Tour de France, Petacchi: «Vingegaard competitivo, Evenepoel e Ciccone vorranno testarsi»

Nella sua carriera, Alessandro Petacchi ha corso il Tour de France sette volte: se confrontiamo questo dato con le quattordici partecipazioni al Giro d’Italia e con le undici alla Vuelta a España, risulta che la Grande Boucle è il grande giro in cui lo spezzino si è schierato in meno occasioni ai nastri di partenza. Questo, però, non vuol dire che “Ale-jet” non abbia lasciato il segno in terra francese, con sei vittorie di tappa in totale e la maglia verde conquistata nel 2010. con orgoglio posso dire di essere stato compagno di squadra, e in alcune corse anche di stanza, di Mark Cavendish, un campione. Ho vissuto con lui l’avventura alla Quick Step. Al Giro d’Inghilterra 2013 sono stato il suo ultimo uomo e con soddisfazione personale posso dire che in quella corsa lui ha vinto tre tappe. A Mark Cavendish sono legato da questo ricordo personale. E ieri sono stato contentissimo per il nuovo traguardo che ha raggiunto, il record di tappe vinte al Tour de France. Mark nella vita di tutti i giorni è una persona tranquilla, capace in bicicletta di trasformarsi.

There have been very few sprinters as prolific as Alessandro Petacchi, our No. 5 choice among the Greatest Road Sprinters of the past four decades. He turned pro at age 21 in 1996, riding the first four years of his career with a minor Italian team. So it wasn’t until the powerful Fassa Bortolo team signed him in 2000 that he began winning sprints on a regular basis, with a lead-out train that gave the 6-foot, 160-pound Italian the impetus he needed.

His first big victories were two stages  of the Vuelta a España that year…but it wasn’t until 2003, at age 29 that his career really took off. That season, he won six stages of the Giro d’Italia (including this one at Catania on stage 5, taking a heads-down sprint from world champion Mario Cipollini), four stages of the Tour de France and five stages of the Vuelta a España!

Petacchi didn’t have the flamboyance of a Cipollini or the consistency of an Erik Zabel, but he did have perseverance and ambition. Take his favorite classic, Milan–San Remo, whose finale hugs the Ligurian coast, not far from his hometown of La Spezia. He rode this monument no less than 16 times, and at the seventh attempt, after coming in fourth the year before, Petacchi won La Classicisima in 2005, several bike lengths ahead of Danilo Hondo of Germany, Thor Hushovd of Norway and defending champion Oscar Freire of Spain.

That was the only monument he won, though he did win two other sprinters’ classics: France’s Paris–Tours in 2007 and Belgium’s Scheldeprijs in 2009. But the grand tours were Petacchi’s true stomping ground. In all, he won 22 stages at the Giro (the last in 2011 at age 37), 20 stages at the Vuelta and six at the Tour. And he’s one of the rare sprinters to have won the points jersey at all three grand tours.

Now retired, Petacchi (as reported in Gazzetta dello Sport this week) is going to rent out an apartment he owns on the coast at Lido di Camaiore to the peloton’s hottest new sprinter, Colombian Fernando Gaviria, who, like Petacchi, has already won Paris–Tours and has the potential to repeat the Italian’s stage-win successes at the Giro and his victory at Milan–San Remo.

A poche ore dalla partenza della quinta tappa del Tour de France (la Lille Mètropole-Aremberg Porte du Hainaut di 157 km ) abbiamo raggiunto telefonicamente l’ex professionista e oggi commentatore tecnico per la tv di Stato Alessandro Petacchi per stilare un bilancio di queste prime tappe della Grande Boucle:  “E’ il Tour che ci aspettavamo. C’è sempre molto nervosismo e tensione per paura di perdere del tempo prezioso per gli uomini di classifica e per chi vuole cercare di vincere una volata c’è tanta bagarre. Le prime tappe del Tour sono sempre un po’ complicate e la tappa del pavé prima delle montagne può creare molta selezione”. 

Nella cronometro sarebbe stato meglio se Ganna fosse partito più tardi? E’ stato condizionato dalla pioggia?  

“Lui ha detto che gli altri sono andati più forte. Sicuramente la squadra avrà guardato il meteo ma in quei paesi il tempo può cambiare da un momento all’altro. Lampaert comunque a cronometro è sempre andato forte e ha rischiato di più e avendo una fisicità diversa con un baricentro più basso può avere impostato meglio le curve. Ganna è molto alto, le curve le fa molto bene ma avendo baricentro più altro è meno stabile. In un percorso così tecnico come quello della prima tappa non ha vinto il più forte ma quello che ha rischiato di più e ha impostato le curve meglio, un po’ per la pioggia e un po’ per fisicità”.

