Travel + Leisure / Brian Kopinski

When traveling, an important function of luggage isn’t just getting your stuff from Point A to Point B, but it’s keeping it safe along the journey, too. And if you’re someone who has invested in your timepieces, you’ll probably want to make sure that these costly accessories are secure, scratch-free, and protected from the elements along the way. There are so many different types of watch travel cases out there — from roll style cases, to flat folding cases, to large-and-in-charge chunky plastic ones that are impervious to the damaging effects of water along the way.

But not all watch cases are created equal; it can be tricky to find one that balances form with function, and meets your specific needs. For example, not every traveler needs to worry about water exposure, and not everyone wants to bring along multiple timepieces. That’s why we’ve combed the market for the best of the best in a range of sizes and styles with options to suit every traveler’s needs.

Best Overall

Shinola travel watch case.

The leather is beautifully broken in, like a piece you’ve had forever.

It should be cleaned and conditioned annually for longevity.

Count on Shinola for beautiful products, especially leather goods, that are made in the U.S. and built to last. This leather watch case has the broken-in patina of a piece that you’ve had forever and taken on many adventures, even when it’s brand new! A matte black zip-around zipper keeps your watches secure inside the case, and opens to reveal a smart technical-suede-lined interior with two pockets to hold your watches, as well as a partition to prevent your watch faces from scratching each other. We also love this folding case for its low profile, which slips easily into your checked luggage or carry-on bag.

The Details: 6.5 x 3.75 x 1.5 inches | Zip closure | 2 watches | Leather

Best Waterproof

Benrus black watch travel case.

This case offers total waterproof protection.

It will take up a little more space in your luggage than softer cases.

People often think about impact resistance and dust accumulation when it comes to watch storage, but what about the elements, and, specifically, water? This small-yet-mighty travel watch case provides a watertight environment for your timepieces. We love the rugged look and feel, and the sturdy outer shell, which is not only waterproof but also shockproof and crushproof. And with a soft foam interior, this case is sure to keep your watches safe and sound no matter what environment you put it in.

The Details: 5 x 3.5 x 2.25 inches | Snap closure | 1 watch | ABS outer shell with foam interior

Best Impact-resistant

Invicta plastic watch box case.

It’s made from super sturdy, protective hardshell plastic.

It’s on the bulkier side, which could be an issue if you’re trying to pack light.

For trips where you need to keep your timepieces extra secure, consider this heavy-duty travel watch case from Invicta. The exterior shell is made from very durable plastic which is pretty much impervious to impacts, scratching, and the elements. It features a sturdy rubber grid handle and a double-latch closure so the case doesn’t open accidentally in transit. Inside, the case is filled with egg-crate-style memory padding that keeps your watches secure and scratch-free. The case holds three watches.

The Details: 5.91 x 5.91 inches | Snap closure | 3 watches | Plastic

Citizen Watch Roll Travel Case

We love the translucent cover so you can see inside without necessarily opening the case.

It only fits one watch.

Some collectors prefer the protection offered by a roll case; these store your watches in the same round shape as if they were on your wrist, which protects the integrity of the watch’s construction and prevents slipping and sliding like some flat cases. We loved this one for its clear top panel so you can easily see inside, and the sturdy zipper which opens and closes easily, but still keeps the case securely closed while in transit.

The Details: 3.5 x 2.75 inches | Zip closure | 1 watch | Ultrasuede interior

Best Folding

Wind up watch shop adpt edc watch fold.

Wind Up Watch Shop

The neoprene expands to accommodate any watch shape or size.

It doesn’t offer the impact resistance of sturdier watch cases.

Sleek, simple, rugged — that’s how we would describe this travel watch case. It unfolds to reveal two neoprene pockets, which expand to adjust to the shape and size of your watches, so you can easily slide them in and out and know that they will be protected. We love how portable, lightweight, and effortless this watch case feels, and how durable its materials are. The soft neoprene also makes this one a great case for sunglasses, or other small items you don’t want to get lost in your luggage. Simply fold it up, zip the paracord closure, and head out for your next adventure since, when you’re traveling with this case, you can rest assured that your valuables are safe.

The Details: 5.75 x 2.5 inches | Zip cord closure | 2 watches | Nylon and neoprene

Best Splurge

Lorenzi milano leather watch case.

Net-A-Porter

It’s made from highest quality Italian nappa leather.

It also comes with a few small tools for on-the-go watch adjustments.

Does anyone do leather goods better than Italy? This luxe Lorenzi Milano leather watch case is about as sumptuous as it gets as it’s handcrafted in Italy from the finest quality nappa leather, and stitched by hand. This case features an integrated foam roll to keep your timepieces secure and scratch-free, and a magnetic closure so it’s easy to open and close. It also comes with a few small tools so you can make minor watch adjustments during your trip, too.

The Details: Magnetic closure | 2 watches | Leather

Best Budget

Watchpod single watch travel case.

It’s small, it’s lightweight, and it’s under fifteen bucks.

It isn’t completely impact-resistant like some of the sturdier cases on this list.

Don’t overthink it — sometimes all you need is a single, small, secure case to prevent a timepiece from getting lost or damaged in your luggage. This one is made with a woven nylon exterior that sufficiently keeps minor bumps and shakes at bay, and is lined with a soft velvet interior to prevent scratching. And, at just under fifteen bucks a pop, it’s one of the best value travel watch cases you’ll find anywhere.

The Details: 4.5 x 2.25 inches | Zip closure | 1 watch | Nylon exterior with velvet interior

Best for Multiple Watches

Mark & graham travel watch roll.

Mark & Graham

It has a thoughtfully designed hidden compartment for cufflinks, collar stays, or small watch tools.

It’s made from polyurethane, not leather, and is not waterproof.

There is so much to love about this sleek Mark & Graham travel watch case. It rolls into a tidy cylinder that fits easily into your luggage yet preserves the shape of your watches’ wristbands yet, pull out the interior removable cushion and — voilà ! — it opens up to reveal a hidden compartment, just large enough to store some cufflinks, collar stays, or small watch tools. The case comfortably holds three watches, making it great for traveling with multiple timepieces without necessarily being overly large or bulky.

The Details: 6.75 x 3 inches | Double snap closure | 3 watches | Polyurethane exterior with microsuede lining

Tips for Buying Watch Travel Cases

Pick the best size for your needs.

Not all luggage is created equally — and buying even smaller accessories such as watch travel cases should be relevant to your particular needs. You’ll want to consider how many watches a case can carry and how much room it will take up in your luggage (which might relate to how protective it is). Don’t go larger than you need to, but be careful not to get something too small to fit your timepieces.

Consider adding security and other special features

Depending on your specific needs, the value of the watches you’re trying to protect, and the budget you’re set aside for a case, there are a range of added features available. You may want to look for a travel case that is lockable, so you can leave your watches with confidence if they’re beyond your reach while you’re in transit. Other features to consider are how discreet the watch case looks; if the worst happens and someone breaks into your luggage, you may not want a case that overtly screams, “Expensive watches in here!” Going for something a little more understated could therefore be its own form of security.

This is probably a bigger answer than you’d expect. Yes, cases keep the elements away from your watch and, in many instances, offer waterproof protection, impact protection, or, at a minimum, scratch resistance from other items in your luggage. But watch cases also offer a degree of security. Some can be locked, or easily tucked away in your luggage, so you can travel with confidence knowing that your watch is staying put as you reach your final destination.

