Genting Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Part 2: Balcony Stateroom

Please share this article if you think it's awesome!

  • Facebook 74

If you’re going to spend 3 nights in the middle of the sea, a balcony definitely makes the experience more enjoyable. That’s the reason we chose Dream Cruise over Royal Caribbean when choosing which cruise to take to go to nowhere. Furthermore, DC’s balcony stateroom is cheaper (during promotion) than interior windowless room in RC!

In the unlikely-but-possible event that there is a corona positive person in the ship and we had to remain in our room for more than 12 hours, I wouldn’t want to be in an interior windowless room. Since all the rooms in DC comes with balcony (they don’t sell interior rooms during corona), it makes perfect sense for us to choose DC over RC.

In this article, I’ll share what I think about Balcony Stateroom in the World Dream ship.

Genting Dream Cruise to Nowhere (2021) Series Part 1: Reservation, ART Test, Boarding Part 2: Balcony Stateroom Part 3: All Inclusive Dining Part 4: Activities and Shows Part 5: Tips for FOMO Travelers

PS: During my visit in 2021, the ship was called World Dream . However, they changed name to Resort World Cruise in 2022. Just want you to know that they’re interchangeable =)

Option to Upgrade

About a week after we made reservation, we received email from DC saying that we could bid for upgrade to Palace Suite. The bid will close 7 days before sailing and winners will be notified of the outcome 3 days before sailing.

As budget travelers, we were trying to keep our expenses as low as possible, hence we skipped the bidding exercise.

Issue with Room Door

On the first day, after the long process of ART test, immigration, check-in and boarding, we finally reached our cabin at around 3.15pm. Our plan was to quickly put our things in the cabin and went for late lunch. However, we had difficulties opening the door!

We scanned our cards maybe 20x but it wouldn’t open. Frustrated, we asked the housekeeper, and she called the main housekeeper to open the door for us. The main housekeeper said that our cards have issue and recommended we go to Reception to change the card.

We then went to eat lunch at Lido because the Dream Dining Room (DDR) is already closed at 3.30pm while Lido will be closing at 4pm. It was a very rush first day. Fortunately we had eaten an early lunch around 11am before going to the cruise.

After lunch, we went to Reception and had our cards re-programmed. We asked the Reception girl to come with us to the room, in case the newly-programmed cards still don’t work. Well, the cards still didn’t work. The Reception girl had to ask Security team to come and re-program the lock. We couldn’t go anywhere when they fixed the door (it took them about 30 mins to fix it). It was quite a waste of our time, but at least it got fixed and we could now start our holiday! And we definitely won’t let this incident affect our mood for the entire trip.

Now that the stressful stuffs are dealt with, now let’s focus on the brighter side of the trip. This is my first time cruising with a balcony room (in my previous cruise trip , I stayed in an interior room), and I would say that I love love having a balcony. It’s the perfect place to look into the horizon and feeling the peace, in the comfort of our own place (without having to wear a mask).

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Balcony

Unlike apartment balcony, the cruise balcony doesn’t provide much privacy. It’s very easy to overhear the conversation of neighbors (left, right, above and below). One possible cause is that the balcony partition between each cabin is a removable type, and there are gaps around the partition that enables one to peek into his neighbor’s balcony if one wants to.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Balcony partition gap

Another thing I didn’t quite like about the balcony is that it is also a place that smokers go for a puff. Some time, I could smell a hint of smoke, but it was not persistent (thank God). Despite the partition with gap issue and smoke issue, I’d still choose a balcony over interior room any time.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Balcony

The size of balcony stateroom is 20sqm. It comes with a bathroom, a queen-sized bed (which feels like 2 single beds placed side by side, because the middle part is a bit hard), a sofa bed, and a narrow desk.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Bedroom

We have no complaint about the bed as we have very comfortable sleep every night throughout the entire trip. There are 4 pillows on the bed, 2 soft and 2 hard. There is also an extra pillow in the wardrobe. The blanket are quite comfortable, not too thick and not too thin. Beside the bed, there are power sockets for you to charge and play with your phone while lying down.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Bedroom

The desk comes with a small chair, 2 power sockets and a big mirror. The majority of the desk is occupied by telephone, minibar and menu book. Rubbish bin and hair dryer is just below the desk.

The sofa bed is prone to dust accumulation. The good thing is, our housekeeper diligently vacuum it everyday.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Bedroom

On our first day, there were 2 free disposable face masks on the desk. However, they were not replenished on Day 2, 3 and 4. So, do remember to bring your own extra face masks!

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Bedroom

Beside the bed, there is a wardrobe, inside of which you can find safe, extra pillow, bath robes, slippers as well as cloth hangers. I forgot to take photo of it as I was too distracted by the balcony.

