Norfolk Visitor > Norfolk Naval Base
Naval Station Norfolk
Norfolk, Virginia, is the proud home of the largest naval base in the world. No matter what your reason is for visiting Norfolk, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to tour Naval Station Norfolk .
Naval Station Norfolk's mission is to support and improve the personnel and logistics readiness of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. The Norfolk naval base provides seaport, airport, and squadron facilities, quality of life, and personnel management services.
Don't miss the tours of the Naval Base . The 45-minute tour departs from the Naval Tour and Information Center located at 9079 Hampton Blvd, next to Gate 5. Bus tours conducted by Navy personnel ride past aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, amphibious assault ships and the busy airfield. The tour also drives by historic homes from the 1907 Jamestown Exposition. There is a charge for the tour. A picture ID is required for all adults.
Naval Station Norfolk, the world's largest Naval Station, occupies about 4,300 acres on a peninsula known as Sewells Point. Port facilities extend more than four miles along the waterfront and include some seven miles of pier and wharf space.
75 ships and 134 aircraft are home-ported here, and when they are not at sea they're along side one of the 13 piers or inside one of the 11 aircraft hangars for repair, refit, training and to provide the ship's or squadron's crew an opportunity to be with their families. Naval Station Norfolk is homeport to aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, large amphibious ships, submarines, supply ships, airplanes and helicopters.
Air Operations conducts over 100,000 flight operations each year, an average of 275 flights per day or one every six minutes. Over 150,000 passengers and 264,000 tons of mail and cargo depart annually on Air Mobility Command aircraft and other chartered flights from the NSN airfield. It is the hub for Navy logistics going to the European and Central Command theaters of operations, and to the Caribbean.
The land on which Naval Station is located was originally the site of the 1907 Jamestown Exposition , a mammoth 300th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the first permanent English settlement in America in 1607. 21 states constructed buildings that celebrated their history and industry. Pennsylvania House, a 2/3rds replica of Independence Hall, is one of several state houses that are still standing at the Naval Station.
During the Jamestown Exposition, high-ranking naval officers agreed that this site was ideal for naval activity. After the United States entered World War I in April 1917, the Secretary of the Navy was persuaded to buy the property.
Victory Rover Naval Base Cruise
The Victory Rover makes 2-hour narrated cruises past Naval Station Norfolk. It departs from Nauticus on the downtown waterfront. Enjoy a fascinating and entertaining commentary along the way aboard this Navy-themed vessel. See aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, guided missile cruisers and all of the other ships that form the world's most powerful fleet. On board, guests will enjoy plenty of comfortable seating, clean restrooms, air-conditioned enclosed deck, open-air upper deck, snack bar and souvenir shop.
Reservations are available. Bring a camera and binoculars.
Hampton Roads Naval Museum at Nauticus & the Battleship Wisconsin
The Hampton Roads Naval Museum presents 225 years of naval history in the Hampton Roads region. The museum is also responsible for the historic interpretation and day-to-day operations of the Battleship Wisconsin.
The Hampton Roads Naval Museum and the entrance to the Battleship Wisconsin are located on the second floor of Nauticus : The National Maritime Center in downtown Norfolk (at One Waterside Drive). There is no on-site parking, but there are several city operated parking garages within walking distance.

- Chevron down 1. Downtown Area
The tour begins in Seattle’s bustling downtown core, highlighting the Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, Shopping District, and the world’s first Starbucks.
- Chevron down 2. Pioneer Square & Stadium District
Seattle’s original downtown is now a 35-square-block historic district filled with turn-of-the-century Romanesque architecture, art galleries, and trendy restaurants, all of which border the sports stadiums for the Seahawks, Sounders, and Mariners.
- Chevron down 3. International District & Waterfront
Home to Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Cambodian, and Hmong communities, this neighborhood continues to play a role in Seattle’s multicultural identity. Seattle’s waterfront includes the aquarium, Ferris wheel, classic seafood restaurants, funky souvenir shops, historic piers, and ferry and water taxi terminals.
- Chevron down 4. Seattle Center & Queen Anne View Point
The Seattle Center is a 72-acre urban park and is the site of the 1962 World’s Fair. It’s the home of the Space Needle, Paul Allen’s Experience Music Project, Dale Chihuly’s Garden and Glass exhibition, and the Pacific Science Center.
Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill provides a dramatic panoramic photo opportunity of Seattle’s skyline. You also view the spectacular architecture and aesthetic in one of the city’s more exclusive, old-money neighborhoods.
- Chevron down 5. Fremont Neighborhood & Magnolia Bluff
Fremont neighborhood, famous for its outdoor art and nude bicyclists in the Summer Solstice parade, is also a microcosm of the challenges Seattle faces as it grapples with growth. This once-quirky bohemian artist colony is now transforming into a high-tech powerhouse with offices for Google, Tableau, and Adobe while remaining true to its artsy roots.
The views just keep coming! Along with our stop in Fremont, we visit the rocky peaks and grassy knolls of Magnolia Bluff. This northwest Seattle neighborhood sits atop a peninsula looking out upon Elliott Bay. Watch ferries and boats float across the water, with West Seattle, Bainbridge Island, and even majestic Mt. Rainier in the distance on a clear day.

