ATM 2024: Emirates and MSC Cruises renew partnership for two more seasons
For the next two years, guests can book a Fly&Cruise holiday package with MSC Cruises
Dubai: Emirates and MSC Cruises have renewed their partnership for another two seasons.
Announced at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, the partnership builds on an existing 10-year relationship and will leverage the airline's and MSC Cruises's strengths to enhance the guest experience and support the growth of Dubai's cruise tourism ecosystem.
For the next two years, guests can book a Fly&Cruise holiday package with MSC Cruises, which includes Emirates return flights from 21 airports across Europe and South America.
Nabil Sultan, Emirates' Executive Vice President for Passenger Sales and Country Management, said, "We're eager to continue our partnership with MSC Cruises, which has been an integral part of Dubai's growing cruise tourism industry. We're confident that we have the right plans as we work closely to deliver a seamless sea-to-air experience for our customers."
Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, said, "We are delighted to further extend our partnership with Emirates for MSC Euribia Fly&Cruise packages from Dubai this winter season. Guests will benefit from a streamlined journey from home to ship and a dedicated support team for a stress-free start and end to their holiday."
Emirates and MSC Cruises' partnership will continue to focus on joint promotional strategies, such as Fly&Cruise and marketing campaigns in key markets, to boost Dubai's appeal as a cruise destination.
The airline and MSC Cruises will also focus on sharing relevant data and insights to improve service delivery, coordinate flight and cruise schedules, and facilitate a smooth check-in process at Port Rashid.
The benefits of the Fly&Cruise packages include being met at arrivals with a dedicated bus transfer to the ship. On return, guests can drop their bags in the cruise terminal and collect them directly once they arrive at their destination.
Capitalising on Emirates' extensive international network, the MSC Fly&Cruise packages, including Emirates flights, are available from Italy (Milan, Rome), Germany (Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Dusseldorf), United Kingdom (London Heathrow, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle) and Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Lisbon, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna, Zurich and São Paulo.

Israel-Gaza latest: Battles rage across Gaza amid upsurge in fighting as Israel targets Rafah
Palestinians are marking the 76th anniversary of the Nakba - or catastrophe - in which Israel forced more than 700,000 people from their homes. The Israeli defence minister is due to provide an update on security matters - amid rising tensions in southern Lebanon and an operation in Rafah.

More on Israel's faltering relationship with the United Nations now.
Israel has claimed its troops struck and killed Hamas targets hiding inside the organisation's Palestinian relief agency (UNRWA) to the east of Rafah.
The Reuters news agency verified the location of footage released by the Israeli army but could not confirm when it was filmed or the identity of the men.
"The UN has in part become a terrorist entity in itself because it cooperates with Hamas and covers for it," Israel's ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan told Army Radio.
UNRWA has denied allegations of cooperating with Hamas.
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters the men were there to protect aid distribution.
"These are false allegations and lies. This is a police force tasked with securing aid centers against acts of theft and looting," he said.
As we brought you earlier, the UN is separately looking into an unidentified strike on one of its cars in Rafah on Monday - which left one of its international workers dead (see 10.40am post).
Benjamin Netanyahu's office has issued a statement calling for the United Nations to stop promoting calls to recognise the Palestinian state.
"We will not let them establish a terror state from which they can attack us even more," Mr Netanyahu said.
"Nobody will prevent us, Israel, from exercising our basic right to defend ourselves - not the UN General Assembly and not any other entity."
The UN's General Assembly voted 143-9 last Friday in favour of Palestine becoming a full member of the international organisation.
The vote grants new rights and privileges to Palestine but not full UN membership - which requires Security Council approval. It's highly unlikely to get that given the US' power of veto in that chamber.
Israeli troops have been fighting militants across Gaza today - including in the southern city of Rafah that had been a refuge for civilians - in an upsurge of the more than seven-month war that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's army has in recent days pressed into the east of Rafah in pursuit of what it says are four Hamas battalions, despite widespread international warnings - including from its ally the US - to hold off to avoid mass civilian casualties.
Since Hamas' 7 October attack, Israel has killed 35,000 Palestinians, according to health officials in Hamas-run Gaza, with 82 killed yesterday in the highest single day toll for weeks.
Hamas-led gunmen killed around 1,200 people in their initial raid, according to Israeli tallies, and still hold 128 hostages out of 252 they captured in their cross-border raid.
In the northern Jabalia refugee camp, residents said Israeli tanks had destroyed clusters of homes but were facing heavy resistance.
"They are bombing houses on top of their inhabitants. We know of many families being trapped inside their homes," said local Abu Jehad.
Hamas ally Islamic Jihad said it killed some foot soldiers in Jabalia, while Israel's military said it had eliminated "a large number of terrorists" in the camp, which it had claimed to have cleared months ago.
In Rafah, where more than one million of Gaza's 2.3 million people had fled from fighting elsewhere, residents said Palestinian gunmen were trying to prevent Israeli soldiers and tanks pushing towards the centre.
Israel said its troops targeted a training compound in the city's east, killing militants in close-quarters combat and finding large amounts of weapons.
Israel reported one death in south Gaza which public broadcaster Kan said was the first such fatality since the start of a ground operation there last week.
Over the past day, aircraft hit about 80 targets in Gaza, Israel's military said.
These images show Palestinians living in Israel commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Nakba.
You can learn more about the history of the "Day of the Catastrophe" in our 10.28am post.
The United Nations has launched an investigation into an unidentified strike on one of its cars in Rafah.
The strike, which took place on Monday, killed UN international staff for the first time since this most recent conflict broke out in Gaza on 7 October, according to a spokesperson.
The staffer, a retired Indian army officer named Waibhav Anil Kale, was working with the UN Department of Safety and Security and was on route to the European Hospital in Rafah along with a colleague, who was also injured in the attack.
Israel's defence minister, Yoav Gallant, will address the media during a security briefing at 4pm UK time (6pm in Israel).
This comes as tensions rise with Hezbollah on Israel's northern border, and IDF operations in the southern Gazan city of Rafah contine.
Meaning "Day of the Catastrophe", Nakba Day is when Palestinians commemorate the dispossession of their people.
It marks the displacement of Palestinians that occurred around the Israeli Declaration of Independence and the 1948 war.
How was it marked?
Small-scale commemorations were held until the early 1990s when they took on a more prominent role in public Palestinian life - ultimately leading to it being officially inaugurated by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in 1998.
It is often marked through protest, strikes and visiting the graves of those killed in the conflict.
What was the 1948 war?
In 1917, the British government issued a public statement known as the Balfour Declaration announcing support for the establishment of a "home for the Jewish people" in Palestine.
At the time, the Jewish population in the region was around 4%.
By 1936, Palestinians fought back against mass Jewish immigration. The British response saw almost 200 Palestinians die and more than 800 wounded before the Palestinians were persuaded to stand down.
The following year, a British inquiry looking into the causes of unrest in the region recommended that Palestine be split. One third was to be given to the Jewish state, the remainder left to the Arab Palestinians. A corridor from Jerusalem to Jaffa would remain under British authority.
A bloody backlash resulted and the matter was taken to the UN, which divided Palestine into an Arab and a Jewish state, with Jerusalem as an internationalised, or shared, city.
Britain announced it would end its mandate in Palestine on 14 May 1948, a date now known as Israeli Independence Day.
Jewish paramilitary forces swept in and on 15 May, the 10 months of fighting that would become known as the 1948 Arab-Israeli war began.
More than 700,000 Palestinian Arabs were forced to flee their homes, ending up in refugee camps in Gaza, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
This displacement - which many historians now describe as ethnic cleansing - is known to Palestinians as an-Nakba.
What happened next?
Although Nakba Day marks the beginning of the 1948 war, matters were exacerbated by the Six-Day War in 1967.
This clash was the result of the festering territorial conflict that had not been resolved following the events of 1948.
This brief but bloody war, which saw some 20,000 Arab troops die compared to fewer than 1,000 Israelis, saw the Jewish State claim further land.
Most of the areas claimed by the State of Palestine have been occupied by Israel since 1967.
What does the United Nations say?
"As early as December 1948, the UN General Assembly called for refugee return, property restitution and compensation (resolution 194 (II)).
"However, 75 years later, despite countless UN resolutions, the rights of the Palestinians continue to be denied.
"According to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) more than five million Palestine refugees are scattered throughout the Middle East.
"Today, Palestinians continue to be dispossessed and displaced by Israeli settlements, evictions, land confiscation and home demolitions."
Hello and welcome back to our live coverage of the Israel-Hamas war.
Today is Nakba Day - a date Palestinians remember the dispossession of their people.
It's been just over 76 years since Israel declared its independence as a state, and today is known in the Arabic world as the ""Day of the Catastrophe".
We'll be bringing you the latest from Israel and Gaza, as well as updates from the wider Middle East region and any other international news as the day goes on.
We're likely to hear from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later, when he speaks with American broadcasters in the wake of the US' decision to pause offensive weapons shipments.
We've paused our live coverage of the Israel-Gaza war, but if you're just dipping into the blog, here's a quick rundown of what's happened so far this week:
- Israeli forces have pushed deeper into eastern Rafah today, reaching some built-up areas where more than a million people displaced by fighting elsewhere have been sheltering;
- The country has vowed to continue its operation in Gaza's southernmost city to root out Hamas despite repeated warnings from allies and aid groups that the ground offensive could lead to a humanitarian disaster;
- Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant said yesterday that he'd briefed US secretary of state Antony Blinken on the "precise operation" in Rafah - but the US diplomat later told Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Shoukry that Washington does not support a major ground operation in the city;
- The IDF claims today to have killed "several armed terrorist" cells in fighting on the Gaza side of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt;
- Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said actions by the Israeli military in Rafah have hindered ceasefire talks being mediated by Qatar and Egypt;
- The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has also warned that nowhere is safe in Gaza, with civilians facing "constant exhaustion, hunger and fear";
- Away from Rafah, fierce fighting is also raging in the north, as the Israeli military pushes back into areas where it claimed to have dismantled Hamas earlier this year. Israel says the move is to prevent the militant group from rebuilding;
- In the northern Jabalia refugee camp, residents reported seeing Israeli forces trying to reach as deep as the camp's local market under heavy fire;
- According to the Palestinian health ministry, Israel's offensive in Gaza has killed at least 35,173 Palestinians and wounded 70,061 more since 7 October. Some 82 people have been killed in the past 24 hours alone, it said this morning.
Firefighters are battling a large blaze in Kiryat Shmona, a city in northern Israel, after 35 rockets were fired by Lebanon's Hezbollah, according to The Times of Israel.
The news site cited the Israel Fire and Rescue Services as saying 10 firefighting teams were at the scene.
Video posted on social media appeared to show the fire on what looked like the side of a hill.
No casualties or injuries have been reported.