There are two bottles of mineral water on the desk. Housekeeper replenishes 2 bottles everyday for free. If you need more mineral water than what’s given, you need to pay $2 per bottle. If you don’t want to pay, the other alternatives are tap water from the bathroom (DC claims it’s safe to drink) or tap water from dining places.

There are 2 packs of Nescafe instant coffee as well as tea, sugar and creamer. No Nespresso coffee machine unless you’re staying in Palace Suite and above. There’s also a fridge with nothing in it.

One thing to note about about Dream Cruise is that Dream Cruise doesn’t allow customers to bring their own alcohol on board, unlike Royal Caribbean. You can, however, buy drink from the bar/restaurant and bring it to the room.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Minibar

To be honest, I like the bathroom. The finishes are clean and elegant. Even thought it’s compact, there is enough room to move around.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Bathroom

The shower comes with adjustable shower head, a built-in soap dispenser and a small 2-tier rack to put your shower stuffs.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Bathroom Shower

The bathroom amenities that they provide are toothbrush & toothpaste, soap in a dispenser, shampoo, body lotion. I forgot to bring my comb. Thankfully, it is possible to request for comb and shaving kits from housekeeping, just be prepared to wait for 15 to 30 mins.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Balcony Stateroom – Bathroom Amenities

The trash bin is located under the sink. I find it quite troublesome to access because when I want to throw rubbish, most of the time my hands are full and probably dirty, but I still have to manually open the cabinet door to access the bin. It’ll be nice if they install a push-to-open system; it’ll be more hygienic this way too.

The housekeeper is not stingy at all when replenishing the amenities. We get new amenities every day (shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush).

Housekeeping

We had only pleasant experience with our housekeeper, Santo. He always cleaned our room thoroughly and was always friendly when we crossed path.

Just one minor issue though, he might have thrown away all of our Cruise Daily (the newspaper that has information about cruise facilities and activities), thinking that we don’t need them anymore since we put them on the desk. It’s okay, I’ll just have to dig deeper into my rusty brain when I want to write future article about activities.

Balcony Stateroom in Dream Cruise is not a perfect room but it’s a good value for money. It is still quite a new ship so everything in the room is still in good shape.

Should you book a Balcony Stateroom? Well if you want to keep accommodation expenses as low as possible and spend your moolah on other things that matter more, then this room would be the best choice. If you have the budget to go for more expensive room, by all means, treat yourself to Balcony Deluxe Stateroom or Palace Suite.

For me, I have no regret at all choosing Balcony Stateroom. One day, when I can afford to spend more, I may want to try their Palace Suite. But, until then, Balcony Stateroom is good.

Genting Dream Deluxe Balcony Stateroom

  • Veidehi Gite

  • Cruise Liners

I was over the moon when I finally had the opportunity to experience sailing in Asia! Luxury cruising in the region has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, and it’s no wonder – those with money to spare, as well as corporate workers, newlyweds, and whole families, are all keen to take a maritime vacation on board one of the most opulent cruise ships around. Now that’s what I call progress! Cruising on the Genting Dream was an unforgettable journey that allowed me to gain insight into the true beauty of Asia.

Genting Dream Main Pool Deck

This Dream Cruise line venture offered me more than just a glimpse of the region – I was able to fully immerse myself in the sights, smells, sounds, and even the tastes of the sea! On Saturday morning, I made my way to Singapore for a weekend staycation on a cruise that was departing from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre (MBCC) at 4 pm. After purchasing my ticket and a neck cardholder, as well as passing through a security check (just to be safe!), I arrived at the bustling waiting area. After all, the MBCC is the city’s cruise arrival and disembarkation hub! It’s no surprise that the ground-floor foyer is crowded with counters catering to their respective clients. What an exciting adventure!

Keep your passport ready for swift service! Decked out in different coloured ribbons, the neck cardholders indicate the various room and stateroom types. As I awaited my turn, I beheld an impressive sight – a glass wall showcasing luxury yachts parked in the three-sided open waiting area. It was then that I caught my first glimpse of the stunning Genting Dream’s welded structure!

Inside Genting Dream Deluxe Balcony Stateroom

At long last, after an extended wait and a few bureaucratic protocols, I had finally stepped onto this gargantuan celebrity cruise ship. I made my way to the plush-carpeted promenade, where a diminutive bridge marked the beginning of my luxurious seafaring journey. What’s truly remarkable is that the floor carpet serves as a secret roadmap, guiding you through the main passageways. If you ever find yourself lost, just follow the trail of flowers! After picking up my key from the central entrance, I ventured up to the 10th level to explore the assigned room.