The difference between a watch travel case and a watch roll is exactly what it sounds like — watch rolls store your watch in a rolled-up shape that mimics the shape of a human wrist. For more complicated and expensive watches, it can be better to store your watches in a rolled-up shape, which protects the structural integrity of the wrist band, and prevents the sliding and bunching which can sometimes happen in flat travel cases.

Care depends on the material of the watch travel case itself. Most cases are made from durable materials which can be cleaned with a soft cloth, or in some instances, a barely damp soft cloth. If your watch travel case is made from leather, you’ll also want to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for leather care (such as conditioning periodically) so that it lasts for many adventures to come.

It’s all in the details. Some basic travel cases are little more than a nylon envelope with a zipper whereas others have design details such as magnetic flap closures, hand stitching, Italian leather, or hidden compartments to carry small accessories or watch repair tools. But just because a travel case is more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it will protect your timepieces any better than a less expensive model; read the product descriptions closely to see what kind of features your watch case includes.

DIY: The $20 Watch Storage Solution

If you’ve been collecting watches for any length of time, the storage of your little wrist machines can quickly become an issue, especially if you have limited space. Sure, you can keep them in the boxes they came in…some boxes are very nice indeed. But they can be bulky, and inevitably, none of them are the same size or shape. Which leads to the following scenario: Imagine yourself as mayor of the city of Watchboxolis, featuring a vast skyline of oddly sized watch containers, which you preside over from your luxurious corner office. But the city, due to rapid growth, becomes overdeveloped to the point of unsustainability. Predictably, you are voted out of office by your significant other, fallout from a sordid ‘hoarding scandal’.

Put the boxes in storage, chief. You don’t need that kind of bad press staining your legacy.

DIY watch travel case

There’s a vast array of very nice display boxes, either plain or with glass tops available for sale, from a multitude of vendors, typically in some type of wood or leather-like finish. Those are fine, but there’s only so much room on top of that dresser, and the protection they offer is usually limited to dust control. So if you need an inexpensive solution that offers maximum defense against anything life throws your way, do I have a budget baller option for you, my friend. And as a bonus, they’re perfectly safe for travel. Remember travel?

I’ve always been a fan of Pelican utility cases, due to their insane durability and build quality. Overbuilt is more like it. With their rigid, water-resistant outer shells, heavy-duty hardware, locking lids, and dense foam lining, they could probably protect a carton of eggs from a TSA baggage handler’s worst. They’re trusted by the world’s militaries, high-tech firms, and government agencies to protect valuable and sensitive equipment, and I endorse them without hesitation. Accordingly, they’re pricey…about $100 for the Pelican 1400 model.

Pelican case

But as is the Time Bum way, we have solutions for the less well-heeled. I personally have a Pelican case that I use for audio equipment, but I’ve discovered some imported alternatives that offer similar levels of protection.

The Monoprice online catalog https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=12683

offers a few size options to select from, and your local Harbor Freight Tool Company store currently has at least 3 different cases that would fit the bill https://www.harborfreight.com/3800-weatherproof-protective-case-large-black-63927.html from about $30 to $60. And that’s before applying their everyday coupons.

Husky Case

But I’ll do you one better. Over the holidays, I found an even lower-priced option, piled high on display at my local Home Depot. Normally priced at a rock bottom $19.88, the Husky ”13.5 in. Plastic Tool Box in Black”, was on sale for an absurd $14.99. It seems you really can hit rock bottom and keep going. Here’s the link: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-13-5-in-Plastic-Tool-Box-in-Black-2019-002/309211038?MERCH=REC-_-pip_alternatives-_-205440492-_-309211038-_-N

Husky Case

Anyhoo, this case offers comparable protection to the higher-priced competition and will secure 8 watches. It has durable twin latches, along with two holes for padlocking the lid. It’s sealed against water via a gasket, and has a pressure relief valve, although I fail to imagine a scenario where you might need it.

Husky Case

The padding is comprised of layered ‘pick-and-pluck’ perforated foam, so you can customize the interior to fit your needs. Any sharp knife will do, but I like the control of an X-Acto knife. It also helps to map out your cuts using toothpicks to form a grid.

DIY watch case foam

My number one tip when tackling this project is to mark the entire grid ahead of any cutting and then cut slowly and cleanly to minimize the risk of tearing the foam. There are some good tutorials for cutting Pelican-type foam online, including this great watch-specific one by Blake Malin: https://wornandwound.com/diy-pelican-watch-case/ .

The excess foam that you cut away can be saved for use as watch pillows, or you can buy nicer pillows online. But here’s another bargain baller tip: I cut sections of ordinary foam pool noodles (from the dollar store), using a super-sharp bread knife, and use those as watch cushions. They work great, and come in fun colors!

DIY watch pillows foam

To sum up, due to big-box store economies of scale and some creative DIY thinking, $20 (and some tools you probably already have lying around) will get you a badass portable watch safe. It’s perfect for secure storage anywhere, no need to take up dresser-top real estate, and just the thing for your next watch group meetup…boy, how I’ve missed those! You just need a couple of hours to spare, some patience, and the watches to fill the spaces. And we both know you’ve already got those.

Top 14 Best Watch Travel Cases

There are watch travel cases in all types, shapes, and forms. Most commonly, they have room for one watch only but watch travel cases are available with a number of different slots.

A watch travel case can come in handy both when you are traveling, but also when storing your watches. Watch travel cases are usually small and compact but protect well. Regardless if you are traveling and want to keep your watches safe, or if you need a good place to put your watches, a travel case can be a good complement to your collection.

Some of the factors to consider when buying a watch travel case are the following:

Number of watches

When buying a watch travel case, think about how many watches you want to be able to store. Travel cases are available in a wide array of sizes, from one watch to five or more. A single-watch travel case tends to be the most popular alternative, but if you need to store multiple watches, you will need something bigger.

If you are going to opt for a travel case that can store multiple watches, my advice is to get one where the watches are separated from each other inside. The issue with some travel cases is that the watch slots inside are not separated, which can cause them to scratch and damage each other.

Another factor to consider for your travel case is the material from which it is made of. The cheaper options are usually made in a hard fabric, whereas the more premium travel cases are often made in premium leather. Material is important because of looks, but also for durability. Naturally, a hard case will offer a greater level of protection compared to one that is made of leather or soft fabric.

Watch travel cases come in many different shapes. One of the most common is the single-watch travel case which often has a circular or square shape. But another common shape is the watch roll, which is slightly oval or circular.

The design is another important aspect that you want to consider in your watch travel case. This does not only have to do with looks but also with functionality. For example, if you are traveling and are going to bring multiple watches, it may be a good idea to choose a briefcase that stores and protects the watches in a good way. In the same way, if you’re just going away for the weekend and bringing two watches, a watch travel case may be more convenient. With that said, think about if you want a watch roll, a briefcase, or perhaps a storage box. All of these serve a purpose.

10 Watch Briefcase Black Carbon Fiber

This is less of a watch box and briefcase rather than a travel case, however, if you are going to transport a lot of watches, this may be an appropriate choice.

This watch briefcase has room for 10 watches. It is made in a beautiful carbon fiber pattern in black color.

