10 PHILIPPINE ROAD TRIP DESTINATIONS: From Manila, Cebu, and More!

10 PHILIPPINE ROAD TRIP DESTINATIONS: From Manila, Cebu, and More!

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double-check with the concerned establishments for the latest updates.

Rainy days are here again!

You know what that means: the weather is more unpredictable. But you should never let less sunshiny skies rain on your parade. The rainy season is when Vins and I love going on road trips with our friends!

road trip destinations philippines

This post is brought to you by Pepsi.[/caption] For budget travelers like us, the rainy season is a great time to explore. Some destinations are much better during this time: waterfalls are grander, beaches are less crowded, and wildlife is more alive! The best part: It’s off season! Hotel and resort stays are much cheaper!

Don’t let the season stop you from exploring! We’ve asked some of our travel blogger friends for some of their road trip route recommendations and we’ll be sharing that in this post.

But before that, some important tips to turn your road trip into an awesome journey by making sure you get your money’s worth.

  • The more, the merrier, the cheaper . You get the full experience when the barkada is complete! It’s also a lot cheaper because you get to split the costs of everything. In general, the cost of family rooms and dorm rooms divided among the group is lower than a double room. At restaurants, “for sharing” meals split among the group costs much less than individual orders.

road trip destinations philippines

  • Ask for the hotel’s policy on extra beds . Most hotels allow extra beds for a minimum fee! You can take advantage of this to save on hotel expenses.
  • Buy food, drinks, and toiletries before leaving . They are generally more expensive if you buy at the resort or hotel. You’ll save a great deal if you bring your own provision.

road trip destinations philippines

  • Watch out for potential savings! Even small discounts matter. They add up over time. Hotel-booking sites often offer deals like free breakfast during off-season. Take it! When it comes to drinks, a road trip won’t be the same without Pepsi. Choose a 1.5L bottle of Pepsi, which costs only P38! That’s a P10 drop from its usual price and much lower than other brands. Every peso your barkada saves collectively can be used to fund other activities along the way!

road trip destinations philippines

  • Buy in bulk! It will help bring down cost. Instead of buying individual sunscreens, just buy a big one and share. Grab 1.5L bottles of Pepsi and just pour into your own reusable cups! It’s more sulit that way.

Without further ado, here are some recommended road trip itineraries, as picked by travel bloggers! The first seven can be done from Manila.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

MANILA-SORSOGON ROAD TRIP ITINERARY

Perfect for residents of: Manila, Southern Luzon

A post shared by Kara Santos | TRAVEL UP (@karasantos) on Dec 21, 2015 at 8:36pm PST

When it comes to road trips, no one is more credible in the Philippine blogosphere than Kara Santos of Travel-up . Her pick: Manila to Sorsogon. It’s one of the more popular road trip routes in the country. You can adjust your itinerary depending on the number of stops and how much time you want to spend in each place. The suggestion below is a very relaxed itinerary, where you can still spend some quality time in the major stops (Quezon, Naga City & Sorsogon).

Day 1: Manila to Quezon (passing the Laguna backroads) Scenic drive through Laguna backroads, stopover at Pililla Windmills Lunch in the Pagsanjan area; drive to Lucban Check into Batis Aramin Resort in Lucban, Quezon Kamay ni Hesus (optional)

Day 2: Quezon to Naga City Drive from Lucban, Quezon to Naga City, Camarines Sur Pass the Old Zigzag Road Stopover photo ops at Gumaca Arrive in Naga City Check in to chosen hotel Food Trip / Dinner at Bob Marlin’s/ Coffee at Travel Cafe Camsur WaterPark (optional)

Day 3: Naga to Sorsogon Drive from Naga City to Sorsogon For a more scenic route, pass the Tiwi-Sangay Road instead of the highway Stop for DJC Halo-Halo Lunch somewhere in Legazpi City Continue Driving to Sorsogon City Check into chosen hotel in Sorsogon

TIP: You can cut this road trip to two (or even one day) if you leave really early on the first day and make minimal stops, but this can be very tiring.

BATANGAS BEACHES ROAD TRIP ITINERARY

Perfect for residents of: Manila, Batangas, Southern Luzon

road trip destinations philippines

My personal pick is Batangas. I’m biased, of course, because I was born and raised here. It is a blessed land. It cradles a wide array of diverse landscapes — a scenic lake, spectacular diving sites, breathtaking rivers, fertile farm lands, enchanting mountains, and a volcano.

But what most people love about Batangas is its beaches! This route will take you to some of the province’s most stunning ivory coasts!

Suggested Route:

Day 1: Lipa City to Laiya Drive to Lipa City for a quick lunch Head to your resort in Laiya in San Juan, where you will spend the night Hit the beach

Day 2: Laiya to Malabrigo to Anilao Visit Malabrigo Beach Climb to Malabrigo Lighthouse Lunch in Batangas City Drive to Anilao and check-in Hit the pool

Day 3: Tingloy Island-Hopping From Anilao, go island-hopping (Sombrero Island, Oscar Beach, Masasa Beach) Check out

PANGASINAN-LA UNION ROAD TRIP ITINERARY

Perfect for residents of: Baguio, Manila, Northern Luzon, Central Luzon

For Senyorita Micaela Rodriguez, the answer is definitely Pangasinan and La Union. Her beloved hometown has a lot to offer to tired and weary city souls.  This trip takes you from Bolinao in Pangasinan to the trendy Urbiztondo Beach in La Union, making a stop at the Hundred Islands along the way.

road trip destinations philippines

It’s a great long weekend itinerary not just for Manila-residents but even more for those in Northern and Central Luzon!

Mica’s suggested long weekend itinerary is as follows:

Day 1: Bolinao Arrival in Pangasinan Visit Cape Bolinao Lighthouse Visit St. James Church Visit Patar Beach and watch sunset

Day 2: Bolinao to Alaminos Check out Drive to Alaminos and check in Visit Hundred Islands Park

Day 3: Alaminos to Urbiztondo Check out and drive to San Juan, La Union Check in at hotel/resort Laze/surf at Urbiztondo Beach

Day 4 – Tangadan Falls Visit Tangadan Falls Check out

ZAMBALES BEACHES ROAD TRIP ITINERARY

Perfect for residents of: Manila, Central Luzon

road trip destinations philippines

Ada Wilkinson of Travel in Boots recommends Zambales especially to students. “It should be on top of their list,” she writes.

Zambales has a lot to offer. Subic remains a good choice. Potipot has always been an open secret. Lately, San Narciso and Liwliwa in San Felipe are also starting to get noticed! And although San Antonio’s ashen coves like Anawangin and Nagsasa are inaccessible for land vehicles, visitors can easily park their cars in Pundaquit and return after a day trip.

Day 1: San Antonio Coves Drive to Pundaquit. Park your car and hop onto a boat to the coves. Visit Anawangin Cove, Nagsasa Cove and stay overnight

Day 2: San Felipe or San Narciso Go back to Pundaquit Drive to Liwliwa or Crystal Beach Stay overnight

Day 3: Subic Shopping Check out! Drive to Subic Shopping!

