The 2022 Tour de France begins on Friday, July 1st with a 13.3km individual time trial through Copenhagen, Denmark. (Yes, Denmark!) So it’s time to start planning how you’re going to watch it.

Whether that means streaming from your phone, starting your morning with the previous day’s highlights, or inviting your friends over for a viewing party, the options for watching the Tour de France are plentiful.

For the Fanatics

In general, NBC offers the most accessible and affordable (and legal) options for American viewers to watch the Tour de France through its Peacock Premium streaming service for $4.99 a month. For ad-free coverage you’ll need a subscription to Peacock Premium Plus, which runs $9.99 a month. Eligible Comcast Xfinity X1 and Flex customers and Cox Contour customers may already access Peacock Premium for free.

You could cancel your subscription at the end of the Tour, but consider this: by subscribing to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus you’ll also have access to the full men’s and women’s Tours as well as other races covered by NBC and its partners, including the 2022 Vuelta a España and next year’s editions of Paris-Nice and Paris-Roubaix.

The Peacock app is available on Roku, Apple devices, Android and AndroidTV devices, Google platforms, Chromecast, Xbox devices, Playstation 4 and 4 Pro, VIZIO SmartCast TVs, and LG Smart TVs. You can also watch online via the Peacock website.

If you have a good cable package and prefer conventional viewing on your television, you’re in luck: NBC will offer the race to cable subscribers via the USA Network and CNBC . Live coverage often starts around 7 a.m. ET, so 9-to-5ers will likely need to record each stage and watch later. (Check the full schedule for details.)

No Cable? No Problem.

If you don’t have cable and want more than what’s offered on the NBC app, a subscription to FuboTV costs $70 per month. Add the $12 per month cycling package you’ll have full access to NBC’s coverage of the race. Fubo’s also great for those who love cycling year round, as FuboTV has a full-time cycling channel covering the major Tours, the Classics, some World Championships, and even BMX racing. Riders to Watch

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) has won the last two Tours and starts this year’s race as the overwhelming favorite. He can do it all: climb, descend, time trial–even the cobblestones of Belgium and Northern France have proven to be no match for the 23-year-old. Assuming he avoids crashes and bad luck during the Tour’s dangerous first week , he should have little trouble taking his third win.

Pogačar’s biggest challenge should come from Jumbo-Visma’s co-captains, Slovenia’s Primož Roglič and Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard, who finished second to Pogačar in 2020 and 2021, respectively. If they can play to one another’s strengths and avoid worrying about which one is their team’s “true” leader, then they might have a chance to dethrone the two-time defending champ.

The INEOS Grenadiers have won seven of the last ten Tours de France with four different riders–so clearly they know what it takes to win the world’s biggest bike race. But Pogačar’s proven to be a tough nut for the British super team to crack. This year we expect them to count on a mix of both old and new in their bid to reclaim the yellow jersey, with co-captains Geraint Thomas, who won the Tour in 2018, and Daniel Martinez, who’s riding only his third Tour and his first as his team’s protected rider, expected to lead the way.

Other riders to keep an eye on include Australia’s Ben O’Connor, Russia’s Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA-hansgrohe), and Colombia’s Rigoberto Uran (EF Education-EasyPost).

The world’s greatest cyclists journey across France in the biggest race of the year and Peacock is the only place to see it all.

It’s time for cycling’s most anticipated event of the year. The Tour de France brings the best professional cyclists in the world together for a three-week cross-country race. The route is different every year, but the destination remains the same: A grand finish on Paris’ Champs-Elysées. No other competition is quite like it. Even if you don’t normally follow professional cycling, you’ll find yourself drawn in, captivated by the 21-day drama on display. If you want to see it all, there’s one place you need to be. 

What Is the Tour de France? 

The Tour de France is a massive bike race that takes cyclists on a three-week journey through France. With the exact route changing every year, this is a unique challenge unlike anything else on the cycling calendar. The race is broken up into stages, with each day covering a certain portion of the route. Each stage has its own winner, and the winner of the entire event is the person who has the fastest time of all 21 stages. Every stage matters. Even winning one, even if the rider doesn’t win the tournament, will boost that rider’s standing significantly. Only the absolute best, most competitive riders make it to the Tour de France, so tensions are high for the entire three-week race. 

