2024 BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE with Requirements, Sample Itinerary & Budget

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double-check with the concerned establishments for the latest updates.

Any conversation about tourism in the Philippines feels incomplete without at least a mention of Boracay . After all, it is undoubtedly the country’s most popular destination, topping various publications’ lists of best islands not just in Asia but in the world.

This massive attention transformed what used to be a quiet village into a developed — or in the eyes of some, overdeveloped — tourist destination. Resorts of all shapes, sizes and classes have sprouted along its shining coast. Lanes of restaurants and shops mushroomed along its streets and alleys. And two airports have been built to serve the growing number of locals and visitors coming in and out of the island.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING BORACAY

It’s easy to see why Boracay has been enchanting millions of tourists a year. Even for non-believers, its sheer natural beauty will smack you in the face as soon as you set foot in the island’s biggest asset — White Beach . This sparkling picture-perfect strip must be what paradise is made of. We’ve been to countless other beaches around the world, but only few could rival Boracay’s shimmering sand.

Boracay Sand

Boracay’s development has also made it a destination for everyone. Whether you’re a budget backpacker or a luxury traveler, young or old, solo or on a honeymoon, with friends or with family, you’ll find something to fall in love with here. Plus, most conveniences that we enjoy in the city can also be found here.

Boracay Island is part of the Municipality of Malay , which is a part of the Province of Aklan, which is a part of Panay Island. Caticlan, the barangay on the mainland closest to Boracay, serves as the gateway to the island. Both the Caticlan Airport and the Caticlan Jetty Port are located here.

Here are more bits about Boracay.

  • Location: Boracay is within the municipality of Malay, province of Aklan in the Philippines. Mainland Aklan is part of Panay Island.
  • Languages: Aklanon and Ati are the native languages. But locals, especially those working in the tourism industry, can fluently speak and understand Tagalog and English.
  • Time Zone: UTC+8 (Philippine Standard Time). The Philippines is in the same time zone as Singapore and Beijing, one hour ahead of Thailand, and one hour behind Japan.
  • Currency: Philippine peso (PHP, ₱). PHP100 is around USD 1.81, EUR 1.66, SGD 2.45 (as of July 2023).
  • Modes of payment: CASH, primarily. Some establishments accept credit cards, but most smaller stores and eateries accept only cash or GCash.

BORACAY TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Because Boracay is visited by millions of tourists, the local government is monitoring and regulating the entry of visitors. Here are the requirements that you’ll need to prepare and present upon entry.

  • Tourist Arrival Form. To be accomplished upon arrival at the Caticlan Jetty Port. I also found this online form , but in my experience, even if you accomplish this, a physical form will still be filled out on site, which makes the online form pointless.
  • Valid ID. For Filipinos, any valid ID will do. For foreigners, passport.

A confirmed hotel or resort booking is no longer required, but it remains HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Boracay has a list of accredited resorts, hotels, inns, and guesthouses. To see the complete list, check out: LIST OF ACCREDITED BORACAY RESORTS AND HOTELS! ✅

But given the sheer number of lodging options in Boracay, where is the best place to stay?

WHERE TO STAY IN BORACAY

When looking for a place to stay in Boracay, it is important to be familiar with its geography. Boracay is a bone-shaped island politically divided into three barangays (villages): Balabag, Manoc-Manoc, and Yapak. Manoc-Manoc is the southernmost barangay, where the jetties are located. You’ll be encountering the names of these barangays when checking out accommodations online. But for tourism purposes, it’ll be easier to split the island not by barangay but by beach.

Boracay Island Map

Most people who haven’t been to Boracay are under the impression that it has only one beach because most media features focus on its main stretch — White Beach. And while it is the longest and most popular, it is not the only strip of sand here. The island is hemmed by over a dozen beaches!

White Beach Boracay

White Beach , the busiest, most crowded, and the most stunning beach on the island. This has the highest concentration of accommodations. It is also the longest beach, split into three boat stations:

  • Station 1 is the northern section of White Beach, in Barangay Balabag. It is the quietest of the three stations and what many regard as the most beautiful, thanks to its wide bed of white sand. It’s also where you’ll find the iconic Willy’s Rock (grotto). However, while there are a few budget-friendly options, most resorts here are on the more upscale end of the spectrum.
  • Station 2 is the epicenter of all the action in Boracay. It is the busiest part of the island, where you’ll find the greatest concentration of lodging, dining, and shopping establishments including D’Mall, arguably the most visited area here. It’s also the most accessible and most connected part of the island. The catch is, it’s loud, crowded and always abuzz with activities.
  • Station 3 is tucked in the southernmost end of White Beach. Because the sand here is narrower and steeper, it is not as popular or as crowded as Station 2, but it is still pretty accessible. The area is also brimming with more affordable inns, hostels, and guesthouses.

Aside from White Beach, you’ll also find other accommodations in other parts of the island.

Boracay Island Station Zero

  • Station 0 is not part of White Beach. It is the nickname given to Punta Bunga Beach, a cove shared by Shangri-La Boracay, Crimson Resort and Spa, and Movenpick Resort and Spa. These are all high-end resorts, which means only a few guests have access to the place. Prices per night at these resorts range from PHP 11,000 for a room to PHP 30,000 for suites to PHP 70,000 for super posh villas.
  • Diniwid Beach is a short patch of sand north of White Beach, separated only by a promontory. Although seemingly isolated, there is a cemented walking trail along the beach that connects Diniwid to White Beach. Some of the establishments you’ll find here are Microtel by Wyndham and Dinibeach Bar & Restaurant.
  • Banyugan Beach serves as the private cove of Shangri-La Boracay. Yes, Shangri-la has access to two coves.
  • Boracay Newcoast is a 150-hectare township-style property occupying the northeastern edges of the island, between Lapuz-Lapuz Beach and Ilig-iligan Beach. Located here are Savoy Hotel and Belmont Hotel, among others. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet away from the crowd, it’s something to consider. It’s not the most accessible, but the hotels here provide free shuttle service to White Beach.
  • Bulabog Beach is another long stretch hugging the eastern side of the island, almost parallel to White Beach. The sand here isn’t fine, but it is also very accessible and is most well-known as the jump off point for many exciting water activities and great for sunrise watching.

If you’re on a budget, another place to consider is the inland area between White Beach and Bulabog Beach. You’ll find many pleasant guesthouses and apartments for rent here like Dakong Amihan and Villa D’enghien.

Best Neighborhood to Stay

Boracay Station 1

What’s best depends on why you’re in Boracay in the first place and how much you’re willing to shell out for accommodations. We wrote a more detailed comparison of each area here: BEST AREA TO STAY IN BORACAY!

But here’s a quick summary:

  • If it’s your first time, any of White Beach’s three stations is ideal. This will give you easy access to everything.
  • If you’re on a budget, try looking for affordable places to stay in Station 3 and in inland areas. Beachfront properties tend to be much more expensive. The border between Stations 1 and 2 have a number of relatively cheap backpacking hostels, too.
  • If you’re after peace and quiet or you’re celebrating a special occasion, Boracay New Coast and Diniwid Beach may be worth a look.

I personally prefer White Beach Station 1 because it is the quietest but still very accessible. But Stations 2 and 3 are also good and have more pocket-friendly options.

IMPORTANT! If you wish to stay in Boracay, NO BOOKING, NO ENTRY. You must show proof of booking or reservation with any of the accredited hotels.

HOW TO GET TO BORACAY

All tourists traveling to Boracay must pass through Caticlan, a barangay in mainland Aklan. It has two ports that passengers may use to get to the island, depending on the season: Caticlan Jetty Port and Tabon Port . You don’t need to worry about it because they are not too far apart and every driver in Caticlan knows which port is operational at any given time.

Caticlan Jetty Port Boracay

The first step to reach Boracay is to make your way to Caticlan. You have several options.

  • By plane, via Caticlan Airport
  • By plane, via Kalibo Airport
  • By ferry, via 2GO Travel

The island is served by two airports: Kalibo International Airport (KLO) , which involves around 2 hours of travel time; and Caticlan International Airport (MPH) aka Boracay Airport , which is just 15 minutes away from either sea port. All major airline in the country flies to both airports, but Caticlan offers more options from morning to evening.

Hence, if you’re coming from Manila, the fastest and easiest way to Boracay is by flying to Caticlan Airport.

Boracay Caticlan Airport Arrivals Terminal

But if budget is limited and you have a lot of time, you may take an overnight ferry from Batangas Port to Caticlan, too.

Caticlan to Boracay

Caticlan Airport to Boracay Tricycle Terminal

If flying to Caticlan, you will deplane at the Arrivals Terminal located on the other end and on the other side of the runway, far from the Departures Terminal. After collecting your luggage, exit the terminal building and book a tricycle to Caticlan Jetty Port or Tabon Port. The driver knows which port to go to. We have a more detailed transfer guide here: Caticlan Airport to Boracay .

  • Fare: PHP 150 per tricycle, maximum of 2 passengers or PHP 75 per person.
  • Travel time: 10 minutes.

It doesn’t need to be a tricycle ride. If you want a more comfortable, hassle-free experience, consider booking a packaged transfer service. Aside from the air-conditioned van transfer from Caticlan Airport to the jetty port, you will also be assisted through the port processes and the driver can help you with your luggage. The price already includes the van airport transfer, boat crossing, and multi-cab hotel transfer.

✅ CHECK TRANSFER PACKAGE RATES HERE!

Van Transfer Boracay to Caticlan Port

If you’d rather travel on your own, upon arrival at the jetty port, enter the building and follow these steps:

  • Find the Documents Check counter and fill out the Tourist Arrival Form. Only one per group is needed to queue up and accomplish the form. But the staff will check the IDs of ALL passengers and hotel booking. The number of passengers must match the number of guests in the hotel booking. Once cleared, you’ll be given a slip.
  • Pay the fees. Here are the current rates: – Terminal Fee: Regular, PHP 150; Seniors/PWD/Student, PHP 120; Kids 5yo and below, FREE – Environmental Fee: Local, PHP 150; Foreigner, PHP 300 – Boat Fee: PHP 50 For a regular domestic tourist, the total amounts to P350, one-way.
  • Proceed to the Boarding Area. You’ll need to fill out the form on the boat stub. Once accomplished, exchange the boat stub with a boat seat number.
  • Board your assigned boat and find your seat. The ride to the island should not take more than 20 minutes. Depending on the season and the weather, the boat will land at either Cagban Port or Tambisaan Port. The process is the same regardless.
  • Ride an e-Trike or multi-cab to your hotel. The fare depends on the location of your hotel. – e-Trike fare: If shared, PHP 15-50 per person. If special/chartered trip, PHP 100-400 per e-trike. You’ll find the full fare matrix for e-trikes below. – Multi-cab fare: PHP 250 to Station 2 per vehicle, maximum of 10 pax.

