Long lines for cheap gas, "it's worth the wait"

FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — One Fresno gas station has people happily waiting in long lines to save a quick buck.

EZ Trip, located off of Shaw and West Avenues, has some of the lowest-priced gas in the Valley.

Fresno County's average gas price is $4.42 a gallon, according to AAA Gas Prices, but with EZ Trip's regular unleaded, you're saving over a dollar at $3.37 a gallon.

"When you have one vehicle, and you're commuting back and forth, this right here is a lot cheaper than anywhere else you're going to find," said Raymond Gallardo pumping gas.

Gallardo said he lives in Madera and works in Fresno. Even though there is an EZ Trip in Madera, he said this particular one-off Shaw and West is cheaper.

It's 22 miles back and forth from Madera," he said. "I'm saving in a week $30 - $40 buck, and that helps a lot, especially when working on a budget.

While inflation in California for energy, food, and rent has grown 19% since 2020 , according to the California Legislative Analyst's Office, people say they are willing to wait for the savings.

"I take my daughter to work, I take my grandkids to school, so the gas kind of goes pretty quick," said Sonia Espinoza pumping gas. "So this is the cheapest, and I live nearby, so it just makes it easier."

Even though this gas station sees hundreds of cars filling up a day, that doesn't seem to be an issue.

"You got to orchestrate a little bit, a little side shuffles, but we get in here," said Gallardo.

Cheap gas is hard to come by in California, the highest average price for gas in the state right now is $5.63, according to AAA.

It's a nice spot to get gas. It's clean and easy to get in and out of. There are plenty of pumps to go around. I have not been inside the convenience store so I can't really say any about that. I'd like to assume it's still nice inside as this location is fairly new. The only thing that was missing was the soap in the windshield cleaner bins and the paper towels.

This place has literally the 2nd best priced gas anywhere in and around the Fresno area. 1st being Costco, but you gotta be a member. But not here at E-Z Trip. No membership required. Always the best priced gas.

This place right off the freeway. Herndon and 99. Is always one of the best prices for gas in town. Right now $5.69 compared to over $6 per gallon at most other gas stations in Fresno, CA.

They need the better organization when it comes to the gas lanes--people either double parking or afraid to park next to the gas pump. This place is like a zoo, it's a come and go traffic and we thought we got the best gas but actually not! Is it real gas or they mixed some filler in it? Because It burned out quickly, and half the tank was gone after 20 miles. Peculiar!

My friend and I went here and the lady with glasses was so rude if I was the owner I would fire her we recorded her on tic TOC , but she was horrible

ive stopped here two times already before traveling back home and this place has it all. Gas, convenience items, and a subway..LOL. Always clean restrooms, and priced good on gas.

1-30-24/2030. May have had the worst service at the Subway ever. Employees were extremely rude and joked around with each other while making food. When I was rung up, I informed the employee wearing the nose ring that the tax was wrong and she said "pay for the food or you can walk out the door and not eat." THE WORST SERVICE. Go to another gas station stop.

Restrooms are clean and well kept..Service on the other hand, is not good. All I have to say is every single employee and manager that is on their shift right now, needs proper training and needs to learn how to perform the financial services offered at this location! I don't understand why a business would offer to perform any type of service, that their employees don't know how to do.. Ridiculous

This is a mixed review. The store itself is nice, but the employees need work (at least the ones I witnessed on 10/21/23). It was one female cashier in particular that made this so unpleasant- she was very unprofessional. By that I mean yelling at customers and making comments about other customers under her breath. Eww. That said, the physical property is good and the sandwich tasted nice. ‍

The store is good but the Taco Bell is trash. Wait 15 mins and my food is cold. Either they forget something or it's cold.

Lots of wasted space that could be truck parking. Locals take up most if not all parking. Piss poor planning. Wasted opportunity, car parking lot is 3 times bigger than it needs to be.

Came here as needed E85 as sign says $4.93 but pump was $5.09 a gallon. Gas is enough and to charge one the same price for E85 as regular unleaded isn't enough m, they falsely advertise the price in signs to lead you in only to charge more . The people of Madera supported them establishing a presence but very said that they will leave travelers in or through Madera with a bad taste for unethical business practice's.

Among the cheapest fuel in the area. Big station with a well stocked C-Store. They have some relationship to Pilot-Flying J, give the fuel discount and loyalty points for C-Store purchases.

New travel centers coming to Madera Co. to assist community and more

MADERA CO., Calif. (KFSN) -- A more than 15,000 square foot building is now under construction off Highway 99 and Avenue 12 in Madera County. This is the spot where an AM-PM and a few other businesses once stood before an overpass expansion project cleared them all out.

"There was a Jack in the Box out here," said Bobby Kahn, Madera Co. Econ. Dev. Commission." There was a 7-11 out here and all those were taken away by eminent domain through Caltrans."

The man building the new project here knows exactly how that feels. He bought the Fresno truckstop formerly known as Klein's in 2002 and turned it into his signature EZ Trip, only to see it dismantled in 2017 because it stood in the way of the high-speed rail route.

"It was very difficult. I really worked hard to build the business there," said Shawn Shiralian, owner of EZ Trip.

But now Shiralian and Kahn are both excited about the new EZ Trip travel center going up on this 10-acre property. It will offer a full truck stop with dozens of diesel and gasoline pumps, plus charging stations for electric vehicles and much more.

Shiralian says he loves this location because it's visible and easy to access from both sides of the highway. It's also close to the Madera Community College Center, so students and staff can stop for fast food or gas on their way to and from classes. The new facility will employ at least 70 people.

"Also it's a big sales tax generator, so it's great for the county of Madera in many aspects," Kahn said.

Shiralian also has another location in the works for Madera and two more in Fresno County.

"The future is very bright, definitely very bright," Shiralian said. "I'm excited to be back in business."

The Avenue 12 travel center is expected to open in mid-May, and the other three locations are in various stages of planning and permitting.
