To escape from the frenetic city life, people from all walks of life to seek solace and blessing of God visit the Nizamuddin Dargah. Situated in the Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin is the dargah (mausoleum) of one of the world's most famous Sufi saints, Nizamuddin Auliya (1238 - 1325 CE). Inside the dargah complex, one can find the tombs of poet Amir Khusro, Mughal princess Jehan Ara Begum, and Inayat Khan.

Dargah is sacred to the world famous Sufi saint of the Chisti Order, Nizamuddin Auliya, who was born in 1238 in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh. He traveled to Delhi to preach the Order of Chisti and then finally settled in Ghiyaspur. Nizamuddin Auliya taught people that love and peace can help them get closer to the God; also one should keep on serving people irrespective of their cast, creed, and religion. During his life, he had many followers like Hazrat Nasiruddin Mahmud Chiragh Dehlavi and Amir Khusro. On 3rd April 1325, he passed away, and his Dargah was constructed by Muhammad Bin Tughlaq of the Tughlaq Dynasty, who was also his avid follower.

Interiors of the Dargah

A street bustling with shops selling chadars, polychrome clocks and prints of Mecca and flowers leads to the Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin. In the inlaid marble pavilion, one can see devotees singing qawwali in the honor of celebrated Persian poet and devotee of Nizamuddin Auliya - Amir Khusrau (1253-1325). Women are not allowed to go beyond the outer verandah, but they can peek through jali ( lattice screen) to see the dark chamber where the grave of the great saint lies draped with chadar and rose petals. Locals say that tying a thread on the latticed screen serves as a constant reminder to the saint of their wishes. Apart from the main shrine, here, one can see the tomb of Nizamuddin Auliya's saints - Jahanara Begum, Shah Jahan’s favorite daughter, and Amir Khusru.

Across the western side of the open courtyard, one can see the Jama’t Khana Mosque, which was built, was back in 1325 AD. Towards the north side of Dargah, there is a stepwell. Locals say that the stepwell was built in secret as the Tughluqabad was in making process, and all the building activities were banned. Successors of Nizamuddin Auliya made it with the help of water lit lamps. On the north-eastern side, there is a 16th-century tomb of Atgah Khan, who was a powerful minister in Emperor Akbar’s court. In the open marble pillar, Chaunsath Khamba (“64 pillars”), one can find the grave of Mirza Ghalib, preeminent Urdu, and Persian-language poet during the last years of the Mughal Empire. How to Reach

By Roadways: There are regular buses from other major cities of the country to New Delhi. From all the major bus terminals and railway stations of Delhi, an auto or bus for the dargah would be easily available. If commuting by Delhi Metro, the nearest metro station would be Indraprastha (Blue line) and Jangpura (Violet line).

By Railways: From all the states of India, trains are easily available for New Delhi. Once tourists reach any of the railways station in Delhi, they can take a taxi, cab or auto. And can even hop on the Delhi Metro.

By Airways: Indira Gandhi Airport is the nearest airport to reach Dargah. From the airport, one can take a cab or hop on the bus. Delhi's airport too has a good metro connectivity.

Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah Delhi: History, Timings, How to Visit

In the abode of India’s capital, in the embrace of the hustling city, lies the beautiful Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah where one can reconnect with the lost peace of their inner self. Delhi is one of the most happening yet historic cities in the country. While you have places to party all night; you also have attractions and forts that enchant the tourists. In that regard, the Hazrat Nizamuddin is a classic example of the latter.

Walls coloured in the hues of brick red with white domes sitting at the peak, this place welcomes a thousand visitors every week. Irrespective of what religion you follow, the Hazrat Nizamuddin is a must-visit place where you are in Delhi.

History of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah

Hazrat Nizamuddin is a mausoleum that is dedicated to the Sufi saint Khawaja Nizamuddin Auliya who lived in the early eras of 1238-1325 CE. He was a saint of the Chishti order and a firm believer of God who believed in spreading humanity and love all across the region. It is also known as the Nizamuddin Auliya Mazar in Delhi and is one of the most divine places in the city. The mausoleum is in Nizamuddin which lies in the South Delhi region. It was constructed in 1325 by Muhammad Bin Tughlaq of the Tughlaq dynasty who was an avid follower of Khawaja Sahib. Later, Firuz Shah Tughlaq renovated the structure and suspended four golden cups from the recess of the dome. The present dome that one can see is about six metres in diameter and was constructed in 1562 by Faridun Khan; the structure has undergone a lot many additions over the years that just kept enhancing the beauty of this Dargah in Delhi.

