• When is the best time to visit Burj Khalifa ? I have two recommendations:
• Either at noon to catch the fountain show from above.
• Just before the end of the day, so you can enjoy heart-stopping views of the sun melting on the horizon.
• Plan at least 2 hours for the visit. Taking photos from all the incredible vantage points the observation decks offer and exploring the history of Burj Khalifa can easily suck up a lot of time. So, among my best Dubai travel tips is to plan at least a couple of hours for Burj Khalifa.

⛲ Travel Tips About the Dubai Fountain

• What time are the Dubai fountain shows? Performances take place daily. The light and music shows last up to 5 minutes each and are an unforgettable spectacle for the senses. In 2024:
• The afternoon performances happen at 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM (30 minutes later on Fridays).
• The evening performances start at 6:00 PM and occur every 30 minutes until 11:00 PM.

• Skiing and ice skating are both possible in Dubai’s malls. The Dubai Mall offers you the chance to go ice skating in its Olympic-size rink . While some might find it extremely bizarre, I believe it’s quite cool (pun intended) to be able to practice winter sports when the temperature outside is north of 100°F (37.7°C).

This means you shouldn’t eat, drink, or smoke in public in front of locals between sunrise and sunset. On a further note, hardly any bar or restaurant would sell you alcohol no matter whether you’re a tourist or a non-Muslim during that time. Without a license, you can buy alcohol from the airport. It is duty-free, but the amount of your purchase is limited to 4 liters of alcohol or 48 beer cans (each not exceeding 355 ml). Getting an alcoholic drink at a bar or restaurant doesn’t require a license, though.
• Stay away from PDA. Public display of affection (PDA) can get you in trouble in Dubai. There are hefty fines for PDA. The U.A.E. and Dubai are much more liberal than other Islamic countries, but it’s still better to be on the safe side. Holding hands is fine, but avoid kissing in public.

I'm an American who visited Dubai for the first time. Here are 11 things I wish I knew before I went.

• When I visited Dubai for the first time, there were some things I wish I had known beforehand.
• The weather during my stay was amazing, so I think the winter season is the best time to visit.
• The city is bigger than I expected so I'd recommend hiring a guide to see as much as possible.

I visited Dubai for the first time and loved my time there. However, there were a few things I wish I had known before I went on the trip .

Here are a few things I would've wanted to know before I went to Dubai.

Now I know the winter season is the best time to visit, mostly because of the pleasant weather.

Dubai has year-round sunshine , but I now know the best time to visit the city is during the winter, which, according to US News , spans from November to early March.

When I went in January 2022, the temperature ranged from 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit without any humidity. It was warm enough to enjoy touring and being out and about.

The temperature was also perfect when I stayed in the city and went to the desert. There was a slight breeze by the sea and marina, but nothing that required a jacket during the day. The sundresses and lightweight dresses I packed worked perfectly, but I advise bringing a jacket or long-sleeve shirt since it can get a bit chilly in the evening.

There are so many activities that you likely won't be able to do them all.

I didn't realize just how big Dubai was until I visited . There is an endless amount of activities, so I would suggest trying to identify your priorities before landing in the city.

Based on my experience, I recommend visiting the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world), going on the Ain Dubai, wandering the souks, and strolling along the Jumeirah Beach Residence Walk.

At night, it's worth snagging tickets to see the La Perle show and walking around the Dubai Mall to see the fountain show and lights around the Burj Khalifa.

Dubai is filled with record-breaking attractions but also tons of history and culture.

Though the world's tallest building and highest observation wheel were worth seeing , don't skip the historical part of the city. Visiting Al Seef, the souks, and taking an abra (a boat) across the river were definitely highlights of the trip.

Parts of the city are extremely innovative and new, but older areas showcase its history and culture. Seeing both allowed me to appreciate how the city has evolved over time.

Abu Dhabi is definitely worth a day trip and is only about an hour and a half away.

Though I originally planned on visiting only one of the seven emirates, the emirate of Dubai , my friends told me I had to incorporate a day trip to Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and is located in the eponymous emirate. We hired a tour guide to take us on the hour-and-a-half drive to Abu Dhabi and around the main sites.

