MIDDLE ISLAND & LAKE HILLIER

At certain times of the year, we can offer trips to Middle Island and the world renowned Lake Hillier. A charter gives you a chance to see the vibrant pink water up close, as well as the ability to explore the island’s natural and historical wonders. Middle Island is situated approximately 130km east of Esperance and 9km south of Cape Arid National Park, the nearest mainland. It is an A Class Nature Reserve vested with the Department Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), and is the largest island in the Recherché Archipelago.

Middle Island, Esperance WA – What to Expect The western end of Middle Island is dominated by Flinders Peak, a large granite hill 174m high. Behind the beach is Lake Hillier, a shallow saline lake about 1km across and incredibly pink in colour. Salt was mined from this lake years ago and train tracks are still visible.

Matthew Flinders and his botanist Robert Brown visited Middle Island in January 1802 to collect flora material during his voyage through the Recherché Archipelago. A rough track (marked with surveyors tape) leads to the top of Flinders Peak. On the summit there is a cairn of rocks. Many climbers who reach this peak have recorded their name and date in a register found near the cairn. From this summit, enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole island, Cape Arid and the islands to the south is available.

The northern bays of the island provide safe anchorage and good swimming beaches. The wreck of the vessel ‘SS Penguin’ is visible from the beach.

Lake Hillier itself is a short walk from the beach and the intense pink coloration is quite spectacular.

Historical sights found on the island indicate previous settlement. A granite fireplace with a baker’s oven is located south from the old hut in a direct line with Lake Hillier. Metallic remains of horse drawn rail wagons and old lightweight rails are located on the western end of Lake Hillier. They were probably used to transport the salt to the beach. About 300m east of the fishing hut and behind the coastal dunes is a rock well 6m deep and several granite fireplaces.

RED BULL VIDEO (below): Watch as Red Bull athlete Chuck Berry wing suit’s over spectacular Lake Hillier (located on Middle Island) , off the coast of Esperance, Western Australia. Find out how we can get you there!

Black Jack Anderson, Middle Island’s Resident Pirate Local legend has it that Black Jack Anderson, Australia’s only known resident pirate, once inhabited Middle Island for ten years. He came to Australia in 1826, where his crippled boat arrived in King George Sound (now Albany). While drinking with his whaling crew mates at the general store one night, a fight between the seamen broke out resulting in the death of a man. It was Black Jack who was held accountable for his death, although there was no evidence to prove him guilty.

Black Jack and a few crew mates fled the scene, stole a small chaser vessel and took off towards the Recherche Archipelago. At the time, the Recherche Archipelago was a dangerous place to sail, with the many reefs and small islands uncharted. At first the Pirates drifted through the islands, living off seals, before making their base on the biggest island in the archipelago – Middle Island. The soil was good, the vegetation healthy and it had fresh water. For the next ten years they ruled the islands, they hunted seals for their valuable skins, which sold for six shillings each and they raided passing supply ships heading either to Hobart or Sydney. He was later murdered by his own crew…

Tour Details

Day 1  – Perth to Esperance

Williams, Lake Grace, Newdegate, Lake King, Cascades, Esperance

On our first day we follow a series of ancient river beds, which are now salt lakes, into the heart of the Wheatbelt of Western Australia (Dumbleyung, Lake Grace, Newdegate and Lake King).

After morning tea at the town of Williams, we head south-east to Esperance.

At the unusually named Pussy Cat Hill, you will get the opportunity to view a memorial to Donald Campbell’s famous 1964 world water speed record when he raced his boat, Bluebird, across Lake Dumbleyung. This made Donald Campbell the fastest man on both land and water. Lake Dumbleyung is the largest natural body of inland water in Western Australia.

We take a break for lunch at Lake Grace.

Newdegate PUBLIC Silo Art.  In May 2018, faced with a row of CBH silos high above his head, Perth artist Brenton See conquered his fear of heights to paint four huge murals which draw inspiration directly from the flora and fauna of the area.

Continue to Lake King and cut across country to Frank Hann National Park, Cascades and into Esperance.

Esperance is our overnight stay for the next three nights. Discover and experience everything that makes this region so amazing.

Enjoy walks along the town’s foreshore overlooking the Recherche Archipelago , or  maybe go for a refreshing swim in the sparkling waters.

