musical intensity and venue size but not necessarily in quality, as Eddie Vedder’s sojourn into ukulele led folk-rock magnificently shows. What’s more, it only gets better when he performs it live. Performing alone, for most part, on a stage strewn with ukuleles, acoustic guitars, suitcases and tape decks, Vedder captivates from the very start. That unmistakable voice more subtly deployed than in his day job but no less affecting. Playing songs from his two solo albums Ukulele Songs and the Into the Wild soundtrack dispersed with a multitude of covers that change from night after night, Vedder also finds himself joined onstage by a revolving cast of guests, artists like Roger Daltrey, Glen Hansard, Tom Morello, Cat Power and many more have performed with the Pearl jam frontman on stage and it’s electric every time. Even though you might know him best when he’s playing histrionic rock and roll, every side of Eddie Vedder is worth spending an evening with, and if you have any time at all for laid back folk then I can’t recommend a show of his enough.

It is pretty difficult to come away from a multi-platinum selling band capable of selling out arenas who are recognised around the globe and forge a solo career of your own that takes a different sonar appearance. This is exactly what Eddie Vedder has done, most commonly known as the lead singer of Pearl Jam.

Moving away from the grunge rock sound of the band, Vedder is more inspired by folk/rock and with ukulele in hand goes about entertaining the crowd with both his own work and inventive covers of his band's discography. There is quite an intimate attraction to seeing Eddie without the show of Pearl Jam and instead just taking to a relatively sparse stage with a few accompanying musicians. He goes about demonstrating the strength of his own recordings before reimagining 'Porch' and 'Man Of the Hour' all of which are received well by the devoted fans. Both the covers and solo work sound very unique to Vedder and once again shows his skill as a musician and his understanding of genre conventions.

Eddie is a class act. Great with the fans, giving away guitar picks via slingshot, always in a great mood, really enjoys playing and sharing his music as also admiring the historic venues in which he is given a chance to play live. He tries to speak a bit of the local language even though he sucks at it but aknowledges it with class and humor. Lots of great Pearl Jam material, epic covers and, of course, the best of his solo work. Creative, with great improvisation and great musical guests. From Porch to Unthought Known, to a symphonic, totally instrumental version of Alive, to Guaranteed and Without You, as also a lot of other classics like Can't Keep, Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town, Off he Goes, Immortality and legendary covers like David Bowie's Heroes, The Beatles' You Gotta Hide Your Love Away and, his apparent favorite: Neil Young's Rockin' in the Free World.

I attended the 2nd show Eddie gave in Amsterdam. After a hesitating start Eddie took over the Afas theatre only the way he can. Almost 30 songs in a bit more than 2 hours with some surprising covers and less obvious Pearl Jam songs. Sometimes he seemed a bit fragile and in his words to the audience there were jokes but also grieve was very present. Highlight for me was Man of the Hour in honor of his wife's grandfather.

Also the collaboration with the Red Limo Stringquartet was great, and even that great that they will be touring with him the next shows. Also the duets with Glen Hansard, even though he was in hospital all day because of a sore throat, were highlights.

Please keep on doing these kind of gigs next to Pearl Jam, and keep on amazing us.

I know realise how expensive tickets were, mine was one of the cheapest and it costed me 64 euros!!!

I can remember Pearl Jam's trial twenty years ago, against Ticket Master(which was selling tickets for this gig in Madrid yesterday by the way) , claiming for their tickets not to be more than 19.50 dollars, when Ticket Master was charging unethically 2 euros for management costs. Where are those times nowadays?

The concert was not any bad, but , once more, I got just astonished at the prices of merch: 30 euros a cotton

t-shirt!!! Ok , I think this is just going to be last time I go see Mr Vedder, guess he's grown up and forgot about his justice principles, BUT I HAVEN'T and I won't contribute no more to this incoherence.

Excellent intimate and personal experience with Eddie. Great crowd and atmosphere throughout the night!!

Glenn Hansard brought Dublin to the show and the Irish fans and visitors loved it...

Apart from the odd fool that drank too much and talked through aloud through some of the songs it was a very memorable night.

Highlight for me was Jeremy dedicated to UK election results and change in the world!!

