EDGUY - Announce new album and european tour dates

The time has come: In September EDGUY, one of Germany‘s biggest internationally acclaimed guitar driven bands in recent music history will set out on the road again in support of their forthcoming album “Age Of The Joker“ (worldwide release in August 2011). What is going to be EDGUY‘s 9th studio effort will also mark the band‘s first ‘real‘ album in almost three years; three years in which the band has toured Europe, Asia, Australia, North-, Central- and South America. And it‘s been the activities in those years that had a determining influence on forthcoming tour plans: After last year‘s chart-breaking collaboration between EDGUY vocalist Tobias Sammet and Klaus Meine of the SCORPIONS in “AVANTASIA“ and EDGUY‘s successful arena tour as the SCORPIONS´ Special Guest, now it‘s time for another ‘family internal‘ constellation to kick ass: “KOTTAK“ (the band fronted by legendary SCORPIONS drummer James Kottak) will be supporting EDGUY during the European leg of the tour. Unfortunately we have some bad news. Henjo and Michael won’t make it to the tour in April in Latin/South America. Henjo was badly hit by a car 3 months ago and had several ribs and bones broken. He is recovering well but some of the ribs are still making problems and will need some more time to heal properly. The doctors said he should not fly until everything is all right.

The only thing I knew was that I wanted to go on making music and fulfil my vision of the songs I had,” says Kai Hansen about forming  GAMMA RAY  after leaving Helloween in 1988 – a vision that paid off.

For over 30 years and with a total of eleven studio albums, the Hamburg-based power metal band built around bandleader Kai Hansen has influenced and shaped the genre. The expressiveness of their music is also reflected in their energetic live shows, which was impressively captured on their long player “30 Years Live Anniversary” (2021).

With “ Blast From The Past” , the German power metal icons  GAMMA RAY  return to their beginnings and revisit their first 10 years. The album with Kai Hansen on vocals is a cross-section of their studio albums released between 1990 and 1999.

“We said [to our fans]: ‘Choose three songs from each album'”, remembers Kai Hansen and the results formed  “Blast From The Past” , originally released in 2000 and long out of print.

All songs have been  remastered  by producer Eike Freese for this  reissue edition  and it includes  extensive liner notes  by UK journalist Dave Everley (Kerrang!, Louder, Prog, Metal Hammer, amongst others). Based on an interview conducted with Kai Hansen, they provide an insight into the making of the album and the band’s history over the first 10 years.

Today , “Blast From The Past”  with its iconic album cover by Derek Riggs (Iron Maiden) is finally available again. Along with the  Limited 3CD Digipak Edition  (including the rare “Skeletons & Majesties” mini-album as a bonus), the album is released digitally and  for the first time ever on Vinyl LP .

In 20 powerful songs  GAMMA RAY ‘s  Kai Hansen  (lead vocals, guitar) , Dirk Schlächter  (bass) , Henjo Richter  (guitar) and  Daniel Zimmermann  (drums) underscore once again their status as  one of the most important power metal bands of the last three decades .

This album is a very special release for GAMMA RAY. Germany‘s metal titans will not only celebrate their “30 YEARS LIVE ANNIVERSARY”. Furthermore, the show recorded for this album has taken place as a Live Streaming Event the band has arranged during the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. “30 YEARS LIVE ANNIVERSARY” will be out as a limited 3xLP on coloured vinyl + Blu-ray (each of the 3 LPs on a different vinyl colour, not available in the US), a 3xLP on black vinyl + Blu-ray (will come without the Blu-ray in the US), a Digipak 2xCD + DVD, and a digital release of course.

On their upcoming masterpiece “30 YEARS LIVE ANNIVERSARY”, the band would like to invite all of you to join their exclusive and only show in 2020 which has been streamed to all fans all over the globe. On September 10, This extraordinary show will be released as a double live album on both audio and video via earMUSIC. Dear Fans, as you might remember last year we had a live streaming show to celebrate the 30th anniversary of GammaRay. First we thought we could do some more real live shows with the special guests – Ralf Scheepers and Corvin Bahn – by the beginning of 2021. It’s still not possible to play live shows unfortunately and at the moment nobody knows when we can do a tour again. So we decided to make a Double Live CD of this show in the ISS Dome. This extraordinary event in Düsseldorf on the 27th of August last year was recorded without an audience. What’s a live show without you, the fans???

So here it comes – we need your help to make this really special:

The German power metal band, Edguy, never reached the commercial success of other metal bands that helped influenced their sound like Van Halen or Bon Jovi, but they gained a strong, cult following due to their catchy songwriting abilities and powerful performances.

Edguy entered the music scene in the ‘90s when grunge music was starting to take over the airwaves and metal was stepping into a different direction. Edguy had all the style and delivery of a ‘80s glam rock band, but they were displaced in a different generation then that style. Edguy presented their music with the catchy, simple chord progressions that made the power metal genre so accessible and fun to listen to. They had a large, grandiose sound that contained elaborate orchestral elements that gave the band’s sound a triumphant aspect to their music that was highly emotive. Their music often contained synths that created an ambience to their music as well as catchy leads that would be expected to be heard from bands like Europe. The lead vocalist, Tobias Sammet, has an operatic like voice that is highly rich and epic. Jens Ludwig is greatly skilled in playing his guitar and is able to shred his guitar using interesting techniques like finger tapping.

When looking at Edguy you would immediately think that they were a band that came straight out of the ‘80s. They sported long, feathery hair and black leather pants with biker jackets. Their live performances consisted of a stage filled with fog and strobe lights flashing all over the stage. When seeing them live you can expect them to whip out most of their epic songs like “Painting on the Wall” and “Lavatory Love Machine”. If you are the kind of person who admires a true and detailed representation of ‘80s metal at its finest, then Edguy will be sure to blow you away with their powerful performance.
