Coldplay Unveil Special Run Of North American Tour Dates

By Katrina Nattress

coldplay on tour in the us

After spending most of 2022 on the road, Coldplay 's gearing up for another year of their Music of the Spheres world tour. In March, they'll play makeup dates in Brazil after being forced to cancel due to Chris Martin suffering from a severe lung infection . They'll then head to the UK and Europe for the summer, but that's not where the tour will end. On Monday (January 23), Coldplay unveiled a special west coast run of dates that sees them playing stadiums in California, Washington, and British Columbia in September. H.E.R. and Shake 070 are set to play support on all four dates.

Even though they're currently on a break from touring, Coldplay has kept themselves plenty busy the past few months. At the beginning of December, Martin confirmed they were in the studio , and the following week Nile Rodgers revealed he had been working on new music with the band. "Yesterday, I worked with Coldplay for the first day," Rodgers said at the time. "We had a blast. What was great working with Coldplay is that we’re all in the room together and it’s sort of like a spiritual thing. Let's go."

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin sings on a colorful stage.

Sometimes, you just gotta “Viva La Vida.”

And rather than take time off following their worldwide 2022 “Music of the Spheres Tour,” Coldplay will go hard all year long.

After performing live at the 20th anniversary of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Jan. 26, they’ll serve as the Musical Guest on the Feb. 4 episode of “Saturday Night Live” and then return to the road later this year for international dates in Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland and The Netherlands before closing their year with a quick seven-concert West Coast tour from Sept. 20 through Oct. 1 .

Although they played a few shows in California and Arizona last year, this time, they’re making sure to cover all their bases.

First, Chris Martin and co. will swoop into the Pacific Northwest and play stadium shows in Seattle (Sept. 20) and Vancouver ( Sept. 22 , Sept. 23 ).

Then, they’ll wrap with four California shows in San Diego ( Sept. 27 , Sept. 28 ) and Pasadena ( Sept. 30 , Oct. 1 ).

Some tickets are fairly inexpensive to see the seven-time Grammy winners too.

In fact, we’re happy to report that some tickets are going for as low as $77 before fees on Vivid Seats at the time of publication.

All prices are subject to fluctuation.

They’ll be joined by H.E.R. and 070 Shake for all North American “Music of the Spheres Tour” dates.

Coldplay 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar including all of Coldplay’s upcoming tour dates, venues and the cheapest tickets available for each show can be found below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Coldplay opening acts

Each and every North American show will see Coldplay joined by H.E.R. and 070 Shake.

Here’s what you need to know about each of them.

H.E.R. is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter who has become one of the biggest names in R&B over the past few years. In addition to winning a Grammy and Oscar for her original songs, If you want to acquaint yourself with her catalogue, we recommend starting with her 2021 album “Back Of My Mind.”

070 Shake exploded onto the mainstream after singing the hook on controversial rapper Kanye West’s “Ghost Town.” Since then, she’s lent her voice to rappers Nas and Pusha T’s music as well. For a quick primer, make sure to pop in your headphones and try out her records “Modus Vivendi” and “You Can’t Kill Me.”

Coldplay new music

In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest , Coldplay shared that they’re only going to release “three more albums.”

“…but lots more tours,” Martin told Seacrest. “Sometimes you can just feel when a story is going to end and that’s what I feel about our albums.”

One of those three may be coming soon though.

“We’re finishing an album called ‘Moon Music,'” Martin told City News . “(It) is the second ‘Music Of The Spheres’ volume, but that won’t come out for a little bit.”

Martin added, “We might start playing some songs at some point this year.”

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” 20th Anniversary show

Rather than just invite any old A-Listers to his 20th Anniversary show, Jimmy Kimmel went back to his roots and brought back the guests from his very first episode where he interviewed himself from 20 years ago .

Other guests beside his past self on Jan. 26 were “Ticket to Paradise” star George Clooney, rapper Snoop Dogg and, of course, Coldplay.

You can see Chris Martin’s tongue-in-cheek interview followed by the group’s spellbinding performance of their anthem “Clocks” below.

