Strictly The Professionals kicks off UK tour in Oxford

celebrities strictly tour 2023

The Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers have begun their sparkling tour of the UK.

Reigning champion Vito Coppola, who lifted the glitterball trophy in December with actress Ellie Leach, was among the 12 dancers who kicked off the first night of the 37-date tour at the New Theatre in Oxford on Wednesday evening.

Jowita Przystal, who won Strictly in 2022 with wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin, also performed alongside longest serving Strictly professional Karen Hauer and three-time Strictly finalist Gorka Marquez.

Other performers from the BBC’s flagship show for the Strictly The Professionals tour included Dianne Buswell , Nikita Kuzmin, Neil Jones, Luba Mushtuk, Graziano Di Prima, Carlos Gu, Michelle Tsiakkas and Nancy Xu.

The 12-strong ensemble will perform their ballroom and Latin routines, bringing the glamour from the hit TV show to live stages across the UK including Birmingham, Salford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Swansea.

In May, the dancers will perform at the London Palladium , while the show will come to a close at the Globe Theatre in Stockton-on-Tees.

Jones said his girlfriend Chyna Mills will bring their six-month-old daughter Havana to spend time with him if he is performing one show a day instead of two.

While veteran Marquez said his girlfriend and former Strictly star Gemma Atkinson will also bring their four-year-old daughter Mia to watch him perform in London or Manchester because “she loves to see Daddy dance”.

He said their son Thiago, born last July, is too young “to understand the passage of time” while he is away from home on the Strictly tour or as a judge on the Spanish version of Strictly.

Fellow Strictly veteran Hauer, who has been with the show since 2012, said the professional tour “has a very special place in my heart”.

Hauer, 42, said her and 41-year-old Jones are “conscious of keeping up with all the younger dancers” so she trains every day to maintain her stamina.

“Time and again, though, any exhaustion you might feel simply evaporates when you’re in front of an audience. Nothing is more exciting,” she said.

Meanwhile, it is the second professional tour for reigning champion Coppola, who said it was “special” that dancers from all around the world are united in their passion for dance as “brothers and sisters”.

Ukrainian-born Kuzmin, who recently placed second on Celebrity Big Brother, described last year as “my favourite tour ever”.

“This year is going to be even bigger and better. We’ll have lots of personal sides to the show and special reminders for the people who watched the last season of Strictly,” he teased.

Buswell said she will spend her day-off from the tour on May 6 celebrating her 35th birthday with her boyfriend Joe Sugg – whom she met on the BBC show.

Jason Gilkison, who has directed the tour, said: “The 2023 tour was spectacular, we really pushed the boundaries with the choreography and as a result the show was phenomenal.

“We want to push that even further for 2024, with more dancers than ever before.

“Audiences will be blown away by the skills of our pros, as individuals and as a breathtaking ensemble. The entertainment factor will be off the scale – I can’t wait.”

Strictly The Professionals 2024 will be touring the UK until June 1 and tickets and venues can be found at StrictlyTheProfessionals.com.

Meet the famous faces heading into the jungle for I’m A Celebrity… 2023

The new series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will launch on Sunday evening with a host of famous faces.

With the line-up including a famous politician, a food critic, soap stars and the sister of an American pop superstar, we take a look at who will be setting up camp and facing the notorious bush tucker trials on the ITV reality show.

Nigel Farage

Former UK Independence Party (Ukip) leader Nigel Farage will be stranded in the middle of the Australian outback when I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here gets underway.

The 59-year-old said he has been “demonised over the years” and wants to “show people I am not nasty”.

The GB News star added: “Given millions hate me, I do expect people will vote for me to do trials!”

Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn Spears is the sister of pop superstar Britney and is known for her roles in TV series Zoey 101 and Sweet Magnolias.

The 32-year-old actress, who faces a skydive when she enters the jungle, said that the show will be a “nice way for people to see the real me”.

