Zumba® Classes Yoga/Pilates Classes

We have fitness classes on our sea days which are Friday and Sunday.  9am-4pm.  

Starting with yoga and some body work, we roll into Zumba® and burn off any cruise calories.  Enjoy your lunch hour and we get together again for some late afternoon classes.  

Attend as many as you like!

 All of our instructors are licensed and experienced.

Cozumel, Mexico

Sunday dinner & costume party.

Enjoy your day in Cozumel!   There are options for everyone including beaches and resort visits by the day, shopping, snorkeling & diving, cave and eco tours, ATV rides and zip lines.   Excursions generally leave early so no fitness classes this day.  We recommend you book your excursion prior to our cruise via the Royal Caribbean website, so you don't wait in line on the ships concierge.

We meet at a designated location and promenade to dinner together!  We always make quite a splash, by now everyone on ship knows who we are!  Costume theme to be announced.

(Participation is not required - costumes optional of course!)

Other dinner nights, Thursday, Friday and Saturday your regular cruise wear is fine.  Some people do pack a nice dinner outfit and some stay casual.  Your choice.

Meet Steve, the owner of Barracuda Travel, he has driven us back and forth to Ports all over Florida.   He picks us up in the studio parking lot at ZumbaSarasota.com 4900 Fruitville Rd. Sarasota, FL 34232 at approx 10am EST on Thursday the 6th and returns us to the same place on Monday morning the 10th.  

This year we are excited to again have a bus departing from Punta Gorda for Robert's group.  Pick up will be at the Punta Gorda YMCA at approx 9am on the 6th.

We usually are back at both locations on Monday between 10 and 11am.

Bus Details

If you are looking for a quiet ride over to the Port of Tampa, our bus may not be for you.  We call it the party bus and there may possibly be alcoholic beverages on the bus.   Please bring garbage bags with you so we can keep the bus tidy for Steve.

People often ask if they can leave their cars in the studio parking lot while on the trip.  We would suggest getting dropped off if possible, cars left in the studio parking lot over the weekend are at your own risk.

Dining Details

Cabin questions.

We are at the 5:30pm dining time and we sit together nightly.  Your dining table will be on your room keycard from Royal Caribbean and we do our best to sit people together who have requested it.  There are various table sizes in the dining room and sometimes we have to work with the area we have been assigned.  

People often ask to sit with their favorite instructor so we often try to rotate each night where instructors are at different tables during the cruise.  If we are short on space and this doesn't work out we will visit for dessert!

Can Non-Zumba Sarasota members join the cruise?  Of course they can!  People often ask if they can bring friends, children or spouses.  Anyone is welcome to join us whether or not they want to do our fitness classes.  We always need photographers and people to cheer us on!  We are always happy to meet new friends they are most welcome!

Do we decorate doors?  Sure, but just do it if you want to be found!  Bring your door decor with you as well as tape.

Some suitcases arrive outside your cabin door sooner than others.  Don't panic, they will arrive!

Travel Documentation

Check your passport now and see when it expires.  If you need to update it, now is the time.  It is possible to travel without a passport, however it is not recommended.   If you do not intend to have a valid passport, please let Fantasy Travel know at time of booking and they can give you information about alternative documentation.  ***You will need your passport or other documentation to board the ship, do not place it in your checked bags.

Non-stop Zumba? That's the theme on this cruise

Don't worry about eating too much on this cruise. You can just dance the calories away.

Global fitness company Zumba today announced it's teaming with Royal Caribbean to hold the first official Zumba cruise in early 2016.

The five-day sailing on Royal Caribbean's 3,634-passenger Independence of the Seas will kick off Jan. 25, 2016 in Fort Lauderdale and feature daily themed classes led by 130 of the top Zumba celebrity instructors from around the world.

Accompanied by live music and DJs, the classes will include sessions led by Zumba creator Beto Perez.

"We wanted to create a way to keep the party going and offer Zumba fans around the world a chance to celebrate and dance together outside the class setting," Zumba CEO and co-founder Alberto Perlman says in a statement accompanying the announcement.

The sailing will include a visit to Falmouth, Jamaica and Labadee, Haiti, Royal Caribbean's private beach destination. The stop in Labadee will feature a live concert with top Caribbean artists, the company says.

Practiced by millions of people around the world, Zumba incorporates dance elements of hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo.

Fares for the Zumba cruise start at $842 per person, based on double occupancy, with lower fares available for three or more passengers sharing a room. More information is available at a zumba-cruise.com .

My wife and I have sailed on HA ships a number of times in the past and have enjoyed them.  We have not been on any HA ship for quite a few years as we generally stick with Princess or Cunard these days where we enjoy special activities like pickleball, Zumba on sea days and multiple dance venues for ballroom, swing and Latin styles of dance.   We are contemplating an HA Canada itinerary in September and wonder whether HA now has pickleball and Zumba (or similar dance exercise classes).   Also I see the Zuiderdam no longer has a dance floor in the ocean bar and the disco has been removed altogether.  Does that leave only the BB King lounge for dancers?  Are there any dancers out there who can comment on whether it or the venues generally are adequate for those who would like to be able to dance many times in an evening?

While I do not play, I have noticed on threads on this Board and articles elsewhere, that HAL seems to be carving out the position of PickleBall of the Seas!

Letting others answer the dance questions.

Yes on the HAL ships we have been on there is one pickleball court.  There is quite a following but everyone has been good about 4 on, 4 off.  There were paddles provided but we always bring our own.

don’t recall zumba being offered but perhaps someone else has a definitive answer.

The pickleball court is open every day with several activities scheduled each sea day.  Have not seen any Zumba classes and dance floor is dependent on ship.

Zuiderdam still has a dance floor in the Ocean Bar. At least at the beginning of this year.

Koningsdam has a dance floor in the Rolling Stones and BB King music venues.

Thanks for this.  On the ship deck plans I was able to find the BB king venue but could not find the Rolling Stones venue.  Can you say where it is?   I see the Ocean Bar, Gallery Bar, Pinnacle Bar and Lincoln Centre Lounge.  Is the Rolling Stone another name for one of those?  

Yes. Rolling Stone venue is replacing BB King's.

From the people currently on board, the Rolling Stone room has rock, R&B and pop music.  Sounds like a mix of what was BB Kings with the Rolling Stone rooms on the Pinnacle ships. (No ballroom, country, jazz or classical in that venue)

We are on the Zaandam, not the Zuiderdam. 

Is there any ballroom on the ship?

I mean not a ballroom facility but opportunity to do that style of dancing.
