Jebel Hafeet, on the edge of the oasis city of Al Ain is one of the most popular destinations for a quick and easy nature break out of Abu Dhabi city.

The cool mountain air on the summit also offers a respite from the coastal heat during summer.

This is the second highest peak in the United Arab Emirates, and far-reaching, sumptuous panoramas across the mountain's reaches and down to Al Ain greet you all the way up to the top on the winding road.

Burj Khalifa

Dubai is famous for its dramatic skyscrapers, and above them all looms the Burj Khalifa , shaped like a deep-space rocket and, at 828m, the world's tallest building. Dubai Miracle Garden

Shop 'til you drop

Shopping malls represent an integral part of the culture and lifestyle in Dubai. Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

On the outskirts of Sharjah , the 225 sq km Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve accounts for 5% of the Emirate of Dubai's total land. The reserve was established in 1999 and has been involved in projects to reintroduce mountain gazelles, sand gazelles and Arabian oryx.

It's possible to stay inside the reserve at Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa , which was designed for superluxe ecotourism. The reserve is divided into four zones, the third of which is only open to resort guests and the fourth to a small number of desert tour operators, including Arabian Adventures , offering a less costly admission than overnighting at the resort.

IMG Worlds of Adventure

In 2016, Dubai added four theme parks to its stable of attractions, including IMG Worlds of Adventure , the world's largest indoor theme park. Housed in an air-conditioned hangar the size of 28 football fields, the park is truly impressive, with more than 20 rides and attractions split across four themed zones – Marvel, Cartoon Network, Lost Valley Dinosaur Adventure and IMG Boulevard. Etihad Museum

Opened in 2017, the striking Etihad Museum engagingly chronicles the birth of the United Arab Emirates in 1971, spurred by the discovery of oil in the 1950s and the withdrawal of the British in 1968.

Documentary films, photographs, artifacts, timelines and interactive displays zero in on historic milestones in the years leading up to and immediately following this momentous occasion, and they pay homage to the country's seven founding fathers. Jumeirah Mosque

Snowy white and intricately detailed, Jumeirah is Dubai's most beautiful mosque and one of only a handful in the United Arab Emirates open to non-Muslims. It's particularly beautiful at dusk and visitors are allowed in six days a week. One-hour guided tours are operated by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding , and while modest dress is preferred, traditional clothing can be borrowed for free.

Dubai Fountain

The dancing Dubai Fountain is spectacularly set in the middle of a giant lake against the backdrop of the glittering Burj Khalifa. Water undulates as gracefully as a belly dancer, arcs like a dolphin and surges as high as 140m, all synced to stirring classical, Arabic and world music soundtracks played on speakers. There are plenty of great vantage points, including a 272m-long floating boardwalk, which takes you just 9m away from the fountain.

Other good viewing spots include some of the restaurants at Souk Al Bahar , the bridge linking Souk Al Bahar with Dubai Mall, the Dubai Mall waterfront terrace, or aboard a 25-minute Dubai Fountain Lake Ride on a traditional wooden abra boat.

Emirates Airline Festival of Literature

The long-running annual Emirates Airline Festival of Literature brings authors and thousands of book fans together to celebrate all things reading and writing. Held over nine days in March, the festival hosts talks, discussions, panels and a special program just for children, with many activities free to attend. It offers attendees a chance to meet local and world-famous authors, attend literary debates and workshops, participate in competitions and be inspired by their literary heroes.

Global Village

The carnival-like Global Village is a bit like a ‘world fair’ for shoppers, and you'll find it on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311). Each of the 30-something pavilions showcases a specific nation’s culture and products. Aside from shopping, there's also lots of entertainment – from Chinese opera to Turkish whirling dervishes – as well as a funfair with dozens of rides from tame to terrifying.

Burj Al Arab

This landmark luxe hotel, with its dramatic design that mimics the billowing sail of a ship, floats on its own artificial island and has become the iconic symbol of Dubai’s boom years. The Burj Al Arab's interior is all about impact, drama and unapologetic bling, with dancing fountains, gold fittings, shiny marble and whirlpool baths your butler can fill with champagne if you so wish. If a stay exceeds your budget, you can still partake in the opulence by making reservations for cocktails, afternoon tea or dinner in the underwater restaurant.

Dubai Frame

Opened in January 2018, this 150m rectangular 'picture frame' sits in Zabeel Park , right between historic and modern Dubai, and provides grand views of both parts of the city. Galleries on the ground floor of Dubai Frame tell the story of Dubai (the past) before visitors are whisked up to a viewing platform at roof level (the present). The final stop is another gallery depicting a vision of Dubai 50 years from now (the future).

Al Qudra Lake

One for the nature lovers, Al Qudra Lake is a series of man-made lakes set amidst the rolling dunes of the Saih Al Salam desert on Dubai’s southern outskirts. Part of the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, the surrounding area is unspoiled. Swap skyscrapers for wide open dunes and oasis-like pools where you can spot plenty of free-roaming wildlife, more than 100 species of birds and several desert plants.

This long, pristine stretch of white sand, off Jumeirah Road and next to a mosque, is superclean and has lots of activities, including kitesurfing, beach tennis, beach volleyball and kayaking. There are showers, wi-fi, toilets and changing facilities on Kite Beach , plus lots of food trucks and cafés. It offers great views of the Burj Al Arab, and gets very busy on Friday and Saturday when a seaside market with crafts and gifts sets up.

Perfume Museum

The waterfront Perfume Museum is part of the Al Shindagha Museum restoration project and is the former home of a Dubai sheikha who loved all things perfume. The old building has been restored and its interactive exhibits are based around scent, smells and fragrance. Keep your entry ticket and you’ll get free access to the nearby Dubai Creek House .

Steps from the Deira Old Souk abra station, the sound of Arabic chatter bounces around the lanes of this covered market. Dubai's famous Spice Souk is filled with intoxicating sights and smells. Its vendors work hard to unload cardamom, saffron and other aromatic herbs photogenically stored in burlap sacks alongside nuts, incense burners, henna kits, shishas and dried limes. Away from the tourist-oriented main thoroughfare, tiny shops also sell groceries and other household goods.

Overlooking the Persian Gulf from its perch between Jumeirah's shore and the Palm Jumeirah , this stunning building has wowed architecture buffs since it opened in 1999. Its curved glass façade – modeled after the sails that have graced Dubai's waterways all these years – shelters a world-class, über-luxurious hotel located on its own human-made island. The hotel not only houses one of the tallest atriums in the world at nearly 600 feet high, but it is one of the tallest hotels in the world. Architecture aside, amenities include revolving beds in some suites, as well as a helipad, in case you thought arriving via a Rolls-Royce was too pedestrian.

You don't have to stay at the Burj Al Arab to enjoy it (and let's face it, most can't given that rooms start at $1,000 per night). Gain entry by booking an Inside Burj Al Arab Tour (249 dirhams or roughly $68) or by grabbing a bite at one of the on-site restaurants. Among them are Ristorante L'Olivo at Al Mahara, which features floor-to-ceiling windows guarding a massive fish tank, and the sky-high Al Muntaha, located on the scenic 27th floor of the building.

Skirting the Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai is every shopper's paradise. The massive Dubai Mall is one of the largest shopping centers in the world and houses more than 1,200 stores. Even if you aren't interested in buying anything, a visit to this immense retail center is a must: Dubai Mall contains numerous entertainment facilities, such as an ice rink, a movie theater and several kid-friendly attractions, including an aquarium that houses thousands of creatures. If you happen to be around at night, stop by the Dubai Fountain outside of the mall, at the foot of Burj Khalifa . Created by the team who designed the Bellagio 's famous dancing fountains, the fountain features nightly shows set to a mix of western and eastern music.

Visitors were taken by how much was at the mall – everything you could possibly need can be found inside its sprawling square footage. However, a few visitors were keen to point out that you'll encounter large crowds and high prices for goods. Still, many said that shouldn't stop you from popping in for a visit. Of course, if you're on the hunt for a taste of Middle Eastern culture, this isn't the place to experience it. It is, however, a great escape from the heat, according to travelers.

Jumeirah Mosque Jumeirah Mosque

Jumeirah Mosque is nestled near the shore in one of Dubai's older and most picturesque neighborhoods, Jumeirah 1. Its detailed sand-hued façade – which graces older 500-dirham notes – mimics the architectural style of the medieval Fatimid period. Unlike most of Dubai's other mosques, non-Muslims are invited inside to marvel at Jumeirah's ornate decor, featuring detailed painted panels with splashes of bright blue and yellow. Even if you're not religious, travelers strongly recommend a visit to this mosque for its educational value and cultural significance. Visitors loved the tours and the guides' informative presentation on the architecture of the building and Islam. Visitors also recommend arriving at the morning session to enjoy the Emirati breakfast that is served.

Those planning to enter the mosque should come in modest dress – that means long sleeves and long pants or skirts. Women also must arrive with a scarf as they are required to cover their hair

Along the Dubai Creek lies the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, the original heart and hub of Dubai before the modern skyscrapers began rising to the south. Originally called the Bastakiya Quarter, this former fishing village earned its name from the numerous Bastak (Iranian) traders that settled here in the mid-19th century. The charming little neighborhood houses the popular outdoor café, the Arabian Tea House, and several art galleries that feature the work of local and international artists, among others. Some of the restored buildings also include wind towers, which was an early form of air conditioning. The Dubai Museum is also located here.

