Sky Trek Challenge

Llangorse multi activity centre.

Revised for 2017, the half day Sky Trek Challenge starts with a series of five interconnected zip lines and crossings, travelling through the trees between platforms.

The next challenge is a 23 metre (75 ft) pole climb – on reaching the top you’ll be able to observe the breathtaking landscape from a different perspective with unrivalled panoramic views across Llangorse Lake to the peaks of the Brecon Beacons.

You’ll then zip back to the ground, before moving indoors to try the 16 metre (52 ft) abseil to finish.

The Sky Trek system developed at Llangorse Multi Activity Centre is the first in Europe, if not the world, to use a true twin wire system, ensuring the ultimate in safety for our guests.

Sky Trek and Indoor Activity Great Fun

This was a family visit to the activity centre for the children and the adults, the children didn't want to leave at the end of the session. What more can you say. The cafe was clean and tidy and the view from the balcony over Llangorse Lake with the boats in sail was one of those to be filed away in the memory bank. We have used the centre with our Scouts and Explorer Scouts in the past and it still provides these exciting activities in a safe fun way.

It was the first time my wife and I tried climbing and we loved it. Our instructor was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with everything from showing us how to put the climbing gear on, to explaining how to do belaying and giving us tips and advice while climbing. We were in a small group with another couple and we all tried different climbing walls of various difficulty levels, abseiling, suspended bridge walking, real rock climbing indoors (yes, they actually brought rocks inside the centre and built a few climbing routes) and finally we tried the zip wire. I never thought that climbing is so demanding as it pushed us to use all kinds of muscles and articulations which we may not use on a daily basis but it's also so fulfilling. You feel great when you manage to reach the top and it also forces you to think, as the route to the top is not always as straightforward as you initially thought. Overall, it was a great experience which we'll definitely do again, despite the next day aching. And I highly recommend Llangorse Multi Acivity Centre. They were great all the way!

My partner and I opted for half a day horse trek with the Llangorse activity centre. Definitely recommend. The views were amazing, just a shame we couldn't have our phones for pictures. Half a day was 2 hours with some time to be mounted on the horse. We decided we would have preferred just an hour, 2 hours was a bit long and slow. Would have preferred more trotting. All in all, a lovely day out

Took our children here for the indoor activity session and they loved it. There was a good variety of climbing, caving, rope bridges and zip wiring to keep them amused for a few hours. Instructors were very friendly, informative and patient. Nice cafe offering a good range of drinks and food. Easy to find and lots of parking. Would recommend

Lets start out by saying if your hat is not unto the new BHS standards you can't use it, they will supply you with one that does. This might be off putting for some riders but I can confirm the hats were clean and new. We did a two hour hack and it cost £75 for two people. This is expensive compared to the price we are use to paying at places in Surrey and Sussex but then they don't have the views you have here in Powys. A young lady by the name of Bindi, sorry if i have her nickname wrong but she was very good and very sweet and conscientious towards my wife who was feeling a bit nervous. They do lessons which are very reasonably priced as well as clinics and variety of special days. I would reccomend treating yourself if you are in the area.

Spent two afternoons here - one on horseback and one where the kids did the indoor multi activity session. Both were excellent. The riding was up and across the hills with amazing views and very little road work made all the better by a beautiful spring day. The kids raved about the second afternoon which included climbing, caving, abseiling, rope bridges and zip wire. Cafe is also great with views over Llangorse Lake. Special thanks to Natalie and Holly who were both great too.

Things to do at Llangorse Lake – Activities Galore!

Written by: Gavin Evans Published on: July 5, 2018

best walks in the brecon beacons national park

Llangorse Lake, Brecon Beacons National Park

If you have a love for the outdoors and nature, there is a multitude of activities waiting for you. You will never be short of things to do at Llangorse Lake in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park.

Wondering what to do at Llangorse Lake?

