Is Carnival cruise line offering military discounts on cruises in 2024 and beyond? YES! And so do we!

Carnival often offers a farecode that can only be used to book military personnel. It’s called the ‘Exclusive Military Early Saver Offer’ and the rate code is PME.

This farecode is offered on almost every sailing, and it offers a slightly lower price than any other farecode.

And when I say slightly, I do mean slightly – like, only $4 less per person!

Carnival always offers another ‘early saver’ farecode that is just a tiny bit more, but usually includes a reduced deposit offer or onboard credit offer.

So almost always, we advise people that Carnival’s military discount is actually not their best option.

When you call us to book, we’ll look at all that for you and choose the farecode which helps you get the biggest discount.

Then we’ll apply our own military discount to every Carnival cruise, so you’ll pay less than Carnival’s lowest rate.

Have questions about military discounts on Carnival cruises?

Click on a button below to get there quickly!

Book with us to get a DOUBLE Military DISCOUNT on your Carnival cruise

Carnival offers military and Veteran discounts on more of their cruises than any of the other cruise lines.

If Carnival is offering their own military rate, you will get that rate for as many cabins as they allow, plus our discounts and benefits – so you’ll get a DOUBLE DISCOUNT on your cruise.

Bring the whole family for a Group Cruise on Carnival !

How much is the military discount on Carnival?

Carnival’s military discount used to be $25 to $250 per person  less than the rate available to civilians.

That is no longer the case. As of late 2022, Carnival’s military discount is only $5 to $10 less than the lowest rates available to everyone else.

Our Carnival military discount is a percentage off of that amount and is applied on top of Carnival’s military discount. So our rate is ALWAYS lower than Carnival’s lowest rate.

The total value of the Carnival military can be around $20 to $200 per person.  However, the total discount depends on the price of the cruise.  So it could be more or less than that.

Today’s Special Deals on Carnival Cruise Line include:

Any reduced deposit, onboard credit, or upgrade Carnival is offering will automatically be included when you book any Carnival cruise on our website – (if those freebies are included in the lowest rate available from Carnival). Sometimes those things are only offered on higher-priced farecodes , so they’re not really free.

  • Reduced Military, Senior, Resident, and past passenger rates on select sailings.
  • There is almost always a reduced deposit promotion offered if you book using the Early Saver Farecode.
  •  New group deal!   1 free berth for every 12 passengers booked! Click here to see all group details on Carnival.

How many cabins can qualify for Carnival’s military and Veteran discount rate?

Carnival only allows their discounted military rate to be applied to the single cruise cabin which contains the military member or veteran.

Twice a year (usually doing May and November) they offer a promotion that allows 2 additional cabins at the military rate.  We’ll announce it as soon as it happens.  So stay tuned.

Our online discount will apply to as many cabins as you like including civilian friends and family!

Who qualifies for Carnival’s military discount?

The Military promotion is available to active and retired United States Military and Canadian National Defense members and US Veterans with a DD214.

Military Personnel and Veterans are permitted to book one cabin as long as he/she is traveling in the cabin.

Spouses of active Military personnel called to active duty or stationed overseas will be eligible to book one cabin as long as the eligible spouse is occupying this cabin.

Spouses include Same Gender Union Partner (in states/provinces where legal).

  • U.S Coast Guard Personnel (U.S)
  • National Guard (U.S): Active Member / Retired Member / Honorably Discharged Member

Considering a group cruise on Carnival in 2024 or 2025?

Military and Veterans who book a Carnival group cruise with Military Cruise Deals will get the best possible rate and most possible perks on ALL cabins booked in their group.

This is one of the reasons that Military Cruise Deals and Carnival are so affordable together, and such a great option for military and Veteran families.

Carnival Cruise Military And Veteran Discounts 2021 | Military Cruise Deals

What is the minimum number of cabins and people required to make the military and veteran groups on Carnival?

8 cabins with a minimum of 16 passengers.

What is the deposit schedule for military and veteran groups on Carnival? When is money due and how much?

$25 per person within 60 days of holding cabins.

The full deposit of $250 per person is due within 6 months of first deposit, and is subject to lesser time depending on departure date.

The final payment is due at the normal final payment time: 2-5 day cruise 60 days before sailing, 6-9 day cruise: 75 days before sailing.

The group rate fare code available tends to be close in price to the Early Saver fare code, but unlike the Early Saver, it is fully refundable up to final payment.