The construction is padded foam on the inside lid to provide protection, as well as a Zippered briefcase design. For storing 10 watches, it is actually quite compact and convenient.

ModernGen 6 Slot Watch Box Travel

This watch travel case/briefcase is the ultimate way to keep your watches safe during travels. The issue is that it is big and not so practical, but what it does is keep the watches inside well-protected.

The case is 100% waterproof, dustproof, and impact resistant. It is made of molded plastic and sealed with an airtight and watertight gasket. It has 6 large compartments for storing your watches, and each cushion can hold both small and large watches. Whilst it is big, it is relatively easy to carry thanks to its handle.

  • Inner Dimension: 10 x 7.28 x 3.26 inches
  • Outer Dimension: 11.02 x 9.05 x 3.85 inches

Tech Swiss Watch Case Aluminum Briefcase

This watch travel case is more on the heavy and large side, but it does its job of keeping their watches protected well. It is a heavy-duty watch briefcase with a handle, made of aluminum. With its briefcase design, it is both discreet and practical. It has a textured Exterior and a layer of foam in the lid for Additional Support. It can hold up to 18 timepieces, and it has soft removable cushions which can fit both large and small bracelets.

  • Case Dimension: 14.5″L x 12″ W x 4″H Compartment Size: 3.25″ L x 2.25″W x 3.75″H

Decorebay Rich Man Roll Style Travel

The Decorebay travel case roll can hold up to 3 watches. It has a snap closure to keep them in place and has an inner felt lining to prevent scratches.

The watch pillows are removable and can hold a wide array of bracelet sizes (which is not something all cases can do).

Its convenient shape and size make it easy to carry and pack when traveling. A detail we love is the red velvet-lined interior which not only is practical but also looks great. The exterior leather is also nice with its textured finish. Something we do not like about this travel case, however, is that it only consists of one roll, with no protection barriers, which can make the watches hit each other when traveling.

The Best Watch Travel Cases for Traveling With Timepieces

watch travel case featured image

Some people adhere to the idea of a one-watch collection; they just need a single timepiece to get them through any situation. But if you’re the type who likes to have a steady rotation of timepieces —from small to digital — you likely have a place to store them at home, whether that’s a valet tray by the door or a watch box in your closet. But what about when you’re on the go? If you’re going to travel with a few different men’s watches , it’s important to have cases that are protective but not so bulky you have to decide between your watches and your toiletry bag. That’s why we’ve picked out the best travel watch cases for your next trip.

How to Choose a Watch Travel Case

There are quite a few different watch travel cases, and the style you choose will depend on how many watches you pack, what kinds of watches you have and how much protection you need. One popular style is a watch roll, which can actually refer to a couple of different kinds of cases. Some watch rolls are hardshell cases with a watch pillow to keep the shape of the watch. There are also watch rolls that are made from soft, flexible canvas. The latter is convenient and easy to store, but less protective. Because you also have to fold your watches, soft watch rolls may not be ideal for stainless steel watches that don’t lay flat. You can also get zippered boxes and cases in different sizes and shapes.

Whether you just want to carry one extra timepiece or you’re going to tote around the whole collection, these travel watch cases will see you through your journeys. Of course, these also make great gifts for the watch lover in your life. Here are some of the best watch travel case options you can buy online.

The case is wrapped in grain leather and has a single zipper for opening and closing.

Mejuri Watch Box

3. cheopz travel watch case.

BEST VALUE

Take the money you’d otherwise spend on a case and put that toward a new watch with this $16 travel watch case. It has removable foam inserts for storing watches of different sizes, and a hardshell design that’s similar to an earbud case.

Cheopz Watch Case

4. timex canvas and leather roll for four watches.

BEST WATCH ROLL

Timex makes some of the best budget watches, as well as a selection of stylish accessories. This watch roll is made from sturdy canvas with a leather strap to wrap up the roll. This roll can hold four watches, and the compact size makes it perfect for putting in a carry-on bag or backpack.

Timex Watch Roll

5. shinola travel watch case.

BEST LUXURY

This watch case comes from Shinola, a luxury brand based in Detroit that makes classically rugged leather goods and accessories. The case is made from premium leather and it has a single zip around the outside. The inside of the case has slots for two watches, and there are leather buckles to keep the watches in place. The thin design makes it very easy to stash in a bag. It’s expensive, sure, but it’ll be a joy to use every single time you travel.

Shinola Watch Case

6. barton watch roll.

MOST RUGGED

Barton’s watch roll is made from water-resistant waxed cotton, and the leather strap makes it easy to roll and unroll the watch. The roll has slots for up to five watches. The rugged look of this watch roll makes it a great option for anyone with a collection of field watches.

Barton Watch Roll

$39.99 $49.99 20% off, 7. leatherology travel watch box.

CUSTOMIZABLE

This travel case isn’t the most space-saving, nor does it have the most storage. But it is one of the best-looking travel cases on this list. It has a leather outer with a zippered top, and the inside has a watch pillow. That makes it a good option for metal bracelets that may not lay as flat in a watch roll. Best of all, it comes in a range of colors and you can monogram it.

Leatherology Watch Box

8. rapport london leather watch roll.

BEST SPLURGE

Is money no object? This hardshell leather watch roll from Rapport London is made in the U.K. from leather with a croc effect. The inside of the watch is lined with suede, and the watch roll has a belt buckle–style closure for a secure hold.

Rapport Brompton 3-watch roll

9. graf lantz anzen eyeglass sleeve felt.

BEST ALTERNATIVE

One watch storage solution you might not have considered is repurposing an eyewear case. Although different shapes, a watch is a fairly similar length to a pair of glasses. And since eyewear cases are easier to find than watch travel cases, this can be a good alternative. This particular option from Graf Lantz is made from soft merino wool and has a leather snap-button closure. This case is also made in the U.S.

Graf Lantz Eyeglass Sleeve

10. qwatchbands watch pouch & case .

This watch pouch features two slots to accommodate your timepieces as you travel. Crafted of high-quality full grain Napa leather with a soft suede interior, it keeps watches fully protected  from the rigorous movement of travel. This design is available in a wide array of colors for your choosing.

QWatchBands Watch Pouch & Case

11. m mirage luxury travel watch case.

BEST SINGLE WATCH ROLL

This single watch case will keep your timepiece protected during travel. It features an interior pillow around which your watch wraps, which slides in and out from the outside case. The flat base also allows you to display it on your dresser or nightstand. There’s also a space to store items such as cufflinks, tie clips and other small jewelry pieces.

The 8 Best Watch Rolls & Cases for Travel

Best Watch Rolls and Cases 00 Hero

By: Ethan Brehm Published: Jul 11, 2023

The best way to break something you love is by traveling with it. Whether you’re doing something as simple as heading to work or going out on a long vacation – the likelihood of things breaking or getting lost on the way goes way up.

For watch enthusiasts, one of the best ways to protect timepieces from being scratched or broken is by throwing them in a travel watch roll or case. These simple canvas or leather rolls and boxes provide solid organization as well as protection from scratches on the crystal or dings on the case. But more than just satisfying a utilitarian need, these units are often crafted finely enough to be worthy of appreciation in their own right. Whether you’re a budding watch collector who only aspires to have enough watches to justify a traveling case, or a seasoned vet looking for something new to throw in their carry-on – we’re positive our list of the best travel watch rolls will satisfy.

