FAQs About Memory Quotes

A good quote for memories that encapsulates their bittersweet nature and lasting impact is by Lois Lowry, from “The Giver”: “Memories warm you up from the inside. But they also tear you apart.” This quote succinctly expresses the dual nature of memories as sources of comfort and sometimes pain, reflecting their deep significance in our lives.

Memorable quotes are phrases or sayings that leave a lasting impact due to their profound meaning, emotional resonance, or unique insight. These quotes often encapsulate universal truths or experiences in a few words, making them easily remembered and shared.

They can come from various sources, including literature, speeches, movies, or the sayings of well-known individuals. Memorable quotes have the power to inspire, provoke thought, offer comfort, or succinctly capture the essence of a moment or feeling.

Writing a caption for memories involves combining sentimentality with personal reflection in a way that is both heartfelt and evocative. Start by identifying the emotion or essence of the memory you wish to capture, whether it’s joy, nostalgia, love, or sorrow. Then, craft a brief statement that encapsulates these feelings, making sure it resonates with the imagery or moment you’re highlighting.

A good memory caption might include references to the people, places, or sensations involved, and often reflects a universal truth or personal insight, making the memory relatable and profound. For example, “Remembering this moment, where happiness was not just an emotion, but our reality.”

An emotional quote for old memories that captures their profound and nostalgic essence is by Haruki Murakami from “Kafka on the Shore”: “Memories are what warm you up from the inside. But they’re also what tear you apart.” This quote highlights the complex nature of reminiscing on the past—how it can provide comfort, yet also bring feelings of longing or sadness for what is no longer present.

It speaks to the heart of experiencing old memories, acknowledging their warmth and the pain they can inflict simultaneously.

Only then can we truly embrace diversity and appreciate the richness of the world around us.

Remember what God has done for you.

We often run into difficulties that cause us to worry and doubt God. Remembering the faithfulness of the Lord in our lives helps us to trust in the Lord while going through trials. It also will help us when Satan tries to cause us to doubt God’s goodness.

I loved the words of Charles Spurgeon, “Memory is a fit handmaid for faith. When faith has its seven years of famine, memory like Joseph in Egypt opens her granaries.” Not only should we be remembering God’s great works, but we should also meditate on them day and night. Meditating on God’s past faithfulness has helped me to have peace and joy in trials that I have undergone. I’ve noticed a deep and genuine thankfulness for the Lord while going through these trials. Our memories will become some of our greatest praises. Use memories as a point to drive you in prayer.

Never cease remembering God and His goodness throughout your life. Sometimes when I look back I can’t help but shed tears of gratitude because I know how far the Lord has brought me. I encourage you to write down every answered prayer or situation that caused you to experience God. Doing so will encourage your soul, cause you to grow in gratitude, increase your love for God, and increase your confidence and boldness in the Lord.

Allow this to become a healthy practice in your life. He’s the same God that delivered you before. He’s the same God who answered your prayer and revealed Himself in such a powerful way. If He has done it before, will He forsake you now? The obvious answer is no. Remember what He has done in your life. Also, remember what He has done in the lives of other Christians that you know and the lives of men and women in the Bible.

67. “Remembering God’s faithfulness in the past let’s us embrace the difficulties of the present and the uncertainties of the future.” Whitney Capps

69. “Remembering God’s faithfulness in the past strengthens us for the future.”

70. “I choose to remember what God has done because it frames my perspective as I wait for what He will do.”

71. “Remember how God helped you before.”

72. “ Remember the goodness of God in the frost of adversity.” — Charles H. Spurgeon

73. Psalm 77:11-14 “I will remember your great deeds, Lord; I will recall the wonders you did in the past. 12 I will think about all that you have done; I will meditate on all your mighty acts. 13 Everything you do, O God, is holy. No god is as great as you. 14 You are the God who works miracles; you showed your might among the nations.”

74. Psalm 9:1-4 “I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the wonderful things you have done. 2 I will sing with joy because of you. I will sing praise to you, Almighty God. 3 My enemies turn back when you appear; they fall down and die. 4 You are fair and honest in your judgments, and you have judged in my favor.”

75. “I still remember the days I prayed for the things I have now.”

76. “God’s faithfulness gives us courage in the present and hope for the future.”