Accommodation: Esperance Island View Apartments

Day 2  – Esperance to Cape Le Grand National Park

Pink Lake Hillier, Lucky Bay, Duke of Orleans Bay and Wharton Bay

This morning we head out to experience a helicopter flight for an unforgettable flight to Lake Hillier, “The” pink lake in the Esperance region. Our 15-minute flight to Middle Island takes us over the spectacular coastal scenery that Cape Arid National Park is known for.  See Yokinup Bay, Cape Arid and Recherche Archipelago.

As we approach Middle Island, our pilot will circle Pink Lake Hillier and land on a natural rock platform where we will be shown to the edge of the pink lake.

Middle Island amazing history including the story about Black Jack Anderson, Australia’s only known pirate. Anderson and other cohortsfled King George’s Sound having been accused of murder.  Middle Island had the reputation as a lawless place continued for some time. In 1848 it was reported the island was known as “the resort of a set of lawless desperadoes, composed of runaway convicts, sealers, whalers and vagabonds.

This is a remarkable experience to be on Middle Island and at Lake Hillier where very few people have visited.

Scientists have recently explained that many extremophile microbes, bacteria and organism play a large part in the colour of the astounding lake living in an extremely high salinity environment.

This helicopter flight is a ‘must do’ experience whilst in Esperance.

Later we tour to Duke of Orleans Bay and Wharton Bay.

Wharton Beach offers magnificent coastal scenery, a superb beach of iridescent white sand and crystal blue waters. It is a photographer’s delight!

Your guide puts it out there and firmly believes this is Australia’s best beach!!!

Lunch at the Condinup Tavern and this afternoon we visit Cape Le Grand National Park and Lucky Bay. This beach is famous for its kangaroos, which are often seen sunning themselves on the white sandy shoreline.

Enjoy a cup of coffee at the Lucky Bean Café which is situated right on the beach.

Day 3  – Esperance Cruise, Great Ocean Drive

Scenic Wildlife Cruise, Great Ocean Drive, Cindy Poole Glass Gallery

This morning we join the Scenic Wildlife Cruise from Esperance.

With regular sightings of New Zealand Fur Seals, Australian Sea Lions, Cape Barren Geese, Common and Bottlenose Dolphins, White-bellied Sea Eagles (including feeding) – Whales (this cruise is season dependent). Bring your bathers for a swim in some of the world’s clearest water.

After lunch we tour the Great Ocean Drive to see Rotary Lookout, West Beach, Blue Haven, Twilight Cove and Spencer Lake.

We visit Cindy Poole Glass Artist, Gallery and Working Studio.

We also stop at WA’s very own Stonehenge, an exact sized replica of the famous landmark in England.  Step back in time 4,000 years and stand in the middle of this massive construction and feel how awesome it must have been when Stonehenge in UK was built.

On our return to Esperance visit Lucky Bay Brewing.  The only brewery in WA that sources premium quality raw barley direct from nearby local farmers to make the beer. Western Australia exports all of its Malting Barley. Hence the unique local brew is literally from paddock to pint with no mileage, fully organic, and years of experimenting to arrive at an award winning drop to be enjoyed by local farmers, local community, and all the while using locally produced grain. The paddock to pint concept is fully realised in Lucky Bay Brewing’s beers.

Day 4  – Esperance to Perth

Ravensthorpe, Hyden Wave Rock, York

On our last day, we visit Ravensthorpe; a picturesque agriculture and mining frontier town boasting spectacular local ranges scenery.

Ravensthorpe PUBLIC Silo Art. The landscape around Ravensthorpe comes alive every spring with thousands of species of wildflower bursting into colour, so Amok Island decided to focus on native Western Australian flora and fauna for his largest mural to date.

‘Each silo side shows a different stage of the flowering cycle of this species of Banksia:  from flower buds, to full bloom, to seedpods developing, drying out and opening’, explains the artist.

The artwork encircles the three silos infinitely; the final silo marks the beginning once again of the first, making a connection with the cycle of the seasons and grain farming processes this area is known for. This species, Banksia speciosa is only found between Hopetoun and the Great Australian Bight.

After morning tea / coffee  continue on to the spectacular natural phenomenon that is Wave Rock at Hyden.

Wave Rock was formed before the age of dinosaurs, about 2.7 billion years ago. It is one of the oldest rocks in the world.

