Pack Accordingly! Each night of the cruise celebrates an outrageous 80s theme

How did  The 80s Cruise  earn the title of “The Ultimate 80s Party?” It takes a killer lineup of iconic 80s bands, but our rock star guests take the party to the max at the totally tubular Theme Nights. Each night’s theme sets the stage, but our guests knock it out of the park with show-stopping costumes that turn heads and turn back the clocks. It may take you some time to plan, but memories of these Theme Night parties will live on forever!

BOOK AND MANAGE YOUR RESERVATION

How do I make my reservation?

You are welcome to use a travel agent to make your reservation; however, we do not pay agent commissions.

What type of cabin should I reserve?

There are four main cabin types: Inside, Ocean View, Balcony and Suites.

Inside cabins are the lowest priced and smallest in size. There is plenty of room, but they do not have a window to the outside.

Ocean View cabins are very similar to the inside staterooms but offer a window (that does not open) to view the outside.

Balcony cabins have a floor to ceiling window with a door that opens to a private balcony that has two chairs and a small table. These cabins are generally larger in size than ocean view and interior cabins.

Suites are the biggest cabin type on the ship. They also have bigger balconies and separate seating areas. They also come with a variety of amenities and services that are not available to those in different cabin types.

You can view detailed descriptions of all cabins HERE .

If you need any help selecting the best cabin for you, please give us a call at 844.384.8080 or email [email protected] . Our reservation specialists are standing by to answer any questions you have.

Tips to Consider When Selecting Your Cabin:

Sometimes we are asked what part of the ship is the best. The answer depends on what you are looking for. The Mariner of the Seas is a big ship so it does not rock very much but we are sailing on the high seas so it will move a little. Some people want to feel the ship movement, others want to feel like they are on dry land so here are a couple of tips:

  • The smoothest ride is found in the middle of the ship on lower decks.
  • The side of the ship does not matter.
  • Different ports dock on different sides so there is no “land facing” or “ocean facing” side. When we are at sea, everything is ocean facing!
  • If you want to limit your walking, pick a cabin near the elevators or if you want to get your exercise every day, pick a cabin further away.
  • Our reservation team is happy to answer any questions you might have so please give us a call at 844.384.8080 or email [email protected] .

How can I view and make changes to my reservation?

Once a reservation is made, you can view your reservation HERE . If you need to make changes to your reservation (change cabin, update payment information, add or remove a guest, correct contact information, cancel your reservation) please contact a Reservation Specialist Monday – Thursday 9:00AM CT – 5:00PM CT or Friday 9:00AM CT – 4:00PM CT at 844.384.8080 or by emailing [email protected] . All reservation cancellation requests must be made by contacting our office. Changes made to an existing reservation within 120 days of sailing are subject to a $150 manifest change fee.

Registering for the accessible seating area is only available in the Royal Theater for the evening’s Main Show. All other shows and venues are available on a first come, first served basis.

Those who register will be allowed to enter the theater shortly prior to general admission with a maximum of one companion. Additional companions will not be allowed to sit in the accessible section, due to limited space. More information on entry will be delivered to registered guests closer to the time of sailing.

To register for accessible seating in the Royal Theater, please contact a Reservation Specialist at 844.384.8080 Monday – Thursday 9:00AM CT – 5:00PM CT or Friday 9:00AM CT – 4:00PM CT or complete THIS FORM no later than December 31, 2023.

Is wheelchair assistance provided at the cruise terminal pre and post cruise?

Royal Caribbean offers boarding and departure assistance to guests in wheelchairs or with mobility disabilities. Please note, a Royal Caribbean Reservation Number will be required at the time the request is made. The Reservation Number will be provided via email from The 80s Cruise approximately 120 days prior to the sailing.

Will we be tendering or docking at the ports of call?

At some ports, the ship may anchor offshore, and guests are taken to shore by small boats called tenders. Even if scheduled to dock at a pier, circumstances may require the Captain to anchor offshore, and utilize tenders for transport to the Port. Guests with assistive devices who are unable to take a few steps will likely be unable to board tenders unless roll-on capability is available. To safely board most tenders, guests must be able to take steps and use a collapsible manual wheelchair. In addition, motorized wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be taken on tenders, unless roll-on capability is available. Please note roll-on capability is not guaranteed.