Wolf Roadster Watch Roll

Watch rolls vs. watch cases.

Cases: While watch cases take up more room and tend to be heavier than rolls, they also serve to protect your watches much better. Often made from sturdier materials, these units will be better if you’re afraid of your timepieces getting crushed, and some of them even offer water- and dust-proof properties. Consider going with a case if you travel with more expensive or fragile watches.

Rolls: Watch rolls won’t be optimal for more rugged travel adventures, but they do offer a compact alternative to cases, able to accommodate several pieces without taking up nearly as much space. Likewise, they’re often more stylish and classy, made with attractive materials.

Hybrids: There are also roll-type cases that are meant to be compact, usually cylindrical, and don’t require the watches to lie flat. However, these can also be a bit pricier.

What to Look For

Material: If you’re storing your roll or case inside of a backpack or bag, you’ll likely want to look for both interior and exterior materials that will hold up to repeated drops. Hard-shelled cases are optimal if you’re worried about another bag crushing yours. As for watch rolls, which have the potential of being more stylish and lightweight than their counterparts, you’re options will likely be either leather or canvas. Make sure you either sandwich these between piles of clothing or keep them on your person where you can make sure it doesn’t get crushed. As for interior materials, they will almost always be something soft like suede or satin.

Capacity: Most people only wear a couple of different timepieces per trip. However, you may want to have some options, especially if you’re not sure what type of outings you’ll embark upon in your new destination. If you’re planning on wearing a watch at all times, remember that you can add 1 to the roll or case’s capacity.

Watch Size: If you’re a fan of wider or thicker watches, make sure the roll or case you’re purchasing can accommodate those girthy timepieces. Certain units can handle just about any size watch, but others cap out much lower.

WATCHPOD Travel Watch Case

  • Crush-proof
  • Incredibly durable exterior
  • Holds wide range of watch sizes
  • Would be nice if they made a smaller size too

Best Budget Case: Just because you’re a wristwatch enthusiast doesn’t mean the watches in your actual collection are worth thousands of dollars. If you’re more Casio than Cartier, you should opt for the WATCHPOD Travel Case, a budget-friendly zippered pouch that will work perfectly when stowing your alternate timepiece in your carry-on. Not particular with its form, the case holds any watch up to 50mm, including smartwatches, inside of its crush-proof ballistic 1,680D nylon exterior. If you’re wanting to test out the idea of a travel watch case, this one’s for you.

Material: Ballistic 1,680D nylon Capacity: 1 watch Dimensions: 5″ x 5″ x 2″

Convoy Watch Roll

  • Looks really classy
  • Has a bonus pocket for extra straps and tools
  • Suede is waterproof

Best Budget Roll: Talk about class. Convoy’s Tan Watch Roll is designed to hold four timepieces at once inside its attractive Italian suede fabric. Measuring in at 12” by 10” unrolled, this roll provides a soft, protective barrier for each watch individually , with a much larger pocket spanning behind all of them for keeping extra straps and/or tools. Wrapped up and fastened with a braided cord tether and vegetable-tanned Buttero leather toggle, the pouch is also designed to patina over time as it gets handled more and exposed to the sun.

Material: Italian suede fabric Capacity: 4 watches + extra straps/tools Dimensions: 12″ x 10″ (unrolled)

Crown and Buckle OD Canvas Watch Roll

  • Holds a lot of watches
  • Beautiful color
  • Very rugged and lightweight
  • We wish there were more color options

Best for Longer Trips: If you’re the type of person who never likes wearing the same watch twice in one week, then Crown & Buckle has the perfect option for you, and without weighing you down in the process. In terms of watch rolls, this OD Canvas option is about as rugged as you’ll find, and lightweight considering it holds 6 timepieces at once. Known for its leather rolls, Crown & Buckle has crafted this unit out of OD green-colored nylon that’s been lined with a tan microsuede on the interior and fastened with a classic hook-and-loop closure. Even the brand will admit that there’s nothing extraordinarily groundbreaking about this watch roll, but at around $100, you can’t beat it.

Material: Nylon canvas Capacity: 6 watches Dimensions: 15.25″ x 5.75″ (unrolled)

Mark and Graham Travel Leather Watch Holder

  • Looks really nice
  • Scratch-resistant velour lining
  • Displays nicely as well
  • Several color and size options as well

Best for Home-and-Away: The last thing you want to do after purchasing your brand-new watch case for home is buy an entirely new case for travel. That’s where Mark and Graham’s Travel Watch Holder comes in. Also available for 2 or 8 watches, although they don’t display as well, this beautiful 4-watch box will look great on your credenza with its genuine leather exterior but will also keep your timepieces in great shape in your suitcase, with scratch-resistant velour lining and leather dividers. There are also several color options available, each with contrasting stitching around the box’s edges.

Material: Genuine leather Capacity: 4 watches Dimensions: 7.75″ x 6″ x 3.5″

NANUK 910 10 Watch Case

  • Virtually indestructible
  • Waterproof and dust-proof
  • Backed by lifetime warranty
  • TSA-approved locks
  • Most people don’t need to travel with 10+ watches
  • Some slots are a bit narrow for wider watches

Most Rugged: You won’t typically be traveling with 10 timepieces, but the NANUK 910 case is so resilient that you could actually use it as a protective housing at home as well. With an IP67 rating against dust and water, making it virtually indestructible (and backed with a lifetime warranty), the 910 is constructed using the brand’s proprietary mil-spec NK-7 resin and closed with its PowerClaw latching system. The interior foam is a Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE), which also keeps your watches padded inside. What’s more, the case’s locks consist of two metal eyelets that are TSA-approved so you can securely bring your watches on any flight.

Material: Mil-spec resin Capacity: 10 watches Dimensions: 14.3″ x 11.1″ x 4.7″

Hexagon Watch Tube

  • Combines compactness of a roll with durability of a case
  • Available in four colorways
  • Good for displaying too
  • Pillows can be removed one at a time
  • Roll-proof shape

Best Overall Case: The benefits of a watch case can often outweigh its cons, but with the Hexagon Watch Tube, you can have your cake and eat it too. Pairing the compactness of a watch roll with the durability of a case, it fits up to three timepieces inside of its attractive nylon housing — available in one of four colorways — that snaps closed. On the inside, the watches don’t rest flat, like they’re required to be able to do in order to fit inside of a roll. Rather, you place them around microsuede pillows that can be removed one at a time. If that’s not enough, the hexagonal shape makes it optimal for resting on your countertop because it won’t roll off.

Material: Nylon Capacity: 3 watches Dimensions: 8.5″ x 3.25″ x 3.5″

Shinola Travel Watch Case

  • Super compact
  • High-quality leather exterior
  • Zippered closure really reliable
  • Only fits flat-lay watches under 47mm
  • Pricey for what you get

Best High-End Pouch: For the past decade, Shinola has imbued each and every one of its timepieces with the spirit of American heritage. Resurrecting the name of a fallen shoe polish brand, the Detroit-based firm is now one of the premier watchmakers on U.S. soil . Its Travel Watch Case follows suit, encasing two timepieces inside the zippered pouch, which is made from Vachetta leather on the outside and lined with soft suede on the inside. The brand, of course, recommends its own watches to go inside, but you can fit just about any flat-laying pieces up to 47mm in diameter.