Recent visitors found Al Fahidi to be a nice respite from the glitz and glam of modern Dubai, and enjoyed seeing what the city looked like before all of its developments came to fruition. Some recommend this as a good location to buy reasonably priced souvenirs. A few visitors warned against driving here due to traffic in the narrow streets and difficulty finding parking.

Burj Khalifa Burj Khalifa

Although we don't recommend experiencing it the way Tom Cruise did in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," Burj Khalifa is a crucial item on any Dubai agenda. Rising 2,716.5 feet above the city (that's a whopping 160 stories), Burj Khalifa proudly holds the title of "world's tallest building." But that's not the only title this tower's got under its belt. Burj Khalifa is also the tallest free-standing structure in the world and home to the highest outdoor observation deck in the world. You know what that means: gorgeous views. Visitors are invited to ride the elevator to At the Top, one set of observation decks, on the 124th and 125th floors for breathtaking city vistas extending all the way out to the Persian Gulf. Once on your lofty perch, you can use high-powered telescopes and try other immersive and virtual reality experiences. You can also travel higher to the 148th floor, the world's highest observation deck, but it will cost you extra.

Traveler reviews were mixed for the world's tallest building. On the one hand, visitors say it's a must-see simply for its world-famous distinction. On the other hand, some found the attraction to be overpriced with lackluster views as well as suffering from long lines and disorganization. A few tips: If you decide to take a trip to the top, book in advance because tickets sell out quickly. If you can, schedule your visit around sunset: According to travelers, the spectacular views more than make up for the long wait to the top.

Expo City Dubai Expo City Dubai

Even if you were unable to visit Dubai's World Expo from 2021 to 2022, you can still visit the custom-built "city" that played host to it. Expo City Dubai remains an excellent family-friendly destination with plenty to see and do. In addition to restaurants serving global cuisine, there are a number of pavilions that cover various important topics such as sustainability, contributions from women and an organic farm. Don't miss Al Wasl Plaza, the city's captivating hub that features the world's largest 360-degree projection surface with light projections starting at sunset each evening.

Visitors recommended visiting Expo City Dubai in the cooler months as well as during holidays such as Christmastime and Ramadan, when there is holiday-inspired decor and entertainment taking place. Families agreed this was a good place to take children and that renting scooters help traverse the destination more easily. Visitors said they appreciated the mix of culture, technology and environmental aspects that were on display as well as its spectacular architectural features.

Kite Beach in the pretty Umm Suqeim neighborhood remains Dubai's classic beach destination. Offering an ideal blend of excitement and relaxation – not to mention a great view of Burj Al Arab – it boasts a family-friendly, neighborhood atmosphere with activities such as volleyball, kitesurfing, wakeboarding and stand-up paddleboarding, as well as plenty of sandy space to catch some rays. The waters are calm and clear, perfect for a leisurely dip and to glimpse schools of small fish shimmering beneath the swells.

Dubai is and has been a titan of trade for centuries. To get a sense of what commerce was like back in the day, take a stroll through one of the city's traditional souks , or bazaars.

The Gold Souk, located near Dubai Creek's north bank in the Deira neighborhood, specializes in glitz and glamor. Featuring glittering displays of necklaces, bracelets and earrings from more than 350 retailers, the Gold Souk is one of the most renowned gold jewelry trading centers in the world. In fact, approximately 20% of the world's gold passes through this market (it could even be as much as 40%). But if you're not one for gold, don't fret. The souk also sells platinum, diamonds and silver. You're also guaranteed to get what you're paying for. The government tightly controls what is sold and by who in the souk's shops, so you don't have to walk away thinking there's a chance you may be holding something counterfeit. Just beware and steer clear of the free-agent hawkers strolling the walkways, of which there are many touting counterfeit goods. Most vendors are open for business every day between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Nestled among a warren of narrow lanes – some covered by atmospheric, vaulted wooden ceilings that shield the outdoor market from the sun – the colorful Textile Souk sits in the Bur Dubai neighborhood on the south bank of Dubai Creek. A trip here is a fascinating look into Dubai's past, with plenty of opportunities to haggle for supple pashminas, embellished slippers and reams and reams of exotic fabrics. It's a great opportunity to pick up something special for your home, such as cushions, foot rests, rugs and painted serving dishes.

Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

When the glitz and glam of urban Dubai grows tiresome, visitors strongly recommend escaping to the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. The UAE's first national park sits on the outer edges of the city, and occupies about 87 square miles of the Arabian Desert. The reserve acts as a research unit, but travelers are allowed to explore the area – with one caveat: visitors aren't allowed to tour the reserve by themselves. The interesting flora and fauna, as well as all of the fun activities, made the experience unforgettable for most travelers. Reviewers were keen to praise the staff, who they said made them feel comfortable and welcome as well as being knowledgeable. Many recommended the dune bashing and desert safari, described at times as "exhilarating."

Luckily, the park offers many different types of activities. Thrill-seekers can go sand boarding, dabble in archery or go dune driving on a luxury four-wheeler. Those looking for a more relaxed experience can soak up the spirit of the desert on low cushions in Bedu tents for a delectable dinner, or arrange for a private meal. There's also traditional camel treks, horseback rides and even a class on falconry. Visitors can also camp on-site, or retreat to Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort and Spa at the end of the day.

Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark

Since its opening in 2008, Aquaventure Waterpark has been the UAE's premier destination for watery thrills. Following its 13.5-acre expansion in 2021, Aquaventure holds the title of world's largest waterpark at 55 acres, as well as the record for most water slides (50 total). There are more than 105 waterlogged activities in total. With that many attractions, there truly is something for everyone: a high-speed, near-vertical drop into seemingly shark-filled waters with the Leap of Faith; lazy rivers and lagoons; and numerous kid-friendly areas with slides and pools. There's even snorkeling, dolphin and sea lion encounters and an aquarium with more than 65,000 animals.

The wide variety of activities and rides were praised by recent parkgoers. Many recommended arriving early with the expectation to spend a full day at the park to make the most of it. They also suggest making a plan before you go to ensure you get to ride the slides you most desire, as lines can be long – although some advised purchasing an Aqua XPress ticket to bypass queues.

Dubai Museum Dubai Museum

Sitting near the  Bastakiya Quarter , the Dubai Museum offers visitors a glimpse of where this monumental city has been and where it's going. The museum occupies the Al Fahidi Fort, which is the oldest building in Dubai, previously used by the monarch and as a defense station. Today, the museum features a variety of wings dedicated to Dubai's cultural, historical and geographical landscape. Wander around and you'll find everything from goods sold in the 1950s, located in the markets wing, to information about the marine life that lies under the Arabian Gulf, appropriately located in the sea wing. There's also a folklore wing that will likely keep younger ones entertained, and a courtyard equipped with models of local boats and bamboo houses decorated with furniture used during that time period. 

Travelers recommend a visit if you're into history, or looking to beat the heat for an hour or two. Many said it was a "must-see" if it's your first visit to Dubai. 

Dubai Frame Dubai Frame

Rising 492 feet from Zabeel Park – and right between the gleaming skyscrapers of "new" Dubai and bustle of "old" Dubai – Dubai Frame stands as a symbol of the city's visionary spirit, bridging the gap between past and future. More than a towering landmark, this is also an exhibition that takes visitors on a journey through Dubai's past, present and future, showcasing "Old" Dubai through 3D projections and reveals "Future" Dubai through a tunnel vortex of special effects. "Present" Dubai, located high on the sky deck level, takes advantage of its location to showcase sprawling views of old Dubai – Bur Dubai, Dubai Creek, Deira – on one side and new Dubai – Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown Dubai – on the other.

Recent visitors remarked that the "spectacular" views of the two sides of Dubai from the "Present" Dubai observatory were well worth the visit. They suggest buying tickets in advance to avoid a long wait to get inside, particularly in hotter months. Although some guests appreciated the informative aspect of this attraction, others noted that the main reason to visit was for the views as the educational and exhibits portion was a bit light.

Wild Wadi Waterpark Wild Wadi Waterpark

Located along the shore opposite the Burj Al Arab , Wild Wadi Waterpark is a collection of 30 water rides and play areas designed for all ages. Juha, a character often referenced in Arabian folklore, is featured predominantly among the park. Thrill-seekers can slide down Tantrum Alley or the Burj Surj, while those looking for a little more relaxation can glide along the lazy river, Juha's Journey. There are also multiple moderate slide options, as well as Juha's Dhow and Lagoon water park just for the kiddos and the Wipeout and Riptide Flowrider, which is a thrilling simulated surfing ride.

Travelers overall say Wild Wadi is a guaranteed hit with kids of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers. However, despite all the fun-filled things to do, some found the park a bit too pricey and that it is in need of updates, especially when compared to Aquaventure. Reviews were mixed when it came to customer service.

Ski Dubai Ski Dubai

"Surreal" is one way to describe Ski Dubai. Even when the city is enveloped in sizzling triple-digit temperatures, this massive indoor winter wonderland is never without fresh powder.

The Middle East's first indoor ski center, Ski Dubai boasts five ski runs (the longest of which spans more than 1,300 feet with a 197-foot vertical drop), a freestyle snowboard zone, a chairlift, as well as room for toboggan runs and snowball fights. Inside there's also the world's first indoor black run, ski lessons for all ages, as well as a penguin colony.