I've always been a huge fan of Pearl Jam, but I confess I didn't really thought that Eddie could pulled a solo concert with that greatness. I was absolutely in awe with his concert at Firenze!

Imagine run a solo, acoustic concert, in a crowd of 55 thousand people, for over 2 hours, and let everyone in ecstasy? Well, he did it!!!!

Well done, Eddie Veder, well done!

Brilliant show. One of the best I've seen in the Marquee in Cork. Said it was his favourite visit to Ireland and it showed. Seemed like he was never going to stop. Good show by Glen Hansard as well - showed real camaraderie between himself and Eddie. Here's hoping he'll be back with Pearl Jam.

Incredible artist and talent as good a performer as you will ever likely see. Gig was brilliant could not have enjoyed it more. True rock legend and amazing guy. Great to hear some alternative versions of my fav pearl jam songs too

Pearl Jam Announces New Album and 2024 World Tour as Eddie Vedder Declares Band Has Made Its 'Best Work'

Pearl Jam will release its 12th album 'Dark Matter' in April, before a world tour kicks off the following month

A new Pearl Jam era is in full effect!

On Tuesday, the iconic rock band announced its 12th album Dark Matter , released its title track as the lead single and unveiled dates for a massive world tour kicking off this summer.

Produced by Andrew Watt, the album was crafted last year over a three-week stint at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California — and vocalist Eddie Vedder is extremely proud of the project.

"We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work," said Vedder, 59, during a recent private listening event at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, per a press release. "No hyperbole, I think this is our best work."

Dark Matter was crafted with Watt, Vedder, bass player Jeff Ament, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready as well as drummer Matt Cameron. According to the band, writing and recording as a unit made for a streamlined creative process, resulting in a special album.

"We felt like we were about to make a really important record," said Ament, 60, at the event. "A lot of that had to do with the atmosphere Andrew set up."

Watt, 33, a Grammy-winning producer, has become one of modern rock music's tastemakers. Over the past five years, he's worked on albums by rock stars including Ozzy Osbourne , The Rolling Stones and Iggy Pop as well as rock-influenced efforts by pop artists like Miley Cyrus , Post Malone and 5 Seconds of Summer.

"He has encyclopedic knowledge of our history, not only as a band and how we wrote songs, but as players," added Ament of Watt. "He could pinpoint things we did on old songs to the point where I was like, ‘What the f--- is he talking about?’ His excitement was contagious. He’s a force."

He then expressed appreciation for the producer. "I just want to say thanks for keeping us on track. I couldn’t be prouder of us as a band," said Ament. "I feel so grateful for the fans, but mostly for my brothers and these people I’ve made music with."

Dark Matter will be released on April 19, shortly before Pearl Jam launches a 2024 world tour across nine continents. Kicking off May 4 in Vancouver, the band will play shows in cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle, London, Barcelona, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Boston before wrapping in Sydney on Nov. 21.

Opening acts will include Deep Sea River and Glen Hansard at various North America dates, The Murder Capital in the United Kingdom and Europe, Richard Ashcroft in Dublin and London as well as Pixies in Australia and New Zealand.

Tickets for Pearl Jam's upcoming tour went on presale for the band's Ten Club members on Monday, while all other fans can register to purchase general tickets vis Ticketmaster by Feb. 18 at 11:59 p.m. local time for Europe, U.K., Australia and New Zealand shows and 11:59 p.m. PT for North America shows.

If Eddie Vedder fans didn’t already have their hands full with a new Pearl Jam live album and upcoming tour, Vedder’s new solo touring band The Earthlings have also added new dates to see them live this year.

On the heels of headlining a night of Vedder’s own star-studded three-day pacific coast charity-focused music festival in California, the side-project The Earthlings will play the Vino Robles Amphitheater in Paso Robles, CA on October 5, and at the Dolby Live at MGM Park in Las Vegas, NV on October 7.

All public tickets will be available through Ticketmaster Verified Fan Registration, which is open now through Tuesday, August 23rd at 5 pm PT. The Verified Fan Onsale begins Friday, August 26th at 10 am local time. Fans can register on the official site.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder formed his new live outfit in 2021 to support the solo album of the same name – his first solo effort since 2011’s Ukelele Music – which received praise from critics and fans alike.