LAGUNA ROAD TRIP ITINERARY

road trip destinations philippines

Asta Alvarez of WanderGeneration.com champions Laguna in this list! Laguna is one of the provinces we often overlook partly because its edges aren’t laced with pearly beaches. Joke’s on us because paradise isn’t always made of sand and saltwater. Much of Laguna is almost untouched, still covered with dense rainforests concealing several magnificent waterfalls. Many of its historic towns retain many pieces of its glorious past. And its cuisine showcases some of the best of the Southern Tagalog region.

Here’s a sample road trip route:

DAY 1 – CALAMBA & SAN PABLO Drive to Rizal Shrine, Calamba Proceed to Pandin Lake and have lunch on bamboo raft Check-in at Sulyap Bed and Breakfast Sulyap Swimming Pool & Jacuzzi

DAY 2 – LUISIANA & CAVINTI Check out and leave for Nagcarlan Stop at Nagcarlan Underground Cemetery Visit Liliw town (or if you skipped breakfast at Sulyap, have it at Chef Mau’s in Liliw) Trek to Hulugan Falls in Luisiana Trek to Cavinti Falls (Pueblo El Salvador) Leave for Caliraya Lake Check in at Caliraya Springs Mountain Lake Resort

DAY 3 – CALIRAYA LAKE & PAETE Caliraya Lake swimming, biking Check out, leave for Paete Paete Tour, shopping, lunch Leave for Pililla, Rizal BONUS! Pililla Windmills Stopover

ILOCOS ROAD TRIP ITINERARY

Perfect for residents of: Manila, Baguio, Northern Luzon, Central Luzon

road trip destinations philippines

For Gael Hilotin of The Pinay Solo Backpacker , Ilocos is an old favorite. It has everything one can ever ask for in a destination. Rich heritage, check. Irresistible cuisine, check. Beaches, check. In her suggested itinerary, your journey begins in Sta. Weekend Getaways from Manila : Anilao Batangas

Due to its close proximity, a visit to Batangas is usually combined with Tagaytay as one of the options for weekend getaways from Manila. Besides, with its varying pristine beaches, delicious food, and stunning views, there are tons of things to do that can fill up your itinerary.

Batangas is a huge province and towns like Calatagan, Nasugbu, Mabini, San Juan, and Tingloy are just one of the many places where you can enjoy its delightful shores and local delights such as lomi, kapeng barako, tapa, etc . To start with, consider any of the below…

  • Tingloy: An island near Mt. Gulugod Baboy that is known for its laid-back Masasa beach — perfect for those who want to escape the bustle of nearby Anilao. The path that leads to the shore is also a sight to behold what with its rice fields and friendly residents. Another option is Sepoc beach on the western tip which has a great viewpoint. If you want to take it a step further, ride over to Sombrero Island to do diving or snorkeling since the marine life is part of the ecosystem that is around Anilao and Verde Island . .
  • TIP: For some thrill, drop by nearby Maragondon’s Mt. Palay-Palay or Mataas na Gulod Protected Landscape in order to climb the iconic ‘ Pico de Loro ‘ which is a tall protruding rock. .
  • San Juan: The most well-known barangay will have to be Laiya ! Due to the white sands and clear waters, the area has since been laced with a number of resorts and guesthouses. .
  • Lian: Notable is Matabungkay Beach that was originally discovered in the early 50s by sun-starved Germans who were living in Manila. You will absolutely love its white shores! .
  • Lobo: If you’re still up for some more beaches to check off your list, head over to this southernmost tip of Batangas to visit Malabrigo Beach . It’s a different kind of scene though given that the shore is carpeted with pebbles — but it still makes for quite a sight to see! Nearby you can also check out the Malabrigo Lighthouse. .
  • Calatagan: Facing Verde Island, Calatagan enjoys being a part of the ‘Coral Triangle’; therefore, visitors can enjoy the rich marine life in its waters. A lot of people also seek out Manuel Uy Beach Resort for its camping scene as they go about their day exploring local highlights such as Starfish Island that has a magnificent sandbar. All and the same, both places feature scenic rock formations and boulders that are set against high cliffs. .

Makiling : This is the ‘crown jewel’ of the province, a dormant volcano that plays a popular role in a lot of Filipino mythologies and legends (it is named after a guardian spirit named Makiling ). As a visitor, you won’t regret taking the hike up especially since it’s not too difficult for beginners with an option to take a guide. .

Corregidor Island Memorial

Photo from Shutterstock Corregidor is an island situated west of Manila near Manila Bay, and it is part of the municipality of Cavite . It is best known for its huge role back during WWII because given its rocky landscape (earning it the name “The Rock”) and strategic location, it helped form a line of defense against enemy forces to the country.

As such, a lot of visitors who are interested in history (which is akin to a trip to, let’s say, Normandy) would often make this one of their b est weekend getaways from Manila. After all, there are several ruins and memorials set up all over the island in order to brush up your knowledge of World War II — the Malinta Tunnel ‘s 1000-bed hospital area, Japanese Garden of Peace , Mile-Long Barracks , Pacific War Memorial Museum , Filipino Heroes Memorial , and more.

Beyond this, however, you can also enjoy the natural beauty of Corregidor by partaking in a biking trail that will lead you to scenic spots and then end your day afterward with a sunset experience at Battery Grubbs which is one of the 23 batteries on the island that has ‘disappearing’ guns perched on a hill (another option is at the Corregidor Island Lighthouse ). If you rather want to go on foot, you can trek through the Cadena de Amor; it will lead you to the tail of the island that grants you sweeping views of Manila Bay. .

Weekend Getaways from Manila: Puerto Galera

Found on the southwest coast of Luzon, the island of Mindoro — which is sectioned into Oriental Mindoro (east) and Occidental Mindoro (west) — has a variety of unspoiled beaches and natural wonders to fill up anyone’s itinerary for weekend getaways from Manila. In fact, it’s a tranquil escape from the metro that is often not too crowded and the top things to do are as follows…

  • ★ Puerto Galera: This is a popular beach town on the island wherein you can find a myriad of resorts, restaurants, and shops — and for a good reason, because the region has great white sandy beaches and marine life, making it a favorite among divers too (besides, it has been declared as a ‘Man and Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO’) . Don’t forget to drop by White Beach on the west of Puerto Galera for lesser crowds. .
  • ★ Apo Reef National Park: Since I’ve already mentioned diving, this is the spot that you must NOT miss if you’re a diver. This is the Philippines’ largest coral reef system, as well as the world’s 2nd largest (next to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef). You will love the huge variety of marine species but fret not if you’re not an experienced diver because snorkeling is also an activity that you can do here (as well as dolphin-watching and lagoon-rafting). It is even possible to camp here for the night. .
  • If you want to venture more to the south and see its remote places, check the Islands Of Bulalacao : Target, Aslom, Suguicay, Liawagao, Tambaron, Maasin, Pocanil, Sibalat, and Buyayao. .
  • Alternatively, you can hike Mt. Iglit-Baco National Park and reach Mt. Iglit’s summit at 2,364 meters. Other than that, this ASEAN Heritage Park has a huge expanse of 75,445 hectares so you’ll have lots of fun crossing its rivers, meeting the Mangyans (an indigenous tribe in Mindoro), camping on the grounds, and more. .