Quanto può influire la caduta di Dainese in vista delle prossime tappe?  

“Alberto sta facendo una grandissima esperienza e, come mi sono permesso di scrivergli, deve azzardare di più quindi pensare alla sua volata e pensare meno agli altri. Se non hai la squadra per essere in testa ai 250 metri devi un po’ azzardare. La caduta nei giorni successivi si può far sentire un po’ di più ma dipende anche dalla sua gravità. La squadra gli dà fiducia e questo è importante”.

Riuscirà secondo te a centrare una vittoria di tappa e quindi a giocarsela con i migliori velocisti?

“Io glielo auguro. Non ha la squadra che ha la Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl o la Jumbo-Visma e quindi è più difficile per lui mantenere la posizione. Se ha le gambe per partire e rischiare può farlo, provare non costa nulla. E’ giovane, forte e veloce e quindi deve solo crederci di più, ha delle buone potenzialità. Al Giro ha fatto una bella volata lunga e quindi vuol dire che è nelle sue corde, non ha niente da perdere”.

Oggi è in programma la frazione del pavé. Che tappa sarà secondo te?  

“Non tutti sanno andare sul pavé. Al Tour c’è gente che non ha quasi mai pedalato su quelle strade e quindi non sarà facile per quei corridori, specialmente quelli leggeri. Una foratura o un incidente meccanico può compromettere la corsa. Probabilmente la squadra più attrezzata per questa tappa è la Jumbo-Visma che in frazioni come queste vanno sempre molto forte”.

Da Damiano Caruso invece che cosa ti aspetti in ottica di classifica generale?

“Damiano ha una grande esperienza, ha dimostrato di stare bene e ha fatto un programma dedicato al Tour. La squadra ha puntato molto su di lui e quindi secondo me può provare a fare classifica. Damiano è tenace, si difende sempre bene e quindi può fare un buon risultato, magari tra i primi 10 al Tour. Poi sarà la strada a parlare”.

Chi è il tuo favorito per la vittoria finale?  

“Sicuramente Tadej Pogacar è quello che negli ultimi anni ha dimostrato di avere qualcosa in più. La Jumbo invece può giocarsi due carte Roglic e Vingegaard. Sulla carta il favorito è Tadej, cercheranno di metterlo in difficoltà ma ha tutte le carte in regola per poter vincere il terzo Tour”.

In molti hanno detto che al Giro d’Italia c’era un parterre di corridori meno appetibile rispetto al Tour de France. La pensi anche tu così?

“E’ vero. Non guardiamo gli uomini da classifica, per il primi tre il Tour è il grande obiettivo stagionale. All’interno di ogni squadra ci sono i migliori e hanno fatto un avvicinamento ad hoc per questo appuntamento. Il livello al Tour è molto alto in tutto il gruppo, non solo tra gli uomini di classifica”.

Tour de France 2024, i telecronisti e i commentatori su Rai ed Eurosport: chi racconta la corsa in tv

I telecronisti e i commentatori del Tour de France 2024 , in programma dal 29 giugno al 21 luglio per tre settimane che promettono emozioni e spettacolo. La sfida più attesa è quella tra Tadej Pogacar e Jonas Vingegaard, con l’Italia come teatro delle prime quattro giornate per una “Grande Partenza” senza precedenti in 110 precedenti edizioni della Grande Boucle. Anche l’arrivo sarà molto particolare, visto che il Tour si chiuderà a Nizza nell’anno delle Olimpiadi di Parigi. Gli appassionati avranno modo di seguire la corsa in diretta tv sia sulle reti Rai che su Eurosport, ma chi sarà a commentare il Tour 2024? Scopriamolo subito insieme.

In realtà i team di commento resteranno gli stessi già presenti al Giro d’Italia. Ecco quindi che sulla Rai il commento sarà affidato a Stefano Rizzato insieme alla voce tecnica di Davide Cassani , rientrato proprio per la Corsa Rosa dopo oltre dieci anni lontano dalla cabina di commento. La televisione di stato potrà poi sfruttare la voce di Giada Borgato, che sarà presente in corsa sulla motocronaca Rai per seguire da pochi metri i corridori. Inoltre il commento tecnico sarà arricchito dalla presenza di un ex corridore del calibro di Alessandro Petacchi che insieme a Francesco Pancani sarà presente durante Tour Replay.

Sulle reti Eurosport e Discovery+ invece tocca ancora alla collaudatissima e apprezzata coppia composta da Luca Gregorio e Riccardo Magrini , che ormai da anni raccontano il grande ciclismo sull’emittente satellitare. I due avranno poi come ulteriore voce uno tra Moreno Moser e Wladimir Belli, che come sempre si alterneranno nelle varie tappe. Inoltre Eurosport a livello europeo avrà alcuni “talent” direttamente in corsa: al Giro d’Italia si sono per esempio alternati Jens Voigt, Daniel Oss e Adam Blythe.