She added: “I think my best quality is the fact that it takes a lot to hurt my feelings. Unless you are my children or my immediate family, nothing is going to hurt me.”

Sam Thompson

Reality star and radio presenter Sam Thompson, who faces a skyscraper challenge before entering the jungle, said taking part in the show “feels like a dream”.

The 31-year-old said that his partner Zara McDermott , who took part in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing was “proud” of him for going on the show.

“We haven’t chatted too much about it (I’m A Celebrity) in the run-up as she has been doing Strictly and I haven’t wanted to make it about me”, he said.

Josie Gibson

This Morning host Josie Gibson, who will face a challenge in the outback during Sunday’s episode alongside Farage, said that her biggest phobia is insects.

The 38-year-old added: “I also don’t like spiders and I freeze normally when I see one.

“My family thinks I am mad doing the programme too as they know what I’m like with creepy crawlies!”

Fred Sirieix

TV presenter and First Dates star Fred Sirieix is set to face a skyscraper challenge in the series’ first episode.

Speaking on how he has readied himself for the show, the 51-year-old said: “I have been training harder than I have trained in the last three or four years.

“I go to the gym, I go to boxing, I train like a machine – that’s my way to cope with doing I’m A Celebrity.”

YouTuber Nella Rose is to face the outback alongside Gibson and Farage and said that she is scared of everything from red ants to ostriches.

The 26-year-old added: “I am terrified but I’m trying to think of the bigger picture.

“In this life, you have to face up to your fears. Yes, I might scream the whole time but I am going to think about feeding human beings and I am going to try my best.”

Food critic Grace Dent will face a skyscraper challenge in the series’ first episode.

Speaking on whether she will cook up a storm in camp, the 50-year-old said: “I am a practical cook but it is not cooking as we know it in the jungle.

“What makes food is herbs and spices and I am not going to have any ingredients.”

Marvin Humes

TV presenter and JLS singer Marvin Humes, who has a phobia of heights, is set to face a skydive before he enters camp.

The 38-year-old has just finished a tour with JLS and said: “Heights do terrify me as do the snakes, the rats and the food situation.

“We’ve been burning 3,000 calories rehearsing for our tour and it’s going to be super challenging.”

Danielle Harold

Former EastEnders star Danielle Harold is set to face a skyscraper challenge, alongside Thompson, Dent and Sirieix in the series’ first episode and said that one of her biggest fears is rats.

Speaking on her role in the camp the 31-year-old said: “I am a little bit ditzy but I am definitely not the dumb blonde of, ‘Oh look she won’t want to get involved or do that’.

“In fact, that is the opposite to me. I want to do the different challenges and I can’t wait to do the Deals on Wheels challenge!”

Nick Pickard

Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard will be challenged to skydive out of a plane, alongside Humes and Spears in Sunday’s episode.

Speaking about the programme the 48-year-old said: “I am obviously not looking forward to eating kangaroo balls but at the same time, I am looking forward to the trials – that’s the fun part of doing this show.”

Newly-single Anita Rani's 'unchartered territory' following end of 14-year marriage

The aldi's next big thing presenter reportedly ended her marriage in september 2023.

Nichola Murphy

Anita Rani , 46, is adjusting to single life after splitting from her husband of 14 years , Bhupi Reha.

Since announcing she was ending her marriage in September 2023, the Countryfile presenter has moved into her former London flat and is juggling a packed work schedule including Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and her debut novel, Baby Does A Runner.

With so much change, Anita admitted she is in "uncharted territory" in her new chapter of life.

'Bonkers' wedding

anita rani and husband

Anita and her tech entrepreneur ex-husband met through mutual friends at a London warehouse party. They quickly bonded over their shared love of music and exchanged vows six months later.

DON'T MISS:

"Music is a huge part of my life – I spent a lot of time in my bedroom as a child listening to the radio and making mix tapes," she told MailOnline. "I have a pair of DJ turntables and when I met Bhupi he had a set too, so we bonded."