Being a renowned Dargah, many emperors and rulers have gifted various items present in the mausoleum as a tribute to Khawaja Nizamuddin Sahib. For example, the marble balustrade that surrounds the grave was gifted by Khurshid Jah of Hyderabad. The complex is surrounded by a patio that is built with marbles and is covered with intricate trellis walls that are known as jaalis. Adding to this, the complex of the Nizamuddin Dargah, Delhi also houses a washbasin, which is known as a wazookhana. According to the tradition of the Dargah, female devotees are not allowed to go beyond the veranda of the complex. However, they can peak through the jaalis to see the grave of Khawaja Nizamuddin Auliya that sits inside a dark chamber, wrapped in chaddar, and decorated with flowers.

The Dargah is very well-maintained by the descendants of Khawaja Nizamuddin Auliya who look after the management and maintenance of the Dargah Sharif. It is said that if you make a wish from the heart at the Dargah of Nizamuddin Auliya, Delhi, it will be granted regardless of the creed you follow. This belief makes the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah not only one of the most famous tourist attractions in the city but also a crowded one. The Dargah Sharif is quite popular for the devotional Qawwali music sessions; attending this will ascend you to the world of spirituality, bridging the gap between humans and the almighty, giving you mental and emotional peace that you have always been waiting for. In fact, in the Bollywood movie ‘Rockstar’, the Dargah was featured and the soulful song ‘Kun Faya Kun’ was shot here. A whole lot of people, from businessman to government officials, to celebrities, sportsperson, and so on – everyone bows down their head at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Mazar in Delhi.

Besides the mausoleum of Khawaja Nizamuddin Auliya, you will find the tombs of Mughal Princess Inayat Khan, Jehan Ara Begum (Shah Jahan’s daughter), and the well-known poet, Amir Khusro. Ziauddin Barani and Muhammad Shah are also buried here and the complex houses more than 70 graves. Though the Dargah complex was renovated by the Aga Khan Trust somewhere around 2010; the Sufi aura, the ancientness of the mausoleum remains intact.

Opening Timings of the Nizamuddin Dargah

You can visit Nizamuddin Sahib ki Dargah from 5:00 AM till 10:30 PM in the night. However, if you want to witness the magical Qawwali session, then you can visit the mausoleum between 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM on Thursdays. You don’t have to pay any entry fee to visit the Dargah.

How to Visit the Dargah

Reaching the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is pretty easy. Here are some of the ways that you can opt;

There are frequent buses running from the bus depot to the West Delhi area. In case you want to travel in the DTC buses, look out for numbers 970B, 410CL, 408CL, 181A, 166, 894CL, 429CL, 429, 411, and 410 that run on the same route as that of the Dargah.

One of the most convenient ways of travelling in Delhi- it is easier and faster to reach the Dargah if you take the metro. The nearest metro stations to the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah are Pragati Maidan Metro Station and Indraprastha Metro Station on the blue line. From the metro stations, you can take an auto to reach the Dargah complex.

Yet another way to visit the Dargah is booking a cab via mobile apps. The rate can be a little higher depending on the distance and the traffic but it will be a more comfortable way of reaching the Dargah.

Things to Know/Instructions to Keep in Mind

The Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is a holy place and here are some important things that you need to know while visiting the Dargah Sharif: –

• The Dargah complex is open for all devotees irrespective of their religion on all days of the week.
• There is no entry fee to visit the Dargah.
• Reach the place at the given timings of the Nizamuddin Dargah to avoid any inconvenience.
• Thursdays are special because of the Qawwali that is being sung in the open courtyard within the Dargah, which devotees can witness.
• When you enter the Dargah, your head must be covered. For men, you can carry a piece of cloth while women can carry a stole or dupatta to cover their head while offering prayers.
• Do not carry food inside the Dargah.
• There are a lot of eateries situated in the lanes that lead to the mausoleum; you can relish on some good street food after paying your tributes to Khawaja Sahib.
• The Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is not included in the service route of the Ho-Ho bus. So, if you have to take a cab or the metro to reach the Nizamuddin Dargahfrom your location.

Nizamuddin dargah, delhi overview.

Dedicated to the world famous Muslim Sufi Saint Nizamuddin Chisti, the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is a mausoleum and shrine located in Delhi. The complex of the dargah is a beautiful amalgam of red stone and white marble and was built in the year 1526. Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah seeks to propagate the Sufi tradition which is based on spirituality and views all religions as equal. As an implication of the same, people of all religions are allowed to pay their respects to the grave of the great saint, and they do visit the shrine in the counts of thousands every week. The tombs of many other people Mughals such as Jahan Ara Begum and Inayat Khan are also present in the premises of the dargah. The tomb of lyricist Amir Khusro (disciple of Hazrat Nizammudin) is also situated within the Nizamuddin Dargah complex.