On Easter Sunday, 2018, Didem and I jumped in the car and headed to Llangorse Lake. Didem had never been there, and I was returning for the first time in 34 years.

A childhood friend of mine used to live in a nearby village, and I have fond memories of my time spent holidaying in Llangorse as a 10-year-old boy.

Returning all these years later was certainly no disappointment. It was just as beautiful as I remembered. The largest natural lake in South Wales sits in the shadow of Mynydd Troed and Mynydd Llangorse to the east and Pen-y-Fan to the southwest, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons.

We had a super day enjoying our version of the and also had time to check out the information centre at the Lakeside Caravan Park reception.

We realised how much was on offer for the activity-minded individual or family. We, therefore, felt it necessary to put together a comprehensive post detailing all the amazing things to do at Llangorse Lake.

How to get to Llangorse Lake?

To help you with your Llangorse Lake directions, we have included this Llangorse Lake map:

Although it is nestled in the northern part of the Brecon Beacons National Park , Llangorse Lake is easily accessible owing to the decent road network running close by. As you can see from the map, the north/south A470 and the east/west A40 come within a few miles of the lake.

Llangorse Lake Parking

There is ample free parking at Llangorse Lake but do be aware that this is a popular destination, and spaces may fill quickly during school holidays and on weekends. If you use a Sat Nav, you may wish to know that the Llangorse Lake postcode is LD3 7TR .

Llangorse Lake Activities

If you like to have fun, there is an abundance of Llangorse Lake activities to keep you occupied all day. If getting out on the water floats your boat (pardon the pun), there are plenty of watercraft options that may interest you:

Llangorse Lake Boat Hire

You can do that if you fancy a gentle pootle around the lake in a pedalo or rowing boat. If, on the other hand, you are looking for something a little more energetic, then you may wish to take out a canoe or kayak. Visit the Llangorse Lake boat hire prices page to check out the cost of your preferred watercraft rental.

Llangorse Lake Boating

Is the thought of sailing on Llangorse Lake more your thing? Head to Llangorse Lake Sailing Club and check out the sailboat varieties available to hire, depending on your experience level.

Are you interested in taking a sailing course? Llangorse Sailing Club is an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Recognised Training Centre (RTC). Look at the range of official RYA courses available for all ages.

Water Skiing/Wake Boarding on Llangorse Lake

Water skiing and wakeboarding are also popular pastimes on Llangorse Lake. If you have your boat and equipment, you can enjoy these activities in this idyllic setting within the Brecon Beacons National Park. For further details, visit the water skiing/wakeboarding charges and rules page.

If you don’t have the luxury of owning a boat or equipment and require some instruction, the Llangorse Lake Water Ski Club should be your next port of call.

Llangorse Lake Fishing

If you enjoy fishing, you will love the 400-acre Llangorse Lake. If you wait until October, when the pleasure boats are moored for the season, you can enjoy the lake at its tranquil best! Although the lake is renowned for its pike fishing, it also holds stocks of perch, roach, bream, tench, and eels.

Fishing is not permitted on the shores of Llangorse Lake owing to the many SSSIs (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) and conservation areas. Therefore, it is only possible to fish directly from boats.

Llangorse Lake Fishing Prices

Whether you have your boat or not, you can enjoy fishing on Llangorse Lake.

If you need to hire a fishing boat, visit the boat hire prices page . If you have your boat that you plan to use, you will need to check the permit and launch prices page .

Where can you see the Northern Lights in the UK tonight?

  • Northern Lights
  • Saturday 11 May 2024 at 8:12pm

sky trek llangorse

The Northern Lights were visible for much of the UK on Friday night and could be visible again on Saturday, as ITV News' Alex Iszatt reports.

By ITV News Producer Hannah Ward-Glenton

The Northern Lights dazzled huge swaths of the UK on Friday night thanks to an “extreme” geomagnetic storm, with further solar storms expected on Saturday.

The Aurora Borealis was best visible in Whitley Bay on the north east coast, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Wokingham in Berkshire.