They tied the knot in a three-day Indian wedding in 2008 which Anita described as "bonkers."

anita rani

Strictly Come Dancing star Anita  said : "We had 450 of our nearest and dearest in Bradford, which is relatively small for a Punjabi wedding."

Secret split

Despite Anita sharing occasional loved-up photos with Bhupi and gushing about his supportive nature, including after her miscarriage in 2018, all was not well behind closed doors.

In September 2023,  rumours began circling that the Aldi's Next Big Thing presenter and her husband had parted ways, with their busy work schedules said to be a contributing factor.

Anita Rani looking over her shoulder in a backless dress

Anita made her first comments about their split in November, admitting it was "liberating" to have the news made public. “It’s liberating that people know that I’m single now. Not everything works out. Things come to their natural conclusion. That is absolutely fine,” she told The Sun.

Looking optimistically at her future, she said she felt "sexier" than ever and revealed she predicted she would be "blossoming" in her 40s.

"There’s no shame attached to being single. And living your best life in your 40s. I want all women to know that I’m on the other side now."There is light, and the light is good! I’m single. I’m child-free, I’m in my mid-40s and I have never felt better, sexier, more powerful or more excited about the future."

Single life

Anita once again addressed her single life in an interview with Good Housekeeping, admitting she "loves" her new blank slate.

"I feel like I’ve stepped into a place that I never, ever expected myself to be in. I’m in uncharted territory – I’m a single, Asian woman with no children, and do you know what? I love it. I’ve sort of got a blank slate in front of me, and that feels really good," she said.

While Anita didn't comment on pursuing any new relationships, she did reveal she was embracing her new living situation in her London flat which she purchased 20 years ago.

"I have lovely cream drapes and white floorboards. My bedroom is dusky pink and I’ve turned my spare room into a dressing room. Just talking about it makes me happy. It’s my little sanctuary and it feels really important to have that," Anita explained.

Madonna knows how to close out a tour!

On Saturday, the GRAMMY-winning musician, 65, made history as she broke the record for the largest audience for a standalone concert by any artist during the final night of her The Celebration Tour at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Madonna's free show was attended by 1.6 million fans. The record was previously held by The Rolling Stones when they performed at the venue in 2006 for a then record-setting 1.5 million fans.

Madonna's Celebration Tour show included performances of some of her biggest hits, including "Just Like A Prayer," "Nothing Really Matters," and "Music." The performance marked Madonna's first show in Brazil since 2012.

The songstress had a special hometown guest during the "Vogue" portion of the show as Anitta surprised the audience. For the segment, the "Bellakeo" singer joined Madonna as a judge for the ball and held up a "10" sign for the dancers.

Following the show, Madonna took to Instagram to share a video, where she celebrates Brazil's culture by waving the flag on stage.

"Blame it on Rio 🇧🇷 Thank You Brazil!! 🔥🇧🇷🔥🇧🇷 🔥 @pabllovittar @itau @tvglobo #musicmakesthepeoplecometogether," she wrote.

Ahead of the moment, Anitta -- who just released her latest album,  Funk Generation -- told ET she would be missing the Met Gala because she was showing up for Madonna.

"Not this year," she told ET when asked if was attending the Met Gala. "I'm gonna be in Brazil with Madonna."

Madonna kicked off her Celebration Tour in October 2023 at London's O2 Arena. The North American leg of the tour began in December 2023, and ran with a series of special guests including Andy Cohen , Kelly Ripa , Cardi B , Pamela Anderson and Julia Garner .

The tour was delayed as the singer recovered from a near-fatal viral infection. Madonna got emotional during night one of the show as she reflected on the health scare .

"It's been a crazy year for me. I didn't think I was going to make it, neither did my doctors. That's why I woke up with all of my children sitting around me," Madonna revealed to a captivated audience at the time.