You'll find Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, featuring one of the world's largest suspended aquariums, inside the Dubai Mall . The aquarium boasts more than 140 species of marine life in a larger-than-life tank that holds more than 2.5 million gallons of water. While you can casually watch the aquarium's marine life as you walk through the mall (for free), a 167-foot-long transparent tunnel that runs through the tank is the best way to get a close look at its creatures that include sand tiger sharks and rays. Its Underwater Zoo, separate from the enormous tank, includes a wide array of additional marine life, such as piranhas, eels and even otters. And if you're a real fan of marine life, a variety of animal encounters will get you up close with critters such as a crocodile, penguins or rays.

Recent visitors appreciated the helpful guides and note that children particularly enjoyed visiting to see the wide variety of marine life, calling the underwater tunnel "mesmerizing." Some travelers recommended including add-ons such as the Feeding Presentation or Otter Encounter to the visit to get an ever closer look at the animals. A few said the attraction was overpriced and felt that the free view from the mall was good enough.

A truly unique piece of architecture in a city filled with eye-catching structures, the Museum of the Future is appropriately futuristic looking with its calligraphy-covered circular shape that is lit up with an otherworldly glow at night. Sitting near the base of one of the city's most classic skyscrapers – Jumeirah Emirates Towers – this relatively new addition to the skyline takes museumgoers on a journey that mixes exhibitions with immersive experiences that showcase potentially world-changing innovations. Spread across five "chapters," or exhibits, your visit includes a space station, Dubai in 2071 and an inspiring play space for children.

Many recent reviews laud the Museum of the Future as a transformative experience, praised for its visionary exhibits, thought-provoking insights and state-of-the-art facilities. However, a few visitors felt the museum's exhibits were lackluster and that the best part was viewing the brilliant structure from the outside. If you prefer an adrenaline rush, though, there's always the thrill of sliding between the high floors of a glass skyscraper, or jumping into the world’s largest dive pool. This is the world's deepest pool with a depth of 60 meters. It boasts a sunken city for diving enthusiasts to explore and holds 14 million liters of water. Tailored entirely to water lovers, deep diving is for those with certifications only, while snorkeling on the surface and scuba-diving up to 12 meters can be undertaken by anyone over the age of 10. Hatta Dome Park Arrow

Ideally positioned a walkable distance from the Hatta Wadi Hub, this is a desert glamping experience that immerses guests in nature, offering them dome-tented accommodation, incredible mountain views, and an abundance of outdoor activities at their doorsteps. Hatta is buzzing with nature lovers and active travelers seeking refuge from the city, and geared up to explore the mountain range. These luxe tents offer comfort and adventure in equal doses. Each has its own terrace, and there are fire pits, barbecues, and food vans just a short distance away. Stylishly furnished in desert-inspired tones, the dome suites have a minimalistic chic design and serve up not only starry evenings, but also panoramic views of the picturesque Hatta mountain range that surrounds them. Al Marmoom Camel Race Track Arrow

A popular heritage destination, Al Marmoom draws camel racing enthusiasts of all stripes, local and otherwise. A day at the camel races is an experience that is nicely representative of Middle Eastern culture, one that dates back to the 7th century. The grandstands are often filled with camel owners, trainers, and handlers, and most seats offer good views of the action. Remember that races start early—between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.—and that commentary and announcements are made in Arabic.

Ain Dubai Arrow

Officially the world's largest observation wheel, Ain Dubai is 75 meters taller than the London Eye. Towering over Bluewaters Island, the wheel affords sweeping views from 250 meters in the air. Not only is it visible from so many of Dubai's vantage points, this attraction appeals to just about everyone—schools, businesses, families, tourists, and locals alike. Rides on the structure are ticketed, with passes sold at the venue or online .

Dubai Spice Souk Arrow

Dubai's sprawling spice market is arguably the most entertaining of all the city's souks. It's bustling, with intoxicating sights and smells. Many of the vendors sell the same ingredients—Persian dried limes, saffron, barberries, rose hips, and traditional Middle Eastern spice mixes. Saffron, while still pricey, is more affordable here than elsewhere in Dubai. Part of a complex that features three Jumeirah hotels and an adjoining waterway, the souk has stalls selling everything from the spices, to handmade lanterns, clothes, souvenirs, and everything in between. There are also two-dozen restaurants, indoor and out, not to mention some of the most spectacular views of the world-famous Burj Al Arab hotel. It’s free to enter, but parking and abra-style water taxis cost extra.

The Dubai Fountain Arrow

The world's tallest fountain puts the ones in Vegas to shame. Multiple fountain shows are scheduled every day, shooting 22,000 gallons of water up 500 feet in the air within the 30-acre Burj Lake. Plus, a new floating viewing platform means you can get much closer to the action than before. Even better, it's free. If you visit the Dubai Mall , you'll likely see the fountains while you're there, so pause for a moment and enjoy the show.

Flying with Falcons by Balloon Adventures Dubai Arrow

In this private adventure experience, the only other person in your balloon is the pilot, who is an expert balloonist and falcon handler. Guests are picked up from their hotels and driven out into the desert. The aerial views of the desert are some of the most spectacular you'll see. Not only is the rolling landscape incredible but it is possible to see Oryx and camels strolling the desert below. This tour is ideal for a special occasion with a loved one or for those looking to experience the culture in a totally different way. Bookings are required.

Global Village Arrow

Dubai's massive Global Village is essentially a theme park for all ages, though it's popular with families as the rides and attractions are kid-friendly. Open Late-October to mid-April, it features concerts, rides, dining, and attractions from around the world. It's on the outskirts of Dubai, so don't think you can pack it into a city-centric day, but if you have time and are interested in some global shopping and entertainment, it's worth a visit.

Sky Views Dubai Arrow

High above Downtown Dubai, 219 meters up, Sky Views serves up a series of adrenaline-inducing one-of-a-kind experiences. Like so many of the experiences offered in Dubai, this incredible attraction is not for the faint of heart. Tread the 25-meter glass-bottom podium that connects the Address Sky View's twin 50-story dual towers; ride the outdoor glass slide; or tackle the Edge Walk, which is exactly as it sounds. Tickets are required but you can buy them online or at the venue.

Al Shindagha Museum: Perfume House Arrow

Positioned on the Dubai Creek within the recently renovated Al Shindagha neighborhood (once the traditional center of the emirate), the Perfume House offers the opportunity to travel back in time and discover the ages-old methods of Arabic perfume-making. You'll learn about the region’s perfume-trading route and explore the traditional oils and ingredients used to make local scents (including oud, saffron, and specific roses).

Kite Beach Arrow

Like a Miami beach with its wide stretch of sand, aquamarine water, beach chaises, and enough activities to make you feel like sunbathing isn't quite enough, Kite Beach is for beach lovers. Join a game of volleyball, give kite-surfing a try, or take a run around the soft running track—when it's not 106 degrees out.

Aquaventure Waterpark Arrow

Now considered the world’s largest waterpark thanks to its recent extension, the venue has expanded by a third. Trident Tower, its newest arm, features the largest kids-only waterparks in the Middle East—Splashers Lagoon and Splashers Cove. Aquaventure contains more than 30 slides and attractions, including the emirates' longest lazy river, some thrilling rides (including the Leap of Faith and Poseidon's Retreat), and a private beach. There are also record-breaking waterslides to get the adrenaline pumping; Splashers Park and the Lazy River for families; and opportunities that encourage up-close-and-personal interactions with stingrays, dolphins, and sea lions.

Legoland Dubai Arrow

Legos come to life at Legoland Dubai (sister to others across the world, including in Florida), where 60 interactive rides and 15,000 Lego models entrance the young and young-at-heart. Aimed at families with children between the ages of 2 and 12, the theme park was created from 60 million Legos and encompasses six lands, indoor and out. And now there is a Legoland Hotel that allows families to really immerse themselves in Lego for a weekend or overnight stay. In the heat of summer, the outdoor attractions can be a little too much to bear, but the indoor ones are just as good—and they're air-conditioned.

Skydive Dubai Arrow

If free-falling over Dubai at 120 miles per hour sounds like your idea of a good time, Skydive Dubai has you covered. Beginners are welcome to jump in tandem with the company's experienced guides, but licensed divers can take the plunge solo. A tandem flight from Skydive Dubai's location on The Palm costs nearly $600—but it's worth it if you're a thrill-seeker who's not afraid of heights.

The Dubai Mall Arrow

As the largest mall in the world, the Dubai Mall draws in almost 100 million visitors a year. It's easy to get lost—there are more than 1,200 shops, after all—but a great place to beat the Dubai heat and ogle at the luxury stores. The place draws in more tourists from around the world than both New York City and Los Angeles so it's safe to say, everyone comes here.

XLine Dubai Marina Arrow

Fly belly-down across highways, skyscrapers, and swimming pools through the city of Dubai with XLine Dubai, one of the longest, steepest, and fastest urban zip lines in the world. From a height of 560 feet with speeds up to 50 miles per hour, riders soar from the Jumeirah Beach Residence to Dubai Marina, passing once-in-a-lifetime views along the way. There's even an option to ride tandem with friends.

Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood Arrow

This quaint neighborhood offers a glimpse into what Dubai was like before the Emirates were formed in 1971. Traditional buildings crafted from stone, palm wood, gypsum, and teak line the twisted alleys and pathways—history and architecture buffs will love getting lost here. The neighborhood is a quiet retreat from the traffic and skyscrapers of the city, and the labyrinth of lanes make this place feel like you're in a secluded village.

Abra Ride Across Dubai Creek Arrow

Riding an abra, or traditional wooden boat, is one of the most low-key ways to get a feel for life in Dubai. The boats gather on either side of Dubai Creek—in Deira or Bur Dubai—and can carry about 20 people. Many locals use the boats to get across the creek quickly and to avoid traffic, but you'll also see lots of tourists, especially at dusk. Given that it's quick and cheap, an abra ride is a must if you plan on spending any time at all in Old Dubai or visiting the QE2 .