It was also spotted in Suffolk, Kent, Hampshire and Liverpool, and was even visible in parts of London.

So can you spot them tonight if you missed out on Friday?

When and where can you see the Northern Lights tonight?

ITV News meteorologist and weather presenter Chris Page said it is "likely" the Northern Lights will be visible this evening.

"Tonight the solar storms are likely to continue and are likely to be visible again. However, the storm is reducing in intensity and it's thought the display won't be as potent as last night.

"Likely to see it best between 10.30pm-2am where light pollution levels are reduced."

The Met Office also said it was likely to be less strong on Saturday night, but most of the north of England and almost all of Scotland would be able to see the lights between 10pm and 2am.

It added that weaker sightings were possible further south.

Craig Snell, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “It is hard to fully predict what will happen in the Earth’s atmosphere, but there will still be enhanced solar activity tonight, so the lights could be visible again in northern parts of the UK, including Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England."

Sightings in southern parts of the UK are less likely on Saturday, although Mr Snell said the lights might be visible through a strong camera lens.

While short nights limit the visibility window, there’s a "good chance" of sightings on Saturday night, especially across Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England and Wales, a Met Office spokesperson told ITV News.

"There could be some visibility further south, especially with long-exposure cameras."

Visibility of the Aurora Borealis will continue into Sunday night, but cloud across the UK, particularly in the West, is likely to obscure the view.

Areas in the East have the best chance at spotting the colourful skies again on Sunday, the Met Office said.

Top viewing tips

Chris Page provided his tips for spotting the Aurora Borealis:

Look to the northern horizon: The aurora is drawn towards the polar regions of the Earth. As a result you might not be able to see it directly overhead, but as it happens so high in sky look towards the northern horizon where it's likely to be dancing.

You can see it with the naked eye but cameras tend to capture it better. This is because cameras can adapt to different wave lengths better than our eyes. Give yourself time to adjust, at least 10 minutes.

Find dark, open spaces: Seek out locations away from city lights and other sources of light pollution. Open fields, parks, or remote areas with unobstructed views of the northern horizon are ideal for aurora watching.

Be patient and persistent: Seeing the aurora requires patience and persistence, as it can be unpredictable and may not appear every night, even during periods of high activity. Stay flexible with your plans and be prepared to wait for hours if necessary.

Use long exposures for photography: If you're interested in photographing the aurora, use a camera with manual settings and a tripod to capture long exposures. Experiment with different exposure times and ISO settings to achieve the best results.

Stay up late: Auroras are often most active in the late evening to early morning hours, so plan to stay up late or wake up early for the best chance of seeing a spectacular display.

How often do we see the Northern Lights?

It's rare that the Northern Lights are this visible in the UK.

Friday night's display has been classified as a G5 Extreme Solar Storm by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

This last happened in October 2003.

What's the science behind the Northern Lights?

Charged particles from the sun, primarily electrons and protons, collide with gases in the Earth's atmosphere, typically oxygen and nitrogen.

These collisions emit light at various wavelengths, creating vibrant displays of colour in the sky, often appearing as curtains, arcs, or bands of light.

The colours are determined by the type of gas particles involved and the altitude at which the collisions occur.

Greens appear due to interactions with oxygen, red is from oxygen in the upper atmosphere while blues and purples are due to the interaction of nitrogen.

How can I see the northern lights in the UK tonight?

Scientist explains how, when and where to see the northern lights, or aurora borealis, in the UK on Saturday evening

The northern lights might be visible in parts of the UK again on Saturday after the rare phenomenon was spotted across the country overnight.

An “extreme” geomagnetic storm caused the lights, also known as aurora borealis, to be more visible on Friday evening – delighting millions of people across the northern hemisphere.

And for those who missed out, a second chance could arise.

Chris Snell, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said there were sightings “from top to tail across the country”.