Shore excursions: What new cruisers need to know
The fun of a cruise is equal parts what you do on board and what you do on shore. Cruise lines offer a full schedule of shore excursions to help you make the most of your time in port. However, the process of choosing and booking tours can be overwhelming for new cruisers.
I've taken shore excursions around the world, both ship-run and independent, and spent many days in port wandering on my own. Allow me to take you through the basics of cruise shore excursions, so you can learn to have the most fun no matter what your budget is.
For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .
What is a cruise shore excursion?
A shore excursion is a group tour or activity aimed at cruise travelers who can only spend a limited time in each port they're visiting on their itinerary.
A shore excursion could be a sightseeing bus tour, a guided visit to a museum or historic site, an athletic activity (like a hike, bike ride or snorkel outing), a day at the beach or a cooking or dance class. Shore excursions typically highlight the marquee attractions or culture of the destination you're visiting. Sometimes an excursion will take you to sites within walking distance of your cruise; on other occasions, they might take you on a day trip to a nearby city.
Some shore excursions are targeted at families or can easily accommodate children. Some can accommodate passengers with mobility issues or other disabilities . Others may require a minimum level of fitness and are not suitable for everyone.
Shore excursions may be sold by your cruise line and organized with a partner provider. They can also be purchased through independent operators or third-party tour sellers.
Do you have to buy shore excursions on a cruise?
In most cases, you don't need to book a shore excursion to explore a port of call. You can simply walk off the ship and stroll into town or catch a cab to take you wherever you want to go.
However, in some destinations, a shore excursion, or independently operated guided tour, is highly encouraged. This could be in places where it's difficult to navigate as a foreigner who can't speak the language or understand street signs or where the tourism infrastructure is not yet fully developed.
Can I book a shore excursion on my own instead of through my cruise line?
Yes. I use many factors to decide whether to take a ship's tour, book an independent excursion or explore on my own in port. However, if you're a novice traveler, you might want to book ship tours exclusively because they're the simplest, easiest and most convenient options.
The benefits to a cruise line's shore excursions are that they depart from and return to the ship; you don't need to figure out where to meet a guide in a port you've never visited. Better still, should an unexpected problem (traffic, a medical emergency) occur during your outing, the ship will not leave port until all of its own tours have returned.
Independent tours, on the other hand, can be cheaper than cruise ship tours. I once saved hundreds of dollars organizing a group to go on an overnight, independently operated excursion to see Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza from Port Said, Egypt; the ship's tours were incredibly marked up. Also, if you have a particular interest, the ship might not offer a tour for the activity or attraction you're excited about.
Related: Ship-sponsored vs. independent shore excursions on cruises: Which should you book?
Some third-party operators will customize a tour for you or your group, so you can spend more time at the places you most want to see. Sometimes these tour groups are also smaller than the large cruise ship tours — which can carry 30 to 60 people in a bus — so you will spend less time waiting for everyone.
Finally, some ports are simply wonderful to walk around, popping into shops and local restaurants or bars, going where you will. I've skipped tours in places like Key West, Florida; Tallinn, Estonia; Monaco; Nassau, Bahamas; Skagway, Alaska; Geiranger, Norway; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. A map and a guidebook got me where I wanted to go.
How much are shore excursions on a cruise?
Cruise shore excursion prices vary widely depending on the cost of living in the cruise destination, what type of activity is involved and whether it's a full- or half-day tour. Young children often pay a reduced rate for tours.
Looking at Princess Cruises ' shore excursions in Grand Cayman, a 2.5-hour stingray swim costs $70 per person, a 5-hour scenic island drive costs $100, and a 4-hour, two-tank scuba dive costs $180. In Juneau, Alaska, a 3-hour tour to the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center costs $50 per person. A 3-hour gold panning activity and salmon bake costs $125, while a 2.25-hour tour to take a helicopter ride to the top of the glacier, where you can walk around on the ice for half an hour, costs $420.
Some cruise lines, such as Viking and Regent Seven Seas Cruises , include the cost of basic shore excursions in their cruise fares. If you don't care to do any specialty tours, you might be able to get all your port activities for free. Other lines, such as Norwegian Cruise Line , offer discounted tours or shore excursion credit as booking promotions .

What's the best way to book shore excursions?
If you plan to book shore excursions through your cruise line, you have a couple of options of how to book them.
You can book your tours online in advance, or have your travel agent do it for you. This is the best route if there's a ship's tour you absolutely want to take and you don't want to risk its selling out. Book your tours the minute they open for reservations. When my parents traveled on a luxury Regent Seven Seas cruise, they said that waiting until the next morning to book tours meant that some of their choices were sold out.
The downside to booking tours in advance is that some cruise lines require that you pay for the tours in full, rather than putting them on your final cruise bill. It means you're out the money in advance and it can be difficult to use onboard credit to cover the cost of excursions booked online.
Related: Avoid these mistakes when booking cruise shore excursions
Alternatively, you can wait until you're on the ship and book your excursion in person at the shore excursions desk. You'll be able to ask the staff questions about the tours, and the charges will be added to your final cruise bill. However, you do run the risk that a popular tour might be sold out by the time you're ready to book.
The same is true with independent tours. Most people organize these ahead of time through a tour operator or travel agent. However, in popular cruise ports, there are often representatives waiting at the port or at a tourist office who can book you on same-day tours if space is available.
Is it cheaper to book shore excursions on the ship?
No. Most cruise lines either charge the same prices for shore excursions booked online and on board or offer a discount for tours purchased in advance. For example, Royal Caribbean often advertises up to 30% off select tours reserved ahead of the sailing.
Do I need to tip on shore excursions?
Whether you're on a cruise line sponsored or independent shore excursion, a best practice is to tip your tour guides at the end of the tour. Exceptions are if tips are included in the price or if you're visiting a country with a non-tipping culture, where offering cash would be awkward.
Related: Ultimate guide to tipping on cruise ships
Tipping is a personal matter, and there are no hard and fast rules. I canvassed TPG's cruise team and we agreed that we give roughly $5 to $10 per person for half-day tours and $10 to $20 per person for full-day excursions, adjusted for service and quality. Tip non-guide drivers roughly $2 per person in your party.
You'll likely want to tip more for customized, private tours — consider 5 to 20% of the cost of the tour.
How do I get the most from my cruise shore excursion?
The key to getting the most from your cruise shore excursion is to know what you want and make sure the tour description matches your expectations. I find that the more I cruise, the less I take ship-sponsored shore excursions because they don't offer exactly what I want.
For example, if you're considering a bus tour, make sure you understand how much time will be spent sitting on the bus and how much time will be at the destination or attraction, whether you will be looking at or going inside key attractions and whether there's free time to explore. If it's an activity, like snorkeling or a helicopter tour, read up on how much time is spent in transit and prep and how much time you will spend actually doing the activity.
Be sure to note the fitness level required and don't try to take on more than you're able to do. If you struggle with mobility, check to see if there's a lot of walking on uneven ground like cobblestones.
Related: 11 cruise ship excursions to avoid
If the tour takes place over lunchtime, check to see if a meal is included or if you have time to pick up something to eat.
Personally, I find that organized tours are best when the excursion is an activity I can't do on my own (such as kayaking, zip lining or a winery tour); when long distances are involved where I don't want to bother with public transportation or renting a car on a one-day visit; or when the culture is foreign enough that independent exploration would be tricky. Sometimes you also need an expert guide, such as in Pompeii, to know what you're seeing.
Bottom line
Shore excursions are a great way to make the most of your time in port, but you might get the most value out of a mix of guided tours and independent exploration. Choose the best option based on your budget and interests, and remember to look at both ship-sponsored and independent tour and activity options. And if you feel like staying on board one day while your ship is docked in a port that doesn't interest you, that's okay, too.