Al Seef Arrow

From its location within the emirate's cultural epicenter, Al Seef marries the city’s heritage with contemporary offerings. The 1.1-mile precinct that hugs the Dubai Creek is split into two areas: one dedicated to the past and another to the future. Meander through the charming laneways, stop and have a coffee or a meal at one of the many restaurants and cafes, or simply sit and watch the activity on the creek from one of the tranquil public spaces.

Ski Dubai Arrow

In the middle of a mall in the desert, the world's third-largest indoor ski slope is a sight to behold. A daily lift ticket will run you about $138 (excluding equipment rentals), while a Snow Daycation pass, which primarily provides access to the non-skiing parts of the mountain like tubing, costs $75 per person, and you should plan to get there early. The place is filled with families with kids, most of whom are taking part in various rides, penguin visits and the Snow Cinema instead of skiing. If you're here to shred, there are two runs and a dedicated freestyle area (but Vail this is not).

At the Top, Burj Khalifa Arrow

The world's tallest building is, unsurprisingly, visible from almost everywhere in Dubai. Taking in the site is thrilling enough from the street, but you can also visit the top of the 160-story behemoth—brace yourself for the thrill of the high-speed elevators, followed by complete awe the moment you step onto the observation deck. Buy tickets online in advance for a specific time slot. Most first-time visitors to Dubai go to the top.

Etihad Museum Arrow

This ultra-modern museum offers a comprehensive look at the formation of the seven Emirates that make up the UAE. It draws a diverse crowd of UAE nationals and history-buff tourists. The museum lies on the site where the country's unification was signed in 1971. The Etihad Museum isn't overwhelming in size or content. Even non-museum lovers will find the exhibitions interesting and crucial to a well-rounded UAE visit.

Dinner in the Sky Arrow

Dinner in the Sky Dubai is no ordinary restaurant—even pulling up a seat at the table requires that you clip a seatbelt. The experience takes place nearly 165 feet in the air, at a table that rotates ever so slowly over the course of an hour. If you can stomach the altitude, you're in for impressive views of the Gulf—and maybe one of the most unusual dining experiences on the planet. Artful Dining by Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and The Westin Dubai are responsible for the menu, which ranges from burrata salads to Middle Eastern mezzes. Even though Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the two largest Emirates making up more than 90% of the UAE, there are still five other Emirates you can visit.

After my most recent trip travelling around all seven Emirates with Rotana Hotels , these are the best places to visit in UAE. If you’re looking for an incredible holiday in the Middle East then make sure you tick off a few of these things!

What to do in UAE

One thing that really bugs me is when people say “I don’t see the point of visiting the UAE, there’s nothing to do there…”

Well, on my first day there I wandered around the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (arguably my favourite mosque in the world), took in Picasso, Pollock and other world-class artists at the Louvre, acted like a big kid and went on all the rides at Warner Bros World before coming back to my hotel for a relaxing massage and an amazing dinner.

Nothing to do there? That was just one day in Abu Dhabi, let along the rest of the UAE!

Let me say this now, the UAE is an incredible place for your holiday. It really does have a little bit of everything (including an indoor ski centre in Dubai!)

So, if you’re thinking of exploring this part of the Middle East, here’s where I recommend what to do in UAE.

Abu Dhabi is the largest Emirate in UAE and it is the official capital too.

It is a city full of superlatives – it is home to the world’s largest hand-woven carpet, the world’s heaviest chandelier, the world’s fastest rollercoaster, the tower with the greatest lean. This is a place that certainly doesn’t mind breaking world records!

I’ve been to Abu Dhabi a couple of times now and I really like it there. The mixture of amazing architecture and high-adrenaline adventure activities in the UAE make it the perfect place to start your trip.

Marvel at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

I think the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is my favourite mosque in the world.

Even though this place is relatively new (it first opened in 2007), it has become a shining light for Abu Dhabi.

The mosque is completely free to enter (men must wear trousers, women must be covered) and is open from 9am till 10pm.

This is where you’ll find the world’s largest handwoven carpet (with a mammoth 2.6 billion knots) and the world’s heaviest chandelier weighing in at 12 tons. For me, this is one of the top places to visit in Abu Dhabi.

Take in the amazing architecture at The Louvre

The Louvre opened its doors in 2017 and it is the sister museum to the one in Paris.

Much like the one in Paris, the Louvre houses some incredible pieces of art from antiquity all the way to the modern day.

However, the building itself is like one giant display showcasing the amazing architecture in Abu Dhabi.

Outside it looks like a futuristic spaceship, but once you get to the main hall it really opens up into this stunning space that blends sharp edges with reflective water features. Just stunning.

Be a big kid again at WB World

This is another place that’s just opened up in Abu Dhabi and is one of the best tourist attractions in UAE.

Opposite Ferrari World (which is home to the world’s fastest rollercoaster), WB World Abu Dhabi is a bit more sedate. Saying that, there are some fantastic rides here and its fun for all ages.

Being a comic book fan, I really enjoyed ‘Gotham City’ which was home to the Batman and Riddler rides, but I also enjoyed ‘Bedrock’ with the Flintstones ride.

Also, WB World is all indoors so this is a great place to head when it gets too hot outside. WB World is one of the new places to visit in UAE and it’s perfect for families too.

Spot dolphins at the Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas

Yes, you really can see dolphins in the UAE!

While I was staying at the Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas, I went for an early morning walk along the beach and I was lucky enough to see dolphins backflipping right in front of my face.

They were literally 10 metres away from me just off the beach and they were putting on quite the show.

This really was one of the highlights of my trip to the UAE – hopefully you’ll see dolphins too. If not, you can always go for a swim!

Where to stay in Abu Dhabi – Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas

Even though Ajman is the smallest of the seven emirates, it packs a big punch.

The beaches are beautiful here with hardly anyone on them, especially compared to those of Dubai. Also, the Corniche is a really popular place where locals like to bbq and have a picnic. Ajman is one of the most historic places in the UAE and it still has a number of customs and traditions there.

Learn about the pearl diving industry

Before the oil boom, pearl diving used to be one of the biggest industries in the UAE.

As the name suggests, this is where people used to dive for oysters to see if they had a valuable pearl inside them. Expeditions used to take weeks, and if a boat came back with a few pearls it was considered a success.

These days the pearl diving industry has changed and the best way of learning about it all is aboard the Ajman Pearl .

This is a tour that takes you around the mangroves of Ajman where you learn all about the history of pearls and how they’re grown.

Not only that, you also have the chance of opening up an oyster to see if there’s a pearl inside. If there is, you get to keep it!

When we cracked one open, nestled under the flesh of the oyster was the biggest pearl I’ve ever seen. I know it sounds set up but the pearl genuinely came from the oyster! No tricks or anything.

If you’re on your honeymoon or are on a romantic holiday then I’d really recommend this activity.

Enjoy lunch by the beach

This is one of the top things to do in Ajman. As I said, the beaches here are absolutely beautiful without any of the people.

While I was travelling in the UAE, we stopped off at the beach in Ajman for lunch and it was bliss. There was only one other family around, otherwise we had the beach to ourselves.

There are several beach huts you can sit in to avoid the sun (it was a tepid 38 degrees when I was there) and it’s very relaxed compared to the hustle and bustle of city life.

Dubai . It is a city that has it all.

From towering skyscrapers to crazy malls with ice rinks in them to beautiful beaches (often with a camel or two walking by!), there really is something for everyone in Dubai.

I’ve been to Dubai a couple of times now and it’s hard not to like the energy of the city. There’s always something going on at a million miles an hour and I love the fast-paced life there – it reminds me a little bit of London in that sense, just very hot!

With that in mind, here are some of the best things to do in Dubai.

Museum of Illusion

The Museum of Illusion in Dubai has just opened up in the summer of 2018 making it one of the newest places to visit in the UAE.

From mind-bending illusions to looking like a giant, this is good ol’ fashioned family fun. I can imagine it’s the perfect place to bring the kids.

They really encourage taking photos here and the staff even took a few so make sure you bring your camera along. Oh, and your sense of humour too!

Eat at Teatro in Towers Rotana

One of the places everyone said we had to eat at was Teatro in Towers Rotana . This is constantly ranked as one of the best restaurants in Dubai and it certainly did not disappoint!

The food is a fusion of east meets west so expect to find things on the menu like wasabi tempura prawns and miso-glazed seabass.

We had the sushi platter and it was delicious. Very authentic with their own sushi master and it was incredibly pretty too. It was food that looked good and tasted even better.

If you’re looking for an amazing place for dinner in Dubai then I’d really recommend Teatro.

Explore Dubai Creek on an abra boat

Here’s a little money saving tip for you. Abra boats are cheapest way of getting around Dubai with a one-way ticket costing just 20p.

Not only are they a cheap way of getting around, they are also great for seeing the city from the water. Also, this is such a traditional mode of transport that it feels very nostalgic too.

The best place to get an abra is near the Old Quarter and on Dubai Creek . The boats are very regular every 10 minutes and some leave before if they’re full. This really is such a good way of sightseeing Dubai!

Take in the skyline from Al Bandar Rotana

I’ll put my hand up right now and say I’m a sucker for a good skyline. Well, in Dubai they have one the world’s best.

I could spend all day roaming around Dubai in search of the best photo spots, but one of my favs is at the top of the Al Bandar Rotana.

