Best Things to Do in Las Vegas

1. fountains of bellagio.

📍 at Bellagio Hotel & Casino

The Fountains of Bellagio is a free show at the man-made lake in front of the Bellagio Hotel & Casino . This is one of the best free things to do in Vegas.

The lake’s fountains are set to music and lights, with more than 1,000 feet of water soaring up to 460 feet into the air.

The shows only last about 5 minutes, and they happen every 30 minutes in the daytime and ever 15 minutes at night. You’ll want to make sure you get there a little bit early to get a good spot to watch the show.

2. Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

Another great free activity is the indoor Conservatory and Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio that covers 14,000 square feet and is full of whimsical designs.

The plants and themes change for each season (spring, summer, fall, winter, and a special Lunar New Year display), but they’re always elaborate and opulent.

When I visited, it was decorated with a spring tea party theme that was like stepping into Alice in Wonderland . There were tulips, giant tea pots, and beautiful fairies.

3. High Roller

📍 at The LINQ Hotel + Experience

The High Roller is an observation wheel at The LINQ Hotel + Experience . At 550 feet, it’s the largest observation wheel in North America and one of the best places to get 360-degree views of Vegas.

It takes 30 minutes to complete a revolution, and you’ll ride in a spacious, air-conditioned cabin. You can even bring individual outside beverages on for your ride!

Plus, they have Happy Half Hour cabins where those 21+ can ride along with an open bar and bartender for their 30 minute ride.

Get your High Roller ticket here.

4. Fremont Street Experience

The Fremont Street Experience is a pedestrian mall in Downtown Las Vegas with a stretch of about five blocks under a canopy with an ever-changing LED display. At 13,000 square feet, this is the world’s largest video screen.

There are a bunch of bars, restaurants, shops, and casinos along the promenade. Buskers can set up shop in the designated circles on the ground. There’s a free concert series. You can even zipline above the promenade.

5. The Mob Museum

The Mob Museum is an in-depth history museum about the Mob and organized crime, centered on Las Vegas (its official name is the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement).

The museum goes through the beginnings of the Mob, the history of Vegas, Prohibition, and organized crime today.

The museum is set in the 1933 U.S. Post Office and Courthouse building. This courthouse was the site of one of the famous Kefauver Committee hearings, which exposed a lot of the ongoings of America’s organized crime.

Get your tickets to The Mob Museum here.

6. The Underground Speakeasy and Distillery

Part of the Mob Museum is their Underground Speakeasy and Distillery .

The speakeasy is a bar, but it’s also filled with exhibits and artifacts from the Roaring Twenties. They have a menu of craft Prohibition-inspired cocktails, many made with their own moonshine from their distillery. We recommend the Moonshine Mayhem and the Italian Creme Soda.

If you’ve already gotten a ticket to the Mob Museum , you’ll just head down to the basement from inside the building. If you’re just visiting the speakeasy, you’ll need the password from their website, and you’ll enter through an unmarked door around the side of the building.

7. Hoover Dam Day Trip

The Hoover Dam is one of the most popular day trips from Las Vegas because it’s really easy to get to. A day trip to Hoover Dam takes only about a 45 minute drive from Vegas.

The Hoover Dam is a feat of engineering that controls floods, provides irrigation water, and produces hydroelectric power. It was built between 1931 and 1936 and was the first large concrete structure of its kind.

A day trip to the Hoover Dam provides you a photo stop at the Hoover Dam bypass bridge for the best view of the dam. Then you’ll head down into the dam itself to view the power plant, generators, and diversion tunnels. Plus you’ll get a chance to walk on top of the dam.

Take this day trip to the Hoover Dam; get your tickets here.

8. Grand Canyon Day Trip

The Grand Canyon is another popular day trip from Vegas. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon National Park is one of the most popular national parks in the US. The Grand Canyon is a beautiful canyon that has been carved and eroded by the Colorado River, leaving behind steep drop-offs and layered bands of red rock.

There are a ton of day trip options that will take you just to the Grand Canyon , or to both the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam . You’ll be able to walk right up to the rim of the canyon, walk along some of the trails, and step out onto the Skywalk, a floating glass bridge over the canyon’s edge.

Take this day trip to the Grand Canyon; book your ticket here.

9. STRAT Tower Observation Deck

📍 at STRAT Hotel & Casino & Tower

The STRAT Hotel & Casino & Tower has a 1,149 foot observation tower , the tallest in the United States and the second tallest in the Western Hemisphere.

The STRAT Tower Observation Deck has incredible views of Las Vegas and the surrounding mountains. There’s both an indoor and an outdoor viewing area.

If you’re into thrill rides, they also have rides like the Big Shot that shoots you up the tower’s spire, the X-Scream roller coaster that hangs you over the edge of the tower, or the SkyJump where you can leap off the tower. You can get tickets for the rides here.

Get your STRAT Tower Observation Deck tickets here.

10. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

📍 at The Luxor Hotel & Casino

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is a 25,000 square foot exhibit at The Luxor Hotel & Casino that has more than 350 artifacts recovered from the sinking of the Titanic .

The exhibit takes you through the construction of the ship, replicas of the cabins, and personal information about some of the passengers. Throughout, there are artifacts recovered from the wreckage like luggage, passengers’ personal belongings, china, floor tiles, and more.

They also have a replica of the Grand Staircase that you can take a picture on (paid only), a replica of the Outer Promenade Deck on the moonless night, and the largest piece of the Titanic ever recovered on display.

Check out my full Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition review here .

Get your tickets to Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition here.

11. Paris Eiffel Tower Observation Deck

📍 at Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino

Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has a half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower, and you can go up to the Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck for panoramic views of the city.

You’ll ride the elevator to the top of the 46 story tower for views of the Strip, the Bellagio fountain show, and Downtown Las Vegas that you can’t get anywhere else.

Get your Las Vegas Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck ticket here.

12. Pinball Hall of Fame

The Pinball Hall of Fame is a 25,000 square foot museum that houses the world’s largest pinball collection.

The games all belong to Tim Arnold, a member of the Las Vegas Pinball Collectors Club, and the machines range from the 1950s to the 1990s.

You can actually play all of the games. The games from the 1990s cost 50¢ per play, while all the older games cost 25¢ per play.

The Pinball Hall of Fame is located across from the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and across from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino .

13. “Welcome to Las Vegas” Sign

The “Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas” sign was put up in the median of Las Vegas Boulevard South in 1959 and has been a landmark ever since.

It’s free to visit, but people line up to get a picture with the sign at all hours of the day, so there’s almost always a crowd, even going early in the morning.

You can kind of cheat your picture by standing off to the side for a photo, if you don’t want to wait in line.

14. Atomic Museum

The National Atomic Testing Museum tells the story of America’s nuclear weapons testing program at the Nevada Test Site.

This Smithsonian-affiliate museum is full of in-depth exhibits taking you through the world events leading up to the establishment of the Nevada Test Site, the nuclear testing done at the site, and its effects on the community and environment around it.

This is a great Las Vegas museum for nerds , but it’s also a really interesting piece of Vegas history that’s often overlooked in favor of the casinos.

Get your tickets to the Atomic Museum here.

15. Allegiant Stadium Tour

Allegiant Stadium is the home of the Las Vegas Raiders NFL team and it’s where a bunch of big names come to play concerts.

You can also take a tour of the stadium for a behind-the-scenes experience where you’ll see exclusive areas like the private suites and clubs, the Broadcast Booth, the Press Conference Room, and the Locker Rooms.

You’ll also be able to look at the Al Davis Memorial Torch and step out onto the field.

AREA15 is a really cool spot that’s like stepping into another dimension. It’s an immersive entertainment venue with Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart , art shows, VR experiences, axe throwing , a flight simulator, an arcade, escape rooms, a zipline, an Illuminarium , and an observation tower ride.

During less busy times, you can usually get a free entry pass to just admire the art and roam the district. And if you’ve pre-booked an experience in the district, you don’t need an entry pass.

17. Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart

Omega Mart is an immersive art exhibit created by Meow Wolf, an underground art collective that started in Santa Fe in 2008.

When you step inside Omega Mart, you’ll enter an unpredictable grocery store full of whimsical products and hidden doors to unique new worlds.

The immersive exhibit is located at AREA15, Las Vegas’s quirky, other-worldly entertainment district that specializes in experiential arts and events.

Get your tickets to Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart at AREA15 here.

18. Gondola Ride at the Venetian

📍 at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas is a Venice -themed hotel, with replicas of famous landmarks and even their own canals.

You can take a gondola ride on the hotel’s indoor or outdoor canals. These rides are complete with authentic Venetian gondolas, bridges, and a gondolier who can sing to you.

This is one of the most romantic things to do in Vegas! Be sure to get a private boat ride for ultimate romance.

Get your Venetian Gondola Ride tickets here.

19. Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay

📍 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino has its very own aquarium. The Shark Reef Aquarium is home to 2,000 animals, with an emphasis on sharks of course.

They have more than 100 sharks, saw fish, giant rays, endangered green sea turtles, piranha, jellyfish, rare golden crocodiles, and more.

Get your Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay tickets here.

20. Downtown Container Park

The Downtown Container Park is a shopping center built from shipping containers. You’ll spot it by the giant Praying Mantis outside.

They have local shops, restaurants, and bars as well as daily live entertainment.

21. Flamingo Wildlife Habitat

📍 at The Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino

The Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has a free

Flamingo Wildlife Habitat that covers 4 acres of gardens and has exotic birds, fish, and turtles.

You can visit their Chilean flamingos, brown pelicans, Koi fish, albino catfish, and turtles.

22. Gold & Silver Pawn Shop

If you’re a fan of the TV show “Pawn Stars!” then you’ll definitely want to stop by the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop , the shop from the show.

It’s free to visit the shop, plus there’s free parking, and you’re allowed to take pictures inside the shop. You can also occasionally meet the guys for autographs and pictures.

23. Hershey’s Chocolate World

📍 at New York New York Hotel & Casino

Hershey’s Chocolate World at New York New York Hotel & Casino sounds like it’s this big attraction, but really it’s just a huge candy store.

They do have a sculpture of the Statue of Liberty made out of nearly 800 pounds of Hershey’s Milk Chocolate. They have another statue as well, this one made out of Twizzlers.

The store covers two stories and has tons of Hershey’s, Reese’s, and Jolly Ranger products, gifts, candies, and baked goods. It’s fun to look around at all the unique products they offer.

24. The Chocolate Bar

The Chocolate Bar is just outside of Hershey’s Chocolate World. This bar specializes in chocolate- and candy-flavored martinis.

They have different types of chocolate martinis made with Hershey’s chocolate syrup as well as fruity martinis made with Jolly Rancher vodka. We went for a classic Hershey’s Chocolate Martini and a Reese’s Chocolate Martini.

25. Big Apple Coaster

The Big Apple Coaster is the main attraction at New York New York .

This roller coaster goes around some of the recreated skyline buildings outside of the hotel. It was the first roller coaster in the world to have a 180-degree “heartline” twist. You go 67 mph and have a 203 foot drop.

It’s a quick but fun ride, and I’m happy to report that it wasn’t too jerky of a ride.

Get your Big Apple Coaster tickets here.

26. The Tipsy Robot

📍 at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino

The Tipsy Robot is a robotic bar where you can watch your robot bartender mix you a drink.

There’s a location at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino in the Miracle Mile Shops and at The Venetian , but I recommend the Planet Hollywood location.