Whittier to Anchorage Bus Tour – Full Day Detailed Description
Disembark your cruise ship and board the bus. Start your adventure with a short glance at World War II relic which is what Whittier looks like with abandoned war buildings. Then pass through the 2.5-mile-long Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel to leave Whittier, which is the largest highway tunnel in North America. Continue on the Whittier/Portage Glacier Access Road that connects Seward Highway with Whittier. Glaciers from an earlier period carved the steep mountain slopes in this magnificent valley. Explorer Glacier can be seen high on the mountain. A stop will be made at the Begich Boggs Visitor Center to see the glaciology exhibits. You will also have the opportunity to take pictures of glacial ice that has calved into Portage Lake.
Next visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where you can view bison, elk, eagles, moose, caribou, and musk oxen in a natural setting. Continue on the highway, view the remains of Portage, a small town ravaged in the 1964 earthquake.
Next stop is at Girdwood at Alyeska Ski Resort. Take a tram up the Alyeska Mountain 2,300 feet to enjoy the spectacular views of seven glaciers, majestic mountains and Turnagain Arm (if weather permits) Eat your lunch (variety of sandwiches, water) on top of the mountain with a breathtaking views. Continuing North on the Seward, Turnagain Arm stretches on the left side of the road, where often you can see Dall sheep at Windy point or beluga whales at Beluga point (drive by). Check out the progress of salmon fisherman below the bridges along the highway. Just south of Anchorage, the road borders Potter Marsh, a portion of the Anchorage Coastal Waterfowl Refuge.
Arrive to Anchorage – largest city in Alaska. Most visitors that come to Alaska to experience the “true wilderness” tend to overlook Anchorage, but it’s well worth spending some time here experiencing the only big-city taste that the state has to offer. Take a glance of the original tent city that started in the Ship Creek area and now also occupied by Alaska Railroad Depot. Take a quick look at the salmon waters and watch the fish running up the stream. Watch the locals trying to catch the salmon. Next drive by the Earthquake Park, which now stands on the land liquefied – swallowing the coast line when the “Good Friday” earthquake rocked Anchorage in March of 1964. The park carries monuments and reader boards with information on the great quake.
Continue on to the stop at Point Woronzof, is a great opportunity to see Cook Inlet and the whole city from the distance. Next you will get to see Lake Hood, which is the largest and busiest floatplane base in the world. Lake Hood is a great place to relax and watch the many landings and takeoffs of floatplanes. Then back to downtown where you get to see a whole downtown area. While enjoying the ride make sure to notice Anchorage’s famous flowers and great shopping areas! We will drop off anywhere in Anchorage after the tour ends.
This tour is fully narrated by our wonderful driver Tim, who is also a full time dog musher in the winter time. He and his wife have a dog team that they personally train and support year around. Visit his Facebook page to learn more. Our company is a proud supporter of his team and hope he is able to run in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race some day!
About Whittier, Alaska
If one one the Whittier cruises your final destination you might find following facts interesting. Whittier is Anchorage’s portal to Prince William Sound. Although Anchorage itself in on Upper Cook Inlet, the highest tides in the Northern America, muddy, fast-moving water offers no use for boating. Whittier, on the other hand, stands on the edge of a long fjord, whose clear waters are full of salmon orcas, and otters. Surrounded by mountains dripping with glaciers which are beautiful when the sun is shining, they also trap storms over the town and as a result 15 feet of rain and 20 feet of snow a year is average. Most of town’s 250 residents live in one 14-story structure, which certainly cuts down on snow-shoveling time.
In the past, the only way to get to from Anchorage to Whittier cruises was by riding through the mountain by train. Now the railway tunnel is paved creating North America’s longest highway tunnel and providing opportunities for buses, shuttles, and motorcoaches to take you to Anchorage. Whittier to Anchorage All Day Bus Tour offers shuttles and tours.
There are lots of exciting things to do in Whittier or Seward transportation such as hiking, fishing for salmon, trout, red snapper, photography, hunting for bear and birds, wildlife viewing, and much more right here in Whittier, Alaska!

Tour Reviews
Transfer from Whittier to Anchorage Full day tour To make good use of time we decided to do a tour on disembarking from the cruise ship in Whittier on our way to Anchorage. If you have time this was a great way to see some sights given you are on the way to Anchorage anyway. We stopped at Portage which was beautiful seeing a ice covered lake. Onto the wildlife park where you could see Alaskan animals and then to a lunch stop at Alaeska Resort with a tram ride included in the price. The views were lovely and we even had snow falling at the top. Lunch was simple sandwiches and after a cruise of over eating it was just right. Our driver Tim had good information about the areas mixed in with some average jokes. There are a few Anchorage City highlights (Lake Hood, Ship creek, Ulu factory and earthquake park area) on the way to your drop off. Easy to find sign in the cruise terminal and organized check in, with plenty of room for your luggage. We enjoyed the tour.

