Chris Rock Plots First Stand-Up Tour in Five Years

By Larisha Paul

Larisha Paul

After a five-year break, Chris Rock is making his return to the live comedy circuit with the Ego Death world tour. The trek — which will begin with a 38-date North American leg — marks Rock’s first run since his Total Blackout stand-up tour in 2017 and 2018 (at the time, that was his first tour in nearly a decade).

The Ego Death tour will begin April 2 with two shows at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The current slate of dates includes stops in Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Toronto, Denver, Oakland, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and more. He’ll also play New York’s Radio City Music Hall in October and follow that show with performances in Chicago, Vancouver, and Washington D.C. before wrapping Nov. 17 in Los Angeles at the Dolby Theatre. Ticket sales begin Friday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster .

In the half-decade he’s spent off the road, Rock found creative outlets in film and TV. Last year, he joined the cast of Fargo as Loy Cannon in the show’s fourth season and starred alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Marisol Nichols in Spiral , the ninth installment of the Saw film series.

But as Rock noted in an interview with Esquire last year, he’s always thinking ahead and has kept a journal of ideas for over three decades. “You read it over, and you’re like, Oh, that’s good for stand-up. Or Oh, that would be good for script,” he said. “And then there’s some other shit, you’re like, Oh, when I die, provided I don’t fuck up my career, people are going to think this shit’s really interesting.”

Q:  Do I maintain possession of my phone at all times?

Q:  Will the case affect my phone in any way?

Q:  My ticket is on my phone. What do I do?

A: Printed tickets are preferred for entry, but Yondr staff will be standing by to unlock your phone so you can access your mobile ticket in order to enter the venue.

Q:  I have a babysitter at home OR I am on-call for work — Where can I check my phone? A: Set your phone to vibrate as you enter the venue. You’ll be able to feel your phone vibrate through the Yondr case when you receive calls or texts. You may use your phone throughout the night at designated Phone Use Areas in the lobby of the venue.

Q:  What is a Phone Use Area? A: Guests are able to use their phones at designated Phone Use Areas in the venue. All phones must be secured in a Yondr case before guests re-enter the performance space.

Q:  How do I unlock my phone after the show? A: Yondr staff will be stationed at all exits to unlock your phone at the end of the show.

Q:  Does it take long to unlock the cases and leave the venue? A:  No. Yondr staff are located at each exit to unlock cases. We find that leaving is consistently faster at a phone-free show.

Q:  I didn’t know about the phone policy. What if I don’t want to do this? A: This is the show policy, and as a result we cannot allow entry to any guests with cell phones or smart devices if they are not secured in a Yondr case.

Q:  What happens if there is an emergency in the venue and I can’t access my phone? A: All venue staff and security have cell phones and radios. Should an emergency occur, they are trained to implement and execute safety and emergency procedures. Guests should follow all venue instructions and evacuate immediately in the case of an emergency. Yondr Venue Staff will have hand-held unlocking devices outside at a safe distance from the venue.

Chris Rock at Radio City Music Hall

Radio city music hall, new york city, new york.

Comedy king Chris Rock is hitting the road this 2022 with Ego Death World Tour. Rock is presenting an all-new production and material on his 38-date North American trek, including the Showplace of the Nation, Radio Music City Hall on Friday 7th October 2022! See the comedic icon perform never heard before bits and hilarious transitions. The Ego Death Tour comes after Rock’s five-year touring hiatus. Rock is known for his funny anecdotes from his childhood, bits about politics, and race relations in America. If you love comedy, then this is the show you wouldn’t want to miss! Get your tickets now and see the award-winning stand-up comedian in the flesh at Radio City Music Hall!

After decades in the industry, one would think that Chris Rock’s material and bits would become repetitious and ordinary in an era where new standup comics are coming out with fresh material. However, Rock’s recent Grammy and NAACP nominations just prove that he’s still at the forefront of the standup scene even at fifty-seven years of age. In 2019, Rock was nominated for Best Comedy Album at the 61st Grammy Award for Chris Rock: Tambourine. The standup show received 100% approval ratings from Rotten Tomatoes. USA Today wrote that “Tamborine is rife with political humor and pointed observations on race in Rock's usual style, but the special is mostly about Rock himself, a self-reflective piece in which he owns up to his mistakes.”

