Grants Awarded at May Meeting

On May 10, representatives from 28 Wimberley-area non-profit organizations attended our last meeting of the fiscal year. Each May we designate the money we have raised through our myriad events to area non-profits as well as to qualifying students from the area seeking higher education. This year we awarded a total of $67,000. Of that more than $40,000 went to grants and nearly $27,000 to scholarships for eight graduating high school students.

The event was complete with Prosecco, movie candy and popcorn.

Please consider making a charitable donation.

As a charitable organization, we depend on the support of our Wimberley area community.  Your support is attained through attendance of events such as Home Tour and Spring Event, and also through direct monetary donations.

Our events have been staples here for decades. The most significant impact of our fundraising is on the students who depend on our scholarships and the nonprofits who depend on our donations.

In May 2023, we awarded $22,000 in scholarships and $53,000 in community donations. ( Click here to see the complete list of beneficiaries.) Our goal is to increase those numbers for distribution to our recipients next year.

We are asking you to help us fulfill our commitment to the community. And remember, every dollar you donate is a tax deductible donation.

Thank you for your support.

Meeting Dates

Fri day, april 5, wimberley united methodist, church fellow ship hall, friday, may 10, church fellow ship hal l, enjoy the summer, meetings will resume, in september., become a member today, help us give back to the wimberley valley..

The Year In Review 2022-2023

We had another great year and ended with a wonderful fundraising commitment by board member and members new and old! We continued to grow our membership with 148 members at the end of the year. The membership came together, volunteered and attended meetings and many events.

We met at the Messina Inn and the First Baptist Church. We've enjoyed having 29 new ladies join our organization. They are joining the board and chairing several yearly events. We're excited to see them more often as they grow into their new roles in the upcoming year.

We continued with our theme of  CONNECT, HAVE FUN, DO GOOD. Our speakers have been a very interesting group including Wimberley artist Maxine Price, the Texas Wine and Grape Growers, City Council members Rebecca Minnick and Teresa Shell sharing with us Wimberley's future plans for the community. April Samson, Executive Director of the  Bamberger Ranch, inspired us with the legacy of the Preserve, an ecological restoration and conservation project in Dripping Springs. And acclaimed photographer Rodney Burseil brought his photos and the stories behind them. We continued to support the Hays Caldwell Women's Center with cash donations and undergarments. The Center is always so appreciative of our generosity.

Everyone had a great time at the Murder Mystery Dinner. High School Students volunteered to do all of the acting and costumes. We're not sure who had more fun! Breakfast with Santa followed and was well attended by almost 250 children and parents.  Home Tour just keeps getting bigger and better and this year we even had a yacht to bid on! The Preview party was held at a home overlooking the Blanco River and all of the attendees had a great evening.

Spring Event had nearly 50 fun things to do from February to May. We had lunches, brunches, Tablescapes, Moonlight Serenade Dance, tours, cooking classes,  pickle ball, and acting lessons. The Golf Tournament had a good turnout in spite of some rain.

The Board thanks everyone, including the chairs, volunteers and participants, who continue to help and give back so that we were able to assist eight high school seniors with scholarships and grants for 26 non-profits. We were able to award $75,000 in total this year. Stephanie Miller ,  Historian

The Civic Club Legend

In the spring of 1979, a group of women in the area recognized the need to reach out and meet the newcomers to our rapidly growing community. The Wimberley Community Civic Club was organized. The purpose of the Civic Club is "to nurture a strong community spirit through service and financial support while fostering lasting friendships among the members."

Membership is open to all Wimberley Valley area residents. We urge all newcomers to join or let us know you are here, come to a meeting, and then decide if you would like to join our group to help make Wimberley a better place to live.

DIY wedding ideas

A texas florist's top tips for using vessels as vases in diy floral designs.

Along with weddings come wedding events - showers, bridal teas , bridesmaids' luncheons - and the desire to decorate beautifully without breaking the bank. (After all, there's plenty of money being spent on the wedding itself, for everyone involved.)

One good way to cut costs: DIY floral designs. Yes, really. It's as easy as looking around for beautiful vessels that you can turn into vases. Then just let your creativity run wild.

I gathered together four of the top trending decor items of the season, along with a floral designer, to put them to use as vases when they were not, well, being used. At the end of the day, a vessel is a vessel. For me, if it can hold water, it can hold flowers.

Design “fails” tend to pop up just as much as successful ones do, and I’ve noticed this a lot with these four trendiest items, all antique: oversized glass water jugs , julep cups (specifically Wedgewood), champagne buckets , and flower frogs .

Julep cups add a little color just about anywhere.

Not wanting to banish these trending items to a cupboard, I endured two ill-fated trips to my grocer’s floral department before finally reaching out to my favorite florist, Marija Babic of La Fête in Houston, to ask, “What will actually work with these things?” Enthusiastically gathering these items together, I rushed to Babic for assistance.

Oversized glass water jug: For an oversized water jug, she selects bright yellow Blooming Forsythia, which brings a splash of vibrant color to any space. “This setup perfectly captures the essence of spring's lively renewal,” Babic says. “The contrast between the delicate, golden flowers and the simple elegance of the glass jug creates a stunning centerpiece that's both fresh and timelessly beautiful.”

Flower frogs: While beautiful, flower frogs can be problematic. The size constraints make choosing flowers more of a chore than a joy. No one wants to play roulette with stem sizes — but what is always guaranteed to fit the job?