The band is something of a supergroup, consisting of the core group who created the album: drummer Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers ), keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Josh Klinghoffer (who has performed with both Pearl Jam and RHCP), bassist Chris Chaney (currently of Jane’s Addiction), and guitarist Andrew Watt, who produced the album and will produce Pearl Jam’s next effort. The album also featured some impressive guest appearances by musical royalty Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Ringo Starr.

Vedder gave the group its live premiere at the 2021 Ohana Festival and followed that with a short winter tour with a guest appearance and tour support from Tony Award-winning Irish musician Glen Hasard, of The Frames and The Swell Season. The band played setlists made up of material from Earthling , as well as fan favorites from Pearl Jam, a smattering of Vedder’s other side project music, and a healthy dose of cover songs as any Pearl Jam fan might expect.

Before the Earthling dates in October, Vedder will hit the stage with Pearl Jam for a North American tour for the month of September, starting in Canada and ending in Colorado.

Pearl Jam has also released a new music video for “ Quick Escape ,” in celebration of their new Gigatron Live Edition , an 11-track live album from their 2021 tour.

Eddie Vedder ‘s Ohana is confirmed to come back in 2024.

This year’s edition of the Pearl Jam frontman’s annual festival will take place September 27-29, once again in Dana Point, California. The lineup has yet to be announced, though Vedder encourages you to sign up for text alerts for up-to-date artist and ticket info.

The 2023 Ohana Festival featured Foo Fighters and The Killers as headliners, as well as a solo set by Vedder.

Pearl Jam, meanwhile, is set to be on the road in 2024 and is confirmed to play the BottleRock Napa Valley festival in May, as well as Europe’s Mad Cool and NOS Alive festivals. The grunge rockers have also been working on a new album, the follow-up to 2020’s Gigaton .

Eddie Vedder Announces New Dates for 2023

Eddie Vedder will be returning to the solo stage to raise support for EB Research Partnership (EBRP). The shows will take place Monday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 24 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle with all proceeds donated to EBRP. ^

There will be two main ways to shop for tickets:

• Ten Club Members-Only* Presale powered by Ticketmaster Request — tap here to get started.

Eddie Vedder continues to try to protect fans’ access to fairly priced tickets by providing presale tickets to Ten Club members, making tickets non-transferable, and by selling approximately 10% of tickets through Eddie Vedder Premium at the market rate to offset increased costs. Tickets on this tour will continue to be non-transferable.

Can I transfer or sell tickets I can’t use?

Charges will begin on Wednesday, August 23 — you will only be charged if your request is fulfilled. To avoid declined transactions, please make sure your card has available funds to cover your maximum total.

I submitted duplicate requests by accident. What should I do?

We’ll only keep the details of your last submission. If you’d like to adjust any part of your ticket request, a new request must be submitted. Can I confirm my seats before my credit card is charged? What if I don’t like the tickets I get?

Once your request has been fulfilled, we will immediately process your credit card and assign sets. If I edit my registration more than once, will I be disqualified?

No, you won’t be disqualified. If you edit your registration more than once to correct a mistake, such as changing the show you previously selected, we only keep the last registration that you submitted.

I received a registration confirmation email, does that mean I will get tickets?

No, registration does not guarantee tickets. The registration confirmation email is simply to inform you that we have received your information and will be working to verify your account.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and his new solo band The Earthlings will embark on their first tour in early 2022, beginning with Feb. 3-4 shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre. The eight-show trek, Vedder’s first solo jaunt in the U.S. since 2012, comes in support of his upcoming solo album, “Earthling,” due Feb. 11 from Seattle Surf/Republic.

As previously reported , the Earthlings made their live debut Sept. 24 at Vedder’s Ohana festival in Dana Point, Calif. The group includes guitarist Andrew Watt (who is also producing “Earthling”), multi-instrumentalists Josh Klinghoffer and Glen Hansard and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Longtime The Who bassist Pino Palladino played with the Earthlings at Ohana, but due to scheduling conflicts, will be replaced on the 2022 tour by Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney.