His recent guesting at Saturday Night Live also received a nomination from the National Advancement Association of Colored People (NAACP). Rock was a guest on the last episode of Saturday Night Live Season 46. The show featured some past sketches when Rock surprised the show’s producers with a monologue. The opening was the show’s longest for the year, running for about seven minutes, but producers and viewers were not complaining as Rock’s return was very much welcomed.

Rock’s fresh bits at SNL are just the beginning. The comedy king is set to make audiences laugh their heads off on his much-awaited Ego Death World Tour. Tickets are now available. You better grab yours now before it’s too late!

Comedian Chris Rock performs onstage.

2022 may very well be remembered as the year Chris Rock got slapped by Best Actor winner Will Smith at the Oscars.

In 2023, Rock will most likely be remembered for something entirely different though — on Saturday, March 4 at 10 p.m. EST, he will become the first comedian to perform live on Netflix when he takes the stage at an undisclosed venue in Baltimore to record his new special.

Titled “Selective Outrage,” Rock will most likely address the elephant in the room, too.

“People expect me to talk about the bulls–t. I’m not going to talk about it right now. I’ll get to it eventually — on Netflix,” the “Saturday Night Live” alum said at the time .

However, he’s not quite ready for the taping just yet.

To help polish his act, Rock has lined up seven shows from Feb. 3-26 to prepare for his high-stakes, historic Netflix special.

That includes a Feb. 3 gig at Atlantic City’s Borgata Casino Event Center .

And for fans of the the accomplished comic-actor-writer-director, this is the kicker — tickets are still available for all shows before the taping of the special.

Even better, we found some Chris Rock tickets going for under $70 before fees at the time of publication.

Now, here’s where you can find them.

Chris Rock 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar featuring all upcoming Chris Rock tour dates, venues and the cheapest tickets available for each show can be found below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure, and your tickets will be delivered before the event.

Chris Rock specials

Rock is known for meticulously workshopping his material in an effort to perfect it prior to releasing it to the world.

As a result, Rock has a near pristine reputation as a jokesmith who tells it like it is, and if you haven’t seen his iconic work, well, you’re in for a treat.

To help get you up to speed, here’s how you can find each of Rock’s pre-existing specials.

“Big A– Jokes” (1994) can be streamed on YouTube “Bring the Pain” (1996) can be purchased on Amazon “Bigger & Blacker” (1999) can be streamed on HBO “Never Scared” (2004) can be streamed on HBO “Kill the Messenger” (2008) can be streamed on HBO “Tamborine” (2018) can be streamed on Netflix

Note: Some of Rock’s material may be considered NSFW.

Upcoming Chris Rock movies and tv shows

When Rock isn’t tinkering with his jokes, you might be able to find him acting in horror films (2021’s “Spiral”), prestige TV shows (“Fargo”) and of course, comedies (“Top Five,” “CB4,” “2 Days In New York,” “Grown Ups” and “The Week Of”).

Here’s what he has in store in the near future.

“Rustin” tells the story of gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin (played by Colman Domingo), who helped organize the 1963 March on Washington. Rock will be joined by fellow stars Audra McDonald and Jeffrey Wright in the film.

“Kara,” a new TV series, comes from Steppenwolf Theatre alum Anna Shapiro. The two have a fruitful professional relationship as well— in 2011, Rock starred in Shapiro’s critically-acclaimed Broadway show “”The Motherf- – – – – With the Hat.” As of now, plot details for the show are under wraps.

“I Am Maurice” is the inspirational tale of a Haitian immigrant who comes to America after the 2010 earthquake to pursue his boxing dreams. Rock is set to star in the film alongside Leslie Jones and comic Wil Sylvince.

Chris Rock celebrity relationship

Rock has been linked to actress and comedienne Lake Bell as far back as July 2022.

