Schengen Visa and Visa Code

In order to apply for a Schengen visa, the applicant needs to provide the documents as per the purpose of the trip. In individual cases, additional documents may be requested. Presentation of the documents does not automatically lead to the issuance of a visa and possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right of entry. There is no automatic entitlement or legal right to a Schengen visa. The ultimate decision regarding admission to the Schengen territory lies with the border authorities upon arrival.A Visa can be applied for as early as 180 days before the expected date of departure.

The Visa Code standardizes the visa requirements which must be examined by the mission in the course of the visa procedure. The respective mission makes a decision on the visa application at its own discretion, taking into account all the circumstances in any given individual case.

All visa applicants for Germany are advised to schedule an appointment and visit the Joint Visa Application Centre in Doha to submit their applications, together with all necessary documents

Processing time for a visa may take up to 15 days. Applicants are therefore requested to organise themselves accordingly taking into consideration possible waiting periods due to the online appointment system.

The purpose of the proposed visit may not be altered once the visa has been issued. This is also applicable after entering the Schengen territory.

Do’s and Don’ts When in Germany

When visiting a foreign country, it’s best to know what their local customs are. This way, you won’t offend your hosts, and enhance your overall experience.

Be punctual.

Germans value punctuality, so make sure to arrive at your scheduled appointments at least ten minutes early. If you anticipate being late, it’s best to inform the other party in advance.

Use proper names

Address individuals by their family name, including any hyphenated names. In some cases, you may notice locals using “Sie” as a formal form of address.

Garbage Segregation

Germans are environmentally conscious, so they exert effort in separating their wastes. Make sure to dispose of your garbage in the appropriate containers, such as recycling paper with other recyclables.

Calling in the evening

Avoid making phone calls after 8 PM without prior agreement, particularly on weekends. Many households are either resting or engaged in leisure activities, such as watching TV shows. However, it is acceptable to communicate via social media or messaging apps.

Disregarding traffic rules

It is considered impolite and disruptive to cross the road at a red light, even if no vehicles are in sight. Ignoring traffic rules may offend pedestrians, and you may encounter well-meaning individuals who feel compelled to inform you of your infraction .

Spontaneous visit at home

Most German households prefer to be informed in advance if someone plans to visit their homes. Germans like to ensure that their homes are in order before receiving guests. Therefore, always ask and obtain permission before making any unplanned visits.

The  Qatar business visa  is one of the most sought-after visas in the world. Every year, millions of visitors visit the country to invest in the local economy or explore emerging opportunities. If you would like to visit Qatar on a business trip, this is one article you would like to read. Below, we furnish you with all the information you need about the visa, the documents required, and how to apply.

Qatar At A Glance

Qatar is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and the citizenry enjoys one of the highest living standards ever. The country also boasts the most significant trade, financial and business sectors in the Middle East, with big brands and conglomerates setting up shop there. Despite being a small country with an even smaller population, Qatar remains relevant in the international business community. The petroleum and gas industry, primarily Qatar’s major revenue earner, fueled the economy.

With a limitless oil and gas reserve, the country sustains the economy of other nations by providing energy. Furthermore, the Qatari royal family has successfully diversified the economy away from oil into multiple sectors such as real estate, financial services, tourism, sports, events, exhibitions, etc. This move has strengthened the Qatar economy and attracted millions of professionals and investors from around the world.

To make the process more cohesive, the Qatari government launched a particular type of visa called the business visa.

Qatar Business Visa

A business visa is a special travel permit or authorization issued to company employees, entrepreneurs, or investors. This visa allows them entry into Qatar to pursue their economic interests. Business visas offer a temporary stay in Qatar and are not the same as employment visas. This means that business visitor is not allowed to engage in any form of work that will earn them direct pay. Although the visa is for commercial purposes, there are strict laws and guidelines governing the actions and activities of the visitor.

Who Is Eligible For A Qatar Visa?