This year’s event will take 176 riders through 3,404 km of road, hill, and mountain terrain. Multiple stages will force cyclists to climb for more than an hour straight. It’s a tough route that encourages athletes to take risks to get ahead. This year’s edition of the Tour de France is sure to be the most memorable yet.

Where can I watch the Tour de France? 

The Grand Départ will be LIVE on both NBC and Peacock. After that, most stages will be exclusive to Peacock, but some will also be broadcast on USA. If you want to see every stage, including the finale on the Champs Elysées in Paris, you’ll want to make sure you have Peacock.

Which Cyclists Should I Look Out For? 

Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard is definitely one to watch. He’s an absolute phenom and there’s absolutely a possibility of him repeating this year. He’s not the only favorite though. Tadej Pogacar, who won the Tour in 2020 and 2021, will likely fight for the top spot the whole way through. The battle between these two is one of the most-anticipated elements of this year’s race. 

Australian cyclists Ben O’Connor and Jai Hindley could also make some noise, as could France’s David Gaudu and Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz. They could even pose a threat to the top two favorites if things break their way. Cycling is a fickle and unpredictable sport, after all. There are also a few American cyclists worth paying attention to, particularly Matteo Jorgenson and Neilson Powless. Even if they don’t win the whole thing, or even podium, they have a definite shot at securing some stage wins. That alone is a career highlight for pro cyclists.

The most convenient way to watch the Tour de France for free is by using an over-the-air (OTA) antenna to pick up your local NBC station. Unfortunately, NBC doesn’t show a lot of race coverage—mostly encore presentations of early and late stages. But it never hurts having an antenna in your TV setup.

The wait is nearly over for the biggest bike race of the year, the Tour de France 2024 . Like us, you'll probably be wanting to tune in and watch, so we've put together a comprehensive guide to exactly how you can watch everything from live coverage to highlights of this iconic Grand Tour.

It should be an exciting battle for overall victory, with four potential winners all vying for the maillot jaune. Reigning champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease A Bike), Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) and Primož Roglič (Bora-Hansgrohe) are the men most likely, although newly-anointed Giro d'Italia champion Pogačar is the only rider to have come through the early season unscathed. The other three have missed training time after tangling with each other in the same crash in Itzulia Basque Country in April.

Vingegaard was the worst affected , and in early June there was still a question mark over whether he would definitely be at the Tour de France.

There are plenty of sprinting opportunities scattered throughout the race. Last year's green jersey Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) will be the man to beat, pushed hard others including Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and Fabio Jakobsen (dsm-firmenich-PostNL). Many eyes will also be on Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan), who returns for his last Tour de France in the hope of finally beating the all-time 35-stage-win record that he is currently tied on with Eddy Merckx.

The final stage sees the race make way for the Paris Olympic Games and finish outside the capital for the first time in history, with a time trial from Monaco to Nice.

When is the Tour de France? 

The Tour de France will begin in Florence on June 29, and finish three weeks later on July 21 in Nice. Individual stages will be broadcast in full on Discovery+ .

NBC Sports, Peacock and the Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) today announced a six-year extension for exclusive U.S. media rights for the Tour de France.

Beginning with the 111 th Tour de France in June 2024, Peacock will become the exclusive home of the Tour de France in the United States through 2029 with live start-to-finish coverage of every stage . Select stages will also simulcast live on NBC throughout the three-week event. Daily coverage on Peacock will include NBC Sports-produced pre- and post-race studio shows, full-stage replays, highlights, stage recaps, rider interviews, and more.

As part of its previous agreement, NBC Sports and Peacock will present full live coverage of 110th Tour de France this summer (July 1-23, 2023). NBC Sports’ full coverage schedule for the 2023 Tour de France will be announced in the coming months.

“We’re excited to reach this long-term agreement with A.S.O. to present the world’s most prestigious cycling event live on Peacock for years to come,” said Jon Miller, President, Acquisitions and Partnerships, NBC Sports. “With the Tour de France and our extensive cycling portfolio, we are proud to continue as the home of cycling in the United States, while continuing to bolster Peacock’s best-in-class slate of live sports programming.”

“We are delighted to be able to extend our long-term partnership with NBCUniversal, which promotes the Tour de France and all the major A.S.O. sporting events to the American public on a cross-platform basis, including women’s cycling such as the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift that NBC Sports has supported since the first edition in July 2022. The combined coverage via Peacock, which will show the entire races from the beginning to the end, and network television, will ensure that everyone has access to the best of world cycling. Super fans won’t miss any of the twists and turns that cycling holds. NBC Sports will remain the home of cycling in the United States for another six years and in 2029 we will celebrate the 29th anniversary of a historic partnership that is proof of America’s sincere love for cycling and the Tour,” declared Yann Le Moenner, CEO of A.S.O.