Wave Rock is an ancient granite formation that has been exposed to weathering processes for over 60 million years. It is about 15 metres high and about 110 metres long.

It really does look like an ocean wave about to break on the shore.

After leaving Hyden and Wave Rock, we tour through the Eastern and Central Wheatbelt regions which are made up of farming communities with cropping, sheep and cattle as the main industries.

We finish the Perth to Esperance tour with a visit to the charming historic town of York, which is Western Australia’s first in land rural town, developed in 1831. York is an attractive rural town rich in Victorian and Federation buildings.

We arrive back into Perth at approximately 6:00 pm.

A Scenic Flight Over The Pink Lake In Esperance

Have you heard of the pink lake that lies just off the shore of Esperance?

Staying pink all year round, Lake Hillier has become famous, as it lies right alongside the azure blue ocean, giving a beautiful contrast of pink and blue in the middle of the Recherche Archipelago , a group of 105 mini rock islands that lie off the coast of Esperance. Located quite a way off the mainland of Australia on Middle Island, the best way to catch a glimpse of this iconic lake is by jumping on a scenic flight.

Booking our experience with Viator

We booked our scenic flight with Viator . Viator make it so easy to book all your activities and attraction tickets in one place, with thousands of activities around the world. You can check out the scenic flight we booked on Viator with this link – it’s called the  Lake Hillier – Middle Island Flight .

One of the great things about booking with Viator is that they have a price match guarantee on all the experiences they sell. So if you book your tickets and then when you arrive at your destination, notice that prices are cheaper within three days of your booking, they will match the price and refund the difference. Such a great peace of mind when you’re booking experiences ahead of time.

Booking through Viator it was super easy to choose the date and time that we would like to fly, as well as to send any necessary information required to the tour operator – which in the case of this scenic flight, was our name and weight, to assist with weight distribution on the flight.

The flight to Lake Hillier is run by Fly Esperance Scenic Flights and most days there are three flights a day, offering heaps of flexibility with your travel plans. We were booked for a 9am departure and arrived at Esperance Airport the required 15 minutes before we were due to leave. There were six of us, plus our pilot Elise, on the flight that morning, so it was quite a full plane.

We jumped on board a GA-8 Airvan, which has room for seven passengers and gives everyone a window seat. Incredibly important on a scenic flight . We were seated in assigned seating based on weight for the plane – which is why they asked for our weights at the time of booking, but in such a small plane everyone is pretty close to their travel companion. We were seated in separate rows, but on opposite sides of the plane, so it kind of felt like we were alongside each other anyway.

Due to Lake Hillier and Middle Island’s location, the scenic flight actually takes an hour and a half to two hours, depending on the weather and how windy it is at the time of your flight. Because it’s so far away, you actually get a scenic flight over most of Esperance and the beautiful coastlines that line the national parks in the area.

Taking off from Esperance Airport, the scenic flight begins by flying over the town of Esperance and the marina, as well as giving you a great view over the Great Ocean Drive and the beaches close to the town of Esperance, including Twilight Beach, Blue Haven and Salmon Beach.

Then it’s off across the ocean, making a beeline directly for Middle Island.

On the flight out to the pink lake, the left side of the plane gets the most action. The left side got the best views of the town of Esperance and the marina, as well as amazing views over some of Cape Le Grand’s best beaches, including Hellfire Bay and Lucky Bay. The rocky coastline is just as stunning as the blue water that lies in the bays, with rock formations jutting out far into the ocean. The right side of the plane got the best views of the coastline close by to Esperance (including beaches such as Twilight Beach and Blue Haven), but then it’s mostly ocean and sea, with the exception of the rocky islands that make up the Recherche Archipelago.

As we got closer to Lake Hillier you could see the pink lake coming up in the distance. It’s so bright, as pink as all the images you’ve seen online, with no filters or colour editing required. It’s like looking down at a perfect photograph straight from the window of the plane.

Lake Hillier

Lake Hillier is one of the only pink lakes in Australia that actually stays pink all year round. The colour of the lake is permanent, and will even stay the same colour if you took some out in a container. It is thought that the pink colour comes from the organism dunaliella salina  that can be found in the water.

The pink lake is located on Middle Island, the largest island in the Recherche Archipelago. It’s approximately 600 metres long and 250 metres wide. There are also several pretty beaches and little bays that lie along the coastline of Middle Island, which you can see as the flight does several loops of the island, making sure everyone gets that perfect photo opportunity.