Material: Vachetta leather Capacity: 2 watches Dimensions: 6.5″ x 3.75″ x 1.5″

Wolf Roadster Watch Roll

  • Beautiful luxury car-inspired design
  • Has secret compartment for smaller jewelry
  • Keeps watches really well protected

Best Upgrade Case: When it comes to watch winders and other forms of watch storage, Wolf is the de facto king of the space, but for good reason. When you focus so obsessively on one goal, you’re going to beat out the competition almost every time. Housing three watches at a time, the Roadster Watch Roll is just one of many from the brand but is the best bet in terms of style and function. Paying homage to British luxury cars, the roll-case hybrid sports a pebble vegan leather exterior and diamond satin lining on the inside. Each timepiece is paired with one of the brand’s patented Watch Guards. And if you enjoy traveling with more than just watches, the secret, patent-pending jewelry capsule can fit rings, cufflinks, and other smaller objects.

Material: Pebble vegan leather Capacity: 3 watches + rings and small jewelry Dimensions: 8″ x 3.25″ x 3.25″

From cases to faces, straps to dials to hands, the permutations are endless when it comes ot making ... [+] your own custom watch.

One of the most fun and memorable hands-on experiences I have had in three decades of covering travel was making my own watch in a workshop in Geneva years ago. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that appeals greatly to watch fans, because you learn so much about how fine watches (by which I mean mechanical watches) work. But even if you are not passionate, it’s hard to not to marvel at the science and engineering inside a watch and enjoy a custom timepiece you put together yourself for the rest of your life. I don’t wear my watch all the time, but when I do, I almost always get questions and compliments.

The company that offers this unique experience is called Initium , and it sprang from a business student’s academic proposal into reality years ago. Initium has since expanded geographically and with other offerings. Workshops now include custom jewelry making, which is nice if you have a couple where one is into watches and one is not. These start with a basic silver ring class where you can solder, hammer, and shape you way to a unique ring, or add semi-precious stones (4 hours, $550-$750). There’s also a couple’s course where you make two rings. Year ago, they added another location outside Geneva and one in Zurich.

The newest option is a workshop to create your own hghly complicated tourbillon watch. This is just ... [+] one of endless styles

Most recently they added a deluxe full-day workshop to build a Swiss watch (all the movements are 100% Swiss made) with a tourbillon movement . In mechanical watch parlance, each additional feature beyond simply telling the time (date, day, stopwatch, etc.) is known as a complication, and the more complications, the more complex (and usually expensive) the watch. But some complications are more coveted and prestigious than others, and more literally complicated, with the tourbillon near the top of this list. Created by legendary watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet more than two centuries ago, this keeps the entire internal movement of the watch rotating within its case, which offsets the effects of gravity on mechanical movements and makes the watch more accurate (especially in the 1800s!). This class is one of the full-day options, which include a break for a gourmet lunch with the watchmaker instructor ($20,750). The “normal” full day mechanical watch program without tourbillon is much more accessible at $3,350 (including the watch to keep).

Students building watches at one of the Initium workshops, limited to four guests per class.

Microsoft issues new warning for 70 of all windows users, samsung issues critical update for millions of galaxy users.

I won’t repeat myself and go over all the details of the watchmaking classes, because you can just read the last piece I wrote about the experience here at Forbes .

Now the big news is the first international expansion with a workshop outside of Switzerland, in one of the most popular foreign destinations for American travelers, Paris. I can’t think of many better vacation combos than taking a trip to the City of Lights and returning with a new watch (or ring) you just made.

Choosing the parts and options for your own personal timepiece may be the hardest part of your ... [+] watchmaking day

The new location is scheduling classes starting in July, peak European travel season, and is very well located in the 8 th Arrondissement (78 rue de Miromesnil), home to the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, Place de la Concorde, many of the city’s chicest retail stores, several famed Michelin-starred eateries, and some of the best luxury hotels, including personal favorites the Four Seasons George Cinq and semi-hidden gem Prince des Galles ( read my story about this great hotel here ).

The Best Watch Cases for Travel and Storage

October 16, 2020 by Matthew Catellier Leave a Comment

Best Watch Cases for Travel and Storage

Usually we review products from other brands, but today on the Watch Review Blog we’re going to take a look at a few of our own products and explain why we think we’ve created the best ever watch travel and storage cases on the market under our very own WATCHPOD® brand, and available for purchase via our newly integrated shop .

Sometimes if you want something done right you need to do it yourself, and that is the case with our WATCHPOD travel solutions. As a team of watch enthusiast here at the WRB we weren’t able to find the perfect watch travel case that provides adequate protection while also remaining portable with a minimalist style that doesn’t attract too much attention.

Double WATCHPOD watch travel case for two watches

There are plenty of great looking cases on the market but many are lacking in one aspect or another. For example, Hodinkee’s travel case offerings come in luxurious materials but are also priced with absurd markups. Spending $600 on a leather travel case sounds OK if you’re going to be protecting a $30,000 watch like a Rolex Daytona, but what if you plan to house more affordable watches in the $1,000 range? Their cases are also extremely recognizable as luxury watch cases, and pulling these out of your suitcase when abroad in a foreign country may not be the wisest of ideas. The classic watch roll, pouch, and box style has also been copied time and time again and frankly these designs do not provide maximum protection for your watches.

Watch travel storage case for 1 watch

We’ve come up with a solution to these issues with our very own line of unique travel cases. Our cases are designed 100% in-house by us, and we took into consideration the extreme safety of your watches as well as practicality for travel and storage. Our WATCHPOD® cases are the first ever POD shaped cases on the market, which is a big change when compared to the older style roll, pouch and box shape. We started with a single watch case , and we now also have a double and triple POD case . We launched our brand back in 2015 around the same time as the founding of the Watch Review Blog. There are a few brands copying our designs now which proves the superiority in function and strong demand for our unique accessories.

WATCHPOD Design Philosophy

Watch travel case in the hand

Our single WATCHPOD case is designed with a simple round donut like shape, this allows the case to remain compact and portable, but also allows storage compatibility with both watches on bracelets and straps. The shape of the case also allows for quick placement and removal of your watch, as your watch is not fastened to a cushion but rather sandwiched in-between two pieces of foam. This simple design makes for easy placement if you just wanted to use the case as a night table stand at home or in your hotel.

Photo of Watchpod logo

The most unique part of our cases is the central concave which acts as a barrier between your bracelet/strap and the caseback of your watch. The two concaves on both the top and bottom of the case act as a locking mechanism when the case is closed and zipped up, providing a super snug fit for your watch and eliminating any movement when on the go.

The case is constructed with a hard shell design which is crush proof, so no worries if you need to stuff it into a full backpack. The hard shell design will also provide maximum protection in-case of an accidental drop, while we certainly don’t recommend testing this, you won’t find a travel case that will perform better in this regard.

Photo of case and display stand for travel and storage

The exterior of our single WATCHPOD case is constructed with heavy duty 1680 denier nylon that will not mark or blemish and will also act as semi-water resistant. The zipper is high quality and smooth working, and we always recommend you keep the case zipped closed when travelling or storing your watch. Finally all our POD style travel cases are fitted with our logo in the central concave. The overall design is minimalist and if someone sees you traveling with this case they probably won’t know it’s for a watch, decreasing your chances of becoming a target for theft.