Genting Dream Balcony Stateroom

Fortunately, the 1011 stateroom was just a few steps away from the elevator, ensuring that no journey would be too long. On Genting Dream, you can never quite predict what surprise awaits you around the corner. And speaking of surprises, my Deluxe Balcony stateroom on the tenth level offered some of the most amazing sea views I have ever seen!

As I stepped into this cabin, I was met with a breathtaking archipelago that seemed to stretch out before me through the simple floor-to-ceiling French doors. Perfect for solo travellers, couples, or families with a toddler or even two small children, this not-so-spacious cabin is sure to impress. But the real show-stopper? The sunset awaits you upon reaching your room!

Genting Dream Deluxe Balcony Stateroom Roomkey

My cabin aboard the Genting Dream was perched in the sparkling Singapore Strait, with grand views of Marina Bay Sands, the port, and a colourful parade of cargo and passenger ships. A perfect setting to ponder my journey as the ship prepared to set sail! This stateroom is a dream come true!

It’s complete with an unbelievably soft queen-size bed, cosy couch, mini work desk, LCD TV, mini-fridge, phone, tea-coffee facilities, and an en-suite-connected lavatory with complimentary amenities. Plus, there’s a tiny private terrace for you to enjoy! But the best part? Charging stations are conveniently located on both sides of the bed. Now that’s what we call luxury!

Umi Uma Filipino Chef

The fundamental allure of this stateroom is enough to make your stay and unravel the secrets that lie within. In the washroom, you’ll find three signs: one to light up your interior, and the other two telling you which switch is the Make-up Room, and which is the ‘Do Not Disturb’! When you need a little extra help, the makeup room button is your assistant.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of experiencing the enchanting sea breeze and Tuscan Soul products aboard the Genting Dream. It’s tempting just to stay in the cosy cabin, but there are plenty of outside activities to keep you entertained. For a unique dining experience, I enjoyed the sizzling Umi Uma Teppanyaki , a taste of authentic Japanese cuisine at Silk Road, and some Australian Surf N Turf from Bistro by Mark Best – delectable!

Genting Dream Entertainment

As we arrived at our destination, a plethora of fun and entertaining activities were available to us – a big swimming pool, a casino, zip-lining in the ocean, rock climbing, and a theatre with China’s Got Talent auditions followed by a world-famous theatrical performance on the second night! Poolside was the highlight of the trip – adults and children alike were blissfully enjoying the sun and the waves, making it the most popular spot of the journey!

I couldn’t resist spending at least two hours on the balcony every evening, marvelling at the twinkling stars that blanketed the night sky. It was the perfect way to end the day, snuggling up for a restful sleep beneath the starlight. And of course, waking up to the sun’s golden warmth was just the icing on the cake! My stay at Genting Dream was remarkable from the start – from the luscious sea-facing staterooms to the incomparable entertainment to the tantalizing gastronomic delights, it was a truly unforgettable experience. But the best part of all was the awe-inspiring seascapes – a joy to behold!

GENTING DREAM: Cruise Guide for First-Timers

GENTING DREAM: Cruise Guide for First-Timers

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

The idea of going on a cruise may be intimidating for some because of the cost. Others dismiss it as a retiree’s holiday option. That may be true many years back, but this trend is gradually changing as years roll by.

The rise of more cruise lines, offering different options and encouraging healthy competition, resulted in relatively reasonable cruise rates. Some of these companies are going the extra mile to reach out to the growing number of travelers that are willing to spend on things or experiences that give good value for money by creating themed cruise ships and coming up with innovative itineraries. Genting Dream is one of those that cater to a wide range of guests — friends, families, couples, and even company incentive trips (or sales conference/meeting).

If you will be sailing with Genting Dream soon and it is your first time, this post is for you. We hope this will help you prepare and maximize your cruise experience. Here are the things you can expect.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Packing & Pre-Trip Preparations

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

  • Travel Documents. You need to bring these documents: passport, a photocopy of your passport’s bio page, a copy of your cruise ticket, and a visa (if necessary). If you are a Philippine passport holder, no visa needed because the sail destinations are within Southeast Asia and the homeport is Singapore. If you want a hassle-free purchase transaction, you may present your credit card.
  • Clothes/Outfits. Come on. We know you want to snap as many photos as you can while onboard and during shore excursions. We normally pack two sets of clothes per day: casual for the day activities and smart casual or dressy outfits for the night events, especially if you plan to watch the evening shows or try the fine-dining specialty restaurants. The same goes for footwear. The important thing is that you are comfortable.
  • Toiletries. The stateroom comes with the toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, cotton buds, and tissues. It also has bath towels, hand towels, bathrobes, and hotel slippers.
  • Check-in Luggage. Each passenger can check in more than one luggage without incurring additional fees.
  • Onboard Currency. The default currency while on the ship is the Singapore Dollar (SGD).
  • Onboard Time. Genting Dream follows Singapore time (same as the Philippines) throughout the entire cruise.
  • Dream Cruise Mobile App. Download the App before getting onboard. You can use the App to view ship information, see the daily onboard schedule, check availability of onboard attractions and facilities. You can also use this to send IM to your shipmates, purchase your onboard WiFi package, and review your onboard account statement.