Elise took us in closer for a better view, looping around the lake on both sides so that everyone on-board is treated to an unobstructed view over the lake. It’s really incredible just how pink that water is. I wonder if it’s any good to swim in?!

The return flight back to Esperance offers an even more of a great view over the coastlines, with some of the most beautiful views over the Cape Le Grand and Cape Arid beaches. This part of the scenic flight was definitely an unexpected bonus, and was actually my favourite part of the flight. The beaches are just so beautiful from above and a scenic flight gives an even more unique perspective than our usual drone views.

Flying back over the coastline, some of our favourite sights were:

The recherche archipelago.

Known locally as the Bay of Isles, the Recherche Archipelago is a group of 105 islands, as well as more than 1,200 “obstacles to shipping” , stretching over 230 kilometres across the coast line from east to west, as well as more than 50 kilometres off shore.

Indigenous Australians are thought to have inhabited some of the islands at least 13,000 years ago, with many artefacts found on some of the islands, including Salisbury Island, which is more than 60 kilometres off shore.

These islands can be seen off the coast of Esperance at pretty much every beach along the coastline, from the sky and the shore. Some of them are close enough to walk through shallow water or swim to, however most are inaccessible as they don’t have anywhere to tie up a boat.

Sitting a few hours drive away from Esperance, and quite a remote little area, Cape Arid National Park is home to stunning beaches that are pretty much deserted, with tumbling white sand dunes and bright blue clear water. Not many people make the trek all the way out to Cape Arid, so seeing it from the sky might just be the best way to experience this part of the coastline.

This was actually one of our favourite parts of the flight, the views along the Cape Arid coastline were unbelievable. Beaches that were completely deserted, sand dunes that can be seen from the sky. There are often dolphins, seals and big schools of fish spotted from the flights in these waters as well.

A fantastic sight from the sky, you get to see Lucky Bay in all it’s glory when you view it from a scenic flight. Lucky Bay is a unique shape, curved around to create a perfect bay, and from the sky you can see the whole bay, as well as the nearby campgrounds.

Even from the sky it’s easy to see why Lucky Bay is such a favourite with visitors. Even from the sky the water is an impressive colour near the shore. A bright blue that can be seen from hundreds of metres in the air.

It’s good to know that due to the flight plan, the left side of the plane will get to see Lucky Bay (and the neighbouring bays) both ways. So if this is something that’s important to you, maybe ask if it’s okay if you have a seat on the left.

Frenchman Peak

A tall rock that appears out of pretty flat ground in Cape Le Grand National Park, Frenchman Peak is a hiking trail that offers those game enough to get to the top 360 degree views over the national park and coastline. The Aboriginal name for the rock is Mandooboornup and it is an important landmark for the local Aboriginal tribes. The hike is incredibly steep (it’s actually a level 5, is that the hardest?!) and can be quite dangerous on days of high winds, so this is a great way to see a similar view.

From the plane you can often see people standing at the top of the rock, taking a break after completing the gruelling hike up there. It’s a great view of the peak that you’re unlikely to see any other way, standing tall in the middle of the flat land. The best view of Frenchman Peak is on the right side of the plane.

While the Lake Hillier and Middle Island scenic flight is definitely not a cheap one, we were glad that we decided to jump onto it during our visit to Esperance. This iconic lake is definitely best seen from the sky, with views you will not get anywhere else from Esperance. We were definitely really pleased with how much of the Cape Le Grand and Cape Arid coastline you get to see during the flight as well, as this was pretty unexpected and very beautiful to see from above.

Thank you to Viator for inviting us to try out on of their tours. All opinions are, as always, our own.

Lake Hillier: Australia's Bubblegum Pink Lake

Lake Hillier, Western Australia

When you look at a map, lakes are universally marked with a pale blue colour. But when it comes to Lake Hillier in the remote south-west of Australia, the cartographer should really reach for a pencil shaded somewhere between ‘flamingo’ and ‘fairy floss’.

Where is it.