If rates go up, the group rate stays the same. VIFP Casino offers are not combinable with groups. All other promos are combinable with groups (but not one another) including military.

The Final payment is due at the normal final payment time: 2-5 day cruise 60 days before sailing, 6-9 day cruise: 75 days before sailing.

What are the benefits offered to military and veteran’s groups on Carnival?

A. Fun Points

B. Tour Conductor credit(s)

C. Our military discount

Carnival Cruise Military And Veteran Discounts 2021 | Military Cruise Deals

A. All About Fun Points for Groups on Carnival

The benefits or perks offered on Carnival group cruises are allocated based on something Carnival calls ‘fun points’, also known as ‘group amenity points’.

The amount of ‘fun points’ that your group cabins are entitled to depend on the cruise selected and the number of passengers in the group. The amount will be 0 to 4.

Once you have selected a specific sailing, and know what type of cabins your group wants, and how many in your group – we’ll look into Carnival’s system to see how many ‘fun points’ you’ll get.

These fun amenity points can be used to get onboard credit for each cabin in the group or various other gifts*.

Using the amenity points, your group may then choose ONE option:

a. either the onboard credit amount that applies for your sailing,

b. one of the other gift choices, *

Whatever you select then applies to all cabins in the group.

Here’s are some graphs, provided by Carnival, which shows what your fun points can get for you, and how many fun point each gift costs, based on the length of the sailing.

Whatever you do, don’t show this to every member of your group, and ask them which they would prefer!!

Because everyone in the group has to have the same fun point benefit – they won’t all get their preference if they prefer different things. A leader of the group has to choose for everyone! Please…take our advice on this.

Carnival Cruise Military And Veteran Discounts 2021 | Military Cruise Deals

B. The Tour Conductor Credit(s) applied to Carnival Group Cruises

Each group will get one tour conductor credit per 8 cabins.

This tour conductor credit can be used to give 1 passenger a FREE cruise fare!

This credit begins applying once all 8 are booked and the amount of the tour conductor credit is based on average net-fare code of the 8 cabins.

This means, if most of the cabins booked are inside cabins, the amount of the tour conductor credit will be one inside cruise fare.

They will still have to pay taxes and port charges though.

You could choose to distribute the amount of this free cruise fare to all passengers in the group, thus lowering everyone’s fare by a small amount.

But we recommend this credit be allocated to the person in your group who’s going through the most trouble to organize the group. Because, honestly folks, organizing a group takes a lot of work. Some groups especially are like herds of feral cats…getting them all going in the same direction is impossible.

In addition to all the group benefits provided by Carnival, any groups booked with Military Cruise Deals will receive an additional discount off the cruise fare. Thus, everyone in your group will PAY LESS than if they had booked directly with Carnival.

Want a group shore excursion exclusively for members of your group?

If your group has more than 50 guests, Carnival will customize group shore excursions for you as well.

It must be coordinated through the group event planning department.

Fill out the form below to get the ball rolling for your group!

Most cruise lines only allow you to book a maximum of four people in a cabin. If you have more people traveling, you will most likely need multiple cabins. The way to use our website would be to enter the number of people you would like to have in your first cabin ONLY to check rates and availability. You can continue the process on our website to book your first cabin and then start again to book your next cabin. Or email us at [email protected] to assist you further.

We’ll also walk you through the process of verifying your military eligibility and booking a cruise with a military discount. Additionally, we’ll share some bonus tips on how to save even more on Carnival Cruises.

So, if you’re ready to set sail and embark on an unforgettable adventure while enjoying significant savings, read on to discover how to take advantage of military discounts on Carnival Cruise.

Understanding Military Discounts

Military discounts are special offers and benefits provided by companies to active duty military personnel, veterans, and their families as a gesture of appreciation for their service and sacrifice. These discounts can be found in various industries, including travel and hospitality. Cruises, in particular, often provide exclusive discounts and perks for military members.

While the specific discounts may vary depending on the cruise line and individual promotions, military discounts generally offer a percentage off the cruise fare or special amenities included in the package. These discounts can help military personnel and their families save a significant amount of money when planning their dream vacation.

It’s important to note that military discounts are typically available to active duty service members, including members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard. Additionally, most cruise lines extend these discounts to veterans and sometimes even to military dependents, such as spouses and children.