You’ll order your drink from a tablet; they have over 100 different drinks to choose from, ranging from the classics to some house specialties. Then once you’ve ordered, you can watch one of the two robots at the front mix your drink, pulling from the mixers suspended on the ceiling.

27. The Chandelier Bar

📍 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

The Chandelier Bar at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is a three-level bar set inside a giant beaded curtain chandelier.

This bar is known for their viral “secret menu item” cocktail called the Verbena. This drink comes with a Szechuan flower that you eat before you drink, and the flower numbs your mouth and makes your mouth water, which all helps enhance the flavor of the cocktail.

They do have other delicious drinks, too! In addition to the Verbena, we also enjoyed the Champagne Socialist and the Finishing School.

28. See a Show

Whether you want to see magic, dancing, singing, comedy, cabaret, or circus acts, you’ll find an interesting show in Las Vegas.

The show that we went to has since shut down, so unfortunately I can’t recommend it, but you’ll have no problem finding a performance in Vegas!

Here are some top Las Vegas shows right now:

  • The Mentalist at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino
  • Paranormal – The Mindreading Magic Show at Horseshoe Las Vegas
  • Mike Hammer Comedy Magic Show
  • Masters of Magic Show at Las Vegas Magic Theater

29. Have a Spa Day

Most hotels in Las Vegas have a spa. And if yours doesn’t, you can visit any hotel’s spa without being a guest of that hotel.

You can book a massage or facial, or just get a day pass to enjoy the spa’s facilities like hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms.

Here are some of the top spas in Vegas:

  • The Spa & Salon at Aria
  • Bellagio Spa & Salon
  • Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace
  • Sahra Spa, Salon & Hammam at The Cosmopolitan
  • The Spat at Encore Las Vegas

30. Millennium FANDOM Bar

The Millennium FANDOM BAR is a nerd-themed bar with cosplay events nearly every night. They’ve got a really funky decor with nerdy references on every shelf.

Their drinks are delicious and are a great price compared to the rest of Vegas. We enjoyed the Mana Potion, The Sorting Hat, the Deadpool Mule, and In Groot We Trust.

Cosplay is not required, but they do have themed nights nearly every night, plus they have weekly events like karaoke, trivia, and movie nights.

31. Downtown Summerlin

Downtown Summerlin is an outdoor shopping center with dining and entertainment. They also have events like a weekly farmers market and live music in the summer.

This is also where you’ll find the Las Vegas Ballpark and City National Arena, the practice facility for the NHL Vegas Golden Knights.

32. Tournament of Kings

📍 Excalibur Hotel & Casino

Tournament of Kings is a Medieval dinner and show at Excalibur Hotel & Casino .

It’s kind of like Medieval Times , but it specifically has a King Arthur theme to it to go along with the hotel’s theme.

During the show, you’ll watch valiant knights fight and joust. You’ll also dine on a Medieval dinner consisting of Cornish Game Hen, potatoes, corn, a dinner roll, and an apple pastry for dessert.

52 Better Things to Do in Las Vegas Besides Gamble in 2024

Share with your friends!

Oh Vegas! Party mecca and adult playground. If you’re not into taking risks with your money, there’s an abundance of things to do in Las Vegas besides gambling!

You don’t need to gamble, go to shows or even drink your face off to have a good time in Vegas – all you need to know is where to find the best attractions and hidden gems .

Over the last 5 years and 10+ trips to Las Vegas, I’ve discovered there are enough things to do for any type of traveler!

Including some unique things like visiting natural hot springs and a lion habitat .

Yes, Las Vegas is fun even if you don’t gamble! In fact, the first two times I went to Las Vegas, I didn’t gamble once and still had a blast.

From shopping, to the free shows, all the lights, grandiose hotels and fun buskers on Fremont Street, Las Vegas is a visual feast for anyone!

I think it’s even the perfect destination for a honeymoon or anniversary trip (see my ideas for romantic things to do here) .

If you’re traveling to Las Vegas with zero interest in gambling, below is a list of all things to do that I put together after several trips to Vegas over the years.

I’ve grouped all the experiences, attractions and things to do in the following order:

  • On the Strip
  • Downtown/Fremont Area
  • Off the Strip Elsewhere in Las Vegas
  • Day Trips from Las Vegas

What To Do in Las Vegas If You Don’t Gamble (on the Strip)

1. las vegas strip walking tour (must see spots).

visit las vegas without gambling

On this tour, your local guide will show you all the hot spots on the Strip for photos, as well as hidden gems, speakeasies and several places that have the best happy hours .

Plus, your guide will be your own personal photographer along the way.

This is the perfect tour to get you acquainted with all the hot spots on the strip as well as get some nice photos of you and your travel partner so that they’re not always selfies!

2. Roam the LINQ Promenade

visit las vegas without gambling

The LINQ promenade is special (especially for for first-time visitors to Vegas) because it offers a lively and dynamic outdoor entertainment district featuring an array of dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

It’s most known for the High Roller, the world’s tallest observation wheel, which provides breathtaking views of the city’s iconic skyline and is a must-visit attraction for a unique Vegas experience.

Roam around the outdoor plaza and do some shopping or stop for a bite to eat or patio beverage!

This is also where In-N-Out burger is located!

You can also do the zipline from here, and there’s even an ice bar where it’s so cold you have to wear a parka (heavy winter jacket) to enjoy your drink.

3. High Roller Observation Wheel

visit las vegas without gambling

Taking a ride on the High Roller Observation Wheel is an experience you should not miss in Las Vegas.

I recommend doing this on your first night to really appreciate the beautiful nighttime scenery.

It’s only 30 minutes but the view at night is spectacular.

If you pay extra for the happy hour, it’s a great way to enjoy a drink or two and marvel at the lights.

The bartenders are super fast and pour them strong!

Also, if you’re afraid of heights, it’s really not that bad.

Heights aren’t my best friend, but it goes slow and is super smooth. Trust me, you can handle it!

4. See the #1 Show in Las Vegas: Absinthe

visit las vegas without gambling

Now, I know I said you don’t need to see a show in Las Vegas to have fun, but there are some good ones that are wildly entertaining.

There are hundreds of shows to choose from.

Absinthe is my favorite Las Vegas show.

I wanted to book tickets to see it again after the first time I saw it. This is a show that many people go and see every time they’re in Vegas.

It’s a mix of Cirque de Soleil, comedy and a lot of adult-humor.

If you’re not into that, here are some other highly-rated shows in Las Vegas:

If you’re in Vegas for a bachelorette party, try the Magic Mike show at the Hard Rock Hotel or the Naked Magicians , a new one that started in 2019!

Shows like these ones and any of the Cirque de Soleil shows typically get close to selling out on the day-of, so best top buy your tickets in advance.

You can also search Vegas.com for great prices on shows and last minute deals.

5. Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

a whimsical indoor garden with pink and purple flowers

The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a captivating oasis in the heart of Las Vegas, known for its stunning seasonal displays of colorful flowers, ornate sculptures, and lush greenery.

Take a relaxing stroll through the amazing indoor gardens that are transformed four times a year with the change of the seasons.

This is one of the best free things to do on the Strip and a must-see every time you’re in Las Vegas.

6. Paradox Museum Las Vegas

Discover the Paradox Museum, a mind-bending experience where reality defies expectations.

Unleash your creativity, challenge your thinking, and explore real paradoxes in a must-see attraction for all ages – an inspiring visit for inquisitive minds!

visit las vegas without gambling

Relive the 80s and 90s and play any pinball game you want at the Pinball Hall of Fame.

This unique museum boasts an extensive collection of vintage pinball machines and retro arcade games, providing a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

It’s a must-visit spot to relive the golden era of gaming.

It’s free to enter , and most of the machines run on a few quarters.

This is a great low-cost activity for the family or big kids at heart!

8. Catch all the Free Shows in Las Vegas

visit las vegas without gambling

There are some amazing free shows offered on the Strip every night.

The Bellagio Fountain Show is a must-see .

After 8pm the fountains come on every 15 minutes and treat Strip-goers to a magical choreographed display of water, lights and music.

And another great free show is the exploding volcano at the Mirage (full video of it).

This one runs nightly on the hour starting at 7pm.

9. Try Outrageous Snacks and Drinks!

visit las vegas without gambling

When it’s hot out, look for the frozen Baileys drink on the LINQ promenade.

Or try a cotton candy or gummy bear martini at the I Love Sugar martini bar .

Are you more of a chocolate lover like me? Head over to the Chocolate Bar at the New York New York for a selection of chocolate martinis.

Personally, I loved the peanut butter cup chocolate martini!

If you prefer a snack of the alcoholic variety, Vanderpump Cocktail Garden (Caesars) or Vanderpump à Paris is the latest spot for a sip to hit Vegas.

10. See the Famous Welcome to Las Vegas Sign

visit las vegas without gambling

Start at the south end of the Strip and pay a visit to the famous Las Vegas Sign .

Expect a wait unless you go early.

Folks may be there offering to take pics with your phone for you, just be sure to tip them a couple dollars as they’ll be expecting it.

OR, you could stand off to the side of the sign if your picture taker has skills and can angle it so you don’t get others in the background.

Bonus tip , if you can’t make it down to the Las Vegas sign, there’s a smaller one at the LINQ promenade.

11. Las Vegas Sphere

The Las Vegas Sphere is the newest attraction on the Strip, which opened in September 2023.

It’s a spherical shaped auditorium where you can watch immersive, IMAX-like shows or concerts at this venue and it’s nothing like you’ve ever experienced before.

It’s described as changing the future of live shows and uses super modern technology to make you feel and see things in a really big way.

The Sphere is located behind the Venetian Hotel at 255 Sands Ave, Las Vegas, NV.

12. Pretend You’re in Venice, Italy

people on a gondola on a canal in bright turquoise water

Take a romantic ride on a gondola through the canals of the Venetian hotel.

If you’re visiting Las Vegas as a couple on a romantic getaway, this is the perfect way to spend a few moments together.

Don’t forget to kiss under each bridge for good luck!

Tip – book a gondola ride and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum package to save money and beat the heat for a little while.

And even if you’re traveling with your friends, it’s a nice relaxing break from walking the busy Strip.

Plus, the guide will take you indoors through the Grand Canal Shoppes where you can do some window shopping from the boat!

This is such an underrated thing to do in Las Vegas!

Not sure if it’s worth it? R ead more reviews on Tripadvisor .

13. Admire the Flamingos

Grab a cold brew coffee and stroll through the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel.

There’s also waterfall features and lush gardens.

Read more tips and tricks for staying at the Flamingo Las Vegas here.

14. Pamper Yourself

Then pamper yourselves at the spa for a couple hours. Blowouts and mimosas anyone?

The Dry Bar Las Vegas is a great spot, and there’s even a mini photo studio and selfie spot to show off you and your girls’ new dos.

15. Swanky Cocktails With a View

Get some at Skyfall Lounge Delano up on the 64th floor or at the Foundation Room at the Mandalay Bay.

My guide to the best places to drink on the Strip has all the details and more recommendations.

If you’re stopping for dinner before you head to Fremont, check out the Peppermill.

This place has been around since the rat pack and mob days of Vegas, and still holds its vintage charm with its velvet lined booths .

17. Pool Parties and Day Clubs

visit las vegas without gambling

Cool down and get your splash on!

Pool party season in Las Vegas usually opens at the end of March.

