WATCH: HGTV Unveils 2023 Urban Oasis Home and Reveals Its Location (Exclusive)

Fans can enter to win the charming bungalow between Oct. 2 and Nov. 21

Erin Clack is a Staff Editor for PEOPLE. She has been writing about fashion, parenting and pop culture for more than 15 years.

HGTV has opened the doors to the 2023 Urban Oasis — and PEOPLE has the exclusive first look!

On Wednesday, the network will unveil the brand-new, fully furnished home located in Louisville, Kentucky. Take a tour of the four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath bungalow's playful interiors (above) and gracious exterior (below). The home is the grand prize for a sweepstakes package valued at more than $850,000 that also includes a 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV and $50,000 from Viva.

The latest Urban Oasis, designed by HGTV star Brian Patrick Flynn and built by Twin Spires Remodeling, offers nearly 2,300 square feet of comfortable living space and combines modern luxury with touches of Southern charm.

“This year’s home is a cozy bungalow that melds the natural Kentucky landscape with modern, city living, providing the best of both worlds to the winner,” Flynn said in a release.

He continued, “Louisville is a big, small town, and the HGTV Urban Oasis captures the energy of the city through its nods to local culture and colorful, comfortable spaces that act as a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of the city."

Highlights of the home include an open-concept first floor with a light-filled dining room and a living room featuring large picture windows and custom-made cabinetry.

The kitchen is outfitted with midnight blue cabinets, gray-and-white checkerboard tile and brass finishes, and features access to an inviting backyard patio. A secret door in the kitchen's wall spanning millwork leads to a convenient powder room.

A beautifully appointed first-floor primary suite "evokes the rolling hills of Kentucky," home to the Kentucky Derby, with green curtains, chairs and accents throughout, according to the release. The main bathroom, meanwhile, is designed with two separate vanities and a spacious modern tub, topped with a statement-making equine photograph.

The home's second floor houses a multifunctional loft space, two guest bedrooms and a guest bathroom, along with a multipurpose room with access to a sizable balcony. A pair of skylights, which are featured throughout the Craftsman-inspired home, fill the multipurpose room with natural light.

The backyard is well appointed for entertaining with a porch, outdoor dining area and plenty of lawn space for recreation.

The lucky future owner of the 2023 Urban Oasis will also get to experience all that the Bourbon City has to offer.

Located on the Ohio River, Louisville boasts a bustling downtown with a wide variety of dining and entertainment options, festivals, music events and more. The city also is home to the famed Whiskey Row, once the hub of the bourbon industry, on historic Main Street.

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

“The HGTV Urban Oasis provides a balanced lifestyle for the modern homeowner, offering the culture of an exciting city like Louisville as well as the comfort we look to find in a home,” said Loren Ruch, HGTV's Head of Content.

“This HGTV Home Giveaway shines a spotlight on another great American city, while also showing millions of fans across the country unique design inspirations and ideas.”

Fans hoping to nab the keys to the Urban Oasis can enter the sweepstakes beginning Monday, Oct. 2. at 9 a.m. ET until Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. ET. Eligible fans can enter twice per day on HGTV's website and on Food Network's website while the contest runs.

HGTV will also air the  HGTV Urban Oasis 2023  one-hour special showcasing the home in all its glory on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. ET.

Outdoor Living Room

2019 Dreamhome outdoor living space

The outdoor living room and patio were positioned at an offset angle so as to not interrupt the panoramic skyline of Glacier National Park. The design is anchored by a Bordeaux™ Series Outdoor Fireplace with matching wood boxes. The stacked-stone look of the Bordeaux pieces blends well with the natural environment, adding a rustic elegance to the design. Avalon Slate pavers are laid in a contemporary ashlar pattern to add a modern touch, and feature a slate-like texture and color blend that mimics tones found in the surrounding mountainscape. Wicker sofas, additional bench seating and rustic accessories enhance the eclectic look.

Grill Island and Dining Area

HGTV 2019 Dream Home Outdoor Tour

The outdoor living room patio steps down to the dining area to create two distinct outdoor rooms. A Bordeaux™ Series Grill Island coordinates with the stacked-stone look of the adjacent outdoor fireplace. The grill island is positioned to allow the outdoor chef to take in the lovely view of Whitefish Lake during meal prep. The ample patio allows for additional gathering space for entertaining larger groups. Rustic wooden dining furniture lends a classic touch to the space.