Kalibo Airport to Boracay

Bus and Van Service from Kalibo to Caticlan Port

If you’re coming in via Kalibo, the first step is to make it to Caticlan Jetty Port, and from there, the process is the same. Here are your options to get from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan:

  • OPTION A: LOCAL BUS. Take a tricycle to the bus terminal and board a Ceres bus bound for Caticlan. Fare: PHP 147. This is the cheapest way to reach Caticlan from Kalibo. Once at Caticlan Jetty Port, follow the steps at the previous section (Caticlan to Boracay).
  • OPTION B: TOURIST BUS/VAN. Look for “non-packaged” vans or buses that can take you directly to Caticlan Jetty Port. Fare should be only around P250. Travel time: around 2 hours. Once at Caticlan Jetty Port, follow the steps at Caticlan to Boracay section above.
  • OPTION C: PACKAGED BUS/VAN TRANSFER SERVICE. If, for whatever reason, you don’t want to do the transfers on your own, a good option is to book a packaged transfer service. Aside from the comfortable transfer from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan, the price also covers the boat crossing, terminal fee, environmental fee and HOTEL transfer. You will also be assisted through the sometimes confusing process at the jetty port. This is great for those traveling to Boracay for the first time and traveling with kids, PWDs, or elderly. You can book them on Klook, too.

Below are where you can book packaged bus/van transfer services.

Manila to Boracay by 2GO Ferry

If you don’t like flying or the airfare is too much, you can also travel by sea. Caticlan is also the gateway to Boracay for those traveling by ferry. However, there is no direct ferry from Manila to Caticlan. Instead, you’d need to make your way to Batangas Port first.

2GO Travel has overnight sailings from Batangas to Caticlan every day. The ferry leaves Batangas Port at 9pm and arrives in Caticlan at either 8am or 11am, depending on your chosen route. Some sailings involve a stop in Odiangan, Romblon, but others go directly to Caticlan.

  • Departure: 9:00 PM
  • Arrival: 8:00 AM or 11:00 AM (the next day)
  • Travel time: 11-14 hours (overnight)

We created a video showing the entire ferry process on our YouTube channel . You can also watch it below.

HOW TO GET AROUND

Boracay E-Trike

The e-tricycle or e-trike is the primary mode of transportation around the island. Most tricycles have fixed routes and will pick up or drop off passengers along the way, UNLESS you charter the entire vehicle for a “special” trip. A special trip means you’ll have the entire vehicle to yourself.

Here’s the approved e-trike fare matrix:

Boracay E-Trike Fare

If you’re on a budget, be willing to share the tricycle with other passengers. Tell the driver “individual” and they’ll know you’re not arranging a private ride. Fare should be between PHP 15 and 20, depending on the distance.

That said, if you’ll be an inconvenience to other passengers — e.g. you’re soaking wet from swimming or you have a big luggage in tow — just charter a special trip.

You may also arrange an e-trike tour of the island. Although drivers usually have a suggested itinerary, it is completely up to you. Rate is per hour, anyway. However, for island tours, only 4 pax are allowed per vehicle.

Here are the details.

Fare: P500/hour (per vehicle) Maximum of 4 pax per e-trike

Usual Stops:

  • Diniwid Beach
  • Bulabog Beach
  • Ilig-iligan Beach

By Hop-On Hop Off (HOHO)

Boracay Hop-On Hop-Off Shuttle

Boracay now has a Hop-On Hop Off (HOHO) service, operated by Southwest Tours in partnership with Top.ph. The HOHO uses air-conditioned shuttle or mini-bus units with CCTV cameras and wi-fi. It runs from Tambisaan and Cagban ports on the southern edge of the island all the way to Puka Beach in the north, making stops in Stations 1 to 3 and even Newcoast along the way. Here are the stops.

Boracay Hop On Hop Off Stops

  • Fare: PHP 13-32, depending on distance/stop.
  • Schedule: Ideally, there’s a mini-bus at any given stop every 15 minutes, from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Only cashless transactions are accepted, so you need to purchase a HOHO QR Pass before using the service. But if you feel like you’ll be using it multiple times a day, consider getting a 1-Day HOHO Unlimited Pass Card. It normally costs PHP 200, but you can get a discount if you book with Klook.

THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY

Boracay may be a small island but it is packed with natural attractions and exciting activities that travelers of all ages could enjoy. In this post, we’ll enumerate these briefly, but if you want a more detailed description of each tourist spot, you may check out our dedicated post about it: THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY .

White Beach

Boracay Station 1 Paraw

Boracay’s greatest treasure. This shining, shimmering, splendid beach is perhaps the first to come to mind when we think of Boracay. It is the island’s longest beach, measuring about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles), lined with picture-perfect coconut trees. Its biggest asset is its fine, white sand, something only a few can rival or come close to. Here are some of the activities you could enjoy at Boracay’s White Beach:

  • Swim and laze on the sand , of course.
  • Check out Willy’s Rock , the island’s iconic grotto.
  • Watch the sunset . White Beach faces west, so it’s a magnificent sunset spot.
  • Standup paddle . Rates: 30-Minute, PHP 500; 1-Hour, PHP 700. Book here!
  • Crystal kayak . Rates: PHP 250/person for 15-20 minutes.

Although crystal kayak is available at White Beach, you could enjoy it for a much lower fare at other beaches like Puka Beach.

And because White Beach faces west, it’s also a fantastic sunset watching spot! Boracay displays some of the most gorgeous sunsets in the world. No wonder a lot of tourists come waiting for it on the beach every single day.

Photo and Video Session

Friends Jump Shot in Boracay

Boracay is a fantastic place to capture wonderful moments and immortalize them in photos or videos. And now, you can easily hire a professional for a 2-hour photo/video shoot at any Station along White Beach! The bright turquoise waters in the background will make each shot breathtaking. Great for couples, families, and friends (barkada)!

Island Hopping

One of the most popular activities in Boracay. Most of the island hopping packages offered are on group tour basis — meaning, you’ll be sharing a big boat with other tourists as you visit other beaches and snorkeling sites. You’ll be following a strict itinerary that you must follow, around 40-60 minutes per stop.

Tours usually start and end at Station 1 and/or Station 3. Operators also use almost identical itineraries, with only a couple of variations, usually the lunch stop and the snorkeling site. Here are the common stops and the corresponding entrance fees:

Boracay Island Hopping Itinerary

  • Puka Beach , no entrance fee
  • Snorkeling Site , PHP 45
  • Crystal Cove , PHP 300
  • Magic Island (not all tours), PHP 250

Price: PHP 800-900 per person , inclusive of buffet lunch and sometimes, use of mask. However, this does not include entrance fees and snorkeling fee.

Jump off point : Station 1 or Station 3

If it’s your first time in Boracay, go ahead and join an island hopping tour. But to be honest, if you’ve tried island hopping in other Philippine destinations like Palawan, Bohol, or Cebu, you might get a bit underwhelmed. Boracay’s key assets are within the main island itself, not so much in the smaller isles surrounding it.

tour package boracay itinerary

Land Tour (e-Trike or Multicab)

Another way to explore Boracay is by land. For this, you need to charter an e-trike, which costs P500 per hour (approved tariff). For an island tour, an e-trike driver is only allowed to accommodate up to 4 passengers per vehicle.

If you’re part of a bigger group, instead of hiring multiple e-trikes, consider a multi-cab instead. This was what we did on our most recent trip. A multi-cab is allowed up to 10 passengers. At P700 per hour, this ends up much cheaper and efficient.

  • E-Trike Tour PHP 500/hour Maximum of 4 pax
  • Multi-cab Tour PHP 700/hour Maximum of 10 pax

Just hail an e-trike or multi-cab at any time and tell the driver you’re interested in an island tour. Or if you’d rather have a tour arranged beforehand, here’s the contact number of the drivers we booked when we were in Boracay:

  • E-trike: Kuya Ambro +63 943 1304164
  • Multi-cab: Kuya Bong +63 939 823 8198

Unlike island hopping which has a fixed itinerary, on an e-trike or multi-cab tour, you have total control of the stops and duration. The driver usually has a suggested route, but it is completely up to you. Here are the usual stops:

Boracay Land Tour Itinerary

  • Lugutan Mangrove Park
  • Sinagpa Beach
  • Cujo’s Keyhole

None of these sites charge an entrance fee. For Lugutan Mangrove Park, however, you must register first before setting foot into the site.

As you walk across this open-air mall, you’ll be tempted by stores selling all sorts of “essentials” from souvenirs to swimming gear, and a smorgasbord of iconic snacks, from Mango Halo to Coco Mama.

One thing Boracay has that many other beach destinations in the Philippines don’t is vibrant nightlife. While it’s no longer as wild as the pre-2018 era, it’s still quite fun; thanks to its roster of party places, many of which are beachfront.

Boracay Nightlife

Some of the most popular bars and clubs are:

  • Paraw Beach Club
  • Summer Place
  • Two Brown Boys. Get 5% OFF here!

Our favorite drinking spot is Two Brown Boys , located along an inner alley near D’Mall (on the other side of the main road). It’s an island institution whipping out servings of its signature cocktails alongside giant burgers.

WHERE TO EAT IN BORACAY

Boracay Two Seasons Four Cheese Pizza

If there’s one reason I love coming back to Boracay — other than the beach itself — it’s absolutely the food. While the island doesn’t have a globally revered traditional cuisine, it is bursting at the seams with reputable restaurants and food spots. Whatever you’re craving, you’ll probably find it in the island: Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Indian, East Asian, Middle Eastern, and of course, Filipino food.

We wrote a separate, more comprehensive article describing some of the most popular restaurants in the island that we were able to try. READ: BORACAY TOP RESTAURANTS !

Boracay Ice Desserts

Boracay is also known for its iconic desserts and snacks, including:

  • Ice Flakes . Our favorite! Order the mango or coconut bowls. Get 10% OFF here! ✅
  • Halo Mango . Order mango ice cup (P250), crushed ice topped with real mango chunks and mango soft serve.
  • Jonah’s Fruit Shake . Has several stores along White Beach.

  • Ube Mama . Ube ice cream with ube pudding strands and palitaw balls, crowned with cornflakes.
  • Real Coffee and Tea . Try its calamansi muffins (P70 apiece).

Admittedly, however, most of the well-known Boracay restaurants are on the expensive side. But it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find budget eateries. We created a dedicated post enumerating affordable food spots in the island. READ: BORACAY AFFORDABLE RESTAURANTS!

To compare, let’s use the Big Mac Index. In Boracay, the price of a Big Mac (solo) at McDonald’s is PHP 188 , which is PHP 17 costlier than the price in Manila and PHP 33 higher than in Batangas.

Same with Andok’s whole chicken, which costs PHP 405 in Boracay but only PHP 365 in many other places in the Philippines.

BORACAY BEACH SAFETY & RULES

Authorities strictly implement a number of policies throughout White Beach, including:

  • NO drinking of alcohol
  • NO illegal drugs
  • NO littering
  • NO loud music
  • NO fire dancing
  • NO pitching of umbrella
  • NO beach beds/chairs
  • NO taking home of sand

Safety first, so don’t dismiss the warning flags that are raised at specific spots along the beach. Here’s what each color means:

Boracay Beach Flag Warnings

The itinerary above will cost you a minimum of PHP 3490 (USD 63, EUR 57.75, SGD 85) , excluding flights and hotel.

