Version 8 is a step back

Why mess with what works... I used 1Password 7 for a long time and loved it. Version 8 was released and broke so many things, it's a case study in frustrating your users by not leaving good enough alone. Since the version 8 upgrade the Safari extension is constantly asking me to enter my password (version 7 was happy with my touch ID). I get random errors I have never seen before, like "Unable to save" when trying to save a new login, clicking the "Use suggested password" item but it is unresponsive and nothing happens... They also removed a feature I LOVED and used daily: holding alt/option while looking at an item revealed the password - gone in version 8. I wish I could go back to version 7, and I am not the type of person who wants thing to stay the same, I love changes and improvements but from where I stand, I gained nothing from version 8 but lost reliability and functionality I used to love about 1PW. I am only not looking to switch because their successful vendor lock-in. I am too deep into the 1PW ecosystem (installed everywhere) and leaving it behind would cause even more pain than this miserable downgrade they call "version 8".

Terribly unreliable on Safari

The Chrome version of 1Password works fairly well, but I have daily issues with 1Password in Safari. This usually manifests itself as a disconnection from the desktop app, where you try to fill a user/password, 1Password asks you to unlock, and then the Safari extension hangs. Sometimes it will say that it needs to reload to reconnect. At this point it does seem like it reconnects to the 1Password desktop app, but the dropdown in user/password fields won't show without restarting Safari. But there are other annoying persistent bugs as well. Any kind of form autocomplete will battle it out with 1Password. So if the extension thinks that it should try to populate an address field that wants to autocomplete your address (i.e. you start typing your address and it uses Google to try to autocomplete for you), then the 1Password drop-downs will compete for this spot. That's annoying. The most annoying one, though, is competition with Safari's built-in SMS/email OTP autocomplete or just generic email fields. I want to retain the option in Safari to generate a unique email address for a site, so I need that function enabled, but 1Password steps on the Safari drop-downs every time. 1Password team, please, fix this extension. I love 1Password. When I spun up a company, I chose 1Password for our org of 30 people. You can do better.

I like the new version

I have been using 1Password since 2014 and just upgraded from version 6, so the new version, though somewhat different, has been a much smoother experience for me. I resisted upgrading, especially after reading some of the negativity here, but I liked that I didn't have to dump my old version 6 app and data to upgrade, so I felt confident I could go back if something went wrong or I was simply unhappy with the new version. To my surprise, the migration process from 6 was easy (though I did have to download version 7 first, but still not a big deal). I realized that Dropbox was having a hard time connecting to my devices regularly, so consequently, I often was missing new passwords if they hadn't been synced. That no longer is the case since everything just syncs flawlessly! Plus, I love that y'all are taking the time to respond to all of the comments. I'm sure the complications will get worked out, but if you aren't coming from version 7 directly, 8 is a no-brainer!

Edge error message "We found xx conflicting passwords. Resolve conflict to import other passwords"

I was exporting passwords from one profile to import into another using the csv option. In the past you could import entries that were for the same site/username, and it would warn you that it will overwrite the password with the one you are importing. This is the behavior I desire and works for my situation. Since I last tried this it seems the import no longer does this and gives a warning about conflicting passwords you need to fix to import additional passwords. I do not want to manually go through nearly 100 entries, it's the exact reason I am doing the import to begin with.

Anyone run into this and have a solution? Running the latest update of Edge on Win 10.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble importing passwords from one Edge profile to another. The error message you're seeing is due to the fact that there are conflicting passwords in the CSV file you're trying to import.

One possible solution is to try exporting a password from Edge and use that as a template for your CSV file. You can compare the format and structure of the exported password file with the one you are trying to import, and see if there are any differences or errors. You can also use a spreadsheet program like Excel to edit your CSV file and remove any duplicate or conflicting entries. You can copy the 2 sets of data inside a sheet and then the conditional formatting is set to highlight duplicate values so that you can quickly locate entries from the same site for comparison.

