Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about our bikes/biking in munich, i haven't been on a bike in years, is biking in munich difficult.

While all of our tours maintain a leisurely pace, we want our guests to have fun and be safe, so being able to ride a bike is paramount. Munich is a very bike-friendly city and cars are used to sharing the road with cyclists and pedestrians.

We believe there is a tour for everyone, therefore each of our bike tours fall into one of the following categories, which you can find identified on the individual tour page:

Leisurely Cycling  – Perfect for novice bike riders or those that haven’t been on a bike in years. You should have average balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. We will be riding on bike lanes, through parks, on cobbled streets, and occasionally with traffic. Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety. If you’re not sure how you’ll fare, we invite you to come to our office about 30 minutes prior to your tour start time to try the bikes.

Intermediate Cycling  – You should have good balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. Riders should be prepared for small hills, riding single-file behind other riders, and riding in a group. Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety.

Athletic Cycling  – Tours that fall under this category are by no means strenuous, but they cover a greater distance than our other tours and/or spend more time cycling in the roads than our other tours. You should have good balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. We vary between single-file & group riding. Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety. We have children join us on tours at this level all the time so it completely depends on your confidence with a bicycle!

In Germany cyclists are not compelled by law to wear a helment, however we require them for children. We have helmets of all sizes available in our office.

Our tours are great options for families and kids are very welcome. We have several types of kids’ bikes, seats, and helmets to make sure everyone of all sizes is comfortable on tour. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

Do we go inside museums and monuments?

Our bike, Segway, and walking tours do not enter the monuments due to time constraints, unless entering a monument/museum is specified on the tour page itself. Our tours are designed to enjoy the city from a broad perspective, so that’s what we’re going to do!

Discover the majesty of Munich

Hop on a magnificent guided bike tour of marvellous Munich - a city of stunning architecture boasting the Königsplatz, Odeonsplatz and Hofbräuhaus! Enjoy the benefits of bike rental and a family-friendly day tour suitable for children.

Your sensational bike tour of Munich begins at Königsplatz, a stunning square built in the style of European Neoclassicism with abundant references to Athens’ Acropolis, and boasting its beautiful Propyläen Gate. You’ll ride onto Odeonsplatz, built to impress, and named after the former concert hall, The Odeon, on its northwestern side. You’ll be amazed by the magnificent dome-turreted building nestling commanding statues.

Your bicycle tour takes you on to Hofgarten, an Italian Renaissance-style garden offering splendid fountains, lawns, and vibrant borders. Riding into Old Town, you’ll notice its medieval feel instantly, and marvel at the Hofbräuhaus, a huge 16th-Century beer hall, as well as the boutique stores selling traditional Bavarian costumes.

Next, glide around the English Garden, one of the world’s largest urban parks, featuring stunning stretches of lawn, luscious trees, and even a waterfall. You’ll see nods to the Greek style again in the Monopteros, the garden’s hilltop temple. Cycling to the Chinese Tower, you’ll be astounded by this delicate feat of architectural beauty modeled on Kew Gardens’ ‘Great Pagoda’. The five-storey wooden structure, first constructed in 1789–1790, peers out dramatically amongst the trees.

Finally, your day tour takes you along the banks of the River Isar, a favorite amongst locals and tourists alike for its beautiful beaches and tiny islands offering sublime bathing spots in clear, crystal waters.

The Most Walkable City In The World Is This Lively European Gem With Unique Charm

Munich skyline

Walkable cities are unfortunately rare in the United States. However, the opposite is true in Europe. In April 2024, a study conducted by The Burrow from Compare the Market, a price comparison website, named five European cities as the most walkable in the world. So, which city topped the list? That honor goes to Munich, Germany, the capital of Bavaria. Located only about an hour and a half from Salzburg, Austria, it's perhaps best known for being home to the legendary Oktoberfest, a cultural celebration centered on beer.

This destination is very much a modern city but with the aura of a Bavarian village. In fact, it's the third most populous city in Germany. Munich also happens to be one of the cheapest places to catch Taylor Swift's Eras Tour abroad . As for its remarkable walkability, The Burrow states that 86% of Munich's population is concentrated in car-free zones. Of course, this is also a bonus for tourists. For instance, Marienplatz, the historical town square, is rated as one of the best things to do in Munich on Tripadvisor.