Hundred Islands Pangasinan

  • Want a hassle-free day trip tour to these islands from Manila? Book online! .
  • Patar Beach: Often dubbed as the ‘ Boracay of Pangasinan’, visitors love the long shoreline and white sand by the waters thereby making the province a common choice for weekend getaways from Manila. .
  • Sunflower Maze: Found in Tayug, this 2,100sqm flower farm is a hit amongst locals and as the name implies, it’s a bit of a maze with a capacity of over 100 people and a tour that lasts up to 30 minutes. .
  • Bolinao Falls: A mesmerizing set of 3 waterfalls by the Bolinao river, with the first one being the most popular as visitors love to dive from its jump-off point. .

Weekend Getaways from Manila : La Union

Mention La Union to locals and they will instantly tell you that it is known for surfing — after all, it is the surfing capital of North Luzon. Rest assured, if you’re not a surfer, the province has lots to offer you if you ever choose it as one of your weekend getaways from Manila (if not a day trip from Manila!).

For starters, head on over to San Juan. The coastline has great swells that will thrill any surfer and the peak season starts from October to March. The most popular beach will be Urbiztondo , but there are other places too like Bacnotan , Taboc , and Darigayos . Once you’re done with some water fun, don’t miss out on the incredible sunset views on the beach and then capping it off with some good local food from the various beach bars and restaurants like Surf Shack , Mad Monkeys , etc.

TIP : Book discounted surfer lessons online !

If you want to venture out, go north to Luna and visit Pebble Beach for its unique landscape. Nearby, you can make a stop at Bahay na Bato which has interesting stone and wooden sculptures — or if you’re religious, visit the Spanish colonial church of St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish which is also listed as a National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines.

Want a different scene? Drive to San Gabriel’s Tangadan Falls which has a beautiful pool that locals love to swim in. You can even ride a bamboo raft to get closer to the falls, if not do cliff diving. .

Sabang Beach Baler

Yet another famous surfing town, but Baler in Aurora also boasts a range of attractions. Plus, you will love the winding yet scenic drive that leads to this town. To fill up your weekend, consider the following activities…

  • When you’re up for some food grub, check out Kubli Bistro, Bayler View, or Myrtle Park. .
  • Chase waterfalls: First up, jot down Ditumabo Falls for its grand cascades. Reaching it will take a 20-minute trek, but you will love the cool waters as you wash away the sweat from the hike. Another option is Caunayan Falls ; it may not be as grand as the former, but it’s a good option if you don’t want to hike. .
  • Visit other beaches: Top of the list would be Dicasalarin Cove , a private beach but quite scenic due to its white beach and rock formations. Or you can also jump to Dicasalarin Bay for some snorkeling since it holds quite a lot of colorful corals. Other options would be Cemento Beach , Anlao Islets , or Diguisit Beac h. .
  • Walk around town: Make a stop at Balete Park to witness its ‘Millenium Tree’ — a famous 600-year old balete tree that towers at 213 feet and with a diameter of 197 feet. Other landmarks to check out would be Baler Church, Museo de Baler , and Doña Aurora House . .

Weekend Getaways from Manila : Baguio Mines View Park

Much like Tagaytay , Baguio is a favorite amongst locals when they want a chilly escape from Manila. It was originally built as a hill station in 1900 during the American Colonial Period — which will explain why a lot of the key locations’ names below are western in nature. Nevertheless, its high altitude warrants you to pack a jacket but it will be one of those weekend getaways from Manila that you will never forget!

TIP: Want to do a day trip to Baguio from Manila instead? You can join this tour ! ADDITIONAL STOP: If you don’t mind going a bit further (about 5 hours more from Baguio), you can drop by the famed Banaue Rice Terraces !
  • Treetop Adventures : Where you can try a zipline ride or a Tree Drop (harnessed free fall).
  • Yellow Trail : An easy 1.5-kilometer path that will make you go around the pine tree forest.
  • Butterfly Garden : A fun stop for families or kids. .
  • Burnham Park: Yet another typical stop made by visitors, with families loving the option to rent a swan boat and paddle if not pedal through the Burnham Lagoon. Other activities that you can do is to try a Go-Kart or bike rental, if not just lounge around the grounds. .
  • You can also drop by the nearby Wright Park if you want to try some horseback riding for a fee of Php200. .
  • Strawberry Farm: Found in La Trinidad, this is a common must-do of tourists where you can basically pick strawberries yourself from the plots for an added fee. Otherwise, you can just buy fresh strawberries per kilo at a price that starts at Php250. .
  • Colors of Stobosa: Just near the strawberry farm is this community project wherein you can find hillside mural houses painted in various colors — a bit similar to the Gamcheon Culture Village in Busan , Korea, but in more vibrant colors. .

Where Can I Road Trip in Batangas? (4 Itineraries)

  • Post author: Roadtripbuzz
  • Post published: July 4, 2022
  • Post category: Uncategorized

Batangas is one of the top road trip destinations from Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. It is just two to three hours away from the city, which is also a favorite quick local getaway. It is a must-visit province if you plan on going on a road trip in the Philippines.

Home of the world’s smallest active volcano, Batangas offers plenty of tourist attractions. From beaches to islands, mountains to a volcano, farms to coves, and historical sites to churches, there are many places you can stop to visit during your road trip.

A day may not be enough to visit the place because of its many tourist attractions. However, having a planned route will definitely help you organize your road trip to make it a hassle-free and fun-packed experience.

No need to worry about preparing an itinerary, though, because we’ve got you covered in this article. Read on to discover the best itineraries for your road trip in Batangas.

Table of Contents

Batangas road trip itinerary #1: Explore the Bee World at Milea Bee Farm

  • Best time of the year to attend: November to May

Milea Bee Farm is a top farm destination with its authentic and serene environment. With its aim to save the bees, the farm is dedicated to the care and propagation of various species of honey-producing bees.

Currently, they have Philippine Native Honey Bees, Italian Bees, and a variety of Philippine native Stingless Bees in their natural habitat.

Located 21 kilometers away from Batangas City , this small farm is located in a secluded area with no neighbors and no electricity. It is also a five-minute walk away from its parking area. But this is what makes it exciting because it brings you to the natural world of bees.

They offer a Beesita sa Bukid tour to guide you in your stay at the farm. The guided tour starts with a talk about bees, and then you can taste the fresh honey direct from the beehive.

The tour ends with light snacks and bottomless honey drinks. It lasts one hour and thirty minutes and is available daily from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm only. We suggest picking up an earlier time to avoid the scorching noontime sun.

Milea Bee Farm also grows edible fruits, herbs, and various vegetables like cucumber and celery. They offer vegetable picking to the guests, where they can personally pick the fresh and organic vegetables from their gardens.

Please note that the farm does not have a restaurant. They can, however, serve food using their organic ingredients if there is a prior arrangement.

Batangas road trip itinerary #2: Dive in Anilao

  • Best time of the year to attend: April to May
  • Suitable for: Teens and adults
  • Things to see: Rich and colorful underwater world, rare critters, nudibranchs

Where Can I Road Trip in Batangas? (4 Itineraries)

The birthplace of scuba diving in the Philippines, Anilao is one of the top diving destinations in the country. It is a protected marine sanctuary that is home to rich coral reefs, a variety of fish, and other underwater creatures.

It is also ranked third for muck diving, next to Indonesia’s Lembeh Strait and Malaysia’s Mabul Island.

Anilao has more than twenty diving sites you can choose from. The prominent ones in the area are Kirby’s, Twin Rocks, Mainit Point, Beatrice Rocks, Secret Bay, Devil’s Point, and Eagle Point, to name a few.