Quotes about painful memories

If we’re honest, we all have bad memories that can attack our mind like relentless ticks. Painful memories have the power to destroy and create unhealthy patterns in our mind. The trauma is far worse for some than others. However, there is hope for those who are struggling with those vivid memories.

As believers, we can trust in our loving Savior who restores our brokenness and makes us new and beautiful. We have a Savior who heals and redeems. I encourage you to bring your wounds to Christ and allow Him to heal you and repair your scars. Be open and honest with Him. We doubt God so often. We forget that He cares so deeply about the intimate part of our lives.

Allow God to shower you with His love and comfort. You are never too broken for restoration and liberation in Christ. Your identity is not in your past. You are not that past memory. You are who God says that you are. If you are a believer, I want to remind you that your identity is found in Christ. Continually remind yourself of that. Dwell on those powerful truths.

The traumatic memories of the past are what God uses for His glory today. Your story is not over. God is working in ways that you might not understand at the moment. I encourage you to get alone with Him and be transparent with Him on how you feel and the struggles of painful memories.

Two words that have deeply impacted my life are “God knows.” How beautiful it is to truly grasp the concept that God knows. He also understands. He understands how you feel, He is faithful to help you, and He is with you through it all.

Work on growing in worship and dwelling on the Lord throughout the day. Talk to Him throughout the day even while you are working. Allow God to renew your mind and build the love relationship between you and Him. Also, if you desire a relationship with the Lord, I encourage you to click this link, “ How can I have a personal relationship with God? “

77. “Good times become good memories and bad times become good lesson.”

79. “Memories warm you up from the inside. But they also tear you apart.”

81. Philippians 3:13-14 “Of course, my friends, I really do not[a] think that I have already won it; the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. 14 So I run straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God’s call through Christ Jesus to the life above.”

82. “When we behold the face of God, all memories of pain and suffering will vanish. Our souls shall be totally healed.” — R.C. Sproul

84. “Memories warm you up from the inside. But they also tear you apart.”

85. “Memories are wonderful to make but painful to remember.”

Leaving a legacy quotes

How we live our lives now impacts the legacy we leave behind. As believers, not only do we want to be a blessing to this world now, but we want to be a blessing even after we leave this earth. The life that we live now should be examples of godly living and it should bring encouragement and inspiration to our family and friends.

86. “The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.”

87. “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”

88. “All good men and women must take responsibility to create legacies that will take the next generation to a level we could only imagine.”

89. “Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.”

90. “The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.”

91. “Your story is the greatest legacy that you will leave to your friends. It’s the longest-lasting legacy you will leave to your heirs.”

92. “The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.” —Billy Graham

94. “Legacy. What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.”

Quotes about remembering others

Be honest for a second about yourself. Are you remembering others in your prayers ? We tell people all the time, “I’m going to pray for you.” However, do we actually remember people in our prayers? There is a beautiful thing that happens as we grow in our intimacy and love for Christ .

When our heart aligns with God’s heart we will care about what God cares about. God cares about people. When we grow in our intimacy with Christ we will grow in our love for others.

This love for others will manifest in praying for others and remembering others in our prayer life. Let’s be intentional at growing in this. Let’s grab a prayer journal and write down things to pray about for people in our life.

95. “When we pray for others, God listens to you and blessed them. So when you are safe and happy, remember that someone is praying for you.”

96. “Our prayers for others flow more easily than those for ourselves. This shows we are made to live by charity.” C.S. Lewis

100. “The greatest gift we can give to others is our prayers.”

25+ Best Travel Memories Quotes to Inspire Your Wanderlust

I admit it, I love great travel memories quotes.

A great quote can capture a feeling or idea in a way that’s especially inspiring. It can stoke your wanderlust, and make you think about the world in a different way.

It’s a great privilege to be able to look back on my travels around the world, and reflect on how they’ve changed me, and changed my perspective on the world.

Travel has changed my perspective on the world, and it’s changed the heart of who I am. I want to preserve our travel memories , and be able to relax and reflect on our travels around the world, whether I’m looking at old photos, or going more upscale with custom canvas printing of our travel pictures.

The Best Travel Memories Quotes

Here they are, my favorite travel memories quotes and sayings.

