Disney Cruise Line’s Halloween on the High Seas 2022 Dates & Details

Halloween on the High Seas will return to Disney Cruise Line with more sailings than ever before and new one-of-a-kind experiences for families in September and October 2022. Guest-favorite entertainment and activities, including trick-or-treating, spooky parties, elaborate décor and themed food and beverage items, will await guests on these limited-time voyages as each ship transforms into a ghoulish wonderland.

Halloween on the High Seas voyages will be offered aboard select Disney Cruise Line sailings aboard the Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, plus the new Disney Wish ship. Sail dates occur from September 12, 2022 through early November 2022, including a flagship 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral aboard the Disney Wish that starts on Halloween. These sailings depart from ports in Miami and Port Canaveral, Florida plus San Diego, California and New York City, New York.

Each cruise will take families to fascinating destinations including the Bahamas, Caribbean, California, Bermuda, Canada, and Mexico. All sailings from Port Canaveral and Miami will include a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise outfitted for family fun and relaxation and brimming with special Disney touches, including the following DCL fan favorites…

First up is Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party. Guests of all ages won’t want to miss this spooktacular event. The atrium in each Disney Cruise Line ship will come alive with ghoulish games, trick-or-treating, and dancing, plus the famous Disney characters in their Halloween costumes.

Next up is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream. It’s “Season’s Screamings” during this interactive movie experience—with Jack Skellington and Sally greeting guests plus a special interactive Sing and Scream experience featuring the classic film, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Up on deck, check out the campfire-style Haunted Stories of the Sea, featuring a spooky ghost story or two. Additionally, Halloween-themed movies will be shown on Funnel Vision by the family pool and in staterooms.

Other fun family activities during Halloween on the High Seas include mask-making, pumpkin-carving, and a ghostly takeover of Disney Cruise Line ship announcements. Guests will also enjoy special Halloween-themed food and beverage items during rotational dining and elsewhere in DCL restaurants.

Finally, proving that Halloween isn’t just for kids , adults will have their fun and (not-so) frightful festivities. Adult-exclusive venues across the fleet will become a ghoulish setting for costume contests and a Villainous Takeover on the dance floor.

In terms of what’s new for 2022, Disney Cruise Line guests will be the first to experience an all-new character meet and greet opportunity across the fleet during Halloween on the High Seas sailings.

While all of the Disney characters on board will adorn Halloween costumes as part of the festivities, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Clarabelle Cow will debut a never-before-seen look as they dress up as their favorite Halloween sisters, the Sandersons from the movie “Hocus Pocus.”

During its inaugural season of Halloween cruises in Fall 2022, the Disney Wish, the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, will introduce a unique twist on a Halloween on the High Seas hallmark.

The centerpiece of every ship during Halloween sailings is the signature magical Pumpkin Tree towering over the atrium lobby, each with sprouting Jack-O-Lanterns and flickering lights.

Aboard the Disney Wish, guests will witness the debut of an all-new Pumpkin Tree in the “Cinderella”-inspired Grand Hall. Featuring lighter bark, graceful branches and a mystical face, this enchanted tree that grew perfect gourds with the help of a Wishing Star at night produced the perfect pumpkin that became the coach that carried Cinderella to the Prince’s Ball.

In terms of commentary, this all sounds pretty fun. In particular, the Disney characters as the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus looks awesome. We’d love to see much more of these Disney character costume crossovers, and really miss the ones they used to do for Star Wars Weekends.

(Side note: since Disney bought Lucasfilm, they’ve been treating the franchise with way too much reverence. It’s a soap opera in outer space populated by ridiculous aliens and a variety of nonsense. There’s nothing wrong with a little fun! This is the type of synergy to embrace!)

We’re also keeping our excitement and expectations in check, as we previously did one of DCL’s Christmas cruises, and it was a bit underwhelming. (See our Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise Review .) Perhaps that was simply a matter of unrealistic expectations–something we probably don’t have to as great of a degree when it comes to Halloween.

From our perspective, the Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise would’ve been better with a holiday-themed deck party, substantive stage show, daytime entertainment, themed menus & desserts, scavenger hunt, and more decorations. It doesn’t sound like Halloween on the High Seas has any of this, either.

With that said, we’ve done other themed sailings aboard Disney Cruise Line and have really enjoyed them. Both Frozen and Star Wars Day at Sea were really fun, but again, we went in without any expectations. By contrast, we’ve experienced Christmas (and Halloween, for that matter) at Walt Disney World.