Up on the 18 th floor you can grab a cocktail from Gusto Restaurant , sit on the terrace and watch the sunset. Or, if you’re like me, you can take photos of the sunset! Still, this really is one of the best views of Dubai.

Where to stay in Dubai – Al Bandar Rotana or the Towers Rotana Dubai

If you’re wondering where to go in UAE, let me introduce you to Fujairah. At times this place feels like it’s a million miles away from the other Emirates.

Not only do you get gorgeous beaches here, but you also get the Hajar Mountains in the background giving this an otherworldly feel. It wasn’t the Luna landscape of the Atacama Desert in Chile but it wasn’t far off!

If you’re looking for a place to really kick back and relax then there are a number of 5* resorts here.

Also, if diving and snorkeling are your thing then this is where you’ll find it in the UAE.

Here are some of the best tourist places in Fujairah.

Go snorkeling at Snoopy Island

The main place to go snorkeling in Fujairah is Snoopy Island.

This was a short 10-minute boat ride along the coast from where I was staying at the Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa and it’s a really good snorkeling spot.

Snoopy Island is a large rock protruding from the sea and there’s a small reef surrounding this teeming with life.

Unfortunately we didn’t see any turtles but they are really common in the area. But we did see lots of other little fishes and it was a great way to spend an afternoon.

Take in the landscape while parasailing

I always love parasailing wherever I am around the world – it always reminds me of family holidays when I was younger.

So, when I saw you could go parasailing at Fujairah I signed up immediately. It was definitely one of my favourite things to do in the UAE .

One of the best things about going parasailing in Fujairah is the landscapes. You really get to see the Hajar Mountains from high up with the bright blue water glistening below. So much fun!

Where to stay in Fujairah – Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa

Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah is quickly establishing itself as the adventure capital of the UAE. For me, this is up there with the best places in UAE so make sure you add it to your list.

Not only are there activities like jet skiing along the coast and hiking up in the Jebel Jais Mountains, but it is also home to the world’s longest zipline! This is an adventure activity like no other and it is such a rush.

Ras Al Khaimah is also home to a few all-inclusive resorts (bet you didn’t think you’d find them in the UAE!) That means if you’re looking for a proper holiday by the beach and the by the pool then you can’t go wrong with RAK. And yes, you can drink alcohol here. I told you it was surprising!

Ras Al Khaimah is one of the best places to visit from Dubai for people looking for a more relaxed state and a lazier beach holiday.

Take on the world’s longest zipline

Obviously I love my adventure activities and they don’t come much better than this.

So, how long is the world’s longest zipline? It’s 2.8kms where you reach speeds of up to 160kph and it is an adrenaline-pumping 2 minutes flying through the mountains of Jebel Jais.

You fly in the superman position facing forward, and once you reach terminal velocity it’s actually quite relaxing (I really mean that!) Also, it’s a great way to take in the beautiful scenery of the mountains too.

You can book tickets with ToroVerde Ras al Khaimah . We arrived on the day so you don’t need to book in advanced if you don’t want to. This is definitely one of the best new places to visit in UAE that’s for sure!

Enjoy beautiful sunsets at The Cove Rotana Resort

One of the best places you can stay in Ras Al Khaimah is The Cove Rotana Resort .

This is an all-inclusive resort that looks a little like the Santorini of the UAE.

The Cove Rotana Resort is based right on the beach and it has uninterrupted views of the sunset. This really is the best place to watch sunset in the United Arab Emirates.

Also, there’s a little beach bar right on the beach meaning this is the perfect place to be for those sundowner cocktails before a delicious dinner! What I would give to be back on the beach right now…

Exploring the coastline on a jet ski

Jet skiing is another one of those classic beach holiday activities that I love.

While I was staying at The Cove Rotana Resort I picked up a jet ski for the morning and zoomed along the coast.

Every time I go jet skiing these days it’s with my girlfriend on the back and she hates it when I go fast. From the sound of her screams I always push it too far but what can I say, it’s so much fun!

Where to stay in Ras Al Khaimah – The Cove Rotana Resort

Sharjah is seen as the most traditional and cultural of the emirates. This is the only one where drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun here.

UNESCO declared Sharjah as the Cultural Capital of the Arab World in 1998, recognition reaffirmed in 2014 when it became Capital of Islamic Culture, so there’s plenty to see here.

Also, the skyline down by Khalid Lake is among the best you’ll find in the UAE.

When it comes to what to do in the UAE, I really recommend adding Sharjah to the list. It really is very different from the other emirates!

Drink traditional Arabic coffee

If you’ve never had Arabic coffee before then you’ve got to give this a go.

Arabic coffee is very aromatic and is often spiced with cardamom. Unlike other coffee, it is actually a greeny golden colour and is very bitter to drink.

Most of the time coffee is offered to guests when they arrive somewhere new and traditionally it is drunk for a small cup.

A word of warning – if you don’t shake your cup after you’ve finished it then your host will keep on filling it up until you do! Shaking your cup is a sign you don’t want any more coffee and we learned this during a traditional coffee ceremony when we arrived at Centro Sharjah .

Go for a sunset cruise on an abra boat

One of the best places to visit in the UAE is Khalid Lake.

Not only do you get the gorgeous skyline glittering in the water, but you also get to see the old and the new blended together with Al Noor Mosque nestled between the skyscrapers.

By Al Majaz Park there is a boat jetty where you can hire an abra boat to go on a little cruise of the lake.

We came down here at sunset and it was just beautiful – definitely the perfect time of day to see Sharjah and it was a little cooler too.

Where to stay in Sharjah – Centro Sharjah

Umm Al Quwain

If you’re wondering where to go in the UAE then take a look at Umm Al Quwain!

Umm Al Quwain is a tiny emirate wrapped around an island dotted lagoon and it’s really beautiful here.

This place has a bit of a retro feel to it as there aren’t any big international resorts or megamalls like you’ll find in Dubai, but because of that it has a distinct charm.

Across the creek, uninhabited Al Sinniyah Island is a protected marine environment noted for its mangrove swamp and large colony of Socotra cormorants. We also saw flamingos here too which was a nice added bonus!

Go kayaking through the mangroves

One of the best ways of seeing the mangroves up close is in a kayak.

Even though I didn’t see any turtles while kayaking in Um Al Quwain, it is very common to see them in the area. However, I did see flamingos though which was a huge surprise. I never thought there were flamingos in the UAE but I was completely wrong about that.

I went kayaking from UAQ Marine Club which is like an adventure club with loads of activities to choose from. Best thing about this is they’ve got a pool so you can go for a relaxing dip after kayaking.

Hiring a kayak is fairly cheap (100AED, £20) and I’d really recommend this to anyone passing through Um Al Quwain.

My trip to the UAE was in association with Rotana Hotels promoting some of their best hotels in the region. As always, views are entirely my own and without bias.

But it’s also a rapidly growing city with countless new tourist attractions springing up like mushrooms and choosing which places to visit and which ones to skip might look like a daunting task…

So to help you figure out where to go and what to see in Dubai, in this guide we share the  VERY BEST sights and TOP tourist attractions in Dubai that are worth your time the most . In addition, we also include a few fun experiences for those looking to experience Dubai beyond the ‘musts’.

Here are the main landmarks, best sights, and top tourist attractions in Dubai:

1. Burj Khalifa

If there is one place you have to see in Dubai, it’s Burj Khalifa , the tallest building in the world. This iconic skyscraper is the most visited landmark in Dubai.

While you will see Burj Khalifa from all over the city, it’s most impressive when seen from the bottom. So don’t miss that!

In addition, no trip to Dubai would be complete without ascending to the 124th and 125th floors for breathtaking views of the city skyline, coastline, and desert. For an extra price, you can also visit the SKY Level on the 148th floor.

Good to know: Standard tickets include timed-entry access to 124-125th floors. However, even with a dedicated time slot, be prepared to queue for a long time. The SKY Level 124,125, and 148th floors ticket is more expensive, but includes skip-the-line access for the security check and elevator. It also includes access to the lounge with snacks and drinks.

PRO TIP: Whatever option you choose, be sure to book your tickets online in advance or you may not be able to visit at all. If you want to catch the sunset at the top, be sure to book a time slot at least 1.5 hours before the sunset time (just beware that those time slots are also more expensive).

2. Dubai Mall

You might be wondering why in the world we list a shopping mall as one of the must-see places in Dubai… Well, the Dubai Mall is not just a shopping paradise, but a destination in itself. Plus, it’s located right at the Burj Khalifa so you’ll come here anyway.

The largest shopping mall in the world, Dubai Mall has over 1,200 shops, including high-end designer stores and flagship fashion brands. In addition, you can choose from more than 200 restaurants and food outlets. But it’s worth coming here even if you are not interested in shopping and dining.

You can’t miss the gigantic Dubai Aquarium – the centerpiece of the Mall, or you can get a ticket and visit inside. There are also huge waterfalls, a 155 million-year-old dinosaur skeleton, an Olympic-size ice skating rink, a mini-city for kids KidZania , and countless other attractions. You could literally spend several days in here and still not see it all…

TIP: If you want to visit the aquarium, opt for a combo ticket that includes Burj Khalifa + Dubai Aquarium. Otherwise, the aquarium price is really steep for what it is.

3. Dubai Fountain Show

The captivating Dubai Fountain Show can be seen on the Burj Lake right outside the Dubai Mall, at the foot of Burj Khalifa. It’s a mesmerizing water, music, and light show that takes place multiple times a day and is FREE to watch.