Page Six reported the pair “(left) a dinner date at celebrity hot spot Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, CA.”

You can read more about their whirlwind romance here .

Other comedians on tour in 2023

Chris Rock will return to the stage for his ongoing comedy tour this week, after being slapped by Will Smith on the Oscars stage Sunday night over a joke he made about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The on-screen altercation is one of the most dramatic unplanned events to occur in Academy Awards history, made even more peculiar by Smith accepting the award for best actor less than an hour after his outburst. However, the dramatic moment did seem to inspire some viewers to buy tickets to see Rock perform live; one secondary ticketing marketplace, TickPick , reports that they have sold more tickets to the comedian’s tour overnight than they did in the past month combined. They also claim that ticket prices have surged  since Sunday night, going up from a minimum of $46 per ticket on March 18 to a minimum of $341.

Adam Sandler also took to Twitter on Tuesday to promote Rock’s tour, a clear sign of support for the comedian as debate continues to spark online over who was really in the wrong.  Above campaign imagery for the tour, Sandler wrote: “Can’t wait for this. Love you buddy!”

Rock is set to perform six shows at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre from March 30 through April 1 before officially kicking off his Ego Death World Tour on April 2. While tickets for his Boston shows sold out quickly, there are still tickets available on resale sites such as Vivid Seats , Ticketmaster and Stubhub . The comedian will then travel to more than 30 cities for the North American leg of his tour, which marks the first time in five years that the comic will perform new material across the country.

“Lauded by peers and critics alike, Chris Rock is one of our generation’s strongest comedic voices,” Live Nation said in a statement. “With a career spanning more than three decades, Rock has enjoyed ongoing success in both film and television as a comedian, actor, writer, producer and director.”

Rock currently has 38 dates scheduled for the tour, hitting major cities such as Las Vegas, Denver, Oakland, Seattle, New York, Chicago and Toronto. After Boston, he’ll head to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City for two shows, before wrapping up at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre on Nov. 17.

Things To Do

Music and concerts, subscriber only, music and concerts | orlando fans prepare for rocking rolling stones at camping world stadium.

Thirty years ago, the Windermere resident had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the famed rock and rollers perform at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan during their Voodoo Lounge Tour. Now, the longtime fan is ecstatic that his wife and 10-year-old daughter will have the same experience when they see the Stones perform at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium on June 3 on their Hackney Diamonds Tour .

“I always liked their music, but seeing them live at that show, I had this moment of, ‘Wow, they could play all night long, and we’d never get through their great music catalog,'” Williams said. “They epitomize rock ‘n’ roll. It’s not too heavy; there’s something about the tempo and the groove that speaks to you. They have lots of catchy tunes that have meant something to me over the years.”

While Mick Jagger is still seemingly young and spry as ever, dancing around the stage at 80 years old, the couple recognizes there may come a day when the band isn’t around. That’s why it’s all the more important for their daughter, Julia, to have this experience.

“There’s some stuff you’re always going to remember from your childhood, like the soundtrack of your life,” Sara Williams said. “That’s what she’s going to think of when she’s an adult and we can’t miss this opportunity to let her have this moment. She will be talking about this until she’s in her 50s.”

Even though the rockers originated in London and came to America around the same time the Beatles landed here in 1964, Chad Williams said that the Rolling Stones are a part of Americana.

“Music imprints on our life with what’s going on at the time. I have such wonderful memories of the music that I heard in different stages of my life,” he said. “The Stones mean something to me, and I want to pass that along to my daughter, if possible.”

Part of what makes the Stones so impressive, the Williamses agreed, is their longevity — considering they started as a band 62 years ago and are still releasing new music.

“Keith Richards is going to outlive us all,” Sara said of the Stones’ founding member, guitarist and vocalist, with Chad adding: “Mick Jagger is in impressive shape, that’s for sure.”

The fans expect nostalgia to come flooding in when they attend the Central Florida show.

“I’m expecting a memory of 1994 to come right back to me when we’re in Camping World listening to their music and enjoying it,” Chad Williams said.