Ultimately, Halloween on the High Seas sounds like a lot of fun, and we’re glad to see Disney Cruise Line bringing it back for 2022. Several of the itineraries out of San Diego are actually on our “list” of cruises to do/places to visit, but whether we actually follow through on that this year remains to be seen, and is likely a matter of discount availability (or lack thereof). It’s already shaping up to be a pricey return to cruising for us with the Disney Wish launching, so maybe we’ll take a rain check until Halloween on the High Seas 2023.

We’ve done the Halloween cruise once and I agree with you when you say temper your expectations. The pumpkin tree is cute, but the character appearances and activities are pretty fleeting, blink and you miss it, and it all feels a bit anemic compared to Halloween in the parks where the decorations are so abundant.

I absolutely love Clarabelle, Minnie, & Daisy as the Sanderson Sisters! So cute! We booked quasi (weekend in between to get from Port Canaveral to Miami) back to back cruises on the Wish & the Dream ages ago, when they first released and the prices were pretty good so we bit. Those sailings were later announced as Halloween on the High Seas, which sounded fun. But now I’m super excited. And while I’ve gone off WDW with all the nickel & dime-ing, we have 2 days of complimentary tickets to use up before they expire, so we’ll hit up MK for MNSSHP as well. It’s a big ticket price, but since our other two days are free… I do have one question about that though. We’ll be there for a Sunday & a Tuesday. Turns out the Tuesday is the first $159 priced party though. We could go on the Sunday & save $20 per ticket, but you recommend the Tuesday party to have fewer locals. Won’t early October parties sell out regardless? Would you pay the extra & go on the Tuesday? Please be honest, as an extra $40 for the two of us won’t break the bank. Thanks for any insight you can offer. And thanks for this post & the other Halloween ones today. It was great to wake up to your email with all the news!

I would just do Sunday in that case. They’re both weeknights and you get to save the money, with a decently strong probability that both will sell out.

With that said, I would expect a lot of people to have the same line of thinking as you, so if (for some reason) demand is somehow much weaker this year, that Sunday party will likely be the busier of the two, as tourists with weeklong trips will target that last cheap night.

Thanks for that Tom. Makes sense. And I got to thinking that logistically it’s better for us to do the Tuesday. I plan to linger after the party until the last possible moment so won’t get to be until well after 1am, but want to rope drop EPCOT Monday morning, whereas on the Wednesday we have an early afternoon flight home, so can linger in bed longer. My only fear is that if the fireworks get cancelled we miss it. Whereas if we go Sunday, there is always a “chance” of getting another party ticket for the Tuesday. Do the fireworks get cancelled often at MK? (It happened to us once at the DL Halloween Party). Also, are the stage shows cancelled in the rain? Does Disney have a plan B? I would not be happy to pay $159 and not get the entertainment! Hmmm…

Disney Cruise Line has announced the return of its Halloween on the High Seas voyages this September and October.

Activities and entertainment will include trick-or-treating, spooky parties, holiday décor, and themed foods and beverages.

New Character Looks

Disney guests will be the first to experience an all-new character meet and greet opportunity fleet-wide during the Halloween cruises.

All of the Disney characters on board will adorn Halloween costumes as part of the festivities, but Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Clarabelle Cow will specifically debut brand-new costumes as they dress up as the Sanderson sisters from the movie “Hocus Pocus.”

New Pumpkin Tree on Disney Wish

During its inaugural season of Halloween cruises this fall, the brand-new Disney Wish will introduce a unique twist on the classic Pumpkin Tree — the centerpiece of every vessel during Halloween sailings.

Traditionally, the tree features sprouting Jack-O-Lanterns and flickering lights as it transforms throughout the voyage.

Halloween on the High Seas will be returning to Disney Cruise Line later in 2023 with exciting decorations and characters on themed sailings!

Disney has been celebrating Halfway to Halloween all week with exciting updates and announcements. In the parks this week, you can pick up specially themed treats to celebrate halfway to the spooky season. And today, we got the news that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will return to Magic Kingdom, along with Oogie Boogie Bash in Disneyland. And if you’re planning on taking a Disney Cruise later this year, you’ll be happy to hear that Halloween on the High Seas will be returning to Disney Cruise Line!

Halloween on the High Seas are specially themed Halloween sailings that are available fleet-wide for Disney Cruise Line. This year, Halloween on the High Seas will return to Disney Cruises in September, with specially themed costumes for characters and fun decorations. Below are some of my experiences on the Halloween Disney cruise , along with information to help you discover if a Halloween on the High Seas cruise is right for you!