In my opinion, late April is a great time to go. It’s hot, but not too hot and not quite as busy.

Pool parties are generally open from Thursday to Sunday.

If you don’t have a spot reserved, I recommend getting to the pool party by 10:30am.

My top picks for Las Vegas pool parties are:

Flamingo GO Pool at the Flamingo.

  • This pool is not only aesthetic with pink and palm trees everywhere, it’s the perfect choice for a bachelorette party or ladies trip.

Encore Beach Club at the Wynn.

  • This is more of a premier experience. It’s a little more expensive, but they get great DJs to play here. Plus they also have night swims!

Wet Republic at MGM.

  • One of the most popular pool parties in Vegas!

Drai’s Beach Club on the rooftop of the Cromwell Hotel.

visit las vegas without gambling

Circa Resort and Casino

  • This is the newest hotel to open (opened in December 2020) and has one of the coolest pools in Las Vegas.
  • They call it a ‘stadium swim’ – the pool setup is similar to an amphitheater with a massive screen to catch the big game
  • the Circa Hotel is adults only!

But remember, most pools in Las Vegas are only open from March to October.

If you’re visiting outside of these months, you still have a few hotels to choose from that keep their pools open.

Here is the full list of pools in Las Vegas that are open year round .

Travel tip – a cute fanny pack is the perfect bag for visiting the pool in Vegas.

I love this one from Amazon. It carries all your essentials without being too bulky, and is easy to hideaway under your chair.

18. Whack Some Balls at TopGolf

Spend a couple hours at TopGolf.

It’s kind of like bowling but in a golf driving-range setting!

There’s also bars and a pool so even if you’re not a golfer, you’ll still enjoy yourself.

Inside tip: You save money and beat the crowds if you book an afternoon tee time.

This location is located in the MGM Grand Hotel.

19. Tournament of Kings

visit las vegas without gambling

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the medieval world at the Tournament of Kings show.

This is a fun dinner theater experience at the Excalibur Hotel in Las Vegas.

Cheer for your favorite knight as they joust and engage in epic battles while feasting on a delicious three-course meal sans utensils.

This family-friendly attraction offers a unique blend of entertainment, history, and mouthwatering fare that’s fit for royalty.

Reserve your seats for a night of noble adventure here !

visit las vegas without gambling

Head to Overlook Grill at the Cosmopolitan for bottomless bubbles, mimosas, rosé and of course brunch!

Or if you prefer something a little more upscale casual, check out Alexxa’s Kitchen & Ba r at the Paris hotel.

You can’t beat the bottomless mimosas.

Snag a table on the patio outside.

It makes for some great people watching or a perfect backdrop for a cute Instagram pic!

P.S. – Don’t miss my tips for scoring free and cheap drinks on your Vegas trip.

21. Order the Secret Drink at the Chandelier Bar

visit las vegas without gambling

At the Chandelier Bar in the Cosmopolitan Hotel, there’s an off-the-menu drink that is guaranteed to be the most unique and unusual cocktail you’ve ever tried .

It’s called the Verbena, and you won’t  find it on the menu.

It’s something between a margarita and lemonade, but with a twist.

There’s a secret ingredient that completely changes everything about this drink.

I don’t want to give too much away, but if you want all the details about this drink, I posted my experience ordering the Verbena cocktail on my YouTube channel .

The last time we ordered these, it was $17, but prices may have gone up.

22. The Vegas Mob Tour

One of my favorite things to do on every Las Vegas trip is to check out all the different attractions that each hotel along the Strip offers. Here are some of the best ones that I haven’t mentioned yet:

  • Eiffel Tower Experience at Paris Hotel: A half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower offering panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip.
  • The Roller Coaster (New York-New York Hotel) : It weaves through a replica of New York City’s skyline and goes from inside the hotel to the outside!

One of my favorite hidden gems in Vegas is the Rescued Treasures Cat Café, a tranquil haven for cat lovers and animal enthusiasts seeking a serene escape from the Strip’s chaos.

For just $12 per person, you can reserve an hour-long slot to interact with cats and kittens, all while enjoying coffee, water, and snacks.

Beyond a coffee and kitten haven, it’s a non-profit rescue and adoption agency situated at 4155 N Rancho Dr, about 20 minutes off the Strip.

We had no problem taking an Uber there and back if you don’t have your own car.

36. Omega Mart and Area 15

Area 15 is one of the newer attractions in Las Vegas that you don’t want to miss.

Now, there are rescued animals from other zoos and surrendered pets.

In addition to the 36 lions, there’s also a giraffe who paints pictures!

Horseback riding near Valley of Fire state park was one of the most memorable Las Vegas experiences I’ve had off the Strip.

You can choose either sunrise or sunset rides, each include a hearty meal.

We enjoyed a peaceful morning ride through a canyon where the red rocks and desert collide for the most breathtaking scenery.

After the ride we devoured fresh cooked eggs, pancakes, hashbrowns, bacon and coffee.

Then we hung out with the horses and even learned how to lasso!

Tips About Where to Stay in Vegas for Non-Gamblers

If you’re looking for recommendations about where to stay in Vegas if you don’t gamble, I suggest either staying off the Strip or finding a hotel on the Strip that has no casino or lots of other attractions within it.

Best Las Vegas Hotels for People Who Don’t Gamble

Vdara Hotel & Spa : Best hotel on the Strip with no casino!

Waldorf Astoria : High-end luxury hotel with no casino

Park MGM : the only non-smoking hotel on the Strip, and a great chill-pool vibe

Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino : best budget hotel for non-gamblers, because the casino isn’t massive (short walk to your room) and the pool is one of the best in Las Vegas.

Read my detailed overview of everything you need to know about staying at the Flamingo Hotel here .

Las Vegas Accommodation Options Off the Strip

Not everyone is a fan of having to walk through the casino to grab your morning coffee, so staying in a residential neighborhood would be a good option.

Catch some morning sun by the pool, enjoy some mimosas or caesars (or bloody marys) and cook an epic brunch with your friends.

Or, if you’re traveling with a group, consider renting a house off the Strip.

We had a group of 10 friends and this was the best idea! We had our own pool, our own hot tub and our own kitchen.

Having our own place made things super easy to organize. We woke up whenever we wanted and didn’t have to worry about getting down to the pool early to grab chairs.

We played our own music, and the drinks were much cheaper than a hotel pool on the strip.

You can hang out in your unicorn pool floatie with a beverage in hand.

Can’t do that in a hotel pool on the strip!

If you’re planning to rent a house, you can have groceries and booze delivered!

With services like Instacart, you can order groceries the day before you arrive and have them delivered to the house you’re renting.

This makes it so easy these days, and way cheaper than staying on the strip.

For instance, my friends and I rented a house for 4 nights . It worked out to be $30 USD per person.

We bought enough booze for all 4 days and food for 2 brunches and 2 dinners. This totaled only another $50 USD. This is a great option for a Las Vegas on a budget!

We found this great house to rent in Las Vegas on VRBO . It had everything we needed. Lots of bedrooms and bathrooms, a big kitchen and a huge backyard with our own pool and hot tub.

A devastatingly scenic drive stems from the town and weaves you through the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. If you’re up for the challenge then you can tackle the North Loop to Summit hiking trail.

The Spring Mountains are one of the best things to do in Vegas without gambling during winter as you might catch snow and it’s usually possible to go sledding.

35. Stay at a non-gambling luxury hotel

Now that we’ve been through what to do in Las Vegas besides gamble at the casinos, I’ll conclude this guide by suggesting a non-gambling hotel to use as your base.

Although the vast majority of the large-scale resorts and hotels in Vegas contain a casino, there are a couple of options that are gambling-free.

If you want a luxury stay, Four Seasons Las Vegas is conveniently located at the southern end of The Strip and benefits from being away from the hustle and bustle of the more crowded parts of the city.

The resort is serene and laid-back with 5-star rooms, service, amenities, and dining. Furthermore, external guests are not permitted to use the pool so you’ll benefit from a peaceful poolside experience!

In case you’re interested in staying at the hotel, you can read my Four Seasons Las Vegas hotel review first.

Things to do in vegas besides gambling – a local’s guide.

Not a fan of gambling?! Well my friend, neither am I!! Would you believe I was born and raised in the gambling capital of the world and HATE gambling? Living here my entire life, I have thought of a LONG list of things to do in Vegas besides gambling.

Even though Las Vegas is extremely known for being able to gamble anywhere, at anytime (like, you can literally gamble at the gas station or at the airport the second you get off your flight!) , there is SOO much to do other than gambling. In this extremely detailed guide, I will give you plenty of ideas that include drinking activities, non-drinking activities, bucket list Vegas activities, things that are super family-friendly, and everything in between.

Again, I am a born and raised Las Vegas local, so there is no better person to help you with your Las Vegas travel planning! If you want bonus ideas for your upcoming trip, here are some itineraries I think you would love:

Before we dive into the travel guide, I will go over all the basics you should know before traveling to Las Vegas (ya know, where to stay, what to pack, how to get around, etc!).

There is a chance this free guide contains affiliate links. This means, that if you make a purchase through one of these links, I may make a small commission (at no extra cost to you) that goes towards little Rosie’s dog treats!

Where to Stay in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is known for their incredibly extravagant and unique hotels! If you don’t know this already, most of the hotels on the Las Vegas strip are themed around a famous city from around the world. So when you travel to Las Vegas, you are technically traveling to many cities 😉

There are two main areas to pick from: The Las Vegas Strip & Downtown Las Vegas. Both are great options and will just depend on the type of trip your planning! Let me go over the pros and cons to both of them..

TIP: If you are traveling with a group, I would definitely look into Airbnbs! If it’s your first time using Airbnb, click here to get $65 off your first booking ! 🙂

Las Vegas Strip

The Las Vegas Strip is where all the action is! If you plan on eating at the best restaurants, partying at the nightclubs, and exploring the luxurious hotels, this is where you want to be. The Las Vegas Strip is on Las Vegas Blvd between Sunset Rd & roughly Sahara. Once you start going north of Sahara, you are inching into Downtown Las Vegas.

The downsides of the Las Vegas Strip is that the prices will be more expensive (not just the hotel prices, but all the restaurants and shopping). It is also very congested and a pain to get around if you plan on driving.

Click here to check out hotels on the Las Vegas Strip.

Downtown Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas has tons of history and looks similar to what you’ve probably seen in movies! There is the neon flashing lights, trendy bars and restaurants, and the famous Fremont Street !

I love downtown because of how easy it is to walk around to all the bars and restaurants. Plus the prices of everything will be a lot cheaper!!

Regardless if you stay in downtown Las Vegas or not, I think it is worth it to spend a night bar hopping in Downtown Las Vegas and seeing Fremont street!

What to Pack for Las Vegas

If you are looking for a very in depth packing guide for Las Vegas, you can find that here! For now, here are my top 3 must-haves for a Las Vegas trip!

1. Hangover Cure

If you plan on drinking (which, you know you’re coming to Las Vegas right!?), this stuff will save your life! Seriously, it will drastically help even the worst hangover. For best use, pour it in a water bottle & drink it before you go to bed. You will wake up feeling like a million bucks! 🙂

2. Good (and cute) Pair of walking shoes

If you trust me on anything, trust me on these shoes. These are my go-to travel shoes that I bring with me on every trip!! They are cute, subtle, never make my feet hurt, and go with everything. From casual jeans to a sun dress.. you can wear these with everything! Plus they don’t need to be broken in at all!!