Furthermore, military discounts are often subject to certain eligibility requirements and verification processes to ensure that only qualified individuals can take advantage of these benefits. These requirements may include providing proof of military service, such as a valid military ID card, DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), or other documentation.

Now that we have a better understanding of military discounts, let’s delve into Carnival Cruise Line’s military discount policy and explore how you can benefit from these exclusive offers.

Carnival Cruise Military Discount Policy

Carnival Cruise Line is a prominent cruise company known for its fun-filled and exciting voyages. They value and appreciate the service of military personnel and offer special discounts to show their gratitude.

Under Carnival Cruise Line’s military discount policy, eligible military personnel can receive discounted rates on select cruises. The discounts typically apply to the cruise fare and may vary depending on the specific sailing and cabin category.

To qualify for Carnival Cruise’s military discount, you must meet certain criteria. The discount is available to members of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, and reserves. In addition, Carnival Cruise Line extends these benefits to retired military personnel and veterans from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

When booking a cruise with a military discount, it’s important to note that the discount is usually applicable to the individual who has served or is serving in the military. However, some promotions may allow the military discount to be extended to family members and friends who are traveling in the same stateroom.

To learn more about Carnival Cruise Line’s military discount policy and to find out the specific discounts available for your desired sailing, it’s best to visit their official website or contact their customer service directly. They will provide you with detailed information on the discounts, eligibility requirements, and any additional documentation that may be needed to secure your military discount.

Now that you understand Carnival Cruise Line’s military discount policy, let’s move on to the process of verifying your military eligibility.

How to Verify Military Eligibility

Verifying your military eligibility is a crucial step in securing a military discount on Carnival Cruise or any other cruise line. To ensure that the discounts are limited to qualified individuals, Carnival Cruise Line requires proper documentation to confirm your military service.

To verify your military eligibility, you will need to provide the necessary documents, depending on your military affiliation. Here are some common forms of verification:

  • Military ID Card: Active duty, reserve, and National Guard members typically possess a valid military ID card. This card serves as proof of your military service and can be used to verify your eligibility for military discounts.
  • DD Form 214: If you are a veteran, you will need to present your DD Form 214, also known as the Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. This document confirms your honorable discharge from the military.
  • Canadian Military ID: Canadian military members can provide their Canadian Forces Identification Card to verify their military service.
  • United Kingdom Military ID: For military personnel from the United Kingdom, a valid Defense Privilege Card (DPC) or Armed Forces Recognition ID will be required for verification.

It’s important to note that the specific documentation required may vary based on the cruise line’s policies and the type of military discount you are seeking. It’s always best to consult Carnival Cruise Line’s official website or contact their customer service for the most up-to-date information regarding the verification process.

Once you have gathered the necessary documents, you can provide them during the booking process. Some cruise lines may require you to submit the documentation online, while others may ask for them to be presented in person at the time of embarkation. Be sure to follow the instructions provided by Carnival Cruise Line to ensure a smooth verification process.

Now that you understand how to verify your military eligibility, let’s move on to the process of booking a Carnival Cruise with a military discount.

Booking a Carnival Cruise with a Military Discount

Booking a Carnival Cruise with a military discount is a straightforward process that requires a few simple steps. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you secure your military discount:

  • Research Cruise Options: Start by exploring the various itineraries and ships offered by Carnival Cruise Line. Take into consideration your preferred destination, travel dates, and budget.
  • Check for Military Discounts: Once you have identified your desired cruise, visit Carnival Cruise Line’s website or contact their customer service to check for available military discounts. They will provide you with information on the discounts, including any restrictions or blackout dates.
  • Verify Military Eligibility: As mentioned earlier, ensure that you have the necessary documentation to verify your military eligibility. This may include a military ID card, DD Form 214, or other valid identification based on your military affiliation.
  • Book Online or Call Customer Service: You can choose to book your Carnival Cruise with a military discount online through their website or by calling their customer service. If booking online, navigate to the military discount section and follow the prompts. If calling, provide the required information, including your military status and desired cruise details.
  • Submit Required Documentation: During the booking process, you may be asked to submit your verification documents online or provide them in person at a later stage. Follow the instructions provided by Carnival Cruise Line to ensure a smooth booking process.
  • Review and Confirm: Before finalizing your booking, review the details of your reservation, including the cabin category, itinerary, and any additional amenities included in the military discount. Once you are satisfied, proceed to confirm your reservation.
  • Pay and Prepare for the Cruise: Make the required payment to secure your Carnival Cruise booking with the military discount. Start preparing for your cruise by arranging transportation to the port, packing essentials, and planning any pre or post-cruise activities.