What is Halloween on the High Seas?

Halloween on the High Seas is a Disney Cruise Line exclusive Halloween-themed sailing. Setting sail in mid-September through October, this season of extra-special sailings will bring the fun of Halloween to guests on select cruises across the entire DCL fleet. Guests can dress up in their Halloween costumes and join Disney characters in theirs! You can also find dance parties throughout the ships; enjoy a variety of themed food and beverages; and immerse yourself in a ghostly ship takeover with elaborate décor and the magical Pumpkin Tree!

When looking closer at the specially themed cruises, Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime cruises are the only savings that completely change the cruise experience. The other special Days at Sea are just that, Days at Sea. So your entire cruise will not be themed around the day, it will just be one day of the sailing that will be a special theme.

The only times of the year this happens are on Halloween for Halloween on the High Seas and at Christmas time for the Very Merrytime Cruises . And when I say complete overhaul for these special cruises, I mean it! Along with pumpkins, bats, and spider decorations, the ships also offer themed activities and specialty characters in Halloween-themed costumes! NEWS: Disney Cruise Line Releases Details on 2022 Halloween and Holiday Cruises

The magic of the holidays returns to Disney Cruise Line in the fall of 2022 with Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime Cruises across the fleet, including the first fall season on the all-new Disney Wish. With cruises departing from Florida, New York, Texas, and California, guests will have many opportunities to experience holidays at sea with Disney Cruise Line. Learn more below.

1 – Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime Cruises

“With five ships setting sail in fall 2022 from different homeports around the country, we are excited to offer more ways than ever before for families to make special memories with Disney Cruise Line,” said Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Cruise Line.

Halloween on the High Seas returns to Disney Cruise Line in mid-September through October 2022. On select sailings across the fleet, guests can dress up and join Disney characters in their Halloween costumes at Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party; enjoy themed food, beverages and crafts; and immerse themselves in a ghostly ship takeover with elaborate decor and a magical Pumpkin Tree.

From early November through December, the Disney Cruise Line fleet is decked from bow-to-stern with holiday cheer and entertainment during Very Merrytime Cruises. Holiday magic is unwrapped for the whole family with festive holiday decor, favorite characters in their finest holiday attire and a special visit from none other than Santa Claus.

2 – Tropical Escapes from Florida

In fall 2022, the Disney Wish and Disney Fantasy will embark on guest-favorite itineraries out of Port Canaveral, Florida, while the Disney Dream continues to sail from Miami.

The Disney Wish will continue its inaugural season with its first-ever fall and holiday sailings, offering a series of three- and four-night voyages to the Bahamas, while the Disney Fantasy will offer six-, seven- and eight-night vacations to the eastern and western Caribbean.

The Disney Dream will take guests on four- and five-night Bahamian itineraries and five-night Caribbean cruises to either Grand Cayman or Cozumel, Mexico.

All sailings from Port Canaveral and Miami will include a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise outfitted for family fun and relaxation and brimming with special Disney touches.

3 – Caribbean Cruises from San Juan

The Disney Magic will sail out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, for two special itineraries in early November. A seven-night southern Caribbean sailing will visit Antigua, St. Lucia, Aruba and Bonaire, while a following six-night voyage will feature stops in St. Thomas and Falmouth, Jamaica.

4 – Baja Penisula Voyages from California

Spooktacular sailings return to California in late September with Halloween on the High Seas cruises to the Baja Peninsula from San Diego. The Disney Wonder will host three-, four-, five- and seven-night vacations from southern California, allowing guests to celebrate the Halloween season at sea while taking in the mesmerizing beauty of Mexico.

5 – Sailings to Bermuda and Canada from New York

The Disney Magic returns to New York in late September for a series of Halloween on the High Seas sailings to Bermuda and Canada. Guests can visit Bermuda’s pink sand beaches and colorful coral reefs on five-night vacations or set their sights for a special six-night cruise to the Canadian ports of New Brunswick and Halifax that includes a stop in Bar Harbor, Maine.

6 – Vacations to Bahamas and Caribbean from Texas

The Disney Magic will visit Galveston, Texas, in late November for a variety of five- and seven-night Very Merrytime Cruises. How to Order a Disney Cruise Line Room Decor Package

If you want to add a little extra pixie dust to your Disney Cruise Line room, you can order a Disney Cruise Line room decor package through Onboard Gifts .

And it’s not only room decor! You can order Birthday Cakes, jewelry, sweets and snacks, alcohol, Star Wars and Marvel themed gifts and more. if you’re not the one sailing, you can also surprise a friend or family member with any of these options!