3. A Versatile Bodysuit

Personally, I think bodysuits are the perfect travel item! You can wear them with jeans, shorts, dress them up, dress them down… it’s something to have for any occasion. My favorite shop to buy bodysuits from is Showpo !

Things to do in Vegas Besides Gambling

Okay, time to dive into the good stuff!! This is what you came to this guide for at least! 🙂

Like I said, there are a TON of things to do in Vegas besides gambling. This list could easily go on forever, but I am narrowing it down to only the best of the best! Here we go…

Spend the morning at Valley of Fire State Park

I absolutely adore Valley of Fire State Park ! If you have at least a few days in Las Vegas, I would definitely spend at least a morning at Valley of Fire. There are so many easy hikes, scenic drives, and easy viewpoints to check out.

To get there, you will need to drive roughly 45 min – 1 hour outside of the city and pay a $10 park pass per vehicle. If you don’t want to rent a car and drive, you can also sign up for a tour to see the park’s highlights! Click here to check those out.

Sights you shouldn’t miss are Fire Wave Trail , Mouse’s Tank Road (pictured), Atlatl Rock , & White Domes Trail !

Pssst.. This photo was edited in ONE CLICK using my Desert Boho presets !

Go Brewery Hopping and Art Mural Siting in the Art’s District

If it’s a nice day out, this is a must! It is so fun to walk around the trendy Art’s District and explore local boutiques, art murals, and local breweries. On weekends, they usually will have food trucks and live music playing!

My favorite craft breweries in the Art’s District are Craft Haus, Nevada Brew Works , & Able Baker!

Take in the History at the Neon Museum

If you are looking for things to do in Vegas besides gambling AND drinking.. this is it!

The Neon Museum is located in downtown Las Vegas and is by far the coolest museum in town! You get the opportunity to stroll around a massive, neon sign boneyard that is the resting place of all the vintage neon signs from the Vegas hotels.

What is neat about this museum is that there are constantly new signs being added! Even if you’ve been here before, it will likely be a little different next time.

There are a few different tour options to choose from, click here to check them out!

Pssst… this was recommended on my 3 day weekend in Vegas itinerary!

Ride in a Gondola at the Venetian

This is such a unique and fun thing to do in Las Vegas! At the Venetian hotel you can rent gondolas that will take you on a tour through their lagoon!

You can choose between a few options to customize your ride (Private v. small group, nighttime v. daytime, inside v. outside, etc.). I would recommend choosing a nighttime, outdoor ride to see the beautiful Las Vegas Strip in all its glory. 🙂

You can check out all the pricing here.

Go Wine Tasting in Pahrump

Pahrump is a small town just 45 minutes outside of Las Vegas. There are three local wineries to check out, two of which have rows of vineyard views! The three wineries are:

  • Sanders Family Vineyards – FREE TASTING!
  • Pahrump Valley Winery – FREE TASTING!
  • Artesian Cellars – $5 TASTING!

Like this idea? I have a full guide on the best FREE things to do in Las Vegas! 🙂

Take Your Photo at One Of Las Vegas’s Many Photo Ops

Las Vegas has a unique photo opportunity on every corner! And the best part about this idea is that you get to create photos to keep forever (best souvenir ever!!) & it is completely free! I have a lengthy guide on all the best “Instagram spots” in Las Vegas that give you the exact location + photography tips. You can read that here 🙂

My all time favorite photo spot is in front of the Tropicana Hotel on their fake lawn! If you stand on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd, you have the beautiful NYNY hotel in your backdrop. See…

Party at a Drag Brunch

This is one of those things that you can only do in Vegas! Not only do you get a nice brunch with bottomless mimosa, but you get a drag show too! I have this listed on my 21st Birthday in Vegas guide , but you could really do it for any occasion.

This is definitely on the pricier side, but it sure does include a lot! And if you are not a big drinker and just want to go for food & entertainment, there’s a less expensive option for to pick.

The best Drag Brunch location is at Senor Frogs at the Treasure Island ! I believe they have currently discontinued it during COVID-19, but just make sure you check their website before going. 🙂

Drag Brunch at Treasure Island

Go to First Friday’s Food & Art Festival

In the Arts District, there is a big food & art festival that happens on the first Friday of every month (called First Friday … creative huh?) .

There are tons of local vendors, food trucks, artists, and street performers the fill the street! If you are in town during this event, it’s a must-do!

TIP: If you are driving, make sure you show up early so you can get parking! A lot of the times this festival gets PACKED.

First Friday Art Festival

Go Zip Lining With a View

There are a few spots in Las Vegas to go Zip Lining, so it depends on what view you would prefer.

The Slot Zilla Zip Line runs across Fremont Street in Downtown where you can view all the street performers, flashing lights, and drunk tourists ha! Tickets start at only $29 per person and go up depending on the length and time you choose.

The VooDoo Zip line at the Rio off the Las Vegas Strip will give you those nice strip views! And the best part about this zip line is it’s a dual, seated zip line. This means you get to share those beautiful views with the person you are traveling to Vegas with. Tickets start at $29.95 per ticket!

Zip Lining on the Las Vegas Strip

Go Line Dancing at Gilley’s Saloon (FOR FREE)

The Gilley’s Saloon at the Treasure Island hotel has free line dancing lessons Monday – Friday from 7pm – 8pm. My man HATES to dance in public (unless there’s a ton of alcohol involved haha) , so I’ve actually never done this before! My best friend’s mom goes at least once a week and absolutely LOVES it!

If you try it out, let me know in the comments so I can live vicariously through you 🙂

See a Famous Las Vegas Show

If Las Vegas knows how to do anything, it’s an epic show! There are endless options and I can guarantee you will find a show that’s a perfect fit for you!

The most popular and extravagant shows in town are the Cirque Du Soleil shows. There are 5 different shows that play at multiple different hotels, all are equally amazing! Click here to read more about them.

Party your Heart Out at a Las Vegas Day Club OR Night Club

Whether you’re a day drinker, night owl, or just want to go for the experience & music.. Las Vegas has an activity for you! In my opinion, you can’t come to Las Vegas and not experience a club. The lights, music, pure size, and production of these things will seriously shock you!

My go-to Nightclubs are:

  • Surrender
  • Zouk   – My bestie works here and can get girls on her guest list for FREE! Hop into her DM’s on Instagram & let her know My Perfect Itinerary sent you! 🙂

My go-to Day clubs are:

  • Encore Beach Club
  • Wet Republic

Do a Food Tour

Las Vegas should really be most known for it’s incredible food scene! Crafted chefs from around the world have opened up restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip, meaning there are endless amazing options to choose from.

If you can’t choose just one place to eat, why not try them all! There are tons of food tours that will take you to hidden gems, downtown walking tours, on the strip or off the strip, and so much more. Click here to browse through options.

Spend a Day at Death Valley National Park

Death Valley National Park is only 2 hours from Las Vegas, making it the perfect day trip! There are tons of things to do and see in this national park, so you could even spend a night in the area to explore more.

OR if you would rather not have to drive and worry about what sites to see, there are many tours that can take you out there. Click here to check those out.

Salt Flats in Death Valley

Take a Helicopter Ride of the Las Vegas Strip

This is definitely a splurge, but definitely worth the price tag! There is something so unique and impressive about seeing the Las Vegas Strip from above!

If you are flying over the Las Vegas Strip, I would definitely spend the extra money and see it at night! I promise you it will be 1000% better! Click here to check that out!

There are also flights that will take you all the way out to the Grand Canyon, which if you have never seen this wonder of the world, this is the best way to do it! Click here to check that tour out!

Las Vegas Helicopter Ride

Rent a Boat at Lake Mead or Sand Hollow

If you are traveling to Las Vegas during the warmer months (which let’s be frank… that is majority of the year!!) , then a lake day is a must! Lake Mead is only 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip and has tons of boats to rent, cliff jumping, kayak tours, hot springs, and beaches to relax on.

DISCLOSURE: Lake Mead is not the nicest lake! The water smells bad, the beaches are not nice and sandy, and it can get very crowded. It is still a really fun day if you have a boat, but just don’t be expecting Lake Como or something 😉

Another option for a lake day is at Sand Hollow , which is my hidden gem!! Only 2 hours outside of Las Vegas near St. George UT you can relax at those soft, red sand beaches. This lake is extremely warm year round, shaped like a heart, has excellent golf courses, boat & kayak rentals, and sand dunes surrounding the lake with dune buggy rentals.

If you have time to drive a little farther, I would 100% recommend Sand Hollow!

Lake Day at Sand Hollow near Las Vegas

Don’t forget your cute lake floats !! 🙂

Spend the Day at the Spa

Are you starting to notice the trend of everything in Vegas is completely over-the-top? Well, the spa experience is no different!!

Almost every hotel on the Las Vegas strip has a spa of their own, where you will not only get a spa treatment (massage or facial), but access to their spa amenities for the day. The amenities are what make the Las Vegas spas so unique… You can expect to find things like saunas, steam rooms, meditation rooms, and even snow rooms.

Yes, you read that right.

If you want a gold facial after you relax in the snow room, be sure to head to Caesar’s Palace !

Cheer on the Las Vegas Knights at a Hockey Game

The Las Vegas Golden Knights were Las Vegas’s first professional sports team! Because it was long overdue, the entire city rallied behind them and became loyal fans! On their very first year they made it all the way to the Stanley Cup, which is nearly impossible for a rookie team.

The Golden Knights hockey games are extremely lively, entertaining, and so much fun! If you don’t want to commit to an entire hockey game, you can also hang out in “ The Park ” area at  one of the bars. During home games, these bars outside of the stadium are packed and full of fun!

Ride the Rollercoaster at the NYNY Hotel

This is definitely over-priced, but it’s because it’s one of those things you will only do once! At the NYNY hotel, you can ride a roller coaster right in the middle of the strip!

It is a really amazing experience to see the Las Vegas strip from that viewpoint, and it’s a ton of fun! This is a fun thing to do in Vegas for kids because there is also an arcade at the roller coaster entrance. 🙂

Click here to check out current ticket pricing for the Big Apple Coaster!

Go On an EPIC Shopping Spree

There are so many luxury malls along the Las Vegas Strip to splurge on that item you’ve always wanted! If you are traveling to Las Vegas during Christmas, all of the malls have incredible Christmas decorations worth checking out.

The main malls on the strip are the Fashion Show Mall , Shops at the Crystals , and Miracle Mile, and the Grand Canal Shops .

TIP: If you are traveling to the Fashion Show mall, be sure to check out their rainbow staircase near Maggiano’s Restaurant!

Common Questions About Las Vegas

Is Vegas Fun if you don’t Gamble?

ABSOLUTELY!! Las Vegas is surrounded by national and state parks, historic museums, lakes, and an incredible food scene. There are endless things to do in Las Vegas besides gambling! Being a Las Vegas born & raised local, I have never wanted or felt the need to gamble.

What to do if you don’t gamble in a casino?

You can rent a car to go visit national parks like Zion, Grand Canyon, or Death Valley! You can also sign up for food tours to dive into the amazing food scene that Vegas has to offer.

Is Vegas fun if you’re under 21?

I definitely think you can still have fun in Vegas if you are under 21! Of course, you will be extremely limited with any drinking or gambling activities.. but if you are traveling to Vegas for the food scene or desert scenery, you will have a blast!! Las Vegas is extremely strict with checking ID’s, so don’t count on “skirting by” and getting into any nightclubs!