Another possible solution is to try resetting Microsoft Edge to its default settings. To do this, go to the three-dot menu, select "Settings", then "Reset settings". This will reset your browser settings to their default values, which may resolve the issue. However, this will also clear your browsing history, cookies, and other data, so make sure you back up anything important before you do this.

Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

Thank you for the response. My issue is not with overall import of the .csv passwords, that is working. It's not a format issues because I am exporting from one Edge profile and importing into a different profile. The issue is if the entry already exists in the second profile that is doing the import, it does not import the passwords giving an error/warning "We found xx conflicting passwords. Resolve conflict to import other passwords."

In the past if you imported a .csv as I explained and you already had saved passwords for the same site/username, it would overwrite the password with the imported one and warn you that would be the case. Which is the behavior I am wondering still exists, because it fits my use case of updating saved passwords in one profile and updating the second profile with the export/import approach I mention.

Unless there is another way to do this between profiles and saved passwords?

I see, and I apologize for any confusion. If the behavior you're looking for is to overwrite existing passwords with the imported ones, it seems that Microsoft Edge has changed its behavior in handling conflicts during password imports.

Provide feedback to Microsoft through official channels about the change in behavior and your preference for the ability to overwrite existing passwords during import. This might influence future updates to the browser.

Give users back control of our computers. I have multiple computers that have different users and passwords for same sites. If there are conflicted passwords, that is my issue not yours. Give us the option to import what we want.

Also get rid of passkeys they are are pain.

Agree, it’s why I posted the question out of frustration. Solution, none other than provide feedback to MS!

We would, of course prefer an MSFT representative to present the case to the developers. Another angle is for the import process to optionally export a list of conflicting passwords to the user on completion.

Totally agree!!! I wanted to import .csv just now and I am receiving " We found 6 conflicting passwords. Resolve conflict to import other passwords." but Edge is not saying which exactly.

I have 351 entries in that file and I will definitely not compare that file with what's already in Edge, but that's what MS is expecting from users.

... off I go looking for a new PW provider again. 🙄🙄🙄

Getting Started with 1Password at Brown

Q. is 1password mandatory.

A. 1Password is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended. If you are unable to remember strong, unique passwords for every online account, then we strongly encourage the use of a password manager and our recommendation is 1Password due to its excellent security and helpful features. In today's technical environments, it's likely you have more passwords than you can remember. If this is you, then you should be using a password manager that can create and track complex passwords.

Q. Is there a risk to putting all your passwords in one place?

A. While leveraging a password manager does "put all of your eggs in one basket", the reward outweighs the risk. 1Password never has a decrypted version of any data. The only place the passwords are accessible in a usable form is on your machine. In order to gain this access, we require a Master Password, two-step authentication, and your account Secret Key when logging in on a new device. Brown performs an annual security review of the vendor to make sure that their security meets Brown requirements. Here's what 1Password says about their security model .

Q. How do I set up my 1Password Enterprise account?

A. Faculty and staff will be automatically enrolled in 1Password Enterprise and will receive an invitation email to set up their account. 1Password Enterprise is not available for students, clinical faculty, medical residents, or alumni at this time. Follow the instructions in the email to set up your account. At the end of the setup process, you will be presented with a digital Emergency Recovery Kit.

It is important for you to save the Emergency Recovery Kit in a secure location. 1Password suggests that you store your Emergency Recovery Kit in physical and digital storage. Examples of physical storage include printing out the Emergency Recovery Kit and storing it with other important documents, such as your passport or birth certificate. Regarding digital storage, 1Password suggests storing your Emergency Recovery Kit in a password-protected folder and storing that folder on a flash drive. For more information on securely storing your Emergency Recovery Kit, please refer to Where to store your 1Password Emergency Kit .