There are a few pink lakes dotted around the state of Western Australia, but Lake Hillier is the most well-known, the most bubblegum-coloured, and the most frequently visited. The lake is found on Middle Island in the Recherche Archipelago, a set of islands around 130 kilometres off the coast of Esperance in south-west WA. The islands were only discovered by British explorers as recently as 1802, and are still uninhabited. Esperance is either a seven-and-a-half hour direct drive from Perth , or a compulsory stop on a more meandering road trip along the coast, either exploring the scenic south-west of WA or conquering the epic journey across the Nullarbor Plain from the eastern states.

Lake Hillier, Western Australia

Why is it pink?

Scientists believe the bubblegum colour comes from the presence of Dunaliella salina, a micro algae containing a reddish pigment that thrives in salty lakes. Even when the water is scooped up into a container, the liquid retains its pink hue. Lake Hillier is 600 metres long and 250 metres wide, surrounded by gum trees and sand dunes protecting its pink water from the deep blue Southern Ocean. The lake was once used to mine salt – like they still do at similar pink lakes such as Salina de Torrevieja in Spain and Lake Retba in Senegal – but these days tourism is a far more valuable resource.

Lake Hillier, Western Australia

How can you see it?

The best way to see Lake Hillier is from above, with a bird’s eye view of its vibrant colour. Departing six times a day, seven days a week, Goldfields Air Services can fly you from Esperance over the white sand beaches and turquoise water of Frenchman’s Peak, the Cape Le Grand National Park and Lucky Bay before cruising over the picturesque Lake Hillier, the photo opportunity every visitor is desperate to stick on their Instagram. The experience goes for one hour and 40 minutes, and costs $370 for adults and $310 for kids. Visitors can’t swim in Lake Hillier, but you can explore the islands of the Recherche Archipelago on a diving and snorkelling experience from Esperance with one of the tour operators in town.

Lake Hillier on Middle Island Near Esperance, Western Australia

What else can you see and do nearby?

This colourful corner of Western Australia is all about the great outdoors – the opportunities to bushwalk, cycle, fish, dive, kayak, abseil and windsurf are some of the best in the country. The other iconic Instagrammable attraction is Lucky Bay in the Cape Le Grand National Park, a beautiful beach brimming with a resident population of kangaroos hopping all over the sand. Stokes National Park , Cape Arid National Park and Woody Lake Nature Reserve are also all worth a visit, especially between May/June and September/October, when wildflowers bloom and whales migrate along the coast.

Full day trip to Lake Hillier

A fabulous day trip for our family of four to Middle Island and the astonishingly pink Lake Hillier. The crew were helpful and attentive and keen to ensure that everyone had a great day. The island tour was interesting and unique and our guides gave us lots of information on the lake and the pirate settlements and lifestyle. Drinks, snacks and towels were always available and a good lunch was provided. I would recommend the tour to anyone who wants to get off the beaten track and enjoy a day on the water.

My family recently took the half day cruise around the Recherche Archipelago and enjoyed it immensely. The scenery is fabulous, the crew informative and entertaining, and the muffins delicious. We saw plenty of sea lions but it was the sea eagles who took the prize - without doubt the best bird show I have ever seen!.

Great day out, an amazing natural phenomenon. We had a large group so not much time for relaxing on the beach for a swim. Would be great if they could run the tour more frequently!

Great day spent on the water to finally visit Middle Island, Lake Hillier and what is left of the sealers' and pirates' camp. Excellent mixture of nature, sea air and quirky WA history. The crew were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Thank you for offering this yearly trip out to Middle Island. I plan to return and make the most of that beautiful beach with its turquoise waters.

We went on the Middle Island Cruise to see Lake Hillier. It was just an amazing experience and we're thankful to Jaimen and his crew for their hospitality. The Middle Island is a beautiful island with crystal clear water, white sandy beach and of course the magnificent Lake Hillier. The bright pink colour of the lake in harmony of the beautiful colours of the sea. We saw some bottlenose dolphins and fur seals on the way. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the trip and the team was very attentive to all of us. We highly recommend going on this tour as you need to see it to believe it.

Great day out with Esperance Island cruises, loved the tour of middle island and to see the pink lake. Would highly recommend! Welcoming crew who were constantly checking up on everyone to make sure they were doing okay.

Tour Details

Day 1  - Perth to Esperance

Day 2  - Esperance to Cape Le Grand National Park

Anderson and other cohortsfled King George's Sound having been accused of murder.  Middle Island had the reputation as a lawless place continued for some time. In 1848 it was reported the island was known as "the resort of a set of lawless desperadoes, composed of runaway convicts, sealers, whalers and vagabonds.