But please add plenty of allowance to accommodate any price adjustments and other possible incidental expenses. I recommend allocating at least PHP 3,990 (USD 72, EUR 66, SGD 97) for this itinerary.

If you’re able to snag a room with daily breakfast for PHP 1500/night/person, prepare a total of PHP 6990 (USD 126.20, EUR 115.60, SGD 169.60) , excluding airfare.

You can still reduce the costs further if you skip the island hopping altogether and have a full-day land tour instead on DAY 2.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the best time to visit boracay.

November to May is the best time to visit Boracay.

tour package boracay itinerary

Weather-wise, the months of February to May are the driest, which means there’s very little chance that unexpected showers would ruin your itinerary. However, it is also considered high season (peaking during Holy Week), so prepare to share the island with thousands of tourists!

Boracay Algae

The April-June period is also the peak of algal bloom at White Beach. In these months, the waters near the shore are covered by algae. Based on our most recent visits, March is when the algae is starting to make an appearance although not yet noticeable. It’s totally inescapable in April and May. By early July, the algae should be gone.

Is Boracay safe?

Yes, Boracay is generally safe.

Like many touristy destinations, there are overcharging practices here and there, but scams are not as rampant as in other beach destinations in Southeast Asia. It’s also best to keep an eye on your belongings and don’t leave them just anywhere.

Again, take note of these emergency contact numbers:

What type of power plug / socket is used in Boracay?

Electricity Info: 220V, 60Hz. Plug and socket Type A.

tour package boracay itinerary

What is the tipping custom in Boracay?

Just like in other places in the Philippines, tipping is NOT mandatory in Boracay. Restaurant bills usually include a service charge but it does not always go to the servers.

If you enjoyed the service, feel free to tip. A tip of 5-10% of the bill is generally well-appreciated.

Are there ATMs in Boracay?

There are also money changers and Western Union branches throughout the same area.

Are drones allowed in Boracay?

Example: This special permit is granted to Yosh Dimen to use his drone only at the front beach on June 15 and 17, from 6am to 6pm only.

The last time we checked, permit fee was PHP 1300 per day. It’s a bit steep, but you know what’s steeper? Fines. If you’re caught flying your drone without a permit, you’ll be fined around double the permit fee.

Only a limited number of drone permits are issued per day.

How to get back from Boracay to Caticlan Airport?

Boracay Night Boat

It’s easy. Just trace your steps back:

  • Ride an e-trike to either Tambisaan or Cagban Port , whichever is operational at the time. If you’re coming from Station 2, it should be PHP 150 for a private ride.
  • At the port, pay the terminal fee and boat fare , which cost PHP 150 and PHP 50 respectively. You’ll be given a boat card with a seat number.
  • Board the assigned boat and find your seat on board . Travel time is 20 minutes.
  • At Caticlan Jetty Port, find the tricycle terminal and ride one to Caticlan Airport . It should take just 2-3 minutes because the airport’s departure terminal is very close. If you don’t have heavy luggage in tow, you could even travel on foot to get there.

It just gets more complicated at night. If your flight is scheduled in the late evening or early morning, expect to wait longer at the Cagban/Tambisaan Port. Within these hours, boats to the mainland are few and far between. Below was the timetable when we visited in July 2023. This may have changed already.

Boracay Night Boat Schedule

That said, if there are enough passengers, the boat will leave as soon as it is full.

Bottom line, add plenty of time allowance when traveling back to the mainland at night.

2024 BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE (ITINERARY + BUDGET)

by thepinay solobackpacker | Mar 9, 2024 | Aklan , Boracay , Itinerary , Philippines , Travel Guide | 0 comments

Detailed Boracay travel guide with DIY Boracay itinerary with budget including places to see in Boracay.

The sun-drenched Boracay has brazenly succumbed to tourism. It placed the Philippines on the tourists’ radar because of its impeccable palm-fringed, powdery, white shore cuddled by turquoise, warm sea.  But there’s more to Boracay than its world-famous White Beach, the island is also packed water sports activities, beach parties, good food and fruit shakes, and friendly locals to boot.

TRAVEL BLOG CONTENTS

BORACAY PRE-TRAVEL GUIDE

About boracay.

The influx of tourists in Boracay started sometime in 1970’s, when the it was used as filming locations of the US movies Nam’s Angels and Too Late Hero.  After that, in 1978, German Writer Jens Peter mentioned Boracay as paradise on Earth in his book about the Philippines. Since then, foreign backpackers started to travel to Boracay and it quickly became a budget beach destination. Back in the days, Boracay is just one of the unfamiliar places in the province of Aklan, in the Philippines inhabited by the Ati and Tumandok, the indigenous people of Panay Island who thrive on coconut farming, fishing, and goat raising.

Sadly, as Boracay quickly became one of the world’s best beach destination and developed as a prime tourist destination, the Ati and Tumandok people, the original inhabitants of the island, were displaced on a mere 2.1 hectare walled community. Dexter Condez, the spokesperson of the Boracay Ati Tribal Organization (BATO) was gunned down, and the suspect is a security guard of a popular hotel chain. BATO, accused the management of the hotel and 2 other nearby resorts as allegedly interested in the lot occupied by the Ati people. The hotel strongly denied any involvement in the murder.

It is unfortunate that despite being the original residents of Boracay, the Ati and Tumandok people seem to have lost their rights and place in the island. Over the years, only a few of them work in hotels and restaurants around Boracay, when they should be the first ones benefitting from the influx of tourists there. I have visited other ASEAN countries, and I’ve seen how proud they are of their culture. They found a way to somehow preserve, integrate, and showcase their local culture and the way of life of the indigenous people to help educate visitors. Hopefully, in the near future, tourism in Boracay can create better economic opportunities for the Ati and Tumandok, after all, the island is originally their ancestral territory.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BORACAY?

BORACAY ITINERARY: OFF-PEAK SEASON IN BORACAY

Boracay is a tropical beach destination, its peak season is around late March to May, the summer months in the Philippines. But take note that since it is the peak season, expect the prices of flights and hotels to skyrocket. Also, there are lots of tourists during the summer.  If you want to travel with less tourist, best time to visit Boracay is around January to early March, before the peak season.  August to November is low season, due to the rainy season and typhoons in the Philippines, but prices can be pretty low during this season, so if you want to save on flights and hotels, you can try visiting Boracay at your own risk during this season. Best to check the weather updates before your trip though.

BORACAY WI-FI

While most accommodations, cafes, and restaurants in Boracay offer free internet, having your own pocket Wi-Fi is still recommended. You can connect securely online when you have your own Wi-Fi and you can stay connected online even outside the confines of your resort or hotel.

PHILIPPINES POCKET WI-FI: RENT HERE

Boracay atm.

There are a handful of ATMs in Boracay (BDO, BPI, and Metrobank) and money exchange centers. Best to stack up on cash when in the island because almost everything is on a cash basis. Some establishments and hotels accept major credit cards.

BORACAY DRONE

Is drone allowed in Boracay? NO.  I was told they no longer allow flying drone for personal use.  As for business use, you need to secure a permit at the Municipal Mayor’s Office, fees may apply.

BORACAY SAFETY:

Is it safe to travel to Boracay? Yes, of course. Boracay is a tourist-friendly place and has been receiving tourists from around the world since time immemorial.  Locals here are easy going and pretty friendly.  But you have to understand that lately, due to the pandemic, which led to unemployment and closure of many businesses around the island, many locals are desperate to earn a living, so, please forgive some touts if they can be quite persistent to sell you tours or souvenirs. Thing is, Boracay is heavily dependent on tourism, that’s why the suffered a major blow when Covid-19 struck the world in 2020, because of the travel restrictions imposed by many countries. But overall, Boracay is still a great and safe destination to visit and enjoy, if you are looking to travel soon. It is also safe for solo female travelers, but I’d still recommend visiting in groups since it’s a beach destination that you’d cherish more if you are with your loved one, family, friends, or colleagues.

HOW TO GET TO BORACAY

BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE: How to Get to Boracay

Though you can reach Boracay by flying to Kalibo (Aklan), Roxas (Capiz), or Iloilo, because of Covid-19, Caticlan Airport (Godofredo Ramos Airport) is the only airport that accepts tourists traveling to Boracay because the IATF has implemented a one-entry-one exit policy for easier monitoring of tourists.

MANILA TO BORACAY/CEBU TO BORACAY/DAVAO TO BORACAY

If you want a hassle-free trip from Caticlan Airport to your hotel, you can book a Boracay Airport transfer.

Caticlan Airport to Boracay (Shuttle Van) : RESERVE HERE

Caticlan airport to boracay (and vice versa): book here.

But if you want a DIY Tour of Boracay (Do-It-Yourself), here’s how:

  • From Manila (1.25 hours), Cebu (1.5 hours), or Davao (6+ hours, via Manila or Cebu) you can fly to Caticlan Airport. Several airlines offer flights to and from Caticlan. Terminal fee is PHP 200 ($4), but that’s usually already included in your flight tickets.
  • At Caticlan Airport, take a tricycle to Caticlan Jetty Port. Fare is about ₱150 ($3) per tricycle, good for 2-3 passengers. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes.
  • Find the Registration Booth at Caticlan Jetty Port and register .
  • Proceed to the Verification Area and present the Boracay requirements: the QR Code for the Health Declaration Card (HDC), the negative RT-PCR Test Result taken within 48 hours before your trip, and your confirmed hotel bookings.
  • Pay the Boracay fees (boat fee, environmental, and terminal fee). There are 2 types of boats to get to and from Boracay:  the cheaper boat costs ₱25 ($0.52) per person one-way, whereas the fast craft costs ₱100 ($2) per person one-way. Meanwhile, the Boracay environmental fee is ₱75 ($1.55) and the terminal fee is ₱100 ($2).
  • Enter the Caticlan Jetty Port Building and clear security check.

Where to stay in boracay.

During my multiple visits in Boracay, I stayed at different hotels in different areas. One is located in Station 3, another in Diniwid Beach, and there’s also one in Station 2.  The most convenient  is the one at Station 2 of course, but I also liked my stay at Diniwid Beach it is quiet and the sunset was really great. Meanwhile, what I like about my hotel at Station 3 is, it’s inexpensive.  But my personal favorite is the one hidden in Bulabog Beach – Ferra Hotel and Garden Suites because it is spotless and has excellent customer service.  You can read my full review through the blog link below.

Important: Always verify the meet-up point with the travel agency, especially if your hotel is NOT located around White Beach. Because usually the meet-up point is at D’Mall, which may be far from Yapak area or Diniwid Beach.