As part of the agreement, NBC Sports will present many additional A.S.O. events throughout the year, including cycling events such as La Vuelta a España, which is the final Grand Tour event of the year following the Tour de France, La Vuelta Feminina by Carrefour.es, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the Spring Classics including the men’s and women’s Paris-Roubaix, Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift, the Ardennaises Classics (men and women) that are La Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Criterium du Dauphine, and Paris Tours. Also included are the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, the world’s second-largest marathon, and the Dakar Rally , the world’s most challenging off-road endurance race.

Comcast/NBC Sports has served as the U.S. home of the Tour de France since 2001.

Stage 19 was the last chance saloon for those riders who were neither pure climbers or lighting fast sprinters, so pretty much 90% of the peloton . A constantly rolling but not savage stage between Moirans-en-Montagne and Poligny would be the venue for someone to prevail and take a prized stage win before the final weekend. 

Naturally competition was fierce to make it into the break with countless attacks launched before 36 hardy riders made it clear with just 65 kilometres left to race. It was always expected the decisive point of the course would be the final climb, the Cote d’Ivory and thus is was as the group exploded leaving three riders up front Kasper Asgreen (Soudal Quick-Step), Ben O’Connor (AG2R Citroen) and Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious).

As hard as the fractured bunch behind tried they could not close the gap to the front three who arrived at the finish to fight between them. Asgreen, the winner the previous day was favourite but it was the determined Slovenian Mohoric who took the win with a final lurch to the line to take it by the width of a tyre. This was the third stage win for Bahrain Victorious and the third to be emotionally dedicated to their former rider Gino Mader who tragically died at the Tour de Swiss. 

Stage 20 had been designed so the battle for yellow could go right down to the wire, to be decided on the very last climb of the race. Unfortunately though that battle was over but there were still plenty of other battles further down the classification that were to be fought for and it did indeed turn into a classic stage of aggressive racing. 

The first contest to be settled was that for the polka dot Jersey. In the lead was Giulio Ciccone but up to four other riders could have taken his crown. In the end he triumphed sealing victory by taking maximum points on top of the Col de la Schlucht to become the first Italian since 1992 to win the climbers classification. 

On the next climb, from the break containing Ciccone a smaller group including Tom Pidcock and Thibault Pinot broke clear with Pinot then attacking alone. On his home roads and with tens of thousands of rampant French fans screaming his name he went solo in search of the stage win. Could it be? Would the fairytale come true in his last Tour? Alas no. He did enjoy one final hurrah but it was the favourites who caught the break and now recovered from a couple of bad days Pogacar bagged the win to salvage his race. 

The final stage of the Tour is half procession and half eyeballs out racing up and down the cobbles of the Champs Elysée. What starts with photo opportunities and glasses of champagne ends with the most highly prized sprint stage in front of the thousands that line the route. Hitting the famous boulevard the peloton as is tradition was all together but not for long as the irrepressible Tadej Pogacar decided to shake things up and go out on the attack. 

Could he defy the might of the peloton and take the unlikeliest of victories? Also no, and he wasn’t the last to try and audacious attack before everything came back to gather for a final mass gallop to the line. All eyes were on Jasper Phillipsen, this year’s sprint king but just as it looked like he had got it, across surged Jordi Meeus (Bora-Hansgrohe) to take his first ever stage win, and what a stage to do it on. 

Yellow jersey wearer Jonas Vingegaard crossed the line a few seconds later flanked by his whole team, his second victory in two years confirmed, which in the end was a very comfortable one and looks likely to be the foundation of a period of total dominance.

It's almost time to throw your winter and spring fitness out of the window, as you settle in to sit on the couch watching three weeks of wall-to-wall coverage of the 2024 Tour de France – plus another week in August for the Tour de France Femmes.

This year, there's something a little different on offer with the Grand Départ in Florence, and another three Italian stage starts before the race enters France.

Although it skirts Paris, this time the race never makes it to the Champs-Élysées, heading back south to finish in Nice.

If you’ve got five-plus hours to spend each day, you can watch the entire men's race end-to-end in many territories. For the more time-pressed, plenty of highlight options compress the day’s action into an hour or so.

