The best of road cycling returns with the 2022 UCI WorldTour

The world’s best riders will show their skills in 33 events, starting with the UAE Tour and the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Elite at the end of February.

Road racing has returned, and the intensity will only pick up with the first events of the UCI WorldTour, as the series progresses through the 2022 calendar. The international elite of cyclists is set to battle across three continents (Asia, Europe and America), with races in 11 different countries. Australia would have brought even more diversity to the calendar, with the traditional opening of the season Down Under, but the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and the Santos Tour Down Under had to be canceled due to the restrictions imposed to fight the Covid-19 pandemics.

Sprinters, climbers, puncheurs, rouleurs… every type of established champions and rising stars will find opportunities to shine as they try to succeed the winners of the 2021 UCI World Ranking : Tadej Pogačar (winner of the UCI World Ranking as well as the Stage Race UCI World Ranking), Wout van Aert (One Day Race UCI World Ranking) and Deceuninck-Quick Step (UCI Team Ranking), who still aim to dominate collectively under the Wolfpack’s new name, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team.

Spring battles

The UAE Tour (February 20th-26th) will bring the first battles: tricky stages in the desert, an individual time trial and two mountainous days with summit finishes. Pogačar and the other best stage racers can already jostle in this early season rendez-vous the Slovenian prodigy dominated last year for his UAE Team Emirates. The Slovenian and a cohort of stars will then head to Tirreno-Adriatico (ITA - March 7th-13th), while his countryman Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) and others are expected to race Paris-Nice (FRA - March 6th-13th).

At the same time, Classics specialists will have already started their spring with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Elite (February 26th), the traditional Belgian opener, leading to a campaign featuring all the ingredients for many thrillers: Italy’s white roads (Strade Bianche, March 5th) and Classicissima (Milano-Sanremo, March 19th); Belgian cobbles (Oxyclean Classic Brugge-De Panne, March 23rd, E3 Saxo Bank Classic, March 25th, Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields, March 27th, Dwaars door Vlaanderen - A travers la Flandre, March 30th, Ronde van Vlaanderen - Tour des Flandres, April 3rd) and hills (La Flèche Wallonne, April 20th, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, April 24th)…

When you hear that the Omloop is being held this month 😍 #OHN22 pic.twitter.com/x9mq8bsIPL — OmloopHetNieuwsblad (@OmloopHNB) February 1, 2022

The calendar for the final stretch of the spring Classics is slightly adjusted this season to accommodate the French presidential elections. A week after the Ronde van Vlaanderen, riders will face the Dutch traps of the Amstel Gold Race (April 10th), while the iconic Paris-Roubaix is set for April 17th, as the event returns to a spring date after a historic autumnal weekend in 2021 . Eschborn-Frankfurt (May 1st) will cap off this intense stretch for the one-day race fans.

Grand Tour assaults Stage racers will keep the intensity rising in Spain with the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya (March 21st-27th), quickly followed by the Itzulia Basque Country (April 4th-9th), and in Switzerland (Tour de Romandie, April 26th-May 1st), ahead of the first Grand Tour of the year: the Giro d’Italia, with a first ever start in Hungary (May 6th) and a spectacular finish in Verona (May 29th), where Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) sealed his victory in 2019. The Ecuadorian climber is expected at the start again. He’ll face grueling battles in his effort to succeed his teammate Egan Bernal, the winner in 2021.

There will be little time to gaze in awe at the views of the Verona Arena, as the Critérium du Dauphiné (FRA - June 5th-12th) and the Tour de Suisse (June 12th-19th) will bring more battles ahead of the Tour de France (July 1st-24th). The three-week event will celebrate Danish cycling culture, with a Grand Départ in Copenhagen , and lead the riders over cobbles and summits as iconic as L’Alpe d’Huez, to challenge the two-time reigning champion Pogačar.

Don’t expect the Slovenian wonderkid to take a break after reaching the Champs-Elysées - he’s already announced his intention to return to the final Grand Tour of the season, La Vuelta Ciclista a España (August 19th-September 11th), where he had a breakthrough performance in 2019.

Final pushes for glory

Ahead of the three-week race from Utrecht (the Netherlands) to Madrid, puncheurs and climbers will have another challenge at the Donostia San Sebastian Klasikoa (ESP - July 30th), and the Tour de Pologne (July 30th-August 5th) will offer more thrills on its varied routes.

Action will keep going all around the world during La Vuelta Ciclista a España with one-day races such as as the Bemer Cyclassics (GER - August 21st), the Bretagne Classic - Ouest-France (August 28th) and the Canadian Grand Prix in Québec (September 9th) and Montréal (September 11th).

Classic experts should also thrive in the seven stages of the Benelux Tour. The world’s best cyclists are then expected in Wollongong (Australia), for the 2022 UCI Road World Championships (September 18th-25th), before they take on the final UCI WorldTour challenges of the season: the Monument, Il Lombardia (ITA - October 8th) ahead of the fireworks of the Gree-Tour of Guangxi (CHN - October 13th-18th).

WorldTour bikes and tech: Who's using what in 2022?

Lotto Soudal ditch Campagnolo for Shimano and Giant returns to the WorldTour as the number of teams drops from 19 to 18

A four-way image that shows a Dura-Ace groupset, Lotto Soudal's bike, Ineos' new kit and a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt

Welcome to the  Cyclingnews  WorldTour bikes guide for 2022: a complete and comprehensive round-up of the 2022 UCI WorldTeams, their bikes and their equipment in the upcoming cycling season.

With the 2021 season over, the attention and focus of the WorldTour teams quickly turned to preparation for 2022. On the face of it, the 2021 season was one of smooth sailing compared to the wildly disrupted season that preceded it, but pro road cycling's fragile sponsorship model means several team managers still have to work immensely hard to secure a future for their team, riders and staff.

Case in point: Team Qhubeka NextHash . The South African team struggled for financial security all year and, after a deadline extension, were refused a 2022 WorldTour license by the UCI . This means that the number of teams in the WorldTour drops from 19 to 18 in 2022.

However, while the immense investments of title sponsors are the foundations on which a team can survive, they're not the only sponsors that teams rely on. Beyond the millions of dollars required to obtain a WorldTour licence and operate a team at the top of the sport, the teams also need bikes on which to race, saddles on which to sit, clothing to wear and helmets to keep them safe.

They wouldn't be a very successful bike racing team without them, would they?

WorldTour bikes 2021 WorldTour bikes 2020 WorldTour bikes 2019 WorldTour bikes 2018 WorldTour bikes 2017

And this is where the sponsorship model gets a little more granular. The bike industry is rife with brands vying for attention. Be they bike brands, kit manufacturers or shoe suppliers, they all want a slice of the pie, and they all have something to offer that the team needs.

There are varying types of sponsor agreement. Some will include a cash injection alongside the provision of equipment, while others will be the equipment alone, though of course, rarely will such details be shared publicly. In addition, some agreements will be a simple handover of product in return for the publicity it will garner, while others will be fully integrated technical partnerships where the two parties work together to innovate, develop and market their products.

For example, Specialized's partnership with QuickStep-AlphaVinyl is much more than just a shipment of bikes. Representatives from the brand are almost always present at winter training camps and big races to help riders and receive feedback. The team are given access to the brand's wind tunnel, its team of bike fit specialists at sister brand Retül, and its range of footwear, helmets and components.