  • Embarkation Process. Genting Dream is homeporting in Singapore at the Marina Bay Cruise Center. Upon arrival at the terminal, look for the baggage drop area for the pieces of luggage you want to check-in. Prepare your travel documents for check-in. After that, you will pass through immigration and then security checks before you can finally board the ship.
  • Checking-in. You need to present your cruise ticket at the check-in counter to get your Access Card that will serve as your cabin keycard and your purchase card for onboard shopping and when dining at specialty restaurants. You can check-in online via the official website from 7 days up to 24 hours prior to the departure date. If you are going on a shore excursion, you also need to present the Access Card when getting off and returning to the ship. Do not lose this card. When you do, relax. Go to the Reception and they will print another one for you after answering SOP questions.
  • Surrender Passport. Upon boarding, the staff will take your passport. Do not panic. You will get it back after the cruise (before you check out).

WELCOME ABOARD!

ATTENTION! Changi Lounge is offering the Fly-Cruise Transfer service, which includes: Seamless bag transfer. End-to-end luggage transfer from Changi Airport Baggage Claim area to the Marina Bay Cruise Terminal to your stateroom! Your luggage will be waiting for you in your cabin. Advance cruise check-in at the lounge. You will have your documents processed in advance and get your Access Card here. Enjoy the lounge amenities. Complimentary buffet, various drink selections, free internet connection, desktop computers, and electrical outlets. It also has meeting rooms, a nap room, and a shower room. You can also explore Jewel while waiting. The lounge is located near the famous Rain Vortex and the Changi Experience Studio. Ground transfer. The transportation to the cruise terminal from the airport is also covered. When you avail of this service, you will skip the check-in process at the Marina Bay Cruise Center and head straight to the immigration process.

Safety Drill

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Before setting sail, there’s a safety drill that everyone is required to participate in. You need to pay attention and familiarize yourself with the ship’s map, especially your Assembly Station (which is indicated on your Access Card), and the emergency exits in case of an emergency. Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory that you will find in your cabin for the safety drill schedule. Ours was held at 9:00 PM.

3 Complimentary Restaurants

This is part of what you paid for when you booked your cruise ticket. You can dine here without incurring additional fees. It’s free-of-charge. Genting Dream has three inclusive restaurant options:

  • Dream Dining Room Lower. It serves either a semi-buffet type or Chinese set menu, depending on the schedule. You may check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory for the info. This is located on Deck 7, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
  • Dream Dining Room Upper. This only serves the Chinese set menu. This is located on Deck 8, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
  • The Lido. This serves Asian and international buffet, including Halal and Indian cuisines. The outdoor area of the restaurant is a 24-hour snack place that also serves morning tea and afternoon tea. This is located on Deck 16, Aft section.

Dream Dining Room Upper and Lower have a ballroom hall-themed setting and floor-to-ceiling windows that afford guests the magnificent views of the ocean.

Note: Alcoholic drinks are not free-of-charge.

You may also try the specialty restaurants! Genting Dream has nine. Charges apply when dining at any of these, but if you are craving any of their offerings, go for it. Here are your options:

  • Umi Uma (Japanese Cuisine and Teppanyaki / Korean BBQ; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Hot Pot (Choice of meat, seafood or vegetarian hot pot; outdoor setting; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Steak; Deck 8, Mid)
  • Seafood Grill by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Seafood; Deck 8, Mid)
  • Gelateria (Homemade Gelato; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Blue Lagoon (Hawker Food / Asian and International; Deck 7, Mid, open 24 hours)
  • Lobby Café (Coffee / Tea / Bread; Deck 6, Mid)
  • Silk Road Chinese Restaurant (Chinese Fine Dining; Deck 6, Forward)
  • Crystal Life Cuisine (Healthy Options; Deck 15, Forward)

Shore Excursions (Shorex)

To put it simply, these are pre-arranged tours at every stop. One of the best things I love about cruising is that you get to visit other countries while enjoying the cruise ship’s amenities and features at the same time.