Great day trip if you have a late flight out of Anchorage from Whittier Sherry, the tour guide did a good job of giving us insights into Alaska and Anchorage history. The bus driver was very friendly and personable. I highly recommend the service.
Family Meeting at the cruise terminal was friending …day tour was very interesting and thank you for bringing our left luggage on the bus to our hotel..will use your service again next time …..
Great full day tour on the way to the airport Rather than taking the direct bus to the airport (9 hours prior to my flight time) I chose to get the full day tour from Whittier to Anchorage. My driver was Alan and tour guide was Sherry. Sherry was hilarious to listen to (I’m a sucker for the lame punch-liners) and she was full of them. Together, her and Alan really knew a lot of cool information about the sights. When we stopped to take pictures, I definitely felt like I had enough time to soak in the beauty and take 100000 pictures, definitely did not feel rushed in any way. I had one disappointment only and that was the weather. When we stopped at the Alyeska resort and up the tram, all I saw was clouds. I was unable to appreciate the true beauty of the “seven glaciers” from the top. But of course, ATC and Sherry literally had no say in the weather. If anything, she actually tried very hard for us to enjoy it as much as we possibly could.
Great way to end an Alaskan Northbound Cruise from Whittier to Anchorage We finished our cruise on July 1st at 8:00am in Whittier, AK. Our flight was not until 11:30 pm in Anchorage, AK. There are no taxis from Whittier to Anchorage.
I did some research and found a great tour from 8:45am until 4:00pm with ACT. This ended up being the best tour of the Cruise because of the guide Levi. He was awesome!
We started with a quick tour of Whittier. Then we waited for a 9:00am tunnel time. We stopped at several scenic vistas. The wildlife refuge with black/brown bears, elk, bison, foxes, moose, porcupine, wolves, eagle, owls, and many other animals. After we went to the Alyeska ski resort for lunch and a hike. We had an extensive tour of Anchorage.
Levi was great! He is very knowledgeable, kind, funny, and personable. He made the tour a great time. Lastly, he recommended the Glacier Brew House for dinner, the food was incredible.
Nice bus, great driver/guide. Took this bus from our ship terminal to our hotel. Made some stops for scenery, animal watching and a box lunch. Allan, the driver/guide was entertaining and courteous and helpful. The scenery was marred by a constant light rain. The bus dropped us directly at our hotel.
Wonderful All-Day Bus Tour Our disembarkation was 7am and our flight departure was at 9pm so we had time to take the all-day bus tour. It was a very enlightening experience. We had unhurried stops at Portage Glacier viewpoint. Alyeska Aerial tram ride was also included. The wildlife conservation center was fun for the kids. Our driver was friendly and knowledgable and very accommodating. ACT is one provider that is allowed to meet the passengers inside the Princess Cruises Terminal so we were very comfortable while waiting. Others had to walk out to the parking lot to meet up with their transfers. I can’t imagine doing that if it rains.
Exceptional Value Trip was excellent. Alan, our driver/guide was exceptional. Particularly pleased with the choice of events and quality of the lunch. Recommend w/o any reservations.
Fun Full Day Transfer Great way to spend the day before an evening flight out of Anchorage. Picked us up right at the port after our cruise. Allen, our tour guide, was packed full of info about the area. We stopped at Alyeska Ski Resort for lunch (included) and rode the tram up the mtn. (Also included). We were promptly dropped off at the airport at 4:30pm. Fun day!
“Spectacular Bus Tour” Thank you Alan & A.C.T. For making our final day in Alaska exciting & informative. You made our exit off ship and meeting us in the cruise terminal in Whittier very easy. I have nothing but compliments for the tour company and our very knowledgeable tour guide/ driver Alan. A.C.T. Don’t ever let Alan go, he’s worth his weight in GOLD! I learned more about Alaska during the tour then I did all week on the cruise. My advise to anyone considering booking this tour GO FOR IT! You will not be disappointed. Seats were very comfortable & lunch was delicious. We made it to the Airport in plenty of time to make our flight. I will be back to Alaska and definitely going to book with A.C.T- Big Bus. Hopefully Alan will be available to guide us. Thank you so much for A very pleasant experience.
A Great Final Day in Alaska We had a day to kill after departing from our Princess Cruise in Anchorage, and I booked ourselves and our friends on the Whittier to Anchorage Airport bus tour with A.C.T. We had a wonderful day! The buses were easy to find at the cruise terminal. Our guide, Alan, was entertaining and informative. We loved all the stops. The wildlife conservatory was fantastic, with rescued big game up close and personal, including wolves, bears, and moose. We had a very good outdoor boxed lunch at the beautiful Alyeska Ski Resort Hotel (and saw a wedding), then took the tram to the top of the mountain. On the way to downtown Anchorage, we pulled over for a rare sighting of wild Dall Sheep right by the highway. Anchorage was surprisingly warm and sunny, and we had a short stop to watch the salmon fishermen. We were dropped off on time at the airport. This ACT tour is a wonderful way to spent a final day in Alaska before your flight home.
Compliments to Alan the tour guide On August 23, 2017 we got off of the island princess in Alaska. Alan our tour director and driver with a CT tors greeted us with a warm welcoming. He had given us so much information about Alaska That we were just amazed. I own a travel agency and I was so impressed by his knowledge. I will be sure to spread the word to my travel agent about the super of service that a CT tours represents . And they are very experienced tour guide/driver Alan .thank you very much Di @ Let’s go trav
Whittier to Anchorage – great day out! Our cruise ship arrived in Whittier early on Saturday, so we took the ACT to Anchorage. If you have the time its a great way to spend the day – all of the stops were well worth making (the Alaska Wildlife Conservation place was a special favourite) and the tour of Anchorage itself at the end very informative. Our guide – Alan – was great. We were dropped at our hotel at 5pm as promised at the end of a relaxed but rewarding day of sightseeing. Very good value.
Perfect ending to our wonderful trip
We did the all day transport from Whittier to Anchorage. Our driver Alan was very knowledgeable and entertaining as he took us to the nature conservation and the aerial tram ride at Mt. Alyeska. His love for Alaska really showed in the stories and information he shared. We had a very enjoyable day on a comfortable bus. We all made it to our destination on time. Highly recommend this as a final excursion at the end of your journey.
Tour from Whittier to Anchorage
This was a great way to end our Alaskan Cruise. The bus picked us up in Whittier, took us around the tiny town of Whittier, then through the tunnel to the Alaska Wildlife Preserve. Following that we went to the ski resort of Alyaska, where we were served lunch then were able to ride the tram to the top. The tour finished up in Anchorage, where we were shown the local sights then transported to the airport for our flight home. Allen was an excellent tour guide!
All day tour
Perfect way to get from Whittier to anchorage. Comfortable bus. Easy checkin at cruise terminal. I originally booked the shorter excursion but sent an email requesting the full day. They did it and balance billed the cost of the longer excursion over shorter one. Booked online, cheaper than cruise ship.