Since it is just three hours away from Manila, Anilao is the preferred diving destination of both local and foreign divers. It is also a beginner-friendly diving place because many offer specialized diving courses and packages for both advanced and beginner divers.

The primary diving season in Anilao is from early November to May. However, the peak season for diving is April to May. The temperature may go up to 28.8 degrees, but the visibility is good, where you can expect to see up to 30 meters in terms of diving conditions.

Before deciding to dive, please make sure to check the local weather report to know if diving is suitable on your chosen date.

Batangas road trip itinerary #3: Hike in Mt. Maculot

  • Duration: 5 – 6 hrs
  • Things to see: View of Taal Volcano and Taal Lake, the Grotto, the Rookies, and the Summit

Mt. Maculot is one of the famous hiking spots in the Philippines that is good for hikers at all levels. Its summit has a 4/9 difficulty level, making it the best day-hike adventure option with a magnificent view of the Taal Volcano.

The mountain is located at Barangay Cuenca, Batangas. Local authorities require local and foreign hikers to pay a fee and register before trekking. A trained guide is also needed for a safe journey.

Even though some parts of the trail are steep, slippery, and muddy, it is a beginner-friendly mountain trail. It takes about five to six hours trekking to reach the summit. If you want a day hike, it is recommended to start hiking at 5 am.

What’s good about Mt. Maculot is that it has 14 resting campgrounds or stations, which symbolize Jesus Christ’s journey on Mount Calvary.

There are also three main destinations for mountain trekking: the Grotto, the Summit, and the Rockies. The Grotto is the popular vantage point and is the sire for the Lady of Lourdes shrine.

Where Can I Road Trip in Batangas? (4 Itineraries)

Both the Summit and the Rockies vantage points offer views of the most famous Taal Volcano. The Summit is the second vantage point that offers breathtaking views of the Taal Volcano Island, Mount Makiling, and Labangan Bay. Meanwhile, the Rockies is the last vantage point overlooking the rocky cliffs along the southern part of Taal Lake.

Before the Taal Volcano became active again, tourists could trek the main creator of the small volcano, either walking or riding a horse. However, the local authorities currently prohibit such activity for safety reasons. You can only view the Taal Volcano and Taal Lake from a distance.

Batangas road trip itinerary #4: Revisit history at Taal Heritage Town

  • Best time of the year to attend: December to February
  • Duration: 6-10 hours
  • Things to see: Ancestral houses, museums, Taal Basilica, Our Lady of Casaysay Shrine

If you want to take a break from hiking and diving, touring around the Taal Heritage town is a good idea for your road trip.

Taal Heritage Town is a small town in Batangas with well-preserved structures and houses built during the Spanish era. You can learn history and marvel at the architecture of the houses, museums, and churches during your road trip.

The place is also known for its own locally-made Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana dresses, which are the country’s traditional clothing.

The great thing about visiting the heritage town is that you can go inside some of the heritage houses. Many of these ancestral houses are turned into mini-museums and others have become bed and breakfast inns.

Aside from the ancestral houses and museums, you can visit the famous Basilica de St. Martin de Tours. It is the largest Catholic Church in Asia, with a length of 96 meters and a width of 45 meters, so it is hard not to notice.

Also known as Taal Basilica, the structure will remind you of Rome’s St. Peter’s Basilica. It is the most visited destination during the Lenten season and is a popular wedding venue.

Batangas has a lot to offer to tourists wishing to go on a road trip to this Philippine province. There is something for everyone to see and experience.

We have presented some of the best places and activities you might want to consider on your road trip.

The itineraries above are fit for all ages and tastes. There is the Milea Bee Farm for nature lovers and healthy living promoters, the Anilao marine sanctuary for diving fans, Mt. Maculot for hiking enthusiasts, and Taal Heritage Town for those interested in history.

When planning your road trip, make sure to consider your budget, time of year, weather conditions, and local rules and regulations to make sure you have a safe and fun road trip.

Philippine Road Trips: Best Road Trip Destinations in Luzon

road trip destinations in luzon batanes

Are you looking for an adventure that will take you on a journey through stunning landscapes, scenic towns, and vibrant cultures? Look no further than Luzon! The largest island in the Philippines is home to some of the most breathtaking road trip destinations in the country. From the rolling hills of Batanes to the pristine beaches of Zambales, Luzon has something for every type of traveler. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or a foodie, there’s no shortage of amazing experiences on a road trip through Luzon.

So fasten your seatbelts and get ready to hit the open road as we explore some of the best road trip destinations in Luzon. Let’s go!

Benefits of taking a road trip

Embarking on a road trip is a unique and exciting way to travel. It offers a sense of freedom and flexibility that other forms of travel cannot match.

One of the biggest advantages of a road trip is that you get to dictate the pace and itinerary of your travel. You can choose to linger in a destination that speaks to you or move on quickly if a place doesn’t resonate. Moreover, road trips allow you to explore lesser-known destinations and hidden gems you may not have discovered otherwise. Road trips also offer the opportunity to bond with your travel companions, sharing experiences and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

With all these benefits, it’s easy to see why road trips are becoming increasingly popular among travelers.

Best time to go on a road trip in Luzon

The best time to go on a road trip in Luzon is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. The weather is generally sunny and dry during this period, making it ideal for outdoor activities and road trips. December to February are particularly popular for road trips, as the cool and dry weather makes for comfortable driving conditions. However, be prepared for heavy traffic during the holiday season, especially in popular destinations like Baguio and Vigan. If you want to avoid the crowds, consider going on a road trip during the shoulder season, which falls between April and May or September and October. During this time, the weather is still pleasant, and the crowds are thinner, making for a more relaxed and enjoyable road trip experience.

Road trip essentials

Before hitting the road, ensuring you have all the essentials to make your trip comfortable and safe is important. Here are some of the must-have items for any road trip.

  • Navigation tools

Ensure you have a reliable GPS device or smartphone app to guide you to your destination. It’s also a good idea to have a physical map as a backup in case your electronic device fails.

  • First aid kit

Accidents can happen on the road, so it’s essential to have a first aid kit with basic supplies like bandages, antiseptic solutions, and pain relievers.

  • Snacks and water

Pack plenty of snacks and water to fuel and hydrate during your road trip . Opt for healthy, non-perishable snacks like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruits.

  • Emergency supplies

In case of a breakdown or emergency, make sure you have a spare tire, a tire jack, and a toolkit. Having a flashlight, extra batteries, and a roadside emergency kit is also a good idea.

Luzon road trip itinerary

Now that you have your essentials sorted, it’s time to hit the road and explore some of the best road trip destinations in Luzon. Here’s a sample itinerary that covers some of the must-see places on the island.

Stop 1: Banaue Rice Terraces

Take a hike through the terraces or simply admire the view from one of the many viewpoints in the area.

Stop 6: Batanes

Finally, make your way to Batanes, an archipelago in the northernmost part of the Philippines. Explore the town of Basco, hike to the Marlboro Country viewpoint, and visit Sabtang Island, where you can witness the traditional Ivatan way of life.

Travel options in the Philippines

Due to the fact that the Philippines is an archipelago, the islets are linked with one another with an intricate network of ferry routes. Most ferry tickets are very affordable and the trips are pleasant providing you with stunning views of beautiful lagoons.