What do Locals do in Vegas?

As a local, I have gotten the question, “So, what casino do you live in?” SO MANY TIMES. People genuinely believe the 2 mile Las Vegas Strip is the only thing in town! There is a large valley of homes, golf courses, parks, and outdoor malls that we hang out at. Unless you work on the strip, you are usually only going there for a special occasion!

Las Vegas: 30 Things To Do That Don't Involve Gambling

Ready to head to Las Vegas but don't feel like spending your time in a smoke-filled gambling hall? Here are 30 things to do that are better.

visit las vegas without gambling

Whenever most people think of Las Vegas, they think of the loud and bustling strip , filled with casinos and swanky hotels. They think of smoke-filled rooms filled with high rolling gamblers, ready to risk everything and their mother for a chance to win an unprecedented cash prize.

For a place whose main source of tourism commerce involves gambling (seriously, if you’ve ever been to McCarran Airport, you know that you will be greeted with a face full of slot machines the second you get off the plane), Vegas also has quite a number of things to do that don’t involve gambling, the Strip, or other shenanigans.

In fact, plenty of locals attest that the last thing they want to do when they’re in Las Vegas is do something tied to any one of those maddening things.

“Even though Las Vegas is extremely known for being able to gamble anywhere, at anytime, there is SOO much to do other than gambling,” writes the mononymic Monique, who runs the My Perfect Itinerary blog, and is a Las Vegas native herself.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of things to do in Vegas that are — dare we say — relaxing , too. Whether you’d like to shop in a place that won’t put you into debt up to your eardrums, or you want to support the local economy, or even if you want to just get away on a quick jaunt, here are 30 things in Sin City that don’t involve gambling, the Strip, or other shenanigans.

13 Things To Do In Las Vegas That Aren't Gambling

famous Las Vegas welcome sign

Las Vegas is famous for a lot of things, whether it be blowout bachelor parties, shotgun weddings, or secrets that are best left staying within the city's borders. The most common thing to do in Las Vegas and what brings most visitors to the neon-clad city, though, is gambling. There are over 50 major casinos in Sin City that hold an array of different forms of gambling games, but Las Vegas has so much more to offer travelers than a chance of making it big with a jackpot win.

The casinos in Las Vegas may be grand and the central focus of the city's famous neon strip, but travelers can find plenty to do without even stepping foot in one — and they'll be having so much fun doing so that they'll forget Vegas is a top destination for gamblers. Between the numerous natural wonders surprisingly found near Sin City and the luxurious experiences to be had there, Las Vegas just may be one of the most interesting places to visit. Here are some of the best things to do in Vegas that don't include betting on black.

Get your adrenaline pumping

Just like gambling, chasing an adrenaline high can be as addictive as a physical drug. This similarity between the two activities could be the reason Las Vegas has so many high-adrenaline activities, like jumping off a very real, very high downtown building. For a great, fast-moving view of the strip, zip line rides are available at both Fly Linq and the Rio Hotel.

If open-air jumping from over 800 feet above the neon-clad Las Vegas strip sounds like your cup of tea, heading up to the STAT Hotel's SkyJump launch pad is a must. While you're at the Stratosphere, you might as well take a ride on one — or both — of the tall building's thrill rides. The hotel has a roller coaster called X-Scream that hangs riders over the edge of the building above the strip as well as a vertical catapult that sends riders flying to a height of over 1000 feet in the air. It's safe to say that if heights aren't your thing, the Stratosphere should be steered clear of. If, however, you like to live on the edge, however high that may be, it should definitely be on your Vegas bucket list.

Check out the museums

When you think of Vegas, museums and education are probably the furthest thing from your mind. While that may be the case, there are actually some pretty unique and interesting museums in the city. The Mob Museum is one, and it is exactly what it sounds like. Here you'll dive into the history of organized crime and law enforcement as it relates to some of the biggest crime families in America and how society today has been affected by their crimes.

Another quirky museum is the Neon Museum Las Vegas, which consists of a visitors center that houses restored neon signs from Vegas' history and two outdoor "boneyards" full of broken and unrestored neon signs of varying sizes and ages. Not only is the Neon Museum an amazing and awe-inspiring sight, but it's an interestingly educational experience as visitors learn how the style and science behind neon signs have changed over the decades. The boneyards also make for a pretty epic photo-shoot opportunity.

Vegas is well known for having racy live performances on stages throughout the city, so it only makes sense that there would be a museum dedicated to the history of burlesque amongst the many venues that currently put on shows. Travelers should make a stop at the Burlesque Hall of Fame if they have an appreciation for the art form, because there is no other museum in the world like it.

Get hitched

Las Vegas is a wild place to get married and, for the spontaneous couple, there really is no better place to tie the knot. Sure, you may have to forego the elaborate and traditional weddings you may have had in your mind's eye since you were just a kid if you want an iconic Vegas wedding, but an Elvis impersonator and themed chapel may just be worth it. If chapel's aren't your thing, Las Vegas has a lot of different and exciting ways to say your vows, including on top of a massive Ferris wheel in the center of the strip and even a few drive thru chapels where you don't even need to get out of your car. As long as you obtain a marriage license, though, the ceremony — no matter how short or spontaneous — results in a legally binding union.

A Little White Chapel, Graceland Wedding Chapel, and Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel are three popular and classic chapels in the city that have their own special touches they are famous for couples who want to make quick work of their nuptials. A Little White Chapel championed the drive-thru wedding and is famous for a number of celebrity weddings, including that of Ross and Rachel on "Friends." Graceland Wedding Chapel claims to be the first to use an Elvis impersonator for an officiant and Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel has a number of intense themes to choose from for weddings, like intergalactic and vampire.

Get out in nature

Las Vegas is surrounded by some pretty gorgeous nature sites, including some of the most beautiful state and national parks . The west rim of the Grand Canyon isn't too far of a drive for a day trip, and the famous skywalk just happens to be located here as well. Red Rock Canyon is northwest of the city and you would be remiss to pass over such a gloriously beautiful sight when already so close. If you're willing to venture out a little farther, Death Valley is about a two-hour drive from Vegas, which could still make a decent day trip. Though it's a bit of a drive, Death Valley is absolutely worth it, with unforgettable landscapes that will make you feel as though you've left Earth entirely.

The natural attractions in Las Vegas are often outshined by the neon-clad strip, but the city is a fantastic destination for the traveler who loves the outdoors and beautiful scenery. No matter what direction you start driving in from Vegas, you'll be greeted with nature that alone is worth a trip to Nevada.

Have a shopping day

It only makes sense that a place known for winning jackpots and large amounts of money — when you aren't losing, that is — also has a lot of places to spend said money. Even if you aren't gambling, you may want to turn to a little retail therapy while you're in such a shopping-positive city. The elaborate buildings that house the popular casinos themselves typically have a large area for luxury shopping, and Caesar's Palace has two sets of shops that offer an experience all themselves with large fountains, towering columns, and Roman-themed statues giving a very classic vibe.

Leaving the casinos behind, there are numerous massive shopping centers in Vegas, like Miracle Mile on the strip and the premium outlet mall, where you can get popular brands at discounted prices. If you are into designer brands and the finer things in life, you may want to check out some of the luxury malls like the Shops at Crystals and the Fashion Show Mall, though if you want to do more than just window shop, you'll have to drop some serious cash.

Go to the circus

While all you have seen or heard of Vegas is likely geared toward adults and parties, there are also plenty of family friendly attractions in the city that would make for a great family vacation — especially when you take gambling out of the equation. Like a lot of hotels in Vegas, Circus Circus does also act as a casino. However, the circus-tent shaped hotel also has a very real mini theme park and circus within it called the Adventuredome, and it is perfect for kids and families.

Like a true circus, the Las Vegas one-stop shop puts on very real feats of talent with their various circus acts. Don't worry, there are no caged animals forced to perform; the acts are performed by gymnasts, clowns, and juggling masters from countries around the world. If that sounds awesome, it gets even better, because the performances are absolutely free to view. If you do come with some cash, heading over to Midway will result in hours worth of fun playing arcade games and carnival games. If you are bringing kids young or old to Vegas, Circus Circus should be at the top of your list of must-see attractions.

Get a bird's-eye view

Las Vegas is certainly spectacular from the ground, but it becomes a real thing of beauty from above and there are plenty of ways to get this view of the city. From helicopters to zip lines and even a hot air balloon, you can choose however you'd like to get high above the strip and surrounding area to match your individual comfort level.

If you want to see Las Vegas and the various famous landmarks and parks that surround the city in one go, then you may want to consider skydiving. Sure, you may be more busy controlling your pulse and remembering to pull your parachute, but hurtling toward the ground with such an amazing view of a diverse place like Vegas really does take the skydiving experience to a whole new level. If that it too high stress for you, taking a hot air balloon ride with a bottle of wine and breakfast or a short night flight in a helicopter may be more your speed. Either way, though, seeing Las Vegas' strip from the sky is an experience you should take advantage of when in the city.

Visit a real ghost town

As large and popular as Las Vegas is, there are surprisingly quite a lot of ghost towns in its vicinity. In fact, Nevada as a whole has more ghost towns than towns that people actually live in, so it's the perfect place to explore some of the abandoned places of the past. You may wonder why going to a ghost town when you have the lively, bustling Sin City at your fingertips, but the contrasts between the two constructs a perfect mirror image that gives quite a lot of depth to a vacation to the area, especially when you consider that Las Vegas is like an oasis of life in the middle of the desert.

If you're willing to dedicate a whole day and a couple hours of travel time one way, Rhyolite Ghost Town is a fantastic place to go for art lovers who want to experience the eerie vibes that ghost town gives off. It is close to Death Valley, so travelers visiting the national park are able to combine the two destinations in just one day trip from Vegas. Rhyolite is home to Tom Kelly's Bottle House, which is made from thousands of bottles collected from the numerous saloons around the town that were once in operation. There are two other bottle houses in the town, and they're quite impressive works of art. A much closer option is Nelson Ghost Town, which is famous for being an old gold-mining town.

Discover new flavors

Las Vegas has plenty of food and drink options, but like everything else in Vegas, it can be its own experiential event. For fans of Gordon Ramsey, there are various restaurants of his name in the city, including a Hell's Kitchen location. While you won't be on TV if you eat there, the set-up is inspired by the cooking show that shares its name and patrons will have a beautiful view of the Las Vegas strip as they enjoy their carefully crafted meal.

For travelers who like to enjoy a drink with a show, Lost Spirits Distillery is a must. Not only do they make their own rum, but they also have a "maze of stages" that patrons can wander through while enjoying their boldly flavored cocktail. Even without acrobatic displays and magical performances, Lost Spirits would be worth a visit to wind down the night with a spirit in the beautifully decorated Victorian lounge. If you are looking for a unique and tasteful experience while you're in Vegas, this distillery is likely to blow your expectations out of the water.

See a wonder of the world

While not in the city itself, the Hoover Dam is located well under an hour from Las Vegas and is one of the seven engineering wonders of the world, which is evidence to just how impressive and influential it is. Around 1 million people take an official tour of the Hoover Dam a year, with even more visiting the site unofficially.