Can Royal Caribbean accommodate guests with dietary restrictions?

Royal Caribbean makes every effort to accommodate dietary requirements for all guests onboard. 'There Is Almost Nothing Casual,' Nicolas Ghesquière On The LV 2025 Cruise Collection

W hen it comes to fashion's Cruise Collection outings, Nicolas Ghesquière's extravaganza shows are always among the hotly anticipated. Now in his tenth year as Creative Director at the French House, his latest instalment is a testament to why.

From the graphic suiting to the leather tassel accessories, as the designer said himself, 'there is almost nothing causal' about this collection. The show's location certainly set the mood: pulling into port at Barcelona's Park Güell, a UNESCO heritage site designed by renegade architect Antoni Gaudí.

FIND OUT MORE ON ELLE COLLECTIVE

The otherworldly garden featured sloping walkways, glittering mosaics and towering columns — providing a breathtaking backdrop to the 56-look collection. 'For me, it's incredible, an example of Gaudí's fantasy, and the layers of creativity that it has expressed is so unique', the designer told ELLE UK ahead of the show. Ghesquière has now weaved his Cruise fantasy into the park's centuries-old history with 'echoes of the city and of Gaudí in the collection.'

Over the past 10 years, Ghesquière has created a catalogue of love letters to some of the world's most beautiful cities and their architectural wonders. This latest show is 'another travel notebook,' said Ghesquière. 'We have been writing the story with LV for a decade now.'

For the Cruise 2025 collection, inspiration was found in the locale and the vibrant culture of Spain itself, which the designer sees as a place of duality. 'When I think of Spain, I think about grandness,' Ghesquière said, while also acknowledging the vibrant youth culture of the European capital. He also looked to classic sources like Velasquez and Goya and the Spanish film Asbestos .

The show began with intent. Graphic suit jackets and wide-brim off-kilter fedoras brought serious 80s energy . Models, hands in pockets and sunglasses on, descended the stone staircases into the column-framed 'Hypostyle Room' as the show lights came up. A low-fi 80s soundscape featuring Music for Chameleon s by Gary Numan and Madame Butterfly by Malcolm McLaren played in the background.

From the celebrity-studded front row to the accessories to keep your eye out for, here's everything you need to know about the show.

The Location

In keeping with his usual penchant for architectural wonders, Nicolas Ghesquière chose Barcelona's Park Güell to anchor the 2025 Cruise Collection. Designed by the inimitable Antoni Gaudí, the show saw 56 looks weave through the iconic garden's curved stone structures and mosaic detailing.

The show began in the famed cavernous walkways before models made their way into the famed Hypostyle Room, the front row was seated beneath its domed ceilings and towering columns.

The Front Row

It was a glittering affair: Hollywood's finest turned up en masse. The LV-It Girl crew was in attendance, of course. Saoirse Ronan paired her textured chin-length bob with a black buckled coat dress, while Chloë Grace Moretz made a case for warm-weather leather in block-coloured biker trousers and a silky black shirt.

Sophie Turner literally turned heads with her new collar-length blonde hairstyle; the actress wore a baby pink two-piece 60s-style suit and completed her look with a miniature white bag. Phoebe Dyenvor looked great in a black leather mini-skirt and high-shine boots, while tennis superstar Naomi Osaka sparkled in a sheer skirt rendered smart-casual with a soft grey roll neck. Cynthia Erivo brought some serious cool girl energy in her faux-fur oversized shawl, white T-shirt and hanky-hem skirt.

The Clothes

The colour palette for the opening looks was elevated and neutral, though '80s styling notes and gold-detail brooches brought plenty of flare. Super shoulder pads were a nod to Ghesquière's command of tailoring, while later looks demonstrated his mastery of draping, with silky tops and cowl necks front and centre.

There was a lot of sheer to look at, too; particularly striking were the polka dot iterations, which came in pussy bow blouses and floor-length, sheer gowns. The quartet of glittering caplet dresses was a particular highlight, rendered futuristic with overlaid body harnesses.

Trousers referred to the movie Asbestos, among Ghesquière's inspiration sources, which manifested as equestrian tailoring and jodhpur style cuts. Texture also took centre stage with glittering leather, tassel-covered lapels and pleated, raw-edge organza fabrics.