This visa is only issued to visitors that meet certain conditions. Firstly, the applicant must only enter the country for professional, investment, or business purposes. Secondly, they must provide clear and valid documents issued by their sponsors in Qatar. Also of importance is the applicant’s age, as the visa cannot be issued to a person under the age of 18. Lastly, the applicant must have a valid passport and no criminal records.

Types Of Qatar Business Visa

The Qatari government has also introduced different types of visas for business visitors to cater to their needs. Let’s review them below.

72 Hours Visa:  The 72 hours Qatar Visa has the shortest timeframe. It is issued on arrival at the airport for visitors coming for business meetings, exhibitions, and conferences. However, the holder may apply for a further 72 hours extension once they arrive in Qatar.

30/90 Days Visa:  The 30 or 90 days visa is issued to people coming to execute short-term projects, most of whom are professionals like consultants and contractors. This visa is applied for by authorized agents and businesses in Qatar, and a sponsorship letter is issued to the applicant, which they must take to the embassy. The 30-day visa can be extended for another 60 days, while the 90 days visa can be extended for another 9 months. However, note that only those who meet specified conditions will be issued the extension.

Qatar Business Visa Fee

Like with all visas, this one has a non-refundable fee. Paying this fee does not mean that your application will be accepted, but it is mandatory that you pay it; otherwise, your application will be rejected. The fee depends on the one you apply for.

72 Hours Visa fee is QR 50

30 Days Visa fee is QR 200 for each month you stay

90 Days Visa fee is QR 200 per month

These fees are payable in the equivalent local currency.

Qatar Launches Innovative Residency Visa Programme to Attract Foreigners

  • Kenyan entrepreneurs and skilled workers will soon have an opportunity to relocate to Qatar for greener pastures
  • The Middle Eastern country announced that it is looking to bolster its dynamic labour market by attracting talent from across the world
  • The administrative fees for visa applications are KSh 179,000 for the ‘Entrepreneur’ visa and KSh 143,000 for the ‘Talent’ visa

In a landmark move to attract global entrepreneurial and professional talent, Qatar has announced the rollout of the Mustaqel residency visa programme.

The initiative, led by the Qatar Manpower Solutions Company (Jusour), aims to draw the world’s top entrepreneurs and highly skilled professionals across various sectors.

What is Qatar's Entrepreneur Visa?

Doha News reports that the Mustaqel programme offers a five-year residency permit with the possibility of renewal and is segmented into two distinct categories.

While the application launch date has not been disclosed, anticipation is high for the upcoming months.

The ‘Entrepreneur Visa’ targets business owners, particularly those operating small to medium enterprises (SMEs).

To qualify, applicants must secure an endorsement from a Qatar-based business incubator.

Successful candidates will be issued an ‘endorsement code’, a crucial element for the online application.

Who qualifies for Qatar's Talent Visa?

Conversely, the ‘Talent Visa’ is designed for skilled individuals in the arts, entertainment, sports, and technology.

These applicants must obtain a talent endorsement from a relevant Qatari entity to proceed with their application.

Prospective applicants must furnish a copy of their passport, degree certificate, police clearance, and proof of experience.

The Mustaqel programme facilitates living and working in Qatar and allows asset ownership, residency benefits, and the option to apply for family visas.

What are the costs for Qatar Visas?

The administrative fees for visa applications are 5,000 Qatari Riyals (KSh 179,225) for the ‘Entrepreneur’ visa and 4,000 Qatari Riyals (KSh 143,380) for the ‘Talent’ visa.

In the event of a rejection, applicants are assured a fee refund.

The programme is poised to enrich Qatar’s national talent pool, spur economic growth, and align with the developmental objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which focuses on diversifying the nation’s economy.

Germany introduces opportunity card to entice foreign workers

Qatar's announcement comes days after Germany introduced the Opportunity Card, a new visa scheme to attract foreigners.

The program is designed to offer employment to non-EU skilled workers to help alleviate the country's labour shortage.

The Opportunity Card allows workers to immigrate to Germany without a pre-arranged job and live there for up to a year while searching for employment.

