Ratings and Reviews

Devs you need to sort this app asap.

This app crashes every few seconds while trying to use, took me about 12 tries to manage to get through to the dining menu and then it crashed again. It also often (every few mins while constantly reopening the crashed app and trying to get somewhere) pops an error message up which says it has a problem with your account and needs to log back in. Absoloutely atrocious. Needs fixed ASAP. Using an iPhone 12 Pro Max and happy to provide devs with further info (logs, screen capture, etc) if required.

Please fix - logs you out and you can’t get back in!

My daughter logged in once, then got kicked out and told the login details no longer match any records (yet she can log into cruise control with the same details). Please sort it out, P and O - we are relying on using the chat function for our cruise next week! :(

Can’t login

Can’t login!!! Reset passwords multiple times and it said it was reset successfully. But when it tries to log back in app it keep saying the passwords are not matched. P&O, isn’t this the basic functionality of app? What is point of having an account if can’t even log in easily?

P&O Cruises Australia being shut down in 2025, refunds offered

Australian cruise brand P&O is being axed and will cease to exist next year as part of a "strategic" move by its parent company Carnival Corporation & plc.

The P&O Pacific Explorer, which operates for some months of the year out of New Zealand, is being retired in February and refunds are being offered to customers booked on subsequent trips.

P&O Cruises Australia's other two cruise liners - the Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure - will be transitioned to Carnival Cruise Line branding.

Carnival Corporation CEO Josh Weinstein blamed the move on "the strategic reality of the South Pacific's small population and significantly higher operating and regulatory costs".

More from Newshub

P&O is a highly recognisable Australian brand that has been operating since 1932.

The Pacific Explorer's maiden voyage with P&O Cruises was in 2017 and it is set to return to Auckland next month, where it will be based until October.

When it was here last year, cruise director Damian Hewitt said it was a special ship that was a great option for first-timers.

"There's just something about this ship. It's got heart to it - it's not huge but it's not small either," Hewitt told Newshub at the time .

"The crew feel like family. They see the guests a lot more, they want to spend time with them and you want to spend time with them because all you're doing is walking past them and you're with them. You see them a lot more. There's something about that that makes this ship a bit more relaxing, a bit more like home and a bit more comfortable."

For customers booked on Pacific Explorer cruises before March, 2025 the company says those will operate normally.

Currently, the final-ever Pacific Explorer sailing to depart Auckland is set to do so on October 30 for a five-night one-way cruise to Melbourne.

New Zealand customers affected by the cancelled sailings will be contacted directly, the company said in a statement on its website .

"In early 2025 P&O Cruises Australia brand will be sunset and its operations integrated into sister line, Carnival Cruise Line. As a result, all itineraries on Pacific Explorer scheduled to sail after March 2, 2025 are being cancelled," the statement reads.

"If you are booked on one of these itineraries you will be contacted by guest services in the coming days with refund details. We apologise that this change has been necessary.

"If you are booked to cruise before this date, your itinerary is unaffected and we look forward to welcoming you onboard soon.

"We are all immensely proud of P&O Cruises Australia's 90-year heritage of dedicated operations in the region and Carnival Cruise Line are honoured to carry forward its storied legacy and continue to deliver the same onboard experiences and itineraries."

‘Cruise to nowhere’: passengers on NZ P&O cruise plagued by bad weather and biosecurity issues

‘Outcry’ about New Zealand holiday plans being scuttled by rough seas and invasive species prompts P&O to offer onboard credits and refunds

Passengers on a cruise ship prevented from docking in New Zealand due to a dirty hull have been struck by sea sickness after an extended time on large ocean swells.

The P&O Pacific Adventure cruise, which departed Sydney and was due to visit New Zealand, was turned away last week because it could not meet the country’s strict biohazard entry requirements.

Passengers have had to cope with unexpected time at sea amid choppy waters.

“The sick bags are quickly disappearing from the stairwells,” 21-year-old Jake Welch said.

“I feel for all the people who get sea sick, we have had five to 10m swells almost every day.”

Sign up for Guardian Australia’s free morning and afternoon email newsletters for your daily news roundup

The cruise, which was sold as a round trip to New Zealand between 20 November and 3 December, was scheduled to stop at multiple ports in New Zealand on the north and south islands, including Auckland, Wellington and Fiordland national park.

New Zealand has strict biosecurity laws that prevent a ship from docking if it has invasive species attached to its hull. The cruise had scheduled cleaning in the Bay of Plenty to remove three juvenile mussels and a single hydroid, or Lace Coral.

But the required cleaning could not be completed because conditions for diving were worse than forecast.

The cruise will now stop at Hobart and Port Arthur in Tasmania and Eden on the NSW south coast.

Welch said many of the passengers were disappointed.

“It is very disappointing we never even got to see NZ but overall a holiday is still a holiday. It does seem like lots of people have had their plans ruined,” he said.

Passengers on the cruise who hoped to celebrate birthdays, wedding anniversaries or to get married at particular locations in New Zealand have had to shift their plans.

Some expressed their disappointment on a Facebook page created for the cruise.

“My wife and I are on this crummy cruise to nowhere, very disappointing, never travelling on P&O again,” wrote one passenger.