Great Option to Transfer from Anchorage Cruise Terminal to Airport! This narrated bus tour was the perfect way for us to fill our day while being transported from the cruise terminal to the airport. The whole process from booking, boarding, touring and arrival at the airport was well organized and low stress. The motorcoach was clean and comfortable. Our driver/tour guide Alan was the best we have ever had. He was very knowledgeable and personable, provided a lot of interesting information, and had perfect enunciation/voice. We made several stops, all really nice. The highlights were the wildlife center, which showcased a large number of local animals and was excellent, and Alyeska ski resort, where we had enough time to ride the tram, and do some hiking. A very nice lunch was included. Alan made sure to check what the earliest departure time was for the group and tailored the day accordingly. This was a great experience and we highly recommend it.
Full Day Tour was nice!
Did the full day tour from Whittier to our hotel in Anchorage. This was a great way to end our cruise and start our Alaskan land tour. The Alaska Wildlife Center stop was way better than I was expecting. The Mt. Alyeska tram was nice, but I live in Colorado, so I wasn’t as impressed as others. The box lunch was fine. We also stopped at the Anchorage Market and Festival, which was a bonus stop. My dad has a hard time getting around, and the driver kindly reserved the front seat for him. This helped make his ride much more comfortable.
Great transfer from Whittier to Anchorage We had a group of 14. Alan was our driver and he was great! We saw so much on our all day tour. Went to Wildlife Center. Enjoyed seeing all the animals up close. Had a nice lunch and a wonderful time at Alyeska resort and tram ride. Great photo ops along the way. Driver Alan was excellent and very knowledgeable! Couldn’t have asked for a better transfer. This is a great tour for the price as well! via Tripadvisor
Great overview of Anchorage, Alaska We did the 1 day Anchorage tour with airport/hotel transfer costing $136. The entire excursion experience was great. Getting off our ship, we immediately spotted the tour rep who directed us to our bus which was just a 5min walk to it. Our driver, Alan, was extremely friendly. He did a great job of explaining the history/wildlife/giving us a local’s view of Anchorage. While driving on our tour, I saw an eagle flying probably about 50-100 ft away from us. The included lunch consisted of a ham sandwich generously stuffed with meat, bottle of water, apple, cookie, chips). We got 2hrs to eat lunch, check out Alyeska resort and go up the Alyeska Tram which took us up to the top of mountain for great views. The 2 things I would improve/suggest is to give us an extra 30min at the Wildlife sanctuary and an extra 30 min at the Portage Glacier (we were only given 15min to take pictures of the Glacier/lake, not enough time to visit the Visitor centre). I would definitely recommend this tour to others. via Tripadvisor
Coach transfer with wildlife, glacier and city tours Our coach transfer was fantastic! Alan was an excellent tour guide and storyteller, he even told some great corny dad jokes. The tours along the way made our experience of Alaska complete. The wildlife park enabled us to tick off all the Alaskan wildlife we wanted to see. We will recommend this coach trip to everyone. Great work ACT and Alan! via Tripadvisor
Trip to Remember Taking the tour from Whittier to Anchorage became an attraction that my wife and I will always remember. Alan, our tour guide (luggage handler, food server-LOL) was witty, extremely pleasant and outrageously informative. The tour consisted of all stops as promised as Alan explained all information as we proceeded on our journey. You must find transportation to go from Whittier to Anchorage so we highly recommend no better way than this scenic tour through ACT to get to your destination via Tripadvisor
Entertaining and educational experience We took the all-day tour from Whittier to Anchorage. Our driver, Alan, was so well-informed. He gave us so much information about the land and the people and the culture that added such depth to our experience. The scenery is awesome but this tour was so much more than that. We visited the wildlife center where we spent ample time walking around seeing many types of animals up close. The Alyeska Resort where we had picnic style lunch offered so many lovely spots to eat and enjoy the surroundings. The tram ride to the top was a bonus we all enjoyed. We also were able to stop often for photo ops, which is always important to us photo buffs! There were 16 family members in group and ages from 10-73 and each person said it was the best way to end our vacation. Highly recommend it to everyone! via Tripadvisor
Fun after the Cruise We were a group of 8 adults getting off a cruise ship. All of us were very pleased with the tour. Our driver Mike was excellent as was our guide Brenna. They both were so enthusiastic, friendly and informative. The tour provided a boxed lunch that was much much better then we anticipated. There was more than enough to eat and it was good. We made numerous stops with ample time for each. The bus itself was a nice motor coach with comfortable seating and lots of room. It was so very easy to find them as we exited the ship. I would definitely recommend this tour. via Tripadvisor
Best way to get from Whittier to Anchorage Best way to get from Wittier to Anchorage. Our guide/driver was funny and informative. Packages lunch was nice/adequate. Wonderful bus with plugins for phones. Wonderful stop offs along the way. via Tripadvisor
Excellent transfer and 7-hour tour Excellent transfer and 7 hour tour from Whittier to Anchorage after our cruise. Very efficient. Very nice bus. Allen was an excellent driver and tour guide. Very informative and funny. Highly recommend! via Tripadvisor
A Fabulous Tour for your last day in Alaska I am reviewing the full day tour from Whittier to Anchorage. Instead of going straight to the airport, we decided to make a day of it. Boy did we make the right decision. I wish I could remember our driver’s name because he was spectacular in every way. The bus was roomy and comfy and our driver kept us entertained and well informed. First we went to the Visitor Center. Complete with a movie theater and several hands-on activities. Plenty to do and see. Next stop was a wildlife conservation center, which was probably my favorite. Elk, reindeer, bison, moose, brown bears, a black bear, caribou, musk oxenA and wolves. It was very interesting to see them in this unique environment. Then we went to the Alyeska Tram and took it up to the top for a lunch stop. Lunch was provided: choice of sandwiches, chips, beef stick, fruit by the foot, cookie and water. Our driver/guide gave us interesting info all the way to Anchorage. He made one more extra stop where we could watch some of the locals fishing for salmon. He then dropped some passengers off at hotels and the last stop was the airport. A great way to spend our last day. via Tripadvisor
A wonderful full-day tour from Whittier to Anchorage with hotel drop off The tour was very good organized from start too the end. Our driver on Whittier to Anchorage full day tour Alan, was amazing. He gave us a lot of information about Alaska and the places we saw. All praise to his efforts and the knowledge he passed on to us. We got a lot of information and saw a lot of interesting things including a lot of wild animals. We would highly recommend ACT transportations espectally his driver and guide ALAN to anyone who wants to learn as much as possible about Alaska. via Tripadvisor