From Marienplatz, visitors can walk to other high-rated attractions such as the Munich Residence, an opulent palace that dates back to the 1300s, or Viktualienmarkt, a famed outdoor market, and much more. Unsurprisingly, there are several walking tours available for visitors who are keen to explore the city on foot.

Discover Munich with a guided tour

If you're in Munich and want to visit its many stunning attractions but are unsure where to start, opt for a guided walking tour. Radius Tours offers a 2-hour excursion of Old Town, which is where visitors will find Marienplatz, Munich Residence, and Viktualienmarkt. The tour stops at these locations and more, including the Englischer Garten. Also known as the English Garden, this striking park is a must-see in Munich and is where visitors and locals can enjoy a scenic nature walk.

That said, the Old Town walking tour is highly rated on Tripadvisor with reviewers praising Radius Tours' guides for providing historical insights and tales on Munich's landmarks. One individual stated, "The tour was wonderful, and we got to see things we would've completely missed on our own."

Munich is equally a paradise for bikers. As noted by The Burrow, the city has 1,468,623 km of bike trails, which is the equivalent to over 912,000 miles. If you would rather explore Munich via bicycle, Radius Tours does have a bike tour. The 3-hour activity takes visitors to Old Town, the English Garden, Hofgarten, a park on the grounds of the Munich Residence, and more. Keep in mind that both the Old Town walking tour and the Munich bike tour are conducted in English.

Public transportation in Munich isn't shabby either

If you are not interested in a guided tour, you can also rent a bike for a few hours or days from Radius Tours. While walking and biking might be the best way to roam Munich and its points of interests, the city does have a public transportation system consisting of buses and trams. The MVV takes passengers throughout Munich and even to Munich Airport. With that in mind, The Burrow commended MVV for its safety. Tripadvisor reviewers also have much to say about MVV.

One individual wrote, "If you want to get around Munich relatively fast this is one of the options I recommend. MVV is there you just need to use it." Another explained, "It also means that you can stay outside Munich and travel in for dinner/theatre/exhibitions whilst also enjoying a stay in the countryside." Perhaps the only downside is that passengers can expect to pay over $4 for a single ticket. At the time of this writing, this makes it more expensive than Berlin's, Germany's capital, public transportation.

Note that tickets can be purchased online or on ticket machines found at MVV stations. Are you ready to plan a vacation to walkable Munich? Travel guru Rick Steves says to visit Germany, a must-see European country , in Spring or Fall. If you want to spend time in one of his favorite European towns in Germany, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, is less than three hours from Munich.

The £850 space boots helping England players recover quicker at Euro 2024

The thigh-high boots join pickle juice and 'oura' rings in the unusual methods england have been using at euro 2024.

Harry Kane is using state-of-the-art dynamic air compression boots between matches in a bid to keep in the best possible shape at Euro 2024 .

The England captain and country’s leading goalscorer has had ankle injuries throughout his career – most recently missing two international games in March – and has been recovering from a back injury during the tournament.

Kane, 30, missed Bayern Munich’s last two games of the season and flew to visit a personal doctor to devise a treatment plan that would enable him to play for England in the European Championship.

Between games – particularly the day after – England’s players have access to a recovery area, near to one of their spa hotel’s swimming pools, where they can sit in the giant black zip-up boots, which cost around £850 each, and use a control panel to apply massaging pressure to their legs, feet and ankles.

The boots, which have a decade-worth of design and engineering in them and are hand-made and hand-sewn from premium materials, deliver air from a pump in the control panel through a digitally controlled valve system.

The Normatec 3 boots, made by fitness device experts Hyperice, are popular with elite athletes but have also been used by celebrities, such as Drake, to aid recovery after performing. They are described as “the most advanced dynamic air compression system on the planet” and zip all the way up to the hips.

Gareth Southgate has constantly tried to make the latest innovations and technologies – and medical, nutrition and dietary advice – available to his players to maximise their performance and recovery at tournaments.

In Germany, the players have been drinking pickle juice after it was identified as containing properties to combat cramp. Pickle juice has been used for a long time in tennis, and is thought to vastly improve recovery from cramp compared to drinking water, which was previously advised. Kieran Trippier was seen drinking the juice, which triggers a response in the body to stop the muscles cramping, while trying to coax the cramp out of his legs during England’s opening group game against Serbia.