This time with Genting Dream, we took the weekend getaway package with a stop at Bintan Island in Indonesia. For this stop, there are three Shorex options to choose from: Tanjung Urban Explorer, Scuba Tryout at Trikora Coast, and Bintan Black Coral Leisure Diving. We took the first option which includes Gurun Pasir Busung (sand desert), Telaga Biru (Blue Oasis), and Trily Resort Center Mangrove Forest in the itinerary.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

You can also pull a D-I-Y. It’s up to you. Here are the scenarios:

  • Booking a Shorex. This is the same as joining a guided group tour. You won’t have to worry about getting to one attraction to the next or how much it will cost you because everything, including the meal, will be taken care of for you by the local tour operator partners. You can be assured that you will return to the ship on time.
  • Pulling a D-I-Y. You can travel at your own pace and control your itinerary. It is also a cheaper option. BUT, you need to be aware of the time. Make sure that you return to the port on time or earlier because the ship will not wait for you. It will leave, with or without you.

Whatever you choose, you will be given a small sheet of paper upon disembarkation. This usually contains instructions and the address of the port where the ship is docked. Don’t forget to bring your Access Card and a photocopy of your passport bio page.

Note: Some Shorex options may require a lot of walking or trekking or activities that might not be suitable for those with health issues. Carefully check the itinerary and assess if the tour is viable for you. Also, each tour needs a minimum number of participants. A tour may be canceled if it doesn’t meet the minimum requirement.

Room and Amenities

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Genting Dream has four types of accommodations: Interior Stateroom, Oceanview Stateroom, Balcony Stateroom, and the exclusive suites, collectively referred to as The Palace. Since the ship caters to families and big groups, there are over 100 connecting rooms. About 70 percent of accommodations feature spacious balcony staterooms. Aside from the toiletries and towels, the rooms also have haird ryer, mini-refrigerator, safe, water kettle, complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee, and sugar packets. These are replenished daily as housekeeping do regular cleaning.

The cheapest is the Interior Stateroom. If you want to make the most of the ship’s features, you will probably be spending most of your time outside the room — swimming, sunbathing, eating, playing, shopping, watching shows or going on shore excursions.

Here are some amenities that you can enjoy for FREE:

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

  • Waterslide Park. You have six slide types to choose from — from gentle slopes for the family to steep inclines for the adventurous. Wear proper swimming attire. Follow the rules and the staff on duty for your safety. Located on Deck 20, Aft.
  • Main Pool and Kids Water Park. Located on Deck 16, Mid. You can see the Waterslide Park from here. You can also relax and sunbathe at the Sun Deck on Deck 17, Mid.
  • Crystal Life Fitness. This is the gym. If you don’t want to miss your workout routine, you can do it here. Located on Deck 15. You can also go to the Jogging Track on Deck 17, Forward.
  • Ropes Course. Perfect bonding activity for the family, couples, and groups. Complete the course and punctuate it with the 35-meter zipline, gliding along the side of the ship above the water from Deck 18.
  • Sportsplex. A large outdoor court that can host basketball, tennis, archery, bubble soccer, and other physical games. Located on Deck 19, Aft.
  • Rock Climbing Wall. Wear proper footwear. Located on Deck 18, Aft.
  • Mini-Golf. Nine-hole putting course. Please wear proper sports shoes. Located on Deck 18, Aft.

If you like to shop or bring home some souvenirs, you can get duty-free items from The Dream Boutiques located on Decks 6 and 7. The Dream Store/Souvenir Mart, located on Deck 6, is where you can get Dream Cruises merchandise. If you fell in love with one of the artworks you see inside the ship, you can go to the Art Gallery, located on Deck 8, to purchase a copy of that artwork.

Evening Shows and Events

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The night is as exciting as the day onboard Genting Dream. You can choose from brilliant live production shows brought to you by the award-winning international entertainment team. During our cruise, we have two choices: SONIO – A Tale of Two Dreams and Some Like It Hot. We were able to watch the latter at Zodiac Theatre. You need to reserve your seat for the show at the Box Office on Deck 6 (Mid). You can find the opening hours of the Box Office on the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet provided in your cabin.

If you want to brush up on your moves and still got the energy to dance the night away, let Zouk and Zouk Beach Club orchestrate an unforgettable party for you as it brings the best beats by world-class DJs. Both are located on Deck 17. Zouk is Singapore’s most sought-after nightclub and consistently chosen one of the top ten clubs in the world.

If you booked a 5-night cruise, expect a grand night party on the last night called Dream Night. This usually happens at the pool deck. You can also check out the bars if you just want to have a sip and unwind. Here are some of them: Sun Deck Bar (Deck 17/Mid), Pool Deck Bar (Deck 16/Mid), Red Lion (Deck 7/Mid/24 hours), Bar 360 (Deck 6/Mid), Karaoke (five rooms/Deck 6/Mid), and Bar City, a collection of bars in one area: Johnnie Walker House, Penfolds Wine Vault, Mixt Cocktail Bar, Humidor Cigar Lounge, and Bubbles Champagne Bar (Deck 8/Mid).