Following these steps will help you successfully book a Carnival Cruise with a military discount. Remember to double-check the specific terms and conditions of the military discount, as they may vary depending on the promotion and sailing.

Now that you know how to book a Carnival Cruise with a military discount, let’s explore some additional tips for saving even more on your cruise vacation.

Additional Tips for Saving on Carnival Cruises

While securing a military discount is an excellent way to save on your Carnival Cruise, there are additional tips that can help you maximize your savings. Here are some valuable tips to consider:

  • Stay Flexible with Travel Dates: By having flexibility with your travel dates, you can take advantage of special promotions, discounted fares, and last-minute deals. Be open to sailing during off-peak seasons or on less popular departure dates to potentially secure even better prices.
  • Monitor Carnival Cruise Line’s Promotions: Keep a close eye on Carnival Cruise Line’s promotions and deals. They frequently offer discounted rates on specific sailings or provide onboard credit, complimentary upgrades, or other perks. Subscribing to their newsletter or following their social media accounts can help you stay informed about these promotions.
  • Consider Different Cabin Categories: Carnival Cruise Line offers a range of cabin categories, from interior staterooms to luxurious suites. While upgrading to higher-tier cabins may come with an additional cost, sometimes the price difference between cabins can be smaller than expected. Explore all available options to find the best value for your budget.
  • Book Early or Last Minute: Carnival Cruise Line often offers early booking discounts, allowing you to secure your preferred cruise at a lower rate. On the other hand, they may also have last-minute deals for unsold cabins closer to the sailing date. Assess your travel preferences to determine which option suits you best.
  • Take Advantage of Onboard Activities: Carnival Cruise Line is known for its wide range of onboard activities and entertainment options. Many of these activities are included in the cruise fare, allowing you to enjoy fun experiences without additional expenses. Participate in trivia games, dance classes, comedy shows, and other free activities to make the most of your cruise without spending extra.
  • Plan Excursions Strategically: While it can be tempting to book multiple excursions at each port of call, it can quickly add up in terms of cost. Research each destination and select excursions that truly interest you. Alternatively, consider exploring the port cities independently or taking advantage of free or low-cost activities.
  • Sign Up for Carnival’s Loyalty Program: Carnival Cruise Line offers a loyalty program called “VIFP Club” (Very Important Fun Person). By signing up for this program, you can earn points for every cruise you take with Carnival. Accumulating points can lead to valuable perks and benefits, including exclusive discounts, priority boarding, and onboard credits.

By implementing these tips, you can save even more on your Carnival Cruise and make the most of your vacation experience.

Now that you are armed with these valuable tips, you are ready to embark on a memorable journey with Carnival Cruise Line while enjoying significant savings.

Booking a Military Rate on Carnival Cruises

Gather necessary military identification and documents.

Before booking a military rate on Carnival Cruises, it’s important to gather the necessary military identification and documents. This typically includes a valid military ID card or proof of service, such as a DD-214 form for veterans. Ensure that the identification and documents are up-to-date and meet the requirements specified by Carnival Cruises. Having these documents readily available will make the booking process smoother and faster.

Select the desired cruise

Once you have your military identification and documents in order, it’s time to select the desired cruise for your vacation. Carnival Cruises offers a wide range of cruise options, including various destinations, durations, and departure ports. Consider factors such as preferred travel dates, itinerary, and onboard amenities when making your selection. Keep in mind that certain cruises may have limited availability for military rates, so it’s advisable to have a few options in mind.

Check for availability of military rates

After choosing your preferred cruise, it’s important to check for the availability of military rates. As mentioned earlier, military rates can vary depending on the cruise and departure date. Some cruises may have limited cabins available at the discounted rate, so it’s advisable to book as early as possible to secure your spot. Some online travel agencies or cruise booking platforms may offer competitive rates or exclusive deals for military members. It’s important to compare prices and check for any additional fees or restrictions before making a final decision. Remember to verify that the booking website is reputable and trustworthy before providing any personal or payment information.

Understanding Military Rate Benefits and Limitations

Potential cost savings.

One of the primary benefits of booking a military rate on Carnival Cruises is the potential for substantial cost savings. The discounted military rates allow military members and their families to enjoy all the amenities and experiences of a Carnival cruise at a more affordable price. With these savings, you may be able to extend your vacation, upgrade your cabin, or indulge in additional onboard activities.