The brand also works particularly closely with select riders on the development of future products. Sam Bennett and Mark Cavendish were integral to the creation of the S-Works Ares shoes, for example, and Kasper Asgreen was providing feedback on the Tarmac SL7 two years before it was finished.

One team doing things slightly differently are Team DSM, who have taken the development of their clothing in-house. Although still relying on third parties for support - initially Bioracer and now Nalini - they claim to be developing their own racewear, rather than simply wearing sponsor-supplied kit.

Rarely is a sponsorship agreement indefinite. Many are agreed for two or three years - sometimes even just for one - and, as you can expect, it's usually the more integrated partnerships that last the longest and bear the most fruit, both in terms of performance and publicity. However, to many, the grass seems greener on the other side, so every few years the WorldTour sees a merry-go-round of swaps as teams and their sponsors part ways and form new agreements elsewhere.

Peter Sagan World Championships Tarmac SL7

At the start of the 2021 season, such an event involved Bianchi, Cervélo, and Scott. Mitchelton-Scott changed to Team BikeExchange and switched from Scott bikes to Bianchi; Jumbo-Visma stepped away from Bianchi and climbed aboard bikes from Cervélo; while Team Sunweb rebranded to Team DSM and their partnership with Cervélo ended, leaving the door open for Scott to step in.

This year, there's much less movement, with 17 of the 18 WorldTour teams confirmed to be riding the same brand as in 2021. The only team changing is BikeExchange-Jayco, whose one year deal with Bianchi ends, leaving the door open for Giant Bicycles to return to the WorldTour. Giant was forced out of the sport's top flight for the first time since the late '90s, when CCC Team folded at the end of 2020.

Ineos Grenadiers BioRacer kit

A similar merry-go-round is happening in the clothing department. Bioracer has stepped away from the project with Team DSM in favour of a partnership with Ineos Grenadiers. Their previous sponsor Castelli will now supply QuickStep-AlphaVinyl.

Meanwhile, in order to step into the vacancy left at Team DSM, Nalini Clothing has stopped supplying Cofidis. However, instead of QuickStep's former supplier Vermarc completing the circle, Decathlon's in-house brand Van Rysel will step into the WorldTour to plug that Cofidis gap, leaving Vermarc to focus solely on its other team, Lotto Soudal.

Tech on show at Rouleur live

The only groupset change for the 2022 season is Lotto Soudal's switch away from Campagnolo in favour of Shimano, a change that was announced in late October alongside a separate contract extension that will see the team continue aboard Ridley bikes until 2026. This move also saw the team swap Campagnolo wheels for DT Swiss.

The big question on the groupset front is not a question of one brand against another, such as SRAM vs Shimano , but actually a case of Shimano against itself. More specifically, given the current parts shortage, it's not yet confirmed whether all of the WorldTour teams will upgrade to Shimano's new 12-speed Dura-Ace groupset or be sticking with the older 11-speed version. Of the 18 teams in the WorldTour in 2022, 13 will use Shimano but, so far, only 10 have confirmed the use of the latest 12-speed groupset.

Two teams (Movistar and Trek-Segafredo) will be using SRAM's 12-speed Red eTap groupset, with a further three (AG2R Citroën, Cofidis and UAE Team Emirates) running Campagnolo.

AG2R Citröen Team

  • Bikes : BMC Teammachine SLR01, BMC Timemachine Road, BMC Timemachine TT
  • Groupset : Campagnolo Super Record EPS
  • Wheels : Campagnolo
  • Clothing : Rosti
  • Saddles : Fizik
  • Finishing Kit : BMC
  • Computers : Wahoo

There's no change at AG2R Citröen, meaning the French team will continue aboard Swiss brand BMC equipped with Campagnolo's Super Record EPS 12-speed groupset and Campagnolo wheels.

Courtesy of limitations set by bike design, the team will be exclusively committed to disc brakes. They will bear the threads of Rosti clothing once more, and will be navigated by Wahoo's Elemnt range of computers.

Astana Qazaqstan Team

  • Bikes : Wilier Zero SLR, Wilier Filante, Wilier Turbine TT
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Disc 12 Speed
  • Wheels : Corima
  • Clothing : Giordana
  • Saddles : Prologo
  • Finishing Kit : Wilier
  • Computers : Garmin

Aside from the departure of sponsor Premier Tech and the consequent name change, the Astana team see no major equipment changes. They will continue aboard Wilier bikes with Corima wheels, wearing Giordana clothing and using Garmin computers.

Bahrain Victorious

  • Bikes : Merida Reacto, Merida Scultura, Merida Warp TT
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Disc (12 Speed TBC)
  • Wheels :  Vision
  • Clothing : Alé
  • Finishing Kit : FSA, Vision

There's also little change at Bahrain Victorious. The team did start the 2021 campaign in Nalini clothing, before they switched to Alé during the summer, but that new partner remains along with the use of Merida Bikes, Shimano groupsets and Vision/FSA componentry.

Bora-Hansgrohe

Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7

  • Bikes : Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7, Specialized S-Works Shiv TT
  • Wheels : Roval
  • Clothing : Le Col
  • Saddles : Specialized
  • Finishing Kit : PRO, Specialized

Alongside the departure of Peter Sagan, the German Bora-Hansgrohe squad also saw their longtime clothing sponsor, Sportful head for the exit, so in steps British brand Le Col to provide the kit. That and an upgrade to the newest Dura-Ace groupset aside, everything else remains the same, with the continued use of Specialized bikes and all the peripherals that come with it, including Roval components.

A De Rosa Merak road bike, in Cofidis colours, fitted with Corima wheels and Campagnolo components

  • Bikes : De Rosa Merak, SK Pininfarina, TT-03 (TT)
  • Clothing : Van Rysel
  • Saddles : Selle Italia
  • Finishing Kit : FSA/Vision

Cofidis are forming part of the four-way clothing sponsor shuffle this year. They lose Nalini as a sponsor, but gain Van Rysel, the in-house brand of mega European sports-retailer Decathlon.

The other change in the Cofidis camp is a switch away from Fulcrum wheels in favour of Corima - the same brand that supplies Astana Qazaqstan. They will remain on De Rosa bikes for a third year, and will continue to use Campagnolo's groupsets, Selle Italia saddles and Wahoo computers.

EF Education-Nippo

  • Bikes : Cannondale SuperSix Evo, SystemSix, SuperSlice (TT)
  • Wheels : Vision
  • Clothing : Rapha
  • Computers : TBC

For the most part, it appears EF Education-Nippo are sticking with what they know in 2022, continuing aboard Cannondale bikes, Vision/FSA components and Prologo saddles. There will be an upgrade to the latest Dura-Ace groupset, too.

There is still a question mark hanging over which computers they'll use, suggesting a possible switch away from Garmin.

Groupama-FDJ

  • Bikes : Lapierre Aircode, Xelius SL, Aerostorm DRS (TT)
  • Wheels : Shimano C50, C60
  • Finishing Kit : Lapierre

As one of the teams that are most closely partnered with Shimano, it's unsurprising to see that Groupama FDJ will upgrade to the 12-speed Dura-Ace groupset but, that aside, everything else remains as it was in 2021.