If you’re really stuck for time, daily five-minute highlights on the Le Tour website – which are also posted to YouTube – will keep you abreast of all the action.

Unlike many other big cycling races, terrestrial broadcasters pay attention to the Tour de France, so you can watch at least some of it subscription-free in most territories. There's a full list of broadcasters by country on the official Le Tour site.

There’s also the option to use a VPN to stream from a country with free terrestrial coverage, although most VPNs with decent geographic reach and streaming speeds will require a subscription – and you may have to listen to commentary in French.

How can I watch the Tour de France live in the UK?

In the UK, ITV4 and Eurosport/Discovery+ are broadcasting live. ITV4 is free to air, as is S4C for Welsh speakers.

Eurosport requires a subscription at £6.99 per month or £59.99 per year.

There's coverage on TG4 in the Republic of Ireland.

Viewers in the US can enjoy daily coverage on NBC Sports and Peacock. You can watch on NBC on demand too – there's no additional charge above your cable, satellite or telco TV provider's subscription cost.

How can I watch the Tour de France live in Australia?

Cycling fans in Australia can enjoy every stage live on SBS . Handily, there’s a free on-demand service if you’re not an insomniac, while there are daily highlights on the SBS Sport website. There's coverage and more on the SBS Tour Tracker app too.

Stages and start times

Like the race itself, stage start times are a moveable feast, with starts as early as 11.15am CET and as late as 2.40pm CET.

End times will vary significantly too, depending on stage length, how hard the terrain is and how fast it’s ridden.

Fortunately, the Tour de France has organised a few of these races before, so it has a pretty good idea of when the first riders are likely to reach the finish.

Again, that’s highly variable – anything from 4.28pm CET to 7.30pm CET – so you need to be on your toes to make sure you're watching early enough not to miss the end-stage action.

Here’s a table, taken from the official Le Tour website, of expected start and end times for each stage. If you want to see particular action, the time the race is expected to reach intermediate points is set out on the site too, right down to railway level crossings and tiny villages in la France profonde .

Tour de France 2024 is almost here. Unless you’re amongst the crowds who line the track with grasped banners and words of support, you’re not getting anywhere close to the podium. But, there are more than a few ways to watch the Tour de France. From watching it stateside to using a VPN , here’s how to watch the Tour de France wherever you are.

When is it?

The Tour de France will roll away on 29 June for its 111th edition. For the first time ever, the Grand Départ will take place in Italy and, due to the Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place in Paris, the race will not finish in the French capital for the first time. Instead, the world’s best cyclists will end the race in Nice on 21st July.

For its 111th outing, the gruelling contest is a month-long marathon of mountain climbs, downhill sprints and more than a few falls. The Tour has born legends, controversies, and along the way, some champions who risk everything for a yellow jersey (as well as a few endorsement deals along the way).

Where to watch: US

If you’re in the US, the best way to watch the Tour de France is through  Peacock Premium . Peacock will air every single live stage of the Tour de France daily. On some days, NBC and USA Network will also be showing coverage and highlights.

Where to watch: UK

In the UK, there’s plenty of free options to catch every minute of the Tour de France. This year, coverage can be found on ITV4, Eurosport, Discovery+ and GCN+ (Global Cycling Network).

Air times are still yet to be confirmed, but live racing and highlights will be shown on ITV4 each day. It can also be streamed online through ITVX . Eurosport and GCN+ will also be showing every single minute, climb and sprint from every stage. It’s also being shown through Eurosport’s Discovery+ streaming service, which gains access to sports content from the Eurosport Player, which ceased to exist from 13 January 2023.

One half of the Tour de France favourites spent the previous week at the Critérium du Dauphiné testing their legs, now it's time for the other half to flex theirs at the Tour de Suisse. The eight stage race covers almost 1,000 kilometres and climbs 18,000 metres as it crosses the mountainous country which provides the perfect stage to see who's form is building nicely.

With no Tadej Pogačar on the start sheet as he prepares at altitude and no Jonas Vingegaard as he continues to recover from injury the role of favourite rests on the shoulders of 2023 winner Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl - Trek). Although he's had a quiet season he will be keen to repeat last year's breakthrough victory in the Swiss Alps and reconfirm his place at cycling's top table. 