Complimentary upgrades and perks

In addition to cost savings, military rates on Carnival Cruises often come with complimentary upgrades and perks. These upgrades can include cabin category upgrades, onboard credits, or specialty dining packages. While not guaranteed, these additional benefits are offered as a gesture of appreciation for military service. Taking advantage of these perks can enhance your cruise experience and make it even more enjoyable.

Limitations on cabin selection

It’s important to note that military rates on Carnival Cruises may have limitations on cabin selection. While the discounted rates are available across various cabin categories, the availability of specific cabins may be limited. This means that certain cabin types or locations may not be available at the military rate, especially during peak travel periods. It’s advisable to remain flexible with your cabin preferences to increase the chances of securing a military rate.

Availability restrictions

Military rates on Carnival Cruises may also be subject to availability restrictions. As mentioned earlier, these rates may have limited quantities and can sell out quickly, especially for popular cruises. It’s recommended to book your cruise as early as possible to ensure availability. Keep in mind that military rates are typically available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s important to plan and book in advance for the best chance of securing these special rates.

Making the Most of Military Rate Benefits

Research onboard amenities and activities.

To make the most of your military rate benefits on Carnival Cruises, take the time to research the onboard amenities and activities available. Participating in these events allows you to enjoy a sense of camaraderie and recognition throughout your cruise experience.

Take advantage of military-supportive policies

Carnival Cruises has a range of military-supportive policies in place to accommodate the unique needs of military members and their families. These policies may include flexible cancellation or rebooking options, discounts on select onboard services, or assistance with any necessary paperwork or documentation. Familiarize yourself with these policies and utilize them to ensure a smooth and stress-free cruise experience.

Explore military-themed excursions

Many cruise destinations offer military-themed excursions that allow you to dive deeper into the military history and culture of the location. Research the ports of call on your cruise itinerary and look for excursions that cater to military enthusiasts. Whether it’s visiting historical landmarks, military museums, or participating in military-themed activities, these excursions can provide a unique and educational experience for military members and their families.

Ensuring a Smooth Experience

Familiarize yourself with carnival cruises’ policies.

To ensure a smooth experience, it’s important to familiarize yourself with Carnival Cruises’ policies. This includes understanding their embarkation and disembarkation procedures, dress codes, onboard rules, and other important guidelines. By familiarizing yourself with these policies, you can avoid any surprises or misunderstandings during your cruise. The official Carnival Cruises website is a valuable resource for accessing detailed information on their policies and procedures.

Pack necessary military documentation

When preparing for your Carnival Cruise, it’s crucial to pack all necessary military documentation. This includes your military ID card, proof of military service, and any other relevant documents required to validate your eligibility for the military rate. It’s recommended to make copies of these documents and keep them in a secure place as a backup. Having the required documentation readily available will ensure a hassle-free check-in process at the port.

Arrive at the port early

To have a stress-free embarkation experience, it’s advisable to arrive at the port early on the day of departure. Arriving early allows you to avoid long lines and ensures that you have ample time to complete the necessary check-in procedures. By arriving early, you can also maximize your time onboard and start enjoying the ship’s amenities and activities sooner.

Address any concerns or questions prior to departure

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your Carnival Cruise, it’s important to address them prior to departure. Whether it’s dietary restrictions, special accommodations, or any other specific needs, communicating with Carnival Cruises’ customer service team in advance will help ensure that your requirements are met. Additionally, addressing any concerns upfront can help alleviate any potential stress or anxiety leading up to your cruise vacation.

Creating Memorable Moments

Engage with fellow military members and their families.

One way to create memorable moments on your Carnival Cruise is by engaging with fellow military members and their families. Strike up conversations, participate in military activities or events, and share your experiences and stories. By building connections and forming new friendships, you can enhance the overall cruise experience and create lasting memories with like-minded individuals who share a common bond.

Capture special memories through photography

Don’t forget to capture the special moments of your Carnival Cruise through photography. Whether it’s the breathtaking views from the deck, the exciting activities onboard, or the memorable dining experiences, take the time to document your journey. Consider bringing a quality camera or using your smartphone to capture high-quality photos that you can cherish and share with loved ones for years to come.

Participate in onboard military-themed celebrations

Exploring Other Cruise Lines Offerings for Military

Research military discounts on other cruise lines.