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in an office or mowing your lawn. Climb that damn mountain.” ~ Jack Kerouac

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

“One of the best ways to make yourself happy in the present is to recall happy times from the past. Photos are a great memory-prompt, and because we tend to take photos of happy occasions, they weight our memories to the good.” – Gretchen Rubin

“To be human is to have a collection of memories that tells you who you are and how you got there.” – Rosecrans Baldwin

“The most beautiful things are not associated with money; they are memories and moments. If you don’t celebrate those, they can pass you by.” – Alek Wek

“I collect memories. I look for opportunities to try new things, go to new places, and meet new people all the time.” – Marcel Wanders

“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”  – Miriam Beard

“Remember that happiness is a way of travel – not a destination.” – Roy M. Goodman

“I have learned that if you must leave a place that you have lived in and loved and where all your yesteryears are buried deep, leave it any way except a slow way, leave it the fastest way you can. Never turn back and never believe that an hour you remember is a better hour because it is dead. Passed years seem safe ones, vanquished ones, while the future lives in a cloud, formidable from a distance.” – Beryl Markham, West with the Night

“I want to make memories all over the world.” – Unknown

“Own only what you can always carry with you: know languages, know countries, know people. Let your memory be your travel bag.” – Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

“It is not the destination where you end up but the mishaps and memories you create along the way.” – Penelope Riley

“The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.” – L.P. Hartley, The Go-Between

“We find ourselves after airplane doors close and wheels touch the heavens. We discover the maps to our hearts when we lose the maps to this world. Wander, and find home in the people you meet. Wander, and find home inside yourself.” – Tyler Knott Gregson

“If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts.” – Adam Duritz

“Is there anything, apart from a really good chocolate cream pie and receiving a large unexpected cheque in the post, to beat finding yourself at large in a foreign city on a fair spring evening, loafing along unfamiliar streets in the long shadows of a lazy sunset, pausing to gaze in shop windows or at some church or lovely square or tranquil stretch of quayside, hesitating at street corners to decide whether that cheerful and homy restaurant you will remember fondly for years is likely to lie down this street or that one? I just love it. I could spend my life arriving each evening in a new city.” – Bill Bryson

“Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.” – Benjamin Disraeli

“I want to look at a map and be able to remember how I was transformed by the places I’ve been to, the things I’ve seen and the people I’ve met. I want to come home and realize that I have not come home whole but have left a piece of my heart in each place I have been. This, I think, is what is at the heart of adventure and this is why I plan on making my life one.” – Becca Martin

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” – Karl Lagerfeld

“Repetition doesn’t create memories. New experiences do.” – Brian Chesky

“One of my favorite vacation memories was the Thai foot massage and Internet access salons in Bangkok, followed up by my testing cellphone coverage while wading in Provincetown Harbor on Cape Cod.” – Kara Swisher

Old travel memories quotes

It’s easy to think of travel happening only in our time of airplanes, high speed trains, and

“Take only memories, leave only footprints.” – Chief Seattle

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.” – L.M. Montgomery

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – most commonly attributed to Mark Twain, but this quote likely came from H. Jackson Brown

Mark Twain is probably one of the most quoted authors on the planet. Many clever and inspiring quotes did originate from Twain, but the quote above isn’t one. It’s commonly attributed to Twain, but it likely originated with H. Jackson Brown’s 1990 book, P.S. I Love You.

Family travel memories quotes

“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.” – Og Mandino

“Summer will end soon enough, and childhood as well.” – George R.R. Martin

Love social media? These quotes are perfect if you’re looking for throwback travel memories quotes for Instagram!

If you’re looking for inspiration for your wanderlust, you should find the perfect quotation above!

Excellent inspirational quotes, especially, “Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in an office or mowing your lawn. Climb that damn mountain.” I also like, “No one on their death bed says I wish I worked more.” Not sure who said that one.

Nice quotes, reading through them I mentally had flashbacks to the places I’ve gone.

I love these travel memories quotes! They make me want to pack my bags and head out on a new adventure!

The Occasional Traveller

Why you should take time to make travel memories (and how to do it)

By: Author Jaclynn Seah

Posted on Published: January 12, 2015  - Last updated: October 8, 2019

Categories How I Travel , Occasional Travel , Solo Travel

Back in the day before the idea of travel blogging was a thing for me, I always been an avid sort of journal keeper , a little obsessed with preserving my memories and just remembering things. I had a personal blog (from 2003, aw blogspot~) and various caches of organizers-cum-diaries that recorded both my schedule and my thoughts all the way from 1997.