"Lovely, lovely people. The tour took us up the mountain and stopped off at several local beauty spots to take photos. We then went down to the beach for more photos and finally to the shop for some authentic Samoan snacks which were absolutely lovely (especially the breadfruit chips!) Our tour guides were an absolute delight to be around and were also knowledgeable and helpful. They persevered with their efforts to teach us some Samoan words, even though most of us we so old we couldn’t remember much of it, but they spent whole day with smiles on their faces. We would recommend these guys to anyone visiting Pago Pago and when they say they are the best, they very probably are! Faafetai!" -Craig Ward

WORLD WAR II SITES
American Samoa became a critical staging ground for the United States during WWII and after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the island was never the same. The U.S. marines arrived in droves and transformed American Samoa into a defensive position for the U.S., a training and staging ground for Guadalcanal, and ultimately was preparing for a Japanese invasion. Take a tour of many of the remnants of WWII and hear the stories of how this war changed the course of history of our small island nation along with the rest of the modern world.

The most beautiful part of American Samoa are the people & culture. With traditions dating back thousands of years, the Samoan way of life, or "Fa'asamoa", is alive and well. Take an up close look into the Samoan culture with this one of a kind excursion into an authentic Samoan experience!
This tour is PERFECT for our Cruise Ship visitors! It takes you up to the historic Tramway site, then we pass through the capital village of Pago Pago . We then proceed up and over the Afono Pass for an up close look at Rainmaker Mountain and a breathtaking view of Pago Pago harbor. We'll then descend into the village of Vatia to see the awesome Pola Island. We visit the Flower Pot Rock and finish up at SPW on Utulei beach - free local food & refreshments and WiFi!!
One of the best kept secrets in all of American Samoa is Aunu'u. After a short 15-minute boatride on a local fishing boat (or alia) across the channel, we begin our hike on foot. You will see incredible shorelines, lush tropical rainforest, taro plantations, freshwater crater, quicksand and more. Aunu'u Island is a National Natural Monument and sanctuary.
Manu'a consists of three main islands: Taʻu, Ofu and Olosega and is a 35 minute plane ride away from the main island of Tutuila. Samoan oral historical traditions state that Manu'a was a ruling center of a large Polynesian empire which included all of the Samoan archipelago and other nearby islands such as Tonga and Fiji and the birthplace of Polynesia. Today, Manu'a remains an unspoiled paradise and anyone looking for a true 'off the beaten path' adventure is in for a treat!
This excellent hike begins at the Tuafanua trailhead in the village of Vatia. We will hike up switchbacks through our lush, tropical rainforest to a hidden coastline. At the ridge-top, you will enjoy ocean views before a steep descent on several ladders with ropes to a quiet, rocky beach. We'll then hike up the coastline to get an up-close view of Pola Island, one of American Samoa's national natural landmarks.
This hike begins at Blunt's Point and ends at the historic aerial tramway site. We hike the ridge making our way past several WWII sites, ancient Samoan artifacts, and beautiful flora & fauna. The trail includes switchbacks to make it up the steep parts of the mountain and ropes to guide us back down.
This hike is one of the more difficult hikes on island, but the pay-off at the top of Mt. Alava is worth it! This hike begins at the trailhead at Fagasa Pass and takes you along ridge lines with views of the north and central parts of Tutuila. Enjoy hiking through a tropical Samoan rain forest with fruit bats and many types of birds.
Touring the world famous Pago Pago harbor by outrigger canoe is the only way to go! The tour begins at Utulei Beach and heads straight out of the mouth of the harbor. From there, you can see the island of Aunu'u to the east. You will also be able to see the breathtaking views of Rainmaker and Matafao mountains. Your steersman will then bring you back into the harbor, taking you past towering Mt. Pioa and all the way into the village of Pago Pago.
After a short hike down to the beach, we are rewarded with a secluded beach and bay. Fagatele Bay is a vibrant tropical reef marine ecosystem, filled with all sorts of brightly colored tropical fish, including parrot fish, damselfish and butterfly fish, as well as other sea creatures like lobster, crabs, sharks and octopus.
NOTE: We reserve the right to make changes to any or all tours on the account of weather or other factors that may impact the safety of our guests and tour guides.

Bus Shipping 101: Transport Your Bus with Heavy Haulers
Shipping a bus, especially one that hasn't been in service for a while, can be a complicated process. That's why you need a bus shipping company with experience. These large vehicles possess special challenges, not just due to their size and weight, but also because of their height and the fact that, unlike many heavy machines, can't be disassembled for easier shipment. When you add the height of the bus to the height of the trailer – usually an RGN or step deck trailer, depending on the size of the bus – it becomes a challenge to transport through tight city streets, under overpasses, or underneath traffic lights.
The logistics specialists from Heavy Haulers have the experience and information to plan your bus transport route to avoid any snags or difficulty in shipment. You'll work with your representative, setting a deadline and getting a code so you can keep up with shipping your bus in real time. With Heavy Haulers, you know you're in responsible hands. All our drivers are certified, trained, bonded, and double-insured for your safety and ours. Get started today with a FREE no-obligation quote by calling (800) 908-6206.

How Much Does It Cost To Ship a Bus?
The cost of shipping a bus varies on several factors. This includes dimensions and weight. Larger, heavier buses are going to cost more to ship than a mini bus or shuttle bus. Another factor that determines the cost of shipping a bus is how far you’re going to move it. If you’re shipping a bus across the country, the price will be more than towing it across town. If your bus is oversize, needs load assistance, pilot cars, or any other amenities, this attributes to the cost. Because there are so many factors that go into the cost of shipping a bus, the best thing to do is give Heavy Haulers a call. Our expert transport agents will find the best prices to move your bus. How to Ship a Bus With Heavy Haulers
It's easy to ship a bus with Heavy Haulers. A transport agent will determine the best type of trailer for transport, based on the dimensions and weight of your bus. A shuttle bus or mini bus may easily be shipping on a standard flatbed trailer. Larger buses, from school buses to plush motor coaches, need a multi-axle trailer to transport them, typically a step-deck trailer or an RGN trailer rated for their weight. Shorter handicapped buses may be able to travel on a smaller flatbed but trust your expert logistician from Heavy Haulers to ensure that your bus travels on the right equipment. Our drivers are specially trained to maneuver through tight urban streets. Call now for a free bus shipping estimate! (800) 908-6206