The closing looks were a big standout, with bubble hems and body-transforming cuts. The skirts were particularly effective, especially the beige-toned, knee length style, paired with an exaggerated navel-barring top in bright red.

The Accessories

Ghesquière has called it: The Fedora hat is back, and is best styled off-kilter and with Princess Anne-style sunglasses for the coming season.

There were two key footwear standouts, too: the high-shine, prismatic pointed-toe boots in black and silver, and the tassel-covered boots.

As for bags, the smaller, the better. Evening-style clutches with short straps or shoulder chains came in classic leather hues and gunmetal greys. There were also nods to LV's luggage legacy with tiny suitcase-inspired box styles. Go hands-free and note the double-pocket criss-cross belt variety.

Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière typically selects an architectural masterpiece as the backdrop for his resort collections, and Barcelona’s Park Güell, the fairy-tale park designed by modernist architect Antoni Gaudi, ticked all the boxes for his cruise 2025 show.

At the golden hour, a battalion of celebrities including Sophie Turner, Ana de Armas, Jaden Smith, Phoebe Dynevor, Naomi Osaka and K-pop star Felix gathered for preshow cocktails at the hillside venue known for its serpentine benches covered in colorful mosaic fragments.

“It’s huge and it’s spectacular,” said Cynthia Erivo. “All the shapes and the sculptures on the rooftops are wild and whimsical. It’s really, really beautiful.”

The “Wicked” star said she loves seeing the traveling collection alight in different destinations.

“It’s really special because you get to see what has inspired the pieces that will come down the runway, and combining sculpture and structure with pieces that are usually structural feels really inspired. It feels really ‘kismet.’ I like the combination of a place and a piece together,” she said.

As dusk fell, guests were ushered into the Hypostyle Room, where benches snaked around a forest of Doric-style columns. The surreal setting proved a fitting backdrop for a lineup that zoomed between ‘80s couture references and equestrian touches.

Ghesquière gave the collection a distinct Spanish flavor, with a “sombra y sol” palette that played out in monochrome silhouettes, many topped with graphic sombrero hats. He sprinkled flamenco-inspired polka dots and glossy fringe into his signature architectural looks, but steered well clear of pastiche.

Rather, the show — with its soundtrack combining Gary Numan’s “Music for Chameleons” with Malcolm McLaren’s “Madame Butterfly” — suggested a mood.

Think Barcelona’s gilded youth heading to a black-tie party circa 1986. Ghesquière played with that era’s exaggerated volumes with jewel-colored satin pouf dresses and tiered puffball skirts. Jodhpurs came with flouncy draped hips, while metallic floral embroideries echoed Gaudi’s swirling organic designs.

Ghesquière’s vision of Spain was as strange and twisty as Barcelona’s colorful facades, and it was just as well.

Vuitton is making it presence felt in the city ahead of sailing’s biggest event, the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Barcelona, which kicks off in late summer. A dedicated capsule collection , unveiled last week, will cover all the sporting needs of the brand’s customers.

For pure escapism, this was just the right trip.

Harris announces plans to help 80% of Africa gain access to the internet, up from 40% now

WASHINGTON — (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris announced Friday the formation of a new partnership to help provide internet access to 80% of Africa by 2030, up from roughly 40% now.

The announcement comes as follow-through on Harris' visit to the continent last year and in conjunction with this week's visit to Washington by Kenyan President William Ruto. Harris and the Kenyan leader had a public chat on Friday at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce about how public-private partnerships can increase economic growth.

“Many could rightly argue that the future is on the continent of Africa,” said Harris, noting that the median age in Africa is 19, a sign of the potential for economic growth. “It is not about, and simply about aid, but about investment and understanding the capacity that exists.”

Africa has struggled to obtain the capital needed to build up its industrial and technological sectors. The United Nations reported last year that foreign direct investment in the continent fell to $45 billion in 2022, from a record high $80 billion in 2021. Africa accounted for only 3.5% of foreign direct investment worldwide, even though it makes up roughly 18% of the global population.

Besides launching the nonprofit Partnership for Digital Access in Africa, Harris announced an initiative geared toward giving 100 million African people and businesses in the agricultural sector access to the digital economy.

The African Development Bank Group along with Mastercard, among other organizations, will help form the Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy Alliance, or MADE. The alliance will start a pilot program to give digital access to 3 million farmers in Kenya, Tanzania and Nigeria, before expanding elsewhere.