Its popularity sparked from constant reinvention and adaptation to the unpredictable pop music climate. Today, Coldplay continues to set a new standard for up-and-coming musicians. Artists often follow in the group’s footsteps, hoping to leave behind a legacy as strong as theirs. With more albums on the way, the band is undoubtedly ready to reinvigorate their sound all over again.

Coldplay began when lead vocalist Chris Martin and guitarist Jonny Buckland met during orientation week for their studies at University College London in 1996. Originally called Pectoralz, the band included Guy Berryman on bass and Will Champion on drums. Over the years, the group took on other unique titles like Starfish before eventually becoming Coldplay.

The band had a major breakthrough with their hugely popular single “Yellow” in 2000. It broke into the UK Top 5 and paved the way for Coldplay’s debut album, Parachutes, released through Parlophone Records. The album launched the band to commercial success and critical acclaim, receiving multi-platinum status and many highly revered awards, including two Brit awards for Best British Group and Best British Album. Coldplay also received recognition from the Recording Academy and won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album in 2002.

Coldplay followed Parachutes up with A Rush of Blood to the Head in 2002, spawning several hit singles, including “In My Place,” “Clocks,” and “The Scientist.” The band supported their sophomore album with increasingly extensive and elaborate live shows as they toured across five continents, including performances at Glastonbury Festival, Australia’s Hordern Pavilion, and the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

The group subsequently released the album X&Y in 2005, which became the best-selling LP of the year thanks to hit singles like “Speed of Sound,” “Fix You,” and “Talk.” Three years later, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends was produced by the infamous Brian Eno and became one of the most successful albums in UK music history. Tracks like “Violet Hill” and “Viva la Vida” helped heighten Coldplay’s versatile discography.

Ahead of Coldplay’s fifth studio release, the band debuted the lead single “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” and secured various headlining festival slots at Glastonbury, T in the Park, Austin City Limits Music Festival, and Lollapalooza. Mylo Xyloto arrived in October 2011, topping the charts in over 34 countries and gaining impressive accolades in the music industry.

In early 2014, Coldplay released the singles “Midnight” and “Magic” ahead of their next record, Ghost Stories. The album received mixed-to-positive reviews and quickly topped the charts in the UK, US, and more.

Throughout a highly illustrious and esteemed career, Coldplay has garnered eight Brit Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, and seven Grammy Awards from 25 nominations. The band has sold over 80 million records worldwide because of its dynamic approach to each new album.

In 2020, Coldplay set out to make a groundbreaking record. Music of the Spheres became a legendary addition to their discography, taking the music world by storm thanks to the lead single “Higher Power.” The Max Martin-produced track further cemented Coldplay’s influence on the pop genre.

A collaboration with one of K-pop’s most notable boy bands took them further. “My Universe” featured BTS’s star power and Coldplay’s knack for reenergized pop production. After the track quickly skyrocketed to the top, Music of the Spheres appealed to a new generation.

Another exciting feature from Selena Gomez on “Let Somebody Go” reinforced the record’s bold message: Human connections keep people together while differences, unfortunately, push them apart. For many music fans, this heartfelt statement was essential to hear. Ultimately, the band’s ninth studio album easily hit number one in the UK. As one of the fastest-selling UK LPs in 2021, it marked another iconic achievement for Coldplay.

With most of the live music industry on hold from 2020 to 2021, postponed tour dates became the norm. Every fan’s desire to see their favorite band began to resurge in the new year. Coldplay had the perfect solution for their loyal supporters.

Besides their global tour, the group provided a live broadcast of their Buenos Aires gig at River Plate Stadium. Dedicated listeners got to see the Music of the Spheres tour up close and personal in the comfort of their hometown theater. Multiple screenings allowed fans to witness the high-energy Argentina concert and paved the way for a more accessible concert experience, especially in the post-pandemic era.

After nearly 25 years together, Coldplay remains a force to be reckoned with. A one-of-a-kind sound, inspirational lyrics, and vibrant live shows effortlessly capture the magic of this revolutionary band. Not to mention, the group’s star-studded collection of top-notch collabs with BeyoncĂ©, Rihanna, Tove Lo, and many others seal the deal on their music legend status. Additional work with well-known music producers like Max Martin and Rik Simpson is also a solid accomplishment.