While Carnival Cruises offers military rates, it may be worth exploring other cruise lines to compare military discounts and offerings. Different cruise lines may have their own unique promotions and discounts for military members. Research and compare the military rates, itineraries, and amenities offered by other cruise lines to determine which option best suits your preferences and budget.

Compare prices, itineraries, and amenities

When considering alternative cruise lines, it’s important to compare prices, itineraries, and amenities. Look for the best value for your money by reviewing the overall cost, the destinations included in the cruise, and the onboard features and activities. Pay attention to any additional benefits or perks that may be exclusive to military members, as these can further enhance your cruise experience.

Consider destination-specific military offers

Some cruise lines may offer destination-specific military offers that cater to the unique interests of military members. These offers could include excursions to historical military sites, military-exclusive activities at certain ports of call, or even discounts on local attractions for military families. Consider these destination-specific military offers when planning your cruise to maximize your enjoyment and make the most of your vacation.

Continuing Support for Military Members

Participate in military fundraising events.

Participating in military fundraising events is a great way to show ongoing support for military members and their families. Many charitable organizations and non-profit groups host fundraisers that directly benefit veterans, active duty personnel, and their loved ones. Get involved in these events by attending fundraisers, volunteering, or making donations. By engaging in these activities, you are contributing to the well-being and support of the military community beyond your cruise vacation.

Share feedback and reviews to benefit others

After your Carnival Cruise, consider sharing your feedback and reviews to benefit other military members. Write a review of your experience on online platforms, such as review websites or social media groups dedicated to military travel. By sharing your honest feedback, you can provide invaluable insights and recommendations to fellow military members who may be considering a Carnival Cruise or other cruise options.

And good luck finding a cruise that honors/gives the discount. DH and I are both retired Air Force, and have yet to find one.

4mrnyer

My dh is retired military and we have been able to use the discount on 3 of our Carnival cruises. One cabin in 2004, 2 cabins in 2008 and our last one in 2009. They don't always have them or they sell out quickly, but they do have them.

Carnival has 100's of cruises with Military discounts, and NCL has a standing 5%.

First, thank you for your service... Both of you..

Now, as for the Military discount.. Yes it is there, I have a PVP with Carnival and he/they have my DD214 on file.. I get calls all the time to see if I want to cruise again WITH the Military discount..

Either get a good TA or a PVP with Carnival.. CC rules prevent me from listing his name here.. (I got sent to the naughty room for doing it once)

Heck first cruise was upgraded from an ocean view to a balcony and the second was a killer rate for a CAT 9A.. (I ended up upgrading to a cat 12 for that trip.. SWEET!!)

They are there..

Have a great day now and again, thanks

We've booked twice on a military rate. I was told the early saver is the better way to go though if its available. I didn't know until it was too late and we could have gotten cheaper now if we'd done early saver.

I am US Navy Retired - +23 years .... and have sailed on Carnival 11 times, 3 times on Cunard, each with a Military Discount . I deal directly with Carnival / Cunard, - and simply have sent in my DD214 to the Personal Travel Person I worked with. They keep it on file in my profile, - so each and every cruise we do - we get the Military Discount - YOU EARNED IT .... Make sure you get it - Ido...

What the ThePatientOne and seabee22 said. When you make reservations make sure you contact the Carnival Representative called a (PVP) Personal Vacation Planner. They will help you out, but you will have to ask. I faxed my DD214 to them.

htkodiak

I always ask if there are any military rates available. It seems they become available randomly.I called yesterday and asked and received an upgrade from an ocean view to a cove balcony on the Carnival Dream. As it turns out my son who has just returned from an 6 month deployment to Asia and has since been honorably discharged will be going on this cruise with us.I had him fax a copy of his dd214 and received a discount when we booked this cruise a year ago.

My dh is retired 06 and we are booked on QV for nov 12 cruise. Is the discount allowed only at time of booking, or can we try for it now?

Bookworm1985

Bookworm1985

When I called to book my cruise the PVP asked if anyone going was in the military or was retired. In all, we saved a little bit...with early saver the rooms were $429 (but they went up to $449 when we booked), and the discount made it $424, plus, instead of an interior room, we now have two portholes...whoopie! lol It is not much, but hey, it saved us at least $50 that we can put toward something else...like maybe our checked bag on the airline. We have always learned to ask when we buy something...places do not always post that they give discounts. For instance, Red Robin offers 25, maybe 50% off to people with a military ID card. My husband found that out when he went out one night after training when he was wearing his uniform. They said if he had his ID on him they could give him the discount. It doesn't hurt to ask. The worse that happens is that they say no, and then there is no harm done.