Dubai isn't the only city with gorgeous sites and history — there are incredible places to visit nearby.

In Abu Dhabi, we visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Qasr Al Watan ( a working Presidential palace ), and Heritage Village.

I loved the emirate so much that I'd love to go back just to see more of it.

In addition to offering traditional Middle-Eastern food, Dubai seemed to have every other cuisine imaginable.

I'm allergic to sesame, so I was worried about what I'd eat on this trip since Middle-Eastern food and Emirati cuisine often use this ingredient.

However, Dubai had every cuisine I could imagine. Everything from Italian food to Chinese options was available, so my choices were not limited.

Though everything we tried was delicious, the food could be pricey.

Palm Jumeirah and Dubai International Financial Centre are closer to the main attractions than some other popular areas where visitors stay.

Since Dubai is such a large city, I think it's best to stay close to its attractions . I selected the Four Seasons Hotel Dubai International Financial Centre because it was only a two-minute drive (or a 20-minute walk) to the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall and close to restaurants and shops.

Since it was in the center of the city, grabbing taxis and finding transportation was easy.

Many visitors also opt to stay in Palm Jumeirah, which has waterfront hotels with larger properties and private beaches. It's still close to the city but has some privacy.

Hiring a tour guide ended up being the best decision I made on my trip — and it was quite affordable.

I hired tour guides to maximize my time in Dubai , which was one of the best decisions I made. 

We hired guides to take us around the city on our first day, as well as on our day trip to Abu Dhabi, the desert, and a nightlife tour. We made the most of our time in the city and we saw a ton.

We booked most of the guides through the hotel or by recommendations from friends and family who had visited. Each guide was relatively affordable and was accompanied by a driver.

You must bring appropriate attire for mosques and other holy sites.

The holy sites we visited had a dress code . Men should wear a shirt with sleeves that are at least elbow length with long trousers. In mosques, women need to wear an abaya and shayla, which covers their body and hair.

You can purchase an abaya and shayla at many tourist sites or borrow them ahead of entry. I didn't realize the mosques had a dress code, but I would have planned my outfit beforehand if I had.

Don't let your worries about sand and heat cause you to pass up a trip to the desert.

I typically stay away from deserts, but dune bashing — driving at varying speeds over sand dunes — in Dubai was one of my favorite activities on the trip . It was almost like riding a roller coaster on the sand and we got to see a beautiful sunset before heading back to the city. 

Don't miss dune bashing if you take a trip to the emirate.

Souks are some of the best places to buy souvenirs or spices.

You can grab souvenirs from just about any attraction in Dubai, but I think you'll get the best prices and selection at the souks, or marketplaces.

Dubai has a multitude of open-air souks, ranging from one for gold to a market for spices, and they each sell a wide variety of items. I purchased spices, jewelry, and souvenirs from different souks and strongly believe they're worth checking out.

Dubai, aka ‘materialistic hell’, crowned the world’s most overrated holiday destination

Dubai has topped the list of the most overrated travel destinations in the world and we can’t say we’re surprised.

Endorsed by influencers as the ultimate getaway, Instagram is peppered with shots of ex-reality stars lounging in bikinis at over-priced beach clubs and shopping malls.

And it seems Reddit isn’t overly pleased. When one anonymous user named Dubai as an overrated destination, 10,000 people were quick to agree .

One user wrote: ‘Dubai has always sounded like a holiday in materialistic hell.’

Another said: ‘Dubai. It sucks so bad, there is nothing to do, and no culture. Unless you like gaudy designer bullshit or laying by the pool.’

Others branded it the destination of ‘nightmares’ saying they’d return ‘broke and stressed’ while some who had been to Dubai said ‘there was no joy. Nobody was having fun.’

This doesn’t mean it’s still not a popular destination though, with 13.9 million tourist visiting Dubai from January to October 2023.

TikTok even branded Dubai the most popular city of 2023 with a massive 76.8 billion global views.

If the TikTok algorithm so much as sniffs travel in your search history it will conjure up images of Dubai – with its Palm Jumeirah ,  shopping centres and influencers beach clubs galore.

So why exactly did the city earn the title of the most overrated destination in the world?