All packages and gifts must be ordered at least 3 days in advance of sail date. You can browse gift and room decor options with a reservation number or by port as some options may be different.

Personally I’d rather spend my money on a room decor package to take home some souvenirs, because there is so much food and desserts on board the ships! Or I’d splurge on Palo Brunch as it’s my favorite meal.

Disney Cruise Line Announces Halloween and Christmas Cruises for 2022

Celebrate Disney style on these holiday cruises next year.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas… for Disney Cruise Line, at least.

Summer may be in full swing, but the family-friendly cruise line is looking ahead to next year's Halloween and Christmas sailings with magical celebrations, the company shared with Travel + Leisure .

To start, Disney will celebrate "Halloween on the High Seas" with cruises from mid-September 2022 through October, inviting guests to dress up in their spookiest costumes for Mickey's Mouse-querade Party. Passengers will enjoy themed food and drinks and even experience a "ghostly ship takeover" complete with a magical Pumpkin Tree.

In early November 2022 through December, the cruise line will transform its ships to celebrate "Very Merrytime Cruises." Holiday-themed decor and Disney characters decked out in their holiday best will welcome guests while a special visit from the big man himself will ensure everyone's wish gets granted.

As part of the holiday season, Disney plans to sail its brand-new ship, the Disney Wish , on fall voyages from Port Canaveral, Florida, heading out on 3- and 4-night cruises to the Bahamas and stopping at the company's private island, Castaway Cay . To celebrate in style, passengers can book the one-of-a-kind suite in the ship's forward funnel.

"With five ships setting sail in fall 2022 from different homeports around the country, we are excited to offer more ways than ever before for families to make special memories with Disney Cruise Line," Thomas Mazloum, the president of Disney Cruise Line, said in a statement provided to T+L.

Earlier this month, Disney received approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to begin test cruises for volunteers. The company has not announced a vaccine requirement to board its U.S. ships, but will require guests 18 and older to be vaccinated before embarking on its planned UK sailings on the Disney Magic .

In addition to its holiday sailings, Disney has announced it will cruise to new destinations in the summer of 2022, including new ports in Greece, Portugal, Latvia, Norway, Sweden, and Dominica.

‘Set a course for adventure ‘? Sounds like copyright infringement. Direct quote from the Love Boat theme which belongs to Princess cruises. Surprising since Disney is so protective of their brand.Just reinforces my feelings that imagination is dead.

kkDid you get Scotts prices or DCL prices that were more?

There is false information on this sight as the cruise line prices are different. the set sail package is 85.00 plus tax making it 90.95. scott shows only 70.00 You can order by phone with long hold wait.

I would not call the information false, I’d say it is out of date if indeed the prices are now different. The prices listed are the price that were listed the day these were online back in mid-May.

I just called the number suggested above (1-800-601-8455, press option 1 for website help)) and was able purchase the comfort set on the phone. The agent had to hunt a little to find the merchandise number but was able to locate it. The prices have gone up since they were initially announced (now $89 vs $74). Good luck!

I can’t even get into the onboard gifts site to order or see anything. But called and got the set sail decor.

Just remember that the prices have changed. The lower the stock, the higher the price.

The prices have definitely changed. I just ordered the celebration room decorations package and it’s now just over $101 with tax

I was able to order the “set sail” package today by calling. The castmember had to search for it. The price today was $90.95.

Halloween and Christmas on Disney Cruise Line: Here’s What You Need to Know

Disney Cruise Line offers a number of special sailings, with enhancements above and beyond the normal cruise experience. Two of the most popular special sailings are Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime.

Halloween on the High Seas Cruises

Halloween on the High Seas sailings take place on every Disney Cruise Line ship. Halloween-themed cruise typically take place from mid-September until the ship’s sailing that includes October 31. You can search for Halloween sailings by visiting the “Our Ships” tab on the Disney Cruise Line website and scroll down to the “Themed and Holiday Cruises” section.

You can verify that a cruise will be Halloween-themed by looking for the Halloween banners on the sailing listing.

