INFECTED RAIN Announce North American Headlining Tour

Moldovan progressive modern metal unit  INFECTED RAIN  are firing on all cylinders after the release of their new album, Ecdysis , which just dropped on January 7, 2022, via Napalm Records. On the strength of the new record, INFECTED RAIN is excited to announce that they’re returning to the road in North America this spring! The upcoming month-long trek kicks off on May 10 in Los Angeles, CA, and concludes in San Diego, CA on June 9. A complete list of dates can be found below.

INFECTED RAIN is a modern metal band that has gained a reputation for their unique and energetic blend of styles, which features female screaming, hard riffs, and electronic sound. Since forming in 2008, they have played numerous concerts in Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine.

The band released their first demo CD at the end of the same year, which consisted of three songs: “With Me,” “Parasite,” and “No Idols.” Over the next two years, they continued to play concerts in the region, and in 2009, they released their first EP, featuring six songs including “Judgmental Trap,” “Panika,” and “Homeless.”

Their first music video, “Judgmental Trap,” was released in the winter of 2009, and in 2011, they released their debut album, “Asylum,” which was followed by a tour in Romania to support the record. INFECTED RAIN continued to gain exposure and collaborations with tours and the release of new music videos for songs like “At the Bottom of the Bottle” and “Me Against You”.

In 2014, the band released their second album, “Embrace Eternity,” and embarked on their first major tour throughout Russia, Ukraine and the whole Europe. They continued to gain momentum in the metal scene with the release of their third album, “86,” in 2017, which included hit songs like “Serendipity,” “Mold,” and “Orphan Soul.”

After spending 2018 composing new music and touring, INFECTED RAIN announced their signing with Napalm Records in February 2019 and released their first single under the label, “Passerby,” accompanied by a music video. This was followed by the release of their fourth album, “Endorphin,” in October 2019, which featured songs like “The Earth Mantra,” “Lure,” and “Storm.”

After the successful release of “Endorphin,” INFECTED RAIN did not rest on their laurels. They went on to create their fifth album called “Ecdysis,” which was well-received by their fans and critics alike. The album was released in 2022.

As always, Infected Rain’s music preferences and individual styles combine to create something new and exciting for their listeners. “Ecdysis” cemented the band’s position in the modern metal scene and earned them a dedicated fanbase.

Currently, Infected Rain is hard at work on their sixth album, and their fans can’t wait to see what they have in store for them next. With their past success, the band has set the bar high for themselves, and their upcoming album is expected to deliver the same level of excellence that their fans have come to expect.

• Infected Rain

Infected Rain is a nu metal/metalcore band, formed in 2008 in Chișinău, Moldova. Infected Rain has been known to fuse various musical styles, from nu metal (rapping, turntablism), metalcore (breakdowns, chugging guitar riffs, screaming) to melodic death metal (harmonies, melodies, deathgrowls). They make use of downtuned guitars and bass guitar, double bass drums, metalcore breakdowns, turntablism. Vocals ranges from high-pitched screams to deathgrowling, clean singing and to a lesser extent some rapping on part of singer Elena Cataraga. Infected Rain are signed to Napalm Records and have released five studio albums, the latest of which is 2022's Ecdysis .

Modern progressive metal unit INFECTED RAIN experienced their most successful years yet in 2022 and 2023, and are back to own 2024 with brand new music! Amid their current USA tour with Wednesday 13 , the band has announced their multifaceted upcoming sixth album, ' TIME' , out February 9, 2024via Napalm Records.

Following their most successful album to date, 2022's ' Ecdysis' - which garnered prime media acclaim, hundreds of thousands of streams and views, and debuted in the Top 20 on the US Current Hard Music charts - INFECTED RAIN climbs even higher with ' TIME' . Since their formation in 2008, Moldovan progressive modern metal unit Infected Rain have become one of the most exciting new acts in the heavy music world. In November 2021, in support of their fifth studio album, Ecdysis (2022), the band fronted by multi-talented vocalist Lena Scissorhands - one of the fastest-rising leading ladies of the genre - offered an exclusive concert stream, entitled The Devil’s Dozen. It was available online for only eight days. Prevention of kernel smut disease in rice harvest

Agrilife extension experts cover best practices to mitigate risk of rice disease.

