What type of oil for my V10. Motorcraft semi-synthetic5W-30or5W-20 is recommended, cheap and readily available at Wal-Mart. Royal Purple pure synthetic is the way to go. Good call! I currently have Royal Purple 5-20 in my Excursion right now. 2000 V10 with 97700 mi.

I just bought a smallish RV with a Ford V10 under the hood. The oil filler cap states5w-20 oil is recommended, however this seems pretty thin to me for such a hard working engine. I was thinking of going with Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, any thoughts on this?

CAFE is the main reason for the development of this oil. If it were my Excursion I would not run 5w-20. I had a 2001 Excursion with the V-10 and I ran 10w-30 Mobil 1 in it. Try "BOB IS THE OIL GUY.com" (leave out the spaces when you type in the address) and seach CAFE standards and read about HTHS. You can make up your own mind then.
