SABATON: Gothenburg Concert Filmed For Upcoming DVD; Video Available

A series of clips from last night's (Friday, November 16) SABATON concert at Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden can be seen below. The entire show was professionally filmed and recorded for the band's upcoming DVD and Blu-ray, tentatively due in 2013. The band states, "A huge thanks to the fantastic crowd! This was an amazing night that we never will forget!"

SABATON has just finished headlining the "Swedish Empire Tour" with support from ELUVEITIE and WISDOM .

SABATON 's new album, "Carolus Rex" , was certified gold in the group's home country for sales in excess of 20,000 copies. (Note: The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry [ IFPI ] in Sweden has revised the sales requirements for albums to reach gold status in the country twice in the last seven years — from the pre-2002 level of 40,000 to the current 20,000.)

"Carolus Rex" was released on May 22 via Nuclear Blast Records . The lyrics for the CD, which was made available in both English and Swedish, deal with the Swedish Empire (referring to the Kingdom of Sweden between 1561 and 1721).

SABATON earlier in the year parted ways with guitarists Oskar Montelius and Rikard Sundén , drummer Daniel Mulback and keyboardist Daniel Mÿhr . The band's new touring lineup is as follows:

Since Sabaton's inception on the threshold of the 21st century in the picturesque Swedish town of Falun, this heavy metal giant has conquered milestone after milestone, reached quadruple Platinum sales, and performed mega-sized concerts all over the world. However, despite Sabaton's never-ending passion for writing explosive tales about remarkable historical turning points, these relentless brave hearts have always had just one crystal-clear goal: to march fearlessly towards the next battles. Sabaton's ninth studio recording, The Great War, was released on July 19, 2019. To support The Great War, Sabaton hit the road with "The Great Tour," beginning with several festival appearances, including the band's 20th-year anniversary headline spot on the holy grounds of Wacken Open Air. From there, the band headlined a North America run in the fall of 2019, then took "The Great Tour" throughout Europe in January and February 2020, and then were off for a five-week tour of Russia and Belarus in March. Sabaton was able to play nine of those dates before COVID-19 forced them to cancel the rest of the shows.

For ninety-nine percent of comrades, a series of successful studio albums and voluminous world tours would be enough. Well, not for these warlords. Sabaton’s tenth album, The War to End All Wars, will be released on March 4, 2022 (Nuclear Blast). Written and recorded in 2021 during the COVID global pandemic, the band has crafted a concept album of 11 brand new songs that dive deep into previously unexplored atrocities, miracles and events tied to the early 20th century's World War I. With the release of The War to End All Wars, fans can expect a wealth of single releases, each one accompanied by a compelling and emotional music video that will breathe life into the fact-based story behind the song. In addition, the album will be available in an impressive variety of exclusive formats, including CD, vinyl, and cassette, most available in limited editions, both in terms of quantities available and by territory. With the addition of Sabaton’s global touring schedule, look for The War To End All Wars to have a multi-year cycle.

Sabaton Kicks off North American Tour at the Paramount Theater

After a long and frustrating two-year wait, Sabaton ( Joakim Brodén/Vocals, Pär Sundström/Bass, Chris Rörland/Guitar, Tommy Johansson/Guitar, and Hannes Van Dahl/Drums ) is back on tour and headed to our neck of the woods. 

Loaded with high-intensity, fiery riffs, thunderous bass, pounding drums, and signature gruff baritone vocals, the multi-Platinum Swedish hard rock/metal band will bring its nineteen country “The Tour To End All Tours” to North America for a 25-date run. 

These dates launch on September 15 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle and will wrap at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on October 23 (go  HERE  for dates & more info).  The tour is in celebration of Sabaton’s new album,  The War To End All Wars , which was released March 4 ( Nuclear Blast ).

In the more than two decades since their launch, Swedish metallers Sabaton have achieved quadruple-platinum sales, headlined major festivals, and sold-out arena concerts across the globe, and earned a legion of loyal fans by carving out a reputation as one of the hardest working bands in rock.  Sabaton combines standout stage design and production with epic concept albums, linking real-life historical war events with classic kick-ass metal.  To date, the band has released ten studio albums, amassed six GOLD, two PLATINUM, and one four-times-PLATINUM awards, seen eight of its albums score Top 10 international chart status, and six claim the Top 5.  The band has earned eight  Metal Hammer/ Golden Gods Awards nominations, taking home the award for “Breakthrough Artist” in 2011 and “Best Live Band” in three different years, and a Grammis nomination (Swedish equivalent to the U.S. GRAMMY) as Best Heavy Metal band.  Sabaton has also accumulated more than two billion streams across all streaming platforms.