Going up against him with be the three pronged attack of Tom Pidcock, Egan Bernal and Jhonatan Narvaez of the INEOS Grenadiers with all eyes on Pidcock especially as he starts his serious attempt to be a stage race winner. Groupama - FDJ will be headed up by the young sensation Lenny Martinez and Israel - Premier Tech by the winner of this year's Fleche Wallonne , Stephen Williams.

Of those here to hunt stages and not chase overall victory look out for the likes of Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Dstny), Pello Bilbao (Bahrain - Victorious) and the local hero Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates).

Stage two did indeed come down to a bunch sprint, but only just. A frenetic final few kilometres saw a multitude of attacks on the run in to Regensdorf whith rider after rider hoping to break clear. In the end what was left of the peloton grouped together and emerging from the chaos is was Bryan Coquard ( Cofidis ) who took the win.

Stage three from Steinmaur to Rüschlikon is another chance for the sprinters but the hills towards the end may just provide a launch pad for an escape.

Tour de Suisse 2024 stages

The 2024 Tour de Suisse kicks off with a 4.8km prologue in the town of Vaduz to implement a GC order right from day one. After this brief yet intense beginning the following day sees the riders face a lumpy 177 kilometre journey from Vaduz to Regensdorf which although featuring three classified climbs is more then likely to finish in a bunch sprint. 

Those sprinters who miss out on stage two will have another chance on stage three at the finish in Rüschlikon, but with multiple short sharp ascents in the final kilometres they could be foiled by a late break away. 

Stage four is where the real action starts with the race finishing at the top of the world famous Gotthardpass. With almost 30 kilometres uphill the teams of the favourites will have to make sure their leaders are well placed to make their mark at the summit.

Stage five from Ambri to Cari features the second summit finish in two days with an even more testing finish than the day before, then stage six sees the first HC climb of the race. The 151 kilometres from Locarno to Blatten are dominated by the colossal Nufenenpass, but coming 60 kilometres from the end can it be decisive? 

Yet more mountains and yet another summit finish are on the cards on stage seven around Villars-sur-Ollon as the race crosses the same two mountains twice on a giant loop in and out of the town. 

The final stage like the first is a time trial. This time a longer test at 15.7 kilometres anyone hoping to gain time will have one last chance.

French President Emmanuel Macron: "Let us be worthy of those who landed here"

French President Emmanuel Macron closed the international ceremony marking 80 years since D-Day with a speech honoring the soldiers who fought in the largest seaborne invasion in human history and, as other leaders have done throughout the day, drawing parallels to the current geopolitical unrest — most notably the war in Ukraine.

Perhaps the strongest part of Macron's speech was its end, in which he honored Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — who was in attendance — and the Ukrainian people's fight against Russia.

"Faced with the return of war to our continent, faced with the questioning of everything they fought for, faced with those who claim to change borders by force or rewrite history, let us be worthy of those who landed here. Your presence here today, Mr. President of Ukraine, says it all,” Macron said, followed by a brief interruption of the roar of a fighter jet flyover.

Europe has not seen the type of ground conflict that is raging in Ukraine since the end of World War II, and this year’s anniversary comes as Russian forces advance on the battlefield – handing Kyiv a series of tactical defeats and poking holes in the already fragile Western alliance opposed to the Kremlin’s war.

"We know that liberty is a fight for every morning," Macron added. "For everyone in this world that lives hoping for liberty, for equality, for fraternity the sixth of June is a day without end, a never-ending dawn."

World War II veteran dies while traveling to France for D-Day anniversary

Robert Persichitti, a 102-year-old World War II US Navy veteran, died last week while on his way to France to commemorate  the 80th anniversary of D-Day , according to Honor Flight Rochester, a veterans organization.

Persichitti was a “wonderful, pleasant, humble guy,” who was “easy to talk to,” said Honor Flight Rochester President and CEO Richard Stewart, who told CNN he learned of his friend’s death last Friday.

“We miss him,” said Stewart.

While Persichitti passed away bound for Normandy — where the Allied forces’  landing on June 6, 1944 , laid the foundation for the defeat of Nazi Germany — he served in the Pacific as a radioman aboard the USS Eldorado, Stewart said. His tour of duty included Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Guam, according to Stewart and  the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame , into which Persichitti was inducted in 2020.

Persichitti fell ill last week during a stop in Germany while headed for Normandy, Al DeCarlo, a friend who was traveling with Persichitti, told  CNN affiliate WHAM . Persichitti was airlifted to the hospital and died soon after, DeCarlo said.