 Built-In Seat Wall

The chiseled-stone look of Tandem® Modular Grid coordinates with the tones and textures of the paver field, providing the framework for post columns and a built-in bench seat at the foot of the dining area. The seat wall and columns not only add a sophisticated touch to the porch, but provide permanent seating. Throw pillows soften the look, add a touch of comfort and help tie the design together.

Indoor-Outdoor Flow

Every first floor room facing the back of the home features folding glass doors that act as picture windows during the winter months and open to create seamless indoor-outdoor living during the milder months. The kitchen window also features bar seating for indoor-outdoor entertaining. The porch is divided into distinct conversation zones, including a Scandanavian-style hot tub and a cozy private sitting area off of the master bedroom.

 Striking Entryway

In addition to the backyard, Belgard also provided Noon Porcelain Pavers for the HGTV 2019 dream home’s dramatic entryway. The eclectic design of the entry sets the architectural tone for home’s contemporary/rustic design theme. Stone veneer provides a classic mountain look, but with contemporary color blends. The front door, beams and light fixture offer classic touches that are offset by the landing’s contemporary paver design. Planters add pops of color and a finishing touch to the eclectic look.

THIS TRULY is a dream house. Mountains, water, open spaces, just beautiful. This is truly God’s masterpiece.

' src=

The dream home 2019 is absolutely beautiful, with breath taking views on the master bedroom and stairway up to guest room!! I love it that it’s in Colorado, where I have always wanted to live!!

' src=

We think it’s breathtaking, too! But the home is actually in Montana. Both states are amazingly beautiful.

I meant to say that I have always wanted to live in Montana– not Colorado!! I totally enjoyed the tour of the construction of this awesome house and the wonderful views!! Was so impressed on how the massive beams were put into place!! My husband and I would love to have the opportunity to live in this beautiful home!!

Totally agree! Thanks for reading the blog and taking the time to comment.

' src=

is Whitefish, Montana now in Colorado?

LOL, no. That reader just made a typo. She corrected it in a follow-up comment.

' src=

Is it Grizzly proof?

Good question! I would imagine the sliding doors would need to be closed to keep the grizzlies out. 😉

' src=

Absolutely beautiful!!!

' src=

This is a gorgeous home and I’ll be researching your products for a remodel we’re planning. I have a question tho. In the section where the kitchen is open via the windows folded back (to pass food thru)…how do you keep insects and/or birds from flying in?

When the folding doors are completely open, there would be no protection against insects or birds. That’s why this type of indoor/outdoor living scenario would only work in certain regions. This blogger lives in Louisiana, where we have a lot of flying insects. We also have a lot of humidity, which would be another issue. So, this design is definitely not ideal here and may not work in your neck of the woods, either.

Beautiful house location amazing and a chance to win an awesome new Honda now the only thing missing is an Apple Pie. This ones for me. Retired ready to relocate.

Must I say more.

If I don’t win can you send me lots or Belgard to use in my back yard? I know but unless you ask you never know. Right

Good Luck 🍀 everyone 🇺🇸

Wish we could! Good luck!

' src=

Seriously beautiful!

' src=

Love your products

' src=

This house is so, so gorgeous. It makes me miss the west even more.

' src=

How much acreage comes with the home?

I didn’t have that data in any of my project information, but submitted the question to our contact and can let you know what I find out.

We were able to obtain that information. The HGTV Dream Home 2019 lot is 2.214 acres.

' src=

My heart, my heart. I would love to win the absolutely beautiful home. I was an RN for 47 years and would love to relax and take in all that fresh mountain air.

' src=

Thank you for the creative and esthetic development of the outdoor living space for this beautiful home.

' src=

What happens if you win and don’t want to move to Montana?😂😂

I believe there’s a cash option, but I could be wrong.

Court filings reveal new details in lawsuit against HGTV’s ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ star’s companies

B ENTON COUNTY, Ark. ( KNWA/KFTA ) — A recent court filing reveals new details in a lawsuit against the companies owned by HGTV stars Dave and Jenny Marrs.