Alessandro Petacchi – “I was only thinking of the points...”

“I’ve won two stages and I’m very happy and I want this jersey. It’s difficult to keep the green in Paris, I think, because Cavendish is very fast and it’s possible that he will win one more stage and it’s important for me to do a good sprint in Paris. “I’m very tired after the Pyrenees and I’m a little sick. I’ve taken some antibiotic and that’s making me more tired but today I was still in the race. I started my sprint from a long way out and the headwind made it very difficult to go… but I couldn’t stop because I was thinking of the points for the green jersey. I saw Hushovd near the finish line and I knew he was still able to get points but I had to keep trying. “Today I saw I would lose the stage to Cavendish – he is so quick – but I still wanted second place because it makes a difference for the green jersey.”

Sc Padovani, il ritorno: Alessandro Petacchi è il team manager

Alejet lancia la linea biancoverde: “vogliamo diventare un trampolino di lancio per i giovani talenti del ciclismo italiano”.

Un ritorno atteso per 40 anni. La Sc Padovani 1909 , realtà patavina con una storia gloriosa alle spalle, che contempla 11 medaglie olimpiche (di cui 4 ori) e 14 titoli mondiali, si prepara a tornare nel mondo dilettantistico. Galdino Peruzzo , presidente della società padovana, ha lavorato in concerto con i vicepresidenti, l’ex professionista Alberto Ongarato e Martino Scarso , per rendere realtà un sogno che cullava ormai da qualche tempo. Dal 2025, la Sc Padovani sarà ai nastri di partenza della categoria dilettanti, schierando una squadra che ha già ottenuto il parere favorevole dalla Commissione FCI-Lega per la licenza UCI Continental.

Un pool di sponsor per un progetto ambizioso

Supportato da un pool di sponsor avente come capofila Polo Ristorazioni , ma che potrà contare anche sulla collaborazione di importanti brand internazionali e sul sodalizio stretto con la Fausto Coppi Gazzera Videa di Renato Marin , il nuovo e ambizioso progetto del gruppo padovano ha preso forma attorno al nome di Alessandro Petacchi . Con 187 successi conquistati in ambito professionistico, tra cui 27 vittorie di tappa al Giro d’Italia , 20 alla Vuelta , 6 al Tour de France , una Milano-Sanremo , una Parigi-Tours e la maglia di leader della classifica a punti in tutti e tre i grandi giri, AleJet è uno dei nomi vincenti del ciclismo nazionale. Potrebbe essere la persona giusta nel posto giusto, attraverso la quale rinverdire gli antichi fasti della Sc Padovani. A lui spetterà il delicato compito del team manager. 

Le parole di Petacchi e uno staff tecnico di professionisti

“Per me si tratta di una nuova sfida in un ruolo diverso da quello che ho svolto fino ad oggi”,  ha spiegato Petacchi, “Quando è arrivata la telefonata, non ci ho pensato due volte e ho detto subito sì perché conosco Alberto e la dirigenza della Sc Padovani. Non ci nascondiamo, vogliamo creare un team che diventi subito un punto di riferimento per la categoria e che possa fungere da trampolino di lancio per i giovani talenti del ciclismo italiano”.

Quello di Petacchi non è l’unico nome di “grido” ufficializzato dalla società biancoverde. Il direttore sportivo sarà infatti Franco Lampugnani  (ex UC Trevigiani), tecnico di rinomata esperienza, che ha seguito in passato Asja e Soraya Paladin , insieme a Marco Coledan , e cresciuto tra gli altri Andrea Vendrame e Francesco Lamon . Ma un altro  ex professionista compare nei quadri tecnici societari. È Pier Marino Rosti , oggi apprezzato mental coach, che ha lavorato peraltro con team di assoluto livello come Astana e Bahrain Victorious . Per quanto riguarda ancora il fronte tecnico, toccherà a Paolo Slongo fornire consulenza per allenamenti e test di valutazione, mentre il settore medico si avvarrà del dottor Carlo Guardascione , attuale collaboratore della formazione World Tour Team Jayco AlUla , a cui è stato affidato l’incarico di medico sociale della Sc Padovani.

Petacchi Sprints to Stage 4 Victory

Alessandro Petacchi, 36, quiets detractors who said the "old man" just got lucky at Stage 1.

Reims, France:

“I’ve never felt younger!” said Alessandro Petacchi shortly after he scored his second stage victory in the 2010 Tour de France . And certainly he is sprinting like a rider 10 years his younger in this year’s race.