“The doctor was with him. He was not alone, he was at peace and he was comfortable,” DeCarlo said. “She put his favorite singer, Frank Sinatra, on her phone and he peacefully left us.”

Persichitti had heart problems in the past, “but for 102, I would say he was in superb health,” Stewart told CNN.

Persichitti was born in a coal mining town outside Pittsburgh, Stewart said, describing his friend's “humble, poor beginnings.” After the war, Persichitti worked as a carpentry teacher in Rochester, New York, according to the Veterans Hall of Fame, and in 1972 received a degree from SUNY Buffalo.

Trump posts tribute on 80th anniversary of D-Day landings in Normandy

Former US President Donald Trump on Thursday posted a tribute to the “immortal heroes who landed at Normandy” to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. 

“Today, we honor the immortal heroes who landed at Normandy 80 years ago. The men of D-Day will live forever in history as among the bravest, noblest, and greatest Americans ever to walk the earth. They shed their blood, and thousands gave their lives, in defense of American Freedom. They are in our hearts today and for all time,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

France's Macron awards 3 more people the Legion of Honor

French President Emmanuel Macron used the international ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day to award the Legion of Honor, France's highest military or civilian distinction, to three more American veterans: Joseph Miller, Richard Calvin Rung and Arlester Brown.

Earlier in the day, Macron awarded the Legion of Honor to Christian Lamb , a 104-year-old British woman credited with having made the maps for the D-Day landing, and 11 other American veterans.

Testimonials and musical performances are taking place during international ceremony

As the international ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day on Omaha Beach is underway, testimonials from those who fought in the war are currently being read out.

Along with the testimonials, musical performances are demonstrated in front of attendees.

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to deliver an address later during the ceremony.

Austin says "Ukraine matters" in the midst of D-Day ceremonies

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed Russia's war in Ukraine while participating in D-Day ceremonies, telling CNN's Wolf Blitzer that "Ukraine matters."

"I have engaged members of Congress on both sides, in both parties. I have seen throughout strong support for Ukraine, and even though it took a while to get the legislation through, I was confident that that the right thing was going to happen."

He continued, "Because anytime you see that type of support on both sides of the aisle for a cause, Congress will find a way to get things done, which is what they did in this case, because it's the right thing to do."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at Thursday's international ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day to a standing ovation and a rousing applause.

Zelensky's presence — and Russian leader Vladimir Putin's absence, despite Soviet Russia's key role in winning the war in Europe — is highly symbolic given how the war in Ukraine is casting a shadow over the day's events.

Several world leaders have already used their speeches to cast parallels between Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the aggression of Nazi Germany that sparked World War II.

French Open 2024: Scores, schedule, results, start time, live stream, how to watch final matches

Carlos alcaraz and iga swiatek captured the grand slam titles at roland garros.

World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz survived a five-set battle Sunday against No. 4 Alexander Zverev to win the 2024 French Open men's singles title. The 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory helped Alcaraz, 21, become the youngest man to win a major on all three surfaces.

Alcaraz was down two sets, but he managed to climb back and force the decider despite needing a medical timeout in the fourth set to take care of his left thigh. Zverev created issues for Alcaraz with his powerful serve, and at one point Alcaraz even told his team how much he was struggling with the height and bounce of the ball. 

Nevertheless, Alcaraz remained persistent and earned his third Grand Slam trophy after a competitive match that lasted four hours and 20 minutes. 

Rafael Nadal, who has won a record-14 trophies at Roland Garros, was not 100% healthy coming into the tournament and got eliminated in the first round by Zverev. However, he still watched the final and congratulated his fellow Spaniard on the achievement. 

In the women's competition, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek completed her French Open three-peat with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jasmine Paolini on Saturday. She is now the youngest active player with at least five Grand Slam trophies. 

Paolini found a 2-1 lead in the first set, but Swiatek responded by completely taking over and winning the next 10 games. Paolini was able to get on the board in the second set, but Swiatek had all the momentum and was impossible to stop. 

Swiatek has now won 19 consecutive clay matches, including the Madrid and Italian Open finals. She became the first player to win those titles along with the French Open since Serena Williams in 2013. 

Although she lost Saturday, Paolini is having a breakout season at age 28. She had not made it past the second round of a major until this year and will be making her debut in the WTA top 10 next week.
