The Luangwa Valley, an extension of the Great East African Rift Valley, is the honey-pot of Zambia. Here dramatic seasonal variations, a dynamic river system, fertile soils and lush vegetation ensure a prolific supply of wildlife.

Sustainable Tourism

Remote Africa Safaris is actively involved, through the Tafika Fund, in sustainably uplifting the surrounding community. Over the years a number of long-term initiatives have been successfully implemented and maintained.

From The Guest Book

“Dear John, Carol, Heather, Bryan and Team- especially Amon and Mcooper for superb guiding (and bad jokes) Just to say how much we enjoyed our few days at Tafika. The setting is stunning, the level of guiding must be the best in Africa, and the ethics of Remote Africa’s attitude to responsible tourism is to be highly commended.”

After a great morning walk we were welcomed by Alex and his team.

Overlooking the confluence of the Luangwa and the Mwaleshi river, Takwela enjoys an unrivaled position in North Luangwa. The infrastructure is authentic but first class quality.

Lunch was excellent as were the table companions.

congratulations to Alex & co !

“Nothing ever seemed too much trouble and we truly felt very welcome. The guiding, the cuisine and the accommodation could not have been better. We loved every minute of it and so enjoyed meeting you and getting to know you.”

Mwaleshi’s walking safaris offer a truly unique and magical safari experience. The camp is just the right side of rustic – authentic and comfortable bush living in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Mwaleshi river.  An afternoon dip in the river with a glass of wine is an absolute must!

The guides and camp staff are exceptional – some of the most friendly and knowledgeable we’ve met anywhere on our travels. It’s obvious how much they truly care about their guests. Chef James turns out delicious lunches and dinners (fresh salads, grilled meats, chicken satays), exactly the kind of thing you fancy after several hours of bush walks. We moved on to another camp afterwards and wished we could have had Chef James with us!

If you’re up for an adventure on foot and interested in experiencing a totally different kind of safari, we highly recommend Mwaleshi. You’ll get closer to the animals than you think — and that’s a pretty incredible feeling!

(Mwaleshi feedback from Expert Africa )

Exactly what we requested – we asked for remote and we got it. On game drives there were no other vehicles other than Tafika vehicles in that part of the National Park. For those spending more time there than we did, there were lots of activities available, microlight flight, walks, bicycle safari as well as game drives.

Food excellent – we really appreciated the home grown vegetables at every meal.

The Coppinger family were always around, making you feel very welcome and it gave it more of a feel of staying in their home and not an impersonal hotel. The staff were always welcoming, drive guides extremely knowledgeable and always ready to pass on information and to personalise it with their own experiences.

(Tafika feedback from Expert Africa )

“Dear John and Carol and the rest of the team,

We had the wonderful option to be able to stay with you for a few days on our first trip to Zambia, and on arrival we were made feel very welcome. The whole experience was just out of this world. Your staff were wonderful and all the activities that we participated in were very well organised and we enjoyed them thoroughly. It was wonderful way to be introduced to Zambia. We found it very hard to leave.”

A delightful place to stay with a lovely view of a small riverbed from the upstairs bedroom and the animals that wandered down to it, including baboons and a large group of giraffe. You would never know unless they told you that everything is set up at the start of the season and pulled down at the end, it is all very solid with wooden furniture that has to be carried in and out.

We had an excellent guide in Moffit for whom nothing was too much trouble and Amon was superb scout who shared his tracking skills on our search for lion.

The kitchen visit is not to be missed and the food was excellent; the vegetables come across from the main camp. We were left to imagine how the fridge is carried in and out every season – no easy task!

Smaller animals were also worth seeing – elephant shew and a delightful small Scops owl which visited every evening while we were having dinner.

(Chikoko feedback from Expert Africa )