Ineos Grenadiers

  • Bikes : Pinarello Dogma F, Bolide (TT)
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 12 Speed (Disc brakes TBC)
  • Wheels : Shimano (Lightweight, Princeton Carbonworks & Aerocoach will be present as non-sponsored additions)
  • Clothing : Bioracer
  • Finishing Kit : MOST

The biggest change for Ineos Grenadiers came in the latter half of 2021 when they switched from rim brakes to disc brakes - being the final team in the WorldTour to make the switch. The move came thanks to Pinarello's launch of the Dogma F, which shaved enough weight off to ensure the team could still hit the 6.8kg minimum weight limit while running discs. It's unclear whether the team will still continue to use rim brakes at all, or whether they will be phased out at the turn of the year.

The team have also switched clothing supplier, waving goodbye to Castelli and launching a new partnership with Bioracer.

Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux

  • Bikes : Cube Litening C:68X, Aerium C:68 (TT)
  • Wheels : Newmen
  • Clothing : TBC
  • Finishing Kit : Cube
  • Computers : Bryton

It appears there will be a couple of changes for the WorldTour's newest recruit, Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux, whose bike sponsor Cube will enter only its second-ever season in the WorldTour. The team will swap Fulcrum wheels for Cube's sister brand Newmen, and a question mark hangs over the team's clothing sponsor for 2022.

Israel-Premier Tech

  • Bikes : Factor OSTRO VAM, O2 VAM, ONE Disc, HANZŌ (TT)
  • Wheels : Black Inc (Road: Black 20-80, TT: FIVE, THREE, ZERO)
  • Clothing : Jinga
  • Finishing Kit : Black Inc
  • Computers : Hammerhead

Besides changing name from Israel Start-Up Nation to Israel-Premier Tech, the team will start 2022 exactly how they finished 2021, with Factor's range of bikes, Shimano groupsets, wheels courtesy of Factor's sister brand Black Inc, and computers from the rapidly ascending Hammerhead brand courtesy of its Karoo 2.

Jumbo-Visma

  • Bikes : Cervélo S5, R5, Caledonia, P5 (TT)
  • Wheels : Shimano
  • Clothing : Agu
  • Finishing Kit : FSA

Jumbo Visma will also see no equipment changes as they transition from 2021 to 2022, with continued use of Cervélo bikes, Shimano groupsets and wheels, and clothing from Dutch brand Agu.

Lotto Soudal

A black and silver Ridley Noah Fast, fitted with DT Swiss wheels and Shimano groupset

  • Bikes : Ridley Helium, Noah Fast, Dean (TT)
  • Wheels : DT Swiss ARC 1100 / ERC 1100
  • Clothing : Vermarc
  • Finishing Kit : Deda

There's quite an upheaval of componentry in the Lotto Soudal camp, with Campagnolo heading for the exit in both the groupset and wheelset departments. Shimano steps in on the groupset front, supplying its new Dura-Ace groupset, while DT-Swiss will provide its ARC and ERC 1100 wheels.

The teams bikes will remain the same, though, with the partnership with Ridley extended until 2026. Vermarc will continue to supply the team's clothing.

Movistar Team

  • Bikes : Canyon Aeroad CFR, Ultimate CF SLX, Speedmax CFR (TT)
  • Groupset : SRAM Red eTap AXS
  • Wheels : Zipp
  • Clothing : La Passione
  • Finishing Kit : Canyon

The only change at Movistar is the deal signed with La Passione to supply the team's kit, replacing Alé. Everything else remains the same, meaning the continued use of Canyon's bikes, SRAM's wireless Red eTap AXS groupsets and Zipp wheels, with saddles courtesy of Fizik and computers supplied by Garmin.

QuickStep-AlphaVinyl

QuickStep-AlphaVinyl's Specialized Tarmac SL7

  • Clothing : Castelli

Two changes are in effect at the QuickStep camp. The first comes in the form of the team's clothing, with Castelli being brought on board to replace Vermarc, after Castelli's previous deal with Ineos Grenadiers came to a close. The second change comes in form of the GPS computers. The brand has used Wahoo for the past two seasons after a single-year deal with Bryton in 2019, but from 2022 onwards, will make the switch to Garmin.

Team BikeExchange-Jayco

A post shared by Team BikeExchange-Jayco (@greenedgecycling) A photo posted by on
  • Bikes : Giant TCR, Propel, Trinity (TT)
  • Wheels : Cadex
  • Saddles : Cadex
  • Finishing Kit : Giant

There's plenty to discuss at BikeExchange, with Brent Copeland's men and women being given a totally new bike, wheels, clothing and more, and the team getting a new title sponsor too.

The team's one-year deal with Bianchi has come to an end, leaving the door open for Giant Bicycles to return to the WorldTour after its first year absent since the late '90s. Giant's sister brand Cadex also comes on board, supplying the wheels and saddles, while Giant will also supply the team's helmets, replacing Giro.

Italian kit manufacturer, Alé Cycling, replaces Giordana to supply the team's kit, while Australian motorhome dealer Jayco joins the team as a title sponsor.

A black Scott Addict RC, fitted with Shimano wheels and Shimano groupset

  • Bikes : Scott Addict RC, Plasma (TT)
  • Wheels : Shimano C36, C50, C60
  • Clothing : Own-brand x Nalini
  • Saddles : PRO
  • Finishing Kit : Syncros

Almost everything remains the same at Team DSM. The only thing worthy of note is the brand's slightly unusual clothing partnership, and the change in the technical partner involved. Technically, the team's kit is an in-house brand that's not yet available to the public. Last year, that in-house kit was created with help from Bioracer, but since they agreed a deal with Ineos Grenadiers, Nalini has stepped in to fill the void at Team DSM.

That aside though, the team will ride Scott bikes, complete with Shimano groupsets and wheels, while navigation will be provided by Wahoo.

Trek–Segafredo

  • Bikes : Trek Madone, Emonda, Domane, Speed Concept (TT)
  • Wheels : Bontrager
  • Clothing : Santini
  • Saddles : Bontrager
  • Finishing Kit : Bontrager

The total amount of change at Trek Segafredo adds up to zero. All the equipment that helped Jasper Stuyven to an impressive Milan-San Remo win and Lizzie Deignan to the first ever Women's Paris-Roubaix victory will continue to support the team in 2022.

That means the team will continue on Trek's range of road bikes, SRAM groupsets, Bontrager components, Wahoo computers and clothing from Santini, who will officially also supply the Tour de France leaders' jerseys in 2022.

UAE Team Emirates

  • Bikes : Colnago V3Rs, C64, K.One (TT)
  • Clothing : Gobik
  • Finishing Kit : Deda Elementi
  • Computers : SRM

Finally, UAE Team Emirates and their Tour de France winning talisman, Tadej Pogačar, will start 2022 exactly how they finished 2021, with their Colnago bikes equipped with Campagnolo Super Record EPS groupsets and Campagnolo wheels. Clothing will continue to be supplied by Spanish brand Gobik, while data will be fed from their SRM power meters to their SRM cycling computers. Finishing kit will come from Deda Elementi, while Prologo will provide the comfort.

With a new year comes new kit, bikes, and sponsors for the world’s top teams. While 2021 saw a raft of teams switch bike suppliers, in 2022 it’s the turn of the kit suppliers to play a game of musical chairs. It’s time to take a look at all the kit and equipment movers and shakers in the WorldTour peloton.

Here’s what pro cycling teams are riding and wearing in 2022. We’ll update this list as new kit designs are released.