Over the last several years, rice kernel smut disease has transformed from a low-grade issue to a challenge for rice growers in Texas and other U.S. Rice Belt regions, according to experts.

Young-Ki Jo , Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service specialist and professor in the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology , said kernel smut has become increasingly problematic for Southern U.S. rice producers. Concerns about rice kernel smut disease culminated with an outbreak in 2021 that led to a significant reduction in rice quality and quantity for Texas growers.

“Things are changing in the rice industry,” Jo said. “Every year, we have a new threat — too much or too little water, triple-digit temperatures during sensitive growth stages. Those factors are always going to affect plant health, but emerging diseases and pests are causing additional problems alongside extreme weather.

“Kernel smut disease has been around for a long time, but only recently has it started to raise major concerns in rice production in Texas. Especially with the frequent rain this season, growers need to act now to limit the risk of a disease outbreak during the first crop harvest.”

What causes kernel smut disease

Kernel smut disease is an infection of the endosperm in rice kernels by the fungus Tilltia horrida. Jo said kernel smut spores disperse by wind and water and can remain in the soil for longer than three years. The resilience of the spores increases the likelihood of repeated outbreaks in the same fields.

The initial infection of the fungus on rice plants is unnoticeable and does not affect the plant growth, Jo said. Infected kernels look normal at the early stage. However, at maturity, infected kernels are filled with a black sooty powder — the fungal spores, called teliospores. In addition to reducing yields, the infection can result in price reductions at mills or even outright rejection of rice grains contaminated with black spores.

“One of the challenges in controlling kernel smut disease is the early diagnostics,” Jo said. “There aren’t any lesions or symptoms on the leaves, the grain looks fine, and then suddenly when it matures, the infected grain is full of black spores. We don’t always know when the fungus starts to infect the plant, but we know the fungus must enter flowers to complete its disease cycle.”

Kernel smut prevention strategies

There are no fully disease-resistant rice cultivars or silver-bullet treatment methods for kernel smut, which means disease management must be preventive, using fungicides.

“Since early diagnosis is very difficult, if not impossible, we will have to use fungicide proactively to control the disease,” he said. “Growers should treat with fungicide in the early stages and may need to perform multiple applications before or immediately after panicle emergence.”

Jo recommends using fungicides with newer triazole ingredients, such as difenoconazole at the mid-boot stage, and applying a second round of fungicides within a 14-day interval when the weather condition is favorable for fungal infection, like this year.

Additionally, planting early and using hybrid rice varieties, which are known to be generally less susceptible to diseases, can help in reducing disease occurrence.

AgriLife Extension’s response to rice disease

Beginning in July, Jo said AgriLife Extension’s county agent rice team will begin its annual field surveillance to collect data across Texas rice growing regions on disease severity and any additional issues.

“We collect data throughout the summer and compile it to determine how to best respond to rice disease issues,” he said. “We’re going to have new information, which allows us to update and improve our recommendations every year.”

Jo said the rice team also coordinates and shares their findings with rice researchers at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Beaumont , who are working to develop disease-resistant cultivars and better management practices. Producers can attend the Eagle Lake Rice Field Day on June 25 and the 76th annual Beaumont Rice Field Day on July 11 to tour the research stations and hear from experts about rice breeding, plant physiology, and insect, weed and disease management.

“Our AgriLife Extension rice team is trying to facilitate more coordinated efforts to support the Texas rice industry,” Jo said. “The major goal is to keep a tight relationship between county agents, specialists, rice researchers and Texas rice growers.”

Bolton: Scottie Scheffler’s brilliance means seeking options to diversify your wagers

With Scottie Scheffler hogging the trophies these days, all the tickets to win the U.S. Open without his name on it in the outright market feel like they present as sucker bets. So, diversify.