Cinema at Sea

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

For movie enthusiasts, you can still watch while on board. Depending on the schedule, here are the places to catch flicks: Zodiac Theatre (Deck 7/Forward), Zouk Beach Club (Deck 17/Aft), and the Lobby (Deck 6/Mid). Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet for the venue and the time.

Yes! You can connect to the internet while at sea. How? Subscribe to WiFi through the Dream Cruises Mobile App. Here are the rates. Note: Rates vary depending on how many days and the package type.

  • Standard: SGD19 – SGD95. Good for e-mail, chat, and social media. You can connect up to two devices.
  • Premium: SGD29 – SGD145. Good for e-mail, chat, social media, and light media streaming. You can connect up to two devices.

Checking Out and Disembarkation

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The day before disembarkation, you will receive a Disembarkation Notice explaining the check out procedure, disembarkation procedure, travel document collection, and baggage collection.

  • If you don’t want to carry your luggage throughout the disembarkation process, you may leave it outside your cabin on or before the specified time. Set aside a small carry on bag for all the important stuff such as your wallet, your travel documents, prescribed medicine, etc. Get your luggage at the Baggage Claim Area after going through the immigration process.
  • Settle your account’s balance before checking out to avoid delays during disembarkation. Reminder: A mandatory gratuity of SGD21 per night is charged to EVERY guest. For guests staying in the suite, it’s SGD26 per night. This rule is not applicable to infants below two years old.

What’s New on Genting Dream — Resorts World Cruises Review

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Find out what’s new and what’s back on board the new Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream!

After having a whale of a time on Dream Cruises’ cruise to nowhere , we were pretty bummed when it ceased operations in March 2022 . Thankfully, it has returned under a new name — Resorts World Cruises !

To find out what’s new and what’s back, we hopped on its inaugural cruise on 15 June 2022. So here’s a preview of what to expect on Genting Dream 🚢.

Click any of the links below to jump straight in .

What’s New  |  On-board Activities  |  Entertainment | Dining Experiences | Accommodation

Pre-boarding Essentials

Resort World Cruises Genting Dream - Singapore Cruise

Before you set sail, here are some pre-boarding essentials to take note of:

1) Mandatory online check-in — closes 24 hours before sailing 2) Take a supervised or tele-supervised ART test and present a negative result — earliest one day prior to sailing 3) Fill up a pre-boarding health questionnaire — on the day of sailing 4) Collect your cruise key card — on the day of sailing 5) Check-in via SafeEntry on the TraceTogether app or token — before boarding the ship

What’s New on Genting Dream

This may be the same ship under Dream Cruises but we’ve sussed out the new stuff.

1) Immersive Activities with Performers

People posing in Brazilian Carnival Dance - Genting Dream

This was one thing I really loved about the cruise. Especially when I spotted my on-board dance instructor on the big stage performance just a couple of hours later!

People Performing on Stage - Genting Dream

The entertainment organisers wanted to create an immersive experience for guests to “dive” into, so guests could interact with the performers even when they were off stage.

An afterparty was held at the dance floor of Zouk Beach Club so the fun doesn’t end when the performance does.

People Dancing at Zouk Night Club - Singapore Cruise

Unfortunately, my dance instructor recognised us so we couldn’t escape the awkward dancing 😅 but at least we still had a great time!

2) Foam Party at Sea

People Partying with Foam - Genting Dream

For those who just want to party (but with an extra kick), here’s a brand new activity: foam party at sea!

Equipped with a giant foam spraying machine, gigantic floats, and water guns, we had a blast blowing foam at each other for two hours and imagining it was snow in hot, humid Singapore.

Don’t worry about the aftermath too. There will be towels provided to help you dry off before you head on to your next activity.

3) World’s First Internationally Halal-certified Kitchen on a Cruise

Genting Dream is not the first cruise ship to serve halal food, but it’s the first with an internationally halal-certified kitchen.

Halal-Certified Buffet - Genting Dream

This is based on OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) and SMIIC (The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards. The cruise also holds a vegetarian certification by Global Vegetarian Certification Services.

Man in Halal Lift - Singapore Cruise

We even went behind the scenes and discovered that there are dedicated timings and lifts to deliver the food.

From the way the food is prepared and delivered, to the way utensils are washed after — everything is segregated so there is no chance of cross-contamination at all!

While this doesn’t really affect me personally, it helps give my Muslim friends peace of mind when dining on a cruise 🙂.

On-board Activities

Most of the facilities and activities are similar to the previous Dream Cruises, so here’s a recap of what you can expect on this one.

Girl Bowling - Genting Dream

Rain or shine, these are some activities that you can do: arcade, bowling, karaoke, t-shirt or tote bag painting workshops, and workout classes. But prepare to fork out some cash for certain activities.