“I’m furious P&O think this is acceptable,” said another.

The cruise company initially offered a 50% “future cruise credit” scheme for passengers, but there was an “outcry” from passengers, according to Welch.

P&O is now offering a refund on top of a $300 per person onboard credit.

“P&O Cruises Australia can advise a change to the compensation for guests on board Pacific Adventure, after the ship was unable to visit New Zealand,” a spokesperson said.

“We have listened to the feedback from our guests and understand not all of them wish to cruise with us again.

“Again, we apologise for the change in itinerary, and thank our guests for their patience and understanding.”

Welch said he was pleased with the final outcome.

“There isn’t much else they can offer monetarily as our 14-day cruise ends up being $68pp per night, which is far cheaper than a cruise [going] directly to Tasmania,” he said.

“I’m happy with the outcome and would cruise again with them knowing that they are willing to give onboard credit and a refund – although it did take some outcry from the passengers.”

Australian cruise brand p&o cruises is closing.

Australian cruise brand P&O Cruises is closing, and a ship that regularly sails in and out of Auckland will be removed from the fleet.

P&O's parent company Carnival Corporation will fold the operations into its flagship Carnival Cruise Line brand early next year, it said.

The Pacific Explorer will be retired after next February, while the Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships will be rebranded.

Anyone booked on the Pacific Explorer from March next year will be refunded, P&O Cruises said.

"All itineraries on Pacific Explorer scheduled to sail after 2nd March 2025 are being cancelled," it said.

"If you are booked on one of these itineraries you will be contacted by Guest Services in the coming days with refund details."

The South Pacific's small population, and significantly higher operating and regulatory costs led to the decision to close the brand, Carnival Corporation's chief executive Josh Weinstein said.

Carnival Corporation would remain committed to Australia where it was the largest cruise operator in the region with 19 ships calling on 78 destinations, he said.

The company has 60 percent of the market share.

"P&O Cruises Australia is a storied brand with an amazing team, and we are extremely proud of everything we have accomplished together in Australia and the broader region," Weinstein said.

P&O Cruises Australia shutting down as Carnival Cruise Line grows

Parent company Carnival Corporation said it was diverting resources to where the most demand was. Photo / Supplied

Travellers planning to book a cruise on the P&O Pacific Explorer around New Zealand may want to hold tight after an announcement by the brand.

P&O Cruises revealed the Australia brand will be sunset in February. All sailings on the Pacific Explorer will be cancelled from March 2, while Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter will be integrated into the sister line, Carnival Cruise Line.

The announcement was made via P&O’s website, which stated the company was “immensely proud of P&O Cruises Australia’s 90-year heritage”.

Carnival Corporation & plc, the cruise ship line’s parent company, announced the news on Tuesday and confirmed P&O would be integrated into Carnival Cruise Line. From March, it would no longer exist, but Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure would continue to sail under the Carnival Cruise Line brand.

It’s not unusual to see smaller cruise lines being restructured into larger lines.

“There’s been a lot of restructuring — a lot of bigger cruise lines, you take over smaller ones,” she says.

This does not mean P&O Cruises Australia is insolvent or business is tanking — rather, the parent company saw more efficiencies by restructuring the brand into its larger line.

A statement from Carnival Corporation CEO Josh Weinstein suggested the strategic move had been made to divert resources to where the most demand was.

“Despite increasing Carnival Cruise Line’s capacity by almost 25 per cent since 2019, including transferring three ships from Costa Cruises, guest demand remains incredibly strong,” he said.

“So, we’re leveraging our scale in an even more meaningful way by absorbing an entire brand into the world’s most popular cruise line.”

After the integration next year, Carnival Cruise Line will make up about 35 per cent of the company’s total global capacity. Between 2019 and 2028, Carnival Cruise Line is expected to grow 50 per cent.

Carnival, based in Miami, appears to see the South Pacific as too expensive to operate in.

“Given the strategic reality of the South Pacific’s small population and significantly higher operating and regulatory costs, we’re adjusting our approach to give us the efficiencies we need to continue delivering an incredible cruise experience year round to our guests in the region,” Weinstein said.

What happens to P&O Cruise passengers who booked trips?

Travellers booked on a Pacific Explorer cruise that departs after March 2 will have their trips cancelled and refunded.

P&O apologised for the “necessary” change and said all guests affected by the cancellations, including travel agents, had been emailed.

If passengers paid a deposit, they can receive a full refund or Future Cruise Credit with bonus Onboard Spending Money. Those who booked with travel agents will get their refund through their agent.

P&O said refunds could take up to 20 business days after the online form closes on June 30.

Cruises departing before March 2 will go ahead as planned. On October 30, the final Pacific Explorer sailing from Auckland is scheduled to depart, and arrive in Melbourne five nights later.

“If you are booked to cruise before this date, your itinerary is unaffected and we look forward to welcoming you on board soon,” the company wrote.

The Pacific Explorer returned to Auckland on August 12, 2022, after international borders reopened, to a fanfare welcome. Since then it’s operated many newsworthy cruises, including one that rescued a stranded man who had capsized near Noumea, and intercepted a small yacht in distress , providing medical care to one of the guests.