So when I started travelling on my own, that naturally extended to me keeping physical travel journals, which is something I continue to do, even today. My earliest proper travel journals were back from 2007, my grad trip to Taiwan (I actually have scans of my journals in there if you are interested!), and a semi-solo visit to a friend in France and Spain , but I have random souvenirs, keepsakes and notes on hotel stationery from even earlier which are stored in a separate box.

Travel journals from my trips in recent years. You will notice they are more like travel packets rather than journals because I use the notebook to hold lots of other ephemera like maps, tickets, brochures and other knick-knacks!

It’s kinda fun looking back now and flipping through these old memories – it brings back memories of things that happened that I had half-forgotten, and even some moments that I don’t recall anymore but remember again because I recorded them faithfully in a cute little notebook while in transit somewhere. I’m pretty sure some of my current memories are aided by the fact that I wrote them down. That act of recording helps me sort out the jumbles in my mind and gives coherence to stories that become, which makes for stronger recall and recollection of fun anecdotes :)

Travel Journals Spain 2008 Ducks

This was from a family trip in 2008 to Madrid where I was convinced I saw the biggest ducks, ever! I don’t think I have pix of these nor do I really recall exactly how the ducks look like, but it’s fun to see that even 7 years on, I’m pretty sure I would still be as in awe of huge ducks as I was back then

One of the main reasons I started The Occasional Traveller was as a way to electronically record these memories and sync them up with all the digital photos that I had, and it definitely makes it easier to find info, but there’s still something about the immediacy of scribbling down your thoughts on the go, and being able to stick a train ticket or beer label on to a spare page – it’s your most authentic reaction and it tells you something about yourself and the way you think. Revisiting these memories later on gives you perspective and reflection, and who doesn’t like a good ol’ reminiscence of their awesome past trips!

If you’re thinking about starting your own travel journals and collecting your own memories but have never found the will or way to do it, there really is no better time to start than right now, because… why not? I have a couple of tips that I think will help you start and keep this habit going – the challenging part about journalling (or blogging even) is finding that momentum to keep going, so this might help!

DO IT YOUR WAY

Osaka - Umeda Sky Building Sketch

Well one thing’s for sure, Journalling is always better with a beer at hand!

I can’t emphasize how important this is – these are your travel memories, so you don’t have to emulate anyone else, just find the way that works best for you . Don’t force yourself to keep lengthy diaries if you hate to write, or don’t lug around a DSLR camera if you like travelling light. There is NO ‘one right way’ to do it – I think people sometimes get a bit caught up in trying to doing what other people are doing, which is why they run out of steam so quickly, because it’s not something they enjoy doing themselves so it doesn’t come naturally to them.

I like to write my entire day’s activity and thoughts out chronologically, and sketch interesting things that I see, record photos of a place with my phone and stick physical mementos in my travel journal, something I do at the end of the day or while chilling out in the middle of a trip. It’s easy for me to keep doing this because I honestly enjoy being a little long winded and detailed.

Travel Journals Vietnam 2011 Beer Label

A beer label says a thousand words!

You can use other people’s methods to give you ideas on getting started though. This is a non-exhaustive list of ways you can record a memory – I’d love to hear what you do to record your memories!

  • Travel blogging (of course)
  • Video – Vlogs of your trip
  • Audio – recording ambient sounds of a place or keeping an audio journal
  • Drawing – so much you can do! Detailed sketches, lazy doodles or fancy water colours,
  • Photography – whatever type of camera or photography you like, or doing themed series that cut across your trip (e.g. bringing along a little mascot for every city you visit, or taking picture of a postbox in every town you pass through)
  • Map pinning – whether physical or digital
  • Scrapbooks – keeping boxes or folders of physical ephemera you find on your trip

The important take away is that there are so many ways you can record a trip memory, that you shouldn’t feel like you can only do it in one way. You don’t even have to be great at it – have you seen my sketches? I am definitely not great at it. ( This guy has great sketches though , but he is also an Eisner nominee…)

Travel Journals Barcelona 2008

I enjoy sketching but I’ll be the first to tell you that it’s not something I’m particularly good at. This is me describing various aspects of Gaudi architecture from Barcelona to myself. Trust me when I say this isn’t going to be winning me any art titles anytime soon.