Coming into the Tour, all eyes were on young sprinters like American Tyler Farrar or British sensation Mark Cavendish. Instead it has been the old man of the sprint, the 36-year-old Petacchi, who has won the two mass sprints so far.

On the crash-laden final that was Stage 1, Petacchi came out clean and cruised across the finish line in Brussels for his first Tour de France win in seven years. While some considered his victory a matter of circumstance, he calmed any skeptics today by simply powering ahead of the field in a crash-free final.

“Today’s victory proved that I didn’t just get lucky at Stage 1,” Petacchi said. “And it also proved that I’m not the ‘old man’ some of you call me.”

Indeed, Petacchi is experiencing a kind of renaissance at this year’s race. After all, it has been 10 years since he replaced countryman Mario Cipollini as the world’s most revered sprinter. But after winning four stages at the 2003 Tour de France, his career suddenly stalled, at least by Tour de France standards. He crashed out early in the 2004 race and never returned. Instead he concentrated on his native Tour of Italy and raced on a number of teams that did not focus on the Tour or worse, did not even qualify for the great French race.

But this year, racing for the Lampre team, he decided it was time to return. It would be the perfect challenge, he said, after so many years.

“My career has spanned three generations of sprinters,” he said. “I started with Cipollini, then raced when Robbie McEwen was at the top and now with the Cavendish generation. Although I could be beat by any of these riders, I could also hold my own.”

In the other grand tours, his record is significant. He has won 19 stages in the Tour of Spain and 21 in the Tour of Italy. Though his record at the Tour de France pales in comparison, it is improving by the day in this year’s race. He now has six career stage wins.

“I’m really happy to be here,” Petacchi added. “I’m 36 now and I didn’t know how I would do in the Tour. I had some doubts. But not now, I couldn’t be happier.”

One rider that is not surprised by Petacchi’s success is Garmin-Transitions rider Julian Dean, the New Zealand sprinter who finished second to him at Stage 4 today in Reims.

“Obviously, he is a great athlete and the stages here have been ideal scenarios,” Dean told Bicycling. “Both sprints have been slightly uphill and he is best in a situation where he can really wind up a sprint for a long way because he can really hold his speed.”

Brimming with confidence, Petacchi knows that the following two stages offer additional possibilities. But he is making no predictions. Both Farrar and Cavendish have been slowed by crashes and are still finding their legs. Clearly though, Petacchi has already found his. “I may not be the fastest sprinter. But I am at this moment.”

Si è messo in luce per la sua abilità di sprinter, che gli ha consentito di ottenere 178 vittorie, tra cui 27 tappe al Giro d'Italia (cinque delle quali revocate a causa della squalifica di un anno per la sua positività al salbutamolo, riscontrata durante il Giro del 2007), 6 al Tour de France e 20 alla Vuelta de España. Alessandro Petacchi given two-year doping ban and results disqualified

Alessandro Petacchi has been given a two-year ban for doping violations dating back to 2012 and 2013, with the Italian stripped of his results during that period.

The UCI announced that the decision was made based on information received from law enforcement authorities in Austria, who have been leading the Operation Aderlass doping investigation.

Petacchi has been sanctioned with a period of ineligibility for two years due to use of prohibited methods/substances despite having retired in 2015 after the Giro d'Italia.

He has also had his results between 2012-2013 disqualified, although in that period he only registered wins at Bayern-Rundfahrt, winning three stages and claiming the points classification.

In May riders were pulled from the Giro and Tour of California after the UCI published names linked to Operation Aderlass. Kristijan Koren (Bahrain-Merida) and Kristijan Durasek (UAE Team Emirates) were two riders named alongside Bahrain-Merida assistant sports director Borut Božič.

At the time Petacchi denied involvement in the blood doping investigation, despite allegations being published in European newspapers. However, the Italian was immediately suspended by the UCI and given seven days to provide an initial defence and had to halt working for Italian broadcaster RAI at the Giro d'Italia.

According to a press release translated from Italian, Petacchi rejects the doping allegations but choose to close the case to avoid legal expenses while also taking into consideration the health of his wife.

Despite retiring in 2015, two years after he retired as a lead sprinter and terminated his contract with Lampre-Merida, Petacchi has ridden a UCI event this year, the South African Cape Epic mountain bike race.

During his career, the 45-year-old won six stages at the Tour de France, 22 Giro stages, and 20 Vuelta a España victories, as well as the points classification in all three races. He also took one-day victories at Milan-San Remo in 2005, Paris-Tours in 2007 and Schelderprijs in 2009.

The Italian previously served a nine-month ban for a positive test for salbutamol in 2007. The court later said he had not cheated on purpose but had not taken enough care when taking his asthma drug.