The most disappointing attractions

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and is an attraction not to be missed if you head to Dubai, but it’ll set you back £44 minimum just to stand in excessive queues for the lifts up to the 163rd floor.

On TripAdvisor , Joe, from Bath, was underwhelmed when he visited, saying: ‘Don’t bother! Despite booking well in advance they sell way too many tickets each day so we were in queues for hours to get up and down. The view is ok, but given the choice I’d rather look at Google street view.’

Another TripAdvisor comment from Ivon, from Singapore, was equally disappointed, saying: ‘Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours in the queue just for the lift to go up and come down, unless you are getting the sky pass.

‘The viewing deck is really small, and there are always people sitting at each of the viewing window bay, taking their own sweet time to take pictures. Or perhaps they think they are having a picnic there. Honestly, nothing to shout about for the view. The view at the palm is way better.’

The Dubai Mall is another major attraction but with luxury stores like Cartier and Harry Winston, you aren’t going to get much shopping done unless you’re very wealthy.

Jordan, from Lancashire, said: ‘The sheer vastness of this mall is simply breathtaking but also comes with many negatives. It’s so vast it’s impossible to see everything, the crowds are overwhelming and you wait ages for the lifts to go to different floors as there’s always too many people waiting for them. I personally hate shopping at the best of times so this was not a pleasant experience for me.’

Others described it as ‘overrated’, ‘overpriced’ and ‘pretentious’ – so it’s not sounding great to us.

Another tourist attraction that is slated by visitors is the Burj Al Arab . The iconic building is one of the tallest hotels in the world and you’ll likely be familiar with it’s appearance on Jumeirah Beach.

But it doesn’t live up to the hype for some. Those who stayed in the hotel said they were frustrated about the constant tours going past them of the hotel while those who were doing the tours weren’t that impressed either.

Visitor Igor said: ‘I don‘t recommend a visit. Too expensive. The most impressive part of the visit lasts less than a minute. It is [a] hotel lobby. It looks really fantastic, but you are not allowed to take a picture.

‘So you pay 70-80 Euro (£68) for the whole visit and spend one minute crossing the lobby on the way to the elevator. You can stay and enjoy lounge bar, but be aware, it is not on the top, it has no panoramic view. It is the one on the ground floor.’

Praveen, who also visited, wasn’t impressed, saying: ‘Not so amazing as hyped. The inside tour is also average.’

The Lost Chambers Aquarium was also deemed to be a bit of a let down according to visitors, and with admission starting at £33 per person that’s not what you want to hear.

Yes there are sharks, eels, seahorses and piranhas (sounds impressive if you ask us) but that didn’t satisfy everyone.

Sally wrote on TripAdvisor: ‘Save your money. We’re visiting from the UK and the Sealife Centre in Birmingham is bigger! Dubai Lost Chambers sold as taking two plus hours. It’s one small area – 45 mins max. Only one large tank with one shark. Poor value for money

Another said: ‘Its very, very small and you need about half an hour to one hours maximum if you really go slow. Not worth the money. Nothing spectacular.’

Influencer culture

After the trend of de-influencing took off on social media in 2023, many of us have become more sceptical and maybe even annoyed by what we see flooding our Instagram and TikTok feeds.

One of the huge trends among influencers is holidaying in Dubai, with the Guardian dubbing the UAE city the influencer capital of the world.

In fact, the infamous Tarte influencer trip to Dubai in January last year meant our favourite social media personalities took some heat for their time in the UAE.

Tarte invited 33 influencers and their plus-ones to Dubai’s deserts to promote its Maracuja Juicy Glow Foundation. This included Alix Earle, Meredith Duxbury, Money McMichael and others – meaning about 28 million followers combined were being influenced to travel to Dubai, as well as buy a new product.

The influencers were slammed for being tone deaf and the sheer opulence of the trip was also frowned upon, adding to the idea that Dubai is materialistic and shallow.

Other overrated destinations

It wasn’t just Dubai that took the heat on the Reddit thread though – plenty of other adored destinations did too.

Niagara Falls, the eighth wonder of the world, also made the list with 3,000 people agreeing it was a bit of ‘a dump’.

Another highly popular destination was Disney World. The Redditor wrote: ‘Disney World. I had to wait in line just to type this.’

Nearly 5,500 people agreed with others saying ‘you turn into a human cash dispenser the moment you step foot in those parks’.

You might have some questions about visiting Dubai or how to plan a trip to Dubai—and luckily for you, we’re here to help. Whether you’re dreaming of a trip to Dubai for a winter getaway to warm up, hoping to visit for the World Expo , or just curious about whether or not Dubai is a good destination for your next vacay, we’ve got the answers you need. 

1. Where is Dubai located and how do I get there? 

Dubai is located in the United Arab Emirates, a country in the Middle East along the Persian Gulf. It borders Oman, Saudi Arabia and (by water) Qatar. 

Flying to Dubai is actually quite easy, because there are a number of US cities where you can fly direct to Dubai. Though the flight time from the US is about 12-15 hours, you’ll find nonstop flights daily from major cities like New York, San Francisco, Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles. There’s a lot of airline options too, although the most popular include Emirates , Delta , Turkish Airlines , Qatar Airways and more. 

2. Can Americans visit Dubai right now? What are the Covid-19 travel restrictions for Dubai? 

Yes, US citizens can visit Dubai right now! Dubai has contained their Covid-19 spread relatively well and have (at the time of writing) vaccinated about 40% of their population. 

Currently, all travelers visiting Dubai need to have proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure. Rapid tests or antibody tests are not accepted. You’ll also need to bring printed test results, not a digital copy. Travelers also need to download Dubai’s Covid-19 contact tracing app for the duration of their trip. Dubai is not requiring travelers to be vaccinated. Dubai’s hotels have recently been allowed to return to 100% occupancy and many public events, concerts, sporting events and more are operating at almost-full capacity for vaccinated locals and travelers. Most things are open, however, masks and distancing are still required in public spaces. 

3. Is Dubai safe? 

Dubai is an extremely safe city—probably even safer than your city back home. It’s even been ranked one of the safest cities in the world. Dubai has strict laws that mean crime—especially violent crime—is very rare. Some petty crimes (like pickpocketing) may still occur, so keep an eye on your belongings and surroundings, as with anywhere. But visiting Dubai is still extremely safe for Americans and solo travelers. 

Ironically, the laws are the things that can most easily get you into trouble in Dubai, as many Americans aren’t accustomed to such strict laws. Know in advance what the rules are (keep reading for some basic dos and don’ts) and be sure to be mindful of them while traveling.

4. Can you drink alcohol in Dubai? 

Yes! A common misconception about Dubai is that alcohol is off-limits, but travelers can drink alcohol while visiting Dubai while in licensed areas (like hotels, bars and restaurants with liquor licenses). Drinking in public places or buying alcohol to drink at home without a liquor license is prohibited. Drinking during Ramadan is also a no-go. It’s also a punishable offence to be under the influence in public, so if you do have a fun night out at a bar or club, make sure you keep it together while taking a taxi home. 

5. What language is spoken in Dubai? 

The official language of Dubai is Arabic. However, about 85% of Dubai’s population are expats, which means you’ll hear a variety of languages from all over being spoken. As a result, English is the most commonly spoken language in Dubai, so you’ll have no problem getting around and interacting with most locals. 

6. Is Dubai expensive? What’s the currency in Dubai? 

It’s an ultramodern city known for luxury and indulgence, which means there’s a lot to spend money on if you’re looking for a glamorous vacation. However, there’s also a lot of ways to visit Dubai on a budget, including: 

• Taking the metro or other public transportation instead of renting a car or relying on taxis to get around. 
• Avoid alcohol. Alcoholic drinks are pretty expensive in Dubai, so cutting these out can save you a TON on food expenses. 
• Stay in a budget hotel or an Airbnb. Dubai is famous for its super luxurious hotels like the Burj Al Arab, but there’s plenty of budget hotel options as well. Airbnb is also an option and can be a great way to save. 
• Eat at small, local restaurants (with local foods) instead of fancy restaurants or ordering exotic or American foods. As is the case just about anywhere, small restaurants and cafes with local food options will be the cheapest.
• Explore some of Dubai’s free things to do and discover the history and culture of various neighborhoods and districts of Dubai rather than paying for all the tourist attractions. The Dubai Mall is free to visit and you can easily spend a day there window shopping. The local souqs are a great shopping experience too, and there you can negotiate prices to strike a bargain. Enjoy the beaches or take a free walking tour of the city. Ride a traditional Abra across the Dubai Creek for just $0.30 USD, or explore the historic Old Quarter and Dubai’s historic Al Bastakiya district. 

The currency in Dubai is the Emirati dirham (AED). The current exchange rate is about $1 USD = 3.70 AED. 

7. When is the best time of year to visit Dubai? 

Dubai is known for being a hot desert destination, so it’s no surprise that when you visit it’ll basically be either hot or even hotter. Visiting Dubai in the winter is your best bet. Winter in Dubai starts from around November until April and temperatures tend to be a lot cooler during these months, making it easier to explore all that Dubai has to offer. If you do visit between April and October brace yourselves for some pretty warm weather. Highs can be above 100°F for months, so outdoor exploring can be a hot and sweaty endeavor!

8. Do you need a visa for visiting Dubai? 

US passport-holders do not need a visa to visit Dubai if you are staying for 30 days or less. All travelers from the US need to have a round-trip ticket and a passport with at least six months of validity to enter Dubai. A short-term (30 days or less) tourist fee is available for free upon arrival. If you are planning to stay a month or longer, you’ll need to secure a visa in advance. 

9. What are some tips for first-time travelers to Dubai? What are some dos and don’ts for Dubai? 

Dubai is a predominantly Muslim country, and some of the customs and culture differs quite a bit from what you might be used to. Here’s some do’s and don’ts you should keep in mind during your trip: 

Do dress modestly if you’re visiting a mosque or other holy or religious places. That means shoulders and knees covered—doing so is respectful of both local culture and religions. 

Do be respectful of the local culture and customs. Locals in Dubai tend to be very welcoming, hospitable and peaceful, and showing that you appreciate and respect their culture will go a long way. In addition (this should go for any destination, but especially important in Dubai), don’t make any rude hand gestures, don’t point at people, don’t use swear words or get into an aggressive argument or shouting match in public. All of these things are considered very offensive and can land you a fine or even jail time. 

Do be prepared if you need to bring prescription medications with you. Drugs are strictly forbidden in Dubai, even some prescription medications, and using or carrying them with you can face severe penalties or even imprisonment. Check the list of banned substances from the embassy before traveling. For those who do need prescription medications during their trip to Dubai, carry a doctor’s note with you detailing your medical condition, the dosage and usage of your prescription and the dates of your trip.

Do ask before you take photos. Taking photos of people without their permission is severely frowned upon. You can actually get in a bit of trouble for this! (Of course, asking someone’s permission before you take pictures of them should be common practice.) In addition, taking pictures of government sites/restricted areas and military sites is not allowed. 

Don’t:

Don’t show any PDA. Dubai is pretty conservative when it comes to PDA, so keep your hands to yourself while you’re out and about. Holding hands is okay for (heterosexual) married couples, but anything more than that is off-limits. 

Don’t drink and drive. We shouldn’t have to say this at all, but Dubai has a zero tolerance stance toward driving under the influence. If you’re caught driving in Dubai with any trace of alcohol in your system, you will be imprisoned and/or deported. 

Don’t be afraid to wear a bikini at the pool. While you should dress conservatively in places like malls or mosques, at the beach, swimsuits, shorts and so on are totally fine (but keep in mind that beachwear is generally only for the beach). If you’re going out to eat or enjoying a night on the town, dress to impress. As a guest in someone else’s country, it never hurts to err on the side of caution and dress a bit more conservatively, but you will find that most Western attire is generally accepted.

10. What is there to do in Dubai? 

Dubai has plenty to do, no matter what kind of traveler you are! Shopaholics will love exploring the massive Dubai Mall and numerous souks around the city to shop for everything from luxury goods to traditional crafts and spices. Adventure-lovers will find plenty of adventure in Dubai , both inside and outside of the city. Go ziplining over Dubai marina, go dune driving or experience an overnight safari in Dubai’s nearby desert or try scuba diving. Go sightseeing to explore some of Dubai’s most stunning architecture, from the Burj Al Arab to the Burj Khalifa and more.

If you’re interested in learning more about Dubai’s history, culture and religion while visiting Dubai, visit a mosque, explore the historic Bastakiya quarter, or visit the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. Getting hot with Dubai’s desert climate? Visit a local beach, an adventure waterpark, or cool off with indoor skiing at the Dubai Mall.  

11. Do you need a car in Dubai? 

Not really. If you’re staying in the city and want to mostly explore Dubai itself, you can easily get around on public transportation and a few taxi rides here and there. The Dubai metro system is clean, cheap and efficient, and a great way to get around. It has about 50 stations (including the airport) and can take you to a majority of the major attractions and areas of Dubai. You can also book day trip tours to do things like desert safaris, hot air ballooning or dune driving in the desert. 

However, if you want the freedom to explore more things outside of the city, or want to take a lot of day trips to nearby areas, a car may be a better option for you. If you’re at least 21, you can rent a car in Dubai . The city is very modern and the roads are generally quite safe—but you’ll need to be a confident driver, as some of the road rules and customs may vary from those in the US. Do keep in mind that rules like speed limits and not using your phone while driving are also more strictly enforced in Dubai than they might be back at home. You’ll need to follow these rules carefully while visiting Dubai! 

12. Is it worth it to travel to Dubai? 

In our opinion: absolutely, yes! Dubai is underrated among US travelers. However, worldwide, it’s one of the most popular destinations to travel to (which means that American students are missing out!). Visiting Dubai combines Western comforts with exotic Eastern charm that create a unique blend of culture, history, luxury and tradition and will give you an experience you can’t have anywhere else. It’s a city that’s hugely diverse (in terms of nature, people and culture) and home to delicious food, ancient culture, ultramodern skyscrapers and technology and endless things to see and do. 

13. What kind of food should you try in Dubai? 

Dubai is a hugely international city with lots of food options, but you’ll definitely want to try some local Emirati options while you’re visiting Dubai! Start the day with some luqaimat , similar to donuts and found at most cafes and bakeries. Later, you can fill up on samboosa , pastry pockets stuffed with cheese, veggies or meat; khubz , a local bread usually served with hummus; or ghuzi (sometimes called khuzi), essentially lamb on kebab skewers with vegetables and nuts served with rice.

With its location in the Arabian desert, it's no surprise that Dubai has only two settings on its thermostat: warm and hot. In the months when much of the Northern Hemisphere is shivering, Dubai makes a great getaway for winter sun, but in the sweltering summer months, anyone who is brave enough to stay in the city is hustling between air-conditioned patches of cool.

Here's a month-by-month guide for the best time to visit Dubai .

High season: November to April

Best time for outdoor urban adventures

When much of the Northern Hemisphere is bundled up in hats and winter coats, Dubai is blossoming. Moderate temperatures bring in major festivals and events, and al fresco dining lasts late into the night. Accommodation rates are high. Outdoor activities and excursions into the desert are best done at this time of year.

Shoulder season: May, September and October

Best time for quiet beach holidays

The days are hot, and the nights are balmy. Because the winter crowds have disappeared, these months are good for quiet beach holidays, with sea temperatures averaging 82°F (28°C). Pleasant temperatures also mean it's still possible to camp in the desert.

Low season: June to August

Best time for budget travelers and indoor shopping

During the hot and humid summer months, travelers on a budget can more easily book into Dubai five-star's accommodations thanks to steep discounts. Life moves indoors, and summer sales lure shoppers into the air-conditioned malls.