Visiting the Hoover Dam doesn't just consist of seeing a huge dam and all the architectural appreciation that comes with it, but also a view of a wildly beautiful desert landscape. If that isn't enough, the Hoover Dam forms Lake Mead, which is a huge national recreation area. Visitors can swim in the lake as well as relax on its shores, though don't be expecting a sandy beach, as it's quite rocky. Some visitors choose to camp at Lake Mead, and you can also go boating and fishing. With everything there is to do and see at the Hoover Dam, it just may be well worth taking a day out of your Las Vegas trip to visit.

Find unique art installations

Las Vegas may not be on the list of cities that come to mind when you think of artistic expression, but maybe it should be. Vegas is full of free thinkers and art can be found all over — and we're not just talking about the impressive display of neon lights, though the Neon Museum is a must-see. The art scene in Vegas is gritty, and you won't find a lot of art museums that showcase the classics. Instead, street art and immersive art are popular, with murals spread out over the city that are ranging in style. Visiting the city's different murals is a great way to explore Vegas, get to know the culture, and find some locations to take some awesome vacation selfies.

If street art isn't your thing and you don't mind heading about 10 miles outside of Las Vegas, there is a massive art installation in the desert that is worth a visit. Seven Magic Mountains is a colorful sculpture that resembles colored blocks in seven stacks. The contrast of the vibrant installation against the natural desert rocks and mountains is striking and worth the short drive.

See a live performance

Las Vegas is all about live entertainment, and there is a wide range of shows happening every night. Whether you are traveling with family or are looking for adult-only performances, Vegas offers it all. Cirque du Soleil has a number of family shows as well as some more adult-centric performances, and the acrobatic circus performers can pretty much always be found in Vegas.

For travelers who want to see a little (or a lot) of skin, there is no lack of options when it comes to burlesque performances (and even racier shows) happening in the city. There are countless themes when it comes to burlesque dances and shows, some of the more permanent fixtures being a zombie burlesque show that is as funny as it is sexy and a country-themed show at X Country. Las Vegas is constantly changing and bringing in new fun experiences, so doing a little research into what shows are available during the time you will be in the area is wise.

Channel your inner car-enthusiast

For most of us, luxury cars and speed racers are out of budget and out of reach, but Las Vegas is in the business of making dreams come true and there are plenty of places where you can have a driving experience with fast and expensive cars. Speed Vegas offers exotic cars you can race around a track, including Lamborghinis and Ferraris. You can also book an entire day with a car, which comes with a professional to instruct you on how to handle the vehicle.

If sports cars aren't your thing, Las Vegas is home to an adult-sized sand box with very real construction vehicles that you can operate. Dig This Vegas allows teens and adults to operate bulldozers and excavators on their large "playground" and all the nostalgia of childhood will make for a joyful and memorable experience.

No matter what type of vehicle you may have your eye on to test drive, though, it is a relatively pricey experience. For some people, though, it is a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive and play with some of the most luxurious and large toys for the grown car enthusiast.

Because Las Vegas is often called Sin City, many people assume it’s not a great place to bring children. But though this city does offer a laundry list of adult-focused activities and attractions, there are also tons of fun, family-friendly Las Vegas activities to enjoy.

There are multi-floor play areas for your little ones to explore, educational exhibits on various science and health topics, and colorful, padded rooms for toddlers and babies.

Watching your kids burn some energy while learning more about the world is also a treat for parents, so be sure to buy your tickets to DISCOVERY Children’s Museum as soon as you’ve confirmed your travel dates.

Relax at the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

Bellagio Conservatory

Exploring the Vegas Strip and its endless attractions can make you feel a little overwhelmed, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the city’s bright lights and large crowds.

Fortunately, there are plenty of peaceful places to take a break and relax. One of the most gorgeous and expansive of these is the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens .

The bright, colorful flowers are accentuated by larger-than-life sculptures and artwork, all of which can soothe the soul and inspire you. These gardens are also a quick stroll away from nearby shops and restaurants.

When you’re ready to get back to exploring the city, you can do so in a matter of minutes!

Go on a Big Bus Tour of Las Vegas

Big Bus Tour of Las Vegas

You can hop on a bus and take in all the Vegas sights while comfortably seated! [Big Bus Tours Las Vegas (A Fun Way to Explore)]

If your legs start feeling sore after a long day of taking in attractions along the Vegas Strip, consider booking a Las Vegas Big Bus tour .

In addition to bus tours of the Strip, you can opt for helicopter excursions , Hoover Dam tours, and romantic hiking tours.

The right choice for you depends on your preferences and travel companions. After all, a romantic hiking tour is a great way to spend time with a significant other, but if you’re visiting Las Vegas with kids, a bus tour will be the better option.

Catch a Vegas Show (or Maybe Two or Three)

If you don't like gambling, then catch one or more Las Vegas shows

It used to be that shows in Las Vegas were an afterthought while gambling was the main event. That is certainly not the case anymore. Today’s Las Vegas is absolutely filled with world-class shows and entertainment.

Vegas has everything from big-name performers in residency to large production shows, plus a whole host of shows made just for Vegas.

I recommend you check out the upcoming concert and events schedule on our website to see who will be performing in Vegas over the next several months. Then take a look at the list of the most popular shows currently playing in the city every week.

Relax With a Luxurious Las Vegas Spa Day

Relax With a Luxurious Las Vegas Spa Day

Las Vegas has some of the best spas in the world, and spending a day at one will feel like heaven on earth. All of the big resorts on the Strip feature a spa filled with relaxing and exotic treatments. Try one of these highly recommended resort spas:

  • Bellagio Spa & Salon
  • The Spa at Aria
  • Sahra Spa at The Cosmopolitan
  • Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars
  • The Spa at Encore

Each of these spas features amazing upscale decor that will have you feeling like you’re a thousand miles away from the nearest casino.

Las Vegas People Watching

Las Vegas People Watching

If you enjoy people watching, it doesn’t get any better than in Las Vegas. At any given time, Vegas is filled to the brim with people from every U.S. state, country, and cultural background in the world, in addition to the cast of characters that call Las Vegas home.

Grab a drink and take a walk or plop yourself down on a bench and watch the people flow by. Whether you’re inside a hotel or out on the Strip, you are sure to see things to delight and amuse you (and probably even a few things that will make your jaw drop).

Explore The Great Outdoors

Las Vegas has a multitude of stunning natural and scenic spots nearby, including the Grand Canyon

Most visitors only think of Las Vegas as what they see on the Strip. Vegas, however, is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the American Southwest. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

  • Red Rock Canyon
  • Grand Canyon
  • Multiple state and national parks
  • Nelson Ghost Town

The natural and scenic areas in the deserts surrounding Las Vegas are more than enough reason to visit the city and never step foot in a casino.

Check Out Fremont Street & Downtown

The Fremont Street Experience at Night is a party every single night

Too many people visit Las Vegas and never leave the Strip. That’s unfortunate because they are missing out on the world’s greatest street party happening every night on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.

Fremont Street and the Fremont Street Experience is a pedestrian-friendly area worthy of an entire vacation in and of itself. While it’s fun to walk, shop, and see the sights during the day, at night is when this part of town comes alive.

Lights, music, street performers, and thousands of your new best friends await you on Fremont Street in the evenings. Better yet, spend the afternoon exploring everything to see and do in downtown and then head to the Fremont Street experience when the sun goes down.

Also : Be sure to grab our free downtown Las Vegas map so you’ll know where to go.

Three-Day Guide to Vegas Without Gambling

A travel guide to "new" vegas.

Photo of Zanne

I was invited to experience a three-day guide to Las Vegas without gambling.  Las Vegas is known for its high stakes, partying, and Elvis weddings. This was an opportunity to check out the other sides of Vegas: the adventure of rural Nevada and the finer side of the city. I have been to Las Vegas about a dozen times previously but this trip gave me goosebumps, smiles, and surprises the entire time.  I’m sharing my 36-hour itinerary to replicate my amazing trip. Here is your travel guide to the “New” Vegas.

Day One in Las Vegas

visit las vegas without gambling

After I landed, I took a cab directly to Treasure Island, my gracious host for the next three nights. Treasure Island, or TI, as they now brand themselves, has moved beyond the land of pirates and now is the center of some of the essentials for Vegas: dining, shopping, and entertainment.  TI is the home of Cirque Du Soleil’s Mystere, the original Cirque production (more on that later). It also has the Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network (S.T.A.T.I.O.N.) headquarters for Marvel Avengers.  I was actually trying to find time to squeeze in a visit to see this since I am a huge Marvel fan, but the itinerary was pretty full.

The night started at Gilley’s Saloon. Gilley’s calls itself the only real honky tonk on the Las Vegas strip.  I had visited Gilley’s previously and it is one of my favorite places in Vegas.  Here’s the confession: I had never actually eaten there.  Bull riding, drinking, line dancing? Yes.  Eating? No.  I soon found what I was missing out on.  Delicious BBQ and huge portions! I was so full I had to behave myself.  And then I was off to Cirque Du Soleil.

Mystere by Cirque Du Soleil deserves an article all its own. It’s a good thing I wrote one already.  The Energy of Cirque Du Soleil Mystere.

One of my favorite things about Las Vegas is the way the city lights up at night. Time for a little sightseeing.

Day Two Las Vegas

visit las vegas without gambling

Depart for networking breakfast with Las Vegas Territory organization. I had the opportunity to meet some of the businesses responsible for transforming the “old” Las Vegas into a new destination where just about anything is possible.  Drive a Lamborghini, drive a bulldozer or excavate a site, experience European go-kart racing, Pink Jeep tours, helicopter rides, hiking…whatever your adrenaline calls for, the “new Vegas” has it all. 10:30 AM

visit las vegas without gambling

We depart for the Valley of Fire State Park. The park has 40,000 acres to hike and explore.  Our tour could only hit some of the highlights like Atlatl Rock. There are three stories of stairs to climb for amazing views of the park or to spot bighorn sheep and see the 4,000 view old petroglyphs. The black patina across the red rocks is the rust from the red Aztec sandstone.  The colors across the park and the energy reminded me of Sedona. We saw Elephant Rock, saw the giant Beehive rock formations, brought our box lunches for a picnic lunch at the picnic tables behind the Visitor Center and then went on to see Rainbow Vista.

visit las vegas without gambling

We departed for Boulder City with a stopover at Lake Mead and took in the lovely desert landscape on our ride. We arrived at the Lake Mead Visitor Center and had a chance to photograph the scenic views and learn about the history of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Lake Mead is actually a National Recreational Area with over one million acres for boating, hiking, camping, and fishing.  On my list for my next Vegas visit is the Sunset Dinner Cruise on Lake Mead.

visit las vegas without gambling

Boulder City is full of history and charm being the city that grew with  Hoover Dam’s construction. It was seen as a beacon of hope for a better future for a nation and survive the Great Depression. The town is only one of two cities in Nevada that prohibits gambling. If you want to take in rural Las Vegas territory and experience the history, the Boulder Dam Museum is also the Boulder Dam Hotel, a historic landmark full of charm.  Small-town feel with antique stores, ice cream shops and bighorn sheep that make appearances, it is the opposite of the city of Las Vegas.

visit las vegas without gambling

We spent a few hours exploring the historic district and then headed back to Las Vegas for dinner at Fogo de Chao at 6 pm. If you have never eaten at a Brazilian Steakhouse, it is a fine dining experience unlike any other. It begins with a “Market Table” which is an experience in itself.  Its almost an appetizer bar. I tried the assorted cheeses, brown sugar, and pepper bacon, potatoes, salad, Charcuterie bar, and there was still an entire side of the market table I never even reached.  Then the “meat” experience begins.  You simply flip a coaster indicating you want a server to visit with fresh cuts of meat on skewers they carve for you tableside. I think we had seventeen options to choose from that evening from various types of steak chicken, lamb, and pork. We stayed until about 9:00 PM and then headed back to Treasure Island.