This is a remarkable experience to be on Middle Island and at Lake Hillier where very few people have visited.

Scientists have recently explained that many extremophile microbes, bacteria and organism play a large part in the colour of the astounding lake living in an extremely high salinity environment.

This helicopter flight is a 'must do' experience whilst in Esperance.

Later we tour to Duke of Orleans Bay and Wharton Bay. Wharton Beach offers magnificent coastal scenery, a superb beach of iridescent white sand and crystal blue waters. It is a photographer’s delight!

Your guide puts it out there and firmly believes this is Australia's best beach!!!

Day 3  - Esperance Cruise, Great Ocean Drive

We also stop at WA's very own Stonehenge, an exact sized replica of the famous landmark in England.

Day 4  - Esperance to Perth

We finish the Perth to Esperance tour with a visit to the charming historic town of York, which is Western Australia's first in land rural town, developed in 1831. York is an attractive rural town rich in Victorian and Federation buildings.

We arrive back into Perth at approximately 6:00 pm.

Lake Hillier

Lake Hillier

T here are hundreds of pink lakes around the world. But one of the most impressive and striking ones is Lake Hillier on a remote island of Western Australia.

5 out of 10 stars

GPS coordinates

Location, address, map of the site.

Lake Hillier is unusual element of the landscape

This lake is located on the largest island of Recherche Archipelago – a group of islands off the south coast of Australia. This island – Middle Island – is some 6.5 km long and some 9 km from the Australian mainland. It is a granite island that rises up to 174 m above sea level.

The lake is located near the northern shore of the island. It is 600 m long and 250 m wide. Lake is hypersaline: its salinity is around 30%. It shows: the shores are covered with the salt crust.

Lake Hillier stands out among the other pink lakes thanks to its spectacular location. Most of the pink lakes in the world are surrounded by the dreary desert landscape. Lake Hillier though is close to the blue-green Southern Ocean, surrounded by a lush green forest of Melaleuca and Eucalyptus bushes and trees. Spectacular!

Shore of Lake Hillier

Lake has a distinct pink color throughout the year. The water is pink even if it is taken away in the bottle. Such stability of this coloration is not common. Other pink lakes around the world are colored for a short period during the year or have less intense color.

This color is created by the sole inhabitants of the lake: microorganisms. A hypersaline lake is an extreme environment. Thus the organisms need to develop specific abilities to deal with the salinity: they produce lots of glycerol (to leave outside their bodies the excess salinity) and β-carotene (to protect themselves from ultraviolet radiation). And it is β-carotene which has an intense red-orange color. This substance is a natural colorant of many fruits and vegetables: carrots, mangoes, papayas, and others. In fact, some microorganisms are farmed to obtain β-carotene.

In Lake Hillier live several kinds of such microorganisms. The best known is the micro-algae Dunaliella salina but also Salinibacter ruber , Dechloromonas aromatica , others (2.). These microorganisms have been found around the world in similar water bodies.

Lake Hillier

Local people knew about the island and the lake but Europeans learned about this unusual lake in the early 19th century. Matthew Flanders was on the first circumnavigation of Australia with the expedition on HMS “Investigator” and in January 1802 set foot on Middle Island. Master of the ship John Thistle took a sample of water and they were the first to see that the water is pink also in the bottle. Flanders named the lake in honor of a crew member who died from dysentery shortly before.

During the 19th century, the island was occasionally used by seal hunters. Runaway convicts and even pirates used it as well.

The lake has large salt deposits. Due to this in 1889 Edward Andrews with both his sons moved to the island and started a business of salt mining. The salt was not suitable for food and the family left the island in 1890.

Recherche Archipelago became a beloved tourist destination during the 20th-21st centuries. Most visitors see the Middle Island with Lake Hillier during the helicopter tours. Some manage to reach the lake and even swim in it.

During the archaeological research on the western coast of the lake have been found remnants of settlements (1.).

Sadly, Lake Hillier received about 200 mm of rain 11 months ago which flooded the lake with soil from the surrounding island. This has turned the lake a brown colour. Unfortunately, for this reason we have no trips there planned at the moment. Experts believe it will probably be 12-24 months before it returns pink again.