Looking ahead to Saturday night, he said: “It is hard to fully predict what will happen in the Earth’s atmosphere, but there will still be enhanced solar activity tonight, so the lights could be visible again in northern parts of the UK, including Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England.”

People visit St Mary's lighthouse in Whitley Bay.

He advised those hoping to see the lights on Saturday to head to an area with low light pollution and to use a good camera.

“The best chance you have of seeing the lights is if you are away from street lights and areas with lots of light pollution, as any type of light does have a big effect,” he said.

“Also, at this time of year, we are fighting the shorter length of nights, so it is unlikely that they will be visible until around 10.30pm or 11 o’clock when it gets really dark.”

Sightings in southern parts of the UK would be less likely on Saturday, although Snell said the lights might be visible through a strong camera lens.

The National Monument of Scotland in Edinburgh on May 10.

Aurora displays occur when charged particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere around the magnetic poles.

In the northern hemisphere, most of this activity takes place within a band known as the aurora oval, covering latitudes between 60 and 75 degrees.

When activity is strong, this expands to cover a greater area, which explains why displays can be occasionally seen as far south as the UK.

Reality star Georgia Harrison says leaked sex video filmed without consent spread like 'house fire'

Georgia Harrison told MPs on the Women And Equalities Committee about her ordeal and how difficult it was "getting through" to these "big social media companies" to report something.

Reality star Georgia Harrison has told MPs how the leaking of a video of herself having sex with Stephen Bear - filmed without her consent - spread like a "house fire".

Former Celebrity Big Brother winner Bear left prison in January, having served 10-and-a-half months of his 21-month sentence for sharing a film of him having sex with Harrison on his OnlyFans site.

Harrison told MPs on the Women And Equalities Committee the video - recorded without her knowledge - "went viral to a point I can't explain" as it spread round multiple sites and was circulated on WhatsApp.

She added: "It absolutely horrified me that an individual had done this to me but what most horrified me was that these platforms were hosting these videos that were unconsented.

"For many that I tried to reach out to I got an automated response saying we will get back to you within four to six days.

"When something like this is happening it really is like a house fire and the quicker you can put it out, the quicker you can stop it.

"Unfortunately, in four to six days your house has burnt down, everyone knows about this video - your family, your workplace, your peers, it's too late."

Stephen Bear gave a thumbs-up as he arrived at court. Pic: PA

Discussing her ordeal, Harrison added: "I feel like one of the biggest challenges in general is these big social media companies who are hosting pornographic images and videos, they don't have any way of us getting through to them to report it when there is something unconsented there.

"It shouldn't be robots that you get through to when it's this important a situation, it shouldn't be that hard to get through to someone.

"I'm not saying delete it, I'm not saying take this person's account down, I'm just saying can we pause it and then review it in a few weeks and I think that is the biggest issue we are dealing with at the moment."

Harrison added: "But I think if something gets to the level where you say this is me in a sexually explicit act and I have not given permission, it should be paused that day, not in four to six days."

'I ended up being physically ill'

On discovering the video was online, she said: "For the first few days, I was really just going through waves of complete sorrow and shock.

"It got to the point where I was so emotionally affected by what happened to me that I ended up being physically ill as well to the point where I was in hospital for five days over Christmas a little bit after the incident because the stress took such an effect on my body.

"I ended up having a cyst burst and I got an infection and literally it was just like my body deteriorated with my emotions."

Harrison said the footage should be made illegal - and admitted it had given her "a lot of fear" over starting a family.

She said: "I know whenever I'm dating, meeting new people going into any sort of a new work opportunity, I am known as the person who has this sex tape which I never ever filmed and never consented to be out there.

"So it changed a lot for me and it definitely gives me a lot of fear for one day, if I do have a family, which is something that was always my intention, are my children going to be able to stumble across this footage?"

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

sky trek llangorse

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

sky trek llangorse

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

sky trek llangorse

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

sky trek llangorse

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

sky trek llangorse

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

sky trek llangorse

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

sky trek llangorse

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