A bus tour around Santorini will allow you to explore the island’s most beautiful and popular sights all in one day! Especially, for those visiting the island for a short period of time, it will be a perfect choice, as in a few hours you will set your eyes on scenic villages , stunning beaches like the Red and Black beach, and important historical sights. Not to mention the spectacular sunset in Oia that you will have the chance to witness at the end of some of the tours!
This is a brief guide on which bus tour you should choose based on your vacation plan , your interests , and your preferences. Some of the essential factors to consider are the duration of the tour and the level of privacy offered.
-Private Bus Tours: If privacy and comfort are all you seek, then a private bus tour is the ideal choice for you! Your personal vehicle will take you to all the top attractions of Santorini, and your own experienced guide will offer you useful information and insights into the history of the island.
-Duration: Whether you wish to spend an entire day exploring the island or just dedicate a few hours touring around, there are various tour options available. You can choose between full-day tours or 5-6 hour tours, private or you and your group, or shared with other people. You will get to visit the same spots in most of them, but the longer the tour, the more time you will have to spend at each location!
-Cruise ship visits: If your plan is to visit Santorini during a cruise, it would be advisable to arrange a private bus tour, which provides you with the flexibility to tailor your itinerary and starting time. As your time on the island will be limited and you will have to queue for the cable car, a bus tour is the most efficient way to make the most of it! Your personal guide will meet you at the top of the cable car and you will start your touring experience around the island. The tour will also end at the same spot.
-Wine Tours: For wine lovers and those who wish to meet Santorini’s rich history in wines, there are several bus tours available. All of them involve visiting some of the most well-known wineries on the island and experiencing wine tasting of various wine labels while sampling traditional local snacks.

Both know the island. The only difference is that a tour assistant cannot enter a museum or an archeological site. So if you would like a guide with deep knowledge of the history of the island and if you wish to explore a historical site, you should book a tour with a professional guide.
The easiest and most common way to reach Fira is by a cable car . It takes only three minutes. On the other hand, if you’re feeling adventurous and decide to walk to Fira, it’ll be 587 steps. Local donkey ride is another easy way to get there.
Important note: Please note that Gialos, the Old Port is nestled at the foot of a rocky cliff below Fira. If you decide to go by a cable car or on a donkey, you’ll have to pay 6€ per side of the ride.

How to Pick the Best Disney Cruise Line Port Adventures
What are you actually getting for your money.
Take a hard look at the description of your excursion. It is just transportation to a destination and back? Is there a meal included? Many Caribbean beach excursions are simply putting you on a bus and driving you to the sand. You’ll return to the ship with everyone else, regardless of when you’re ready to go. For parties of more than 2 people, you may be better off taking a taxi to your destination (don’t forget to budget for the round trip and gratuity). As an example, the St. Martin Beach Bash Tour consists of transportation to the beach and fruit punch, and will run a family of four nearly $150 for two hours on the beach. We suggest taking a taxi to Maho Beach to see something truly extraordinary and saving your real beach time for Castaway Cay.
Is the excursion something you can arrange on your own?
Many port adventures will take you to local tourist destinations. You may be able to book these directly and save some money.
Is there more information about the location online?
If you’re considering doing a tourist activity like visiting a local attraction, look up its web site online. You’ll usually get more information about what it really is than in a short paragraph from Disney. Moreover, you’ll probably find some good reviews online.
How much of my excursion is actually spent at the destination?
There are many port adventures where half or more of your time is spent getting to your destination and back to the ship. We think you should consider these carefully before booking them. For instance, the six hour Kohunlich ruins excursion includes a bus ride of two hours each way to arrive at the pyramid. You need to ask yourself if four hours on a bus is worth it for you. The total transportation time is included in the description of the excursion, or ask at the Port Adventures desk.
Is the excursion something I can only do in one port?
We definitely see the value in booking something like a sled dog experience in Alaska. Believe us, we’ve tried it with the poodle at home, and she’s having none of it. On the other hand, dolphin encounters are both ubiquitous and expensive in the Caribbean, and for our money, you’re better off spending time at Discovery Cove before or after your cruise. On the other hand, while you can find sting rays in many ports, too, we think the price and convenience of Castaway Ray’s Sting Ray Adventure on Castaway Cay is worth the money either alone or as part of bundle of excursions on the island.
Is there a language barrier I’d have to handle on my own?
English is the lingua franca of the Caribbean (and we hear in Alaska as well). Northern Europe is also friendly to English-speakers (though it’s always polite to ask first and learn at least hello, good bye, please, and thank you in the native tongue of any country you visit). Italy, Spain, and the rest of the Mediterranean can be another story if you’re on your own. In these cases, a port excursions with an English-speaking guide may be the most convenient way to see the sights.
Avoid city tours by bus in the Caribbean
We realize these are popular and usually not terribly expensive. They’re also not great way to visit any place. If you enjoy seeing the city as it passes you through a bus window and 5-minutes drop offs to take photos with six other tour buses, by all means book one. But don’t say we didn’t warn you.
The biggest advantage to booking through Disney
Without a doubt the best reason to book an excursion through Disney is that if it’s delayed for any reason, the boat won’t leave port without you. Believe us, we’ve heard folks being paged onboard as the ship is ready to sail away and it’s a little scary. Other conveniences are a pre-determined price and less need to carry local currency with you in port.
The advantages of booking on your own or skipping port excursions altogether
If saving money or being on your own schedule is important to you, we suggest you consider booking your excursions or even just popping off the ship for a few photos and walking around and then going back onboard. Your lunch will be free onboard, you can sleep in if you like, and there are far fewer people in the spa, pools, and in line for the AquaDuck/Dunk.
What’s important to you when choosing a port adventure? Talk about it in the comments.