This exact design we’ve created is also available in a double and triple option if you plan on travelling with more than one watch. The only difference is that our double and triple cases are fitted with a premium lycra exterior rather than 1680 Denier Nylon.

The Enthusiasts Best Option

While our cases do not sell for pretentious prices they may actually be your safest option for housing both affordable and ultra haute horology watches. We’ve kept the pricing relatively affordable due to the simple aesthetic and choice in materials, while at the same time keeping functionality and safety of your watches the number one priority.

We’ve also created some other products geared towards the hardcore watch enthusiast, such as our new single watch display stand , and our strap organizing case .

We also have plans to launch a new line called WATCHPOD® Premium that will feature the same classic and original shapes but constructed with high quality leathers and suedes, we’ll keep you updated on this!

The Best Cases, Rolls and Pouches for Traveling With Your Watches

Keep your beloved timepieces safe and orderly.

Putting together the perfectly packed and organized travel bag is immensely satisfying, and if you’re traveling with your watch collection in tow, be sure to extend that satisfaction to your timepieces. A good case, roll or pouch should keep your watches safe and organized and be compact enough to fit in with the rest of your on-the-road gear – here are our favorites, ready for your next adventure.

Products in the Guide

Watchpod travel case, dsptch dopp kit, worn & wound adpt edc watch pouch, timex leather folio case, convoy watch roll, b&r canvas watch roll, crown & buckle navy canvas watch roll, wolf british racing green triple role, moore & giles accessories case, hodinkee leather travel tube in black, shinola multi watch case, everest watch portfolio, watch rolls vs cases.

What’s the difference between the options you have for carrying watches? It’s pretty straightforward. Watch rolls are relatively compact and they, well, roll right up to secure your watches from most risks they might face when traveling. What they don’t do is provide a hard outer shell that would protect a watch from pressure if it were, say, stored with other bags on top of it or which might shift around. Or if someone sat on your bag with your watch roll inside. Pouches offer similar considerations as rolls.

That said, watch rolls and pouches are usually more than sufficient, especially if you pack them carefully. Cases, on the other hand, do offer stiff material to protect watches from any such pressure. This is probably what you want if you’re carrying around delicate, high-value watches — though hard cases do tend to take up more room in your luggage that could be used for hotel soap.

What to Look for in Your Watch Travel Solutions

In addition to the above considerations, there are a few things you’ll want to look for in any solution for helping you travel with your watches. You’ll obviously take note of how many watches you can carry at once, but if you’ve got big watches, also pay attention to whether or not they’ll fit. Thick watches might not fit into pouches (including those in watch rolls) and they might make cases hard to close. Wide watches might cause similar issues. If you can’t tell from the specs or info offered by the seller, it’s advisable to ask.

Materials are another factor. These can affect everything from durability to style and even weight — the latter of which is always relevant to travelers. At the lower end of the spectrum, you really just need something utilitarian and hopefully durable. When you’re paying more money, though, you’re going to want to know that you’re getting nice materials and workmanship — depending on your budget you might want to look for real leather with nicer treatments, as opposed to the “PU” (for polyurethane, also known as “pleather”) often found on more affordable options.

travel watch accessories gear patrol watchpod travel case

  • $12.98 at Amazon $20.00 (35% off)
  • Materials : Balistic nylon
  • Capacity : 1 watch
  • Closure : Zipper
  • Measurements : 2” x 5” x 5”

So you just want a simple and cheap way to carry around an extra watch while traveling? If you don’t want anything fancy, you can’t go wrong with one of these lil’ guys. The hardshell case features 1680 Denier Ballistic Nylon and a padded interior, and the conical shape provides a base for your watch to wrap around while the case is closed, keeping it held in place.

travel watch accessories gear patrol dsptch dopp kit

  • $62.00 at dsptch.com
  • Materials : Balistic nylon or twill
  • Capacity : Unspecified
  • Closure : Zippers
  • Measurements : 9” x 4” x 4”

Okay, yes, this is a dopp kit , and its primary purpose is for typical dopp kit things — which are not watches. Except it has an ingenious ace up its sleeve: a drop-out compartment with a built-in valet tray. So this ingenious little compartment fulfills two needs at once, storing your watch both for transport and for when you get to your destination. In fact, we love it so much we gave it a GP100 award way back in 2014.

Worn & Wound ADPT EDC Watch Fold

Worn & Wound ADPT EDC Watch Pouch

  • $45.00 at windupwatchshop.com $195.00 (77% off)
  • Materials : Neoprene, nylon
  • Closure : Paracord
  • Measurements : 5.75” x 2.5”

Worn & Wound’s ADPT EDC Watch Fold fold is simple, functional and looks cool as hell, thanks to some bright color accents. The interior of the fold is made up of two soft neoprene pouches accommodating two watches, and the exterior is made from handsome and durable 1000D nylon. Meanwhile, a length of 550 paracord keeps the fold closed together.

Timex Leather Folio Case

  • $69.00 at Timex
  • Materials : Smooth Gange Leather, “soft-touch fabric,” nylon
  • Capacity : 2 watches
  • Measurements : 6.5” x 5.125” x 1.125”

Sometimes, watch brands are some of the best sources for finding watch carrying solutions. Makes sense, right? Not that many other companies are going to be that tuned in to the needs of watch wearers. An excellent case in point: Timex with this Folio Case that neatly holds two watches and a passport.

watch roll roundup

  • $120.00 at convoyco.com
  • Materials : Italian full-grain Nappa leather
  • Capacity : 4 watches
  • Closure : Cord and toggle
  • Measurements : 30.8cm x 25cm

Convoy Co’s watch roll represents one of the better values on this list – it fits four watches, while an additional pocket can carry extra straps, spring bars and a strap-changing tool. Better yet, it’s made from Italian leather that will patina nicely with age.

B&R Canvas Watch Roll Courtesy B&R Canvas Watch Roll

  • $99.99 at bandrbands.com $120.00 (17% off)
  • Materials : Washed canvas, Italian suede/leather
  • Closure : Leather cord
  • Measurements : 11.5” x 11.5”

B&R bands are primarily on our radar for their quality watch straps, but we took notice of their canvas watch roll . Holding four watches (with another pocket for a tool or the like) it’s got a rugged look but with the kind of premium details appropriate for your precious watches. Canvas provides a durable exterior but soft suede lines the inside and it’s all secured with an Italian leather strap.

Crown & Buckle Navy Canvas Watch Roll

Crown & Buckle Navy Canvas Watch Roll

  • $79.20 at crownandbuckle.com $99.00 (20% off)
  • Materials : Canvas, microsuede
  • Capacity : 6 watches
  • Closure : Velcro
  • Measurements : 15.25” x 5.75”

Another rugged design that can fit up to six watches, this roll features a canvas exterior that’ll hold up to abuse and look better with age. Meanwhile, a soft microsuede interior won’t be rough on your watches. The closure is canvas band that’s secured with Velcro-style hook and loop. It’s available in four color variants.

wolf british racing green triple role

  • $279.00 at Nordstrom
  • Materials : Pebble-grain leather, suede
  • Capacity : 3 watches
  • Closure : Snap
  • Measurements : 8” x 3.25” x 3.25”

While a hard-sided watch roll doesn’t accommodate as many watches and accessories as a soft roll-up, it offers just a bit of added protection. Wolf is well known as a maker of solid watch accessories for the money, and for under $250, you get a handsome full-grain leather exterior and a soft suede interior that will keep three of your timepieces safe and sound. In even includes a cheeky secret compartment integrated into the roll.