Boy Painting T-shirt - Singapore Cruise

For example, bowling costs S$10 per game and it’s S$22 to buy a t-shirt to paint on — but at least you’ll get to keep it! We also recommend booking slots for the karaoke room early in advance because demand is really high.

People at Brazilian Carnival Dance Class - Singapore Cruise

If you’re looking to save a few bucks, try the free workout classes instead! Choose from yoga to a couple of dance classes like funk line dancing, hip hop dance, Brazilian carnival dance, and traditional flamenco dance.

We didn’t have time to try them all so we went for the Brazilian carnival dance where we learned different types of dances like the salsa and samba. It’s a one-hour class so expect a lot of hip-shaking, spinning, and sweating. Remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!

People at Waterslide Park - Genting Dream

While we can’t splash around in the sea, we can definitely do so at the on-board waterslide park. There are six different slides to choose from — my personal favourite being the donut-shaped slide which opens up mid-way, allowing you a glimpse of the blue sky before diving back to darkness and into the water.

Girl in Hot Tub - Singapore Cruise

Besides the water slides, there are also pools and hot tubs for you to swim and “chill” in leisurely.

People on High Obstacle Course - Singapore Cruise

But if you don’t want to get wet, try the ziplines, rock climbing wall, high obstacle course, mini-golf, ping pong, or even giant chess.

Girl Playing Mini-golf - Genting Dream

You could even set up a friendly basketball match in the SportsPlex too.

Girl Playing Basketball at SportsPlex - Singapore Cruise

Or dance and party your hearts out to popular hits played by DJs all through the night at Zouk Beach Club.

Party on Dance Floor - Genting Dream

Bonus — Visit the Captain’s Bridge

Controls at Captain's Bridge - Singapore Cruise

Before covid hit, there were organised tours to the captain’s bridge — a control room where the captain and his crew navigate the ship.

Girl Looking at Captain's Bridge from Viewing Room - Singapore Cruise

But due to social distancing restrictions, the tours stopped and we don’t have that luxury anymore. So we were actually glad to discover this hidden gem on board to find out what it’s like!

Girl Looking at Ship Replica in Captain's Bridge Viewing Room - Singapore Cruise

Head up to deck 15 via the lift (forward lobby) and walk past Crystal Life fitness. Turn left and walk all the way to the end. You’ll find a small, hidden room with a clear view of the captain’s bridge, plus a really cool mini replica of the ship to admire!

Entertainment

Couple Doing Balancing Act - Genting Dream

Every day, a newsletter would be delivered to your cabin — with various show and programme schedules so you can plan your day to catch them all!

*Note: The timings are in local (SG) time.

Dance Performance - Singapore Cruise

One highlight not to be missed is definitely the Yin.Yang performance at the Zodiac Theatre. It blends eastern and western entertainment, featuring a world-class array of performances from balancing acts to contemporary dances.

Singing Performance - Genting Dream

I was deeply impressed by one performer in particular, Tong Shaohan, who wowed us with his unique double vocals — singing both female and male parts in a duet.

We were truly shocked, yet in awe when we found out this beautifully dressed lady who sang in a high-pitched voice turned out to be an extremely talented man.

*Pro-tip: Arrive earlier as doors close 10 minutes before showtime and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dream Boys Performance - Singapore Cruise

Apart from the Yin.Yang show, we also had a sneak peek of Dream Boys (which isn’t new), but is set to make a comeback sometime in July.

Dining Experiences

On the Genting Dream, there are more than 20 dining options including restaurants, cafes and bars — not all are free though, so take note!

Inclusive Restaurants — Complimentary

The Lido Halal Food Buffet - Genting Dream

These are the places where you can eat your fill without any charges.

As mentioned above, Genting Dream has an internationally halal-certified kitchen. However, it’s only limited to food items in The Lido restaurant.

Jain Food Buffet - Genting Dream

But don’t fret because there are still plenty of cuisines to choose from, such as Western, Chinese, and even Jain — for vegetarians with a strict diet of not consuming any food produced underground (including potatoes and carrots).

Girl Eating Dim Sum - Singapore Cruise

For other non-halal options, there’s also the Dream Dining Room Lower and Upper which serve Western and Chinese menus respectively.

*Note: Check the daily newsletter for restaurant breakfast, lunch, and dinner timings. You’ll also be charged an extra S$15 for a second meal during the same meal period.

Specialty Restaurants — Charges Apply

Chef Cooking Food at Umi Uma - Singapore Cruise

The food might be more pricey (from S$60), but speaking from experience, it’s really worth it! During our time on the cruise, we tried two specialty restaurants: Umi Uma (Japanese teppanyaki ) and Bistro (Western).

We ordered the Emperor (steak and seafood) and Samurai (chicken and salmon) set from Umi Uma where the chef cooked our dishes before us. The meat was cooked perfectly and not chewy at all! The salmon also had a flavourful, buttery taste 😋.