Many tour operators have an exclusive agreement with DCL, and when you try to book through them directly if you tell them you are on a DCL ship they will not let you book with them. We tried to book our dolphin excursion independently and could not.
I ALWAYS book my scuba trips independently to avoid the cruise-ship crowds.
Also in my opinion the best stingray tour hands-down is the one on Grand Cayman. These rays are not kept in an enclosure, but are wild ones that follow the boats to the sandbar when they hear them coming. I have done both the ‘sandbar’ (4 foot) and Stingray City (15 foot) ones and as a diver the 15 foot one is much better because you don’t have so much sand being kicked up in the shallow water. Even snorkelers can float at the top and someone will bring the rays to you. And if you are lucky, Psycho, the resident green moray eel will make an appearance as well.
We’ve had good luck seeing random rays in the snorkel lagoon at Castaway Cay. It’s pretty cool.
Regarding Point Number Two: You have to be careful when booking Port Adventures outside of what Disney Cruise Line offers. Only with official Port Adventures will DCL hold the boat if you’re late getting back to the ship.
My first cruise we booked all our excursions through the boat. Our 2nd cruise we did half through the boat- the ones that weren’t available except through the boat- and half on our own. This last cruise was short, we just walked to the closest beach and chilled.
I’d definitely look through the ship’s tours and then google and use tripadvisor to see if you can find the ones that interest you for cheaper. Also bring a watch, and be conservative in your planning for the time it takes to return to the ship.
Is there any way you could put an image in this story? I would love to add it to my Disney Cruise planning Pintrest board, but can not as there are no images.
Unfortunately I’m traveling right now, so the logo’s the best I can do. I’ll remember our pinning readers in the future.
Another important reason to book on your own is to avoid crowds and ‘forced stops’. When the cruise ship tour bus pulls in, a huge group of people enters the attraction/site and suddenly everything is crowded and clogged. It’s worse when you’re a part of the mess! And bathroom stops on a cruise ship tour are a nightmare: imagine waiting for 30-60 bladders to empty! But the worst are the forced shopping stops. The cruise ship tours will always bring you to some overpriced tourist trap of shopping and you’ll be forced to spend time in the store area, whether or not you want to. if you’re lucky, it’s some cute outdoor street. If you’re unlucky, it’s some kind of ‘factory’ where you have to watch a ‘presentation’ and then be solicited for ages.
For these reasons (and for cost reasons) we always avoid cruise ship tours unless there are tight time considerations (for example, doing Pompeii and the Amalfi Drive when docked in Naples) or there really is no other way to get there cheaply (such as our European cruise last summer where the Italian private tours wanted a mint to do anything – double the cost for our family of 4).
Good point about the “shopping stops.”
Great post! We’re booked on our 3rd DCL cruise in September (aboard the Fantasy) and I’m spending a lot of time “himming and hawing” about Port Adventures. I’m torn between booking with DCL and booking something local.

Our testimonial, what our clients say.
Hear from our satisfied customers who rave about our exceptional service, professionalism, and memorable experiences on our charter buses.
Excellent service. Needed to secure last minute car service and found RDV Limousine on yelp. Made the phone call, secured the reservation and had my fingers crossed that the service would meet my expectation. Woohoo, I'm happy to say RDV Limousine did not let me down, and from here on out, they will be my car service of choice.
Great company. Responsive. Extremely professional drivers. I started using RDV last year and they are the only company I call for personal and business limo services. Top notch!!! Not the most inexpensive but the quality of service is AMAZING.
Excellent customer service. Eddie was great at helping plan a tour of DC for our first day and then with scheduling a bourbon tasting tour through Virginia. Hussein was our driver both days and he was prompt, friendly, courteous, professional, and helped us stay current with World Cup Soccer updates! The sedan was comfortable and clean. Hussein had umbrellas for both me and my husband. The price was very reasonable!
Fleet Week ship arrivals will cause travel delays, bridge lifts Wednesday afternoon
I t’s that time of year again when the Rose Festival welcomes visiting U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy ships as part of Fleet Week.
While the public gets a rare chance to tour these ships during their stay, commuters could see travel delays due to afternoon bridge lifts Wednesday, June 5. TriMet warns of MAX disruptions and TriMet bus detours and delays during the frequent lifts. One ship is scheduled to arrive 9 a.m. Thursday, June 6 but will only require a Steel Bridge lift. The whole thing will repeat with more bridge lifts Monday morning, June 10 when the ships depart. One ship will leave Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m.
The Rose Festival expects most of the ships will arrive in Portland between 2- 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. When the ships travel down the Willamette River, bridges in their path must lift to allow them to pass underneath.
The ships will dock on the west side of the Willamette River between the Steel and Morrison bridges. The Steel, Burnside, and Broadway bridges will need to lift for the bulk of the fleet to arrive, interrupting street traffic. Vehicles can use the Hawthorne or Morrison bridges as alternates. Bikes and pedestrians can also use Tilikum Crossing.
TriMet warns all MAX lines will see delays due to the closure of the Steel Bridge. Also, nine of TriMet’s bus lines will be detoured. Visit www.trimet.org/alerts for details on bus and MAX schedules and route changes.
The ships will be open for tours/viewing on a first-come-first-served basis. Times for tours vary by vessel, June 5-9. Check the Rose Festival Fleet Week page for tour times.
Fleet Week ship tours are free, but there are some requirements:
- Bring non-expired government issued ID
- Visitors will pass through an airport-style security screening checkpoint and may be subject to personal search
- Visitors must wear closed-toe shoes
- Large bags, strollers, and wheelchairs are not allowed on board, and there is no ‘holding area’ for personal items
- Visitors must be physically able to maneuver on board, including climbing or descending steep/narrow ladders

Electric Buses
Big bus tours adds 40 electric sightseeing buses to its fleet.
Global open-top tour bus operator Big Bus Tours has added 40 electric sightseeing buses to its fleet in time for the summer holiday season.
Big Bus Tours is introducing 20 brand-new Ankai electric buses in Paris and Vienna and retrofitting 20 buses in London by converting 20 of the existing diesel fleet to electric.
The new electric tour buses in Paris and Vienna are purpose-built electric sightseeing buses supplied by Ankai Anhui. The buses have 315 kW battery packs, sending power to the road through a ZF hub-motor axle. The buses can DC fast charge within four to six hours, depending on the grid load.
In London, the original buses are 2012 Ankai tri-axle diesel converted to fully electric by Equipmake. The conversion entails fitting a 327 kW battery pack that sends power to a single motor driving directly into the existing axles. The buses can be charged either AC or DC. The London buses are only used during the day, so they’ll be charged overnight on 22 kW chargers.
“We are thrilled to welcome these new electric buses as part of our investment in sustainability,” said Pat Waterman, executive chairman of Big Bus Tours. “This EV expansion is a major step forward in reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing the tour experience for our customers.”
The electric buses in all three European cities will hit the road this summer, bringing the company’s total electric fleet to 51 (just over 10% of its global fleet).