Live reviews

I had always heard Coldplay were a fantastic band to see live. They did not disappoint last night at Fedex Field, right in the midst of their joyous and decidedly over-the-top Head Full of Dreams tour.

The show began with an explosion of color and light (including the LED wristbands supplied to every concertgoer) in the titular track on the band's touring album. Then came fan-favorite "Yellow," followed by "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall," the ever-popular "The Scientist," and "Birds" (the latter was a bit of a personal disappointment as it replaced the brilliant "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" from recent setlists). This part of the show finished with the anthem "Paradise," featuring an incredible remix outro.

Next the show slowed down for an intimate trio of songs (most of us actually took a seat). This included one of the better tracks from the sub-par "Ghost Stories", "Magic."

Soon, however, things picked up with the timeless piano strokes of "Clocks," themed to a magical red light show. Next came the lighthearted "Charlie Brown." Before it began, lead singer Chris Martin asked everyone to put away their phones and simply enjoy the show. This was followed by the radio hit "Hymn for the Weekend," a candlelit (okay...Iphone flashlight lit) "Fix You," and "Viva la Vida." This last one was remarkable, as nearly the entire stadium knew the lyrics and sang along to the triumphant "Oh-oh-ohhhh" chant. The groovy "Adventure of a Lifetime" finished off this section, featuring Chris gettin' down with the audience, asking everyone to "Get low!"

Then came the highlight of the night for me: an acoustic quad of older (*cough* better *cough*) Coldplay songs which were as intimate as they were nostalgic. The lovely riffs of "In my Place" started off the set. "Don't Panic" was sung by drummer Will Champion; it's one of my favorites. But it couldn't top what was (for me) the best song of the night: "Trouble." Somber but beautiful in its own way, "Trouble" is a rare find in the setlists of today's Coldplay and was absolutely fantastic. Finally came another rare gem: "Green Eyes," which was somewhat marred by Chris's well-intentioned attempt at giving the local Redskins some luck (HA! what folly) by changing the lyrics.

The finale of the show was the hopeful and popular trio of "Something Just like This," "A Sky Full of Stars," and "Up and Up." This last track was played against the backdrop of the magical and visually stunning music video for the song.

And if there were two adjectives to sum up the show as a whole, they would be just that: magical and visually stunning. Thanks for an awesome show, Coldplay!

If you're wondering what to expect from Coldplay, expect the best show of your life! This was my first time seeing Coldplay at the Royal Albert Hall in London and I have to say this was one of best nights of my life. No exaggeration. They performed many of their most popular classics such as "Fix you" and "The Scientist" and pretty much all of my favourites "Charlie Brown" and "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" including new tracks from their latest album, Ghost Stories. The atmosphere was incredible; I've never experienced anything like it in comparison. You just had to be there! Coldplay had you dancing out of your seats for their upbeat tracks such as "Sky Full Of Stars" and hearing their more mellow tracks like "True Love" was just simply beautiful and enchanting. Their playlist for the night was definitely on point and well connected with the crowd and us fans. The stage was right in the center so I'm pretty sure everyone had a great view, it was all set up very well and the lighting looked brilliant. And as for my most memorable experience? The whole gig! There was a point at the end of "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" when Chris Martin literally threw his electric guitar in the air and let it smash the floor for an epic finish, everyone went crazy!!! Coldplay has been a strong British iconic band for many years now, they know how to put on a show and they honestly do give it their all. Me and my friend are proud to say that we was there that night, last thing I have to say is that if you ever get the chance to see Coldplay live, grab your tickets and grab them quick! I promise you, you won't be disappointed in the slightest. Prepare to be blown away!

This was my second time seeing Coldplay, and both times were amazing. The song choice was great, with a mix of classic hits ("Yellow", "The Scientist", "Viva la Vida", "Paradise"( old favourites ("Til Kingdom Come", and "Shiver" being played upon request), and newer, more high energy songs off "A Head Full of Dreams".

