Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai to Expand Ministry Amid Speculations

cg tourism minister

Raipur : Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday indicated that he would soon expand his ministry.

Mr Sai’s statement comes amid mounting speculations in the ruling BJP circles that he may go for expansion of his ministry in the first week of July.

The chief minister who returned here on Saturday from his one-day-visit to Delhi told the waiting media persons at the Raipur airport that he would make an announcement of expansion of his ministry before it takes place.

“The expansion of the ministry will be done soon. The ministry will be expanded at the right time. The announcement on expansion of the ministry will be made in advance”, he said.

Mr Sai’s recent meeting with Chhattisgarh governor Biswabhusan Harichandan at Raj Bhavan here had sparked rumours about imminent expansion of his ministry.

The speculations have mounted further after state education minister Brij Mohan Agrawal resigned from the Assembly following his election to the Lok Sabha.

“There was a vacant cabinet berth in the state ministry earlier. Another cabinet berth fell vacant when Mr Agrawal was elected to the LS. A cabinet expansion is on cards to fill at least these two vacant cabinet berths”, state BJP general secretary Sachidanand Upasana has earlier said.

A senior BJP functionary indicated that Mr Sai may go for expansion of his ministry in the first week of July.

Sources said that the prospective ministers in the expanded cabinet have been finalised during Mr Sai’s Friday’s visit to Delhi.

Mr Sai had met senior BJP leaders such as B L Santoshi, Shiv Prakash and Ajey Jamval during his visit to Delhi.

Sources said that the prospective ministers’ names were reportedly discussed and finalised in the meeting.

Chhattisgarh CM writes to Union tourism minister for development of Ram Van Gaman circuit

Bhupesh baghel wrote to patel on thursday that chhattisgarh’s tourism department has selected nine such sites and prepared a concept plan at a cost of ₹137.45 crore for developing the ram van gaman circuit..

Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has urged Union minister of state for tourism (independent charge) Prahlad Patel to grant approval to the state’s plan to develop a circuit along the places Lord Ram visited during his exile under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

Baghel said that under the Centre’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme there is a provision to develop world-class infrastructure for the convenience of tourists in selected projects of tourism.(HT photo)

Bhupesh Baghel wrote to Patel on Thursday that Chhattisgarh’s tourism department has selected nine such sites and prepared a concept plan at a cost of ₹ 137.45 crore for developing the Ram Van Gaman circuit.

Baghel said that under the Centre’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme there is a provision to develop world-class infrastructure for the convenience of tourists in selected projects of tourism.

He said the Chhattisgarh government is working on plans to develop the Ram Van Gaman Path with an aim to providing information to tourists as well as people of the country and the state about the Ram Van Gaman Marg and sites.

It also wants to provide the best of facilities to the tourists during their visit to these historical sites, he said.

The chief minister said the history of Chhattisgarh is ancient as well as evident. He said Chhattisgarh was known as Dakshin Kosala and Dandakaranya in ancient times. And, in Valmiki’s Ramayana, Lord Ram’s journey during exile in Dandakaranya has been mentioned.

According to information received from researchers, research articles and books, Lord Ram spent more than 10 years out of the 14 years of his exile in Chhattisgarh and the state’s folk songs also talk about it, he said.

Baghel said Lord Ram came to Chhattisgarh from north India after spending ‘Chamasa’ at various places and then went to south India. Hence, Chhattisgarh is also called ‘Dakshin Path’.

“Lord Ram entered Chhattisgarh from a place called Sitamarhi Harchaika via the Gawai River in Koriya district and went to south India from Ramaram in Sukma district. During the entire route, he visited 75 sites,” Baghel stated.

The chief minister said nine sites have been selected in the first phase for the purpose of developing Ram Van Gaman tourism circuit in Chhattisgarh.

These sites include Sitamarhi-Harchaika (Koriya), Ramgarh (Ambikapur), Shivrinarayan (Janjgir-Champa), Turturiya (Baloda Bazar), Chandkhuri (Raipur), Rajim (Gariaband), Sihawa-Saptarishi Ashram (Dhamtari), Jagdalpur (Bastar) and Ramaram (Sukma).