“I picked pink Scabiosa and white Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist) to arrange in a simple crystal vase that holds just eight stems. These charming flowers, symbolizing love and delicate beauty, perfectly complement the vase, adding a touch of whimsy without stealing the spotlight from its artistic elegance,” Babic notes.

An all-too-often-made mistake is to always go with bloomed flowers. Greenery, seed pods and more delicate flowers are oftentimes overlooked, but clearly make a statement nonetheless.

Champagne bucket: “I chose to arrange Orange Buddleia Globosa, Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist), and Solomio Dianthus in a vintage silver champagne bucket to capture a whimsical French country vibe. These flowers bring a burst of vibrant color, delicate beauty, and timeless charm,” she says.

“While creating this arrangement, I imagined myself prepping for an intimate French countryside dinner, ready to host my dearest family and friends. It's like taking a joyful stroll through a blooming meadow, gathering flowers to create a centerpiece that's both casual and sophisticated that lets your creative imagination run wild.”

Julep cup: Being in Texas and not Kentucky, locals have little call for the use of a delicate julep cup. The beauty of these small treasures is that they can be very universal: nightstands, powder baths, anywhere a delicate arrangement will be appreciated, yet unintrusive.

“I chose pink Chrysanthemums, symbolizing joy and cheerfulness, and white Solomio Dianthus, representing pure love and grace, to place in a small Wedgwood cup,” the florist says. “These flowers add a lovely burst of color and elegance, making it easy to beautify any space.”

Who knows? Maybe arranging DIY bridal florals will lead to new passions and opportunities, as it did for Babic.

Babic is an oil and gas professional by trade. She says it was a "burning passion to create something extraordinary and turn dreams into reality with flowers" that led her to establish her own business, whose name, "La Fête," means "to celebrate" in French.

"It's not just about the flowers or the arrangements; it's about crafting delicate masterpieces that capture the heart of your most cherished moments," she says.

Since 1969, the annual Heritage Hill Weekend Tour of Homes welcomes you to our historic Heritage Hill neighborhood, one of the country’s largest urban historic districts recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. More than 1,300 homes stand within the boundaries of Heritage Hill and date from 1843. Nearly every style of American architecture, from Greek Revival to Prairie, is represented in the district. At the turn of the century, this was the city’s most prestigious residential area. Today the neighborhood is an array of lifestyles and passions. Professionals, artisans, students, homeowners and renters share this great place we call home.

Each year, a different line-up of 6-7 private homes and 1-2 historic buildings are open; each with a unique story. During Tour, guides stationed at each house will share information and highlight special features. An array of architecture, decorating styles and urban gardens await you.

Home Tour is the largest fundraiser of the Heritage Hill Association.  It is also the biggest promotional effort of our neighborhood and a showcase for the benefits of historic preservation. Over 100 volunteers contribute to make the weekend a success. All proceeds go right back into programs for the Heritage Hill neighborhood.

Heritage Hill was named by  This Old House  as one of the “Best Old House Neighborhoods” in the country.

Civic Club’s Hill Country Home Tour

The 35th Annual Hill Country Home Tour kicks off with a high-profile event, Thursday Nov. 3, at the home of Jerry and Tricia Linklater Fields. Organized by the Wimberley Community Civic Club, the Kick-Off Party will be held at the Field’s residence overlooking the Blanco River from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. The cocktail fundraiser features musical performers, Pear Duo, the dynamic and entertaining husband and wife team of Julie Ragins and Curtis Brengle. Guests may savor hors’ d’oeuvres from RR12 Supper Club of Wimberley and The Videre, as well as an open bar while they tour the Fields’ home and peruse the online auction items.

The crown of the auction is a five-day yacht excursion for eight in Mexico. The yacht is an 86 ft. Hatteras Sports Fisherman vessel currently berthed between Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. It has four state rooms, which sleep up to eight, four bathrooms with showers, an expansive solon and galley area, as well as a large wheelhouse at the top level. A large cockpit area in the aft section for fishing is equipped with all necessary fishing tackle. Included in the package is a three-to-four-member crew who perform all essential tasks. The auction item includes two coach class tickets to and from a Texas airport, five days and nights on board, all food and drinks, television and Wi-Fi while the vessel is docked, and transportation from the airport to the yacht. Christened the Londolozi, the yacht is available for Thanksgiving week in Cabo and any other mutually agreed-upon time. The opening bid starts at $25,000 and bidders can vie online for the top bid from Nov. 3 to Nov. 15 at WimberleyCCC.org. Other items in the auction include vacation stays, jewelry, art, classes and crafts.

Pear Duo spent nearly 30 years in Los Angeles touring, recording, and performing with a long list of household names in the music industry. Their music is a fusion of jazz and pop, with threads of soul, Americana, rock-n-roll, and blues. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the musicians and mingle with them throughout the event.

The Hill Country Home Tour itself commences Friday Nov. 11 and runs through Saturday Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. It features four unique homes plus the historic Winters-Wimberley house. Purchase tickets online at WimberleyCCC. org. Pick up for tickets, admission brochure, and wristbands are at the Wimberley Visitor Center on Nov. 4, 5, and Nov. 9 through 12.

Tickets for the Nov. 3 kick-off party are $150 and include a $25 Home Tour ticket. Tickets for the kick-off are limited to 125 guests and are available now at WimberleyCCC. org.
