We have been diving since the early 90’s, but I have not been in the water for a year due to a badly broken arm. Art and Noah made sure I had a great day in spite of my apprehension. We saw many turtles (honu kai!), eels, nudibranchs, and other sea creatures. These folks are great with experienced divers, but I know they would be good with new divers as well.

Scuba diving Hawaii’s reefs is amazing, close to 30% of our fish are endemic, found nowhere else on Earth. Hawaii Eco Divers offers dive boat tours to shipwrecks and coral reefs on the South and West shores of Oahu. Boat dive tours are for both advanced and less experienced divers. Advanced divers can dive the infamous Sea Tiger Wreck, considered the largest and deepest shipwreck of Hawaii, and one of several well known wrecks. Ko olina Private Charters

Every private tour is catered and customized for you! Book a private Ko olina tour and go sightseeing on our remote shores of West Oahu.

Oahu Dolphin Divers operates the only dive boat on the west side of the island. It departs from Waianae Small Boat Harbor on the island of Oahu. During the whale-watching season, which peaks from January to March, we also offer whale-watching excursions.

Oahu Dolphin Divers’ vessel, the South Seas II, is a 38’ Delta located in Waianae Small Boat Harbor. There is no physical office at the harbor. Guests will meet the boat in the harbor (parking is free) at the commercial loading dock.  To find that, you face the ocean and go to the far left side of the harbor.  For private tours of indeterminate start time, we may meet you at our slip on pier C.

Oahu Dolphin Divers is the primary dive boat of Honolulu Scuba Company located in Kaka’ako.  For the dive staff, the day begins and ends there, and it is possible to get a ride out to the dive boat by meeting the staff at the shop.  If you are staying in a Ko Olina Hotel (Ko Olina Marriot, Disney Aulani, or Four Seasons), we can also pick you up on the way to the boat.

The west side is the best side for scuba diving on Oahu. Because of the island’s trade wind weather coming out of the northeast, the west side of the island has the most consistent and calm oceans on the islands and the very best weather for ocean tours. But possibly more importantly, if you want to dive in lava tubes – who doesn’t? – then we are your best (and only) choice. There are three good wreck dives as well, and we dive with green sea turtles every day.

If you are staying in Ko Olina, it doesn’t make sense to fight traffic into town to go diving, snorkeling, or whale watching.  And if you are in Waikiki, it is worth the one-hour drive out to explore this beautiful coastline. From Waikiki, you are coming the opposite way of rush hour both morning and afternoon charters.

Scuba diving in Oahu is suitable for both beginners and experts. However, due to the reefs, scuba diving for beginners is part of a different tour than for experienced and certified divers.

The Sea Tiger dive site is suitable for certified divers. The Sea Tiger is a vessel that was formerly used to trade and now rests at about 90 feet underwater. Here, you will find lots of rich fascinating marine life that have made the shipwreck home.

This diving wreck is one of the deepest recreational diving wrecks in Oahu. To thoroughly enjoy the experience, be ready to spend about half of your day underwater exploring marine life. 

The island of Oahu is home to some of the most diverse sea life in the US and even in the world. A dive into the clear waters on the island is as adventurous as it is educating.

This special tour for certified divers can also be done in groups. Be amazed by the bounty of sharks, Hawaiian endemic fish, eels, and stingrays while exploring this magnificent place.

3. Oahu: Shallow Reef Scuba Dive for Certified Divers

Scuba diving here gives certified divers the pleasure of experiencing two reef dives with a lot of tropical marine life to make them even more interesting.

Bear in mind that even though this dive is meant for certified and experienced divers, you will always be guided by an instructor. All the diving equipment and gear needed will be made available to you.

In this dive, besides seeing sharks, dolphins, starfish, and Hawaiian endemic fish, you get to visit Turtle Canyons. This is a reef site that was formed due to volcanic activity on the island several thousand years ago.

You get to see rock-encrusted coral formations that protrude out from many of the canyons.

Another extraordinary treat is catching a glimpse of Hawaiian green sea turtles, which are quite rare to see. They come out from their dwelling sites to the reef site to clean their shells.

4. Beginner Scuba Diving with Turtles in Honolulu

We had the most amazing time and would highly recommend going on the tour with Torpedo! The crew was amazing (including the dog) and extremely knowledgeable. We saw a ton of manta rays and some dolphins on the trip there. I would recommend a wet suit to be comfortable the whole time. If your questioning it, just do it. You will not regret it.

We had an awesome time!! Our dive master Mike was very knowledgeable and caring, he made sure we were in his sight at all times, and gears are working properly. Great crew cap too, friendly and fun, especially the boat dog🐶 super cute. Highly recommended tour.

All I want to do is go on more dives here! I saw so many amazing fish, octopus and more. The day dives were fantastic with sharks and lava tubes and the Manta dive was mind blowing! Our dive guide gave us a thorough dive briefing and went out of his way to make sure we had a good time. Besides all the manta rays we saw he even took extra time to show us eels hunting trevallies. He checked my air gauge constantly and had the whole group do a long safety stop. I felt completely safe on a wonderful night dive the whole time. The whole crew had positive energy and treated everyone on board like family. Highly recommend this company and especially the Manta night dive!

Torpedo Tours took us out for an unforgettable snorkel/fishing cruise along the Kailua-Kona coast. We snorkeled with Captain Rachel, who has a marine science background. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the geology of the island and the various species of reef fish we saw, including a white tip reef shark, eels, and bottle nose dolphins. Though we didn’t catch any fish that day, we were so fortunate to happen upon a group of about 75 hammerhead shark that were schooling in their yearly mating ritual, a very rare event to witness. We all jumped in the water see these gentle giants up close and Captain Taylor expertly moved the boat to keep the snorkelers in perfect position with the sharks. Absolute highlight of our trip too the big island.