With that in mind and respecting Scheffler’s brilliance, zero in on the market that excludes him. PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele sits atop BetMGM’s outright “without Scheffler” market at +900. That’s much tastier, but Collin Morikawa slots second in my Power Rankings and he’s at +1200. While you can’t go wrong with either major champion in tiptop form, Morikawa has found another gear since a T3 at the Masters. It’s his time again.

To balance your card, review the 46 options on the Make/Miss-the-Cut board that range from Scheffler at +800 to Tiger Woods at -300. The cut of low 60 and ties after two rounds is the stingiest in golf for what often is the most democratic of contests. Exploit it.

Lastly, dive into the place markets for tons of value. My Sleepers column features a through line of bogey avoidance as an attribute for success, but you could swim around in the Top 40 market all day and place bets with promise.

Just remember to leave room for a unit for Scheffler to win.

No changes to the expected heat. What little chance for rain previously populated in the forecast has been all but erased. Wind always is a wild card but there are no fears for it to be a headline.

With variables quelled, all of the focus shifts to the Ultradwarf Bermudagrass greens and the staff that cares for them. The surface is so much more tolerant of the conditions on tap than the previous bentgrass greens, so keeping them in check is theoretically easier during every day across four rounds. Fans (and golfers) triggered by previous episodes of U.S. Open greens getting out of control should experience an outcome of only fear, not reality. Pinehurst No. 2 is too pure of a test for those in control to let go of the reins. Its challenges on approach, scrambling for pars and reading greens are enough individually and collectively.

Power Rankings wild card

Wyndham Clark (+150 = Miss the Cut) … At the 10:38 mark of “Talk of the TOUR” for the Memorial and in response to my recommendation to invest in Clark, host John Swantek said, “You just can’t quit Wyndham. I get it.” Sadly, I didn’t. But now it’s time. I’m not at all concerned that Clark is the defending champion this week because he’s already been through those emotions in that role (at the Wells Fargo Championship), but what impresses on paper and his comfort in the spotlight isn’t matching in practice. While he has a (54-hole) victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am highlighting four podium finishes this year, he arrives having missed the cut in each of the first two majors and last week at Muirfield Village.

'They are extremely fast': Wyndham Clark on the greens at Pinehurst No. 2

Other notables

Jordan Spieth (+150 = Miss the Cut) … As much as he’s deserved the benefit of the doubt, it’s been four months since his lack of concentration led to disqualification at The Genesis Invitational . Sure, it’s an honest mistake but he’s gone on to miss five cuts and now sits just one shy of matching his single-season high (2022-23). With uninspiring form upon arrival that includes six over-par scores in his last seven rounds, you’d have understood if BetMGM omitted him from this market this week.

Alex Noren (+320 = Top 20) … It can be easy to dismiss a flurry of top 20s in between tentpole stops, and for many it’s the right move, just not for the Swede with six top 20s in his last 10 starts, including a T19 in THE PLAYERS Championship and T12 in the PGA Championship. He continues to enjoy this later career surge on the shoulders of an all-around game that slots him T18 in greens hit, 13th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, third in scrambling, third in bogey avoidance, T3 in par-4 scoring and fifth in adjusted scoring. He’s also a veteran in the majors, so experience and patience are unquantifiable weapons.

Billy Horschel (+400 = Top 20) … The year after he made his professional debut in the U.S. Open with a T4 in 2013, he finished T23 at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2014. That was the same year in which he won the FedExCup and he hasn’t fared better in this major since despite his affinity for tough tracks. The timing of his return to Pinehurst aligns with solid form that’s yielded seven top 20s in 2024, including a victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship and a T15 at the Memorial where he was locked in on speedy greens. For the season, he’s fourth in Strokes Gained: Putting and adjusted scoring. The 37-year-old also sits T2 in par-3 scoring, 13th in scrambling and 11th in bogey avoidance.

NOTE: Not everything needs a setup. For a variety of reasons, these lines are too enticing to ignore.