3.Boracay Land Tour

If you want to explore other far more peaceful Boracay beaches without taking a boat, you can do so by hiring a tricycle for ₱500 ($10), good for 2-3 persons.  Alternatively, you can also rent an ATV for ₱800 ($17) – ₱1,000 ($21) per unit, good for 2 pax, and visit Mt. Luho Viewpoint. I took a tricycle tour during my last trip to Boracay and I enjoyed it, especially the view of Boracay from Mt. Luho Viewpoint.  The farther beaches of Boracay are undeniably more tranquil and still retains the appearance of a fishing village.

boracay travel guide: Puka Beach

Here’s the usual list of Boracay tourist attractions included in the land tour:

  • Puka Beach – free
  • Luho Viewpoint – ₱ 150 ($3) entrance fee
  • Ilig-Iligan Beach – free
  • Bulabog Beach – free
  • Diniwid Beach – free

  • Boracay Tricycle Tour

Usually ₱500 ($10) for a chartered tricycle, good for 2-3 persons. Just walk up and talk to a tricycle driver in Boracay. Discuss first the places you want to visit, the duration of the tour, the rate (per tricycle), and how many persons can the vehicle accommodate (pre-Covid19, it’s usually 2-3 pax).  Make sure you agree with the price and duration of the tour before hopping inside the vehicle for the Boracay Land tour.

4.Try Boracay Water Sports

Boracay is a highly commercialized beach destination, it is crowded and crammed with water sports for adventure seekers. Here’s some of the water sports you might want to experience while in Boracay:

Boracay is well-known for its delicious fruit shake, and Jony’s Fruitshake is the original in the island, founded in 1982.  I was lucky enough to meet the amiable owner of Jony’s Fruitshake – Mr. Dionisio “Jony” Salme, who also owns Maya’s Restaurant, Pig Out Bistro, Jony’s Resort, and Jony’s Boutique Hotel. Jony’s Fruitshake is also served at Maya’s Restaurant and Pig Out Bistro.

Boracay itinerary: Jony's Fruitshake

Mang Jony is the long-time President of Boracay Business Foundation Incorporated (BFI), an organization of business owners in Boracay. He told me how he arrived in Boracay, back in March 2, 1972, when there was no electricity yet in the island. Back then, Boracay is still virtually empty, occupied mostly by Ati and Tumandok indigenous people, and a few foreign backpackers who visit the island occasionally. Mang Jony, who is originally from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, worked for the Elizalde Group of Companies. But due to the land grabbing issues during the Marcos era, he was assigned to Boracay by his boss to manage the properties of Elizalde Family like the age-old D’Mall and a local radio station. Since there was no electricity yet, they use a generator. Jony’s Fruitshake started when an Austrian Dutch Backpacker who visited Boracay had a blender with him and sold him the blender when he went back to his country.  Apparently, the young guy got tired because there was no place to charge his blender.  Since they have a generator, Mang Jony eventually bought it, but said it was pretty expensive to maintain it since they had to travel all the way to Kalibo, which takes a whole day, just to buy gasoline for the generator to run the blender, to buy ice, and to buy fruits. Fortunately, a co-worker gifted him a refrigerator powered by kerosene where he made ice.  Soon enough, foreign tourists started lining up for his fruit shakes. He then added Mexican food to his menu, like tacos and burritos, since that’s what the foreigners like back then. He set up umbrellas and tables along White Beach, and the rest is history.  Today, you can get Jony’s Fruitshake beside Maya’s Restaurant and at Pig Out Bistro.

6.Boracay Food Trip

Boracay may not be the best place in the Philippines to go on a food trip, but it sure has a handful of relaxed restaurants and cozy cafés that serve both unfussy and creative dishes. Also, take note that because of Covid-19, many restaurants, cafes, and bars have closed. Here’s some of my personal favorites:

boracay travel guide: Pig Out Bistro

  Pig Out Bistro

If you are wondering what Boracay looked like before the arrival of tourists, a huge mural painting inspired by one of the remaining old photos of Boracay taken by Dieter Schrottmann can be seen on the wall of the Pig Out Bistro in Boracay. But aside from the painting, what draws tourists to this tiny café is its ingenious food. Take for example the fresh oysters from Aklan, like the Oyster Mignonette, which, as its name suggests is garnished with mignonette sauce to balance out the brininess of the oyster. My favorite is the Green Oyster relished with herbed compound butter. And there’s also Oyster and Pearl, savored with egg roe, cucumber, and dill. If you’re in a group, try the seafood platter composed of grilled prawns, octopus, and gindara , oyster mignonette, baked oyster, steamed clams, and garlic steamed clams.

Maya’s Restaurant

This good old restaurant has been in Boracay since 1982, it was founded by Mang Dionisio “Jony” the same year as Jony’s Fruitshake. Maya is derived from the local name of a bird and the name of the indigenous people of Mexico – the Mayans, because the resto serves both Filipino and Mexican cuisines.

boracay food trip

The palm-fringed Maya Restaurant is a beach-front diner located in White Beach Station 1 in Boracay, in front of Jony’s Hotel and beside Jony’s Fruitshake. It exudes an airy, tropical atmosphere and the interior is decked with modern-designed rattan chairs where you can sit snugly while sipping your favorite Jony’s Fruitshake.

The dishes here are also created by Chef Jun Salme of the Pig Out Bistro. The Mexican flavors include: Tacos Al Pastor , comprised of homemade fresh corn tortilla, slow-cooked pork, avocado, beans, onions, and cilantro rice. The Carnitas Burrito was inspired by the shared recipe of a former Mexican Ambassador to the Philippines.  Meanwhile, some of my favorite Filipino cuisines at Maya’s Restaurant are the Kansi – softened beef bone marrow stewed in lemon grass, ginger, and batwan , and of course, the Lechon Kawali – the popular pork belly served in small kawali , which is oven-steamed to preserve the crunchiness of the skin and the juiciness of the fat.

Other Places to Eat in Boracay

Nonie’s restaurant: reserve here, station x dip and dine experience: reserve here, 7.boracay sunset watching.

The sunset of Boracay is legendary.  It is a big attraction on the island, while enjoying your fruit shake or beer at a beach-front café or a nearby swanky restaurant.

BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE: PARAW SAILING

But if you want an extraordinary sunset watching experience, try the Boracay Paraw Sailing tours during sunset.  In the Philippines, “paraw” is a term for small boat with two katig (outrigger) that is propelled by sail. And there’s a plethora of paraw boats on the beach of Boracay used for sunset watching activity.  Paraw can accommodate up to 8-10 persons. Basically, you will ride the paraw and glide along the cerulean sea during sunset. Book ahead below to reserve a seat.

8.boracay pub crawl.

Boracay is well-known for its night life.  Back in the days, during my first time in the island we met some friendly fire dancers who took us to local bars in the island where locals party like there’s no tomorrow. Nowadays, if you’re into party scenes, best to join the Boracay Pub Crawl where an experienced local guide will take you different popular bars in Boracay and get free shots and special drinks at every stop while still enjoying different activities.

9.buy boracay souvenirs.

boracay souvenirs

For a beach destination, Boracay is surprisingly a shopping haven, oozing with boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, and bistros. Its compact downtown area is perfect for shopping, strolling, and people-watching at an outdoor cafe. There are also souvenir stores in Puka Beach selling all kinds of beach outfits and Boracay souvenirs made of local materials.

  10. Boracay Side Trip

While in Boracay, you can actually make day trips to neighboring tourist destinations.

Cliff Diving at Ariel’s Point

This popular tourist destination in Buruanga, Aklan is hugged by emerald and turquoise water and swimming holes hemmed in by rock formations. It’s often crowded with tourists, mostly foreigners, who want to try cliff diving from its 5 different diving boards starting at 3 meters to 15 meters high. If you’re not into cliff diving, Ariel’s Point Day Tour Package includes: paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking along Buruanga coast, and sunbathing with a scenic view of the Sulu Sea. A day trip here already includes a buffet lunch (traditional dishes), merienda (afternoon snack), and unlimited drinks (beers, rum, soda, mixed drinks, and water). If you book Ariel’s Point Day Tour Package below, it already includes a boat transfer to and from Boracay. Pick up from Boracay is around 11:15 AM, and return to Boracay is around 5:00 PM, so you have the whole day to spend at Ariel’s Point. You can book at least a day in advance through the link below to secure a slot since this is a popular destination.

ARIEL’S POINT DAY TOUR: RESERVE HERE

Carabao island.

If there’s one day trip from Boracay that I would recommend, it’s Carabao Island. I’ve spent a few days in this tiny quiet island, far from the trappings of commercialization, and I loved it. But if you don’t have much time to spend, you can book a day tour to Carabao Island.

CARABAO ISLAND DAY TOUR: BOOK HERE

And if you have the luxury of time after your Boracay trip, you can also visit other equally charming neighboring provinces.

Gigantes Island

If you still can’t get enough of the beach and islands, head to Gigantes Island, a group of islands off the coast of Carles in Northern Iloilo. Gigantes Island is speckled with islands and islets covered by dramatic rock formations, rough-hewn coves, and emerald lagoons. For details on how to get there and Gigantes Travel Guide, click the link of my blog below.

2024 Boracay Itinerary for 1, 2, 3 days + DIY Budget Guide

2024 Boracay Itinerary for 1, 2, 3 days + DIY Budget Guide

Boracay is the top beach destination in the Philippines for leisure travelers.

I’ve made frequent trips there since I was a kid. I can’t even recall how many exactly. Just a half-day drive away from Iloilo (my hometown), Boracay had been my family’s favorite holiday destination growing up. I’ve explored all the best spots on the island.

Is Boracay worth visiting? Yes! The beach is not only one of the most beautiful beaches in the Philippines , but it’s also compelling enough to earn Boracay a spot on the list of the World’s best beaches & islands by many of the top globally recognized travel publications.

Be forewarned though. Boracay can get heavily touristic. If you’re an adventure seeker looking for hidden spots & local experiences, there are many off-beat places in the country that will suit your liking better. You can find them on my list of the best places to visit in the Philippines .

If you do not mind the touristic side of Boracay, then go! It’s a beautiful island to spend a relaxing and hassle-free vacation, especially if you’re after the resort experience & nightlife.

Traveling to Boracay for the first time? This detailed travel guide will make it easy for you to plan and maximize your trip. I’ve included a sample Boracay 3-day itinerary bellow followed by a 1-day and 2-day itinerary. PLUS, helpful travel tips.

Best Areas to Stay in Boracay

Most accommodations are located along White Beach, which is divided into three stations. The best area to stay is Station 1 (north end), known for having the best beachfront in Boracay and a more upscale atmosphere. If you prefer a more central location close to nightlife and shopping, consider booking a hotel in Station 2. Station 3 (south end) offers a quieter, more rustic experience.

Additionally, there are plenty of luxury and mid-range resorts in private beach coves like Station Zero and Boracay Newcoast, as well as hilltop locations around the island. This option is ideal for those seeking a peaceful vacation away from the crowds.

For budget-conscious travelers, consider looking for accommodations inland near White Beach or Bulabog Beach.