AG2R Citroën

world bike tour 2022

This time last year, it was all change at AG2R-Citroën. New additions included BMC, Campagnolo, Pirelli, Wahoo, and of course Citroën, plus a raft of new riders. With such recent and widespread change, it’s hardly surprising to see the team stick with the same formula for 2022. Expect to see a few new faces, perhaps even a new paint job on the bikes. Expect also to see the brown shorts remain for yet another year. I make that 14 years and counting.

Astana Qazaqstan Team

world bike tour 2022

A slight alteration to the name is as new as it gets over at Astana. It’s almost back to the past for the Kazakh team with the return of Vincenzo Nibali and Miguel Ángel López. Pro riders are creatures of habit, so the decision to stick with the same bikes, wheels, and kit will be welcomed by most.

Bahrain Victorious

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Team Bahrain Victorious (@teambahrainvictorious)

Another team sticking to what it knows is Bahrain Victorious. The squad has relied upon Merida frames, FSA, Vision, Prologo and Shimano components since the Gulf nation began funding the team in 2017. Presumably, the objective was to stick with a winning formula, given the team has just had its most successful season to date. The only notable change from January 2021 is Ale coming in to replace Nalini as clothing sponsor. However, even that is old news – the team made the switch mid-2021 season.

Bora-Hansgrohe

world bike tour 2022

Here is a team with a vastly different roster but yet remarkably similar equipment. Despite the additional investment in the new-look Team Total Energies, Specialized and Roval have stuck with the German WorldTour squad. Bora is the first team to find a sponsor-supplied seat in the 2022 game of professional cycling musical chairs. British brand Le Col has replaced Sportful as clothing sponsor. Le Col has retained the team’s signature green and black colours in an updated design. The fresh new look is a reminder of the change in personnel and focus for the German team with a raft of new riders and high profile departures.

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Team Cofidis Équipe Cycliste (@teamcofidis)

Cofidis also grabbed themselves a chair. Decathlon’s in-house brand Van Rysel will supply the French team’s outfits for 2022. Expect the new kit to be red. Very red. But for now, all we’ve seen is the training kit. Which is very yellow.

De Rosa, Campagnolo, and Fulcrum all stick around for another year with one of the longest-standing teams in professional cycling.

EF Education-Nippo

EF will ride Cannondale bikes again in 2022. Expect the setups to remain very similar. FSA and Vision supply the components and wheels, while Prologo should be on board again with saddles and perhaps bar tape. Expect to see the team on 12-speed Dura-Ace Di2, and Rapha will again supply the kit, which hasn’t yet been released.

It’s that kit we are all most excited to see. EF had Rapha’s most compliant kit ever for 2021 and a special Giro kit. We look forward to seeing what Rapha’s designers come up with for 2022.

Groupama-FDJ

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Équipe Cycliste Groupama-FDJ (@equipegroupamafdj)

Wholesale change at FDJ? Nope, not now, not ever. The FDJ squad is the WorldTour equivalent of the iPhone S: small updates rather than entirely new releases. This year, the only notable FDJ update is the inclusion of Lapierre’s new Xelius SL3 . In Shimano and Ale, both the kit and component suppliers remain the same as 2021. “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Ineos Grenadiers

world bike tour 2022

From a distance, the recipe for an Ineos Grenadier appears unchanged. Pinarello bikes, Shimano components, and mostly navy kit. However, there is more change than first meets the eye. Pinarello has already replaced its original 2021 F12 with the new Dogma F. Add to that a dollop of a new Crossista CX bike for chef Tom Pidcock. Finally, Bioracer has added a hint of Belgium and a splash of red to the Grenadiers kit. Only time will tell if the new recipe is an instant classic.

Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux

Things remain largely unchanged over at Intermarche. The team will race Cube bikes and Newman wheels in 2022. A raft of new riders will be looking to the current crop of talent for advice on equipment setup. We are awaiting a decision from the video assistant referee as to which clothing seat Intermarche landed on. Expect the team to be on Shimano components again.

Israel Start-Up Nation

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Israel Start-Up Nation (@teamisraelsun)

It’s “as you were” over at Israel Start-Up Nation. The team will have the Factor Ostro Vam for road stages. The bike builds remain almost identical to last year with Black Inc wheels and handlebars, Selle Italia saddles, 4iiii power meters, and Shimano components.

Lotto Soudal

world bike tour 2022

Just when you thought things were getting a little boring, Lotto Soudal stepped in with a host of changes. Gone is the long-standing partnership with Campagnolo. For 2022 the Belgian squad will rely on Shimano components for the first time since 2002. DT Swiss has stepped in as wheel sponsor, with Vittoria still providing the rubber. Vermarc sticks with Lotto Soudal as clothing sponsor

Much like Lotto this year, the Movistar and Campagnolo split made the headlines two years ago. SRAM and Zipp have adorned the team’s Canyon bikes ever since, and those partnerships will continue in 2022.

Both men’s and women’s Movistar squads got invitations to the clothing musical chairs party. Having parted with Italian brand Ale, Movistar switches to another Italian brand, La Passione, for 2022.

Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl

world bike tour 2022

Hunting in packs, Patrick Lefevere’s men found themselves a new clothing chair for 2022. Belgian brand Vermarc only had one chair in the game for 2022, and Lotto Soudal refused to give it up. Luckily for QuickStep, the Castelli seat vacated by Ineos had QuickStep’s name on it.

The bikes are still Specialized, wheels are Roval, components are from Shimano.

Team BikeExchange Jayco

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Team BikeExchange-Jayco (@greenedgecycling)

A slight name change and another bike change look almost certain for the sole Australian squad in the men’s and women’s World Tour. Now at the end of a single-year deal with Bianchi bikes, BikeExchange welcomes Giant back to the WorldTour. Giant was absent from the 2021 World Tour peloton after the demise of the CCC team in 2020. The men’s team will ride Giant bikes while the women’s BikeExchange squad will race on Liv bikes. Both squads will race with Cadex wheels.

The clothing music stopped for GreenEdge on November 3 when it grabbed the Ale seat left vacant by Movistar. This partnership will see both men’s and women’s teams ride Ale kit for 2022 and 2023.

world bike tour 2022

If you have kept track of those clothing-sponsor chairs, you might spot Nalini was the only clothing brand with a team in 2021 (or part of) still unconfirmed for 2022. That was until Team DSM partnered with the Italian brand. The team develops its own clothing range, which was produced by Bioracer in 2021. Nalini will produce the garments for 2022 and notably claims a spot on the jersey. Something Bioracer, perhaps more notably, had not done in 2021.

It’s as you were on the equipment front for both men’s and women’s teams. The team will continue with Scott bikes, Shimano groupsets and wheels, and Pro components. Vittoria looks set to continue as well.

Jumbo-Visma

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Team Jumbo-Visma cycling (@jumbovisma_road)

On the men’s side, the Jumbo-Visma squad has developed into one of the leading teams in the past several years. Jumbo-Visma’s women’s team has officially stepped up to WorldTour for 2022. That said, the team’s performances, results, equipment, and kit were already WorldTour level.

Having switched to Cervelo bikes just 12 months ago, it’s no surprise to see the team opt for a repeat of the same setup: Cervelo frames, Shimano components and wheels, and Fizik saddles. Dutch brand AGU remains in place as clothing sponsor for 2022.

