Detailed description

Breathtaking volcano tour in the south of lanzarote: jeep safari through lava landscape.

The guided jeep tour with open Landrover Defender 110 SW off-road vehicles starts in the village of Mácher. From there you start on dirt roads towards Asomada and enjoy wonderful views of the wine growing area La Geria and the tourist resorts Pueblo del Carmen and Arrecife on the coast. In good weather you can see as far as Fuerteventura. During the jeep safari in Lanzarote you will visit the famous Timanfaya National Park, where you will take a bus tour and learn interesting facts about the geological phenomena caused by the volcanoes that are still active today. You will also learn more about the approximately 180 different plant species that can be found in this area. Afterwards you can have lunch in the restaurant "El Diablo". In the special location many of the dishes are prepared on a volcanic grill over a 6 meter deep hole with rising lava heat (meal is not included in the price). It is located in the middle of the Fire Mountains (Montañas del Fuego), as the park is also called, and it was designed by César Manrique. Take advantage there of the magnificent view over the volcanic landscape for special holiday snapshots! You continue with the open jeeps to El Golfo. There the sea flows through the middle of a crater. Enjoy the mystical atmosphere and marvel at the black beach, which forms a fascinating contrast to the green lake "Laguna de los Clicos", which is connected to the sea underground. The varied Lanzarote jeep safari takes you on narrow roads designed by César Manrique to Los Hervidores, another highlight of the day tour. Here you will marvel at the unique coastal landscape formed since the last eruption of Timanfaya more than two centuries ago. The sudden cooling of the lava and the power of the waves have formed a breathtaking volcanic rocky landscape. Their charm will captivate you and you will take fantastic photos for your holiday album! You continue in the direction of Salinas de Janubio, a salt-producing area and can enjoy the wonderful view of the black Janubio beach. The discovery jeep safari in Lanzarote is slowly coming to an end, but also the bathing fun should not be neglected when the weather is fine. At Papagayo Beach near Playa Blanca you can refresh yourself in crystal clear water. A day full of exciting impressions couldn't end more beautifully!

The meeting point will usually be at Playa Del Carmen. With a maximum of 6 passengers per jeep, you will travel in a comfortable 4 x 4 vehicle, adept at travelling the Lanzarote route of the volcanoes. You will set off from there to Timanfaya National Park, the home of El Golfo Volcano. Your Guide/Driver will be English speaking and can answer your questions along the route.

First stop will be the Museum of the Farmers, where you will be given some information on the agriculture of the Island.

From the museum we will travel to La Geria and a vineyard that produces a quality wine popular throughout Spain and the Canaries. You may even be given an opportunity to sample the wine.

As you travel on through the amazing landscape of Timanfaya, you will have a refreshment stop before your visit to El Golfo volcano, with its black beaches and rocky landscape. Here you will see the green lagoon, formed by hydrovolcanism, that is where the sea passes through the volcano and the water becomes a vibrant green! An incredible sight to see, where the sea beats deafeningly against the rocks at Los Hevideros.

You will be taken from here to the Salinas de Janubio. These are the salt flats of Lanzarote, of immense importance to the local people as a source of preservation and canning of foods.

The last stop of the day will be Papagayo Beach, with its rocky surround, where you will stay for a relax and swim in the Atlantic Sea, before heading off back to Playa Del Carmen and the original group pick up point.

Is there anything I need to have with me?

Do wear swimsuits underneath comfortable outer clothing. You wouldn’t want to miss cooling off in the sea. Likewise bring sun cream, sun hat and sunglasses to optimise the wonderful views along the route.

Also bring some money with you for those optional extras and to purchase your lunch if you have not prepared packed refreshments. There will be stops along the way for this opportunity.

Even though there is likely to be a photographer/cameraman travelling with the convoy throughout the day, do bring your own camera or mobile phone for those special moments that only you can capture. Just imagine … a selfie with a volcano behind you. Magical!

Descripción del tour

La zona Norte es el territorio mejor preservado de Lanzarote, donde la vida rural, cultivos y pueblos mantienen una relación respetuosa con el media ambiente. 