Bentonville, Arkansas, couple Matthew and Sarah McGrath filed a lawsuit in February 2023 claiming a house built for them a year earlier had numerous defects and the companies who built the home had breached a contract.

The lawsuit mentions Jupiter Rentals and Marrs Construction, both owned by Dave Marrs, one-half of the couple that stars in HGTV shows “Rock the Block” and “Fixer to Fabulous.”

The McGraths claim they paid over $10,000 for upgrades on a Bella Vista home, including replacing the kitchen sink, adding stairs and a handrail to the back deck, putting windows in a top garage panel, and continuing hardwood floors into bedrooms.

An inspection prior to closing on the property produced a list of repairs for Jupiter Rentals, according to the lawsuit. While the company agreed to complete several items on the list within 30 days, the McGraths say “not a single item on the list of repairs had been performed.”

The lawsuit claims the companies “attempted some of the repairs listed but have failed to fully perform, and several of the attempts to repair have caused more damage to the house.” The McGraths say they found additional defects in the construction of the home after taking possession of it, and learned of more “deficiencies in the construction” after an inspection.

Multiple attempts at court-ordered mediation have failed, and after months of back and forth between the two parties, no settlement has been reached.

Evidence shared in a recent 45-page filing provides even more details about what led to the lawsuit.

A letter from the McGraths’ legal counsel to Marrs and a report of findings for a structural investigation carried out by an Arkansas-based contractor were included in documents filed on March 29.

Legal counsel claims in the letter, dated January 3, 2023, that professional estimates predicted these costs:

  • Repair and proper construction of drive and walkways – $38,740
  • Landscaping and grading, including installation of French drain – $47,862

The estimates did not include nearly $1,900 expended by the McGraths “in attempts to

discover the extent of the flaws in the construction of the home,” according to the letter.

The letter continued, “Please understand, these reports do not completely detail the remedial work that needs to be performed to rectify the many failures in workmanship but only represent my clients’ current understanding of the nature and scope of repairs.”

A report of findings, dated November 12, 2022, was included in the filing and said that additional investigations and design analysis were warranted in regards to roof framing, main floor framing, wall framing and wind bracing, deck foundations, deck floor modifications and attachment to the home, grading, and drainage issues.

The report said that given the age of the home, more structural issues could present themselves in the coming years. “The problems, which we observed, will continue and worsen until they are corrected,” the report added.

Nearly two dozen code issues or violations were included in the report for various parts of the house.

Among the issues found was that the deck was screwed to the rim of the house instead of being bolted to the rim. The contractor called it a “critical safety issue with the structural integrity of the deck.”

The McGraths are seeking the court’s judgment against the defendants and want the attorneys’ fees and litigation costs to be awarded as relief.

When reached for comment, an attorney representing the McGraths told Nexstar’s KNWA/KFTA, “I think the position my clients want to take is to avoid public comment on any of this until it’s over.”

Representatives for the defendants did not immediately respond to KNWA/KFTA’s request for comment.

A pretrial hearing is set for September 5 with the five-day jury trial scheduled to begin September 23 at the Benton County Courthouse.

This is not the first time that the Marrs’ have been sued regarding their construction. In 2021, a couple filed a lawsuit accusing Marrs Construction of failing to complete the work on their home without defects.

The lawsuit states the Marrs’ “did not maintain an Arkansas Contractor’s License” and “neither Marrs Developing, LLC nor Marrs Construction, Inc. obtained the required construction-related permits from Benton County, Arkansas, for the remodel to occur at the home.”

The case was dismissed in March 2022 with an order from Judge Xollie Duncan, stating, “The court finds that the plaintiffs have settled their claims and fully released the defendants from any and all claims the plaintiffs may have against them.”

PGA TOUR winner Grayson Murray passes away at 30

PGA TOUR winner Grayson Murray passes away at 30

Change Text Size

Grayson Murray, who won his second PGA TOUR title at this year’s Sony Open in Hawaii, passed away Saturday.