Q. How does the 1Password Families benefit work, and with whom can I share it with? Can I keep it after I leave Brown?

A. Brown has partnered with 1Password to provide 1Password Families at no cost for faculty and staff. This is a personal 1Password account granted to you that also includes five (5) additional 1Password licenses. Once set up as a Family Manager, you can invite up to 5 additional family members or friends to join your plan through your family Dashboard so they can also use 1Password to keep their digital lives safe.

If you leave Brown, you have a few options with regard to keeping your family account. You can either transfer ownership of the family account to another member of the family or downgrade the account to an individual plan. If you choose to downgrade to an individual plan, any members you previously invited to the family account will lose access to the shared vaults and other family features. You would need to either create your own individual accounts or join another family account if invited.

Q. How does 1Password Enterprise compare to 1Password Families?

1Password Enterprise Account

Available to currently employed faculty and staff.

Brown controls minimum security requirements, i.e. required two-step authentication.

Brown provides support, i.e., Master Password recovery.

You lose access to your Enterprise account when your employment with Brown ends.

To be used for Brown-related passwords and secrets (see 1Password Families for accounts appropriate to use for personal passwords and secrets).

1Password Families Account

Available to currently employed Faculty and Staff. For more information, please refer to the article Activate 1Password Families .

Can be used to store personal passwords.

Brown cannot see nor recover these passwords.

1Password provides support.

Upon the end of your employment with Brown, you get to keep your passwords and can purchase yearly renewals if desired. Refer to 1Password's website for pricing.

Q. What data does Brown have access to in 1Password Enterprise?

A. Neither 1Password nor Brown can access any passwords found in your employee vault. Administrators only have access if they are added as members to a shared vault. 

Q. How do I keep my work (Enterprise) and my personal (Families) 1Password vaults separate?

A. Create two 1Password accounts with separate emails: one for work, the other for personal use. Your personal 1Password Families account provides a 1Password vault where you can store all your personal accounts, passwords, credit card information, and more.

One way to maintain separation between 1Password Families/personal and 1Password Enterprise/work accounts is to use different browsers for each account. You can also do this with different browser profiles (within the same browser) to manage different accounts with different email addresses. Here are instructions for the three top browsers:

Chrome: Add a person or profile in Chrome

Firefox: Multiple Profiles

Edge: Sign in and create multiple profiles in Microsoft Edge

Q. Can Brown clinical faculty use 1Password? How about medical residents?

A. Clinical faculty and medical residents do not have access to 1Password Enterprise at this time.

Q. What if I already have a personal 1Password account with my Brown email?

A. If you already have a 1Password account using your Brown email address, it's very important that you migrate all your personal items out of your personal account before setting up your 1Password Enterprise account. If you set up your 1Password Enterprise account without migrating your personal items out of the personal account, several scenarios could unfold:

Duplicate Accounts: You may end up with two separate 1Password accounts - your personal account and the organizational account linked to your Brown email address. This can lead to confusion as you'll need to manage two separate sets of passwords and data.

Loss of Data Access: Without migrating the content of your personal vault, you risk losing access to any passwords or sensitive information stored exclusively there. This could be problematic if you rely on that information regularly.

Lengthy Manual Transfer: You may still be able to manually transfer the data from your personal vault to your Brown 1Password Enterprise account after joining the organization. However, this process can be time-consuming and might require careful attention to ensure all important data is transferred accurately.

Q. What happens to my 1Password account when I leave Brown?

A. Faculty and staff will lose access to their Enterprise Account, but will still have access to their Families Account if they decide to pay for the service.

Q. I’m leaving Brown University and want to hand off some passwords. What should I do?

A. If you are leaving Brown University and have important passwords saved that pertain to your role, it’s very important that they are handed off before leaving Brown. The process of handing over passwords to a coworker is easy. 1Password suggests you create a shared vault with whoever you will hand over the necessary passwords to. Once you’ve created the shared vault you can move the item from your employee vault into the shared vault. To do this on the desktop app, you can click and drag the item from your employee vault to the desired shared vault. To move an item in the web browser, navigate to the item and under the item title click the Share button. Within the share menu click Move/Copy and select the vault you would like to move the items to. For more information on sharing items please refer to the Move or copy items article.