Harris, a Democrat and the first female U.S. vice president, also announced that the Women in the Digital Economy efforts to address the gender divide in technology access have now generated more than $1 billion in public and private commitments, with some federal commitments pending congressional approval.

Family provides new update on GA grandmother who got sick on cruise, stuck in Dominican Republic

I tried Princess Cruise's premier package. At just $80 a day, it's one of the best deals at sea.

  • I paid about $80 a day for a premier package on a recent Princess Cruise .
  • The fee got me unlimited room service, onboard WiFi, premium desserts, and more.
  • The package was an incredible value and it made my trip feel luxurious.

Insider Today

I've been on 18 cruises and I absolutely love them.

I wake up in a new place every morning and unpack only once. Most of my meals are planned and paid for in advance, and I feel the ocean breeze every time I step out onto my cabin's balcony .

The only letdown is when the bill that arrives the night before each cruise ends contains more charges than I'd kept track of in my head.

I hate the wallet-wrenching surprise of that final invoice, filled with a few more drinks than I remember ordering, the WiFi I couldn't live without, and the specialty dining restaurants I splurged on.

But all that changed the moment I discovered the Premier Cruises' Premier Princess package on Princess Cruises during a family vacation on the Regal Princess in December.

Although my parents, brother, and brother's girlfriend went à la carte with their onboard purchases, my fiancé and I ordered the premier package.

It gave us a huge leg up throughout the trip. Here's why it may be worth considering if you're planning to sail with Princess Cruises.

For just $80 per person per day, we got tons of perks

The premier package costs $80 per day per guest, which amounts to $560 per person on a seven-day sailing (or $1,120 per couple).

At first glance, that sounds like a significant additional line item — but not when you compare the included items to the cruise's à la carte costs.

Princess Cruises' Premier Princess package includes:

  • WiFi: Up to four devices per guest
  • Beverages: Premium drinks (up to $20 each), bottled water, specialty coffee and juice bar
  • Crew appreciation: Mandatory prepaid tips
  • Professional photos: Unlimited digital photos and three prints
  • Specialty multi-course meals: Two per sailing
  • Meals at casual-dining restaurants: Unlimited
  • Premium desserts: Unlimited treats from specialty venues
  • OceanNow: Fee waived for food and drink delivery anywhere on board
  • Room service delivery: Unlimited
  • Fitness classes: Unlimited classes by Xpotential (Pure Barre, Yoga Six, and Stretch Lab)
  • Reserved theatre seating
  • Princess Prizes: Win prizes like wine tasting, onboard credit, and more by opening your door during certain hours

I didn't indulge a ton on my trip but I still saved money with the premier package

Right off the bat, passengers must pay $16/day for crew appreciation (read: gratuities). Crew appreciation is included in my package, so that's $112 of the $560 I paid for the package accounted for.

I'm a light drinker, so I only ordered two alcoholic drinks a day: usually a pre-dinner cocktail ($15 to $20 à la carte) and a glass of wine with dinner ($10).

Related stories

I sometimes got a soda with lunch ($2.50) or a specialty coffee ($3 to $4) at breakfast. That totals $27.50 to $34 a day, or $192.50 to $238 a week for a week of drinks if they were à la carte.

For the record, though, the premier package includes 15 alcoholic beverages daily, so you can drink far more than I did and order over $2,000 worth of drinks in a week.

I also saved on onboard WiFi, an essential for me because I'm always working and sharing my adventures in real time on Instagram .

Since I use both a phone and a laptop, I'd need to connect at least two devices. That would typically cost $40 a day, but up to four devices are included with the package. So that's a savings of $280.

If you're keeping tabs, I've now accounted for more than the cost of the premier package with just drinks, gratuities, and WiFi.

With our savings already more than accounted for, everything else was a bonus

For instance, I enjoy breaking up the monotony of eating in the main dining room with visits to such specialty restaurants as Sabatini's Italian Trattoria, Crown Grill, or The Catch by Rudi. Cover charges at these eateries range from $35 to $39 per person. I dined at two during my sailing, which would have totaled $74 without the package.

Because this was our first family vacation in about a decade, getting family photos was also a priority. So most nights before dinner, we visited the various portrait stations around the ship.

With the premier package, I was given an unlimited number of digital images, so we didn't have to make difficult decisions about which photos to keep and which to discard.