Beyond Platinum albums and sold-out arena tours, Sabaton hosts its annual three-day concert festival, “Sabaton Open Air,” at the Lugnet ski stadium in Sweden, as well as the annual, always sold out Sabaton Cruise that sails out of Stockholm for epic sea adventures, rocking the ship with fellow metalheads, and lots of SABATON.  Sabaton has also launched “Sabaton History Channel,” that combines the power of YouTube, music, and storytelling to dive into the true-life stories behind every Sabaton song, bringing history to life in an informative and entertaining way.  Sabaton’s Pär Sundstöm and Joakim Brodén are joined by the renowned historian Indy Neidell, of “The Great War” and “WW Two in Real Time” fame.

The “Tour To End All Tours” kicked off this past April with a 29-date tour of the band’s home country of Sweden, and has subsequently played shows in Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and Denmark.  Included on the European run have been performances at major festivals such as Download Germany, Hellfest (France), Resurrection Fest (Spain), Out In the Green (Switzerland), VOA Heavy Rock Festival (Portugal), Jailbreak Festival (Denmark), and the band’s own Sabaton Open Air in Falun, Sweden.

Swedish power-metal titans Sabaton continue to explore the Great War

Founded in 1999, Swedish power-metal veterans Sabaton cast a microscopic gaze on the horrors of war with a sweeping, majestic, and anthemic sound that walks the line between empathizing with humans on the battlefield and glorifying the unglorifiable. Their records deliver poetic lessons in military history (usually European), and though they aim to stay as free of controversy as possible, that goal isn’t completely realistic given the themes of their songs and the realities of the world we live in. Sabaton released The War to End All Wars (Nuclear Blast) in March, along with a symphonic version a few weeks later. A follow-up to 2019’s The Great War , the album continues the band’s deep dive into World War I. The songs are solid through and through, and the stories they share are memorable; “The Unkillable Soldier” tells the brutally inspiring tale of a famously indestructible Belgian, while “Race to the Sea” is an edge-of-the-seat drama about the Battle of Yser, in which Belgian forces held the line against an advancing German army.

The so-called Christmas truce—brief unofficial ceasefires that became widespread across the Western Front in December 1914—has become a corny, metaphorically abused cliche in pop culture. But Sabaton’s take on it (in the song “Christmas Truce”) is touching in its bittersweet earnestness, especially contrasted with the deliberate false optimism of the following track, “Versailles.” Sabaton aren’t breaking new ground with The War to End All Wars , and they’re less interested in doing so than in further refining what they do best. With the world in the state it is, they’ll never run out of material.

That said, they’re hardly done exploring the trenches of WWI. Last month, they dropped a surprise EP, Weapons of the Modern Age , the first installation in a trilogy about the mechanical and technological horrors of the Great War, and its six songs include the charging (“The Red Baron”), the eerie (“The Attack of the Dead Men”), and the heavy (“Dreadnought”). Sabaton were here last year opening for Judas Priest at Rosemont Theatre, and this concert is part of a rescheduled headlining tour intended for the spring.

SABATON Announces Massive Post-Pandemic Concert Schedule: North American Trek with JUDAS PRIEST, Major Euro Festivals And 2022’s European “The Tour To End All Tours”

Emerging from COVID lockdown, multi-Gold and Platinum Swedish metal band SABATON will tour North America as main support on Judas Priest ’s 36-city, “50 Years of Metal” trek that starts on September 8 in Reading, PA.  The U.S. and Canadian dates will mark Sabaton ’s first time sharing a stage with Judas Priest and its first North American tour since 2018.  Prior to the Judas Priest tour, SABATON will top the bill at two major European festivals:  July 9 at Exitfest, held at the Petrovaradin Fortress, Serbia, and the Czech Republic’s Rock Castle on August 20.  The Spring of 2022 will see Sabaton bring its ground-breaking and breathtaking live shows to 26 cities in 17 European countries – “The Tour To End All Tours.”   The complete itinerary is below; for all ticket purchasing info, visit this location .

“ Bigger, better, and more metal than ever ,” said Sabaton’s bassist Pär Sundström .  “ We are joining Judas Priest for an eight-week tour in North America this autumn, and guess if we are excited…Until then, COVID-19 can go to hell.”

On the upcoming North American dates with J udas Priest , SABATON –  Sundström , vocalist  Joakim Brodén , guitarists  Tommy Johansson  and  Chris Rörland , and  Hannes Van Dahl on drums – the three-time winner of  Metal Hammer ’s Golden Gods Award as Best Live Band – will focus the setlist on their most recent album, 2019’s “ The Great War ,” fan-favorites such as “Primo Victoria,” “To Hell and Back,” “Carolus Rex,” “The Last Stand,” and some surprises.  SABATON is known for its high-intensity, operatic heavy metal, juxtaposed with narratives that recount the harrowing yet epic tales of real-life historical battles and the brave men and women who fought in them.

“ History can be very boring because it’s far away and detached ,” said vocalist Brodén .  “ But everybody loves a good story, so what we do is tell stories, personal and true stories.  We paint pictures with our lyrics and music, and our live shows, and try to bring history to life. ”