The Xylobands were a hit again, really making a spectacular light show along with various other effects, and colourful balloons being released into the crowd. The whole audience was just so full of energy thanks to the band's performance. Since it was raining heavily, the roof had to be covered, which meant no fireworks, but the band still delivered an amazing show despite this.

Frontman Chris Martin always creates a great atmosphere, with enthusiasm and positivity, like carrying the country's flag in his back pocket, and apologising for the fact that, as he put it, "Britain did something pretty stupid last week..." and just generally making the crowd feel great with humour and honesty. All of the band members just look really comfortable with each other and deliver a really great performance together.

Tributes were very nicely and elegantly paid to Muhammad Ali and David Bowie, and the final song, "Up & Up", ended the concert on a really positive note, and I would definitely recommend Coldplay to anyone who has the chance to see them play live.

There is little in this world that compares to a Coldplay concert. Exhilarating, energetic and euphoric are just some of the words that can be used to describe what one experiences when Chris Martin and band take to the stage.

One of my most memorable concert experiences ever, when Coldplay played the Emirates Stadium back in 2012, it was simply astounding. Extravagant production and simply phenomenal live music, it became clear to me why tickets for these shows trade hands for thousands and why fans travel far and wide.

Hearing 60,000 people sing word for word hit singles such as Paradise, Fix You and Princess of China made the hairs on my arms stand on end, so one can only imagine how this must feel for the band.

Their track record speaks for itself. Eight Brit Awards, seven Grammys, six number one albums and 60 million record sales make Coldplay’s success undeniable and they continue to reign as one of the world’s biggest bands. The reason behind this success becomes clear at a live show.

As a live act, Coldplay have achieved things that others have not. They are truly in a league of their own and this can only be understood when you witness this for yourself. I have tried but my words simply cannot capture the magic.

First of all I need to just say wow! Wow! Yesterday I experienced one of the greatest nights of my life. Yesterday I really did feel like I was part of something special, something so big and beautiful. The love, the happiness and the excaitment people were feeling last night were something you can't put words on. We stood in the rain for so many hours, we sat in a que and then we stood in the rain again.. but let me just say that when Coldplay came on stage they put on the best god damn show ever. You could really feel their thankfulness during the show. They promised us (in Chris Martins own words) "The best fucking show ever" and let me tell you it was! During the night I got to experience people from different countries dancing and singing along together, I got to experience that moment when Chris decided to write a new song about Sweden and Gothenburg! The night was amazing in so many ways. And just as he said during the night, that he believes when people are working together and last night everybody in that arena stood together. We celebrated the music, the evening and most of all we celebrated the love. Because in the end of the day Love is what matters and it will always win.

Yesterday was beautiful, just pure beautiful!

Since the release of Coldplay's fifth album 'Mylo Xyloto' the emphasis of their live show appears to be on the theatrics and the avant-garde. An album so super charged with power pop it was considered a substitute to red bull, the band quickly substituted the tender subtleties of 'Shivers' for the brass tones of 'Charlie Brown' and 'Hurts Like Heaven'. These new tracks are undoubtedly anthemic yet the visual displays and complexing stage layouts slightly detract from the musicianship of the quartet. Whilst performing the more downtempo and emotive tracks from break up album 'Ghost Stories' Chris Martin's vocal sounds notably weak during 'Magic' and all of the pyro-techniques and visuals cannot hide this.

They recover with some classics including 'The Scientist' which is sang back in force by the crowds and the flawless 'Every Teardrop is A Waterfall' closes the main set in a suitably euphoric manner. However the choice to return with the floundering and flat 'anthem' 'Sky Full of Stars' which Chris consistently fails to deliver vocally seems a poor way to close a tour from one of the world's most esteemed pop/rock bands. It leaves the audiences wondering if 'Mylo Xyloto' was a particular career pinnacle for the band.