Trek-Segafredo

world bike tour 2022

Unsurprisingly Trek Segafredo will ride Trek bikes with Bontrager equipment in 2022. The team has retained partnerships with SRAM and Pirelli also, meaning familiar setups for the returning 2021 male and female riders.

Santini provides the team kit for the Trek team and will continue in 2022. At the same time, Wahoo continues its partnership formed with the team at the beginning of 2021, supplying head units for the bikes.

UAE-Team Emirates

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by UAE Team Emirates🇦🇪 (@uae_team_emirates)

Presumably, brands are lining up to partner with Tadej Pogačar’s team. The double Tour champion shows no signs of slowing down, and his team has ramped up his support squad. There is seemingly no room at the inn, though. Colnago remains as frame sponsor and is joined by Campagnolo, SRM, Vittoria, Deda, Prologo, and Look to complete the team bikes.

Spanish clothing brand Gobik joined the team for 2021 and remains in place for 2022.

The same brands now support the newly formed Women’s WorldTour squad, Team UAE. Despite acquiring the Ale-BTC Ljubljana team license and nine of its riders, the new Team UAE will bear little resemblance to the squad it replaces. Gone are the Cipollini bikes, replaced with Colnago. Gobik replaces Ale clothing. The Campagnolo presence ensures a tiny semblance of continuity.

Canyon-SRAM

Rapha has provided the stunning Canyon-SRAM kit designs over the past few years. However, the Canyon-SRAM/Rapha partnership is coming to an end. Canyon will provide the team kit in 2022. Does that mean the end of the best kit designs in the peloton? Likely. Will Canyon’s designers create something equally as brilliant? Unlikely, as that is, after all, an almost impossible task. All good things do have to come to an end.

Otherwise, things should be very much as they were. Canyon bikes, SRAM equipment, Zipp wheels.

FDJ Nouvelle – Aquitaine Futuroscope

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by FDJ NAquitaine Futuroscope (@fdj_naqui_fut)

On paper, the 2022 FDJ squad should look almost identical to the 2021 squad. Lapierre will supply the bikes, Shimano the groupsets and wheels, and Gobik the team kit. Kit design is the only place to see a change.

Liv Racing Xstra

Liv Racing has a new sponsor and shareholder in Xstra, a digital storage company. We will have to wait to see if the team opts for a similar kit design. We hope it does. One thing is for certain: Liv racing will race on Liv bikes. SRAM should be onboard again with groupsets, while Cadex provides the wheels and build kit.

Team SD Worx

world bike tour 2022

SD Worx will stick with a winning package for 2022. Specialized provides the frames, saddles, and tyres. Zipp is onboard with wheels and build kit while SRAM will provide groupsets, including Quarq power meters.

The team has already unveiled its new kit design, although it is unclear who manufactures the clothing.

Human Powered Health

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by @humanpoweredhealth

Rally Cycling becomes Human Powered Health for 2022 and makes the step up to WorldTour for the next two seasons. While the name has changed the team kit is expected to remain largely unchanged.

Felt has confirmed the team will ride its bikes in 2022. SRAM is expected to stay on as component supplier along with Time, FSA, and Vision. The team raced with Kenda tyres and Quarq tyres in 2021. Pactimo supplied the team kit in 2021, and although unconfirmed, the partnership is expected to continue.

Roland Cogeas Edelweiss

Little is known of the Swiss team’s setup for 2022. We did find two photos of the new team kit on the team page of the Cogeas Cycling website . The photos seem to confirm Look will remain as bike sponsor for 2022. Swiss clothing brand Q36.5 will join as clothing supplier. We will bring you more news on the team as we get it.

EF Education-Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank

Another of the teams stepping up to WorldTour in 2022, Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank will continue with Cannondale bikes in 2022. The team will ride with Shimano groupsets, Vision wheels and components, and presumably Vittoria tyres.

Rapha replaces Voler as clothing sponsor, with POC also joining the revamped team to supply helmets and glasses.

Uno-X Pro Cycling

In Uno-X we have another team about which very little is known. A new team for 2022, the squad will jump straight into the highest level in the Women’s WorldTour. So far all we have from the team is a raft of signings and a single photo of the new jersey on the team’s Twitter feed.

Interestingly the Dare bikes logo does not appear on the jersey, but the Norweigan direct-to-consumer bike brand is expected to supply the team for 2022. Again, we will bring more news on this as we get it.

UCI Announces the 2021 WorldTour Calendars

The dates for the men’s and women’s races reflect the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics, plus the continued impact of coronavirus.

74th tour of spain 2019 stage 4 men's peloton

The 2021 World Tour season will kick off in Australia with the men’s Santos Tour Down Under from January 19 to 24, then the women’s Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on January 30 and the men’s edition on January 31. Both the men’s and women’s seasons will wrap up in China in mid-October with the Tour of Guangxi.

The announcement outlines new dates for the 2021 Tour de France, so that it no longer interferes with the Tokyo Olympics. The 2021 edition of the Tour de France was originally scheduled to start in Copenhagen on July 2 and end on July 25; the Tour will now end on July 18, a week before the Olympics begin. Specifically, the Olympic road races will be held on July 24, 25, and 28. La Course, the women’s race , will also be held July 18.

For now, the calendars look very much like those you’d see in a normal year, with the usual spring classics, Grand Tours, and more. The women’s Paris-Roubaix will also make its second appearance.

[Want to fly up hills? Climb! gives you the workouts and mental strategies to conquer your nearest peak.]

Notably absent from the calendars, though, are WorldTour races in America. Since 2006, the U.S. hosted the Amgen Tour of California , but race organizers declared its indefinite “ hiatus ” late last year due to financial issues. Another WorldTour race not taking place next year is the men’s Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic in Great Britain.

The UCI also confirmed the cancelations of several races this fall due to coronavirus concerns: the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal in Canada, the EuroEyes Cyclassics Hamburg in Germany, and the Boels Ladies Tour in the Netherlands.

The UCI will announce its international road calendar—including ProSeries, Class 1 and Class 2—in September, which should (depending on the coronavirus outbreak) include U.S. races such as the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, Winston Salem Cycling Classic in North Carolina, Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas, Tour of the Gila in New Mexico, Chrono Kristen Armstrong in Idaho, and the new Maryland Cycling Classic .

Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert

AG2R CITROEN: 3/10

Despite stringing together a series of high finishes in the early season stage races, last year’s breakout star Ben O’Connor failed to mount a Grand Tour GC bid to match his fourth-place from last year’s Tour de France.

Instead, a Bob Jungels stage win at that race was their season highlight, while what little success they had elsewhere in the World Tour often came from Benoît Cosnfroy, who won GP de Québec and podiumed at Amstel Gold and Brabantse Pijl.

ASTANA QAZAQSTAN: 1/10

With fewer wins than any other World Tour team, and only two of those managed outside of Asia, Astana’s miserable downward trajectory of recent years continues.

Fourth overall at the Vuelta and Giro Miguel Ángel López and Vincenzo Nibali respectively were their only real performances of note, and with the latter retiring, they can only hope newly-crowned under-23 world champion Yevgeniy Fedorov helps spark life into this struggling team.

BAHRAIN-VICTORIOUS: 7/10

Fred Wright at the Tour of Flanders 2022

At the start of the season, Bahrain-Victorious picked up where they left off from 2021, winning another monument though Matej Mohoric at Milan-San Remo, picking up another Grand Tour podium finish with Mikel Landa at the Giro, and many other big wins including Dylan Teuns at Flèche Wallonne.