The world’s tallest performing fountain, it dances for a few minutes to a selection of different melodies ranging from popular hits to traditional Arabic and classical music.

Good to know: The Dubai Fountain shows run every half an hour from 6 PM to 11 PM. There is also a performance at 1.30 PM, plus at 1 PM on weekdays and 2 PM on weekends.

PRO TIP: If you are looking for something nice to do in Dubai, book a boat ride on Burj Lake during a fountain show . It takes just 30 minutes and is not expensive (definitely for Dubai standards). Everyone in our family really enjoyed it.

4. Old Dubai & Traditional Souks

Dubai has more to offer than its modern landmarks and one of the best places to experience the authentic side of Dubai is its Old Town .

Be sure to visit the historic neighborhood of Al Fahidi (formerly known as Bastakiya), cross Dubai Creek on a traditional  Abra boat , and don’t miss the best traditional markets in Dubai – the Gold Souk and Spice Souk .

To be completely honest, the Al Fahidi neighborhood is not that authentic, but has the feel of an overly nicely restored open-air museum. You can wander through a few picturesque narrow alleyways lined with wind-tower houses, art galleries, and quaint cafes. There are also several tiny museums and some traditional shops selling souvenirs to tourists.

Nevertheless, it’s the best place to catch a glimpse of old Dubai and get a better understanding of the fascinating journey of the fascinating expansion of the UAE in just a few decades. The transformation of a few tiny fishing villages in the desert to the global metropolises of the 21st century is nothing short of remarkable.

PRO TIP:  Visit the old town  with a local guide ! That way, you can be sure to see all the musts but also learn more about the history of Dubai. The tours are very affordable and some also include local food and drinks. We visited the Dubai old town and traditional markets on different occasions, most recently with this highly-rated tour and I can highly recommend it as one of the top experiences in Dubai.

5. Dubai Marina

Surrounded by towering skyscrapers and filled with luxury yachts, Dubai Marina is one of the must-see places where you can experience the glitz and glamour of Dubai.

The best way to explore the area is by taking a leisurely stroll along the promenade known as Marina Walk. It’s almost 3 kilometers long and is lined with upscale restaurants, trendy cafes, and luxury boutiques. If you don’t want to walk the entire length, focus on the area close to Marina Mall or join a guided  e-scooter tour .

For a unique perspective, hop on a luxury yacht cruise – it’s a great and very relaxing way to see some of the most impressive skylines. If you are looking for a more traditional experience, you can also opt for a dhow dinner cruise to admire the dazzling skyline illuminated against the night sky.

There is so much more to do at the Dubai Marina than just enjoy the scenery! You can go  jet skiing , parasailing , zip line across the Marina , or even dine in the sky .

6. Dubai Desert

Dubai has grown into a huge ultra-modern metropolis, but its roots are still in the desert. So no trip would be complete without seeing the Dubai desert. Even if just for the contrast and to get a better understanding of how remarkable the journey of the UAE has been.

Let me be very honest with you – the desert around Dubai is not that impressive, especially if we compare it to places like e.g. Sossusvlei in Namibia or Death Valley in the USA. However, there are many exhilarating desert safari experiences, such as dune bashing in a 4×4 , quad rides , camel riding , hot-air balloon flights , etc. and these are well worth your time.

In addition, most Dubai safari tours include a visit to a desert camp, built in a traditional Bedouin style. Here, you can indulge in Arabian BBQ dinner and taste all kinds of local food, see the national bird of the UAE – the falcon, or get a henna tattoo. In the evenings, you can also see all kinds of traditional performances such as Tanoura dance, belly dancing, or fire shows.

Good to know: There are  many desert tour options and most of them last 4 to 7 hours. The desert camp experience is similar on all evening tours, but be sure to read the tour description to choose the main activity (jeep, quad, camel, etc.) that best aligns with your interests. For example, most desert tours include a very short camel ride (for a picture), but only a few offer a longer camel ride experience.

Our experience:  We have been on two desert tours in Dubai (on different trips) and really enjoyed them both. One of them included dune bashing in a jeep and the other one – camel riding . They both included dinner and other desert camp experiences.

7. Dubai Museum Of The Future

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Museum of the Future is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Dubai. The remarkable building is a must-see, but the museum itself is quite interesting and well worth a few hours of your time.

The museum is very interactive and showcases Dubai’s vision of the future and what it will look like some 50 years from now. They cover all kinds of topics like space travel, artificial intelligence, and robotics, but also climate change, healthcare, spirituality, etc.

PRO TIP:   Reserve tickets for the museum at least a few weeks before your trip. When we traveled, they were sold out for almost 3 weeks, not even to mention being able to pick a time slot that fits your itinerary. Also, if you can, book the first time slot in the morning so that you can enjoy the interactive exhibits before it gets too crowded.

8. Sky Views Observatory & Sky Edge Walk

Sky Views Observatory  offers a great view of Dubai’s Downtown. It’s also one of the best places to admire the iconic Burj Khalifa from a higher angle at a rather close distance.

In addition, you can also walk over a glass-bottom walkway, slide down a transparent tube at the side of the building, or – for an additional fee – do the Sky Edge Walk on an open-air platform on the 52nd floor.

Good to know:  Regular tickets are very affordable and much cheaper than the Burj Khalifa tickets. But if you are not afraid of heights and have some extra time, we highly recommend a ticket that also includes the Edge Walk – it’s one of the most unique things to do in Dubai!

9. Global Village

Global Village Dubai  is one of the most popular attractions in Dubai, popular with locals as well as international visitors. Just as the name suggests, it’s a place where you can experience a wide variety of cultures from all over the world.

With over 90 countries represented, it’s a unique opportunity to get acquainted with different countries, sample traditional foods, or purchase some interesting souvenirs. There are also cultural shows and live performances.

It’s a bit like a big country fair, but very unique because of its global character.

Good to know:  A visit to Global Village is very affordable and  entry tickets  cost just around $6. However, you’ll have to pay extra for most of the rides and attractions inside.

PRO TIP:  Avoid weekends and try to arrive around the opening time (usually around 4 pm, but during Ramadan around 6 pm). Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest.

10. Palm Jumeirah

The Palm Jumeirah  is a man-made palm-tree-shaped island in the Arabian Gulf and connected to the city via tunnels and bridges and tunnels. The Palm is home to upscale residences, luxury hotels, and beachfront resorts, including the famous Atlantis, The Palm .

There are several places of interest to see at the Palm including the best water park in Dubai, Atlantis Aquaventure and Dolphin Bay, Lost Chambers Aquarium, and several luxurious sky pool experiences.

If you just want to catch a glimpse of this remarkable feat of engineering, visit The View at The Palm Observatory . From here, you can enjoy 360° views of the city and the Arabian Gulf, including an elevated view of this unique palm island.

PRO TIP: For the best aerial views and to fully appreciate The Palm, opt for a  sightseeing helicopter tour .

11. Burj Al Arab

Burj Al Arab  is one of the most recognizable symbols of Dubai. The sail-shaped luxury hotel was opened in December 1999 and was the first one in a series of Dubai’s most remarkable landmarks that were built in the 21st century.

One of the world’s most luxurious and most expensive hotels, Burj Al Arab is not only impressive from the outside. Inside, you can admire its lavish interiors and find some extravagant experiences such as its world-famous gold cappuccino.

Good to know: A stay at this hotel will quickly cost you over $1,500 per night. But a tour of the interior is much more affordable. For an additional fee, you can upgrade to the luxury tour to include a visit to the 25th floor (where the Royal Suites are located) and a sip of the gold cappuccino.

12. Souk Madinat Jumeirah

NICE TO SEE

Located just near the Burj Al Arab,  Souk Madinat Jumeirah  is a bustling indoor market that combines traditional Arabian architecture and Middle Eastern charm with modern-day comforts such as air conditioning and meticulously clean facilities.

You will find an array of little shops here selling all kinds of traditional merchandise and souvenirs. There are also bakeries, cafes, and a variety of restaurants.

With small rivers, little bridges, and traditional Arabian architecture, the area feels like a charming little town. You can walk around or take a boat on the picturesque waterways offering nice views of the Burj Al Arab.

Good to know: You can easily combine a visit to the Souk with that of Burj Al Arab. Boat rides can just be booked and paid at the spot.

13. Dubai Frame

The Dubai Frame  is another remarkable landmark that you have to see in Dubai. This colossal picture frame is visible from afar so you can’t really miss it. But it’s also possible to visit it inside.

The 150-meter-high observation deck has a glass-bottomed walkway and also offers panoramic 360° views of both old and new Dubai.

The views are quite nice, but not nearly comparable to those from Burj Khalifa, Sky Views, or the View at The Palm. On the other hand, the structure is absolutely unique and we personally found it worth a visit.

Good to know:  Depending on the season and time of day, it can be very busy here. Be sure to  book tickets online  and if you can, try to visit either early in the morning or in the evening.

14. Miracle Garden

Miracle Garden  is a must-see in Dubai for everyone who loves flowers, colors, and all kinds of quirky displays. From cartoon characters like the Smurfs to gigantic swans and from colorful castles to a life-size A380 Airbus plane – everything here is covered in flowers.

The world’s largest natural flower garden, Dubai Miracle Garden features over 150 million flowers. However, don’t expect a big variety of flowers here. There are not many plants that do well in such a hot and dry climate, so the majority of floral displays are created using petunias.

Good to know:  Buy skip-the-line tickets online and plan an hour or two for a visit. It’s quietest in the morning. However, many people combine a visit here to that of the nearby Global Village, and the latter only opens late in the afternoon, so keep that in mind if you want to visit both attractions on the same day.

15. Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark & Lost Chambers Aquarium

NICE TO SEE (MUST DO if visiting with kids)

Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark is the biggest water park in the world and by far the best one in Dubai. Featuring over 100 water rides and attractions from splash pools to adrenaline-rushing water slides, Aquaventure is great for all ages.

In addition, you can also meet sea lions or swim with dolphins, and enjoy all kinds of water sports. You can visit the Lost Chambers Aquarium which is located at the same place.

This is a must-do if you are visiting Dubai with kids (especially teenagers!), but it’s definitely not just for families.

PRO TIP:  Atlantis Aquaventure tickets are cheaper if booked online, and you can save a bit more if you book at least a week in advance. We recommend  a combo ticket  that includes entry to the Lost Chambers Aquarium. Here you can find more ticket options , including dolphin experiences.

16. AYA Universe

AYA Universe  is one of our family’s favorite places to visit in Dubai. It’s not a must-do, but it’s also a very unique experience that will leave you speechless.

A visit to AYA is like stepping into a series of different fairytale-like worlds, with colorful light displays and captivating high-tech experiences. Some of the rooms reminded us of the beautiful dreamy universe created in Avatar films .

We visited AYA Universe with our teens who are hard to impress, and they loved it. We spent much more time than expected here, wandering through different rooms and simply sitting down and enjoying the moment. It’s such a nice and positive experience. We loved it!

Good to know:  Book your  tickets online and count about 45-60 minutes for a visit. If you want to enjoy it without too many people around, we recommend booking the earliest time slot.

17. Dubai Beaches

Dubai has many beaches and since the temperatures are suitable for swimming the whole year round, you may want to plan to spend some time at the beach. By far the best way to do this is by choosing a hotel that has its own private beach or is located near one of the public beaches.

One of the nicest public beaches in Dubai is Marina Beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence. There is a very nice waterfront area here with tons of cafes and restaurants and lots of hotels. Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach is one of the most popular options here.

We once stayed at Doubletree by Hilton JBR Beach nearby which has its own private beach, but we walked to this area all the time because it was so nice. We had most of our lunches and dinners at Marina Beach unless we were away sightseeing.

Jumeirah Public Beach is another beautiful Dubai beach that is well worth visiting. In addition to white sands and swimming, here you can also enjoy a view of the iconic Burj Al Arab which makes a great backdrop for your vacation pictures. Jumeirah Beach Hotel is a very nice place to stay in this area and all guests enjoy free access to the adjacent Wild Wadi Waterpark.

La Mer Beach further north and closer to the city center is also worth checking out. This area is still developing but already has a nice hip feel. We recently stayed at the Rove La Mer Beach Hotel and really enjoyed it. The location is also great for sightseeing since it’s so close to the downtown area.

More Ideas for Things to Do in Dubai

There is SO MUCH to see and do in Dubai that it’s impossible to cover all those experiences in one article (or visit in one trip). Nevertheless, I want to highlight some additional places and attractions that I think are certainly worth it.

So here are some additional recommendations for fun things to do in Dubai:

• La Perle by Dragone is the #1 show in Dubai. This is a mind-blowing acrobatic show in, on, and above water and in the air. If you enjoy Cirque de Soleil shows, you’ll love this one!
• The Green Planet   is an indoor rainforest with a wide variety of tropical plants, birds, and animals such as sloths, squirrel monkeys, etc. It’s great for families but is enjoyable for all age groups.
• Dubai Butterfly Garden is a great place to see all kinds of colorful butterflies from all over the world. It’s located just next to the earlier-mentioned Miracle Garden so you can easily visit both.
• iFly Dubai is an indoor skydiving center. If you ever wanted to try skydiving but didn’t dare, this is your chance to give it a try in a safe and controlled environment. Our kids loved this!
• Skydiving . If you rather try the real thing, there are quite a few possibilities to go skydiving in Dubai. The views are amazing!
• Skiing and snow experiences . If you want to experience winter in the desert, you can go skiing in Dubai. But that’s not it! They have other snow experiences as well such as a Giant Ball, Bobsled, Tubing Run, and Bump Car to mention a few.
• Water sports , jet skiing , parasailing , etc.
• Theme parks and water parks. There is no shortage of all kinds of theme parks in Dubai. Some of the best include IMG Worlds of Adventure and LEGOLAND Dubai (this one also has a water park). If you are looking for more water parks, check out Wild Wadi as well – it’s a lot smaller than Aquaventure if you want to avoid the big crowds.
• Day trips to the other Emirates. The most popular are day trips to Abu-Dhabi , but you can also visit Al Ain ‘Garden City’ or go on a snorkeling day trip to Fujairah .

And that’s a shame, because this 150-meter tall structure offers some of the best views in Dubai. 6 – The View at The Palm

Regularly finding itself on the front of postcards and Instagram stories, the world-famous and manmade Palm Jumeirah archipelago, constructed to resemble the shape of a palm tree, has long been one of Dubai’s most renowned landmarks.

7 – Sharjah Grand Mosque

Stepping away from the ultra-luxe and diving into the traditional and cultural side of this Arabian metropolis, the Sharjah Grand Mosque is one of Dubai’s most important (not to mention architecturally stunning) historical locales.

This beautiful house of worship was built in 2014 and can accommodate up to 25,000 worshippers at any one time.

30 – The Dubai Mall

Enormous being an understatement, The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping mall by total area, with over 12 million square feet of space (and fittingly located next to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa).

As well as being home to more than 1200 stores, 200 restaurants and cafes, an Olympic-sized ice rink with regular learn-to-skate programs, an indoor aquarium and underwater zoo, a kid’s edutainment center (KidZania), and much more, the mall also offers some incredible views of the Burj Khalifa from its outdoor terraces.

In other words? You could easily spend an entire day (or two) here and still not see everything!

32 – Meydan Racecourse

Home to some of the lushest greenery you’ll find in the region, the futuristic-looking Meydan Racecourse , with room for more than 60,000 eager spectators, is one of Dubai’s most popular local sporting meccas.

As well as being a world-class horse racing venue (most famous for hosting the $30-million Dubai World Cup every March), the racecourse also offers several other activities and amenities, including a golf course, tennis courts, restaurants and cafes (the Winner’s Circle restaurant is all class), and – perhaps most impressively – a luxury hotel.

As you walk in, you can’t miss the giant painting by Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais that depicts the geography of the UAE; while other sections explore the Union’s founding fathers, showcase 3D documentaries about the founding years, and display artifacts like the signed union agreement itself and Sheikh Rashid’s passport.

Not too far away sits the Jumeirah Mosque and the Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Dubai, two very different yet very popular tourist destinations each within walking distance.

36 – Dubai Autodrome

Opened in 2016, Jumeirah Al Naseem is the newest property in the expansive, nearly 100-acre, four-hotel Madinat Jumeirah complex modeled after a traditional Arabian village. It’s also the one closest to the Burj.

Among the 435 rooms, many face the Tom Wright-designed architectural marvel. We stayed in a spacious corner Ocean Suite, which provides a breathtaking panorama from the sprawling L-shaped terrace. Whether lounging on the plush chaise, sinking into the comfortable armchairs or gathering around the dining table under the elegant pergolas, the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah commands your attention, especially in the evenings, when the alfresco space is cooler and the landmark is dramatically illuminated.

For a different vantage point of the Burj, stroll along Madinat Jumeirah’s pristine private beach, stretching more than a mile long and just steps away from Jumeirah Al Naseem. Feeling the soft sand beneath your feet, you can snap photos that capture the essence of Dubai’s coastal allure and architectural ingenuity.

It takes the sand and sea as inspiration for the color palette. The blue-and-tan mosaic-tiled bathrooms provide a refuge at the luxury hotel. Our suite bathroom was outfitted with two separate sinks with stone basins, two wardrobes, a standalone shower with rain and handheld fixtures and an enticing tub in the middle of the oversized space. Plus, it came with convenient amenities like a Dyson hair dryer.

Be on the lookout for gifts from the attentive staff during your stay. In your room one day, you might open beautifully crafted wooden boxes filled with housemade chocolates or desserts that showcase the hotel’s culinary delights. As the day draws to a close, you might find mini bottles of ginger and manuka honey shots — a thoughtful gesture to boost your immune system before a flight.

The Amenities

One perk of staying in a suite or penthouse at the Dubai hotel is access to The Orchid Club Lounge. The sophisticated and tranquil space encourages lingering with plush gray armchairs and sofas. However, you’ll especially want to visit for the complimentary culinary offerings, including afternoon tea service and sundowners with canapés.

We enjoyed starting our quiet morning there with the breakfast buffet, sampling dishes like shakshuka, syrniki (Russian cheese pancakes), aloo bhaji (Indian spiced potatoes), pistachio-stuffed dates and za’atar croissants. The spread also included a tasty array of meats, cheeses and yogurts.

As the Dubai sun heats up, you can find relief with five pools scattered throughout the complex. While the infinity pool on the beach was a popular spot, Jumeirah Al Naseem’s adults-only mosaic pool near Sugarmash restaurant provided a more tranquil respite. It’s discreetly tucked away closer to the luxury hotel and nestled amid verdant gardens designed by famed architect Bill Bensley. In between dips, retreat to the beautiful, Southeast Asian-influenced semi-private areas, like a wooden pergola flanked by black spear-like columns, or an awning that covers two sculptural chairs that resemble Slinkies.