The Philippines also offers a network of buses. Bus stops literally riddle the cities and smaller villages so there are plenty of smaller destinations that you’ll easily reach by bus. There are also minivans which are considered a lot quicker in comparison to regular buses. Remember to always mind your luggage, especially when the bus gets a little bit overcrowded.

The only functioning railway in the country runs from Manila to Naga so it doesn’t offer many sightseeing opportunities. The views behind the window are really scenic though.

Thus, holidaymakers who enjoy staying totally independent of the public transportation should definitely consider renting a vehicle. There is a wide choice of car rental companies in the capital and at the international airport. They offer an interesting selection of vehicles that will live up to the expectations of the most demanding motorists.

The Philippines: traffic regulations and road state

Contrary to what you might expect, the Philippines follows right-hand traffic. That’s some great news for those who were a little apprehensive about travelling around a foreign country in a vehicle. Unfortunately, native motorists are rather unpredictable so you need to stay cautious at all times nevertheless. In some of the areas, you’ll come across unpaved road sections which might be slightly less safe; however, there’s always a possibility to rent a 4x4 vehicle that will make your travelling experience more pleasant.

The Philippines: age restrictions and required documents

In order to drive a vehicle in the Philippines, the motorists are required to be 17; however renting a car is possible when you are 21. Some car rental companies will even require you to be 23 to rent a vehicle. While travelling around the Philippines, it’s important to carry your driver’s licence, registration documents, insurance documents, and your passport.

General restrictions in the Philippines

There exist a number of things which are forbidden when travelling around the Philippines. Even though the restrictions concerning seatbelts vary across the islands, it’s best to stay on the safe side and make sure that all your passengers have fastened seatbelts.

When it comes to blood alcohol level, the allowed amount is 0.05% in the Philippines. You can only use hands-free sets for talking on the phone while driving; otherwise, you may face high fines. It is also forbidden to overtake near a junction. Parking on the pavement is a major traffic offence as well.

Speed limits, speed cameras, and toll roads in the Philippines

In the Philippines, you are required to keep to the following speed limits: 100 km/h on highways, 50 km/h outside built-up areas, and 30 km/h in built-up areas. Interestingly, you can use speed camera warning devices and you won’t be charged any additional fines if a police officer spots such a device in your vehicle.

In the Philippines, you won’t find any fixed speed cameras; however, there are plenty of police patrols equipped with speed guns. All expressways in the Philippines are toll roads; however, they are still rather affordable. They offer impeccable road state that will soothe your heart after so many kilometres on bumpy roads and unpaved sections.

When taking a Road Trip in the Philippines

When taking a road trip in the Philippines, it's essential to be aware of several factors to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey. Here are some key aspects to consider:

Driving conditions: Traffic in the Philippines, especially in urban areas, can be congested, and driving habits may differ from what you're used to. Be prepared for heavy traffic, unpredictable driving behavior, and occasional disregard for traffic rules. Drive defensively and stay alert at all times.

Road quality: While major highways are generally well-maintained, you may encounter varying road conditions, particularly in rural areas. Roads may be narrow, poorly lit, or affected by weather conditions such as heavy rain or landslides. Plan your route carefully and be cautious when driving on unfamiliar roads.

Weather: The Philippines experiences a tropical climate with a dry season (November to April) and a wet season (May to October). Heavy rain and typhoons can cause flooding and landslides, which may impact your road trip plans. Stay updated on the local weather forecast and be prepared to adjust your itinerary if necessary.

Navigation: While GPS navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze are helpful, they may not always be accurate or reliable, especially in remote areas. It's a good idea to have a paper map or road atlas as a backup and to ask locals for directions when needed.

Vehicle maintenance and rental: Ensure that your rental vehicle is well-maintained and has all the necessary documentation, including registration, insurance, and a spare tire. Familiarize yourself with the vehicle's features and fuel requirements before setting off on your road trip.

Safety and security: While the Philippines is generally safe for travelers, it's essential to stay vigilant, especially in crowded areas and tourist hotspots. Keep your belongings secure, and don't leave valuable items in your vehicle. Be cautious when driving at night, as visibility may be limited and pedestrians or animals might be on the road.

Local laws and customs: Respect local laws, customs, and traditions. For instance, foreign driver's licenses are valid for up to 90 days, after which an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a local license is required. Additionally, remember that the Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country, and conservative behavior and attire may be expected in certain situations.

By being aware of these factors and taking necessary precautions, you'll be better prepared to enjoy a safe and memorable road trip in the Philippines.

Best Time for taking a Road Trip in the Philippines

The best time of the year for taking a road trip in the Philippines is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect more stable weather conditions, with less rain and lower humidity, making it more comfortable for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

The dry season can be further divided into two periods:

Cooler months (November to February): These months are characterized by cooler temperatures, particularly in the early mornings and evenings. This is an excellent time to visit if you prefer milder weather, as well as for exploring higher elevation areas like Baguio and Sagada.

Hotter months (March to April): This period is warmer and can be quite hot, especially in lowland areas. However, it's a great time for beach lovers and those looking to enjoy water activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

While the dry season is the most popular time for road trips in the Philippines, it's essential to note that this period also coincides with peak tourist season. You may encounter larger crowds at popular attractions and higher prices for accommodations and services. To avoid the busiest times, consider traveling during the shoulder months of November and February.

Keep in mind that the Philippines is a tropical country, and even during the dry season, you may still experience occasional rain showers. Additionally, regional variations in climate mean that some areas may be affected by rain more than others. Always check local weather forecasts and be prepared for possible changes in weather conditions during your trip.

How expensive is a Road Trip in the Philippines

The cost of a road trip in the Philippines can vary significantly depending on factors such as your travel style, accommodations, dining preferences, and activities. However, the Philippines is generally an affordable destination, and it's possible to have an enjoyable road trip experience on a modest budget.

For a mid-range traveler, you can expect to spend around $50 to $100 per person per day, which would include comfortable accommodations, meals at local restaurants, entrance fees for attractions, and other miscellaneous expenses. For a week, this would amount to roughly $350 to $700 per person, and for a month, it would be approximately $1,500 to $3,000 per person.

Car rental costs can also vary depending on factors such as the type of vehicle, rental duration, and additional services like insurance or GPS. A standard economy car may cost around $30 to $50 per day, while a larger SUV or van could be $60 to $100 or more per day. Keep in mind that these prices may fluctuate depending on the season and availability, and it's usually more cost-effective to rent a car for longer periods.

It's worth noting that if you're on a tight budget, you can still have an enjoyable road trip in the Philippines by choosing budget accommodations, eating at local eateries, and focusing on low-cost or free activities. On the other hand, if you prefer luxury travel, there are plenty of upscale options available, including high-end resorts, fine dining, and exclusive experiences, but these will come at a higher cost.

When planning your road trip in the Philippines, take the time to research your preferred destinations, accommodations, and activities to create an itinerary that suits your budget and preferences.

Some practical information before your trip to the Philippines

First and foremost, we recommend that you do not rent a car in the Philippines , as driving is very different from here and quite dangerous if you are not used to it. The roads are not always adapted, scooters are very (very) numerous and especially at rush hours, which makes traffic complicated (high density). Moreover, you need an international driving licence or you will not be able to drive a car. When you are in the big cities, you can use the “ Grab ” application to get around, it is the equivalent of Uber in Southeast Asia.