At Ohana, the Earthlings debuted two songs from “Earthling” (“Long Way,” which is No. 10 this week on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, and “The Haves”), played a handful of Pearl Jam songs (“Porch,” “Corduroy”) and experimented with covers of the Pretenders’ “Precious,” Pete Townshend’s “Give Blood” and the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” among others. Vedder also performed several songs solo, including tracks from his Golden Globe-winning 2007 “Into the Wild” soundtrack.

Hansard will open all Earthlings shows with a solo set of his own, prior to his previously announced run of March dates in tandem with Marketa Irglova, his collaborator in The Swell Season and on the award-winning film and musical “Once.”

Active members of Pearl Jam’s Ten Club fan organization will have access to a ticket pre-sale through Dec. 5. All other public tickets will be available through Ticketmaster Verified Fan Registration.

As previously reported , Pearl Jam will return to the road in May 2022 to make up dates originally scheduled for spring 2020 in support of the album “Gigaton.”

Pearl Jam Continues On Their 2024 'Dark Matter' Tour – Setlist & Ticket Info

R ock band Pearl Jam kicked off their 2024 tour, named after the new album Dark Matter , in May and has continued along schedule through the North American leg of the tour.

The tour kicked off in May with a special two-night event in Vancouver and reaches various locations across North America and Europe through September before the band heads to New Zealand and Australia. The tour will conclude in November in Sydney.

The band released the title track from Dark Matter at midnight on February 13, 2024, which marked their first new music since 2020; the complete album was launched on April 19.

Formed in 1990 in Seattle, Washington, Pearl Jam emerged from the remnants of the glam rock band Mother Love Bone, after the tragic death of their lead singer, Andrew Wood. The current lineup includes founding members Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready and Eddie Vedder , along with Matt Cameron , who has been with the band since 1998. Keyboardist Boom Gaspar has also contributed to the band as a touring and session musician since 2002.

After battling illness, iconic rock band back on tour

Pearl Jam is back and fans are ready for it.

The iconic 90s rock band had disappointed their fans on June 30, when they announced via social media, not once but twice, they were canceling two European tour dates due to an unspecified illness.

But now the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are back on the road to finish out their Dark Matter tour, with 10 huge concerts coming up at iconic stadiums and arenas, as part of the second leg of their nationwide tour.

The group played Wrigley Field in Chicago on Thursday night, and a reviewer for The Chicago Tribune was mesmerized: " Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field was a sharp and vital show from a band that dares to get older ."

One of the highlights of the night was a fan being pulled onto stage to sing “Won’t Tell” with frontman Eddie Vedder.

Pearl Jam will play Wrigley Field in Chicago again on Saturday night, Aug. 31; Madison Square Garden in NYC on Sept. 3 and 4; Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Sept 7. and Sept 9, CFG Arena in Baltimore on Sept. 12, and Fenway Park in Boston Sept 15 and 17, before heading to California.

VEDER CALLS 2024 MUSIC ‘OUR BEST WORK’

The “Dark Matter World Tour,” celebrates the release of Pearl Jam’s 2024 critically-acclaimed 12th studio album, “Dark Matter.”

Pearl Jam was initially set to perform at Waldbühne in Berlin on Tuesday, July 2, and Wednesday, July 3, but these shows were canceled, to the disappointment of their die-hard fans.

The “Even Flow” band had also called off their Saturday, June 29, concert at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just days earlier, citing the same reason.

Their June announcement of ticket refunds had read: “We regret to inform you that the Pearl Jam concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd and Wednesday, July 3rd in Berlin have been canceled. We appreciate your continued understanding and support—it means the world to us.”

Fast forward to August, and Pearl Jam tickets are now available and hot for the taking and it’s a concert you do not want to miss.

“We still care about putting something out there that is meaningful,” lead singer Eddie Vedder shared in a press release. “No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”

Known for 1990s mega-hits like “Alive,” “Even Flow,” “Ten Redux,” and “Better Man,” Peal Jam today features Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Matt Cameron, Jeff Ament, and Stone Gossard.

Legends Pearl Jam Name All-Aussie Openers For 2024 Australian Stadium Tour

Pearl Jam are in the midst of gearing up for the Australian leg of their Dark Matter world tour this November, and have just unveiled the official support acts for their five East Coast stadium shows. In a legendary move, the grunge icons have selected two local Aussie punk acts to do the honours.