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Commissioner Monahan continued. “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

Grief counselors were made available at the venues for this week’s PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour events. Commissioner Monahan, who traveled from TOUR headquarters in Florida to the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, said he was "devastated" by the loss.

Grayson's parents, Eric and Terry Murray, said in a statement Sunday that the cause of death was suicide .

"Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes," his parents wrote. "By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed."

Murray, 30, was a standout golfer from his youth. He won three consecutive Callaway Junior World Championships (2006-08) and was the top-ranked golfer in his age group. He made his first cut on the Korn Ferry Tour at age 16, becoming the second-youngest player ever to do so. After stints at Wake Forest University, East Carolina University and Arizona State University, he got the break he needed in 2016 when he was given a sponsor exemption into the Korn Ferry Tour event near his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. He finished inside the top 10 at that event, the Rex Hospital Open, which qualified him for another start. When he posted another top 10 at the BMW Charity Pro-Am, his professional career took off. He concluded his season with a victory at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship to finish second on the Korn Ferry Tour money list and earn full status on the PGA TOUR for the 2016-17 season. The win came a week before his 23rd birthday.

Murray wasted little time establishing himself on golf’s biggest stage as a rookie. He won the 2017 Barbasol Championship while still just 23 years old. His final-round 68 not only secured a one-shot victory, but also solidified a two-year exemption through the 2019 PGA TOUR season. He finished 66th in the FedExCup and earned nearly $1.5 million.

Grayson struggled for the next few seasons on the PGA TOUR. In 2023, he found his game again on the Korn Ferry Tour; he notched two victories – the Advent Health Championship in Kansas City and the Simmons Bank Open outside of Nashville – to finish fourth on that tour’s points list and earn a spot back onto the PGA TOUR for the following season.

Murray opened the 2024 season with a playoff victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii. He made a clutch up and down on the 72nd hole for a birdie to force a playoff. Then he sank a 40-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to defeat Byeong Hun An and Keegan Bradley. He reached a career-high 46th in the Official World Golf Ranking after that victory.

Step Inside the 'Ugliest House In America' Season 5 Home Makeover

In Season 5 of HGTV's Ugliest House in America , actress and comedian Retta once again goes in search of just what that show title would suggest — and rest assured, she finds it.

hgtv virtual tour

Ugliest House in America — 2024 Edition

Ordinarily at HGTV, we specialize in beautiful, skillfully designed spaces and inspiring homes. But when it comes to the Ugliest House in America , it's all about seeking out and celebrating "ugly" — then fixing it. During Season 5, Retta traveled across the United States looking for the most unattractive, dysfunctional and bizarre homes. She found what she was looking for in a St. Cloud, Minnesota, home , which featured a patchwork of strange design, weird construction and questionable color choices.

First Impressions

Then Retta enlisted the assistance of Alison Victoria , host of HGTV's Windy City Rehab , to undertake a bold and ambitious $150,000 makeover of the off-kilter home. Fear not: We'll get around to beautiful pictures and captivating spaces eventually, but first, get ready to feast your eyes on some seriously egregious design don'ts and certifiable top-shelf ugliness. Here, Alison and Retta survey the kitchen and other interiors at this year's prizewinner before renovations begin. So, how ugly can one house get? We'll show you.

Retta and Alison in Joe and Jack's Technicolor Prison home after renovation

Joe and Jack's Amazing Technicolor Nightmare

Prior to the renovation, Alison and Retta met with homeowners Joe and Jack (L to R) to review some of the house's many offending attributes. Jack and Joe bought the house sight-unseen for the asking price of $250,000. They were looking for a home that stood out in the neighborhood, and the distinct and unique exterior appealed to them. Once they got ready to move in — and saw the interiors — buyers' remorse began to set in.

Exterior of the Joe and Jacks Amazing Technicolor Prison house

Before: An Eye-Catching Exterior

Joe and Jack's 2,017-square-foot home was built in 1940. Though it boasts attractive twin turrets, the structure is built almost entirely out of cinder blocks — and soon became known in the neighborhood as "the concrete bunker." (Or simply as "that weird house.") The exterior paint color was left over from the previous owners. Is it teal, aqua, turquoise or mint? We're not certain.