You want to buy a paper travel guide ? We recommend this one ! In our opinion, it is the most complete and the most visual!

Road trip from Manila to Leyte

Philippines Road Trip: Manila to Leyte in 1 Week

What’s the longest road trip in the Philippines you’ve taken? Ours is a 1-week-long drive from Manila to Leyte, where our final stopover was Kalanggaman Island in Palompon.

Hali and I booked this packaged tour in the Holy Week of 2016. As such, we had ample time for a long vacation and we didn’t have to use up leave credits at work. Initially, I considered going to Calayan Island instead, but ultimately I decided that a long road trip is something everyone should experience at least once. Moreover, since this was a packaged tour, we simply had to pay and let the organizers arrange everything.

That saying, you can also use this as a guide if you ever plan on doing a similar road trip.

Thoughts on our road trip, tips on how to survive a long road trip, budget and expenses.

Our group met at Buendia Station where a private van was waiting for us. Our road trip includes stops to interesting points in Albay, Sorsogon, Samar and finally Leyte.

Here is a map I created that shows our route.

Manila to Leyte Road Trip Itinerary

Our organizers created the itinerary. This is an edited itinerary to show the actual one that we followed.

We had an agreement to have an open itinerary. This means the itinerary is subject to change, depending on our decision. We can stop whenever we discover a new place of interest even if it’s not in the original schedule.

Our original plan was to visit Kalanggaman Island in Leyte and then head straight to Sambawan Island in Biliran. After a group discussion, it was decided to camp overnight in Kalanggaman Island instead. I was disappointed since the reason I booked the tour is to see Sambawan Island, but Hali was in agreement that it was the more practical choice, money- and time-wise. Looking back, I agree that we made the right choice then because it would be a shame to visit Sambawan Island on a rush.

P.S. You can read about our next trip in Biliran: Island Hopping in Sambawan Island and Chasing Waterfalls in Biliran .

From Manila, we spent a night on the road all the way to Bicol Region. We were ready for Day 1!

We had breakfast and a short tour in Cagsawa Ruins in Albay. This is actually our second time here — Hali and I had also visited Cagsawa Ruins during an outreach mission in Sorsogon a year before.

Mayon Volcano

We took a couple of shots, greeted the other joiners in the road trip, and then proceeded to our next stop, Sorsogon.

Hali and I love Sorsogon , so we were both excited to get here!

From Albay, we headed straight to Paguriran Island Lagoon in Bacon, Sorsogon. Paguriran Island Lagoon is an emerging summer destination. It features a natural pool that fills with aqua-green saltwater during high tide. It’s similar to  Tangke Lagoon in Gigantes Islands .

It was low tide when we arrived in Paguriran Island Lagoon, so we didn’t get a chance to swim. We stayed for a bit and took pictures.

Paguriran Lagoon in Sorsogon

We had lunch and then hurried to catch the last passenger boats in Matnog Port headed to Subic Laki Beach . We got off at Subic Laki Beach, where we pitched our tents for the night. Hali and I watched a bright full moon before joining the group socials held on the beach.

The morning after, we went on an island hopping tour in Matnog .

Our first stop is  Matnog Lighthouse , an abandoned lighthouse in a rocky islet. The waves were strong so our boat had a bit of difficulty in letting us off, but we safely managed to set foot in the island.

Matnog lighthouse in Sorsogon

Next is Juag Lagoon Fish Sanctuary . This is a marine sanctuary home to various species of fishes, giant clams, sea cucumbers, and more. In our first visit in Matnog, our group stayed here and even today it’s still one of my favorite places in the country. Hali and I were so excited to be back. We sought out Kuya Alex and asked how he was doing considering the last typhoon that ravaged the province and then we went with the others for fish feeding.

Juag Lagoon Fish Sanctuary in Sorsogon

Our last stop is Tikling Island , a privately owned island with gorgeous shoreline. Similar to Subit Liit and Subic Laki, the sand here is pinkish when wet. Hali and I enjoyed the shimmering-blue water to our hearts’ content.

Tikling beach in Matnog, Sorsogon

Visiting Sorsogon for the second time was delightful as the first time. We freshened up in Tikling Island before heading to our next destination.

From Matnog Port, we rode a roro bound for Samar. We took a boat to Marson’s Beach Resort (also known as Villa Patria) in Bani Island. We pitched our tents here for the night. Marson’s Beach Resort has a pebble beach, but we liked it nonetheless. Along the shore, there are two tree swings where you can sit and get your feet wet from the waves during high tide. We enjoyed a boodle fight dinner before heading back to our tents.

Sunrise in Catarman, Samar

Early in the morning, we rode the same boat to Biri Island, located 1 hour away.

We registered in the tourism office and headed to the Biri Rock Formations . There are seven rock formations you can visit. For our day trip, we explored Bel-at, Caranas and Magasang rock formations. I particularly enjoyed exploring Bel-at and Caranas because of the picturesque ocean views and tidal pools.

Magasang rock formation in Biri

Our final destination is Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte. Kalanggaman Island is a bird-shaped island famous for its whitish sand bar. It’s also an IG-famous spot, perhaps one of the most recognizable places in the Philippines.

Kalanggaman Island in Leyte

We arrived here in what was probably the busiest day of the year — a weekend in Holy Week. After looking for a good place to pitch our tents, Hali and I walked around the island. It was crowded so we didn’t get a good photo of the sand bar, but instead stayed in quieter spots of the island. We then spent the rest of our time enjoying social drinks. As our organizer Kuya Ram said, “Ito talaga yung buhay beach bum.” (This is the real beach bum life).

I think that Kalanggaman Island is beautiful, but it’s one of those places that look way better in photos than in real life. Aside from its picturesque sand bar, another thing that has it going is its good tourist management. There is daily tourist capping, proper garbage disposal, among other things. I hope the rest of the LGUs in the country follow suit.

The morning after, we packed our things and made our way back to Manila. The return drive was almost non-stop except for a few hours we spent in CWC Sports in Camarines Sur, where our driver got a good sleep while the rest of us tried wakeboarding.

This Manila-Leyte road trip was once-in-a-lifetime experience. Because the Philippines is an archipelago, rarely do people plan on doing road trips from Luzon to Visayas, preferring instead easier modes of transport such as airplanes. The good thing about this route is we were able to stop at interesting points.

One of the reasons I joined the tour is that I wanted to see Sambawan Island in Biliran, so I was initially disappointed when the group decided to stay in Kalanggaman Island instead. However, in hindsight this is the better decision, since ideally it takes a whole day to island hop in Biliran.

If I were to change a few things, it would be:

  • Exclude Paguriran Island Lagoon from the route. It took us a long detour to get there and even then we couldn’t stay long since we needed to catch the last trip of passenger boats in Matnog Port. I don’t think it was worth it.
  • Add another 1-2 days to visit Sambawan Island in Biliran.
  • Plan more pit stops on the way back so that it wouldn’t be a continuous long drive.

Overall though, this was definitely an enjoyable experience. I’m looking forward to more road trips in the future.

Here are personal tips from this week-long Philippine road trip.