MORE ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER

Don’t feel you like you need to record EVERYTHING. Most people give up journaling halfway because it starts to get too tedious, and it begins to hinder their enjoyment of travel rather than help it. You will never be able to remember everything, and unless you’re a little obsessive about having a full set of memories like I am, you don’t need to remember all the mundane details.

My travel journals usually start off really neat and detailed, but by the middle of the trip, things start to get rather messy and I don’t record as faithfully as I do. I have often left travel journals unfinished just because I get so tired towards the end, from the trip and the journalling. Often I keep an initial outline set of memories in point form so I don’t forget the stuff, and then I spend more time later on recording it in longer form when I’m in the mood later on.

Travel Journals UAE Falcon

That is a very chicken-y looking falcon at the Falcon Hospital in Abu Dhabi. It was a very educational experience and I still remember quite vividly watching the falcons get treated. I remember writing this later in the night and still having the details quite fresh in my head.

I suggest that you start small and just note down the key things that strike you – Think about your feelings at that moment, and record pertinent names or details related to that event. I have blanks in my books or even on my phone notes for factual details that I know I can Google later on, but nothing can replicate your unique sensory memory of that moment later on, so that’s the key part that you’re trying to record down.

Don’t be obsessed about having the right equipment or the right way or the right time – just go out and get started! Like everything in life, it usually gets easier once you hit the ground running, so get out there and do it!

What do you do to preserve your travel memories? Share them here!

Wednesday 3rd of June 2015

Wow! I totally agree about recording your travel memories! I do it too but I dont sketch because I suck at it. Instead I take photos....lots of it lol.

Online Memorials help you to honour the life of your loved one in the most authentic way possible. They provide you with a healthy dose of nostalgia that helps you to rediscover wonderful moments from the past and reconnect with those who are no longer with us.

We have confidence you’ll be amazed at just how special and healing the process of creating an Online Memorial can be.

The Basics of Online Memorials

Your journey with  Online Memorials  begins with a deep understanding of what they are and how they can help you through times of  grieving and loss . Online Memorials have a lot more to offer than what first meets the eye.

What is an Online Memorial?

An Online Memorial is a digitized platform that serves as a secure space to safeguard and share the memories of a loved one who has passed. It allows you to collect all of the special moments, places and milestones that were important to their life and lay them out in a Timeline.

By gathering photos and notating special memories  into one central location, you, your family, and friends can properly remember your loved one long after their passing. The memorial is accessible in the online space forever, which means anyone can contribute and update it at any time. You also gain ease of mind in knowing their legacy will never be lost or forgotten.

Online Memorial Content

Online Memorial Content

The content that is usually included in an Online Memorial consists of photos, stories, a biography, key events, favourite videos and even music. It’s up to you, your family, and friends to decide what content you would like to include. Online Memorials are customizable to help match the unique life of the special person you want to remember.

This digitized process for collection and sharing a loved one’s memories is important for a number of reasons.

Why Create an Online Memorial for a Loved One?

The main reason for creating an Online Memorial for a loved one is, of course, to gather their memories in one easily accessible place to keep forever. In addition to this, your Online Memorial is beneficial for a number of reasons.

Show their life on a larger scale:  Obituaries are limited when it comes to sharing detail on your loved one’s life. Online Memorials allow you to share their life on a larger scale without limitation on what can be included.

Connect with others:  Online Memorials make it easy to notify the community around your loved one by simply sharing a link or sending an email. Connecting with others in honouring your loved one’s life is made easy.

Contributing together:  Invite others to share and contribute to your Online Memorial. This process helps to remember your loved one’s life in even more beautiful detail.

Easy to use and share:  It can feel overwhelming to try and organize the memories of a loved one. Online Memorials makes this process easy so you can focus on what really matters when it comes to honouring their life. They’re also very user friendly which means anyone can navigate the memorial, regardless of age or technological awareness.

Cost Savings:  Creating an obituary can come with a hefty price tag. Online Memorials take the stress around cost out of the equation as they come with great pricing options and can even be free to use.

Share Memories

Your Online Memorial with Memories

Memories has created an experience for making your Online Memorial that is private, safe, and most importantly allows you to focus on the memories that matter most.

A life story goes beyond the series of events that occurred in someone’s life. Their life story is a narrative that reflects their unique personal identity and the value behind the life they lived. Their memorial deserves descriptions and details around their life events in order to shape who they were and what was most important to them.

We believe you should be able to grieve your loss and comfort one another by honouring your loved one’s life in the easiest way possible. Memories is here to help you do just that as you can capture the true essence of your lost one and remember them in the most beautiful and authentic way possible.

My Favorite Travel Memories

I was bitten by the travel bug at a very young age. My first overseas trip was at age 7 (to Hong Kong) and the tally now stands at 88 countries (as at January 2019) across six continents. That equals quite a few terabytes of memory I guess! The breadth and depth of the travel memories I’ve amassed through the years have been amazing and I cherish them more than anything (well, almost!). From sailing around the Whitsunday Islands in Australia to hiking around the lunar landscapes of the Atacama desert, swimming with sharks in Malaysia, meeting the world’s greatest chef, floating in a frozen lake in Finnish Lapland or witnessing a breathtaking sunset at Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Scroll down this timeline to view some of my favourite travel memories and click on any link to read more about the experience(s) – the quotes in the captions are excerpts from the related blog post.

Five-month round-the-world trip

Five-month round-the-world trip

This photo brings back many fond memories. It was taken during the first leg (Amsterdam to Hong Kong) of my five-month round-the-world trip in 2008 as the plane flew past the coast of Estonia. I’ve called this photo “The Moment” because it symbolises the start of a life-changing journey that began in 2008 and which led me onto a new and exciting path as a travel blogger.

Getting over my ‘Jaws’ complex

Getting over my ‘Jaws’ complex

Swimming with sharks at Lang Tengah island, Malaysia. “I was out snorkelling on my own and a single barracuda and some parrot fish kept me company throughout. I got to see the big shark – it swam past, just five meters or so away, and strangely, I just stared and enjoyed the moment.”

The wonders of Angkor Wat

The wonders of Angkor Wat

Visiting the temples of Angkor in Cambodia. “As we reached the top, the heavy rain seized for a moment and we got to enjoy the fantastic views over the Angkor Wat complex. At that moment, I didn’t care that I was completely drenched and that my shoes were flooded up and covered in thick mud, the view of the misty, jungle-covered hillsides, the broad plains below with their mosaic-like rice fields and the majestic towers of Angkor Wat just breaking through the tree-tops was simply breathtaking.”

Whitehaven Beach in Australia’s Whitsunday Islands. “The beach is a wide arc with an inlet on one end, with sand so white, I needed my sunnies to protect my eyes from the glare. The sea was an astounding spectrum of turquoise and blue.”

Bewitched in Bora Bora

Bewitched in Bora Bora

Bora Bora is everything I thought it would be… and more. I’ve seen pictures of it in countless publications, documentaries and travel programmes but it’s not till you’re actually here that you begin to fathom just how magical this place is. I mean, I’ve been to many places around the world that have similar surroundings but Bora Bora just has, let’s call it, the ‘X-factor’.

Mysteries of Easter Island

Mysteries of Easter Island

“It still is very much a mystery why these statues were built [on Easter Island] and how the locals managed to erect such huge statues (the largest are more than 20 meters long) and haul them many miles from the quarry to the ahu. Various theories were introduced during the next few days but I like the one that says that aliens created them during their stay on Earth.”

The spectacular bus ride across the Andes

The spectacular bus ride across the Andes

When everyone was back on board, the bus continued on its journey…..and what a journey it was! Lunar landscapes, multi-coloured rock faces, gigantic volcanoes, dark blue lagoons, lush oases and towering sand dunes more or less sum it up. The 10-hour bus ride from San Pedro de Atacama in Chile, across the Andes, to Salta in northern Argentina brought us past all these features AND MORE! There were times, as I looked out the window, that I thought I was watching some sort of science fiction movie as the bus sped along, as the landscapes were so surreal, so unearthly.

Adventures in the Atacama Desert

Adventures in the Atacama Desert

Valle de la Luna in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. “The colourful valley spread out below us while the Andes formed an impressive backdrop. As the sun slowly dipped below the horizon, the colours of the valley changed from ochre to a bright orangy-red. The shadows of the Salt mountains grew longer and soon enveloped the valley and reached the feet of the Andes. From there, the shadows rose up the flanks of the Andes. It was so magical and so surreal that I had to pinch myself to convince myself that I was actually witnessing this spectacle.”

Patagonia: Home of the Gods

Patagonia: Home of the Gods

Patagonia is indeed a rugged and daunting place. It’s a huge area that’s divided by countless channels, fjords, ice-fields, glaciers and the southern end of the mighty Andes mountains, making large parts of the region quite inaccessible. Then there’s the extreme weather. The wind is relentless and can bring with it rain, hail and snow at any time of the day throughout the year.

Dining at El Celler de Can Roca

Dining at El Celler de Can Roca

Our 15-course lunch kicked off with an excellent cava and caramelised olives (stuffed with anchovies) served hanging in the branches of a bonsai tree. There was no serpent tempting us to take a bite, nor did I feel like Adam (or Eve) but it was a brilliant metaphor. The olives hanging in the tree were an invitation to partake in a meal of ethereal delights.

Cruising Alaska’s Inside Passage

Cruising Alaska’s Inside Passage

One evening after dinner, one of the deck crew came running into the lounge and excitedly told us to look outside. As we opened the windows, I noticed the ship slowing. I looked out and was treated to scenes no one will easily forget. In the distance, we saw several pods of humpback whales lunging: coming up from the deep with their mouths open and gobbling up the herring near the surface. As they breached the surface, they snapped their jaws close and disappeared into the water.

Floating in the Dead Sea

Floating in the Dead Sea

There it was! I stood at the edge of the cliff and marvelled at the scenery. It was one of those unforgettable travel moments. A place I’ve read and heard so much about and finally… I’m here at the Dead Sea ! Stretching from below me to the distant horizon was its blue expanse, famous the world over for the ‘floating in the Dead Sea’ experience, but also for being the lowest point on Earth (the ‘sea’ is 420m or 1,400ft below sea level), its extraordinarily high level of salination (it’s more than 8 times saltier than the average ocean) and for its numerous mentions in the Bible.

Sleeping in the Snow Hotel in Finnish Lapland

Each year in late-November, a thousand truck-loads of snow and massive blocks of ice carved out of a nearby river are used to create a winter wonderland like no other: the Snow Village in Finnish Lapland. My first solo road trip

My first solo road trip

I finally made it onto the highway and in no time, I was whizzing past the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia’s second largest city. Melbourne’s imposing skyline faded below the horizon as I headed further afield. My pangs of fear had quickly changed to excitement. Here I was, in the car on my own, with a lady’s voice as my guide, and my iPhone was belting out my favourite songs! How awesome is that?

In the Mashpi cloud forests of Ecuador

In the Mashpi cloud forests of Ecuador

I fell asleep in the van at a certain point and when I opened my eyes, I found myself in a mysterious, mist-shrouded forest with giant anthuriums, mosses and towering trees. The car soon came to a halt and as the mist cleared, I spotted a futuristic-looking building with large windows, almost completely encapsulated by the forest. This was the Mashpi Lodge! Situated on a ridge 900 meters high and overlooking a broad valley, the lodge was designed as a cocoon of luxury in the clouds.

Someone in the van yelled “STOP” and the driver hit the brakes. We trained our eyes on the patches of tall grass that lined the road, alert for any movement. Binoculars were whipped out of bags and as we zoomed in, we noticed a sleek body with distinctive spots, striding confidently through the grass. Our first wildlife encounter was of a cheetah!

What I saw, as I opened my eyes, surprised me. It wasn’t as though I’d been led blindfolded down this road. I’d seen this scenery before. What surprised me was how vivid everything looked: the bright green meadows that stretched out before me, the towering granite peaks in the distance that glistened in the morning sun and the thin veil of mist that cloaked the foothills of the mountains. The silence remained but I felt very much at ease now, as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

At the height of its wealth in the 18th/19th centuries, Ouro Preto was the capital of Minas Gerais and attracted artists and scholars from around Brazil and Europe. These days, its rich colonial past can still be observed, particularly in its ornate churches. Decorated in gold and featuring sculptures by the famous artist Aleijadinho, these 18th/19th century churches are literally breathtaking. I couldn’t take photos inside the churches but believe me when I say that I have seldom seen such incredible baroque interiors, all draped in gold!

On the frozen canals of Amsterdam

On the frozen canals of Amsterdam

A cold front that originated in Siberia brought howling winds and bone-chilling temperatures to Western Europe in early-March. Nicknamed the ‘Beast from the East’, the cold front resulted in freezing temperatures that lasted about a week. Daily reports in the media kept everyone informed on the state of the ice around the country, and as soon as the authorities gave the green light, ice-skating marathons were organised and people all over the country took to the ice.

Safari at Gondwana Game Reserve

The light was fading quickly but we were determined to find them. Our guide expertly manoeuvered the jeep around a tight bend and stopped. Silence reigned as the dust settled. I surveyed the surrounding bushes before turning my gaze to the mountains, bathed in a soft pink light, in the far distance. We sat in silence when suddenly, we heard the crack of a twig. He came, slowly but surely, into view and we gasped in awe. The lion casually strolled past us, seemingly without a care in the world.

Seeing Mount Everest

Seeing Mount Everest

The plane broke through a layer of clouds and the peaks of the Himalayas, glistening in the morning sun, were immediately visible. I pinched myself as we approached the mountains. It felt so surreal! I reminded myself that I was looking at the view from my plane window of the Himalayas – the highest mountains in the world! It was a dream come true!

A stunning sunset in Kuala Lumpur

A stunning sunset in Kuala Lumpur

It was a very cloudy day so I wasn’t expecting much in terms of the sunset but as the sun retreated below the horizon, the colours changed gradually, and then dramatically. The result was a surreal urban landscape, with a plethora of towers framed by a blazing red sky! The lights from the surrounding buildings, streets and traffic below looked like a sea of shimmering gems. It was perhaps the most incredible view of Kuala Lumpur I’d ever seen!

An indulgent weekend at Lanzerac Wine Estate

I entered the suite (208) and I’m quite sure I gasped (audibly). The bellboy smiled and said this was his favourite room. He proudly showed me around, stopping briefly at the mini-bar (which is included in the room rate and is replenished daily) before leading me to the living area, the massive bedroom and ditto bathroom. He opened the sliding doors which opened out to a gazebo and a private pool with a view of the vineyard and the mountains. I was in awe! My first thought was: I wished my house looked like this!

Editors’ Notes

Here comes the wave! In this gorgeous open-world RPG, explore eroded landscapes, battle otherworldly creatures, and unlock incredible skills.

Pretty good; but

Wuthering Waves has been both good and very generous so far; I'm level 13 and have 3 5*s, (soon four), the exploration is very fun, the battle is smooth and satisfactory, and the story so far has been interesting. Unfortunately, the experience is ruined a lot by a ton of lag. Whether I use my phone or a tablet, it lags so hard, it's rough to even run around; and that's with the absolute lowest level settings possible. It also crashes constantly; a cutscene? Crash. Unlocking a new area on the map? Crash. I can only imagine what co-op would be like in this state. I'd like this game to be available on playstation; not only because it is my main gaming platform, but because I'm sure it will have a much better quality experience than on my phone or tablet. Not entirely sure why you wouldn't release a playstation version with the base release of the game, (I've seen many different sources saying playstation will be implemented at some point,) since I feel that would bring in more players quicker. I've heard this game has been in development for over two years; and yet cannot include other main gaming platforms for other players who can't access the ones available? Not to mention; I've seen quite a few reviews about how horrible the controller support is; the button placement and controls was atrocious. I haven't tried it myself, but I'm hoping it'll get better.

Don’t hate js bc its very similar to genshin. Genshin is similar to botw

“Too many bugs they aren’t fixing them omg!” Yes they are?? Literally since launch on tues they had released over 18 mini updates to fix various bugs. They are working OVERTIME. I think tuesday was a much deserved break day because they didnt release any updates that day, but i can respect that. “Needs wifi to play on!!!” This is one of the complains of the top reviews (seriously?). EVERY GOOD GAME NEEDS WIFI TO PLAY ON YOU DILAPIDATED TRIANGLE. “Doesnt work without wifi!” OF COURSE IT DOESNT HAVE YOU PASSED THE THIRD GRADE? “Music is bland” Music is subjective but there is also a music bug going around where you cant hear the background music after it plays once (outside of jinzhou). This will definitely get fixed very soon because it is one of the main leading factors locking people from playing main quests. They refuse to continue because without the music the experience is gone. Fortunately i was able to find a way to get the music back for a short time, so i was able to experience the main story to the end WITH music. Even if the music is bland, if people keep saying things about it, it will probably get upgraded. Vanguard worked with them on Pgr but they seem to be a bit understaffed right now so they only made a few songs for Wuwa. Personally tho i quite like the music, loving the scifi feel and it definitely adds some emotion to the post apocalyptic theme.