Femme-fuelled indie-punks Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers will be warming up stadium-sized stages for Eddie Vedder & co on the Gold Coast, as well as the Melbourne show on Monday, 18th November and Sydney on Saturday, 23rd.

While Aussie punk institution Cosmic Psychos will be doing the honours in Melbourne on Saturday, 16th November and Sydney on Thursday, 21st November.

US alt-rock icons PIXIES will also be coming along as main support for all shows.

Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter Aussie stadium tour marks their first visit to our shores in 10 years, since the 2014 Big Day Out (RIP).

It comes in honour of their 12th studio album,  Dark Matter , which landed back in April.

Something special happens whenever the Seattle-based group plays the Friendly Confines, and vocalist Eddie Vedder knows it. Wearing a fedora and a “34” Walter Payton jersey, the Evanston native mentioned the significance that performing at the venue holds for him and the band. During the encore, Vedder admitted he found it hard to sing due to how overwhelmed he felt.

Though many artists pay lip service to most cities with comparable praise, Vedder’s sentiments reverberated with sincerity. He nearly broke down in tears as he introduced a feisty solo cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” and said the late icon phoned him from Wrigley Field at what became his final local outing in 2017. Phil Donahue, a recently deceased celebrity with deep Chicago ties, also received a song tribute (“Down”) and humorous anecdote.

Prone to going off on extensive tangents, particularly in front of Chicago crowds, Vedder told a few other stories yet kept his banter brief. It marked a noticeable shift from last September at the first of the band’s two-date run at United Center. There, the chatty singer overshadowed the music at points with an abundance of storytelling, jokes and guest introductions.

Little has changed in the Pearl Jam camp since those arena dates. The biggest news? In April, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers released their 12th studio album, “Dark Matter.” The streamlined record holds up with a bulk of the group’s strongest fare — a feat that surpasses what a majority of artists at similar phases of their careers typically deliver.

Indeed, what Pearl Jam does as well or better than its contemporaries is age with its core audience. Vedder and company manage to both retain their creative integrity and embrace maturation, a difficult balancing act that on the surface violates unwritten rock ‘n’ roll rules. Whereas countless veterans strive to adopt a youthful sheen and then look silly pretending, Pearl Jam seems content with elder-statesman status.

Call it “dad rock” if you must, even if that slight doesn’t really fit. Pearl Jam continues to ignore the lure of the legacy-act trap. There’s often far more at stake at the quintet’s shows than feel-good nostalgia. Just as importantly, the band knows its fans and itself and stays true to both.

“We are old ourselves,” Vedder announced. Provided the historical context, few in the near-capacity, mostly middle-aged crowd could argue that fact. The singer, too, embodied the march of time via his physicality — motivated and animated as usual, but unable to jump high, swing guitars or run about as he did in not too distant of a past.

In many ways, Vedder’s adjustments mirrored the refinement of his band. Everyone appeared wiser for adapting to their circumstances. For a collective edging closer to its 35th year together — and for perspective, remember we live in a longevity-deprived era where the 10th anniversaries of minor albums are even treated as a big deal — Pearl Jam sounded determined, sharp and locked-down tight. Hungry, even.

Accompanied by regular keyboardist Boom Gaspar and multi-instrumentalist Josh Klinghoffer, the band channeled its energy into direct, dynamic music that placed rage on the backburner and targeted consequential outcomes tied to the here and now. Pearl Jam concerts tend to function as communal catharsis, a wellspring of optimism in the face of daunting odds. Thursday upheld that tradition with a plethora of shared encouragement.

The slow exhale and meditative spiritualism of “Release,” its gravity magnified by dim illumination that allowed the song’s mystical power to dwarf the nearly invisible band. The anthemic uplift and confident affirmation of “Alive,” boosted during its climax by the activation of Wrigley Field’s tower lights. The big-sky openness and soaring promise of “Given to Fly,” its arms-outstretched architecture tailored for welcoming thousands of strangers as friends. Mass experiences, and hopeful in the same persuasive manner that the folksy “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” proved bittersweet.