Things did tail off during the second half of the year results wise but Fred Wright's continued grit and determination in the face of a string of near misses served to endear the team to the fans and make him one of the squads best best performers.

BIKEEXCHANGE-JAYCO: 7/10

Despite having the threat of World Tour relegation hanging over them for much of the season until Michael Matthews landed them a haul of points with bronze at the World Championships, BikeExchange-Jayco enjoyed their most prolific season since 2019.

New signing Dylan Groenewegen proved to be a success in the sprints and Simon Yates was his usual self, and each contributed to the team winning stages in all three Grand Tours, although illness prevented Yates from doing well on GC in any of them.

BORA-HANSGROHE: 9/10

Jai Hindley with the Giro d'Italia trophy

Jai Hindley’s overall victory at the Giro d’Italia (the team’s first ever Grand Tour) was perhaps the greatest ever achievement for the German squad, and a landmark moment confirming that they are now one of the top stage race forces.

They also again managed to exceed 30 wins despite the departure of long-standing talisman Peter Sagan, largely thanks to the prolificity of Aleksandr Vlasov and Sergio Higuita in stage races, who respectively won the Tour de Romandie and Volta a Catalunya.

COFIDIS: 5/10

Nineteen wins is a significant improvement on recent years for Cofidis, even if the vast majority did come in small French races. This was their first third season competing at World Tour level, but they still struggle to make an impact in it, with Jesus Herrada’s stage at the Vuelta and Ion Izagirre’s at Itzulia Basque Country their own victories in top-ranked races.

The constant struggle to develop new talent in time to replace their trademark steady stream of riders heading for the exit continued to hinder DSM, who managed just ten wins.

This year’s top new discovery Thymen Arensman won a stage and finished sixth at the Vuelta España, having earlier made the podium at the Tour of Poland and Tour of the Alps, but he’s already moving on to Ineos Grenadiers; aside from his results, a Giro stage win for Alberto Dainese and Romain Bardet’s sixth overall at the Tour de France were the modest season highlights.

EF EDUCATION-EASYPOST: 2/10

Managing less than ten wins this was the American team’s most disappointing season for a while. Of those wins, Magnus Cort’s at the Tour and Rigoberto Uran’s at the Vuelta were the highlights, but they also failed to feature prominently in the Grand Tour GC battles, with Uran and Carthy’s ninth-places at the Vuelta and Giro respectively the highest.

Their bonkers Tour de France kit did some heavily lifting on the entertainment front though.

GROUPAMA-FDJ: 6/10

Falling short of 20 wins for the first time since 2015, Groupama-FDJ weren’t quite as prolific as normal, though that total did include three stage wins at the Giro d’Italia by a resurgent Arnaud Demare.

Only fine margins prevented them from celebrating a stellar season, with Stefan Küng taking silver at the Worlds time trial and third at Paris-Roubaix, Valentin Madouas third at the Tour of Flanders, and David Gaudu finishing one spot short of a Tour de France podium.

INEOS GRENADIERS: 5/10

Dylan van Baarle

Despite the best efforts of Geraint Thomas (third at the Tour de France) and Richard Carapaz (second at the Giro d’Italia), Ineos Grenadiers failed to win a Grand Tour for the first time since 2014.

Despite that the wins kept coming (only three teams managed more, in fact), with Dylan van Baarle’s at Paris-Roubaix and Tom Pidcock on Alpe d'Huez the highlights, but even titles like Itzulia Basque Country (Dani Martínez), the Tour de Suisse (Thomas) and Amstel Gold (Michał Kwiatkowski) aren’t enough for a team with as high expectations as Ineos.

The recent shuffling on the staff side of the team would seem to indicate not everyone is happy inside either.

INTERMARCHE-WANTY-GOBERT MATERIAUX: 8/10

Biniam Girmay wins the 2022 Gent-Wevelgem

Surely the most improved team of the year, the Belgian squad’s sophomore season in the World Tour saw them fully adapt to the elite level. They have a real star in Biniam Girmay, whose Gent Wevelgem win and Giro stage were their season highlights, but there were contributions throughout the team, from veteran Alexander Kristoff’s steady stream of wins and Quinten Herman’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège’s runner-up finish to Jan Hirt and Louis Meintjes’ Grand Tour top seven finishes.

ISRAEL-PREMIER TECH: 2/10

Victims of the dreaded relegation under the new UCI system, Israel-Premier Tech suffered as age caught up to veterans Jakob Fuglsang, Michael Woods and Chris Froome. With new signing Giacomo Nizzolo also falling short of his normal sprinting form, even an excellent Tour de France (where Simon Clarke and Hugo Houle each landed surprise stage wins) was not enough to save them.

JUMBO-VISMA: 10/10

The image of Christophe Laporte, Primož Roglič and Wout van Aert crossing the line together at the opening stage of Paris-Nice epitomised the dominance Jumbo-Visma enjoyed in 2022.

Those three riders were responsible for many of the team’s near-half century of victories, a haul that eclipses even last year’s tally of 43; and, most importantly of all, included the one they’ve wanted for years but that has always eluded them — the yellow jersey at the Tour de France, courtesy of Jonas Vingegaard.

LOTTO-SOUDAL: 3/10

Caleb Ewan

Hampered by Caleb Ewan’s crashes and injury problems, Lotto-Soudal were up against the threat of World Tour relegation all year. And despite the best efforts of young sprinter Araud De Lie, who was prolific in the minor classics, a lack of strength in depth and inability to get results in the big races saw them fail to avoid that fate.

MOVISTAR: 4/10

A total of 18 wins was the team’s highest since 2019, but were confined mostly to small races; in fact, Carlos Verona’s stage win at Critérium du Dauphiné was the only one at World Tour level. There were several notable near misses though, with Enric Mas taking laudable runner-up finishes at both the Vuelta a España and Il Lombardia, and the retiring Alejandro Valverde podiuming at Strade Bianche and Flèche Wallonne as a reminder of how much the team will miss him.

QUICKSTEP-ALHAVINYL: 9/10

Remco Evenepoel at the Vuelta Espana 2022

Even if they weren’t quite as prolific as in recent seasons, the success of Fabio Jakobsen and Remco Evenepoel was still enough for Quick Step to once again finish the season with more wins than any other team. Evenepoel was the star, landing the team the World Championships road race, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and, most impressively of all, the Vuelta a España — the team’s first ever Grand Tour title, and the heralding of a new era.

TREK-SEGAFREDO: 6/10

Trek-Segafredo are indebted to Mads Pedersen for his contribution this year, with his stage wins at the Vuelta a España, Tour de France and Paris-Nice, plus his strong showings during the spring classics, the highlights of their season. There was little to shout about from the other riders, but the Giro d’Italia was a success thanks to Giulio Ciconne’s stage win and Juan Pedro López’s run in the pink jersey.

UAE TEAM EMIRATES: 9/10

Any team blessed with Tadej Pogačar isn’t going to be left wanting for success, and this year the Slovenian delivered Il Lombardia, Strade Bianche and Tirreno-Adriatico among many more victories.

It wasn’t just about Pogačar, though, and the team provided ample support for their superstar, while also enjoying success in his absence, with Alessandro Covi winning a stage at the Giro and both Marc Soler and Juan Sebastian Molano at the Vuelta, where Juan Ayuso also announced himself as another youthful prodigy with third overall.