Moore & Giles Accessories Case

travel watch accessories gear patrol moore and giles accessories case

  • $255.00 at mooreandgiles.com
  • Materials : Vegetable-tanned leather, shearling, brass
  • Closure : Zipper, snap (interior)
  • Measurements : 8” x 4.5” x 1”

If you really want to make sure you’re watches are cradled in the plushest way, how about a case made with a shearling lining? This case from American leather goods purveyor Moore & Giles has that, along with an exterior made of leather from Virginia. While the additional interior pocket is meant for small items like earrings and cufflinks, we see no reason why you can’t pack a couple of extra NATO straps in there.

Hodinkee Leather Travel Tube

Hodinkee Leather Travel Tube in Black

  • $255.00 at Hodinkee $79,000.00 (100% off)
  • Materials : Leather, suede
  • Capacity : 3-4 watches
  • Closure : Buckle
  • Measurements : 8.5” x 3”

While Hodinkee makes plenty of fine watch-carrying solutions, their handmade leather roll is a truly upscale option with many of the features you’d expect from a good roll: a refined leather exterior, an interior lined with soft suede and space for a few watches.

Shinola Multi Watch Case

  • $295.00 at Shinola
  • Materials : Vachetta leather
  • Measurements : 4” x 8.6” x 3.5”

Two things that come to mind when you think of Shinola (aside from shoeshine and old-timey expressions) are likely watches and leather products. The modern brand was built on the former but in the latter area they do make some fine items, indeed. A leather watch case from the brand ain’t cheap, but it’s also going to be of high quality, and this one is made from vachetta leather and holds three larger watches or four smaller ones.

Everest Watch Portfolio Courtesy Everest Watch Portfolio

  • $395.00 at everestbands.com
  • Materials : Calf leather, microfiber
  • Measurements : Undisclosed

A unique concept from Everest — which makes some damn-fine rubber straps for Rolexes — this “watch portfolio” features an exterior made from naturally-tanned calf leather, a soft interior that has three removable watch pouches. As a bonus, it accommodates straps and tools as well and even features a zippered pocket on the outside fold for extra storage.

How Do You Use A Watch Travel Case

Step 3) Place the watch travel case in your suitcase in between clothes so it does not move around. If traveling in a backpack, make sure it is on top of heavier items to prevent the watch case from getting crushed.

THE HOME OF WATCH CULTURE

The DIY Series: How to make your own watch (Pt 1)

The DIY Series: How to make your own watch (Pt 1)

Watch enthusiasts are absolutely spoiled for choice at the moment, with microbrands and big brand budget options just getting better all the time. There’s never been a more competitive time in the watch world, with pretty much every kind of watch you can imagine currently being made. That said, if you’ve got a hankering so specific that nobody else can fill it, sometimes you have to just make it yourself. Later in this series we’ll go over how you can modify your watch and even collaborate with manufacturers to build the watch of your dreams, but today we’re going to help you assemble one from parts.

Step 1: Make a mood board

make your own watch travel case

The eagerness to start buying parts and browse vendors is a powerful force, but patience is definitely worth having in the concept stages of your first DIY watch. Designers and makers from all industries will testify to the importance of a mood board, which is simply a collection of images which inspire you. It may be watches that you already love, a photo of scenery, or anything that captures the emotion you want to feel whenever you check the time. This will help focus your strategy when it comes to buying parts, and you may even discover some things that you weren’t aware you wanted. If you have any skill in Photoshop, you can also try mocking up different components or colours to see what works.

Step 2: Buy some tools

make your own watch travel case

If you’re already DIY handy then you’ve probably got a strap tool and some miniature screwdrivers lying around, but assembling watch parts does require a fair amount of specialty equipment that you will struggle without. Some of these will include grips or a case knife to open and tighten a caseback, a movement or case holder, tweezers, gasket grease, and many more. There are some kits available for less than $20 which will include almost everything you need and will do the job fine, however they will not be very durable in the long term if you want to make more watches or attempt your own servicing. If you have plenty of money to invest in this project, you can also buy Swiss tools from reputed companies such as Bergeon.

Step 3: Choose your movement

make your own watch travel case

In order to make sure that everything you buy will be compatible, your choice of movement is the basis for all of your future decisions. Cases, dials, hands, and other parts are all designed to work specifically with certain movements and often won’t fit other ones unless they’re exact clones. If you’re looking to be budget-conscious, something like the Seiko NH35 is an easy choice. Not only is it a well-performing movement that’s easy to adjust, but it’s probably had more aftermarket parts made to fit it than any other calibre. If you want something a little higher end, an ETA 2824 or 7750 are also popular choices, and it opens up the option of buying vintage non-running Swiss watches for their cases and dials.

Step 4: Go shopping!

make your own watch travel case

Now that you’ve got everything you need, you can finally have some fun. eBay and Aliexpress are fantastic websites for browsing watch build components, and all you need to do is search for whatever part you want followed by the movement you’ve chosen. The most immediate results will likely be homages of popular styles from Rolex and Omega, but if you dig a little deeper you’ll soon find other alternatives. Remember to consider things like the location of date windows on dials, because you may need to buy a different date wheel if it’s at 6 o’clock for example. Other things to note are the length of the hands if you’d like them to hit the dial markers, and the water resistance rating of the case.

Step 5: Preparation

make your own watch travel case

Before you start throwing things together, ensure you have a clean and tidy workspace with good lighting. When you’re working with parts that are this small, accidentally brushing a screw off your desk can be devastating, so lay your purchases out somewhere they won’t get flung into oblivion. If you have any further customisation you’d like to do, such as staining the luminous sections with coffee to age it, or painting something unique on the dial, this would be the time to do it, ensuring that everything is completely dry before you seal it in a waterproof case. You should also take some time to watch at least a few YouTube videos of people assembling watches, ideally with the same movement, so that you can get a good understanding of how everything fits together and in what order. If you purchased a timegrapher such as the Weishi 1000, it’s a good idea to check the movement’s accuracy and adjust the balance before putting it in the watch build as well as after.

Step 6: Assembly

make your own watch travel case

The time has come for the final step, and all that remains between you and your dream watch build is a few friction fits and screws. If you’ve done your homework with the YouTube videos, you’ll know that this part of the build is really very simple in theory, and only becomes tricky due to the size of the parts. Using gloves isn’t necessary but it is a good idea, and make sure that they’re powder-free. Check your progress every step of the way to avoid having to undo your progress, for example making sure that the hands can pass over each other without touching and that the crown sits flush with the case after you’ve measured and cut the stem. Once everything is assembled, congratulations! Clean it gently with a microfibre cloth and strap it to your wrist with whatever your favourite strap or bracelet may be. If you discover down the line that you may have preferred a no-date dial, or maybe the colour of the hands is slightly off, at least you also now know how to change them.