We are still operating a regular 3 1/2 hour scenic wildlife cruises and we would love to have you join us on one of those. You can see all the information about that here https://www.esperancecruises.com.au/cruise/

Lake Hillier, also known as Lake Siri, is an oval saltwater lake on the Locheche archipelago in Esperance, Australia. Because of her mystery, it is called the heart of the earth girl, which is far away and not close to. We can only take a helicopter to overlook this natural beauty at high altitude, because the lake is located in the middle of Western Australia is not allowed to enter, because of the coastline next to it, she is also known as Australia's largest pork. In 1802, Matthew Flinders, a member of the British Navy expedition, discovered that the water of Lake Hillier was pink, so it was called "Pink Lake"! Can not enter the lake, only by helicopter to watch. How did Lake Hillier's pink form? One theory is that the lake is highly salinized and suitable for the survival of algae bacteria such as Duchenne algae and pink bacterium, and the algae color makes the lake appear pink. But that doesn't apply to explaining the pink of Lake Hillier, a perennial, even pink that changes with temperature, and the color is still pink even when bottled water. Whatever the cause behind it, the waters of Lake Hillier do not seem to have caused any harm to humanity. On the WA Indian Ocean Road Tour launched by joytrip, we will enter another pink lake, larger than Lake Hillier, where you will experience standing in the heart of the earth’s maiden heart and looking up at the sky. #Overseas Tour #Pink Girl Heart #Girl Heart #Pink System #Girl Heart Explosion #Australia Life #Australia Travel

Road trips in idaho near me.

What are some of the best road trips in Idaho I can take?

You know, Idaho gets a lot of flak. People refer to it as a “flyover” state, which implies that it’s boring -- and that notion couldn’t be further from the truth. There’s plenty to do – especially if you’re a lover of the open road like we are. Basically, if you can dream it, you can probably drive it. You can spend time traveling the Magruder Corridor, which is a beautiful, scenic drive you’ll never forget. You can drive the famous “road to nowhere” or make a whole thing out of visiting the most haunted places in the state. We also suggest making a whole trip out of Idaho’s spectacular waterfalls. If you’d like more inspiration for the best road trips in Idaho,  take a peek at this list .

Where are the must-visit places in Idaho?

There are several places that come to mind as definitive, iconic “must-do” activities. For instance, it’s imperative that you visit the incredible Shoshone Falls as soon as you can (if you haven’t already). Explore a dormant volcano at Craters of the Moon National Monument, where you’ll have an out-of-this-world fun experience. You won’t believe the surreal beauty on display at Sawtooth National Recreation Area, and Twin Falls is a wonderful place to come to on a hot summer day. Lake Coeur d'Alene, in northern Idaho, is also a must-see – and don’t forget to bring a camera! These locations are all ridiculously photogenic, and we’re sure you’ll fall in love with them as quickly as we did.

Where can I find unique attractions in Idaho?

Believe it or not, Idaho is a state with plenty of unique and otherwise oddball attractions to check out in your spare time. You can explore any number of the interesting (and a bit eerie) ghost towns all over the state, like Custer ghost town, near Stanley, and Burke ghost town, near Wallace. It wouldn’t be Idaho without a museum dedicated entirely to the potato, and Blackfoot, Idaho, has that taken care of. You can also sleep in a giant potato in Boise. In Arco, Idaho, you’ll find the world’s first-ever nuclear power plant. And did you know the center of the universe is a manhole in Wallace? Well, at least they think so...

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

The Alexander Garden

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

Next to the Kremlin is the Izmailovo open-air market, which dates back to the 17th century! The market is connected to the Izmailovo Kremlin by a wooden bridge. Pick up all your Russian souvenirs here, including traditional handicrafts, paintings, books, retro toys, and Soviet memorabilia!

You will find many hand-made and hand-painted options available at higher prices, as well as mass-produced souvenir options at lower prices!

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

  • Closed on Mondays
  • Filled with old arcade games that visitors get to try out!
  • The museum also includes a small cafe and burger shop

For something a little different, check out the Museum of Soviet Arcade Games! The museum features roughly 60 machines from the Soviet era, including video games, pinball machines, and collaborative hockey foosball! The machines inside the museum were produced in the USSR in the mid-1970s.

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

The best part is, most of the games are still playable! Purchase tickets and try the games out for yourself! The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .
