Murrells Inlet's Greatest Cruises
My girlfriend’s and I celebrated a birthday on this enchanted sunset cruise. Our Captain was professional, lovely, knowledgeable, engaging and fun. The boat is a beautiful vessel. A perfect BYOB mermaid sunset adventure! Thank you for such a memorable experience! A jewel of Merrill’s Inlet! Highly recommend for a romantic evening, group of friends or families with children. They have a special adventure for everyone!
"Our 5 year old absolutely loved it and for a month afterward has been asking about every other day if we can go again! Our 2 year old was a bit young and not sure what to think. It was a full adventure for the kids, finding things onboard, a water cannon fight with a "pirate," celebrating with fruit juice, etc. The crew had amazing energy and made sure all the kids had a fantastic time! I can't recommend this enough for people with young kids. I'd estimate it's best for 3-8 year olds. And it was a fantastic value. For our kids, this was the highlight of a week in and around Myrtle Beach."
"What a peaceful and pleasant evening cruise! The Captain and his Mate were very hospitable and meet our every need. The scenes were breathtaking and not only did we see the sun set but we captured the full moon arising and it was beyond words. Of course God is the master of the sun, moon, stars and our lives but He outdid Himself on this one and these folks were used of Him to escort us into the scene."

The Top 5 Myrtle Beach Boat Tours
March 13, 2020 by Pete Mischler Leave a Comment
It’s no secret that the lively city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is one of the most alluring oceanside destinations in North America. Travelers return time and time again because of the city’s rousing live shows , pristine beaches , and world-renowned golf courses . However, the warm, azure sea itself remains an enticing draw, particularly for those with a penchant for aquatic adventure. While it will be difficult to pry yourself from Ocean Annie’s Beach Bar this summer, we cannot blame you if a trip aboard one of the premier Myrtle Beach boat tours doesn’t pique your interest.
The Best Myrtle Beach Boat Tours
Ocean Annie’s Resorts not only boasts the top-reviewed beach bar on the Grand Strand, but guests can also take full advantage of free golf, free water park access, and free lunch. Guests are also urged to enhance their stay by purchasing tickets to mainstream attractions, such as the SkyWheel , Medieval Times , and Ripley’s Aquarium . And, you’ll be happy to read that our two adjacent resorts are a short drive from several of the most beloved North Myrtle Beach boat tours.
Set Sail for Paradise
Hit the open ocean with friends or family on Myrtle Beach’s largest chartered sailboat. Enchanted Sailing Charters offers nine unique excursions, ranging from a private sunset dinner cruise to an all-day voyage to serene Bird Island. This immaculate 44-foot sailboat is an idyllic vessel for those aiming to truly unwind far away from the city’s buzz.
Ahoy, Matey!
Families cannot resist the allure of Blackbeard’s Pirate Cruise , a visually-striking, heart-pounding interactive adventure that the kids won’t soon forget. You better catch up on your pirate lingo before arrival if you want to fit in with this group of chantey, plundering buccaneers. The voyage includes an interactive swordfight, free pirate tattoos, sailor songs, and, of course, the pursuit of Blackbeard’s lost treasure.
Guaranteed Dolphin Sightings
Climb aboard the Sea Screamer en route to the Atlantic Ocean’s hearth, where pods of curious, majestic bottlenose dolphins reside. The folks at Myrtle Beach Watersports continue to enhance this ultra-popular aquatic tour. Bottlenose dolphins are incredibly intelligent creatures. These slippery mammals are just as curious as we are—they consciously choose to be observed by boatloads of grinning onlookers.
BYOB Peddle Pub
The East Coast Brewboat is one of the last remaining Myrtle Beach boat tours that fly under the radar, primarily because it’s not geared toward families. However, as you can imagine, bachelor and bachelorette parties flock to this BYOB peddle pub. This one-of-a-kind, start-of-the-art vessel ambles through the peaceful, uninhabited marshlands near Murrells Inlet.
15 Knots Into the Past
The folks down at Plantation River Tours have happily filled a long-desired niche here in Myrtle Beach. In fact, only a couple of Myrtle Beach boat tours focus solely on observing Lowcountry plantations. Each 150-minute tour includes narration from a local historian, as well as “stops” at six jaw-dropping, beautifully-preserved plantations. You’ll also likely meander past a diverse collection of marshland critters, including alligators and osprey.
Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resorts
After a full day of live entertainment, shopping, and boat rides in Myrtle Beach, return to Ocean Annie’s Resorts for a soak in the Atlantic and a beachfront cocktail. Ocean Annie’s Beach Bar also frequently hosts live musicians that instinctively know how to rouse a crowd of sunbaked vacationers. To learn more about Ocean Annie’s many complimentary amenities or perhaps obtain a list of Myrtle Beach cruises, please give us a call today at 888-999-8081 .

We had a wonderful time with Carson and Forest. They played fun music and made us laugh. They had snacks and drinks for us. We were able to see birds and dolphins. I highly recommend choosing them for your cruise.
Our family had a great time on the Southern Shores catamaran. We caught a glimpse of 2 dolphins & a jellyfish while cruising.. spotted a crab on the island & found a perfect sand dollar! Forest & Carson were personable, knowledgeable & fun! I 100% recommend them & would take our family on their cruise again. Thank you for a fun time!
We had a wonderful time on our dolphin cruise with Forest and Spencer. The pair made our trip fun and entertaining all while feeling totally safe with my kids on the boat. Both were accommodating young men, we will be back with our next trip.

These tours offer a new and exciting experience to your vacation, right off the coast! We’ve put together a list of the best Myrtle Beach boat tours.
Myrtle Beach Dolphin Cruises
Dolphin cruises by myrtle beach watersports.
Myrtle Beach Watersports offers two fantastic dolphin cruises in the Myrtle Beach area. Aboard the Sea Thunder or Sea Screamer, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable two-hour-long ride, but these aren’t your average dolphin-watching cruises. Tours start with a narrated ride up the Intracoastal Waterway. The real adventure begins as the boats pick up speed heading towards the ocean. Once in the Atlantic, the dolphin watching begins as you travel along the Grand Strand’s gorgeous coastline. Tours are $28 for adults, $23 for seniors 60+ and $18 for children. Kids 2 and under are free. If you book online, there’s a $3 off coupon for adult tickets.
Dolphin Adventure Cruises by Voyager
Voyager offers a two-and-a-half-hour-long Dolphin Adventure Cruise . Once aboard the 75’ Starship cruiser, enjoy a ride down the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean. Voyager captains will find local shrimping boats to cruise alongside to give guests the best chance for seeing the magic of marine life as dolphins and sharks feed behind the boat. The Starship has restrooms, an air-conditioned cabin and a full galley on board with snacks and cold beverages. Tours are $28 for adults, $22 for children ages 3-12 and kids 2 and under are free.
Myrtle Beach Dolphin Watch & Ocean Sightseeing Cruise by Express Watersports
Express Watersports offers dolphin-watching experiences out of Murrells Inlet, located approximately 40 minutes south of Monterey Bay Suites . Dolphin cruises with Express last one and a half hours sailing through the Inlet into the Atlantic Ocean. Knowledgeable captains will educate guests on marine life and local history while riding from their private slip on the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk to the ocean. Guests will have the chance to see dolphins, sea turtles and other local marine life. Tours are $28 for adults, $20 for children ages 3-12 and free for kids 2 and under. Book your Myrtle Beach Dolphin Watch Cruise online today !
Dolphin Watch Trips by Action Water Sportz
Just like the name implies, Action Water Sportz takes dolphin watching to the next level with jet ski tours. After receiving training and instructions from Action’s experienced staff, guests will hop on their own jet ski and the group will head out on an adventure. The tour includes a stop at Barrier Island for exploring then out to the ocean for the highlight of the trip, sightseeing for the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin and other local marine life.
Dolphin Watch Trips last two hours and costs $190 per person. Guests must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver’s license to drive their own jet ski. Kids 18 and under may ride as a passenger with parental consent.

The Hurricane Fleet is the Original Myrtle Beach Dolphin Cruise company. We operate out of the closest port to the Atlantic Ocean, allowing for more time on the water….to search for Dolphins.
On days when the shrimp boats are running, we are able to pull right up behind to watch the dolphins feeding off the scraps and the nets coming out of the ocean full of fun critters. When the shrimp boat is running, the crew will toss up a bag of goodies for you to see, learn about, and touch if you’d like.
Our base is a cozy, quaint fishing town offering some of the world’s best seafood and unique shops. Located about 10 minutes outside of North Myrtle Beach, at the closest port to the ocean, you’ll have more time on the ocean enjoying the beautiful views of the Myrtle Beach area coastline.
This Dolphin Cruise & Tour runs from multiple times a day and our Sunset Dolphin Cruise is very popular and often sells out. Book early. Whichever tour you take, you’ll have time to eat fresh, world class seafood right in the village before or after your trip. It’s a fantastic combo that families have been enjoying for years. By far the best dolphin cruise we have been on! Great crew, very informative and amazing dolphin sightings, plus the captain got right behind the shrimp boat so we could watch them pull their nets and dump the shrimp. It was AMAZING!!
Great time here! Great staff, good value. Everything you need available. They have burgers, hot dogs, drinks, snacks, supplies Would definitely go with them again!
I cannot believe how many dolphins we saw today! They were so beautiful. We had the best day. I definitely recommend this!
We did the Dolphin tour. We saw several dolphins. It was well worth it to get out on the ocean. My daughter did get a little sea sick but got through it and obviously it was no fault of hurricane fleet just bring some dramamine along.
Wonderful experience! Highly recommended! Captain and crew were awesome!
We LOVED this trip! The mates were so funny and personable, the Captain was really informative and his commentary about all the things we saw was so interesting. He really seems to love sharing the intercoastal waterway with people. We saw dolphins two minutes out of the docks and the captain turned the boat so everyone had a chance to see them. It was magical. The price was incredibly reasonable for a nice long cruise and there is not one single thing I would see done differently. Can't wait to see them again next year!
Loved everything about the dolphin tour. Sadly we didn't see any dolphins, but the Capitan & crew were phenomenal. The boat ride was glorious! The scenery was beyond beautiful! Honestly, for the price, even without seeing any dolphins, I'd absolutely pay to do it again. Very much worth it!
We saw Dolphins!
Great experience we went on the dolphin cruise and everyone had a good time.
These guys were absolutely amazing! Just don’t bring bananas! Our family of seven took a dolphin cruise. Well worth the value, the crew on board was absolutely amazing! They showed the kids shark teeth shark jaws the captain got us right on dolphins. And just made it a very memorable experience. It gets windy on the water, bring a jacket, also be prepared for a fun ride! A special thanks to crew members, Callie and Colby, and a guy I never caught his name, but he had some slick sunglasses! Haha. Thank you! We took the 1:30p cruise.
Best dolphin cruise out there!
We had a great time! They were great with my kids and really made it enjoyable for all. My son kept calling him “my friend”.

“My family took the sunset dolphin tour. It was amazing! We had the pleasure of watching a large pod of dolphins follow a shrimping boat. Our Captain spent about 45 minutes following this boat and the dolphins, making sure everyone had the chance to get photos. If the dolphins were all on one side of the boat, he would turn it around so the other side could see. He was a fabulous Captain! He had alot of knowledge of the waterways and some history. I would recommend this tour to anyone! I will definitely be taking my family on this again next year when we are in Myrtle Beach!” – Amanda
2 hour jet ski tour was AMAZING!
“Me, my girlfriend,my sister and her boyfriend went on the 2 hour dolphin tour and it was amazing! We will do this every year we come to Myrtle it’s worth every penny. Thank you Sean for the free shirts. It’s not every day that happens. You will see us again! Thanks again!” – Andrew & Dana

The 5 Most Popular Sunset Cruises in Myrtle Beach
The beautiful ocean views beckon you to rise each morning here at The Strand Resort with most units facing directly along the Atlantic Ocean. Although, your balcony is the perfect place for you to take in the sunrise, where is the best location to watch the sun set? How about on the water, on a sunset cruise. The skies light up with the most breathtaking colors ranging from brilliant oranges, pinks and yellows as the sun dips below the horizon and begins to cool us off after a hot day at the beach. There are many ways to discover nature's handiwork, we thought we'd give you the inside scoop on some of the best sunset boating excursions in town. Here are some of our top picks.
Enchanted Sailing Charters: This charter is perfect for couples looking to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or just being together. The Enchantress is the largest chartered sailboat in the Myrtle Beach area, measuring an impressive 44 feet. Two cruises are available for those hoping to view the sunset in style. The PM Sunset Sail is a three-hour tour through Little River Inlet, passing the scenic Dunn Sound and the uninhabited Waties Island and Bird Island. The crew hoists the sails and heads into the Atlantic to give patrons a gorgeous sunset view over the coastline. Couples can buy tickets or reserve the entire vessel for a private sail. The Sunset Dinner Cruise departs the marina while you enjoy an appetizer, then anchors at Bird Island before serving a dinner catered by Snooky’s. The ticket includes a four-course meal, a three-hour cruise and a front-row seat to one of nature’s best shows.
Barefoot Princess Riverboat: This 64-foot-long, 24-foot-wide riverboat offers more than just a cruise down the shoreline. Guests admire the gorgeous Myrtle Beach sunset from closed and open decks, and dance to music provided by a DJ or live musicians. Join on the right nights, and the cruises may be timed to catch the fireworks at North Myrtle Beach’s Barefoot Landing. The Snack Bar is always open for visitors to purchase snacks and beverages. The 1.5-hour cruise is $23 for adults, $21 for locals and seniors, and $12 for children.
Express Watersports: This slow-paced cruise drifts along the waters of Murrells Inlet after departing from the company’s private dock. Patrons can watch the sun slip behind the horizon as they enjoy complimentary Inlet Rum Punch and wine while snacking on a cheese platter. Get your picture taken to capture the serenity and beauty forever. The one-hour cruise is $30 for adults and $25 for kids 12 and under. Express Watersports recommends bringing a valid government-issued photo I.D. and a camera. Groups with reservations must arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.
Crazy Sister Marina: A two-hour Beach and Ocean Sightseeing Cruise on the New Inlet Princess is a wonderful way to take in everything the shoreline has to offer. Patrons sail from the Crazy Sister Marina in Murrells Inlet and travel as far as the SkyWheel. Not only will guests enjoy breathtaking views of the sunset along the marsh and ocean, but it is possible that various types of sea life will be seen along the way. This vessel offers access to an air-conditioned cabin, a snack bar and onboard bathrooms. An adult ticket is $30, and tickets cost $20 for children age 3 to 12. Reservations are recommended for this cruise.
East Coast BrewBoat: The East Coast BrewBoat is a new addition to the waters of Myrtle Beach. This one-of-a-kind experience is perfect for those who love biking, boating and beer. Patrons pedal their way along the Murrells Inlet marshlands while enjoying drinks and music. Imagine having a couple drinks and laughs with your friends while pedaling yourself into the sunset. The cruise is BYOB (or BYOW), but cups, coolers and ice are provided. The one-hour cruise is $25 for an individual seat. It costs $325 for a private charter of up to 15 people. Though there are currently no age restrictions, you must be over 21 and have a valid photo I.D. to bring wine or beer aboard.
After an evening on the water, head back to The Strand resort where you can enjoy a drink from the bar or a moonlight stroll on the beach before heading to bed for a good night's sleep. Before you know it, the first peaks of daylight will be waking you up to begin another amazing day here in Myrtle Beach.

10 Best Beach Towns in South Carolina, According to Locals
These are the best beach towns in South Carolina — from Charleston favorites to lesser-known ocean-front communities.
Dan Reynolds Photography/Getty Images
South Carolina is divided into four distinct regions: the Lowcountry, the Pee Dee, the Midlands, and the Upstate. While the latter two are beautiful in their own right, the first two can claim the state’s coastal areas — including its famous laid-back beach towns. From Myrtle Beach down to Hilton Head Island, wide stretches of sand, palmetto trees, bike paths, quaint boardwalks, and fresh seafood abound.
I’ve spent much of my life frequenting the Palmetto State’s beach towns — visiting Kiawah Island every year and even living in Charleston for a period. So using my own experience, as well as the expertise of a few locals, we narrowed down the list of the best beach towns in South Carolina to 10. See if your favorite made the cut below.
Folly Beach
Chris Marinaccio/Travel + Leisure
"As someone who lives 10 minutes from Folly Beach, I certainly feel like I am on vacation where I live,” Katie Hirsch, the director and chief curator of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art , tells Travel + Leisure . It’s one of the closest beach towns to Charleston, so it’s a great option for a day trip if you’re visiting the Holy City; just be sure to arrive on the earlier side if you want to beat the crowds and have an easier time parking. Plus, “if you're an early riser,” says Hirsch, you might want to “try finding shark teeth during a morning beach walk.” She also recommends grabbing some food at local favorite Jack of Cups Saloon for “unexpected bites inspired by Asian cuisine.”

Hilton Head Island
"Hilton Head Island is one of the best places to escape to if you want to be near a beach town but want a different environment from Charleston,” explains Hirsch. “It has modern touches but still keeps its Southern charm, appealing to both tourists and locals alike.” Hilton Head is known for its golf courses and bike trails, but there’s something for everyone on the 12-mile-long, five-mile-wide island. Gullah heritage tours, boat rides, paddleboarding, and birding are all itinerary contenders, and Hirsch also says the destination has “some of the best thrift stores.” If that’s up your alley, save an afternoon for exploring the goods at The Bargain Box , My Sister’s Closet, and The Church Mouse .

Isle of Palms
abalconis/Getty Images
I’ve spent countless days on Isle of Palms, a small barrier island just under 30 minutes from downtown Charleston. It’s one of the more family-friendly beaches in the area, with many visitors opting to stay at Wild Dunes Resort or rent a roomy oceanfront home. No matter where you are on the island, though, its leisurely pace, wide beach, and classic small-town features will entice visitors of all ages. One of my favorite things to do on “IOP,” as the locals call it, is to grab dinner at Islander 71 and watch the boats come in and out of the marina. I’d also recommend checking out the live music schedule at The Windjammer — or picking up a to-go frosé from The Co-Op .
Sullivan’s Island
benkrut/Getty Images
Named one of the best beach towns on the East Coast , Sullivan’s Island continues to be a favorite — especially for Charlestonians. “The beach is very relaxed, and the marsh views are second to none,” says Betsy Fuller, owner of A Maker’s Post . “If you’re visiting, I’d recommend taking a long beach walk ending at Station 22.5, so you can head into ‘town,’ aka Middle Street, to do a little shopping.” This part of Sullivan’s Island is popular for its various eateries; there’s everything from Mexican and barbecue to burgers and seafood. Fuller recommends getting a table at High Thyme or The Obstinate Daughter — then grabbing a nightcap at Dunleavy’s.

The second-oldest city in South Carolina, Beaufort is often compared to Charleston; it’s historic, beautiful, and filled with oak trees and amazing architecture. Its proximity to the water is also a perk. Similarly to Charleston, you’ll have to drive a bit out of the main hub to get to the beach. If you don’t mind parking your beach chair by Battery Creek, rather than the Atlantic Ocean, make your way to the Sands Beach on the southern end of Port Royal. The beach is free to the public, and there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained, including shark tooth hunting, a boardwalk, and an observation tower. For true oceanfront beaches, you’ll need to drive to Hunting Island State Park, where five miles of beautiful beaches live alongside marshes, a saltwater lagoon, and maritime forests.

Pawleys Island
makasana/Getty Images
Relaxation is paramount when you’re visiting Pawleys Island, a barrier island beach town located between Myrtle Beach and Charleston. This is the type of place where time automatically slows, where you’re encouraged to log off, and where you can see the unparalleled natural splendor of South Carolina’s coast. Spend your days crabbing, surfing (if the waves permit), fishing, golfing, or dining on classic Lowcountry staples; just don’t forget to save time for the art of doing absolutely nothing. For a particularly rejuvenating getaway, book a room at The Pelican Inn , an eight-bedroom bed-and-breakfast with a number of reading nooks and places to take a nap.
Murrells Inlet
LCBallard/Getty Images
Murrells Inlet, or the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina,” makes this list for a few reasons. For starters, the historic fishing village has a feature known as MarshWalk. The wooden boardwalk spans a half-mile along a natural saltwater estuary and several restaurants, including Bovine’s , Wahoo’s Fish House , and The Claw House . In between trips to the far-from-crowded Huntington Beach State Park , visitors should make a point to stop by Brookgreen Gardens , a zoo and 9,100-acre sculpture garden. Murrells Inlet was also previously the location of Goat Island, which Hirsch calls a “spectacle to see,” but as of 2023, the resident goats have been replaced with metal goat replicas as high tides posed too much of a threat to the animals.
Edisto Beach
Wolfgang Kaehler/LightRocket via Getty Images
Edisto Beach isn’t your typical, buzzy beach town — and that’s the beauty of it. There are no stoplights, high rises, or chain restaurants on the entirety of Edisto Island, and the beach town itself wholeheartedly embraces the magic of slow living. For entertainment, visitors can (respectfully) explore the 4.5 miles of coastline, take a dip in the ocean, and search for shells, shark teeth, and other fossils that may wash up on shore. Biking, kayaking, and dolphin tours are also favorite vacation additions. But if there’s absolutely one thing you can’t miss while visiting Edisto Beach? The glorious sunsets. Bring a blanket to Edisto Beach State Park, sit back, and enjoy the show.

Myrtle Beach
DenisTangneyJr/Getty Images
Myrtle Beach may technically be a city, but it has all of the trappings of your classic beach town. There’s a bustling boardwalk, golf courses, go-karts, souvenir shopping, and, of course, a number of public beaches. “I’ve always been drawn to the nostalgia that you can find on Myrtle Beach,” says Fuller. “One of my favorite movies, “Shag,” is set there, and whenever I watch it, I daydream about going back to visit the beach town in the 1950s.” And while it might be synonymous with spring break crowds and families on summer vacation, this is a destination that delivers — whether you’re hoping to spend the day by the water or keeping your schedule full, from sun-up to sundown.

Kiawah Island
KathyKafka/Getty Images
“Beach town” has different associations for different people. To me, a beach town is somewhere that’s easily navigable by bike; it’s a place with only a few shops that all, for the most part, sell some form of sun hat or location-specific t-shirt. In South Carolina, a beach town also evokes a nostalgic mix of humidity, salt water, and the smell of pluff mud. Kiawah Island meets all of these criteria — and then some. A majority of the island functions as a gated private community, accessible only to residents, their guests, and those with reservations, though there are a couple of areas open to the public, namely Kiawah Beachwalker Park and Freshfields Village. At the latter, you can load up on all your vacation essentials — groceries, beach reads, bathing suits, and more.

Say the words " beach trip " to half a dozen people, and they are likely to summon distinct vacation visions. Some are sleepy and sun soaked, while others are packed with outdoor adventure or shopping excursions. That's why it's key to pick a place that can satisfy everyone's wish list. As the anchor of a 60-mile stretch of Grand Strand waterfront communities, each with its own unique appeal, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina , is perfectly positioned to cater to just about any crew's ideal coastal escape. There's plenty to do in any season, but the best months to visit Myrtle Beach are June through August for perfect beach weather. Visit in the fall to avoid the crowds and still find lots to do. Innovative epicurean experiences? Check. Fresh seafood ? Check. Boutique-shopping districts loaded with charm? Check. Lush landscaped gardens, moonlit kayak tours, and live music spilling out into the streets? Check, check, and check. Visitors can plan a fun, affordable trip to Myrtle Beach. For cheaper rates, look for rooms and specials in the off season.
With so much variety offered, all you need to bring to ensure a good time is plenty of SPF—and a solid game plan for your vacation. That's where we come in. Check out these things to do for a perfect Myrtle Beach trip.
Wake Up To Ocean Views
Book your group into a beachside escape.
If having a central location to slather on sunscreen together in the morning (or sip nightcaps in your pajamas at day's end) is key for your group, book a stay at the Island Vista Resort, where the multi-room suites sleep up to 10, and feature amenities such as full kitchens, cozy living and dining areas, ocean-view balconies, and laundry machines. It's billed as "the only oceanfront hotel for nearly a mile in either direction." So, with big buffers separating the resort's wide, clean beach from the nearest hotels, it feels fully removed from the rowdy crowds and miniature golf madness of the city's more densely developed areas.
islandvista.com , 6000 North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Indulge At A Four-Star, Oceanfront Resort
Two miles northeast of the Island Vista Resort, there's also Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes, which is the gold standard of the Grand Strand. Here, the lack of large-group lodging options is offset by luxe, recently refreshed rooms and a quiet, full-service spa . Pair beach views with spa experiences, and you're setting yourself up for a fantastic vacation. No matter where you stay, be sure to pack the essentials: lightweight layers, a wide-brimmed hat, and plenty of SPF. The town's vibe is casual, but you'll want to bring a few nicer outfits for nights out.
marriott.com/en-us/hotels/myrgd-marriott-myrtle-beach-resort-and-spa-at-grande-dunes/overview , 8400 Costa Verde Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
Tour The Beach Bar Scene
Hit the boardwalk bars.
Start things off on a high (make that high-energy) note with a cruise through the open-air bars clustered near the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, with their big people-watching patios and party-time vibes. You'll find all the daiquiris and piña coladas you could hope for, but a trip here isn't all sugary frozen drinks and oversized fishbowls. It's worth veering slightly off the main drag for something with a little more personality and polish too.
myrtlebeach.com/things-to-do/myrtle-beach-boardwalk-entertainment-district , Between Second Avenue North and 15th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC
Duck Into A Speakeasy For Lowcountry Cocktails
The Prohibition-themed Strong Waters Craft Cocktails & Kitchen, which flies fittingly under the radar, rotates a seasonal menu of local-leaning microbrews but always keeps two in-house, barrel-aged cocktails on tap, along with a Bartender's Choice option for indecisive—or adventurous—tipplers. They say it's "a speakeasy where the drinks are as strong as the current in the ocean," so come prepared for a good time. It's also a hub for live music and fantastic sandwiches and burgers.
strongwatersbar.com , 2005 A North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Raise The Roof With Sunset Views
Closer to the water, find RipTydz Oceanfront Grille & Rooftop Bar, which is owned by the folks behind Wicked Tuna in Murrells Inlet. With over 500 seats and 17,000 sprawling square feet, RipTydz has room for everyone. It raises the (beach) bar with a menu of super-fresh seafood (including raw bar selections and seafood towers), a sprawling rooftop restaurant that transforms into a club, and a top-notch perch for sunsets.
riptydz.com , 1210 North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Taste Handmade Beers And Spirits
Tap into local brews.
When it's time to enjoy a sip of a local brew, make your way to Grand Strand Brewing Company, which opened in 2021 and is the city's exciting destination for craft beers, sampling (which you can do indoors and out), a taproom turning out handmade beers , and tasty eats from an on-site kitchen that invites local chefs to cook and share. You'll find a bit of everything here, including sours, pilsners, and stouts with local flair.
grandstrandbrewing.com , 819 North Kings Highway Unit 101, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Hang At A Beer Garden
Head to Barefoot Landing to check out Crooked Hammock Brewery, which draws beer and food lovers from near and far with its restaurant and beer garden. It's a family-friendly hangout with craft beers; ribs, cornbread, and giant pretzels on the menu; seating both indoors and out; fire pits for cool nights; hammocks for hanging out; and places to play for kids and adults. (Corn hole, anyone?)