Recorrido:  El recorrido le llevará a impresionantes miradores y lugares pintorescos en el norte de Lanzarote. Una excursión en vehículos 4x4 Landrover Defender de 7 plazas, por los municipios de Haría y Teguise para disfrutar de los paisajes que rodean el impresionante Volcán de la Corona.

El jeep safari  le lleva al norte de Lanzarote donde descubrirá pueblos encantadores en medio de un paisaje volcánico de una belleza indescriptible. 

Después de la recogida en su hotel, les llevamos a Guatiza para visitar una plantación de chumberas donde se cultiva la Cochinilla, un insecto del que se obtiene un colorante rojo utilizado en la industria textil, alimenticia y de cosmética. Continuaremos hacia el norte de la isla a través de los pueblos de Mala, Arrieta y Punta Mujeres, para finalmente llegará a los Jameos del Agua una de las obras mas importantes del famoso arquitecto paisajista César Manrique. El jeep safari por el norte de Lanzarote incluye la entrada a los Jameos del Agua pero si lo desea, puede sustituir esta visita por La Cueva de Los Verdes.

Se recorre la costa norte y se llega al Caletón Blanco, piscinas naturales de ensueño que cautiva por sus aguas cristalinas y su arena blanca. En verano puedes refrescarte en el mar turquesa. Muy cerca se encuentra Órzola donde tendrá tiempo libre para comer (almuerzo no incluido en el precio) o si lo prefiere para explorar el pequeño pueblo y su litoral.

La ruta continúa hacia el Risco de Famara, desde donde se disfruta de unas magníficas vistas de La Graciosa, Montaña Clara y Alegranza. Pasaremos  por los pueblos de Máguez y Haria hasta llegar al Mirador de los Helechos donde disfrutamos las vistas panorámicas sobre el pueblo de Haria y el Valle de las Mil Palmeras.

A menos de un kilómetro se encuentra otro punto panorámico, el Mirador de las Nieves desde el cual podremos ver todo El Jable, desierto de Lanzarote que ocupa el centro de la isla y la espectacular Playa de Famara. Continuamos hasta Teguise donde tendrá tiempo libre para dar un paseo en el casco antiguo antes de dirigirnos hacia Nazaret donde podrán visitar si lo desean La Casa-museo LagOmar (visita opcional, entrada no incluida en el precio).  

Para finalizar la excursión haremos una última parada para despedirnos en la Fundación de Cesar Manrique ((visita opcional, entrada no incluida en el precio).

Jeep Safari Northern Lanzarote

What to expect.

The route to the North offers an endless number of scenic views. Lanzarote is an island of contrasts and with a wide array of vegetation, especially in the municipalities of Haria and Teguise. 

The route starts in Guatiza where you can admire the plantations of Tuneras and will show you different cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food use of the cochineal, an insect that lives in them.

The tour continues until reaching the village of Mala where the oldest Cactus Garden of Lanzarote emerges and where without getting off the vehicles you can take photos bordering the plantation.

It continues northwards crossing the villages of Arrieta and Punta Mujeres . Then, Northwest towards Jameos del Agua and Cueva de Los Verdes . These are two of the best centres of interest to get to know the work of famous artist Cesar Manrique . You may decide which one to enter as one of the centres is included in the price.

The route continues along the coast towards the wonderful beach of Caletón Blanco with its crystal clear water and its white sand. Afterwards, you’ll head to Órzola where the white of the picturesque fishing village and the turquoise of its beaches meet. Here you may as well eat or buy something; not included in the price.

The tour continues towards the vicinity of Yé with its Mirador del Río: the work of Cesar Manrique constitutes a majestic balcony to the sea and is another characteristic piece of the insular North. “ The Chinijo Archipelago ” is a group of islets one nautical mile to the Northwest of Lanzarote conformed by the islands Of La Graciosa (the only one inhabited), Montaña Clara , Alegranza and the rocks of the East and West. It is a protected natural area with a very rich marine biodiversity. Afterwards, the tour takes you to Mirador de Guinate, where to get to know and understand the different layers of rocks that can be seen and contemplated from this panoramic view.