A Coldplay concert is a real face to face experience for a someone who love their songs. It may not be an intimate experience but considering the legions of fans that they have only a concert can accommodate everyone who are waiting all their lives for a chance to hear them live. and they never disappoint. A total performance complete with lasers and light and firework BUT without much fanfare, just them singing & playing their hearts OUT song after song alone or in harmony with the fans some crying, most gleefully dancing to their upbeat song or swaying OR slow dancing to slow Fix You or Yellow and probably thinking of someone they "cannot replace". Chris Martin is an awesome guy and so are the rest of the band. May their personal lives be as awesome as their professional lives, they deserve that too. as to Singapore, it may not be as engaging as it would be in the Philippines but hey, no one can complain; i had the best time celebrating my birthday in one of the best stadium this side of town with around 50K Coldpay fans celebrating with me :) :). Long live Coldplay, may you continue to bring joy to you fans worldwide. Looking forward to another Coldplay concert experience in the future.

Most AMAZING show I've EVER seen. I've seen some legends. The Who, BB King, Depeche Mode five times, the Cute, Social Distortion, Blue October, many, many more. Coldplay blew them ALL away by far, and I even had crappy seats. I see them again in Philly in August, and I'm counting down the days! Fireworks! The bracelets lit up and changed colors with the stage lighting. Michael J Fox made a special guest appearance playing "Earth Angel" and "Johnny B Good" with the band. He was spectacular!! The show lasted just over two hours, but it felt like it had just started. Chris Martin may very well be the greatest front man of all time. He can work a crowd, even the stuffed shirts, like nobody's business. Coldplay is my favorite band for a reason, only a few of them listed above. They're all classically trained musicians. All of them multi-instrumentalists. Songs range from ballads to get up on your feet and jump around beats! AMAZING show, AMAZING band! I love you Guy, Jonny, Will, and Chris. Please keep doing what you're doing.

Piece of para paraa paradise in Berlin!!! It was one of the best shows in my life (if it comes to visual effects), all of these confetti, colourful powders in the air, and big baloons! One big WOW. Chris and his band were so joyful, funny and relaxed. I always thought he has a nice voice, nothing spectacular, just "quite normal voice". That's my opinion. And after the show I'm not going to change that. Instruments were great, his voice was cool, that's it. But songs were just awesome, I loved that! Especially the older ones like Paradise, The Scientist, Princess of China (ft. Rihanna, I was sooo happy to hear that song!), Fix you, etc. Of course there were many occasions to dance when you heard Hymn for The Weekend (AMAZING, with additional techno(?)dance remixes), Adventure of a lifetime, viva la vida or sky full of stars. My rate from 1 to 5 is 4+. Great atmosphere, great people, I had fun and I definitely want to see Coldplay again! :)

Coldplay. What can I say? They are masters of the stadium experience. The fireworks and the LED wrist bands that lit up the stadium and made you feel part of the show, not just watching it.The lightshow, the lasers, the ambiance.

We didn't have the best spot to see the whole thing, but enough room to dance and see them when the got onto the runway- to enjoy the star/ leaf confetti the trade off for not being able to see the whole thing in from afar- so the highlight for me was when they came OFF the stage, passed by where I was standing on a path cut out by security guards and then sang Kingdom Come, only feet away- a song I used to play on my guitar and my son plays- who is presently in NYC- and THAT was my highlight. A beautiful song without all the flashing lights, a song close to me and my family.

They are humble and they are fabulous musicians. They can make you laugh and sing and dance and cry.Keep on doing what you do.Please.

Coldplay 'set a new standard' with tour sustainability initiatives: See what they've done

C urrently on the road hitting arenas overseas on their Music Of The Spheres World Tour , Coldplay has updated fans on the band's sustainability initiatives after pledging to reduce its carbon footprint when first setting out.

Listen to our Coldplay Infinity Station and more on the free Audacy app

Now nearing the end of their trek celebrating 2021's Music Of The Spheres , Coldplay says the band and crew have managed to produce 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous 2016/2017 stadium tour, exceeding their original target of a 50% reduction . They also revealed that after 9 million tickets sold so far, an impressive 7 million trees have already been planted as part of Coldplay’s commitment to plant a tree for every concertgoer attending the tour.

On Monday, June 3, the band shared on their social channels: "When we first announced the Music Of The Spheres Tour in 2021, we pledged to reduce our direct carbon emissions (from show production, freight, band and crew travel) by at least 50%. We’re happy to report that direct CO2e emissions from the first two years of this tour are 59% less than our previous stadium tour (2016-17), on a show-by-show comparison... We’d like to say a huge thank you to our incredible touring family and to all the brilliant people who’ve made this possible."

The statement continues, "Most of all, we’d like to thank everyone who’s come to a show and helped charge the show batteries on the power bikes and kinetic dance floors; everyone who’s arrived by foot, bike, ride share or public transport; everyone who’s come with refillable water bottles or returned their LED wristband for recycling; and everyone who’s bought a ticket, which means you’ve already planted one of 7 million trees so far. As a band, and as an industry, we’re a long way from where we need to be on this. But we’re grateful for everyone’s help so far, and we salute everyone who’s making efforts to push things in the right direction."

This data, they add, has been assessed and validated by Professor John E. Fernandez of MIT 's (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Environmental Solutions Initiative , who says: “Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry.”

Coldplay says they have surpassed their own target for cutting carbon emissions for live shows.

In 2019, frontman Chris Martin announced that the band was putting touring on hold while considering how to make their performances more environmentally friendly.

Two years later, Coldplay announced its Music of the Spheres tour - and with it a pledge to halve emissions generated by show production, freight and travel for band members and crew.

The achievement is partly down to audience participation, which has seen fans producing energy by jumping up and down on kinetic dance floors and cycling on specially modified bikes. The band also promised to plant a tree for every single ticket sold for their shows.

The range of innovative measures during the tour, which have encouraged the audience to take part in the eco-friendly initiative, have led to them producing 59% less than on their previous stadium tour in 2016-17, Coldplay said. The band said that the figures have been verified by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative.

Quoted in the statement on Coldplay's website, John E. Fernandez, director of the MIT initiative, congratulated the band on their "dedication to positive and meaningful actions," adding that they have been "setting a new standard for the entire music industry."

Coldplay thanked "all the brilliant people who've made this possible."

"Most of all, we'd like to thank everyone who's come to a show and helped charge the show batteries on the power bikes and kinetic dance floors; everyone who's arrived by foot, bike, ride share or public transport; everyone who's come with refillable water bottles or returned their LED wristband for recycling; and everyone who's bought a ticket, which means you've planted one of 7 million trees so far," the band added.

The global stadium tour kicked off in Costa Rica in March 2022 and will continue until later this year, playing to fans in venues as far afield as Finland, Greece, Australia and New Zealand.

In a more detailed breakdown of measures taken, the band said that 7 million trees have been planted, 18 shows in 2023 were powered completely by a system using recycled BMW i3 batteries and that 72% of all tour waste has been diverted from landfill.

Nevertheless, Coldplay admitted that more remains to be done, saying: "As a band, and as an industry, we're a long way from where we need to be on this. But we're grateful for everyone's help so far, and we salute everyone who's making efforts to push things in the right direction."

In an interview with CNN's Becky Anderson in 2022, Martin said: "It's not a purely charitable exercise. We are trying to prove that capitalism can be a bit more compassionate and eco-conscious."

Green touring has been around for decades, with musicians including Neil Young and Bonnie Raitt among the pioneers. But as the effects of climate change continue to intensify, the music industry is now bringing this approach mainstream. Among those who have taken measures to make their performances are more eco-friendly are Billie Eilish and Maroon 5.

Coldplay says they've beaten their emissions target for 'Music of the Spheres' world tour

Coldplay says they've beaten their emissions target for 'Music of the Spheres' world tour

Coldplay has beaten its emissions target for their "Music of the Spheres" World tour.

On social media, the band proudly shared the great green news, saying "the first two years of this tour is 59% less than our previous stadium tour on a show-by-show comparison."

In their statement, Coldplay said they initially planned to "reduce our direct carbon emissions (show production, freight, band and crew travel) by at least 50%."

The British band also made sure to include a statement from Prof. John E. Fernandez of the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, which verified the figures.