Sip Locally Sourced Spirits
For even more fun, there's also Twelve 33 Distillery, a craft production distillery that sources locally and offers tours and tastings. Check out the recent releases to find out what delicious spirits they're cooking up on the coast. All of the grains and other ingredients they use to make their handcrafted spirits come from local farms. In addition to tastings, you can also book guided tours to learn about each part of the distilling process.

Try A Wine Tasting
There's wine to be found on this slice of coast too. Sidle up to Duplin Winery in North Myrtle Beach. Located near Barefoot Landing, here you can sip and listen to live music, or enjoy a wine tasting with friends where you'll sample 10 different wines. In the area, there are also tasting rooms at La Belle Amie Vineyard, Carolina Vineyards Winery, and Wine Therapy .

Choose From Diverse Lowcountry Dining Spots
Dine on the daily catch.
In the evenings, locals descend on the lively joints along Main Creek in Murrells Inlet. Many of these spots employ their own fleets of fishing boats to deliver the daily catch. Don't miss Dead Dog Saloon, which is beloved for its live music and seafood; The Claw House, a New England-style lobster house and raw bar; and Drunken Jack's, long known for its fried seafood platter and often legendary wait times.

Weigh All The Waterfront Options
Speaking of waterfront dining , there's no shortage of options, attitudes, and dress codes to choose from, and you and your traveling companions can easily divide your time between fancier environs and flip-flop–friendly joints. For brunch, there's 60-year-old Myrtle Beach mainstay the Sea Captain's House, a 1930s home with a grassy lawn that backs up to the sand. Regulars go for Crab Cakes Benedict and the restaurant's signature She Crab Soup.

Find Your Favorite Flavors
Chef-owned 42nd Street Bar and Grill serves apps, salads, seafood, steaks, and more with Asian and European flavors, from shrimp gyoza to beef and mushroom Wellington. Another favorite located on the Grand Strand is the Opa Opa Taverna & Bakery, which can be found in the Grand Dunes village shops. Don't miss the Greek classics on the menu, including baklava, spanakopita, and tiropita.

Explore Sustainable Eateries
There are worthy exceptions to the always-eat-on-the-water rule. Hook & Barrel in Myrtle Beach is a new sustainable-seafood restaurant from cookbook author Heidi Vukov. The eco-friendly restaurant uses local produce to craft coastal dishes. On the menu, you'll find she crab soup as well as smoked shrimp and grits, crab cakes, and cioppino.
hookandbarrelrestaurant.com , 8014 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
Try Elevated Fare
There's also the locally sourced fare at Pawleys Island favorite Rustic Table from co-owners Anne Hardee and chef Adam Kirby. Be sure to order a tomato sandwich with clam chowder or a salad with pecan-encrusted flounder, or try one of their signature items, like shrimp 'n' grits—with creamed corn grits, shrimp, sausage, tomatoes, parsley, butter, white wine, and lemon.
rustictable.com , 10683 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, SC 29585
Travel For Farm-To-Table Cuisine
If time permits during your trip, travel 20 miles to Little River to dine on farm-to-table cuisine (which is paired with an expertly curated wine list) at The Parson's Table. It's housed in a converted 1885 church featuring a mix of salvaged elements from other decommissioned houses of worship across the South.
parsonstable.com , 4305 McCorsley Avenue, Little River, SC 29566
Gawk At Goats Before Dinner
For a pre-dinner diversion, stroll along the half-mile MarshWalk and have a look at the goats and peacocks inhabiting tiny Goat Island offshore. Then, for something different, enjoy the elevated Italian eatery Costa Coastal Kitchen & Bar just down from Murrells Inlet's busy strip of restaurants and bars.

Shop Stunning Swimwear From A Carolina Designer
Visitors can hardly hurl a seashell in this town without hitting one of those ubiquitous beach-gear emporiums that are bursting at the seams with cheap T-shirts and fidget spinners. But there are more compelling options here too. Start with a swimwear upgrade from Tara Grinna, a line of fit-focused suits, separates, and cover-ups sold at namesake storefronts in North Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island. Pink flamingo with Solo cup to flowers: Myrtle Beach SC area boats spread ashes in ocean
Boat Captain John Jaques has been helping families spread their loved one’s ashes in the ocean for more than 16 years.
And while Jaques has seen a lot of ways people have chosen to celebrate the deceased, he had to admit he was surprised by the contents of one box delivered to his home.
Inside were a container with the ashes, pink flamingo float, a Solo cup and a letter. It described how the family’s mother would bring them to the Myrtle Beach area and it was a “magical time in my childhood,” Jaques recalls. The letter described how the mother would sit on the beach, drink her drink and watch the children play. The family wanted Jaques to spread her ashes with the cup in the float.
Jaques did as requested, but added one more thing. He found out the mother liked to drink margaritas, so on the day of the service he filled the cup with a margarita and dropped it into the ocean.
As funeral costs continue to rise, cremation has become a popular, and less costly, option for families after a loved one dies. Many of those families opt to choose a special place for the cremated remains.
Jaques and other boat charter services in the Myrtle Beach area have seen an increase in the number of people seeking to have their loved one’s ashes spread in the ocean.
In addition to a spreading of the ashes service Jaques had scheduled the morning of April 22, he also had at least six more scheduled for the following week, he said.
“Spreading ashes in the ocean gives it a special sort of meaning,” said Jaques, adding that it was a day of celebrating someone’s life.
Memorial different for each family
Jaques captains the boat Enchantress, which is docked at the Cricket Cove Marina in Little River. He works for the company Enchanted Sailing Charters that offers the service of spreading ashes.
The service takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, Jaques said. While the memorial is different for each family, generally Jaques reads a poem and then spreads the ashes among flowers that he cut from around his home. Jaques then records the date, time and coordinates and sends them to the family in case they ever want to come back and visit the location.
Jaques tries to make the service as special as he can, understanding what it means to lose a loved one.
He and his wife recently lost their 37-year-old daughter Jessica, who suffered from addiction. On the morning the father of six and grandfather of seven received the news of Jessica’s death, Jaques had just found a new poem that he wanted to read at upcoming services.
Jaques plans to spread Jessica’s ashes in the ocean, a place that she loved, he said.
“It makes me happy that I’ve ever had her in my life,” Jaques said about his daughter.
What does the law require?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulates the spreading of ashes in the ocean, requiring that people be at least three nautical miles in the ocean before the ashes can be placed in the water. It also requires a permit.
The EPA does not permit the scattering at beaches or in wading pools by the sea. In addition, you must notify the EPA within 30 days of scattering ashes at sea.
There were seven burial at sea permits filed in South Carolina in 2020, the latest numbers available online. But the numbers are more than likely higher as each company must file a permit for the service.
The EPA’s regulations include what can and cannot be placed with the ashes. That includes flowers and wreaths that are plastic or synthetic and would not be expected to decompose rapidly.
Jaques has seen many biodegradable items being used during services, including urns and sea creatures, such as turtles, which can hold the ashes before they are placed in the ocean and eventually sink.
How much does it cost?
Jennifer Jones-Poore said cremation is a more affordable option for many people.
The co-owner of Express Watersports in Murrells Inlet said the 27-year-old company offers the service of spreading ashes in the ocean and has been doing so for about 15 years. It began after the business received a number of requests to do it, Jones-Poore said. It has only increased over the years, she said.
“It’s a growing concept for people to embrace,” Jones-Poore said.
The company even honored one of its own about six years ago when employee Chris Chong, a scuba diver, passed away. Jones-Poore said his family came from Malaysia and they spread his ashes in the ocean.
It costs $800 at Express Watersports to secure the boat that can hold up to 42 passengers and be used for up to hours. The company also offers places where family members can get biodegradable flowers and items, as well as catering.
At Enchanted Sailing Charters, a private cruise for up to six people costs $565 and $1,130 for seven to 12 people.
“I think it’s another great option for people to be able to go and be a part of the ever changing nature and ocean, Jones-Poore said. “The closure is a little bit different, and that’s what people are looking for.”
