Online Safari Booking in Jaldapara National Park

Jaldapara car safari and elephant ride booking.

The history of Jaldapara National Park dates back to the early 1800s when it was known as Totapara, inhabited by the Mech and Toto tribes. Originally established as a game reserve in the 19th century to protect Bengal tigers, it was later declared a sanctuary in 1941. Finally, in 2014, it was upgraded to a national park. The park’s primary purpose was to safeguard the dwindling population of one-horned rhinoceros from hunting, poaching, and habitat loss. Despite administrative changes over the years, the conservation efforts have remained steadfast, ensuring the preservation of its rich biodiversity.

However, nature wings provided us with all directions on how to go about it, which made our trip a lot easier. From Jaldapara, we went for sightseeing to (insert place) arranged by Naturewings. Finally three friends family decided to explore forest in last winter and close to Kolkata, Dooars was the best forest destination. Based on inputs from one of our friend, who already visited Dooars suggested NatureWings as they are the best for the Dooars Tour Package . So we called NatureWings and they guided us with a very well planned 5 nights 6 Days program. Our Dooars Tour started from New Mal Jn (NMZ) Railway Station and as per the plan, our car was waiting just outside the station. We then proceed to Lataguri and in the afternoon we took the Lataguri Jungle Safari by Jeep, where we spotted Wild Bison, Wild Elephants and few peacocks. Next day, we took the whole day excursion to Jhalong, Bindu, Paren, Rocky Isalnd, Samsing and SultaniKhola. Next Day we went to Jayanti forest inside Buxa Tiger Reserve. Jayanti homestays are very nice just in front of Jayanti River. Next day morning we took the Chilapata Jeep Safari , the jeep entered into very deep jungle, where no sun light reaches and after completing Jeep Safari Completes, we proceed to the Jaladapara Forest, where NatureWings arranged a nice resort, Hallong Eco Resort. From the resort back gate, we entered into the forest for an afternoon walk. The best part of Dooars Tour was the Elephant Safari in Jaldapara and we took at 5 am slot. It was an amazing experience as Elephant entered into the Jeep jungle and we could see a most coveted Indian One Horn Rhino from stone throwing distance. A great thank you to NatureWIngs for arranging such our wonderful Dooars Trip and will certainly recommend my friends and families to NatureWings.

Jaldapara National Park: A Wildlife Safari Guide

Established as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1941, Jaldapara National Park is a spectacular destination on the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, by the banks of the Torsha River. It is based in the new Alipurduar district of West Bengal, India. The national park falls into the Dooars region, which is not only famous for its tea gardens but also boasts dense jungles home to many endangered animal species such as tigers, rhinoceros, elephants, etc.

Overview of Jaldapara National Park

The park has lush foliage that offers a great habitat for a variety of flora and fauna. It is a paradise for bird watchers. The national park is best known for its Asiatic One-Horned Rhinos. The number of single-horned rhinos is estimated at about 160 and is growing gradually.

Jaldapara National

There are scheduled jeeps, as well as elephant safaris. The elephant safaris are organized across the beautiful grasslands early in the morning and are the safest and most popular way to experience the national park ‘s wildlife. The jeep safaris are scheduled both during the evenings and at weekends. In recent years, there has been a rise in the number of watchtowers where jeep safaris have taken place owing to a rise in visitor footfall. The only requirement of jeep safaris is that visitors have to ride in licensed jeeps in the forest department and that each jeep needs to be accompanied by a driver.

History of Jaldapara National Park

The place was historically a joint village of Toto and Mech (Bodo) groups in the 1800s. At this time the location was known as ‘Totapara.’ Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary was founded in 1941 to protect the large range of flora and fauna, particularly the one-horned Indian Rhinoceros, which were feared to be on the verge of extinction.

Flora and Fauna at Jaldapara National Park

jaldapara elephant safari online booking

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide range of wildlife and beautiful flora that will captivate you in every possible way. The majority of the woodland of this national park is savannah and is covered with tall elephant grass.

The Asiatic one-horned rhinoceros is the sanctuary’s major attraction. Jaldapara National Park, and Kaziranga National Park in Assam, have India’s highest number of one-horned rhinos.

Leopard, elephant, sambhar deer, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild pig, and bison are among the other animals seen here.

Jaldapara is a haven for avian enthusiasts. It is one of the few locations in India where you can see the Bengal florican, also known as the Bengal Bustard. Along with the pied hornbill, peafowl, partridge, and jungle fowl, other birds that can be found in this area include the crested eagle, Pallas’s fishing eagle, and Shikra.

In addition, eight species of freshwater turtles, a python, a monitor lizard, a Krate, a cobra, and a gecko have taken shelter here.

Therefore this place will offer sights of rich wildlife engaged in different activities. You can have exciting views of the rhinos remaining submerged in the small lakes or elephants crossing rivers and drinking water in the streams.

The river Torsha runs through this rainforest sanctuary, which is also another beautiful place to see in Jaldapara. The Malangi River also runs from east to west.

Best time to visit Jaldapara National Park

The period following the monsoon, from October to January, is the ideal time to visit Jaldapara National park.

During winter, the temperature is pleasant and ideal for trips to the jungle, but the trees lose their leaves in winter, and the grasslands become sparser. However, you can surely spot wildlife during this time.

The forest appears lush and peaceful during the monsoon, as the jungle is denser than ever, and the trees and meadows have grown during the monsoon with new leaves. Therefore, spotting animals during this time may be difficult until they come out in the open, as they often remain hidden in the foliage. Additionally, there may be sporadic rains.

The park remains closed from June 15 – September 15 since it is the breeding season for animals.

You can also visit this place during summer, but the weather may be uncomfortable.

So try to plan your trips in winter and avoid visiting in summer and monsoons.