The route continues passing Mágues and Haria until arriving at the Mirador de Los Helechos where we will taste a variety of Canarian products and in turn contemplate Haria and its splendid Valley of the Thousand Palms . The dry and thirsty island is transformed into a garden, the landscape is fresher and greener from the different plantations that bathe Haria and the neighbouring towns of Máguez , Gallo and Guinate . Haria also stands out for its rich architectural heritage. At last, you’ll visit villages of the valley until arriving at Teguise where the excursion ends.

Lanzarote Jeep Safaris

With the Lanzarote jeep safari, discover the island’s most emblematic sites and unknown treasures

Nature, adventure, fun and spectacular places are the elements that make these tours so popular for getting to know the island.

Tour the island in 7-seater convertible jeeps with a professional driver-guide who’ll provide information about the most interesting places on the route. In general, unless it rains or is very cold, we’ll do the tour with the open-top jeep. That way, you’ll be able to better enjoy the landscape and good weather, and you will have a more intense experience.

The tours include a pick-up service at your accommodation if you’re staying in the island’s tourist centers: Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Arrecife.

We propose two different routes:

1.- Jeep safari to Timanfaya, Laguna Verde, La Geria, Los Hervideros and Papagayos Beach

On this tour, you’ll get to know the great tourist attraction of Lanzarote, the Timanfaya National Park. Even though we’ll arrive at a place known as the Islote de Hilario by jeep, once we get there we’ll get off to enjoy some amazing volcanic landscape, observe various experiments related to the still-latent volcanic activity, and take the park bus along the Volcano Highway.

Before leaving the park, we’ll be able to ride a camel, one of the most demanded activities which cannot be missed on our 4×4 route. This activity is optional, and you can hire it once we arrive at the starting point of the camel ride.

Once outside the park, we’ll discover equally interesting places, also caused by Lanzarote’s volcanic activity.

The Green Lagoon, also known as Charco de los Clicos, is one of the island’s natural symbols. In this colorful place you’ll find a small green lake that contrasts with the black volcanic sand that surrounds it, as well as the blue sea that lies a few meters away.

La Geria is the wine area, where the famous Lanzarote wines are made. Here, we’ll see the curious way in which the territory, composed of small volcanic stones, is used to cultivate vines.

In Los Hervideros you’ll see how the seawater, upon travelling through some large cavities, shoots up to the surface with such force that it reaches several meters in height.

The final point of the tour will be a visit to the famous Papagayo Beaches, made up of a series of coves, where we’ll have some time to walk around and, why not, take a bath.

2.- 4×4 tour to Teguise, La Geria, Famara Beach and La Santa Sport

On this jeep tour we’ll combine some popular places with more unknown corners.

On the visit to the town of Teguise we’ll get to know a charming town, one of the most beautiful towns in the Canary Islands which was also the island’s capital until 1852.

In La Geria, the wine-growing area of the famous Lanzarote denomination of origin wines, you’ll be surprised by the unique way in which the vines are cultivated on the island, where the benefits of the small volcanic stones of this area are used for growing the vines.

At Famara Beach, you’ll discover an immense beach, the largest on the island with more than 6 km in length and up to 100 meters in width. Near the beach, we’ll pass through an impressive tourist and sports complex known as La Santa Club.

And if the jeep tour is synonymous with adventure, what better way to end the route than by entering a volcano crater? This will undoubtedly be the ideal point to end a jeep route through the land of volcanoes.

Recommendations for the Lanzarote 4×4 tour.

• Bring warm clothing to protect yourself from the wind, a hat, clothing adapted to the weather forecast and closed-toed shoes.
• Tours aren’t suitable for pregnant women, people who need to move in a wheelchair and people with severe back problems.

Other than that you have First Minute tours who have an office opp the main taxi rank in town. The office is in a dip so not easy to see

He gets very very good reviews.

We haven’t used him yet but are planning to.

In the North part of the island, a few kilometres west of Playa de Lamba, you will find Arco de los Caletones. There are four natural stone arches of basalt; volcanic rocks that narrow near the top and erode due to the waves of the raging sea which collide against them forming a unique natural and visual spectacle.

Third Stop is the Paradise Playa de Las Conchas

This paradise beach is located in the north part of the island.The sand found here is white and coarse with a rural surrounding and looks out to the nearby deserted islands of Montaña Clara and Alegranza