Q. What do I need to do to maintain my 1Password Families account after leaving Brown?

A. Faculty and staff can renew their 1Password Families account after leaving Brown. Please refer to 1Password's website for pricing .

1Password Basics

Q. i'm trying to activate my new account, but i think i lost the email. what should i be looking for what if i can't find it or it has lapsed.

A. Your invitation will have been sent by 1Password with the subject "Activate your 1Password account." 

If you cannot find your invitation, or you've tried and it has expired, contact the OIT Service Center by submitting a ticket or emailing us at [email protected] .

Q. How do I change/reset my Master Password?

A. You can reset your Master Password by navigating to your 1Password profile and following the steps below: 

Log into brownuniversity.1password.com .

Click on your name in the top right-hand corner, then click My Profile.

Select Change Password on the left-hand sidebar and follow the on-screen instructions.

A new Emergency Recovery Kit will be generated. Download the Emergency Recovery Kit, open it, fill out the relevant information, and save it to a secure location.

A congratulatory message will be displayed after you have successfully completed the changes.

Since you have changed your password, you will now need to log back into the 1Password desktop app with the newly created password.

A.  For the most seamless experience, it is highly recommended that you install and log in to the 1Password web browser extension and desktop application . A. If you are coming to 1Password from another password manager, you may already have spent a considerable amount of time storing your user names, passwords, and other data within that program or web browser. To assist with this transition, you have the ability to import your stored data seamlessly into 1Password through their desktop app. The article Transfer Items from LastPass to 1Password outlines how to export your passwords from LastPass into 1Password. Q. What happens if I forget my Master Password?

A. If you forget your Master Password for your 1Password Enterprise account, you can reach out to the OIT Service Center for assistance. If you forget your Master Password for your 1Password Families account, you can recover it using your Emergency Recovery Kit .

Q. In what ways does 1Password provide accessible functionality?

A. 1Password has enabled some common accessibility features available in both the web and desktop apps:

Keyboard Navigation: Users can navigate through the application and access its features using only the keyboard without relying on a mouse. This includes using keyboard shortcuts for various actions.

A. The Watchtower dashboard serves as your security headquarters, automatically summarizing known breaches or other vulnerabilities. You can also find Watchtower alerts on individual items if there's an issue that you need to address. Within the dashboard, you can:

Assess and improve your overall Security Score.

Monitor your email addresses for involvement in data breaches and get alerts when your sensitive information is compromised.

Q. How can I generate secure passwords?

A. 1Password can be used to both store and generate secure passwords. Generate a secure password by doing any of the following:

Using the in-field icon – Click the Generate Password icon in the Password field.

Using the web browser extension – Click the 1Password icon then click the Menu icon next to "+ New Item", then select Password Generator.

Q. What is a passkey, and how do I use it? 

A. While passkeys are not currently supported by Brown for Shibboleth authentication, some other websites do support them. Passkeys allow you to create and sign in to online accounts without a password. Unlike traditional passwords, passkeys utilize technology similar to when you visit a secure website. That means every passkey has two parts: a public key and a private key. Together, they keep your accounts secure by allowing websites and apps to check that you are who you say you are.

To use a passkey, find an existing login that now supports passkeys using Watchtower or create a new account on a passkey-supported website . Depending on the website, you may need to create an account with a username and password before creating a passkey. When you choose the option to create a passkey, 1Password will offer to save it. After creating a passkey, the next time you go to a website where you set up the passkey, you will see a prompt in the top right corner asking if you would like to sign in with a passkey. Q. How do I securely share a password?

