Yes, all ports have transfer services to and from the airport at an additional fee.

If you don’t use the air to sea program for your flight reservations, can you still reserve a port shuttle through RC? Or should we just Uber? Flying into MIA. Thanks.

Yes my TA can book the shuttle for me.

Miami?  Uber/Lyft is the way to go.

Less expensive and quicker for us to use Uber to the airport, and no waiting for the shuttle to fill.

I agree, I do not know why so many want to use a shuttle.

I use it, as i have a 2 and 4 year old and don't have to lug around car seats.  Private transportation with car seats is usually a lot more expensive.

Sorry but I would rather spend more and save time than wait for their shuttles to fill up.  You may not have had that issue but it can be an hour or 2 sometimes of waiting for other passengers. 

Thanks to all the responses. Totally agree about waiting for the shuttles to fill up. That is a pain. We will probably just Uber over there as our flight lands at 9:15. I don’t feel like hanging around the airport. Thank you.

Almost anything is cheaper and faster than the RCI shuttle if you have two people.

Is Carnival Thinking About Ditching “Sail & Sign” Cards?

Could one of the most universal aspects of a Carnival cruise be up for a change?

Anyone that has cruised Carnival is familiar with the “Sail & Sign” card. This credit-card sized piece of plastic is issued as you board the ship and is arguably the most important thing you’ll carry during the trip. It serves as your room key to open your door and also as a way to make purchases around the ship.

They are also a fashion statement as many passengers wear them on lanyards and show off their color, which is different depending on your loyalty status on the cruise line. 

If a couple of Facebook posts from Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald are a hint, however, the cruise line could be considering making a change to the card system.

On Friday, Heald, who often asks all sorts of questions of his nearly 600,000 followers, posed a relatively innocuous question :

“Wristbands – more and more people asking for then [sic] to replace the Sail and Sign cards. Are you one of them?”

The roughly 7,000 comments ran the gamut with some in favor and some opposed. Overall, it seemed that many passengers commented they preferred the traditional cards to a wristband, though it wasn’t a landslide.

Normally this sort of question wouldn’t pique our interest. It would just be one of the many that the Carnival Ambassador asks regularly. However, just hours later Heald asked about the topic for a second time .

To us, asking about cards versus wristbands multiple times in such a short timespan seems to point that it’s at least something that is being thought about. To be sure, there has been no change announced and nothing could come of it . Still, it’s worth noting.

Of the more than 10,000 comments (people are very passionate about the subject!), the vast majority said they preferred either the current card system or having a wristband. The use of a phone to act as your room key and spending device, however, was nearly universally panned.

“I am not interested in using my phone anymore on ship. Using my phone for pictures is enough,” one poster replied.

“I can’t keep a charge on my phone and don’t want [to be] locked out of my room,” wrote another.

If Carnival did switch from a card to a wristband, they would not be the first to do so.

For instance, Princess (which is owned by the same parent company) has long used a “medallion” that is worn on your wrist or in a necklace. The quarter-sized device is able to be read from a scanner and works just like a card.

Virgin Voyages also uses wristbands in lieu of cards. When you arrive at your room, you simply press the band against the door reader, the device is read, and it automatically unlocks. It’s the same technique when you purchase something onboard or when entering/leaving the ship.

We’re not entirely sure why some cruise lines prefer wristbands versus cards. However, we do know that the medallion on Princess offers the ability to track passengers around the vessel. For instance, you can have a drink or food delivered not just to your room, but anywhere that you are on the ship.

One thing that will also need to be taken into account is that many passengers like to collect their Sail & Sign cards as souvenirs from the cruise. As well, many passengers like to use the card’s color to show off their status on the ship. That’s something that even John Heald pointed out in the comments:

Again, there’s no change as of now. If Carnival officially decides to move from cards to wristbands (or any other method), we’ll let you know.

Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise ships leave from Baltimore for the first time since the collapse of the Key Bridge

Cruise ships left the Port of Baltimore for the first time since March 26.

The port's terminal was blocked after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed and killed six workers.

Rebuilding the bridge will take four years and could cost up to $1.9 billion.

Two months after Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, cruise ships are now taking off from the Port of Baltimore.

A Royal Caribbean ship called Vision of the Seas left from the port on Saturday for a trip to Bermuda. And a Carnival Cruise ship called Pride destined for Greenland and Canada left Baltimore on Sunday.

The two trips are notable as the first cruise ships to leave Baltimore since the port was blocked by the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26. The bridge collapsed after being hit by a cargo ship, killing six workers. The Francis Scott Key Bridge services about 30,000 people a day.

"We've been working through this process for the past two months," Jonathan Daniels, the director for the Port of Baltimore said in a video posted to X on May 25 by the port.

One week ago, the port's terminal was the headquarters for the recovery operations for the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Daniels added. The terminal is also a massive area of tourism for Maryland, bringing in 440,000 cruise passengers a year, Daniels told the Baltimore Sun.

The project to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge will take four years and is estimated to cost between $1.7 billion and $1.9 billion, a spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Transportation said in May 2023.

A company that posted a discriminatory job advertisement seeking only white candidates has been fined by the federal government and come to separate agreements with the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Labor as punishment, according to officials. 2 inmates on the run after escaping Louisiana jail, police say

Police in Louisiana said Monday they caught two of the four inmates who escaped from jail over the weekend, unbeknownst to the guards who were supposed to be watching them. Omarion Hookfin, 19; Avery Guidry, 19; Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, and Travon Johnson, 21, who were all incarcerated at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail, escaped through a weak portion of the jail's chain-linked fence on Saturday and Sunday, Chief Jimmy Travis of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office told reporters during a news conference Monday. The jail's officials did not know about the breakouts until they received a phone call Sunday afternoon from a family member of one of the escapees, Travis said.