BEST OF THE REST

Mathieu van der Poel Giro d'Italia

Once again, Alpecin-Deceuninck were by far the standouts of the non-World Tour teams. Only five teams managed more than their total of 30, a list that included multiple stage wins at each of the Grand Tours, and a monument courtesy of Mathieu van der Poel at the Tour of Flanders.

Despite the controversy surrounding Nairo Quintana’s positive tramadol test, it was also a successful season for Arkéa–Samsic , who are now poised to enter the World Tour thanks partly to the Colombian’s successes, and the smart way they targeted UCI points throughout the season.

Norwegian team Uno-X were a breath of fresh air and some bright young talents in Tobias Johannessen and Rasmus Tiller, while TotalEnergies managed to win 15 races despite star man Peter Sagan seeming to be past his best.

Austria, France and Switzerland are on the schedule for the E-Bike World Tour (EBWT). Registration is already open!

Sublime landscapes and a tried and tested format: a festival with inclusive e-bike events for any rider, plus elite races at every stop of the series.

A FESTIVAL FOR ALL In terms of the festival, there will be something for everyone. Children and adults, newbies and experts alike, not forgetting those simply keen to try out a new sport. E-bike tests, Discovery Routes, and the famous Rando Gourmande, which will delight pleasure seekers. Each stage of the EBWT welcomes a Bosch e-MTB Challenge event, an international series offering a distinctive and amateur-friendly challenge with two difficulty options.

AND AN ELITE RACE Thanks to its unique format, the E-Bike World Tour is fast becoming known as the “constructors’ championship.” Leading brands use this competitive platform to test and demonstrate their bikes’ performance, just as the automobile industry uses the Dakar Rally. Forming part of the UCI E-MTB Cross-Country Marathon calendar, EBWT’s multi-day races include 3,000-5,000m of climbing and more than 100km distance per day in technical terrain.

Léa Deslandes (Haibike) and Jérôme Gilloux (Moustache, UCI e-bike World Champion) are names to watch in e-bike racing, but they have tough competition. The women’s ranks include the likes of former downhill World Champion Tracy Moseley (Trek/Bosch), former junior cross-country and e-bike World Champion Nathalie Schneitter (Trek/Bosch), and current UCI e-bike bronze medallist Sofia Wiedenroth (Specialized). In the men’s category, Olympic cross-country medallists Marco Aurelio Fontana (Focus) and Christoph Sauser (Specialized), and UCI e-bike silver medallist Hugo Pigeon (Scott) are just a selection of the riders lining up for 2022.

“It was already amazing to be able to compete in 2020 and 2021 with the whole pandemic situation but to finally have the 3 races in 2022 is very exciting. E-biking’s been growing so much, and I can’t wait to see how riders developed their skills as well as the step up in terms of bikes and components. I think this year will be one to remember for the industry and for the EBWT” – Marco A. Fontana (ITA), Bronze Medallist London 2012 Olympic & EBWT athlete

E-BIKING’S GRAND FESTIVAL This event, which shines a light on a booming sector, is an ideal catalyst for resorts looking to expand summer tourism and balance their year-round offering. In 2021, more than 4,000 participants visited the resorts of Tignes-Val d’Isère and Verbier to make the most of the festival activities at EBWT events. The Austrian resort of Flachau, where the event will be held for the first time in 2022, is already looking forward to hosting the event:

“Cycling and events have always been an important part of tourism in Flachau. As the mayor, I am therefore particularly delighted that a stop of the big E-Bike World Tour will take place in Flachau. We will support this great opportunity for our summer tourism in every way and I am already looking forward to welcoming numerous amateur and professional athletes for the first edition in Flachau”. – Thomas Oberreiter, Mayor of Flachau

The industry’s biggest names, including Haibike, Bosch, Lapierre, Ghost, and Commencal, supported the EBWT from the first moment. The event partners, joined by the sport’s most prestigious brands, overcame the challenge of making available 500 e-bikes per event despite a challenging year with shortages throughout the cycling industry (caused by the global pandemic plus a recent explosion of interest in e-biking).

Registration is now open, and the first 100 people to sign up will be rewarded with a 50% reduction.

E-Tour du Mont Blanc 2023

Watch the highlights of the 2023 edition of the E-Tour du Mont Blanc!

E-Bike World Tour

Join us for a 2-day bike race in the Swiss Alps, specifically in the beautiful Val de Bagnes, where you will discover the most stunning trails of the region. This race is open to both amateurs and professionals.

E-Tour du Mont Blanc

The E-Bike World Tour offers all riders who accept the challenge of multi-day e-bike races. Whether it's high alpine scenery or lush forests, riders can look forward to riding different terrains from stage to stage. And to spice things up a bit, there’s a bit of hike-a-bike here and there.

In 2022 we visited Flachau - Austria, Tignes & Val d’Isère high up in the French Alps and returned to Verbier for the E-Tour du Mont-Blanc. Each race was split into long-timed stages over 2-3 days with tech zones where battery exchanges are available. This creates a unique format in e- mountain biking. A 3-day race will likely cover around 200km of single trails, in a mix of lush forests and high alpine scenery.

In 2023, only one race will be held in Verbier: the E-Tour du Mont-Blanc .

2024 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Nove Mesto: preview, schedule and how to watch

Tom Pidcock in Nove Mesto

The first World Cup of the season in Europe, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic , will feature a host of champion riders making their first starts. Expect heated competition and a mix-up in the rankings at Nove Mesto, which will take place from 24 to 26 May .

This UCI Mountain Bike World Cup marks the fina l mountain bike Olympic qualifying event ahead of Paris 2024 . Nove Mesto will be the last chance for nations and athletes to secure an Olympic berth.

The stakes are even higher than Tokyo 2020 , as there are a maximum of two Olympic spots per country. National Olympic Committees ranked one through eight in the UCI MTB Olympic Qualification rankings can qualify two athletes, with those ranked nine to 19 allotted one athlete. Those nations and athletes just outside the rankings will leave nothing to chance as they strive for their final opportunity to add points. The final rankings will be announced following the event on 27 May.

  • How to qualify for mountain bike at Paris 2024

As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

Tom Pidcock top among men’s riders to watch at Nove Mesto

So far, in the men’s field, we’ve had two winners following the two season openers in Brazil: Team USA’s Christopher Blevins at Mairiporã and Denmark’s Simon Andreassen at Araxá.

Also showing impressive and consistent results is France’s Victor Koretzky , who’s currently leading the 2024 UCI XCO World Cup rankings following two second-place finishes in Mairiporã and Araxá.

But Nove Mesto will present a new challenger as Great Britain’s Tom Pidcock will be at the start line to defend his title. Pidcock , the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and 2023 UCI Mountain Bike World Champion, will make his first UCI World Cup start of the year at Nove Mesto as the reigning 2023 champ. Everyone will be looking to see how this multidisciplinary cyclist stacks up against the current points leaders.

However, the men's field will be missing one battle that will go unfought against Mathieu van der Poel, who recently announced that he will not be competing in mountain biking this season as he sets his focus singularly on road cycling.

Puck Pieterse is back among women riders to watch at Nove Mesto

In the women’s field, Sweden’s Jenny Rissveds and the USA’s Haley Batten have both stood atop the podium following the first two UCI World Cups of the season in Brazil. Batten currently leads the 2024 UCI XCO World Cup rankings, with Rissveds in second.