A. You can share a password or other item (e.g., username or Secure Note) with another Brown 1Password user in one of two ways. The first method is through the item itself. This method will only allow you to share a single item, which can only be shared for a set amount of time. More information on this method can be found in the Securely share 1Password items with anyone article. The second method is through a shared vault, information on this method can be found in the Create and share vaults article.

Q. What are shared vaults, and how can I use them with my group to share passwords?

A. A shared vault is a special vault that you can use to securely and easily share site password entries and secure notes with other Brown 1Password users. Shared vaults use the same technology to encrypt and decrypt data that a regular 1Password account uses but are designed to accommodate multiple users for the same folder. See How to create and manage shared vaults for your team for full details.

Q. What are some best security practices for using 1Password to ensure I get the most out of it?

Q. what if i forget my master password.

A. The Office of Information Technology can reset your Master Password for your Enterprise account. Open a ticket with [email protected] to reset your enterprise master password. Brown cannot assist in the recovery of your Family account, but you can do so using your Emergency Kit .

Q. Why am I not able to see my team's shared folders?

A. You won't be able to access your team’s shared vault unless someone with sharing permissions to that vault adds you as a member. Please reference Share a vault for more information.

Q. Why does the password field not auto-populate when using desktop applications such as Microsoft Office or the VPN client (Big-IP/F5)?

A. 1Password can auto-populate log-in info on desktop apps through Universal Autofill for Mac. To enable Universal Autofill you will need to go into your Macs system settings and enable the feature. Please visit the article Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac for instructions on how to enable the feature. Unfortunately this feature isn’t available for Windows so to solve this issue, 1Password recommends using Quick Access. Quick Access is a feature found in the 1Password desktop application that allows you to find any item without leaving the app you’re working in. To open Quick Access on Windows/Linux, press Ctrl + Shift + Space and Mac  Shift-Command-Space. For more information on the feature, visit their Quick Access documentation .

Safari 13 is awesome, but 1Password 6 users need to upgrade to enjoy it

On Monday, Apple released the macOS Catalina public beta that includes a preview of Safari 13, which is set for release this fall. We’ve discovered there’s lots to love about Safari 13, but we’ve also learned that it will no longer work for customers using 1Password 6.

Those already using 1Password 7 are all set; 1Password 7 is ready for Safari 13, so you won’t miss a beat.

If you’re still using 1Password 6 in Safari, you don’t have to do anything immediately, but you’ll need to take action soon to prevent interruptions to your workflow when Safari 13 arrives.

1Password 7 supports Safari 13

The best way to experience Safari 13 is by using 1Password 7.

1Password 7 is included with every 1Password membership , and contains a ton of new features to help you organize and secure your life. A few highlights:

• Watchtower can now tell you when items you’ve saved in 1Password – like credit cards, driver licenses, and passports – are about to expire. Plus, it can tell you what sites support two-factor authentication, and whether or not you’ve enabled it.
• 1Password mini is smarter, faster, and more helpful than ever. It suggests passwords for the apps on your Mac, not just when you’re browsing the web.
• Everything has been entirely redesigned since 1Password 6, and that doesn’t just mean it looks fresh. The new sidebar makes it easier to switch between vaults and investigate security issues with your logins, and items now display the most important information front and center.

With a whole bunch of new ways to organize your life, 1Password 7 is the perfect companion to the speedy and secure Safari 13. 🙂

Soldiering on with 1Password 6

1Password 6 will continue to work with other browsers. Safari lovers like myself won’t want to hear this one, but if you’re stuck and really can’t upgrade, you can still use 1Password 6 in Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Vivaldi.

What’s changing

In previous versions of Safari, extensions were installed via the Safari Extensions Gallery. In Safari 13, the Safari Extensions Gallery is being replaced with Safari App Extensions.

It’s great Apple is doing this as Safari App Extensions are faster, lighter and more secure. They run through native Mac apps, meaning they put much less strain on memory and CPU performance. Plus, they’re less vulnerable to security exploits like man-in-the-middle attacks. And, as the extensions are bundled right in with the apps you download, you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues or downloading the wrong extension by mistake.