Each member of the 26-player squad was also given an Oura ring to wear while in Germany. The fitness device, when worn 24-hours a day, collects detailed data on sleep quality, heart rate variability, blood oxygen rate and body temperature, and provides the players with updates throughout the day about what condition their body is in. Southgate has also been wearing one.

At the Qatar World Cup, i revealed how Kyle Walker had been using high tech goggles , a massage gun and a different form of smaller compression boot to aid his fitness and recovery at the Qatar World Cup.

The Smart Goggles gently massaged the face and monitored heart rate to relieve headaches and reduce stress, anxiety, eyestrain and tension in the face muscles.

Walker’s Manchester City teammates Phil Foden and John Stones also used the devices during the tournament.

A pleasant cycling tour down the Isar River to the Aumeister beer garden and through the Englischer Garten back to Marienplatz. Have fun at the Englischer-Garten-Tour by bike.

Route length: approx. 15 km | Duration: approx. 2 hours

This tour begins under the arch of the Altes Rathaus on Marienplatz . Head through the Tal to Isartor, and then straight on and across Ludwigsbrücke. The Deutsches Museum can be seen on one of the Isar River islands on the right hand side. Turn sharply round to the right after crossing the river, then under the bridge and straight on, following the Isar River cycling route downriver and passing the Müller’sches Volksbad pool.

With the  tour app komoot  you can be comfortably accompanied on your bike tour.

You can see the Maximilianeum , seat of the Bavarian state parliament, and the Friedensengel monument on the right. Continue through Herzogpark and on to Oberföhring weir on the Isar River. At the weir, cycle right and continue out of the city along the central Isar canal, until you reach the wooden St. Emmeram bridge.

Climb the Monopteros and enjoy the view of the silhouette of the old town.

Cross the bridge and head through the Englischer Garten , following signs for “Aumeister”. Cycle along the Schwabinger Bach stream and then to Kleinhesseloher See, passing the Isarring on the way. Follow signs for the Chinesischen Turm (Chinese Tower). You might like to take a detour to visit the Hirschau beer garden and the Seehaus (lake house) by Kleinhesseloher See.

The cycle path will take you towards the city centre. After around 500 metres, just before Eisbachbrücke, take a left and follow the narrow cycle path that runs parallel to the stream. At the end of the park, turn right onto Prinzregentenstrasse. The bridge offers the best view of the river surfers on the Eisbachwelle (Eisbach wave). Continue along Prinzregentenstrasse past the Haus der Kunst art gallery and on to the corner of Königinstrasse. Here, cross at the pedestrian crossing and head along the cycle path to Hofgarten , with Hofgarten Temple at its centre.

Then cycle along Hofgartenstrasse to Odeonsplatz . From there, head left onto Residenzstrasse and go straight on until you arrive back at Marienplatz. Have a good ride!

Euro 2024 has reached the knockout stage with 16 of the 24 teams that began the tournament making it out of the groups and eight sides heading home to enjoy the rest of their summer break.

While none of the heavy pre-tournament favourites fell at the first hurdle, World Cup 2022 semi-finalists Croatia did exit after Mattia Zaccagni’s 98th-minute equaliser broke their hearts, while the likes of Ukraine, Poland, Albania and Hungary all showed flashes of potential but weren’t able to translate that into a last-16 spot.

England have laboured through the group stage as negative noise around the squad grows but they are hardly alone in stumbling, with the likes of France, Italy, Belgium and even hosts Germany showing fallibility through unconvincing performances.

Classy Austria and swashbuckling Georgia have perhaps been the two most surprisingly impressive sides , although a more familiar name, Spain, are the only team to reach the knockouts with a 100 per cent record intact.

Here is the full schedule for the Euro 2024 knockouts, plus below you can see day-by-day fixtures and times (BST) in text form:

Denmark 0-0 Serbia: Danes progress to last 16 of Euro 2024 after goalless draw in Munich, Serbia out

Will Evans

Updated 25/06/2024 at 21:48 GMT

Denmark moved into the last 16 of Euro 2024 following their third consecutive draw of the tournament. It was enough to knock out Serbia, who just couldn't find the goal they needed to maintain their hopes of progressing. Denmark finished second in the group after England drew with Slovenia to secure their position as group winners.