"This latest analysis of Coldplay's impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry. The data and the methods of analysis support the conclusion that substantial profess has been made to reduce emissions in touring.," Fernandez said.

Coldyplay made ambitious sustainability commitments when it announced the "Music of the Spheres" World Tour back in 2021 . Apart from pledging to cut their tour emissions by 50%, Coldplay also committed to having renewable energy power their shows, with solar panels at every concert, as well as power bikes and kinetic dance floors, where fans can charge the show battery to power the C stage at the following show.

The band also pledged to plant one tree for every ticket sold and attempted the reuse system for the compostable plant-based LED wristband it distributed to concert goers and which were to be collected at the end of each show.

When Coldplay performed In the Philippines last January, bike racks and EV chargers were made available on site, while concert goers were encouraged to bring refillable rubber bottles as water stations were scattered throughout the concourse and the field.

Power bikes and kinetic dance floors were also present in Bulacan, as well as reusable LED wristbands.

Unfortunately, the Philippines had the lowest return rate of the wristbands at a measly 87%.

A 2023 study by Plymouth University commissioned by Break Free from Plastic put forward reuse as a solution to the plastic problem , saying reuse best fits closed systems like concerts or food courts. For it to work best, the reusables must not look like collectibles, otherwise attendees will take them home.

Despite this, Coldplay is celebrating its sustainability success. Cutting carbon emissions, also referred to as greenhouse gas emissions, is among the most important things to do for the world to curb the climate crisis and meet the 1.5C target set in the Paris Agreement of 2015.

At the moment, the world has warmed 1.2C so every bit of climate action helps — including those initiated by Coldplay in making their tour less carbon intensive.

Touring — with flights, freight, and power — is carbon intensive and an important aspect of the music industry. In its statement, Coldplay acknowledged that "as a band and as an industry, we're a long way from where we need to be."

But the band is leading the music industry — as well as millions of people around the world who count themselves as Coldplay fans — with their sustainability efforts.

In their statement, the band thanked "everyone who's come to a show and helped charge the show batteries on the power bikes and kinetic dance floors; everyone whose arrived by foot, bike, ride share or public transport; everyone who's come with refillable water bottles or returned their LED wristband for recycling; and everyone who's bought a ticket, which means you've already planted one of 7 million trees so far," it said.

Coldplay played a two-night show in the Philippines last January. Jikamarie was the opening act while Lola Amour served as surprise guest on the first night.

Among those in attendance were the Philippine President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Dua Lipa kicks off ‘Radical Optimism’ tour: What songs did she play?

Dua Lipa kicked off her 'Radical Optimism' tour in Berlin, Germany — here's the full setlist.

Andrew Korpan

Radical Optimism tour singer Dua Lipa with concert background.

Dua Lipa has kicked off her “ Radical Optimism ” tour with a show in Berlin, Germany, and a 17-song setlist. The tour was highly anticipated after the May 3 release of her third album, Radical Optimism. But what songs did she perform in the setlist?

Fans hoping for Radical Optimism to be well represented may be disappointed. Dua Lipa's third album only made up five of the 17-song setlist.

“Radical Optimism” tour opening show setlist

  • “Training Session”
  • “Break My Heart”
  • “Levitating”
  • “These Walls” (live debut)
  • “Be the One”
  • “Love Again”
  • “Pretty Please”
  • “Hallucinate”
  • “New Rules”
  • “Electricity”
  • “Cold Heart” (Elton John cover)
  • “Happy for You”
  • “Don't Start Now”

Radical Optimism wasn't even the most represented album on the setlist. Dua Lipa played seven songs from Future Nostalgia. Two songs came from her self-titled debut album and a few were covers of her collaborations with others such as Elton John, Calvin Harris, and Silk City.

It's important to note that this is the first show of the “Radical Optimism” tour. There are still 20 more dates left on the itinerary. Perhaps Dua Lipa will shake it up as it continues.

The “Radical Optimism” tour is Dua Lipa's third headlining tour. She previously embarked on the “Self-Titled” and “Future Nostalgia” tours. Earlier in her career, she opened for the likes of Troye Sivan, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay.