Day 3 Las Vegas

Sometime in the morning: I had the best Las Vegas brunch in all of my visits, and it was at Treasure Island. Who knew? Honey fried bananas have now changed my life. Then I headed out to the pool area to check it out.

I board my bus courtesy of National Park Express and head out to Papillon Grand Canyon Tours from Las Vegas.  First about Papillon: they are located off Lake Mead and offer every type of excursion or tour to the Grand Canyon and surrounding Nevada area by copter, plane, boat or Hummer. This was my first time on a helicopter, and they were really amazing. I have to give a shout out to our pilot Marnie who really made it a great experience. We flew over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam and I had a chance to see once in a lifetime views. As soon as we lifted off and I could see over the hill, my fear of heights was completely forgotten.

visit las vegas without gambling

I grabbed some lunch at the Hoover Dam Casino next to Papillon and then back on the National Express Bus to Hoover Dam. Testing my fear of heights once again, I took in another view of Hoover Dam from the  Bypass Bridge.  Just for the fun of it, I walked from one end in Nevada to the other end in Arizona.

visit las vegas without gambling

We arrive back at Treasure Island and I quickly change for the more glamorous side of Vegas.

We are joining Photo Tours Vegas to start our party.  John and Joni took us to the best photo spots to capture that legendary side of Vegas.  It was like having a guided tour, party bus with music, props, champagne and our private photographer all in one. I love this idea for a Gal’s getaway or Bachelorette party.  No chasing down cabs, and you have special moments captured for a lifetime.

LATER THAT EVENING

Later, our group of social influencers/travel media professionals met at Senor Frogs’s for dinner. It was another fun atmosphere and it was a beautiful night to dine outdoors and watch the sunset reflected in the resort across from TI. One of the best parts of the trip was an opportunity to network with other content creators who share a passion for travel, and I look forward to keeping in touch. One you take photos in feathered boas alongside someone and down a margarita together, that pretty much means you are friends for life, right?

The opportunity came to explore another headliner show, some went off to explore Terry Fater, some saw Friends, a few ventured off to Magic Mike. When it comes to the theater in Vegas, there is something for everyone. Unfortunately, I had a ticket to see Criss Angel but his performance was canceled for that evening. I’ll catch you next time Criss.  I had an early flight out of Vegas the next morning.  As soon as the sun was up in the sky, so was my plane.

Special thank you to Las Vegas Territory , Treasure Island ,  Papillon Helicopter Tours , and National Park Express.

The Ultimate Guide to Las Vegas Without Gambling

The Ultimate Las Vegas Travel Guide with a detailed itinerary to visit Nevada City, and with so many non-gambling options for entertainment, food, shows, and activities at the crazy, once-in-a-lifetime destination.

A trip to Las Vegas is one of the quintessential American experiences with bright lights and non-stop entertainment and fun. The iconic casinos, clubs and bars, nightlife, dancing fountains, free shows, animal habitats, and more in the 4-mile-long Las Vegas Strip. Having said that, you should go to Las Vegas at least once.

Being in Las Vegas is a great adventure of illusions and lights, shopping, people, drinks, and bets. This city can be overwhelming for the first-time visitor when it comes to planning what to do and what to eat in Las Vegas. But our visit was filled with fun and entertainment without spending too much out of budget.

If you are visiting Las Vegas for the first time, then this Las Vegas Travel Guide will tell you all you need to know to plan your trip to Las Vegas. We didn’t spend too much money when navigating all the attractions but still had a great time in the city. Just follow this travel guide and search for interesting landmarks to see the better chunk of Las Vegas effectively and efficiently.

Ready to hit the highlights of Las Vegas! Let’s start exploring Las Vegas, including where to stay, what to do, how to get there, and money saving tips and more!!

Most people think of the Las Vegas strip. Officially known as Las Vegas Boulevard, the Las Vegas Strip (The Strip) is the most iconic and most visited street in the world. On the 4-mile-long street you can find a variety of hotels and casinos, dining, shopping, outdoor events, and entertainment. It is the home of the world’s largest and most famous casinos in the city.

Just north of Vegas is downtown Las Vegas is the Home of Fremont Street. Where the original casinos started, and it is the historic area before the development of the Las Vegas Strip. Many famous, or once famous casinos remain on Fremont Street. Once famous hotel, The Golden Nugget is located in this lively downtown area.   Featuring with great bars, nice restaurants, casinos, street vendors, actors, and ziplining. The street remains the classic Las Vegas charm with neon lighting, light shows above and without being over bright. It has a great atmosphere and lots of character. But beware of the occasional drunker and homeless population that make you consider your safety.

When To Visit Las Vegas

Las Vegas never sleeps, it is open 24 hours a day. The sin city as people call it, is busy all year round regardless of the season. The best time to visit is Spring and Fall. The two seasons are a pleasant time of year. The weather is wonderful because it’s not to hot and not to cold. While the summer season is a scorcher and is often at time over 100 degrees. It can be very hot during the daytime, but you can get into a casino fairly quickly to cool off.

There are countless hotels and resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. But for a first timer we recommend staying somewhere in the center of the strip. Staying in these areas are easy for you to access most of the casinos, and attractions which will save you on travel time. You can’t really go wrong by staying in the below hotels.

Where to Stay In Las Vegas

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas- is definitely a first-class property if you are looking for where to stay in Las Vegas. It is one of the most highly rated luxury hotel and casino with the ultimate five-star experience. From their accommodations, amenities, pools, boutiques, private terraces, and casino. The location is outstandingly convenient for everything. The view from the hotel room of the Bellagio fountain was phenomenal.

Other great options for higher end hotels: The Venetian Resort Las Vegas and Bellagio Las Vegas.

For more mid budget options, we would recommend staying at the Flamingo Hotel, Excalibur, Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The location is located in the center of the Strip and are reasonably priced.

Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel and Casino – one of the most popular picks for travelers looking for a slightly cheaper accommodation. The property is a little outdated, but the prices are reasonable. However, parking is $18 a day. Rooms are spacious and very suitable for families. Staff are very welcoming. They were very knowledgeable about the area and very helpful.

Getting Around the City

The nearest airport is McCarran Airport, and it normally costs you around $25 to get from the airport to downtown Las Vegas. You can also book a rental car for getting around Las Vegas and nearby locations. The rental car price can go as low as $35 a day. While taxis in Las Vegas are $3.50 starting out with normal tariff being $3.25 per additional mile. Nearly every hotel will have a taxi stand and there is usually a taxi waiting to serve you. Ridesharing is also an option and are cheaper than taxis.

Once you’re on the strip, there is only one way to live the full experience in Las Vegas and that is put on some comfortable shoes and get to walking. The traffic here can be a pain at times and its best to just skip the driving if you can. In general, walking is probably the best option and faster than having to drive to the strip. But if you’re planning to get to some location, you’ll still need the transport for getting around Las Vegas.

You can also save your feet by using the public transportation system that’s nearby. The bus system in Vegas has two types. The double decker buses which are known as “The Deuce”, and the articulated buses known as "Strip and Downtown Express (SDX)”. The all-day pass is $8, and you can use it to get around downtown.

Another option is the monorail and tram. The monorail is located on the East Side of the Strip. And it runs behind the MGM Hotel all the way to the Sahara Hotel with 7 stops in between. The price is reasonably $5 one way, and $13 for a day pass. Multiple days pass are also available.

While the tram is located on the West Side of The Strip and is free. The only downside to that is its segmented meaning you will have to find your way to get on and off between each stop.

Things To Do

Here are some of the things that you can do in Las Vegas as first-time visitors:

  • You can visit the Hoover Dam which is located about 40 miles from the Strip. It’s a quick drive from Las Vegas and I highly recommend taking the time to visit it while your there. The engineering marvel is truly amazing and with a spectacular view of the Dam and the Colorado River. Us is the second highest bridge in the United States and very breathtaking when looking down on the river below. A visit to the Dam is free if you are self-driving with lots of parking available. The visitor center will cost you about $10.00. Guided tours are also available from Las Vegas to the Hoover Dam at a reasonable price. Besides you can couple the Hoover Dam with a trip to The Grand Canyon. We recommend staying at least one night at the Grand Canyon as the journey can take up to 14 hours. If possible, get a rental car and spend a few days in Arizona.
  • Visit the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign. One of the best stops to have while visiting. Its an iconic landmark in Las Vegas and is definitely a quick must do while in town. The sign is located just south of the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort. But it is a short walking distance, so you are advisable to drive. You can take unlimited selfies but are advised to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon if you want pictures without the big crowd and without the long wait time. The queue can get very long, most people take about 20 minutes for a photoshoot and then go. The spot does have about 20 spots for parking while fill up quickly.
  • See a Show. While visiting we recommend seeing the Cirque du Soleil The Beatles LOVE show. It is located at the Mirage Hotel and Casino. It is set to an iconic soundtrack. The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil is a multi-sensory journey. The three-time Grammy award winning soundscape sets the backdrop for thrilling aerial acrobatics, daring trampoline, and roller skate acts, and much more. Discover the psychedelic, captivating, immersive, and technological wonder that has excited and delighted more than 10 million guests. This theatre in the round spectacle continues to be one of the most celebrated shows in the world.

V4

You can also visit Lost Spirits Distillery, Cirque Show, and Cocktail Party at Area 15. Instead of watching the show passively from your seat, you and your companions will wader a maze of stages, lounges, and magical sets. Like an amusement park for adults. The performances happen all around you. At times you will find yourself, literally a few feet away from some of the best world’s best performers. Money simply cannot buy a more exciting view. Often described as “Disneyland for adults” by the press, it is as though you and your friends are truly walking through a dream…. with a drink in your hand from the on-sight distillery. The format allows you socialize in a way no other Las Vegas show can.

There is also FlyOver Las Vegas Simulated Ride. Located right next to the Hard Rock Café and across the street from the Park MGM. The ride consist of you hanging suspended, feet dangling, before a 52.5-foot-wide spherical screen while our film whisks you away on an exhilarating journey across land, sea and sky — all set to a captivating musical score. Featuring wind and mist, wrap around screen, and even the scent of nature!

You can’t really go wrong when choosing a show to see, with the incredibly diverse array of theatrical shows that will keep you busy. You can also find live concerts by famous singers. There are also plenty of free shows as you stroll down the strip. Among them, The Pirate Show at Treasure Island, Volcano Eruption Show with its fireball-shooters and waterfalls outside the Mirage, and the Water Fountain Show at the Bellagio, with its dancing and musical water show are a couple of the bigger strip attractions.

Beef Wellington at Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen in Las Vegas.

Where To Eat

Las Vegas has many different bars, restaurants, and fast food to go in and out of. With all that money flowing in, Las Vegas has some of the best food in the world. But everything is really expensive so be prepared for overpriced food and drinks no matter where you go.

While visiting we decided to make reservations at the famous Gordon Ramseys Hell’s Kitchen. Located on the strip in front of Caesars Palace. The restaurant boasts floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Strip.