1Password 6 was retired over a year ago and, as an older app, it still relies on an extension from the Safari Extensions Gallery. Safari 13 offers a better browsing experience all around, but to embrace the new, we have to let go of the old.

In addition to its inclusion in macOS Catalina, we expect Safari 13 to also be released as an update for everyone using macOS High Sierra and Mojave, so we’d recommend making plans now as this is very likely to affect you.

It’s time for some late Spring cleaning! Let’s fix some things and make a few improvements. We’ve got quite the spread, with a host of resolutions for base game issues as well as addressing a wide assortment of packs. There’re also some performance gains, gallery updates, and DirectX 11 previews. We squeezed lots into this release, but there’s still more to come! Talk to you soon!

Bug Fixes & Updates

• Oh you thought you could hide, dishes? We will find you and we will wash you. Dishes left in corners will no longer be ignored when cleaning up. 
• Begone weeds! Plants won't grow weeds when Out of Season. If a plant has them when it becomes Out of Season, the weeds will be removed until it’s In Season again.
• Campfires will stop causing so many fires on the lot. Campfire spreadfire was triggering a 50% chance every 10 sim-minutes to burn objects other than chairs in the area. We removed that to only focus on when Fireworks trigger (which we all know is the real danger).
• “A Trash Can Is Required“ message will no longer display when trash cans are present on the active lot. Get that garbage outta here. 
• Skills will not randomly increase or change when leaving the lot or editing the household. If your Sim knows, they know.
• The skills list is arranged in alphabetical order and my eye will no longer twitch when looking at it.
• TS4 Packs are listed in the right order in the Build/Buy filter. Get back in line For Rent, Home Chef Hustle and Crystal Creations!
• Careers will no longer have a blank daily task menu.
• Summon Grilled Cheese interaction will no longer drop from the interaction queue.
• Sim will no longer get stuck in the ground and continue to Swim Laps if the pool is removed in the middle of it. Because physics. Now the Sim will reset. Because magic.
• Calendar notification light will remain on after traveling. No forgetting those important events.
• Customizable pronouns were adjusted to appear correctly on a few of the Romantic Relationship phone calls and will no longer display improper usage like “ask their out.”
• Sims can properly merge or move households with NPC Sims “not in world“; the merge/move button is now accessible. It’s all about bringing families together! 
• After switching to build mode from world map a red bar will no longer display in the upper right corner.

Performance

• We’ve made some optimizations so the game uses less memory. You may experience fewer crashes, better frame rate, and/or more responsive simulation.
• We’ve improved the lot load process so it should happen a bit faster.

Cats & Dogs / City Living

• Small dogs, puppies, and kittens will properly use the elevator to go downstairs from Penthouses. They can finally go potty! Poor little things.

Cottage Living

• Hatchable and spoiled eggs will now remain visible in the Chicken coop whenever the Sim travels to the lot.
• ‘Order For Table' interaction will properly clear from the interaction queue after the waiter delivers food to the table.
• Home Chef Hustles players can now add Waffles to the Restaurant Menu. More menu additions to come.  

DirectX 11 Preview

DirectX 11 is available on The Sims 4 on an opt-in basis and will be rolled out fully in a later update for Simmers running Windows. If you opt to run The Sims 4 using DirectX 11, you will potentially experience enhanced game performance and graphics quality. This update is designed to increase the overall gaming experience, with improved rendering capabilities that will allow for more details and immersive environments in future releases! We would appreciate your feedback and any issues you experience on our DirectX 11 Answers HQ thread .

Simmers running Windows and have DirectX 11 compatible hardware can now enter the argument -dx11 into the EA App or Steam to switch to using this renderer. You will be able to see which DirectX version The Sims 4 is using in your game version information displayed in the bottom right corner of the Main Menu.