Don’t miss a visit to Talise Spa Madinat Jumeirah , which resides in Jumeirah Al Qasr but is open to all guests in the complex. The 26-spa-villa sanctuary can target your wellness goals, like improving sleep, detoxing and mental well-being. Or simply unwind with a Revitalising Massage (a deep-tissue treatment that employs acupressure and light stretching) and immerse yourself in the serene surroundings with trickling fountains and lush greenery.

Housed at Jumeirah Al Naseem, the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project will be a surefire hit with the kids. But the sanctuary isn’t just an opportunity to snap photos of the fascinating creatures gliding through the water. Established in 2004 as the first nonprofit of its kind in the Middle East, the project has rescued and rehabilitated more than 2,100 hawksbill, green and loggerhead turtles. With a dedicated hotline (800-TURTLE), the project encourages the public to report sick or injured turtles, which then recover in a private aquarium at the Burj. When they’ve regained their strength, the turtles are transferred to the sanctuary’s sea-fed outdoor lagoons before being released back into the gulf.

For more turtle fun, book the turtle tea at the luxury hotel’s Al Mandhar Lounge. The bites feature local ingredients and arrive on a shiny, angular chrome turtle sculpture. Made by Dubai-based French-Tunisian artist Idriss B, it uses recycled and eco-friendly material created on 3D printers. A portion of the proceeds from the tea is donated to the sanctuary.

Choose from more than 50 restaurants and bars.

If you want a more substantial meal, there are endless dining options among Madinat Jumeirah’s 50 restaurants and bars. At Al Naseem, you’ll want to dine at Rockfish, wedged between the beach and a pool. The restaurant focuses on seafood with an Italian slant. Start with the soft locally produced burrata with tomatoes and basil. Then move onto the scallop seamare, fresh hand-dived Norwegian scallops with generous truffle shavings and Jerusalem artichoke.

Also at Jumeirah Al Naseem, be sure to visit Summersalt Beach Club, an alfresco Latin American fusion restaurant. Enjoy light fare like a king crab roll or bluefin and tuna truffle nigiri. The UAE seeks to attract new investment to the tune of Dh100 billion to the tourism sector and welcome 40 million guests to the country's hotels by 2031, a senior government official has said.

Khaled Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, said the country’s tourism sector contributed Dh220 billion to the gross domestic product in 2023, accounting for 11.7 per cent of the overall economy. This upward trend is expected to continue in 2024, with projections indicating the sector will reach Dh236 billion and account for an even greater share of the GDP at 12 per cent. The UAE’s Tourism Strategy seeks to raise the sector's contribution to the country's GDP to Dh450 billion by 2031, said Al Midfa, who led a UAE delegation to the UN Tourism 50th Regional Commission Meeting for the Middle East in Muscat.

Industry experts said the upcoming unified GCC visa would allow member nations to present the region as a connected destination, boosting accessibility and driving KPIs such as length of stay, average spend and employment. Current and future infrastructure will complement the Unified Tourist Visa by enhancing accessibility within and between Gulf nations. In addition to ongoing investment in new and existing airports and cruise terminals, the upcoming GCC Railway will play a central role in facilitating and optimising region-wide access for both domestic and international visitors, they said.

The number of jobs the booming sector creates is expected to reach 833,000 in 2024. There are currently 1,235 hotels in the UAE providing a total of 210,000 rooms.

The World Travel & Tourism Council’s 2024 Economic Impact Research report said jobs supported by the UAE tourism sector grew by 41,000 to reach more than 809,000, representing one in nine jobs in the country. While domestic visitor spending fully recovered in 2022, it continued to grow in 2023 to reach more than Dh 55.5 billon which is almost 40 per cent higher than 2019. International visitor spending surged by almost 40 per cent in 2023 to reach over Dh175 billion, 12 per cent above 2019 levels, reflecting the UAE’s enduring appeal as a top global tourism destination.

Dubai will see the opening of 31 new hotels in 2024, and is expected to add 16 new hotels to the mix. This translates to a cumulative total of 851 by the end of 2024 and 867 by the end of 2025, a new report from Cavendish Maxwell says. Currently, Dubai has 150,291 rooms.

In the first quarter this year, Dubai attracted 5.18 million international visitors. In 2023, Dubai welcomed 17.15 million overnight visitors, surpassing its previous high of 16.73 million in 2019 and the 14.36 million recorded in 2022. Dubai International Airport surpassed pre-pandemic levels of passenger traffic last year, handling 86.9 million passengers. Forecasts suggest that by the end of 2024, this number could reach an estimated 88.8 million, nearing the record high of 89.1 million set in 2018.

According to the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index, the UAE ranked first in Mena and 18th globally in 2024. The UAE raised its score by 4.4 per cent in the 2024 index, climbing seven places from its 25th global ranking in the previous report issued in 2021.

The report ranks 119 economies based on a set of factors, and the index consists of five sub-indices, including the enabling environment, travel and tourism policy and infrastructure, infrastructure and services, travel and tourism resources such as nature and culture, and the sustainability of the travel and tourism sector.

The heart and soul of the city, it's easy to while away the day immersing yourself in memorable activities at Dubai Creek. Follow our itinerary to spend one perfect day at the historic area.

6.30am: Breaking dawn in Deira

Start off your morning at the the saltwater inlet that flows through some of the city's most storied neighbourhoods. For Instagram-worthy views , we recommend heading out at dawn towards the Deira abra station, which is a short walk from the Gold Souk metro stop. If you’re an avid photographer, this is the spot for capturing pristine Dubai moments as a fresh day unfolds. You’ll be equally content to hit pause and watch the sunrise in this tranquil setting, as the waterway fills up with wooden abras and the city slowly awakens.

• Baniyas Rd, Deira, Dubai

8am: Going for gold and Arabian finds

Deira's traditional souks  that specialise in gold, perfume and spices open between 7:30am and 9am, so there's plenty to explore right where you are. Hit the narrow lanes for some early morning shopping – bargains included – as you discover handcrafted jewellery, delightful scents  and baskets brimming with colourful herbs . There’s a good chance you’re feeling peckish by now – if you haven’t had a bite yet, grab a fresh fruit juice from any one of the vendors or cafeterias as you wander around – you’re sure to be amused by the drink varieties and names on the menu. A big breakfast lies ahead on the itinerary, so be sure not to quench your appetite entirely.

• Deira - Dubai

10am: Cross the Creek to Bur Dubai

You could spend a whole, happy day right where you are. But if you’re keen to continue experiencing creekside haunts, make your way back to the waterfront and catch a ride on a traditional abra boat to the Bur Dubai district on the other side of the Creek – the short one-way trip costs just AED1!

10:30: Breakfast at Al Seef

Once you alight at the Bur Dubai abra station, hail a taxi and head east to the lifestyle destination Al Seef. Hugging 1.8km of Dubai Creek’s shoreline, Al Seef celebrates the nation's heritage with plenty of traditional architecture, including stately wind towers and sandstone buildings. To get a real taste of Dubai, consider a leisurely breakfast at Al Seef Heritage Hotel's restaurant, Saba'a. The family-style menu features an elaborate spread in the mornings, complete with authentic Arabian dishes  and Emirati flavours. Well-fed and rested, round up your visit to Al Seef with a stroll along the stunning waterfront and marina, where chic outlets line the promenade and the brilliant white of harboured yachts perfectly complement the native sandy and sea-toned hues.

1:30pm: Walk down memory lane at Al Fahidi

You’re now ready to delve further into the  Dubai of the past . Leave the charm of Al Seef and walk towards Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. Despite the bustling roads around it, you are welcomed by calming wind towers made of stone, gypsum and sandalwood. Choose one of the winding streets to begin discovering over 50 houses, now repurposed as museums, art galleries and cafes, as well as quaint spaces for special events. Eager to learn Emirati culture and customs from the experts? Stop by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU)   to sign up for Arabic classes, heritage tours and guided mosque visits, or make a note to come back for a traditional Emirati meal.

Other must-visit venues here include the Coin Museum, Calligraphy House (Dar Al Khatt) and XVA Gallery Art Hotel & Café . Depending on how long you’ve been wandering around, you may be in the mood for a late lunch or snack. There’s no better stop than the cosy and popular Arabian Tea House , where 150 types of tea and delicious servings of local specialities await.

• Al Fahidi St, Al Souq Al Kabeer, Bur Dubai

4pm: Style yourself at the Textile Souk

You’ve taken in the sights and sounds and got your fill of Dubai’s history, culture and cuisine – now all that’s left is to pick up a few souvenirs  or even adorn yourself in traditional garb. Get a taxi and head back towards the abra station but stop at the Textile Souk, which reopens at 4pm for a busy evening session.

From flowing kaftans to the finest silk scarves, you’ll find all the fabrics and fashions at countless stalls in the marketplace. If you prefer to design an outfit, pick up the material and accessories you fancy and visit any of the skilled tailors  onsite to create your look.

Choose your own adventure

You can decide to end your day with even more cultural glimpses at Al Shindagha Museum  before 7pm. Or enjoy a sundowner on the deck of the Queen Elizabeth 2 – the former flagship of cruise company Cunard is permanently harboured at the nearby, historic Port Rashid. To truly crown your Creek-inspired journey (you’ve earned it), we recommend a dhow cruise – many of which offer dinner experiences aboard a traditional wooden trading ship, and there are no shortage of options to choose from. With live entertainment accompanying a lavish spread, you can sit back, feast and reflect on a day well spent as you glide further inland along the Creek and watch the city come aglow at night.
