Branson's Promised Land Zoo is the only zoo in Branson and houses many rescue animals across its 75-acre property. Among its critters are sloths, lemurs and reptiles. Admission also includes the drive-thru safari with antelopes, zebras, giraffes, camels and more. Like the rest of Branson, the zoo gets into the Christmas spirit and hosts a drive-thru lights display in November and December.

There are several ticket options for visitors to consider. Reviewers recommended purchasing the VIP Animal Adventure ticket, which costs about $55 for visitors ages 13 and older and $42 for children ages 2 to 12. With the VIP experience, visitors have the chance to feed, hold and interact with several of the zoo's creatures, including reptiles. Other included experiences range from a guided tram tour to a guided foot safari. Reviewers say the interaction with the zoo's animals make the pricey ticket well worth the money. Older visitors advised the foot safari was hard to navigate.

The Promised Land Zoo is about 4 miles west of downtown Branson on Red Route. It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and final admission to the zoo is at 4 p.m. Basic adult admission for visitors ages 13 and older starts at $26.95; admission for children ages 2 to 12 costs $17.95. Visit the zoo's website for more information along with pricing on different packages.

#1 Silver Dollar City

One of the best amusement parks in the U.S. , Silver Dollar City is a unique theme park that combines both thrilling rides and entertainment, as it embraces a down-home, late 19th-century vibe. Even while visitors scream their heads off on the newest ride, they'll still feel like they've been transported to the 1880s. Attractions like the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train, which travels through Ozarks country, and the signature Fire-In-The-Hole roller coaster, an indoor coaster that rides through "town" and across a fiery bridge, help foster the old-time feeling. With about 100 craftspeople demonstrating heritage crafts, everything from blacksmithing to taffy pulling, visitors get a lesson in 1800s life. Travelers can even take home souvenirs made by the craftspeople, from lye soap to blown glass, along with homemade candies and candles. The food at Silver Dollar City centers around down-home favorites, including buffets and skillet meals. Along with its rides and shops, Silver Dollar City is known for its shows, which range from bluegrass pickers to gospel performers to musicals.

Although Silver Dollar City is family-friendly, some say that the park is best for kids who are 36 inches or taller since there's a height requirement for most rides. Recent travelers also mentioned the hills inside the park, recommending that future visitors be prepared to walk. Some also warned that opening weekend was extremely busy with traffic and ride lines and it's best to avoid. If you don't want to purchase snacks in the park, pack your own; Silver Dollar City allows visitors to bring in food and nonalcoholic beverages.

The below roadside attractions and must-visit stops are in order from Kansas City to Branson.

Don't forget to check days and times before planning your visit to any of the below locations to ensure that your desired attractions and stops are open and available during your trip.

1. The Truman Family Farm in Grandview

The Truman Farm Home is a Missouri National Historic Site and run by the National Park Service.

The Harry S Truman National Historic Site is a must-visit destination for history buffs and presidential enthusiasts alike. This site encompasses the Truman Farm home, where President Truman spent 11 years of his early life. Originally a sprawling 600-acre farm, today, the Truman Farm home and the surrounding 10 acres have been carefully preserved to honor Truman's legacy.

Visitors to the site can step back in time and experience what life was like on the farm in the early 20th century. The farmhouse, where Truman lived with his family, had no electricity or indoor plumbing, and the family worked long, grueling days from 5 am until well after dusk. Truman left the farm to serve in the National Guard during World War I, returning only after the war ended to marry his beloved Bess Wallace.

The grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset. There are free ranger-led tours on Fridays and Saturdays from May 5, 2023-October 21,2023.

Address: 12301 Blue Ridge Blvd, Grandview, MO 64030

2. The Peculiar Winery

If you packed a picnic lunch, this is a great exit (weather permitting) for a pit stop with some beautiful lake views. This area is a popular spot for birding and home to hundreds of species.