A vibe of spirituality and serenity seems to be omnipresent at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, where you can find throngs of devotees even in the later hours of the evening. The spirit of service is commonplace here, and a langar or free community kitchen is held every Thursday and Sunday for the devotees where only vegetarian food is served. Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah also plays host to qawwali and a Sufi singing session on Thursdays and Saturdays and a number of Sufi singers come here to pay their homage. One can easily spend hours of their time listening to the melodious renditions of the qawalls, or simply contemplate the divine under the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah sky.

That’s the belief for the Mausoleum of one of popular Sufi Saints Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Situated in the Nizamuddin West area of Delhi, this place has devotees and pilgrims of all religions visiting it all the year round.

Nizamudding Auliya, a Sufi saint of the Chishti order, is one of the most popular Sufi saints ever. He lived from 1238-1325 CE. He always stressed on love being the only way of realising God. His vision and mission of spreading humanity is being carried forward by his descendants and his Dargah stands a proof to it. People of all religion bow their heads in Nizamuddin Dargah, making it one of the most crowded places of the city.

Besides the dargah of Saint Nizamuddin Auliya, one can find the tombs of poet Amir Khusro, Mughal princess Inayat Khan and Jehan Ara Begum as well.

If you have watched the Bollywood film Rockstar, you must have seen actor Ranbir Kapoor singing in a Dargah. That was Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah, which was beautifully featured giving its true sense. Besides, a whole of Bollywood celebs and sports personalities keep visiting the dargah to offer prayers. In fact, Oscar winning music composer A R Rehman is a regular visitor to the place.

The place has its own aura. Every evening, Nizamuddin Dargah witnesses playing of Qawwali devotional music sessions. These music sessions are seen as a bridge between the human soul and the almighty. While the dargah is open everyday to offer prayers, the best time to visit the place is during Urs, which is celebrated twice a year, to commemorate the death anniversaries of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusro. The place is decorated and is adorned by beautiful lights during this time of the year. The sight of illuminated dargah, alongwith qawwals singing while playing Harmonium and Tabla is something that you will not forget for a lifetime.

Nizamuddin Dargah History:

Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya was born in in 1238 in a small place called Badayun in Uttar Pradesh. He had travelled to Delhi to propagate and preach the order of Chisti. He settled in Ghiyaspur and taught people the lesson of love, peace and humanity.

Nizamuddin Auliya always propagated that people of all faiths should be bound together irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. During his lifetime, a lot of people including the likes of Hazrat Nasiruddin Mahmud Chiragh Dehlavi and Amir Khusro became his followers.

Nizamuddin Auliya left for heavenly abode on 3rd April, 1325, after which Muhammad Bin Tughlaq of the Tughlaq Dynasty constructed his Dargah. Muhammad Bin Tughlaq was also an avid follower of Hazrat Nizamuddin Sahab. The descendants of Hazrat Nizamuddin take care of the Dargah even today.

Inside the Dargah:

If you like the old world charm of Delhi, you will get to see a lot of it in the Nizamuddin area, close to the Dargah. From the crowded street bustling with shops to polychrome clocks to a host of street vendors, you will find it all in Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah.

If you visit the Dargah towards the evening, you will find devotees singing qawwalis in the inlaid marble pavillion. These qawwalis are sung in the honor of the great Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusro.

According to Nizamuddin Dargah rules, women devotees are not allowed to go beyond the verandah, but they can peak through the marble jaali (a lattice screen of stone) to see the grave of Hazrat Nizamuddin, that lies in a dark chamber wrapped in chadar and flowers.

Locals claim that tying a thread on the jali reminds the saint of your wishes. So the next time you go, do take a thread and ask for what you wish to. Apart from the main shrine, you also also get to see tomb of the followers of Hazrat Nizamuddin called Jahen Ara Begum and Amir Khusro.

Within the premise of the dargah, one can also see the Jama’t Khana Mosque. It was built in 1325 AD. Another attraction in the place is the dargah of famous Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib. Some other important sight worth-a-visit that you will find in the Nizamuddin area include the Lal-Mahal, Chini Ka Burj, Kalan-Masjid, Ataga Khan's Tomb, Khan-I-Jahan Tilangani's Tomb, Barapula, Chaunsath Khamba, and Khan-I-Khanan's Tomb.

Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah Timings

Nizamuddin Dargah Visit timings are from 5:00 AM in the morning till 10:30 PM in the night.

Nizamuddin Dargah qawwali timing is from 6:00 PM to 7.30 PM and 9:00 PM to 10.30 PM on Thursdays.

There is no entry fee to visit the Dargah.

Instructions to visit Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah:

• There is no entry fees to visit the Dargah.
• The Nizamuddin Dargah is open for devotees on all days. Thursdays are a special attraction because of the qawwalis being sung between 6-7.30 PM and 9-10.30 PM in the open courtyard within the Dargah.
• This place is not included in the Ho Ho bus service route.
• There is mostly non-veg food available in the eateries situated in the lanes that lead to Dargah.
• It is expected that one enters the Dargah with his head covered. So do carry a stole, dupatta or a piece of cloth which can be used to cover head while you offer prayers.

How to reach Nizamuddin Dargah:

• Bus: DTC buses number 970B, 410CL, 408CL, 181A, 166, 894CL, 429CL, 429, 411, 410 can be used to travel to the dargah.
• Metro: Nearest Metro Stations to Nizamuddin dargah are Pragati Maidan Metro Station and Indraprastha Metro Station on the Blue line, at a distance of 6km and 5km respectively. One can take an auto, taxi or a bus to reach the Dargah.
• Auto-Rickshaw and Taxi: Delhi is well connected when it comes to taxis and auto-rickshaws. You can hire one on the road or book via apps like Ola, Uber, Jugnoo, et al. The service is frequent and reasonable.

I had an impromptu booking through Agoda and the front desk staff, Wasim in particular, patiently dealt with getting me checked in since the reservation had not yet transferred into the hotel's record. The room I assigned was quiet and very comfortable, and the breakfast included a large spread with all the usual items. I wish I could have lingered longer - the hotel is in a good central location and the service was top-notch.

This is one the the best hotels we've ever stayed in. We visited India for my husband's 50th birthday for 2 weeks. Housekeeping is always busy cleaning the rooms most of the day and they were always inquiring if everything in my room was OK. In the evenings, the “Kebab” restaurant serves 2 fixed-price meals – one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian. Each dish is served separately with lots of explanation, and that is nice for those wishing to have an introduction to Indian cuisine. It is nice experience to eat here just once. The other restaurant has a good choice to order from and this is also where the breakfast is served. The buffet breakfast offers a large choice but the waiters serving coffee and tea are often hard to find. Of course, there are numerous restaurants and coffee houses nearby in Connaught Place. Several times I used the hotel’s transfer service to and from the airport. It was always convenient and punctual although a local taxi would have been cheaper. Recently, I was in and away from Delhi several times and I kept returning to the Radisson as it seemed to fit my needs best and I never had any problems with anything in the room.

I would have occupied the same room and used the same facilities eitherway. Also 2 adults should be considered a standard occupancy for a hotel room.

KFC, Mcdonalds are just .. a local cafe is just outside the hotel.. so is an ice cream shop.. a big local bazaar is just 3 blocks away while one of the biggest government emporia is just a few minutes walk away just to avoid all the haggling and harrassment from bazaars.. these governemtn sposnsored stores are credit card accessible has wide selections, staff friendly, great choices with fitting rooms and comfort rooms available for customers..

I advise to you , Kindly start your gift card system again because this is a good initiation for attracting customers otherwise you will loose your customers. Nowadays I am booking hotel from other website because nowdays you have not provide gift cards.

We had a very nice stay at La Sagrita. We liked it so much that we change our booking at the end of our holiday so we could stay there again. It is very good value for money from a European perspective. It is in a very nice location and in a newly refurbished building and I would highly recommend it. There was really only one criticism. Our initial reaction was not great, I must admit. The staff at booking in were not particularly welcoming. A welcome pack and a few smiles would be a great improvement. However, after 2 days we met the Owner/ manager of the hotel who was lovely and very welcoming. He had been away when we first arrived and I think his presence was missed. He informed us they we in the process of printing a welcome pack. And one last thing. Some outside seating in the lovely front garden and just outside reception would by nice. The beds were fantastically comfortable and the bathroom we lovely too.

Every time a train entered or left the station, the train would blast it's hooter quite long and loud 2/3 times At 0600 hours we were woken up by the Mullah calling his followers to pray In general the hotel is quite noisy until about midnight from both internal and external noise, not excessive, but enough to stop you sleeping. The walls in the hotel are very thin and opening /closing of doors and people talking can be heard quite audibly The hotel kitchens are just below the ground floor. On one occasion (Midnight / 0100 am) I had to complain because the kitchen staff were making a lot of noise washing pots and pans in the yard adjacent to my room. On two other occasion before 0500 I was awoken by the kitchen staff sweeping the yard - I didn't complain on the latter, because I was too tired to get out of bed. The front of house staff are very good and polite, but I feel the back ground staff just do what they want whenever and and don't show the same considerations This holiday was not relaxing. I woke up most mornings feeling tired and felt fairly run down by the end of my holiday. This hotel is ideal if you just want to spend a couple of nights in Delhi, but I would not recommend it if you want to spend longer

The hotel is just off the central area of Connaught Circus and relatively close to the Nw Delhi railway station. The rooms are clean, although not very big. Breakfast offers both continental and Indian dishes.