• You can find all the information you need to check if your PC is DirectX 11 compatible and learn how to enter launch arguments for both EA App and Steam here .

While DirectX 11 is available for those Simmers who want to try it, you may experience visual issues with mods so we recommend disabling all mods while using this command line argument.

Eco Lifestyle

• Nose rings will no longer break when paired with brow piercings from this pack. 
• Property Ownership of “Tam Nang Sands“ lot will be recognized in the owned rental tab.
• “Unpleasant Surroundings“ Moodlet no longer triggered from the Pressure cooker and Kettle.
• Tourist location icons will now appear correctly when hovering over the Tomarang world select screen.

Gallery Server

• All profanity filter false positive reports sent to us via   The Sims 4 Gallery Profanity Filter Feedback survey up to May 1st have been reviewed and changes implemented. We appreciate all the reports and responses and will continue to update our systems based on your feedback.
• Non-anonymous Gallery users appearing in the Following and Followers tabs will once again display the number of Followers each user has.

Get to Work

• Aliens will stop having noticeable changes in facial structure (placement, size, etc) when aging up. No more morph faces.

Growing Together

• The “Had a Baby“ Milestone now triggers from having a Science Baby or giving birth at the hospital rabbithole.

High School Years

• Teens cannot send flirty messages on Social Bunny to adults or household family members.
• After a teen high school Sim completes all tasks and aces exams, they will also be promoted to a better grade. They’ve earned it!

Horse Ranch

• We all know how cute they are, but Sims will no longer autonomously want to buy mini goats (causing the UI to pop up).
• Nectar value is now properly increased when selling to the mysterious rancher.
• Horses will no longer get stuck while sleeping too close to the Horse training ball.

Island Living

• Mermaid Conservationists can now complete the “Snorkel in Mua Pel'am“ job task.
• During winter, the weeding animation will no longer repeat and the Sim will actually remove all the weeds surrounding the plants. Checkmate weeds!

Change where a login is suggested and filled.

When you save a username and password in 1Password, the website or app you’re on is saved along with it. 1Password uses this information to suggest the login in the future. You can adjust the behavior of these suggestions for any item, so they only appear where relevant.

When you change the autofill behavior for a website field, suggestions will be affected in 1Password in the browser, Autofill on iOS or Android devices, and Quick Access .

• Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
• Select a Login item and click Edit .

Fill anywhere on this website (default)

Only fill on this exact domain, never fill on this website.

• Save the item.
• Open and unlock 1Password for iOS.
• Open a Login item and tap Edit .
• Open and unlock 1Password for Windows.
• Open and unlock 1Password for Android.
• Open and unlock 1Password for Linux.

This is the default behavior because it’s secure and is compatible with most websites and use cases.

You’ll see the item as a suggestion on any page that’s part of the website, including subdomains. The item may also be suggested on related websites known to belong to the same organization. 1Password identifies matching websites according to their effective top-level domain (eTLD + 1), using the Public Suffix List and custom rules.

For example, if the website field is https://appleid.apple.com , you’ll see the item suggestion on all of the following domains:

You’ll see the item as a suggestion only if the domain (hostname and port) is an exact match.

This autofill behavior treats www as distinct from the hostname. If you want an item to be suggested on both www.apple.com and apple.com , you’ll need to add both URLs in separate website fields.

For example, if the website field is https://appleid.apple.com , you’ll see the item suggestion on only the first of these domains:

1Password will ignore this website field when determining whether the item can be filled. This is useful if you don’t want the item to be suggested under any circumstances.

Multiple website fields

You can configure autofill behaviors for each website field on an item, and they will combine to produce a compound effect.

If you only have one website field in an item, learn how to add more .

For example, if your Login item has the following website fields and behaviors, you’ll see the item suggestion on both subdomains, but not the main domain:

• https://appleid.apple.com (Only fill on this exact domain)
• https://developer.apple.com (Only fill on this exact domain)
