Trip overview
- Discover Buenos Aires, Argentina's vibrant and sultry capital. Tour its best sights, then explore its many corners at your leisure, from iconic historical buildings to tucked-away tango venues.
- Join a local guide for an in-depth exploration of the city. Explore both modern and traditional neighbourhoods, visiting Puerto Madero, La Boca, San Telmo and the Recoleta Cemetery.
- Find out what it means to be local when you head to the home of a Buenos Aires resident for a delicious sunset barbecue dinner on their rooftop, where you’ll swap stories and share traditional Argentine food.
- On Short Breaks, you maintain a good level of independence and freedom, with the added bonus of having the details sorted out for you. You’ll have lots of free time and you won’t be accompanied by a Trip Leader. This means that all included activities and tours will be run by different local Intrepid partners, and these may operate independently from each other. The included activities and transfers will operate on a join-in basis, which means that you could have your Adventure all to yourself, or others may join you along the way. If you would prefer to travel in a group with a dedicated Trip Leader, just get in touch with your booking agent and they will take you through some alternatives.
- This trip is operated by one of our local partners in Argentina and therefore you may be joined by a mixture of Intrepid-booked passengers and other travellers during activities.
- Information may be delivered in English and Spanish, or just English depending on the requirements of the group.

Bienvenido! Welcome to Buenos Aires, Argentina’s lively capital city. With an intoxicating mix of Latin soul and European influences, beautiful Buenos Aires is a delight to explore. If you arrive with time to spare, why not head out to see the street murals of San Telmo, or visit Casa Rosada, the office of the president of Argentina. This evening, you may like to take part in an iconic Buenos Aires experience and watch a live tango show. One of the best spots in the city is Cafe Tortoni, an intimate venue that’s been open since 1858. Sit back with a Malbec, perhaps grab some dinner, and watch a passionate performance. Pre-booking is recommended and can be done directly on their website.
There are no meals included on this day.
For your optional airport arrival transfer please provide your flight details at least two weeks before your trip. A Welcome Note, containing all necessary information will be waiting for you at the hotel's reception on Day 1 of your trip.
Rise and shine for a morning of exploring Buenos Aires. A local guide will collect you from your accommodation at 9am this morning, then your first stop is the Plaza de Mayo, the heart of the city and the place it was founded. Continue to Puerto Madero, a slick neighbourhood on the banks of the Rio de la Plata, then head to La Boca to learn of the importance of football in the city and the influence of the immigrant community. Next up is the creative neighbourhood of San Telmo where you’ll learn about the origins of tango, then visit the famous Recoleta Cemetery, where many notable people are buried. Return to your accommodation in the afternoon and enjoy some free time for your own discoveries. In the late afternoon/early evening head down to the hotel lobby where a transfer will be waiting to take you to dinner. Travel to the home of a Porteno (a resident of Buenos Aires) for a delicious barbecue dinner on their rooftop. Take in incredible views of the city and watch the sun go down while you chat to your friendly hosts and gain insight into everyday life in Buenos Aires. Tuck into classic dishes like provoleta, chimichurri, chocotorta and plenty of Argentine wine. The exact dinner timing will be provided in your welcome note.
- Buenos Aires - Rooftop Asado BBQ dinner
- Buenos Aires - Half-day guided tour
Your Buenos Aires adventure comes to an end after breakfast this morning. If you’re staying on in the city, there are plenty of galleries, museums and historic buildings to keep you entertained. The Museo Evita is dedicated to the life (and gowns) of former First Lady Eva Peron. MALBA is an incredible art gallery showcasing a private collection, including works by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and great temporary exhibits.
- Buenos Aires - Tigre Delta day trip - USD70
For your optional departure transfer the pick-up times are: 4 hours before departure time for Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) and 3 hours before departure time for Jorge Newbery Airfield (AEP). These advanced departure times have been set to mitigate most risks of last minute strikes, protests, road blockades, pickets, etc. which unfortunately are a constant of life in Argentina at the moment.

Buenos Aires is inarguably the most popular destination in the nation, while many of us dream of visiting the magic of Patagonia. While Patagonia is one of the last places on Earth you should be worried about your drink being spiked, numerous bars and nightclubs are scattered throughout Buenos Aires, a vast city home to over 17 million people.

06/28/19 12:47 PM. 7998 posts. Taxis are not expensive in Buenos Aires. Once you are in the city center, you can use the subway to get around, but not from the airport. Use Kayak to find a hotel downtown. Palermo is the nicest area, but it is away from the city center. Posted by 1885BD.

Buenos Aires is a great city to visit, but I also want to put a plug in for Salta which is in the northwest. It has a different feel than Buenos Aires and was a nice contrast (it's also very walkable). I would also highly recommend seeing Iguazu Falls. Given the large distances between these places, I had to take internal flights to each.