January is a blissful month in Dubai. When much of the rest of the world is suffering post-festive season doldrums and icy conditions, the daytime temperatures in Dubai average a pleasant 77°F (25°C). January is still Dubai's coldest month, so bring a light jacket for evenings out. February in Dubai is another warm and winning month, with sun-kissed weather and plenty going on, including many outdoor events. Pack a pashmina for al fresco evenings. Key events:  Dubai Jazz Festival, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Dubai Food Festival

Dubai's weather in March might be heating up a fraction, but it is still near perfect in this action-packed month, with warm seas for swimming and enough of space on the sand. The spring weather in Dubai is still warm rather than blistering, but school breaks mean you’ll see more tourists around the Easter holiday. April is a rollicking good month for beach fans and fashionistas. Key events: Fashion Forward, Al Marmoom Heritage Festival, start of Ramadan in 2021 and 2022

In May, temperatures in Dubai can nudge 95°C (35°C) or more, and most visitors have cleared out in anticipation of the summer heat wave. Beach clubs and indoor shopping centers provide welcome relief during the day.  Key events: Al Gaffal Dhow Race

Summer has arrived, and it's already blisteringly hot outside. Life shifts indoors to air-conditioned malls and museums, and swimming in the sea or a hotel pool feels like sitting in a bathtub. Key events: Dubai Summer Surprises

July is the hottest month of the year in Dubai, and it's a scorcher, with average temperatures of 105°F (40°C). Flight prices and hotel rates drop significantly. You can really cool down at the city's snowy indoor slope, Ski Dubai . Key events:  Eid Al Adha in 2021 and 2022

Dubai is still roasting hot in August. Tourist attractions are generally empty, especially toward the end of the month when schools start up again.

Dubai's searing summer temperatures are slowly starting to drop, and it's a good time to be by the sea. Excursions into the desert are possible again, and the balmy evenings lend themselves to stargazing among the sands.

The Dark Truth Behind Instagram Models Constantly Jetting off to Dubai

There's no denying that our world revolves around social media, so much so that millions worldwide are "doing social media" as a full-time career. Over the years, more and more young people have started becoming social media influencers , as they believe there's a chance for them to become a star, achieve fame, and make a lot of money.

Plus, many of them get to travel throughout the year. As a matter of fact, Dubai has quickly become the world's influencer capital, with many Instagram models flying there to look for the best photo shoot opportunities.

However, we don't think the filtered images tell the whole story behind the journey, so we're curious: Why are Instagram influencers always heading to Dubai? Keep reading to find out the rather dark truth.

Why are female Instagram influencers always flown out to Dubai?

Before we dive into the shady reasons, let's start with the most basic explanation: tourism. Dubai is one of the leading tourist destinations. With its modern architecture and entertaining excursions, it's no wonder tourism is a significant source of income for the city.

Also, Dubai is great for those who desire a lavish lifestyle. Since Instagram influencers are always looking to expand their portfolio and enjoy the luxuries life has to offer, they head to Dubai and share their experience for all to envy.

While we wish this was the whole truth, it's not. One reason influencers are jetting off to Dubai is a lot darker than that.

To most of the world, Instagram is a social media platform that allows people to share their lives online, but, for influencers and models, it's become a place for young, attractive women to gain the attention of wealthy older men.

Some influencers head to Dubai to have a good time with wealthy men.

In 2018, Cosmopolitan UK reported on the Dubai-influencer partnership. The outlet spoke with a translator named Mariana, who is very aware of the influencer population in the city.

"It's very lavish with guys spending money on things you can’t even imagine," Mariana said of Dubai. "They remind me of Mexican narcos — buying exotic animals and gold-bathed guns, and paying women thousands to party with them. Even my brother pays hot girls from Instagram to go to his restaurants and post pictures."

The publication also wrote that Instagram models, in exchange for their beauty and youthfulness, receive the lifestyle many could only dream of attaining. A man named Anthony London refers to this arrangement as "luxury concierge."

In regard to the wealthy clients he has at Millionaires Concierge, Anthony said, "I’ll book them a table in wherever is cool and arrange for 10 girls to come along. All they’ve got to do is look pretty and have a good time ... If you’ve got your head screwed on, you can make a lot of money from social media and partying."

OK, gross much? Well, it gets worse. An anonymous source reported several accounts of degrading sexual ventures in exchange for money and luxury experiences.

The source informed Cosmopolitan UK that in Dubai, "It’s especially common for women to be flown out by wealthy sheiks who, in return, will ask them to participate in niche sexual practices."