Pearl Jam addressed other romantic yearnings in more certain terms. Seated on a stool, Vedder dedicated a solo acoustic version of the self-described “wedding song” “Just Breathe” to a couple celebrating an anniversary. For the forgiveness plea “Won’t Tell,” he plucked a woman out of the audience and sang it with her as a duet. A paean to maintaining steadfast faith in dreams, “Setting Sun” offered the group an opportunity to build up from spare, quiet foundations and react to the rise of Vedder’s grainy baritone.

The band’s superb sense of pacing, rhythm and cohesiveness reflected the subtlety and smarts of its visual treatments. In line with its heritage, Pearl Jam shunned runways and pyrotechnics. It assigned priority to songs, yet used three screens — one center, one located at each of the wings — to display real-time action as well as abstract graphics and cosmos-inspired optics that doubled as secondary lighting elements. Sunspots, calm water, rolling waves, geometrical patterns and spherical arcs all reinforced the more cerebral aspects of the event.

Refraining from issuing any frank sociopolitical statements, Pearl Jam made its points with many of the songs it chose for the set and how it approached them. Following a barbed rendition of “Daughter,” Vedder changed the lyrics to the snippet of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2” to advocate on behalf of women’s rights and their jurisdiction over their own bodies. Primarily, the group conveyed its intentions via thinly veiled references.

A host of material — the power-pop “U,” the racing “Do the Evolution,” the epic “Immortality” — addressed themes such as self-absorption, blind obedience, privilege, greed and irresponsibility. With Vedder leaning forward and leading the attack from an aggressive knee-bent position, “Why Go” railed against unjust internment. The stun-gun sting of “Dark Matter” took dead aim at demagoguery, intolerance and inequity. The prospect of compromised climates further witnessed the group navigating “Wreckage” and outlining a “State of Love and Trust.”

Anchored by Matt Cameron’s frill-free drumming, Jeff Ament’s guided-missile bass lines and Vedder’s mix of snarls and shivers, standout recent tunes such as the punchy “Scared of Fear” came across as if they stemmed from one of Pearl Jam’s first two indispensable LPs.

The songs received extra jolts of electricity courtesy of Mike McCready. Left to his own devices, the lead guitarist established moods and dictated directions with scorching codas and sensitive fills. He blended tones with reverb, echo, wah-wah and fuzz effects. His left hand pulled, pinched and tapped strings to produce sequences that spoke with blues, punk, soul and garage-rock dialects.

As part of his monster performance, McCready exited the stage and climbed down to the front row. Perched behind his head, his instrument screamed with heady feedback in reply to Vedder’s dare to top prior versions of the oft-stale evergreen “Even Flow.” Challenge accepted. And, as McCready returned to his amplifier stack and finished the solo on his knees, answered and met.

Given the circumstances, it was a night that could only end with the band’s roaring take on Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Protest disguised as celebration, the classic served as a dire warning and united call for awareness. A telling snapshot of where Pearl Jam stands at this critical juncture in our time.

After a busy spring — the legendary grunge group released their critically-acclaimed 12th studio album “Dark Matter” in April and then took it on the road — the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have ten huge concerts at iconic stadiums and arenas remaining on the second leg of their nationwide ‘Dark Matter Tour.’

That includes a pair of huge back-to-back gigs at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on  Tuesday, Sept. 3  and  Wednesday, Sept. 4 .

They’re also slated to drop into Wrigley Field and Fenway Park .

Pearl Jam new music

On April 19, Pearl Jam released their 12th studio album “Dark Matter.”

And, while fans may have been incredulous when Vedder called the record Pearl Jam’s “best yet,” there’s certainly some merit to that statement.

The searing, soaring sun-drenched anthem “Upper Hand” is on par with the band’s greatest hits, and, for my money, has earned a rightful spot in live shows going forward.

“Running” thrums along and sounds like the soundtrack to a late-night joyride; the bluesy, romantic sing-a-long “Something Special” slows things down beautifully and album opener “Scared of Fear” is everything you want in a rock song — hooky guitars, hard-charging drums, tempo changes and unforgettable lyrics like “We used to laugh, we used to sing/We used to dance, we used to believe.”

Give this record a spin ASAP if you haven’t; “Dark Matter” is essential Pearl Jam.