USA’s Savillia Blunk has also appeared on every podium, with second and third-place finishes, which puts her in third place in the UCI rankings.

But much like in the men’s division, the women will have to contend with new entries at this first European tour stop. One of those favorites is the 2023 XCC and XCO World Cup overall winner, Puck Pieterse of the Netherlands. Pieterse opted out of Brazil to focus on her road race debut in the Tour of Flanders—where she finished sixth in the rain. Pieterse also recently defended her title at the 2024 European XC Championships in Romania. She’ll be one to beat at Nove Mesto as the 2023 defending champion.

Also making their 2024 debuts on the UCI World Cup start list are World Champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot of France, who finished second at Nove Mesto in 2023, and Austria’s Mona Mitterwallner , who unfortunately missed the first two World Cups in Brazil after coming down with the flu.

Expect a new set of battles as the UCI World Cup sets foot in Europe for the first time this season.

Elite Schedule at UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Nove Mesto (All times local: UTC +2)

Saturday, 25 May

10:30 Women's XCC 11:05 Men's XCC

Sunday, 26 May

10:15 Women's XCO 14:00 Men's XCO

The complete schedule is available here .

How to watch UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Nove Mesto

Viewers can watch all the action from the UCI Mountain Bike World Series on Max, Eurosport channels, discovery+ and Max (in selected markets), and across several local and national broadcasters. Viewing information specific to each market can be found here .

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

world bike tour 2022

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

world bike tour 2022

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

world bike tour 2022

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

world bike tour 2022

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

world bike tour 2022

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

world bike tour 2022

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

world bike tour 2022

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Trek Roscoe 24

Trek Roscoe 24

Roscoe 24 is a mid-fat kids' mountain bike designed to build confidence on the trail. It takes cues from the adult Roscoe, but this ride was built from the ground up for kids. 2.8" mid-fat tires, a 1x drivetrain, and a wide-range cassette make Roscoe the ideal bike for little rippers who want to build skills and have a ridiculous amount of fun keeping up with Mom, Dad, or an older sibling. Fit for riders 51-59" tall. It's right for you if... Your little shredder is ready to hop off the neighborhood streets and onto the trail, and you want to get them started the right way with a real-deal mountain bike that builds skills and confidence from the outset. If you're looking to teach your little one the wisdom of the trail, there's no better teaching tool than Roscoe. The tech you get A durable Alpha Gold Aluminum frame with a sloping top tube for added clearance, 24" wheels with mid-fat 2.8" tires for added traction and stability, a 1x8 Shimano drivetrain with a wide-range cassette for hills and technical sections, mechanical disc brakes, and loads of thoughtful details borrowed from adult MTB tech, like a closed front dropout and a tucked-in rear brake caliper so when kids drop their Roscoe it doesn't mean an automatic trip to the shop for a replacement part. The final word Give a kid a Roscoe and you'll make a mountain biker for life. Mid-fat tires and a wealth of kid-specific design details make this bike the perfect introduction to the trail. If your little one is ready to tag along when you hit the singletrack, this is the kid-friendly set-up that's made to build confidence, skills, and a healthy obsession with the world's greatest activity. Why you'll love it - There's no family outing as fun as a trail session, and Roscoe is the ideal kids' bike for building great memories - This isn't a small adult bike—it's built from the ground up for kids, by people who know exactly what works for them and what doesn't - When you're learning to ride, simplicity is best: a 1x8 drivetrain lets kids focus on keeping the rubber side down - The kid-specific frame geometry has a sloping top tube that makes it easier to hop on and off - The rear brake caliper is tucked into the frame to help prevent damage from laying the bike down

In the world of yacht brokerage, each journey is unique, and mine has been a captivating ride from roads to waters. I am Nate Evans, a seasoned entrepreneur with a background in the automotive service industry; I’m excited to share my story and why I chose to embark on the maritime adventure with Jeff Brown Yachts.

From Roads to Waters: The Evolution

Growing up on the water in Wilmington, North Carolina, instilled in me a deep appreciation for the maritime world. With over two decades of experience in the automotive service industry, I found myself yearning for a new challenge. The transition from car engines to marine engines was a natural evolution, guided by a genuine passion for the sea.

Discovering the Axopar Culture

The pivotal moment occurred at the 2020 International Boat Show in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Axopar culture instantly resonated with me, offering not just a boat but a lifestyle. Connecting with Jeff Brown and sharing our enthusiasm for nautical adventures, I knew I had found an amazing team with JBY, Axopar and Brabus Marine.

Client-Centric Approach: More Than Just Transactions

What sets the journey with Jeff Brown Yachts apart is the commitment to clients as individuals. Purchasing a yacht is more than a financial transaction; it’s a lifestyle choice. The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

MCOCA court refuses bail to Chhota Shakeel’s henchman Papa Pathan

Special mcoca court denies bail to suspected henchman of chhota shakeel involved in extortion case, citing strong evidence of his involvement in the crime..

MUMBAI: A special MCOCA court recently denied the bail plea of a suspected henchman of Chhota Shakeel. He was arrested along with Mohammad Salim Iqbal Qureshi, also known as Salim Fruit, for allegedly threatening a city businessman and extorting ₹ 62 lakh from him.

HT Image

“The statements of witnesses relied on by the prosecution revealed the involvement of the applicant in the conspiracy and his connection with co-accused persons,” said special judge Rajesh Katariya while rejecting the bail plea of Javed Shabuddin Khan, also known as Papa Pathan.

The court noted that he had benefited in terms of a share of the extortion money and there was “ample material to show prima facie involvement of the applicant in the commission of the crime.” The extortion case was originally registered by the Versova police station on September 26, 2022. The complainant, a caterer who also trades in gold, told the police he met Riyaz Bhati, a suspected member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang. In February 2021, Bhati introduced him to Mohammed Salim Iqbal Qureshi, also known as Salim Fruit, a close relative of gangster Chhota Shakeel.

The complainant stated that he used to play cards at a club in Matunga run by Shekhar Shetty, also known as Shekhar Anna, where Salim Fruit also played. He claimed that in 2022 after Fruit won a card game, he began demanding an exorbitant sum of ₹ 62 lakh from him.

A week later, he said, Fruit started threatening the complainant for the payment and eventually forced him to part with his Range Rover, adjusting an amount of ₹ 30 lakh for the SUV. As he continued to threaten the complainant with dire consequences, the complainant paid an additional amount of ₹ 7 lakh to Fruit by transferring the amount to a bank account given by him. Besides, he was also forced to foot a hotel bill of ₹ 5.43 lakh incurred for Bhati’s birthday celebrations.

The case was transferred to the Crime Branch for investigation. Apart from Bhati, Fruit, and others, the Crime Branch also arrested Papa Pathan, claiming that he was involved in the conspiracy to extort money from the caterer and had received a share of the extortion money from the complainant. The Crime Branch later invoked stringent sections of the MCOCA in the case.

Pathan applied for bail to the special MCOCA court, claiming he was falsely implicated in the case and there was no material to suggest his links with the co-accused or that he was part of the extortion conspiracy. The special court, however, rejected his plea, stating that prima facie there was enough material to show his involvement in the crime. “The social media (Facebook) account snapshots filed with the charge sheet prima facie show the connection between the applicant and co-accused persons,” the court said.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