For the Ram Van Gaman tourism circuit, the state government had made a provision of ₹ 5 crore last year (2019-20) and ₹ 10 crore this year (2020-21) in the budget.

Chitrakoot waterfalls in Bastar region.

  • The cultural and tribal treasures of Chhattisgarh were unravelled in a webinar organised by the Tourism Ministry.

Viewers witnessed Chhattisgarh’s hidden tourism wealth, its unique culture, tribal heritage and festivals, unveiled during a webinar organised by the Tourism Ministry aimed at showcasing India’s rich diversity.

The Dekho Apna Desh webinar series revealed the “Hidden Treasures Of Chhatisgarh'' to a wider audience as part of the Centre's Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme.

Moderated by Rupinder Brar, Additional Director General at the ministry, the session highlighted many key facts of the state to the participants.

While the state's Tourism and Culture Secretary P Anbalagan gave his introductory remarks, the session was presented by Jaspreet Singh Bhatia, founder, Icecubes Holidays, Jeet Singh Arya, founder, Unexplored Bastar, and Thommen Jose, author and blogger.

The three presenters highlighted the unexplored destinations and unique cultural and heritage wealth of Chhattisgarh.

Bhatia set the tone by drawing the attention of the viewers to some of the key facts of the state and its immense tourism potential.

Chhattisgarh, carved out of Madhya Pradesh came into existence on 1 November 2000 and is the ninth largest state in India. The central eastern state of India borders seven states, has 44 per cent of land covered by forest and 34 per cent of tribal population.

With three national parks, 11 wildlife sanctuaries and one biosphere reserve, it is one of India’s greenest states and well connected with the rest of the country by air, rail and road network.

Some of the famous waterfalls of the country are in Chhattisgarh, for instance, Chitrakoot, Amritdhara, Pawai, Machli etc.

The state is also blessed with three shaktipeeths — Champaranya, Rajim and Sheorinarayan.

Wrought iron, bell metal and terracotta are famous handicrafts of Chhattisgarh.

Arya took the audience on a virtual tour of the Bastar region. It is one of the unexplored destinations located in southern part of Chhattisgarh. The region has spectacular scenic views, roads and hidden waterfalls. It has more than 15 waterfalls. Kutumsar Caves, which are the largest series of caves after Meghalaya, are in Chhattisgarh.

Bastar Dussehra, the world’s longest festival that is celebrated for 75 days has a different story related to goddess Dhanteswari.

Gonds, Madiya, Muriayas are some of the tribes making up Bastar’s indigenous tribal population.

Handicrafts history dates back to the Harappan civilisation; the technique used is lost wax. The third largest Ganesha statue in the world, which is made of a single sand stone, and cave paintings dating back to 12,000 years are also in the Bastar region.

Jose presented some lesser-known places of tourist interest and experiences that Chhattisgargh offers, which include Karkabhat, Dipadih, Ghotul and Sonabai.

While Karkabhat is a megalithic burial site generally ignored by tourists, studies conducted in the area have identified three types of menhirs – conical, pointed obliquely and bifurcated like a fish tail.

Dipadih is a temple complex dating back to the seventh century, and is probably the best kept archaeological secret of Chhattisgarh. Excavated stone pillars have been erected along the path next to the entrance on which mythological creatures are exhibited.

Ghotul, an ancient tribal system of education, and along with the campus, has its own system of hierarchies.

Sonabai, famous for bas relief ornamentation works of Chhattisgarh, has its roots in the works of Sonabai, who made little toys for her son Daroga Ram to lull him to sleep.

Cock fighting, Chhattisgarh's famous tribal game, also came alive on the digital platform for the stakeholders of the tourism industry.

Concluding the webinar session, Brar informed the ministry about releasing the operational recommendations for various hospitality and travel trade sectors namely hotels, restaurants, homestay/farmstay and tourism service providers.

The National e-Governance Division created by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has been playing a pivotal role in supporting the ministry in conducting the Dekho Apna Desh webinars by providing technical assistance directly with a professional team, thereby ensuring effective citizen engagement and communication with all stakeholders using the digital experience platform.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

cg tourism minister

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