We ended up with more than a dozen digital photos and six prints. On the other hand, my brother and his girlfriend bought some of their couples-only photos and paid $191.75 for five digital photos.

Plus, my fiancé and I indulged in a few premium desserts ($10 each à la carte), I took a fitness class to help balance them out ($30 à la carte), and we made use of the OceanNow service that delivers food or drinks to you anywhere on board ($15 one-time fee).

Overall, my package basically paid for itself, and then some

Overall, I'd estimate we saved at least $275 per person by choosing this package — and we used the included perks rather conservatively since we just aren't big drinkers.

But even if you only plan to have two drinks a day like we did, this package basically pays for itself.

It's worth noting that you can only order the package before you board or through the second day of your sailing. Both passengers in a stateroom must sign up for it.

If one of you doesn't drink alcohol or doesn't care to be connected to WiFi, it probably won't make financial sense to purchase this package.

But the best part of having this package was that I never felt nickeled and dimed and was able to just enjoy a week with my family in the Caribbean .

I didn't stress about putting any extras "on my tab" because I knew my final bill would be a fixed cost I'd already made peace with. And by doing so, I certainly came out ahead.

Anyway, I have found a car service that will take hubby and I to cruise port for €80 (2 x €40). My other choice is to take public transportation (I assume from Termini station). What would you do? Save the money or pay for the convenience? We need to be at ship by 2:00 pm. Thanks!

Given the fact that using the train would have additional costs for a taxi to a train station and maybe one in Civitavecchia from station to port, the door-to-door limo sounds appealing.

Can you easily manage your luggage? If you have several pieces of luggage, you need to consider getting it from the hotel TO the train station, then to the correct platform, then load it onto the train, and when you reach Civi transfer it onto the bus for your ride to the ship.

So I'd say your luggage is the determining factor.

the 80s cruise.com

It sounds like you're looking at a shared shuttle and not a private transfer. If you're okay with that then that's probably the best option. I would either take the train or a private transfer rather than share a shuttle but it really depends on your needs.

LONDON (AP) — For one night only, the utilitarian, concrete basement of London’s Tate Modern museum was transformed into a lush green jungle — and it was the hottest fashion ticket in town.

Luxury Italian fashion house Gucci hosted its star-studded cruise collection catwalk at the Thames-side modern art museum Monday, showing a series of delicate sheer outfits, relaxed denim and daywear, all adorned with the brand’s coveted leather bags and other accessories with the double-G logo.

Singers Dua Lipa and Solange Knowles were on the front row with supermodel Kate Moss and her daughter Lila, along with actors Demi Moore, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott. Also in attendance were Salma Hayek and her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, who is chair and CEO of Kering, Gucci’s parent company.

It was a big-budget event and the first cruise collection by Sabato De Sarno, who was named Gucci’s creative director last year and debuted his womenswear designs in September.

Gucci normally stages its shows in Milan, but like other fashion powerhouses it chooses locations around the world to show off its cruise, or resort, collections — the shows in between the main spring and autumn displays. Last year’s destination was the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea.

Now researchers say it comes with a health warning. (Zac Goodwin/PA via AP)

On Monday, models meandered down a runway that wound its way around hundreds of ferns, overhanging plants and mossy paths, the mass of green a contrast to the grey, industrial show space. De Sarno said that contrast extends to his latest designs, which paired luxurious evening looks and floral embroidery with casual jackets and slouchy denim.

And what of the footwear? Comfort comes first, with all outfits, even the most glamorous evening gowns, paired with Mary Jane shoes, ballet flats or platform loafers worn with little white socks.

“Rigor and extravagance, strength in delicacy, Englishness with an Italian accent,” the show notes read.

De Sarno featured a few checked jackets in a nod to British style, though some other designs were a much more subtle tribute. Dresses and coats covered with squares made of a shimmering bead fringe were a reference to Scottish plaids.

Titled “We’ll always have London,” the show was partly a love letter to the British capital, which the brand says plays a key role in its founding story more than a century ago. Its founder, Guccio Gucci, traveled to London as a teenager and had a stint working as a bellhop in the Savoy, the luxury London hotel.

The brand says Guccio took inspiration from that experience when he opened his first store in Florence in 1921 to sell luggage. The rest, as they say, is history.