  • Pack light . Seriously, try to put everything in one backpack . If you have it, use packing cubes to save more space. OOTDs are fine, but re-use clothes if possible. You’re most likely going to be in a van (or a smaller car) and it’s gonna be cramped. Be considerate to yourself and other people by packing light to occupy as little space as possible.
  • Get an awesome road trip playlist .
  • Be with people you’d like to travel with . If you’re joining a packaged tour, research about the tour agency first. You’re going to be on the road half the time, so it’s important that you get along with your acquaintances.
  • Use an untinted car . My personal preference is going in a car with untinted windows. Heavily tinted windows can protect you from the day heat, but it can also be stifling especially since you will be on the road for hours. Personally, I like looking outside on road trips as it lets me see a little bit of the country at a time.
  • Prepare for a long return trip . We visited everything on our itinerary on our drive to Leyte, so we had nothing left to see on our way back. We literally stayed in the van for 24 hours or more, except for a short stop at CWC in Camarines Sur.

This is a packaged tour. Hali and I spent about P7000-8000 each.

We paid for the van use and then chipped in for island hopping, cottage rentals, and so on. Food was shared by the group or brought individually.

Also included in our expenses were endless snacks for the road trip such as Ovaltine biscuits (Did you know these exist?) and refreshments, (mostly ice-cold coconut juices and1.5-liter Coke bottles); two beach hats; a white anklet made of shells; and a thick four-meter rope that may be of use for survival in the future.

Hi, Just want to ask if you have list of expenses in this trip? We want to try this via own car and I want to have an idea how much we will spend or atleast the fare in Roro including the car. Will appreciate your response. Thanks!

Hi Vie. I don’t know because this was a packaged tour.

Iza Abao, Two Monkeys Travel Group Writer

Ovaltine biscuits? Where did you get them? Haha! I remember that I have eaten Ovaltine candies but not biscuits. This is such a long trip! The longest road trip that I have experienced was from Manila to Pangasinan. It was enjoyable because I live here in Oriental Mindoro. I have not visited the northern part of the Philippines prior to that trip. I agree that you should travel with the ones whom you want to be with. It is a long trip and if you are in a wrong company then the trip would be unbearable.

Aia of Weekend Chronicles

Good story, Kath! We’re planning to do a Bicol + Samar roadtrip too this year. Bookmarked! 🙂

Jon Espina - Jontotheworld

Amazing! the route is very familiar for me beacuse that’s the same route that I take whenever I go back to our province in Laoang, Northern Samar.

Too bad that I’ve never been to Biri Island. That’s a shame for a nortehanon like me LOL! But at least i’ve been to Tacloban and Palompon.

Grabe, I would also love to try that kind of adventure. Too bad I don’t have enough leaves this year 🙁 Love your adventures Kat!

Thank you, Jon! 😀 Love your adventures as well.

Cai Dominguez- Travelosyo

Wow this is an amazing road trip. I think I agree to all your tips. Always pack light as much as possible bring 1 bag, traveling with people you love makes the travel less boring and you wouldn’t notice the time. Plus yeah the not tinted car. I agree with that I love seeing the world runs through the window. I’ve been to bicol region and it was really a long land trip. I can’t imagine pushing it forward to samar and leyte. That’s so awesome:)

Marjorie Gavan

Wow you were able to take three provinces in only 5 days. That must have been really tiring eh? I’d been to Sorsogon but not in Matnog. I haven’t been to Samar and Leyte, I didn’t even know they can be reached from Sorsogon.

The first thing that I remembered when I saw your pictures of Biri is also the Kapurparawan Rock formation. It looks so beautiful!

My grandfather hailed from Barogo, Leyte. That’s the only thing I knew of Leyte until Kalanggaman Island became famous. I’d sure love to go there too.

kareen liez datoy (@blessedliez)

Such a long roadtrip! But it is obviously worth it! I am from Leyte but I haven’t visited Kalanggaman yet. I love your photos. It really shows the beauty of Samar and Leyte!

Road warriors! I have been to Sorsogon so many times already due to work decades ago. Couple of years ago, I made two trips to Samar and Leyte. In Samar, I went to the three main cities of Catarman, Calbayog and Catbalogan… and then all over Leyte. One place I missed? BIRI! 🙁

Seeing with Brahmin eyes

Thank you so much Hali and Kath for being such wonderful travel companions! Cheers to more travels!

Thank you din Kuya Brahma! 😀 Hope to see you guys in your future trips.

Nicole Paler

The longest roadtrip I’ve ever been to is when we went to Bicol for a wedding shoot. Damn, that made my butt hurt so bad and become numb… XD Anyways, I love the video that you made, and it just so happens that I also made a video of my recent trip as well, got inspired by your videos that’s why I made my own 🙂

The 12 Best Beginner Motorcycles For Long Road Trips

I t's easy to romanticize the idea of setting off on a long road trip, especially when it concerns doing it on two wheels . It's a chance to revel in the freedom the open roads give you, explore, and, quite importantly, get to know the vehicle enabling this experience. Given that, though, it's critical to get the right kind of machine along for this trip.

UPDATE: 2024/01/26 16:17 EST BY RAUNAK AJINKYA

Road trips, in general, can be tough if you don't have the right motorcycle along for the ride, especially if you are a novice rider. Given that, we have updated this list to include a few more entries of motorcycles perfectly suited for the job.

This is especially true if you're a rider devoid of a lot of seat time. The last thing you want to do is bring someone's sportbike along because while it may have a lot of power and consume miles rapidly, it's something you'll tire of rather quickly because of the compromised riding triangle. Luckily, this list should help you get through that selection process. It features beginner-friendly motorcycles you can legitimately rely on for long road trips by the likes of Suzuki , Harley-Davidson , Yamaha , and even Ducati, among others.

How we got our model selections: To compile this list, HotCars made a list of all the appropriate motorcycles on offer that enable long trips. While power was considered a criterion to narrow the list down, the motorcycles also needed to be beginner-friendly, meaning priority was given to motorcycles with comfortable ergonomics, impressive fuel tank capacity, and easy-to-handle curb weight figures. It should be noted that this list is a mix of motorcycles currently in production and those that have been discontinued but can be readily found in the used market. Also, the motorcycles have been organized in increasing order of the current market values.

Top 10 Beginner Motorcycles Under 500cc

Suzuki boulevard s40, used price range: $2,000-$6,000.

Suzuki's cheapest Boulevard doesn't leave you wanting for much. The 652cc engine is strong but not too strong for the bike's weight. It's not quite as long as other cruisers, which is nice for a beginner, and it's got a fairly affordable used price range, too. The seating is relaxed, with handles a little closer to you.

The newer ones come in a cool street-color gray and a classic blue. The way it features less chrome with a blacked-out engine and black finish on the wheels makes it look sporty and simple. A single speedometer over the gas tank is analog, and it has plates on the sides for saddlebags if you need cargo space.

Harley-Davidson Iron 883

Used price range: $2,000-$10,000.

This Harley-Davidson gets 833 America-made ccs of power and goes for well under $10k in the used market. It's one of the best Harleys to start with, and you won't get kicked out of a biker bar for owning one. The Iron 883 has a V-Twin engine. If you don't know, this is a cool thing to have if you wear a leather jacket with patches unironically.