How to get around Boracay?

eTrikes (electric tricycles) and shuttle vans are the primary transport within Boracay Island. You can easily charter or get a shared eTrike from the main road, which is around a 5-minute walk from White Beach.

Hotels and resorts located outside of White Beach usually have complimentary shuttle service for guests with pick-up/drop-off service at D’Mall shopping center.

How many days to spend in Boracay?

2 to 4 days is enough to enjoy most of the highlights in Boracay. If you are traveling to Boracay for 5 days or more than 1 week, consider a side trip to nearby islands including Panay Island (Antique, Aklan & Iloilo) and Carabao Island.

When is the best time to visit?

I personally prefer to visit during the cooler month of February or the shoulder season from the end of May to Early June when the island is less crowded compared to the peak season.

During this time, the weather pattern starts to change between dry/summer and rainy seasons. There’s a chance of cloudy skies/rain but the weather is generally good most days. More significantly, the green sludge/algal blooms in White Beach are not as bad as compared to the summer months.

There are three main tourist seasons in Boracay:

Super peak season  — Major public holidays including Christmas to New Year, Holy Week, Ati-Atihan Festival (3rd weekend of January), Labor Day (April 1 & the closest weekend).

Peak season  — December to May except during major public holidays. The hottest months or dry/summer season is March, April & May.

Low/lean season  — June to December except during major public holidays. Rainy/monsoon season starts in mid-June until August and may extend until October.

How to get money?

Money exchange stalls and ATMs of major Philippine banks are widely available in Boracay.

Money saving tips

Traveling to Boracay on a budget? Here are some ways that you can spend less & enjoy a cheap vacation. These are especially useful if you are backpacking or simply traveling on a limited/tight budget.

1.  Go on shared eTrikes — For transport between stations 1, 2 & 3, hail a tricycle with passengers already riding. Ask the regular fare, which is under PHP 30 for short rides. Empty tricycles waiting along the highway usually charge the chartered rate, which is a lot more expensive. There’s also the option of simply walking along White Beach and enjoy sightseeing until you reach your destination.

2.  Travel in a bigger group  — Sharing expenses with more people can make your tours & accommodations a lot cheaper per person.

3.  Eat local — If you want to take a break from expensive food at tourist-oriented restaurants, look around for a carinderia or local eatery, usually found along or near the main road. You can even do your groceries at the supermarket (easy to find) and cook your own food if your hostel has a kitchen facility. There’s also a growing number of fast food chains in the island like Mang Inasal, Andok’s & McDonald’s.

4.  Haggle down prices  — Boracay is known for overpricing tourists, even local tourists from nearby provinces. Don’t be shy to haggle! Always ask for a lower price when buying souvenirs or booking tours. Shop around for the best deal.

5.  Consider staying outside of White Beach  — Expect to pay a premium for beachfront rooms. There are a lot of cheaper options near the main road. Choose one that’s not too far from the beach though.

6.  Look out for discounts online — With the rising popularity of booking sites, there are a lot of accommodations, tours & activities that can be booked cheaper online than paying walk-in rates.

How to book cheap flights to Boracay?

Hi, please help! read your blog and you stated that there’s a one-way shuttle from roxas to boracay, where exactly is that? All I’m seeing from others is roxas to kalibo. And do you happen to know the exact price for it?

January 1, 2019 at 4:47 pm

Hi Thea. It was a typo. The direct trip is Roxas-Kalibo. You’d need to change shuttles at Kalibo to go Roxas to Caticlan. Thanks for the heads up!

Hello, can we visit Aerial’s point without the package lunch deal? Thanks a lot! I’ll check you on Instagram for sure.

January 10, 2019 at 4:23 am

That is the only package that they offer as far as I know. There’s no land access to Ariel’s point, so getting the package lunch deal + ferry transfers is the best way. I passed by Ariel’s point on my way to Hinugtan Beach one time (from Buruanga mainland)… but I don’t know if they allow docking at Ariel’s point without a tour package.

We’re planning a last minute trip to Boracay and most of the hotels with availability are in Caticlan. I’ve read various articles saying no day visitors are being allowed on the island but these mostly date back to last October. Can you tell me if we stay in Caticlan this week, would we be able to make day trips each day to Boracay (we’re planning on spending about 2 weeks there)?

February 6, 2019 at 5:04 am

Hi Greg and Danica,

Try searching on Agoda and Booking.com . I haven’t heard an update that they’ve stopped checking the hotel bookings for tourists entering the island. I don’t recommend staying in Caticlan. You can maybe consider exploring other destinations nearby, if you can’t find a hotel in Boracay during your arrival date. Then, transfer to Boracay when you can find a room available. Try checking places to visit in Antique province like Pandan (Malumpati Cold Spring), Tibiao… Carabao Island might also be interesting to you (ferries depart early morning from Caticlan).

Hello, I appreciate your website. Never ben to the Philippines before, was looking at this Nov-Dec/2019. Was looking at staying at Henann Prime Beach Hotel near station one on white beach. My wife and I would like a place that does not get to noisy, but is with in walking distance to everything. We feel staying at the Movenpick would be to far away. Would really like to know your honest thought’s on the Henann Resort. Thank’s

March 26, 2019 at 10:08 pm

The location of Henann is okay. Movenpick is found on a separate beach. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a quiet area. Movenpick is not too far from White Beach… you can go on the resort shuttle or tricycle to get to/from White Beach.

Thank you for.your information. I’m going to Borocay for.my 50th love beautiful beaches we are from Australia and going middle.march and am.worried you said the water is blue algae and slush is that true for middle march as I go.elsewhere if it’s a problem.

September 13, 2022 at 11:28 am

The algae are most pronounced in the height of the summer months from March to April. It occurs naturally when the sea is calm and the temperatures are high. It’s not really a problem because you can still enjoy Boracay during that time. It occurs only in White Beach. There are plenty of other beaches and spots to visit on the island. It doesn’t cover the whole White Beach, you can find spots where the algae do not build up, at the far end of Station 1, for example.

Boracay travel essentials

  • Capital : Kalibo, Aklan province
  • Flights : Easiest way to reach Boracay is through Caticlan (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport) and then take a short ferry ride to the island. Flight takes less than an hour from Manila or Cebu, and there are dozens leaving every day. A cheaper alternative is to fly to Kalibo, and then take an 80 minute van/bus drive to Caticlan.
  • Ferry :  The trip from  Batangas to Caticlan takes at least 20 hours, so we suggest you avoid it.
  • Getting around : The island is only 7 kilometers long so getting around should not be a problem at all. You can ride a tricycle, as renting your own scooter is much more expensive than anywhere else in the country (up to $100 per day!). You can also walk or ride a bicycle if you prefer to see the most of the local lifestyle.
  • Best time to visit : The weather is great all year round. Between July and December it can rain a bit, but you should still be able to catch some sun. Summer is between March and May when temperatures can reach 35° Celsius. During the high season (November to May) the island is packed with visitors and hotel prices go up significantly
  • Nightlife : Boracay has the best nightlife scene in the Philippines – just stroll up and down the 4km White beach strip and see for yourself! Pub crawl is a great way to  meet new friends.
  • Local festivals and holidays :   During Christian holidays and Chinese new year finding a place to stay could be difficult. Local festivals include Ati Atihan (January 2nd) – a celebration in honor of baby Jesus (Santo Niño), and the Yapak festival which presents the local Aklan traditions through music, dancing and food. The immensely popular LaBoracay party festival has been sadly cancelled following the island’s rehab project.

How to get there?

Reaching Boracay is only possible by air. You can choose between 2 airports: Kalibo International Airport or Caticlan Airport . Kalibo is 1-1.5 hours away from the Boracay port, while Caticlan is right next to it.

The reason people fly into Kalibo is that flight prices from Manila are usually much lower (around 65 USD). Flying to Caticlan can cost 2 times as much. If you’re planning a very short vacation in the Philippines you can also fly directly to Kalibo from several locations abroad (Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, and Hong Kong).

There are a few daily flights to both of these airports from Manila and Cebu. Recently, small boutique airlines have also started operating direct lines between Caticlan and Palawan. These flights typically cost more, but might be useful for those on a tight schedule. AirSwift has one daily flight from El Nido to Boracay. The alternate route is also available – leaving Boracay to El Nido.

Is Boracay the right place for your vacation?

Boracay is at the top of most people’s bucket list, and it’s there for a reason. Although many tourists visit this island all year round, you may still wonder whether if it’s the right choice for you. The table below compares Boracay with other popular picks, to help you better understand if you should include it in your plans.

  • Ease of reaching : Easy
  • Best time to visit : November to May
  • Best beaches
  • Nightlife : Best in the Philippines
  • Suitable for : Party, Couples, Groups
  • Ease of reaching : Moderate
  • Island hopping
  • Hidden lagoons
  • Nightlife : Almost none
  • Suitable for : Adventure, Romantic
  • Chocolate hills
  • Nightlife : Relaxed
  • Suitable for : Romantic, Family, Groups

Bohol is just as great, but more relaxed and much cheaper. Diving in Bohol is slightly better, and the snorkeling sites are superior. Plus, there is more to do on Bohol Island itself. Popular attractions include taking a river cruise, going to the Chocolate Hills, and visiting the Tarsier Sanctuary. Bohol is better for people who prefer an all inclusive vacation but want a less crowded atmosphere. For these reasons, Bohol is a better choice for family vacations. If you’re traveling on the low season, Bohol can be too quiet and empty, while Boracay will be have just the right amount of people.

Palawan on the other end is very difficult to compare as it’s a huge province offering a lot of diversity. To get a full idea of what Palawan is about visit our Palawan page . In short, Palawan is more difficult to get to and travel around in. Things are much less touristy and in order to get to one place from another you might have to spend 6-7 hours commuting. Prices in Palawan are of a wider range, and go from low budget to 5 star resorts, so in terms of variety it’s better than Boracay . If you must choose between the places discussed in this section, we feel that Boracay and Bohol are competing against one another, while Palawan is complimentary to both.

What to do in Boracay?

Our packages already cover all the must-see attractions in Boracay. However, you can still pick any of the specific day trips  listed below and simply add those to your cart. It is important to note that you can obtain most of these tours from independent vendors standing outside resorts or at the beach, but we advise against it because many will try to rip you off.

Your safety and enjoyment are our priority, and that is why we only work with honest, trustworthy service providers. We promise to be with you all throughout your trip and  handle any concern efficiently should it arise. Below, you can find a detailed overview of everything there is to do in Boracay. This should help you get a better idea of what type of activities you’d like to try out while staying there. For a breakdown of prices and complete itineraries, visit our Boracay day tour catalog .

Boracay Island hopping day tours

Puka beach at Boracay

Island hopping is a great way to fill up your days with sunny beaches and clear crystal waters. Most boat tours begin at  Puka beach , and for good reason. The beach is as beautiful as the white beach but much quieter. It is the perfect place to lie in the sun and relax while enjoying the spectacular views.

Just 20 minutes by boat from White beach lies Crocodile Island . The shallow and calm waters around it make the island one of the best snorkeling spot in the area. From there it’s only a 15 minute ride to Crystal cove – a small, beautiful island with 2 coves to explore. You can access the first cove in the main picnic area through a spiral staircase. The second cove is harder to reach as you need to crawl through a tunnel first.

Another great location packed with adventure, just 30 minutes from Boracay, is Ariel’s Point. Listed as one of the best cliff diving spots in the world, the small island is also a great place for snorkeling or kayaking across the quiet shoreline. Magic Island is a closer option for those looking to round up their island hopping tour with some excitement – with cliff jumps ranging from 3 to 10 meters high.

Paraw sailing across Boracay and watching the sunset is the perfect way to end your day. The Paraw is a traditional Filipino fishing boat, used by the locals long before the island became a tourist destination. Its narrow build allows the boat to navigate smoothly across the waves while you enjoy a great panoramic view of the White beach during sunset.

Paraw sailing

All tours and attractions can be added to your custom Boracay package or obtained individually. Just like all other services we offer, tours can be completely tailor made to meet your exact wishes. They typically include hotel pick-up, personal guide and meals. If there’s anything else you want added, just let us know in advance and we’ll take care of it.

Diving tours and other extreme activities

In a country considered to be among the top diving destinations in the world, Boracay is usually overshadowed by other islands. Comparing it to hardcore diving destinations doesn’t really do it justice – since admittedly the diving spots here are far less impressive. That doesn’t mean however that you can’t dive in Boracay, or that you wouldn’t enjoy it still.

Since tourism is so well developed it’s no problem finding a professional dive club with great instructors. In fact, Boracay might be one of the best places for beginners to dive at. You could try it out here – and then continue to other places for more advanced and challenging dives. If that sounds like a good idea, check our diving packages for more detailed suggestions on how to plan your itinerary.

There are no less than 15 different dive sites in Boracay – featuring colorful corals and fish, caves and tunnels. Each of these locations is great for beginners, although some do require you already obtain an open water certificate. If you don’t have it yet – consider taking the 3 day course at one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Alternatively, you could just book a introduction dive tour, which takes 3-4 hours and include 1 dive – no prior experience is required.

There are quite a few dive resorts scattered around the White beach area – with some of them even being high-end luxury resorts. If you consider obtaining your PADI certificate here, it might be a good idea to book a complete Boracay diving package and stay at one of these resorts. Another added bonus is that this way you’ll be able to join a group, meet new friends and even save some money along the way.

For complete beginners who don’t want to dive at all, Boracay’s helmet diving is the best alternative. You’ll be taken to the helmet diving floating platform (20min. ride), where a licensed PADI instructor will brief and accompany you throughout your dive. Helmet diving offers a unique opportunity to walk on the sea floor and meet colorful fish face to face.

Want to include any of these activities into your Boracay vacation? Book any of our packages and get the best possible deals!

Fun and adventure in Boracay focus almost entirely around its waters, as one might expect. Jet-skis, Banana boats and flyfish rides are easy to find around the White beach area, and are perfectly safe and fun for the entire family. Most resorts offer these activities as part of their all-inclusive package.

Another notable site at the other side of the island is the Bulabog beach. It is a less crowded area and contrary to the White beach, Bulabog enjoys strong winds all year round. This is perfect for extreme water sports activities. Bulabog is the best kite-surfing site in Asia and it attracts a lot of surfing enthusiasts. There are quite a few surfing schools in the area, some of them world renowned, who offer a full package – kite surfing, parasailing, water-skiing and wake-boarding lessons.

Zipline and cable car is another fantastic activity offering a memorable experience. It begins with a climb to Mt. Luho – the island’s highest peak (112m) and then descending through the forest all the way down to a quiet, stunning beach. It’s the perfect way to appreciate Boracay’s landscape from a unique viewpoint.

Boracay nightlife – best bars and clubs

Virtually all nightlife is at White Beach, with only a few bars to be found at Diniwid beach and Bulabog beach. People who stay outside White Beach probably do so since they prefer a more quiet environment – but you can easily garb a tricycle and get to the party within 10 minutes or so.

If you’re looking for a bar, there’s a live band playing and generally speaking, the vibe is very chill and people are friendly you can go to station 2 just by waking by the beach. As mentioned, station 2 is where most of the action is in White Beach. This is where you’ll find all the best nightclubs and beach parties. Clubs usually start off at around midnight, when people start pouring in from the surrounding bars. Epic is the the most popular and looks the best – so if you are looking for a wild, crowded party this is the place to go to.

Other noteworthy clubs include Summer place (more westerners and less locals), Club Paraw (local favorite) and Cocomangas. All these station 2 clubs have an entrance fee. They usually run until pass 12mn, although it can last a bit longer if the party is good. If you want to skip the entrance fee, go to station 3’s Boracay Stars instead. This club is entirely indoors and is the only one with an air-con as well. Not as crowded as the others, it’s still a great place to party and have some fun.

When it comes to bars, our suggestion would be to just take a stroll across the entire White Beach strip until you see something you like. There are dozens of different places to choose from, and each has its own unique vibe. Sports bars, rock bars, live bands, reggae bars, loud dance music and chill beach bars are what you can expect to see here. Most bars charge 1-2 USD for local beer, so it’s a great place to drink and hang out until the party starts. They all typically close around midnight or 1 am, but some stay open longer than that if there are enough clients.

Hi Dolores and thanks for leaving a comment!

It’s a bit hard to give good advice and an accurate quote with so little information. From example – where are you coming from and do you need help with booking flights? How many rooms do you want to have? Interested in day tours as well?

Would be better if you can take a few minutes and fill out our inquiry form here . One of our agents will go over it and get back to you with a detailed offer.

Can you help me find cheapest but a good beachfront hotel?1room for 2 pax, roundtrip airfare from manila, date would be feb.13,2019 till feb.16,2019?I want all taxes included like environmental tax and other fees included please.Kindly give me a quotation for this and comparison off there’s activities included and meals please.Thank you and have a lovely day.

Hi Patricia,

Please send an inquiry through our contact form. We would love to help you out, but some key information is missing.

Hi there, we a family of 8 or 13 will be in Boracay from the 24th to the 29th, we would like a quote on a private catamaran sunset trip, which would include a seafood lunch or give us the option of Halaal Indian food, what would this cost?

Thank you for your interest in our services. Please submit your inquiry through our contact form here for faster response.

Hello Travel East

I am planning to travel with my family. There will be 6 of us. My dad and mom are senior citizens (do you offer senior citizen discount?). Planning to stay for 3 days 2 nights. My family wants to stay in one family room with at least 3 double beds or as long as the room can accomodate 6 people. Arrival date will be August 16, 2019. Departure will be August 18, 2019 (airfare and hotel accomodation should be included). Roundtrip airfare from Manila to Boracay (vice versa). What is the best package rate you can offer?

Hi Rico and thank you for showing an interest in our services.

We do offer senior citizen discount but it depends on the policy of the hotel. Some hotels give a flat discount while others make the room VAT-free. For that reason, the price will vary based on the specific hotel you choose and it would be best if you discuss this directly with one of our agents.

Please leave an inquiry here , and our team will help you move forward with this vacation.

This rock is a volcanic formation that has been on the island for thousands of years and is very easy to get to! Exploring this site is a must. You can climb up the stairs and ascend into this castle-like structure to really admire it in all of its glory.

This naturally formed rock is a mystery! You can climb a staircase up to the top of Willy’s Rock to enter a scenic church where you can even encounter a serene statue of the graceful Virgin Mary perched for all to enjoy.

You’ll love every moment of this adventure, and once you arrive, you’ll understand how a rock has become so loved amongst both the indigenous people of Boracay and its many visitors.

You can also grab a bite to eat and relax under the brilliant sunshine on the private white-sand beach of this inviting island.

Crystal Cove Island

The island has been named Crystal Cove Island due to its two very popular and eye-catching coves! These are the ideal places for tourists to enjoy watersports, like snorkeling and swimming.

4:00 pm – Shop in the Lines Between White Beach and Bulabog Beach

This outdoor area is considered the island’s only shopping mall, but it is very unlike what we envision to be a ‘mall’ in our western civilization. This mall is more like a market,  but an incredibly big one at that!

Named ‘D Mall’, you will find a surprising amount of souvenirs, handicrafts, jewelry, paintings, swimming costumes, clothing and local food here!

Shop in the Lines Between White Beach and Bulabog Beach

This is the best place to shop as the locals do, and you’ll find plenty of awesome trinkets available for tourists, such as yourselves! Not only is there a massive variety available, but you can truly experience what it’s like to live in Boracay and imagine how it would be to live in a society where the only mall is an outdoor market.

  • Cost : Free to browse!
  • Getting there : This outdoor mall is situated between White Beach and Bulabog Beach.

Boracay is beautiful, and one of the best ways to make sure you enjoy your trip to its fullest is to choose the right time of year for your trip to Boracay!

This small island is busy most of the year, as it has an inviting climate with plenty of sun and a tropical appeal. This is best experienced during the months between November to May! Expect a lot of crowds though, as this is also peak season.

Off-season in Boracay falls between mid-July to October, which also happens to be the typhoon season in the Philippines! Although the island of Boracay is naturally shielded from strong typhoons, it does get very gloomy and isn’t the best time to visit for sun-lovers and beach loafers! One of the added bonuses of visiting during this time is that there will be off-peak prices and minimal crowds.

when to visit boracay

The most popular months to visit are all the way from December to May, so you have a wide window of opportunity for the best vacation in Boracay! Expect to be greeted by rays of sunshine, wafting ocean waves, smiling faces and so much more! This time is not only one of the most popular seasons for tourists, but locals themselves also particularly come alive during this time.

For snorkelers and divers, the best time to visit is undoubtedly during peak season, as this also falls in the hotter summer days. Due to the ideal weather, the crystal clear waters become much more pleasant and very clear for sightseeing colorful fish!

Ultimately, deciding When to visit Boracay is up to you and your own travel desires! Here is a breakdown of what you can expect each month!

Staying safe during your travels is so important, and this is something we are all about! There are always safety tips available for every destination, and things that one needs to be aware of – no matter where you go in the world!

Boracay is a lazy beachscape that doesn’t have any violent crime and is known for being exceptionally safe, but there are still some things to remain conscious of when you visit.

At some point during your Boracay itinerary, you will most likely hire a tricycle. This is a quick, fun and affordable way to get around – usually. Just be sure that your driver is licensed, and that he does not charge you exorbitant fees simply because you are a tourist!

beach in boracay

This happens all too often and can be avoided by being aware of it. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s common for drivers to charge 100 PHP per person, which is much more than you need to pay. Know your routes, and don’t get taken for a ride, literally!

When swimming, beware of going too far out at sea, especially during high tide! The waves are strong, and the currents can pull you out before you even know it. It’s best to avoid far-out swims from 12 pm – 3 pm. Stick to the shallow shoreline to keep safe during this time period! Remember that red flag beaches prohibit swimming, as there are no lifeguards on duty there.

Be prepared for an overwhelming amount of vendors along the beach! There are constantly people wanting to sell boat rides, trinkets, food, and everything else under the sun. Don’t be shy, and state firmly that you are not interested, as they can be quite persistent with tourists! They are likely to leave you alone if you put a strong foot down.

Lastly, the sun beats down heavily. Add sunscreen to your Phillippines packing list or you will regret it. Remember to get frequent breaks in the shade, so you can avoid sunstroke!

ULTIMATE BORACAY DIY TRAVEL GUIDE FOR FIRST TIMERS: ITINERARY & BUDGET

Joana Paola Gutierrez

It was my 2nd time in Boracay , so much has changed since 2017 when my eyes first saw the world class white beach. Despite the noticeable changes around the island, some things still remained the same. The sunset is as beautiful as it was 6 years ago, the powdery sand still amazes me and the night life remained vibrant as it has always been. (Boracay DIY Travel Guide)

Understanding Boracay Island

Boracay is an island located in the Northwest part of Panay Island and is part of the province Aklan. Along the west coast is a laid back beach filled with restaurants and a calm beach. The east coast on the other hand has strong winds that makes Bulabog beach a hub for water sports.

Language and People

Other than Aklanon and Tagalog , English is also widely spoken in Boracay. Later settlers brought other Visayan languages to the island such as Ilonggo , Capiznon and more. Given that Boracay is a world class beach visited by many foreigners, it is also not surprising that most locals can speak and understand basic greetings from different parts of the world like Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French etc.

Currency Used in Boracay

Aside from PHP cash, there are lots of establishments accepting USD cash, credit cards and e-wallet payment like GCASH . Moreover, there are a handful of money exchange centers and ATM machines around the island such as BPI , BDO and Metrobank . Money exchange centers can be found at Caticlan Jetty Port and at D’Mall in Station 2.

Did you know? Boracay is a Bitcoin Island and over 250 locations including resorts, fine dining, water sports, etc. accepts Bitcoin as a form of payment. Read more here .

Best Month to Visit Boracay?

The ideal months to visit the island is during summer season where it is hot and the beach is as calm as still water in a basin. These months are from February to April . Although I’ve tried visiting Boracay in November and the weather was hot and sunny.

Of course, you definitely do not want to visit Boracay during algae season . To avoid this, keep in mind that algae season corresponds to rainy season which starts from mid May to mid October. Although the presence of algae is non-toxic and should not be a cause for concern, a visit to Boracay would be more appreciated without it. So best to plan your date of travel!

Pre Boracay DIY Travel Guide

How to go to boracay island.

Boracay Island is very accessible either via sea travel or air travel. I created a separate travel guide for this. Read step by step guide here: How to get to Boracay From Caticlan or Kalibo Airport?

boracay siy travel guide

How to get around Boracay Island?

The main mode of transportation is an e-trike . For short distance travel between Stations 1-3 going to D/Mall, the fare is Php20.00/each for a group of 4-6 people. If you will charter the whole e-trike for 1-2 people, the fare is Php50.00-100.00.

Moreover, e-trikes also offer land tours for Php500.00/hour and for a maximum of 4 person. The places to visit are (1) Puka Beach, (2) Ilig-Iligan Beach, (3) Keyhole Beach, (4) Groto Beach, (5) Diniwid Beach, (6) New Coast Beach and (7) Bulabog Beach. The expense per person will really depend on how long you are going to stay to these places.

Where to eat in Boracay?

I have mentioned in my previous article that Boracay is a growing food hub, and honestly there are so many restaurants to choose from. Almost all types of cuisine around the world can be found in Station 1, 2 and 3.

My top recommendations are (1) Nalka Seafood Restaurant, (2) Coco Mama, (3) 2 Seasons Boracay and (4) Salsa Fusion Restaurant. For more recommendations, read here: BORACAY FOOD GUIDE + BEST RESTAURANTS .

Things to do in Boracay Island

1. check the beach at station 1, 2 and 3.

Are you up for long walks by the shore? If you are then you might want to check the long stretch of white sand beach from station 1, 2 and 3! But mind you, it’s a really long walk so I suggest to do it early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

2. Food Crawl in Boracay

It is evident that the island is also for people who likes to binge eat because Boracay is a growing food hub that literally has all types of cuisines around the world in one island.

The wide array of choices makes it difficult to choose which restaurant to try. But here’s a list I created for top rated restaurants/food you should try in Bora! Read here: 2023 ULTIMATE BORACAY FOOD GUIDE .

3. Sunset Paraw Sailing is a MUST!

I give this activity 10/10! Sunset Paraw Sailing is a must try activity. Boracay has one of the best sunsets I’ve seen in the country and watching it while sailing makes it more aesthetic in photos, lol . Kidding aside, it’s the best seat to watch the sunset in Boracay.

4. Visit the Keyhole

One of the newest attraction is the Keyhole which can be accessed via land travel. It is located along the side where they are developing the “Newscoast.” We were not able to see it up close because it has been raining for days when we visited and they said the rocks are dangerous.

Oh and don’t forget to make a wish before passing through under the keyhole! Superstitious or not, I guess it’s something fun to believe!

5. Get an IG-Worthy Crystal Kayak Shot!

They say you’ve never been to Boracay without getting a crystal kayak shot for the ‘gram ! For only Php150.00 you get a crystal kayak boat ride with a local who is experienced in taking crystal kayak photos. They are available in Station 1, 2 or 3, just walk towards the crystal kayak if you see one and inquire.

6. Visit the Diniwid Beach

Diniwid Beach is a more quiet spot than in Station 1, 2 and 3. If you are looking for a chill spot, Diniwid Beach has lesser crowd. It is located just beside Station 1, you can either walk or ride an e-trike to get here. Insider tip : it’s a nice sunset spot!

7. Get a Hair Braid!

I don’t know if it’s just me but whenever I see my friends in Boracay, they always get hair braids. It kinda set me the impression that hair braid is a thing in Boracay. So, I told myself I need to get hair braid! Lol . It’s a mandatory thing for ladies!

I enjoyed walking around the beach with my tan skin and braided hair. It’s like a signature thing in Boracay. Haha!

8. Try the Water Activities

Definitely something to look out for especially for adrenaline junkies out there! Almost all hotels/accommodations offers water activities to their guests or just by walking in literally any part of the island, locals will come offering you water activities to try.

Some of the popular activities to try are: (1) helmet diving, (2) parasailing, (3) jetski, (4) island hopping, (5) banana boat and many more! If you’re planning to do it, I suggest doing it in 1 day and ask for a package deal so that you’ll get it at a discounted price.

9. Island Hopping or Visit Carabao Island in Romblon

If you have more days to stay in Boracay , visiting Carabao Island in Romblon is a must. Dubbed as “Boracay’s twin sister island” you will definitely enjoy the laid-back beach of Carabao Island.

READ HERE: CARABAO ISLAND TRAVEL GUIDE

10. Boracay Night Life

The vibrant night life in Boracay hasn’t changed at all. Dance the night away with a crowd mix of tourists, foreigners and locals!

11. Get that Boracay Massage

As a tita Joan, I cannot skip this! Lol . The way people do massage is different from one place to the other. Diverse culture gives people a different but unique way of massaging or healing the body and I really think it’s another way of learning about a place’s culture & tradition.

Sample Boracay Itinerary & Budget

This itinerary is assuming that you will be arriving in Caticlan (nearest airport) in the afternoon on your first day. (Boracay DIY Travel Guide)

Tips From Joan’s Footprints

  • Avoid algae season by booking flights in the months of February – April.
  • Don’t get scammed by hair braids! Do not pay more than 1,000 for a hair braid. Haggle as much as possible.

The Best Boracay Land Tour Destinations + Complete Itinerary

Boracay is known for its beautiful white sand beach, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and exciting water activities . But after visiting Boracay four times, I discovered a hidden gem that most tourists are unaware of – Boracay land tour.

With Boracay land tour, I’ve explored less crowded and peaceful beaches without taking a boat. This perfect slow travel experience allowed me to see everyday life on the island and feel more connected to it.

In this guide, I will share the best Boracay land tour destinations, sample itineraries, and prices so you can plan your own land tour.

Wooden sign for 'Puka Beach Boracay' set against a clear blue sky on white sand, highlighting a popular stop among Boracay land tour destinations.

Boracay Land Tour Options

Unlike island hopping tours with fixed itineraries, Boracay land tour gives you flexibility and control of your time.

While drivers have suggested itineraries, you can skip any stops or stay longer at others. You pay for the tour hourly, so you can decide how long you want to spend at each destination.

Here are the different ways to enjoy your Boracay land tour:

Walking along the white beach from station 2 (or 3) to station 1 to see Willie’s Rock is a great way to take in the white beach, local restaurants, and even paraws .

I love walking every morning or at sunset or whenever I look for a spot to do yoga or to eat.

I did this walk with my mother and a friend, although my friend did question our friendship after such a long walk. 😅 But kidding aside, it’s one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy Boracay.

Me and my mother walking in Station 1 in Boracay

Renting a Motorbike

If walking’s not your jam, you can still explore the beautiful shores with a motorbike.

Rent a motorbike and discover the most secluded and untouched beaches. Since you’ll be on your own, you can spend as much time as you want in each location.

I’ve done it once and I’ve discovered many quiet beaches that I’ve never heard of. Also, who can resist the excitement of being on a motorbike?

I’ve listed those beaches and other destinations below for your own Boracay DIY land tour.

My friend, Rae and I, on scooter at night in Boracay land tour.

E-Trike Tour

If you don’t feel like driving around, you can easily hire an e-trike driver in Boracay for ony P500 ($10) per hour. This is a great option for small groups of up to four people.

You can easily find a tricycle driver on the main road. When you find one, discuss first the places you want to visit and the duration of the tour before settling on a price.

Multicab Tour

If you’re traveling with a big group, going with a multicab would be your best bet. A multicab is  a small light truck that is used for public transport.

A tour on a multicab would average P700 per vehicle, not per person, which is great because they can carry a maximum of 10 passengers at a time!

For an extraordinary Boracay adventure, you can rent an ATV for P800 to P1,000. The ATV can hold a driver and a passenger, and you can even visit the stunning Mt Luho Viewpoint for just P150 entrance fee. The breathtaking view from the top is completely worth it!

The Best Boracay Land Tour Destinations

Boracay land tour allows you to explore various destinations, including beaches and other attractions.

All the destinations are located close to each other, and you can cover them within a half day with an e-trike, multicab, or motorbike.

The best part? All destinations are FREE to enter! Yes, no entrance fee!

Here are the top destinations you can visit during the tour:

1. Puka Beach

raditional Filipino boats line the shore of Puka Beach in Boracay, set against a backdrop of clear skies and azure waters, a natural gem among Boracay land tour destinations.

With shops bunched up near the entrance, Puka Beach’s 800m shoreline is ideal for those who want to enjoy Boracay’s natural beauty while still having the convenience of stores nearby.

2. Tambisaan Beach

Crystal-clear turquoise waters meet the white sandy shores of Tambisaan Beach, framed by lush tropical greenery, a tranquil Boracay land tour destination

Located on the east side of Boracay, Tambisaan Beach is famous for its aquamarine waters that are home to vibrant coral reefs and tropical fish. It’s a great spot for snorkeling and freediving.

3. Diniwid Beach

Sandy path lined with rocks at Diniwid Beach in Boracay, with hillside houses and clear blue waters, a peaceful spot on Boracay land tours.

This beach is perfect for those looking to relax away from the crowded stations. It has clear waters and a cozy atmosphere, perfect for scenic walks.

4. Sinagpa Beach

Nearby Diniwid, this beach offers a quiet beach experience with equally stunning coastal views without the crowd.

5. Lambros Point

You can reach Lambros Point from Sinagpa Beach or Diniwid Beach. From here, you can see the breathtakingly beautiful view once you get past the anchored boats and several boatmen.

6. Ilig-iligan Beach (Newcoast Beach)

Serene view of Ilig-iligan Beach, also known as Newcoast Beach, featuring clear turquoise waters and lush greenery, included in Boracay land tour itinerary.

Surrounded by cliffs and coconut trees, Ilig-Iligan Beach is located on the northeast coast of Boracay and is part of the Boracay Newcoast development . Thanks to its unpopularity, the beach and its clear waters offer a quiet escape far from the crowds of tourists.

7. Lugutan Mangrove Park

Located in a joint project with the DENR, Lugutan Mangrove Park is a sanctuary for Boracay’s mangroves. You can take a relaxing, scenic walk here while learning about the importance of mangroves.

8. Boracay Keyhole

Located at the southern end of Ilig-Iligan Beach, Boracay Keyhole or Cujo’s Keyhole is a natural rock formation famous for the rock arch naturally formed by weathering. It’s a famous photo spot so you may encounter crowds of people. However, during my visit, I was the only one there!

Me standing before the natural limestone arch known as Boracay Keyhole.

9. Bulabog Beach

Kitesurfers glide over the waves at Bulabog Beach, a vibrant water sports hub and part of Boracay land tour destinations.

Bulabog Beach is known for all the unique water sports you can try. Its strong winds make it the best spot for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and other adventure activities.

You’ll also find the famous leaning coconut tree on Instagram here.

10. Willy’s Rock

Willy's Rock in Boracay, with a lone palm tree and vivid turquoise sea, a distinctive landmark often visited on a Boracay land tour.

Off the shallow shores of Station 1 is Willy’s Rock, an iconic and photogenic rock formation featuring a statue of the Virgin Mary. Located against the backdrop of Boracay’s horizon, it is another popular photo spot in Boracay.

Boracay Land Tour Itinerary

Are you looking for a Boracay land tour itinerary? Here are some samples for you!

Remember, the best thing about this land tour is its flexibility. You can choose which destinations you want to visit and skip or add any spots that you want.

You can even check a spot and decide whether you want to continue with the next destination or stay longer.

For me, it’s best to limit the number of attractions you visit to five. This gives you plenty of time to enjoy each one without feeling rushed.

And if you start the tour in the morning, you’ll have enough time to explore any of these three itineraries.

Itinerary 1: North Boracay

This is the usual land tour Boracay itinerary. Compared to the itineraries on the list, this one requires a full day. Bring some packed lunch to enjoy on the beach!

Lugutan Mangrove Park

Start your day with a peaceful walk at Lugutan Mangrove Park. It’s also an opportunity to learn about the role the mangroves in coastal protection and biodiversity.

This is the usual Boracay land tour itinerary. This itinerary takes a full day to complete and I recommend you bring packed lunch to enjoy on the beach.

Start your day with a peaceful walk at Lugutan Mangrove Park. This is also an opportunity to learn about the role of mangroves in coastal protection and biodiversity.

Boracay Keyhole

You may encounter a small line here but it is not that crowded because of its secluded location.

Sinagpa Beach, Lambros Point and Diniwid Beach

Next, go to Sinagpa Beach, a less-visited beach that locals mostly enjoy. Walking on the concrete will lead you to a cliff’s opening, Lambros Point, and another charming beach, Diniwid Beach. Stay here and watch the spectacular sunset without the crowds!

End your day at Puka Beach, known for its pristine white sand and shell-covered shoreline. It’s a nice spot to unwind, reflect on your day, and enjoy the natural beauty of Boracay as the day comes to an end.

Itinerary 2: South and Central Boracay

This itinerary is a mix of famous spots like Boracay Keyhole and Willy’s Rock but also a secluded beach, Tambisaan Beach.

Tambisaan Beach

Start at Tambisaan Beach, a great spot for snorkeling and seeing Boracay’s colorful marine life. It’s quieter in the morning.

Bulabog Beach

Next, visit Bulabog Beach, a hotspot for kiteboarding and windsurfing. Even if you’re not up for the sports, it’s fun to watch others take to the water.

A unique geological formation, the Boracay Keyhole is worth visiting for its natural beauty. It’s a small, secluded spot that feels like a hidden gem on the island.

Willy’s Rock

End your day at Willy’s Rock, one of Boracay’s iconic landmarks. Located at Station 1, this naturally formed rock structure features a grotto of the Virgin Mary. It’s a peaceful place to watch the sunset.

You can also try the famous Jonah’s Fruit Shake located nearby.

Itinerary 3: Secluded Beaches

Looking for a quiet beachscape away from the crowd? This is the perfect itinerary for you.

The beaches on this itinerary are located near each other, so you can ask your driver to drop you off and pick you up when you’re done. You can spend the entire day here, just bring a picnic lunch or come in the late afternoon.

Winding footpath along the rocky cliffside of Diniwid Beach, leading to turquoise waters with a traditional boat in the distance, a scenic part of Boracay land tour destinations.

Sinagpa Beach , Lambros Point , Diniwid Beach

Start your day by getting dropped off at Sinagpa Beach, an off-the-beaten-path beach in Boracay.

From here, you can easily access Lambros Point and Diniwid Beach, a small yet stunning beach located north of White Beach.

These spots are ideal for people who want a quiet place to relax and enjoy a peaceful morning or a beautiful sunset.

Boracay Land Tour vs Island Hopping

If you’re planning to visit Boracay, you have two options for exploring the island: island hopping and land tours in Boracay.

I highly recommend both if you have time and resources. But if you had to choose, as someone who has done both the land tour and island hopping a couple of times, here’s what I think.

The Boracay land tour will take you to quieter beaches, where you can try local cuisine, and get close to the island’s culture. It’s perfect for those who want to explore Boracay  deeply , beyond its beaches.

Although the islands near Boracay are beautiful, I find those in Coron and El Nido Palawan more breathtaking. For me, the highlight of Boracay is its white beach, which you can fully experience during a land tour.

A land tour also allows you not to follow a strict schedule, so you can take your time and decide to stay at one destination longer. Plus, it’s much more affordable than island hopping.

On the other hand, island hopping is all about enjoying the waters. It’s ideal for adventure lovers who want to snorkel, relax on secluded beaches that are only accessible by boat, and enjoy the view from the boat ride. This option is perfect for those who love to swim, sunbathe, and enjoy the ocean.

If you can, I recommend doing both the land tour and island hopping. However, if you have to choose only one, I suggest going for the land tour. You can always add  one or two water activities  after your land tour to experience water fun.

Where to Eat in Boracay?

Looking for delicious local cuisine to cap off your Boracay land tour? Check out my favorite restaurants on the island:

D Talipapa Market

Enjoy a seafood feast at D’Talipapa Market where you can enjoy the freshest catches of the day. You can handpick your favorite seafood and have it expertly prepared to your liking at the restaurants in the area. Not only is the produce fresh, but it’s also affordable.

Jonah’s Fruit Shake

Hand holding a Jonah's fruit shake with a rice straw, a famous refreshment in Boracay, with palm trees and the beach in the background.

Oh, the iconic Jonah’s Fruit Shake! Try one of their fruit shakes at least once during your visit to Boracay. I really loved their banana choco peanut shake that I even recreated at home and when I traveled abroad!

They also have a restaurant in Station 1 in front of Willy’s Rock where you can enjoy Filipino meals and snacks. Make sure to include Jonah’s in your Boracay land tour itinerary because who wouldn’t want to lounge on the beach with a refreshing fruit shake in their hand?

Los Indios Bravos

Los Indios Bravos is a classic English pub that serves a variety of hearty meat dishes, steaks, and burgers. They also offer an exclusive selection of draft beers that you can enjoy while admiring the beautiful views of Boracay Station 1.

Subo Boracay

Experience authentic Filipino flavors at their finest in Subo Boracay! With its interiors inspired by Spanish-era Philippines, Subo offers a unique Filipino culinary experience with a modern twist.

Spicebird is known for its flavorful grilled meats and exclusive sauces that will leave you craving more. If you’re looking for a flavor extravaganza, Spicebird is definitely worth a visit.

Where to Stay in Boracay?

Discovery shores boracay (luxury).

Discovery Shores Boracay is a favorite for its blend of boutique charm and luxurious comfort , right on the stunning Station 1 beach.

The resort provides excellent service, elegant rooms, and stunning views of sunsets. It is the perfect place for a relaxing Boracay vacation away from the crowd .

Henann Crystal Sands Resort (Mid-range)

I enjoyed staying here because not only does it have direct access to the white beach, but it’s also located very close to the D’Mall restaurants.

The resort has a beautiful infinity swimming pool with a center bar. I highly recommend this resort for those who love to party and for those visiting Boracay for the first time .

Ferra Premier by JG (Budget)

I couldn’t highly recommend Ferra Premier enough for its very friendly staff! I stayed here twice, once with my mother and then my best friend.

The resort’s convenient location near White Beach and Bulabog Beach allows guests to fully experience both beaches without any hassle.

Tips for Your Boracay Land Tour

  • If you’re hiring an e-trike or a multicab, discuss the rates first with your driver to avoid any surprises with the final cost. Drivers usually follow a standard rate, but it’s always best to confirm.
  •  If you’re traveling with kids, children up to 4 years old are usually free of charge. Ask your driver about this.
  •  Bring enough cash. While most restaurants in Station 2 accept credit cards and GCash payments, you’ll likely visit remote beaches where small local vendors only accept cash.
  • Always check the weather before planning your itinerary. Ask your driver which sites are best to visit given the weather predictions for the day.
  • You can usually bring your food and drinks without a corkage fee on a land tour. Please dispose of your waste properly! Also, while it’s not a requirement, it’s a nice gesture to offer some food to your driver or guide.

Wrap Up: Is Boracay Land Tour Worth It?

Yes. Boracay Land Tour is worth it if you want to see the island in a non-touristy way and save money. It also gives you the freedom to experience everything that Boracay has to offer at your own pace.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or someone who has been to Boracay before and wants a different experience, I highly recommend taking the land tour.

If you received value from this post, please consider supporting my work. Thank you so much! If you have a question, write it in the message box and I’ll get back to you asap!