Great experience with Mark and Mike! Very knowledgeable and funny guys who teach you everything about manta’s, with a laugh or two! We saw a lot of beautiful animals, mostly manta’s but also a seal!

The SNUBA system works on the principle of surface supplied air from a standard SCUBA tank inside the SNUBA raft. There is a 20' long super strong air line hose from the tank that supplies the air to the diver and also enables the diver to effortlessly pull the SNUBA raft along on the surface above them. The air line hose connects into a harness that is buckled around the diver. This harness has a SCUBA (air on demand) regulator for breathing. Just like in snorkeling the SNUBA diver also has fins on their feet for propulsion and a mask on their head for viewing the underwater world. The SNUBA diver also uses a weight belt around their waist filled with soft style diving weights to counter the body's natural positive buoyancy.

What a fantastic experience! We took our 6 kids ages 8-19 and everyone loved this! The guides were friendly and helpful, the boat was clean and comfortable and the experience was unforgettable!

Crew was very informative and easy to understand. Felt safe the entire time and the boat provided plenty of shade. They did not disappoint on the number and size of sharks swimming all around the boat and the cage. Very enjoyable.

My son and I went in the water and the sharks were "up close and personal" for our entire time in the cage. It was fantastic! We had a great time and really enjoyed the excursion. The crew was great and provided a safe, educational experience.

I had a wonderful experience with the sharks! The North Shore Shark Team was friendly and patient enough, with expert narration. The instructors were exceptionally good!! A big thumbs up!! I recommend everyone to visit!

12 Video Games Coming This Fall

The calendar brings a Legend of Zelda game with Zelda in charge, an Assassin’s Creed set in Japan and new role-playing games.

The video game industry will generate headlines galore next year if Grand Theft Auto VI is released as planned, but there is enough to keep fans busy as 2024 winds down.

Venerated franchises are granting fan wishes — Assassin’s Creed is heading to Japan, and The Legend of Zelda is focusing on the series’ namesake — and several notable developers are debuting projects. It will be tough, though, for these upcoming titles to compete with Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth , Hades II , Animal Well and others for game of the year recognition. (Some games will be available before their official launch dates because of early-access programs.)

UFO 50 Fans of the original Nintendo will rejoice, and reviewers with a deadline will squirm. This ambitious project, whose development team includes the creator of the indie hit Spelunky, presents 50 games from a fictional company in the 1980s. (Sept. 18; PC)

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: ECHOES OF WISDOM In a big twist, Princess Zelda is a playable protagonist in the series that bears her name. To rescue Link, she will rely on a magic rod that can create copies — “echoes” — of beds, rocks, enemies and more. (Sept. 26; Switch)

SILENT HILL 2 Expectations are high for a remake of this acclaimed 2001 psychological horror game, which will feature revamped combat and over-the-shoulder camerawork. The character James must confront monsters — yes, Pyramid Head is back — while investigating a letter from his dead wife. (Oct. 8; PC, PS5)

METAPHOR: REFANTAZIO The king has been assassinated in this medieval fantasy role-playing game by the team behind Persona 3, 4 and 5. With the help of a fairy companion, you’ll build a party to take down a royal tournament. (Oct. 11; PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 6 Players will gain the ability to sprint and dive in any direction in this edition of the first-person shooter franchise. Set at the end of the Cold War, it will be the first new Call of Duty on Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription service. (Oct. 25; PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S)

LIFE IS STRANGE: DOUBLE EXPOSURE Max Caulfield could rewind time in the franchise’s original 2015 game. Now she can jump between parallel timelines, hoping to prevent her friend’s death, in this supernatural murder mystery. (Oct. 29; PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)

DRAGON AGE: THE VEILGUARD BioWare, which created the role-playing games Baldur’s Gate and Mass Effect, is back with its first Dragon Age title in a decade. Players can recruit seven pansexual companions, including a human necromancer and an elf with a young griffon. (Oct. 31; PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)

MARIO AND LUIGI: BROTHERSHIP After recent remakes of Super Mario R.P.G. (1996) and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2004), fans of Nintendo’s role-playing games are getting something entirely new. The fraternal plumbers will explore an island ship and engage in turn-based combat. (Nov. 7; Switch)

SLITTERHEAD From the creator of Silent Hill, this horror adventure game will require players to make challenging sacrifices. The disembodied protagonist takes over passers-by to fight insectoid Slitterheads that are disguised as humans. (Nov. 8; PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)

ASSASSIN’S CREED SHADOWS This historical action-adventure franchise ventures to Japan for the first time, complete with katanas, shurikens and kunai. Players will swap control of two protagonists: Naoe, a female shinobi who prioritizes stealth, and Yasuke, an African samurai with armor. (Nov. 15; PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: HEART OF CHORNOBYL Surviving the mysterious Zone — a postapocalyptic region based on ideas from the sci-fi novel “Roadside Picnic” — in this first-person shooter franchise requires outlasting both mutants and anomalies. (Nov. 20; PC, Xbox Series X|S)

INDIANA JONES AND THE GREAT CIRCLE The protagonist of this single-player adventure, by the studio behind recent Wolfenstein games, looks like Harrison Ford but is voiced by the actor Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite). (Dec. 9; PC, Xbox Series X|S)