E ach year, it always feels like there's a never ending list of possibilities for how you can spend your summer in North Jersey. And, that's because the list truly is never ending.

Here are eight activities in North Jersey to add to your summer bucket list:

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Cut your own sunflowers at a local field

There's nothing like seeing the bright yellow petals of sunflower in full bloom during the summer months. Luckily, there are several sunflower fields in North Jersey that you can explore this summer. And, you might be able to cut your own sunflowers to take home.

At the annual New Jersey Sunflower Festival at Stony Hill Farms, there are 2.5 acres and eight varieties of sunflowers for you to walk through. Plus, there is a second field on the farm where guests can cut their own sunflowers. Other activities at the festival include a wagon ride to the sunflower fields, live music, vendors and homemade ice cream. While this year's dates have not yet been announced, the Sunflower Festival is typically open on weekends throughout August. Hours: TBD. Go: 15 North Road, Chester; 908-879-2908, stonyhillfarms.com .

Spanning 400 acres of land in Morris County, Ort Farms in Long Valley has a sunflower trail for visitors to explore from mid-July to the end of August. Here, you can cut your own sunflowers and create your own bouquet, as well as purchase fresh produce and baked goods. Hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Go: 25 Bartley Road, Long Valley; 908-876-3351, ortfarms.com .

And, if you're not necessarily looking to cut your own sunflowers, but still want to explore a beautiful field that's full of them, stop by the Sussex County Sunflower Maze. With this being its 14th season, the Sussex County Sunflower Maze features acres of bright sunflowers and activities like scavenger hunts, a build-your-own scarecrow contest and a self-guided bug safari tour. While the exact opening dates for 2024 haven't been announced yet, the maze is typically open from about mid-August through September, or until the sunflower bloom ends. Hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Go: 101 County Road 645, Sandyston; 833-786-6293, sussexcountysunflowermaze.com .

Score a hole-in-one in mini golf

While mini golf might not feel quite as fun as when you're playing it by the beach, there are several elaborate mini golf courses in North Jersey that make up for it.

At Blacklight Mini Golf in the American Dream Mall, you can play your way through alien territories, uncharted planets and spaceships under the vibrant glow of neon colors and black lights. During a round of 18 holes, you'll be met with 3D sculptures, music and glowing murals to make the game unforgettable. Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. Go: 1 American Dream Way, East Rutherford; 833-263-7326, americandream.com/venue/blacklight-mini-golf .

In Paramus, putt among a world of fluorescent monsters and spooky obstacles in the glow-in-the-dark Monster Mini Golf course. The entertainment center also has arcade games and bowling to keep the family occupied well after the 18 holes comes to an end. Hours: 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 2 to 10 p.m. Friday; noon to 10 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Go: 49 E Midland Ave., Paramus; 201-261-0032, monsterminigolf.com/locations/use/nj/paramus .

Devour decadent ice cream on a hot summer night

If there's one thing that we can always find in North Jersey, it's some delicious ice cream spots. I mean, our food writer Kara VanDooijeweert even wrote her own ode to North Jersey ice cream , so that has to say something.

The next time you're looking for a cold treat on a hot summer night, stop by some of her favorite spots — like Cliff's in Ledgewood, Applegate Farm in Upper Montclair, Denville Dairy in Denville or Lake Hiawatha Dairy in Lake Hiawatha — or visit one of these other North Jersey gems:

  • Alpine Creamery , 14 White Deer Plaza, Sparta; 973-726-0777, alpinecreamerynj.com .
  • Cranberry Junction Homemade Ice Cream , 19 Temple Ave., Hackensack; 201-546-8966, cranberryjunctionicecream.com .
  • Goffle Creamery , 686 Goffle Road, Hawthorne; 973-304-4322, facebook.com/Goffle-Creamery .

Enjoy rides and games at State Fair Meadowlands in East Rutherford

During the summer, State Fair Meadowlands is a must-visit in North Jersey. Each year, the Meadowlands Sports Complex transforms into an extravagant carnival filled with more than 100 rides, including a "kiddie land" for young children; games like ring toss and balloon popping, as well as more than 50 food vendors selling classic fair foods like funnel cake, fried Oreos, lemonade and more. There will also be several forms of live entertainment, including freestyle motocross and BMX stunts, pig racing, magician Artie Miller, a petting zoo and much more. Plus, there will be fireworks shows on July 3 and July 4 in celebration of Independence Day.

This year, State Fair Meadowlands will run from June 20 to July 7. For admission, Fun Pass tickets are $39.99 per person and must be purchased online. These tickets include admission, unlimited rides, free parking, free shows, entertainment and access to the petting zoo.

Go to a drive-in movie at the Warwick Drive-In Theater

The Delsea Drive-In Theater in Vineland is the only remaining drive-in theater in New Jersey and, unfortunately, it's just a bit too far of a trip for those of us who live in North Jersey. Luckily, though, the Warwick Drive-In Theater in Warwick, New York, is located just across the state border and is an easier trip to take on a summer night.

Originally opened in 1950, the Warwick Drive-In Theater has three separate viewing screens that all offer double features of different movies each night. Upon entering, all you have to do it find a spot in front of your designated screen and turn your car or portable radio — you can bring your own or rent one for $5 — to the appropriate radio station. Then, sit back and relax to watch the movie from the comfort of your own vehicle.

Tickets are $13 for adults, and $9 for both kids and seniors. They can either be purchased online with a credit card, or at the drive-in theater's box office with cash only. There is also a cash-only snack bar available selling freshly cooked foods, snacks, candy and drinks.

Hours: The first movie showing on all screens begins at 8:55 p.m. each night.

Go: 5 Warwick Turnpike, Warwick; 845-986-4440, warwickdrivein.com .

Learn about different animals at the zoo

Just like people, animals tend to be more active and playful during the warmer months. So, take a trip to see them in action this summer at one of North Jersey's zoos.

Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange has about 1,400 animals across 20 acres in the South Mountain Reservation. The zoo has exhibits like African Adventure, Big Cat Country, Essex Farm, Sea Lion Sound and a stingray touch tank. There are also other activities available like safari mini golf, a prehistoric playground, pony rides, face painting and a butterfly tent. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Go:  560 Northfield Ave., West Orange; 973-731-5800,  turtlebackzoo.com .

There is also the Bergen County Zoo in Paramus. Situated within the more than 130 acres of Van Saun County Park, the zoo is home to more than 600 animals, including birds, farm animals, monkeys, big cats and more. There are also train and carousel rides available. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Go: 216 Forest Ave., Paramus; 201-634-3100, bergencountyzoo.com .

Watch hot air balloons launch at the Warren County Farmers' Fair and Balloon Festival

From July 27 to Aug. 3, the 86th Annual Warren County Farmers' Fair and Balloon Festival will be held in Phillipsburg. The fair will have a main arena with entertainment like demolition derbies, tractor pulls and a new Black Cat Hell Riders stun show. Other attractions will include exhibits from local artists and farmers, carnival rides, a beer garden, a children's activity area and more.

In addition to the fair, as many as 25 hot air balloons will launch into the sky every night of the fair at 6:30 p.m. And, if you're feeling spontaneous, you can even purchase a ticket for a private hot balloon ride during the event.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages six to 12. They can be purchased in-person at the fair, or online for a $1 off per ticket.