Components of Halloween Cruises include:

Changes to ship decor. Each ship has version of a “pumpkin tree” that fills much of the lobby atrium. There will often be one night with a ceremony that brings the tree to “life.” Often ship portholes are filled with Jack-O-Lantern faces and the atrium railings are festooned with orange and black bunting.
Changes to ship music. Instead of standard Disney tunes, you’re likely to hear songs like “Monster Mash” piped into the ship’s public areas.
Characters. Many of the Disney characters on the ship will appear in costume. (I’m going to pretend you didn’t just think to yourself, “Aren’t they always in costume?”) Some variations occur from year to year, but often Mickey and Minnie are dressed as a wizard and witch, Goofy is often King Tut, Chip & Dale are often comical thieves.
Onboard activities. Some of the normal onboard craft sessions will have a Halloween twist. For example, a character drawing class will have the character in a Halloween setting. Trivia sessions might include a Halloween trivia game. There might be face painting or temporary tattoos available.
Guest costumes. Typically one day of the cruise will have a costume party or parade called something like a “Mouse-querade party.” Kids and adults are welcome to dress up, but there are a bunch of rules about acceptable costuming. For example, you’re not allowed to carry anything that looks like a weapon, you can’t dress exactly like a regular character (no Cinderella replicas, for example), and you can’t wear non-medical masks when you’re walking around. Be sure to check the DCL website for specifics. Costumes are absolutely NOT required. If dressing up is not your thing, you don’t have to participate in dress-up activities.
Trick or Treating. Kids will be invited to visit trick-or-treat stations during one day of the sailing.
Food and drink. The drink-of-the-day will likely have spooky name and a few of the offerings in Cabanas (or Marceline Market on the Wish) might include pumpkin.
Movies. The selection of films shown on the Funnelvision screens or in the onboard theaters typically includes Halloween-themed Disney films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas , Halloweentown , or Hocus Pocus .
Merchandise. There will be some Halloween-themed merchandise for sale in the onboard shops.
Photo backgrounds. Some of the onboard photo backgrounds will have Halloween themeing.

Very Merrytime Cruises

Fun fact: the word “merrytime” in the Very Merrytime name for DCL’s holiday cruises is a play on the word “Maritime” meaning “connected to the sea.”

Merrytime cruises typically start in mid-November and end with the last sailing of each ship that includes December 25. If you’re on a New Year’s Eve cruise, the Christmas decor will still be up, but it won’t have the Merrytime designation. You can verify that you’re booking a Merrytime cruise by looking for the ornament and light illustrated banner on the listing for your sailing.

Components of Merrytime Cruises include:

Changes to ship decor. Each ship will have a giant Christmas tree that fills much of the lobby atrium, which will also feature a life-sized gingerbread house. The atrium railings are festooned with faux pine boughs and holiday ornaments. Additional trees will appear in nearly every public corner of the ship – and even on Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.
Changes to ship music. Instead of standard Disney tunes, you’re likely to hear songs like “Jingle Bells” piped into the ship’s public areas.
Characters. Many of the Disney characters on the ship will appear in wintery variations of their usual clothes – think cozy scarves and hats. On some sailings, you may have the opportunity to meet Santa.
Onboard activities. Some of the normal onboard craft sessions will have a Christmas twist. For example, a character drawing class will have the character in a Christmas setting. Trivia sessions might include a Christmas trivia game. There will often be one night with holiday storytelling.
Stateroom gifts. For sailings that actually include Christmas day, guests will likely receive a small gift in their stateroom such as candy or a print of the ship.
Food and drink. The drink-of-the-day will likely have festive name and a few of the offerings in Cabanas (or Marceline Market on the Wish) might include red and green embellishments.
Movies. The selection of films shown on the Funnelvision screens or in the onboard theaters typically includes Christmas-themed Disney films such as Mickey’s Christmas Carol .
Merchandise. There will be some holiday-themed merchandise for sale in the onboard shops.
Photo backgrounds. Some of the onboard photo backgrounds will have Christmas themeing.
Religious observances. The ship will typically hold a midnight mass on Christmas Eve as well as Catholic and non-denominational services on Christmas morning, all in the Walt Disney theater, check your Navigator app for exact times. The ship lobby will have a Jewish menorah and a Kwanzaa Kinara placed somehere and there will be brief lighting events during sailings that include these holidays, but expect that these celebrations will be dwarfed by all things Christmas. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, you’ll have to consider how you’ll feel about the pervasive merriment.

What is the Pricing Like?

There is no specific upcharge for the enhancements on these cruises. With a tiny handful of exceptions, all the holiday perks are included with the price of your cruise. Prices related more to the date of the sailings rather than the holiday overlay. For example, sailings during the first two weeks of December include all the Christmas decor, music, food, and more, but the prices are very reasonable. Rates go up as more children have their holiday school vacations and the cruises that actually include Christmas can be quite pricey.