We ordered an appetizer of Caesar Salad that had homemade croutons and delicious parmesan crisps. For our main course we ordered the infamous Beef Wellington, it melted in my mouth like butter. For dessert we ordered in the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was divine!

For other dining options we recommend the Yellowtail (Bellagio), Lemongrass (Aria), The Peppermill, and Firefly. Those are the popular picks for travelers when looking for the best food. With most are the restaurants are reservation only or if they allow walk-ins, please allow at least 30 minutes to one hour for wait time.

If you’re on a budget, choose wisely although there are tons of cheap eating places. There are many places where you can get relatively inexpensive food. The places out of the hotels and restaurants on the backstreet will be almost half compared to those eats in the hotels.

Doing a buffet is another great option for saving a few bucks for your expenses in Las Vegas. The buffet at the Las Vegas cost you about $50-$100 depending on the hotel.

Depending on if your hotel room has a kitchen, you also do a grocery pickup as well. IT will save you a couple bucks.

The 10 best things to do in Las Vegas: Non-Gambling & almost free!

Last Updated on October 2, 2023

We never meant to start our globetrotting adventure in Nevada. Instead a series of random circumstances led us to start in Sin City, but after three and a half cold & rainy years in England, the sweltering and sunny Nevada desert seemed the perfect kick-off for our around-the-world journey. Neither of us are any good at gambling, and with no desire to lose all our savings to slots and booze, we set out to explore how to enjoy the city of Vegas beyond the sin. And since we were on a tight budget, we tried to spend as little money as possible, so most of the activities on this list are free things to do in Las Vegas.

best things to do in Las Vegas

Table of Contents

Here are our Top 10 Non-Gambling Best Things To Do in Las Vegas:

1. stroll up and down the strip.

The 4.5 miles between the Mandalay Bay Hotel in the south and the Stratosphere hotel in the north offer nearly infinite people-watching pleasure. Either belly up at an outdoor bar/restaurant like the tequila and taco treasure – Planet Hollywood’s Cabo Wabo, the silly slots and parrots outside the Flamingo’s  Margaritaville bar, or for an Ocean’s 11 replay, score a spot at the fountain in front of the beautiful Bellagio hotel. If it’s not too hot, definitely go for a walk – there are so many things going on along the Strip, you’ll miss them if you take taxis every time you want to go somewhere.

free things to do in Las Vegas

The best free things to do in Las Vegas , right on the Strip, are:

  • The Water Show at the fountains in front of the Bellagio Hotel (every 30 minutes from noon to 6.30pm and every 15 minutes from 7pm to midnight on weekdays, every 30 minutes from 12pm to 6.30pm and every 15 minutes from 7pm to midnight on weekends and Holidays.
  • The Light Show at the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Hotel (every 30 minutes on the full hour and half hour from sunset to midnight)
  • The Volcano Eruption at the Mirage Hotel (every full hour from 7pm to midnight)

2. See Vegas from above on the Eiffel Tower

best things to do in Las Vegas

Tickets start at around $25 per person ($19.50 per child). Tip: pick up one of the free Vegas brochures that are available up and down the Strip for a 2-for-1 discount.

Don’t want to risk waiting in line? Buy a Skip-The-Line ticket – they start at around $20. I’d recommend this if you’re visiting on a busy Holiday weekend.

If you want to see the bright lights of Las Vegas at night, be aware that the night time tickets for the Eiffel Tower are a bit more expensive, and lines tend to be longer. A night time ticket (after 5pm tickets are $24 / $21 for children).

3. Fremont Street Experience –  ‘Old’ Vegas

A trip to the Fremont Street Experience inspires the nostalgic, classic Las Vegas of the early 20th century before Sin City became the epitome for bigger, better, more.

free things to do in Las Vegas

Tip: If you are visiting the Freemont Street Experience, make sure to stick around until the evening which is when the incredible Viva Vision light show begin to run every hour. The schedule varies depending on the season, but start times range between 6pm and 8pm – check the schedule before you head there.

4. Explore the magnificent hotels (and free shows they put on!)

Competition among the hotels on the Strip is fierce, and Las Vegas is one place where the concept of ‘Less is more’ has gone completely lost.

The Bellagio has its famous fountain show and Italy-inspired design (one of the best free things to do in Las Vegas!), while the Mirage is home to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, where you can see Bottlenose Dolphins, White Tigers, White Lions and Leopards – something that especially kids will love. ( Tip : Check if it has reopened).

5. Take a ride in Las Vegas

Several hotels in Vegas have added an adventure ride to their premises, but the most spectacular rides can be found on top of the Stratosphere tower, aka the Strat.

If you’re heading to the Stratosphere Hotel and plan to go on one of the rides – it’s worth buying one of their packages:

  • one Thrill Ride + SkyPod admission are $29.00*
  • two thrill rides + SkyPod admission are $34.00*
  • three thrill rides + SkyPod admission are $39.00*

Admission to just the Skypod obversation deck for the views over Vegas is $20* – so adding a thrill ride isn’t actually that much more expensive.

*2020 prices

For less of a thrill ride, but the most spectacular views, you can’t miss the High Roller Observation Wheel at the LINQ Hotel. This giant 550-foot tall Ferris wheel (the tallest Ferris wheel in the entire world!) opened in 2014 and has been a huge hit with Vegas visitors ever since. The 360-degree panoramic views of the Las Vegas Valley and the Strip are breathtaking.

Tip: Don’t want to waste time waiting in line? Buy skip-the-line tickets from only $26.25 here .

Some great ways of seeing Vegas, I have been here a few times and am not much of a gambler. There is also a free show out the front of the hotel 'Treasure Islands' during the day and of the evening. Definitely some strange but funny characters in Vegas haha, great place! What was your favorite hotel?

Speaking as a casual gambler and former croupier, by looking to spend your time and money elsewhere you've shown that you are "quite good at gambling" :) Gambling by definition is luck, the skill is in the self control.

You're ahead of the majority of the punters already. It depends how you view the Vegas experience though. For many the vegas experience is gambling, losing more often than not comes with it..

Guide to Exploring Las Vegas Without Any Casinos

October 31, 2022, 3:02 pm

visit las vegas without gambling

There are several alternatives to exploring Las Vegas without going gambling. Actually, thanks to technology, now you don’t have to visit a brick-and-mortar casino to bet. You can play your favorite games at trusted online casinos found here and focus your trip to Las Vegas on other attractions. You’re in luck if you’re looking for a different Las Vegas experience that doesn’t involve casinos. This guide will show you all the great things to do in Vegas, from great museums to more nature-involved attractions; there’s something for everyone!

Red Rock Canyon Hiking

For those who love the great outdoors, hiking at Red Rock Canyon is one of the best things to do in Vegas. The canyon offers various trails for different skill levels, so everyone can find a hike that suits them. You’ll be blown away by the sandstone cliffs and desert landscape views.

This Canyon is about 15 miles away from Las Vegas and can be seen from the Las Vegas Strip. To get there, you can drive or take a shuttle. Once you’re in the park, there is a $15 per vehicle fee; however, if you have an annual National Parks pass, you can use that to enter for free.

Hiking isn’t the only activity available at Red Rock Canyon. You can also go rock climbing, horseback riding, and biking. There are even picnic areas if you want to enjoy a bite to eat in the great outdoors.

Grand Canyon Tour

You cannot visit Las Vegas without going to the Grand Canyon, one of the world’s seven wonders. There are plenty of tour companies that will take you to the canyon, but we recommend going with a small group so you’ll be able to spend more time at each stop and enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.

You can go to the Grand Canyon by car, but we recommend taking a tour because it can be a long drive. Tours range in price, but most of them include transportation, park fees, and a guide.

Some tours even include helicopter or boat rides so you can see the canyon from different perspectives. No matter how you choose to see the Grand Canyon, it’s sure to be a memorable experience.

Valley of Fire State Park

Another nature-focused activity, Valley of Fire State Park is about an hour drive from Las Vegas, and It’s definitely worth the drive, as Valley of Fire is one of the most beautiful places in Nevada. The red sandstone formations are stunning, and there are plenty of hiking trails to explore.

In the Valley of Fire State Park, you can do many activities such as hiking, picnicking, and camping. There are also some ancient petroglyphs that you can see. Admission to the park is $20 per vehicle, and annual passes are available for $80. Camping fees start at $30 per night.

Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort

If you want to learn more about Las Vegas history, you should visit the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort. The fort was built in 1855 and is one of the oldest structures in Las Vegas. You can take a tour of the fort to learn more about its history and see what life was like in early Las Vegas.

The Neon Museum

To get a taste of old-school Las Vegas, you should visit the Neon Museum. The museum houses some of the iconic neon signs from casinos and hotels that used to line the Las Vegas Strip. It’s a great way to see some history while also feeling nostalgic. It’s really cool to see how creative some of these signs were, and it’s a great way to spend an afternoon if you’re interested in learning more about Las Vegas’ past.

Fremont East Entertainment District

The Fremont East Entertainment District (FEED) is a pedestrian-friendly area with many eateries, cafes, bars, and lounges. It offers diverse street life and ample shopping opportunities along six blocks stretching from Las Vegas Boulevard East to 8th Street and from Ogden Street South to Carson. The district was built in 2002 and continues to be one of the most popular areas in the city for entertainment seekers.

Mandalay Bay Shark Reef

Mandalay Bay Shark Reef is a must-see if you’re looking for something unique to do in Vegas. The reef is home to over 2000 animals, including sharks, stingrays, and sea turtles. You can even snorkel with the sharks.

Mandalay Bay Shark Reef is one of the largest aquariums in North America and definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something different to do while you’re in town. Admission starts at $22 for adults and $15 for children.

Visit the High Roller

No trip to Las Vegas would be complete without riding the High Roller. The High Roller is the world’s tallest Ferris wheel and offers stunning views of the city. It’s definitely a must-do while you’re in town, and it’s a great way to end your day. Tickets start at $22 for adults and $12 for children.

Las Vegas Helicopter Flight

Taking a helicopter tour is a great way to see the city in all its glory. You’ll get breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip, the Grand Canyon, and more. It’s an experience you won’t forget.

Las Vegas Night Tour

As night falls, the city is aglow with striking neon lights. Las Vegas Boulevard comes to life as you take in dancing fountains and erupting volcanoes. The tour then leads you past casinos, wedding chapels, and historic landmarks into the bustling downtown area. Once this tour is finished, you can enjoy all that Vegas nightlife has to offer. You’ll be able to take in some shows, listen to great music, and savor delicious food.

As you can see, there are plenty of things to do in Las Vegas without gambling or going to casinos. Whether you’re looking for history, nature, or just some unique experiences , there’s something for everyone. So next time you’re planning a trip to Vegas, keep these things in mind and you’re sure to have a great time.

Inside gaming, book your vacation, gambling in las vegas.

Gambling's what this place is known for. If you come to town and don't pull an arm, hold some cards or toss some dice, we have to question if you really lived it up at all. And it's OK. If you're new to the scene, we have you covered.

Bet you didn't know this. When things got ugly during the Great Depression (mining was petering out, and people were leaving the state like barflies when the lights flicker), Nevada had a brilliant idea. They said: "Dudes. Stay. As of now gambling is legal. And guess what? So is divorce!" With two gems like that, who needed silver? Suddenly and forever after, Las Vegas was the promised land. Still today, you can gamble to your heart's content. And get divorced (and married) whenever you want too.