A lot of the airports offer a military discount but you have to ask (such as the newstands and even some of the eating establishments). Like bookworm1985 said, it never hurts to ask!

musc2011

I always get a Military discount, if you are a member of USAA, they have a site called Explore Cruise, for Military, all branches, retired and spouses.

Also if you book with the cruise company online, there is a block that say Special Rates . It is on RCCL and Carnival, it applies to US and Canadian forces, Law enforcement and others.Check it out

Hope this helps

Great Review

Finally, spouses of actively deployed, or deceased military personnel , are eligible to book one stateroom as long as the eligible spouse is occupying the stateroom.

Anyone else notice this? I wonder how the deceased spouse is suppose to occupy the stateroom?

Carnival does NOT give military discounts to Canadian Forces, I've tried.:(

You are the eligible spouse of the deceased military personal.

I'm so thrilled! I just went to pay our last payment on our upcoming cruise, and noticed that the rates had gone down for Past Guests, etc....I decided to call our PVP ..... (we happen to have the best PVP ever:))

He checked and found out that our Military rate had also gone down again, so with the savings, it took care of our final payment and we still received some money back!

I'm getting ready to print our documents!:D;)

What is the discount like with CArnival?

Islander-09

One example of the Carnival Discount, the Carnival Valor departing from Miami on 10 Apr 11 for a Western Caribbean cruise currently has an 8M cabin (i.e., Aft cabin with an extended balcony) regular priced at $889/pp. The military rate for that same cabin is $724/pp, that's a $165/pp savings.

Note, Carnival Super Saver sometime are less expensive (available at least 5 months from debarkation) than the military rate. However, Supper Savers carry more restrictions/penalty fees in terms of changes and or cancelations prior to final payment than the military rate.

ARcruisin2

I emailed to ask if Carnival is going to offer Military specials again in May this year... and I got back a 'yes we will' :D

So give them a call in May.

I know they have done this the past 3/4yrs for sure.

Like some of the others have stated, since we are on file as military they usually call us to tell us about the specials.

Thank you BOTH for your service to our country!!!

I just learned about the existence of Cruise Critic two weeks ago when I was attempting to learn about the Spirit's repositioning cruise to Sydney. We're now booked on the first of the repositioning cruises, and I've learned a LOT on Cruise Critic!! My lasting impression is that the majority of folks who post here book their cruises through Carnival; travel agents seem to take a beating. To attempt to be helpful to you, I'll keep the list of our cruises when I post this (I usually skip it), and I'll share that only with Holland America have we not gotten a military discount--and that's because my husband is no longer active duty. Before I met and married my current husband, I was travelling as the widow of a retired USAF service member--and I always got the military discount that way too. The most important thing I have to share is that I/we have the most WONDERFUL travel agent imaginable: This lovely lady books us with all the discounts she can find (she has copies of the DD214 on file), and then SHE keeps an eye out for price reductions, files for them, and then tells us how much the fare has dropped!! As if that's not enough, we always seem to wind up with a substantial on board credit. With Holland America we wound up with a great rate because our TA found a group, and we got that group's rate without having to do anything, buy anything, or listen to anything! Cruise Critic is not the place for commercial advertising, but I believe I can tell you there are websites out there that cater to military folks, either current or former, who want to book cruises! Before I forget for the second time, are either of you members of the Air Force Association? If you are, you may want to check there; if not, then you may want to consider joining: That's how I originally found our great TA!

travelingran

we booked a mediterrean cruise 6 mths in advance. after finding the cruise critic boards and reading about military discounts i called our travel agent and requested they check to see if we could get the discount. we were given a $1500 obc. i was shocked and even more shocked when we closed our on board account that were given a cash refund on the obc that was not used. we have never gotten that kind of discount since. i am guessing that we really were overpaid for that cruise. i always ask for the military discount but it has not been very much less, maybe $50 or less.

So, I'm completely new to cruising, currently working on booking our first cruise for my R&R in Sept, (In AFG at the moment) and would love to find a good TA or PVP like you guys are mentioning. If anyone wants to send me a good site or a name to ask for at Carnival, my email is th0r0ngil @ hotmail . com