Admittedly, you don't get quite as much for your investment as an Indian Scout Sixty, and both will always be less reliable than a Honda or Kawasaki, but there are some things that just don't compare, like the trademark Harley rumble! Plus, with motorcycles, there's always less to fix than with cars so that you can do a lot of the work yourself.

2008 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 Specs

Yamaha v star 250, starting msrp: $4,699.

The Yamaha V-Star 250 is one of the very best for uneasy beginners looking to road trip . A new one costs just $4,699, and it gets 78 MPG. That means 195 miles between stops, which is pretty decent for a motorcycle. If you haven't figured it out, most of the time, the numbers by the name represent the ccs in a bike, so this has 249 (thus, 250). That means it's a very comfortable beginner's bike that won't scare you but can still get up to cruising speed faster than most cars. It also means the bike is lighter and easier to control.

It has a decent rear seat for passengers and a good base for saddlebags and packs. The speedometer is analog, and the styling is classic, so you might get confused if you park by any V-Star from the past 40 years. Despite the timeless look, the bike holds up to aging well and won't feel rough or uncomfortable on a long trip.

These Are The Best Cheap Beginner Motorcycles From Japan

Ducati scrambler sixty2, used price range: $5,000-$7,000.

The Scrambler Sixty2 is a 399cc sportbike marketed more towards women. It weighs less than any on this list at just 403 lbs, which is great for people worried about laying it down on accident. It may look like a "naked" (a sportbike with no fairings or extra body covers), but this bike gets just shy of 250 miles of range, and even though the seat is a little more aggressive and won't hug your buns, the way it's shaped actually is relaxing and won't rub your behind the wrong way like a dirt bike (for men and women).

This bike won't be able to hold saddlebags, but the Sixty2 makes a great road trip bike for someone who won't spend more than three days riding in a row and wants a good in-town motorcycle the rest of the time. Surprisingly, for its size (but not for Ducati's standards), it can go up to 100 mph, so you'll never be left wanting more power on the freeway.

2018 Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 Specs

Bmw g 310 gs, starting msrp: $5,890.

The BMW G 310 GS is an adventure bike , meaning with some knobby tires, it makes a decent dirt bike for trails as well. With an adventure bike, you get way more travel (7.5 inches) for smoother rides, a more comfortable seat than a dirt bike, and a more upright seating position than dirt or bullet bikes. The 310 GS is one of the cheapest Beamers you can buy new for just $5,890. That being said, it is a Beamer. This won't win any awards for reliability.

The 310 GS makes a comfortable 313cc that won't get you up any hill climbs but will easily take you up to 90 miles per hour. With 71 MPG, it has a range of 213 miles. The digital display shows gas, gear, and speed in bold fashion, and the LED light makes for a great off-road light in bright mode.

2024 BMW G 310 GS Specs

Honda rebel 500, starting msrp: $6,499.

The Rebel 500 is an affordable and comfortable bike that will last you your whole life. It has 471ccs, which won't let you do any wheelies but does get you up to cruising speed sooner than you need. To keep yourself from locking up your brakes (a significant factor in motorcycle crashes), you can and should get the ABS option. The blacked-out bike may mimic a Harley, but the low seat height makes it ideal for women and the height-challenged. It is also surprisingly fitting for full-height people.

The Rebel has been around for years, so used ones aren't hard to find, and a new one will run for just $6,499. The digital cluster is simple and includes a fuel gauge (not included on all motorcycles). Honda’s slip/assist clutch makes shifting easy for the uninitiated, but sadly, this doesn't come with an automatic transmission. The manual is very forgiving, easy to learn, and worth it, in our opinion. This bike is ideal for beginners who don't plan on switching bikes for years to come.

2024 Honda Rebel 500 Specs

These are the best beginner motorcycles money can buy, kawasaki vulcan s, starting msrp: $7,349.

According to their official website, Kawasaki advertises the Vulcan as being able to fit a wide range of people. The 649cc engine has a good kick at low to mid-range for city stops, but it can also get up to 100 mph. For $7,349, it will feel sportier and quicker than other bikes, but it's also reportedly fun to sit on on the freeway! It has one of the most natural seating positions of any bike under $10,000, probably because it's adjustable.

It may look nothing like a beginner's bike, but it is what Kawasaki offers as their entry-level cruiser . If you're not worried about the bike weighing a little more, it is a very forgiving and comfortable ride. ABS is available, features like a windshield and back support are easy to add, and they are a massive plus on long rides.

2024 Kawasaki Vulcan S Specs

Honda nc750x, starting msrp: $9,499.

If there were a contender for the bike on this list that you could buy with your eyes closed, the Honda NC750X would be right up there at the top of that list.

It's easy on the eyes, great for beginners in terms of the riding ergonomics, is affordable enough, has a great ride, and the DCT on it is the cherry on the icing. It even includes riding modes, a windshield, and a low seat height. That the NC750X often gets discounted is a puzzle.

2024 Honda NC750X Specs

Triumph tiger 660, starting msrp: $9,695.

The star of the show here is, of course, Triumph's lovely 3-cylinder engine, but the Tiger 660 is no one-trick pony. This is about as close to ideal for beginners to get on and go on a long trip .

Tack on luggage and load it up, and the excellent tractability of the motor will still pull you along comfortably. You can even add optional extras that will make the journey more comfortable, like additional lighting and heated grips. Hard to fault the Tiger 660, really.

2023 Triumph Tiger 660 Specs

10 best beginner motorcycles money can buy, bmw f 750 gs.

BMW's GS motorcycle lineup is legendary . The F 750 GS is a natural at completing longer journeys in absolute comfort. One of the most important factors is, of course, the seat, and the F 750 GS makes do with one that's ideally suited to road trips.

At 32.1 inches, it's much lower than you'd expect for a bike this size, but if that's not enough, BMW will also sell you a suspension lowering kit and soft seat, bringing the seat height down further to 30.3 inches. In addition to that, it also gets dynamic traction control, ride modes, and adjustable brake and clutch levers, among others. For the money, it's quite a deal.

2023 BMW F 750 GS Specs

Indian scout sixty, starting msrp: $11,749.

The Indian Scout Sixty is one "beginner" bike that will earn you a lot of respect . It starts at $11,749 and is pretty long and wide but isn't necessarily heavy. The wider handlebars give you better in-city control around corners, and ABS is an option. The engine is 1000ccs, the most of any on this list, but not something an average-fit person couldn't handle easily.

While this is more of a luxury option, it allows for things like a windshield (don't discount how useful one of these is after just two hours of 60+ mph wind in your face) and genuine leather saddlebags. The seat is wide, which benefits the narrow-waisted as well as larger people.

2024 Indian Scout Sixty Specs

Energica eva esseesse9+, starting msrp: $16,110.

This electric bike warrants some cautionary tales: First, do not listen to music until you are comfortable with traffic flow and riding defensively! Cars cannot hear you at all, and they can't see you too well either. Also, its range is 143 miles combined, which is not the best for long trips but is still passable with some planning.

With that out of the way, you get an 80% charge in 40 minutes with a fast charge! All you need to do is stop for a meal by a power station, and you're as well off as any ICE bike. The EsseEsse9 has a nice, upright position , but you're also working with a lot of torque, so make sure you take it slow, or you can pop a wheelie. Otherwise, unlike combustion bikes, it's small and simple and won't have any mechanical issues to stump you. The gauge is simple and can tell the range so you won't be left without power.