It's a relatively short tour compared to the “Future Nostalgia” tour. Dua Lipa's previous concert tour lasted from February 2022 to November 2022 with four legs and 91 shows. Perhaps her latest is undergoing a soft launch before adding more dates.

Who is Dua Lipa?

Dua Lipa performing at the Grammys in 2024.

Dua Lipa is a Grammy-winning artist who burst onto the scene in 2015 with her debut single, “New Love.” She subsequently dropped her next single, “Be the One,” in October 2015. She would also appear on songs such as “No Lie” by Sean Paul and collaborated with Martin Garrix on “Scared to Be Lonely” in 2016 and 2017.

In 2017, she released her self-titled debut album. In her young career, she has been nominated for 10 Grammys and won three. Her most recent nomination came at the 2024 ceremony when she was up for Best Song Written for Visual Media (“Dance the Night” from Barbie). She was also up for Song of the Year for the same track.

At the sixty-first Grammys in 2019, Dua Lipa won two awards — Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording (“Electricity”). This propelled her to new heights. She returned two years later and landed six total nominations, taking home Best Pop Vocal Album for Future Nostalgia.

Radical Optimism, her third album, was released on May 3, 2024. It features hit singles “Houdini,” “Training Session,” and “Illusion.”

In addition to her solo music, Dua Lipa has ventured into acting. Not only did she record “Dance the Night” for the Barbie soundtrack, but she also appeared in the film. She played Mermaid Barbie in the film.

Additionally, she reunited with Barbie co-star John Cena in Matthew Vaughn's Argylle. She starred alongside A-listers such as Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Music Of The Spheres World Tour announced

Ahead of tomorrow’s release of Music Of The Spheres, the band have just announced an accompanying global stadium tour in 2022.

The Music Of The Spheres World Tour begins on 18 March 2022 with the band’s first ever show in Costa Rica, before travelling to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, USA, Germany, Poland, France, Belgium and the UK. The full list of shows and on sale dates is available at coldplay.com/tour now. The band have already teased that more dates will follow soon.

UK fans ordering Music Of The Spheres from the Official Coldplay UK Store at ukstore.coldplay.com (including all those who have already done so) will get first access to tickets for the UK shows*.

SUSTAINABILITY PLAN ‘A WORK IN PROGRESS’

In 2019, the band committed to making their future tours as environmentally beneficial as possible, and today’s announcement is accompanied by a comprehensive set of sustainability initiatives and environmental commitments, including one tree planted for every ticket sold and a show powered by 100% renewable energy. Full details can be seen at coldplay.com/sustainability now.

The band said:

“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far.

If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Miles Russell, 15, to play Rocket Mortgage Classic

Change Text Size

Miles Russell already has finished in the top 25 of a Korn Ferry Tour event. Now he is preparing to play on the PGA TOUR.

He’s just 15.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic announced Monday that it has given Russell a sponsor exemption into the PGA TOUR’s annual stop in Detroit. The tournament will be played June 27-30 at Detroit Golf Club.

Russell has quickly established himself as one of golf’s top up-and-coming prospects. He won both the Junior PGA Championship and Junior PLAYERS Championship in 2023, then became the youngest player to ever be named the American Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year. Tiger Woods is the only other player to win the award before turning 16.

This year, Russell became the youngest player to ever make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour and just the second player under the age of 16 to make a cut on either the PGA TOUR or Korn Ferry Tour (Tianlang Guan is the other).

Russell eventually finished T20 at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Lecom Suncoast Classic, shooting 68-66-70-66.

Russell will be among the youngest players ever to make their debut on the PGA TOUR. The record belongs to Michelle Wie West, who was granted a sponsor exemption to play in the 2004 Sony Open at the age of 14 years, 3 months and 4 days. Wie West also became the fourth woman to play a TOUR event. Guan (2013 Masters), Andy Zhang (2012 U.S. Open) and Lorens Chan (2009 Sony Open) also debuted at 14 years old. Other 15-year-olds to play TOUR events have included John Oda (2012 Sony Open), Tadd Fujikawa (2006 U.S. Open) and Bob Pasanik (1957 Canadian Open).