Germany's Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, emphasised the scheme's role in maintaining economic stability by addressing the skilled labour deficit.

What are you looking for?

Job search opportunity card (chancenkarte), general information.

An opportunity card has been introduced to enable jobseekers to stay in Germany to look for employment. This card can be obtained in two ways: Third-country nationals who receive full recognition of their foreign qualifications and are therefore considered “skilled workers” under Section 18 para. 3 of the Residence Act (AufenthG) can obtain an opportunity card without any further special requirements. All other applicants must provide evidence of a foreign university degree, a vocational qualification of at least two years’ duration (in each case recognised by the state in the country of training) or a vocational qualification issued by a German Chamber of Commerce Abroad. In addition, a basic knowledge of German (level A1 CEFR) or English (level B2 CEFR) is required.

If these requirements are met, points are awarded for criteria such as recognition of qualifications in Germany, language skills, professional experience, age, links to Germany, and the potential of accompanying partners or spouses. Applicants must score a minimum of six points to receive an opportunity card.

Opportunity cards are issued for a maximum of one year, provided that the holder is able to support themselves for that period. It allows the holder to do work trials or take up secondary employment for a maximum of 20 hours per week during their stay in Germany. If an applicant is subsequently unable to obtain another residence title for employment purposes under Part 4 (Sections 18 to 21 of the Residence Act [AufenthG]) but nevertheless has an offer of qualified employment, the opportunity card can be extended for a further two years.

How does the points system for opportunity cards work?

The points system is only relevant if Option 2 applies to you, i.e. if you are unable to demonstrate that you have a German qualification or that your foreign qualification has been fully recognised. To apply for an opportunity card visa, you must also provide evidence of formal qualifications and the necessary language skills. You can score points for the following criteria:

- Equivalence of qualification: If you have already applied for recognition of your foreign qualification and it has been found to be partially equivalent, you will receive four points. You will still receive the four points if, in the case of a regulated profession, you are required to participate in compensatory measures before obtaining a licence to practise your profession.

- Qualification in a shortage occupation: If your formal qualification is in a shortage occupation, you will get one point. To find out which occupations are considered to be in short supply, consult the List of shortage occupations.

- Professional experience: You will also be awarded points for your previous professional experience in relation to your formal qualification. Two points will be awarded if you can demonstrate that you have at least two years’ post-qualification professional experience within the last five years. If you have at least five years’ professional experience within the last seven years, you will get three points.

- Language skills: You will also earn points if your German language skills are above level A1 (CEFR). One point is awarded at level A2, two points at level B1 and three points at level B2 or above. An additional point will be awarded if you have English at level C1 or above, or if you are a native speaker.

- Age: You also receive points if you are a certain age. People who are no older than 35 get two points until the day they turn 35. All those aged between 35 and 40 are awarded one point.

- Previous stays in Germany: Have you already lived in Germany? If you can prove that you have resided legally in Germany for a continuous period of at least six months in the last five years, you will receive one point. Examples of such stays include study, language and work stays. Stays for the purpose of tourism or visiting people do not count. Copies of old passports and the visas and entry stamps they contain can be submitted as evidence.

- Skilled worker potential of spouses or life partners: Are you married or in a partnership and would like to come to Germany with your partner on an opportunity card? If your partner already meets the requirements for an opportunity card, you will be awarded one point in the points system. With this in mind, he or she can also do the self-check: opportunity card.

For both Option 1 and Option 2, you must have sufficient financial resources to fund your job search in Germany. During the visa process, you can demonstrate this ability with a blocked bank account (containing a minimum of €1,027 net per month, amount applicable in 2024) or a declaration of commitment.

Processing period

The processing period may take 2-3 months. During the processing period you cannot inquire about the status of your application. Upon expiry of the processing period only the applicant, his/her legal representative or persons holding an authorization letter from the applicant may inquire about the status of the visas.

The fee is 75,00 €, payable in QAR cash or by international credit card in Euro (Mastercard, Visa). Euro cash, checks or debit cards are not accepted. The application form can be downloaded for free.