Umi Uma Meal with Steak and Fish - Genting Dream

At Bistro, we had a full four-course meal with a seafood salad appetiser, pumpkin soup, and a choice of seafood tower or braised beef cheeks, before ending it off with some sweet panna cotta!

Girl Eating Seafood and Beef - Singapore Cruise

Other dining places include Silk Road Chinese Restaurant, Hot Pot, Lido Outdoor Hotpot and Grill, and Crystal Life Cuisine.

*Pro-tip: Reserve in advance as restaurants can be fully booked during peak hours.

Cafes and Bars — Charges Apply

Girl Holding Cocktail - Genting Dream

Besides restaurants, you can grab some light meals at cafes like Lobby Cafe and Blue Lagoon, or even cool down at Gelateria with some homemade gelato.

There are also various bars all around the cruise for alcohol-lovers — open all day till late. Check out Bar 360 for drinks and live music, Mixt for its innovative cocktails, or Tributes which has indoor and outdoor seating coupled with entertaining performances.

Accommodation

Genting Dream offers various room options, from balcony to oceanview staterooms and even palace suites.

Balcony Deluxe Stateroom

Balcony Deluxe Stateroom on Cruise - Singapore Cruise

We stayed in a Balcony Deluxe Stateroom which consisted of a queen-sized bed, a large sofa, a bathroom, and of course, a balcony overlooking the sea. To be honest, I was really surprised by how spacious the room is.

Bathroom with Bath tub - Singapore Cruise

We were also lucky to find a bathtub in our bathroom (apparently, not every room has it) and the dual-tap sink was way bigger than the one in my home.

Sunset View on Cruise - Genting Dream

But the best part of the room would have to be the balcony — where we got a gorgeous view of the sunrise.

Cost: From ~S$550/pax for three nights

Palace Suite

We didn’t have time to tour the Palace Suite but this is what it’ll look like:

Palace Suite Room on Cruise - Singapore Cruise

It looks pretty similar to the Balcony Deluxe Stateroom, but the private balcony is twice as big! Staying in a palace suite also gives guests certain perks like access to exclusive restaurants and programmes, as well as a 24-hour butler service 😏.

Cost: From ~S$1,100/pax for three nights

Is Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream Worth Checking Out?

Resorts World Cruises Main Deck - Genting Dream

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been on a cruise (I’m talking about 10 years ago-long), so I was really excited to just hop onto a ship once again!

I was glad that the water slides still remained and I could have fun like a kid again without any reserve. Being older now, I could also appreciate the fine dining experience of a full-course meal and of course, drinking alcohol 🍷.

Girl Eating Breakfast Buffet - Singapore Cruise

The halal-certified food also didn’t taste any different from usual and I stuffed myself with plenty of different options. The highlight of my cruise though was interacting with the performers when they weren’t on stage and discovering more about their culture.

Fun fact: Do you know why Brazilians dance so well? According to my Brazilian dance instructor, Gabrielle, most kids there start learning from 10 years old!

Girl on Balcony with Sea View - Genting Dream

With Resorts World Cruises as a new cruise line, we now have more options to set sail from Singapore’s ports. Although we didn’t dock anywhere this time, the automatic time change when we were near Indonesia made us feel like we were overseas.

Starting 1 July, the cruise will also sail internationally to Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand! You can make your reservations online with prices starting from ~S$149 per person (book by 3 July 2022) 🤩.

GENTING DREAM Cruise Review: Everything you Need to know

Redefining Your Level of Luxury Cruising Experience

Table of Contents

N obel laureate Thomas Eliot once wrote this popular line, “ the journey, not the arrival matters, ” which applies to our day-to-day experiences. Today, we take a closer look into this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we recently enjoyed onboard Genting Dream Cruise Ship.

Genting Dream Cruise Review

Not everyone gets to experience what it’s like to live on a cruise ship. We used to think that cruising is just for those who have gone through retirement, reaping the rewards of hard work and perseverance, but the truth is sailing on a cruise ship is for everyone—young and old.

Luckily, Team Out of Town , along with other Pinoy travel bloggers, got invited to spend three days and two nights inside a Genting Dream cruise ship last September.

Inside the Luxury Cruise Ship

Genting Dream is touted as the first Asian-oriented luxury cruise ship that considers Singapore as its home port. It’s a 1,100-feet long, 130-feet wide, and can accommodate 3,400 passengers.

Genting Dream Cruise Ship

It boasts many boutiques, bars, restaurants, and other attractions distributed in its 19 decks including a rock-climbing wall, a spa and fitness complex, a private clubhouse, a mini-golf course, an outdoor promenade deck, and a waterslide park among others. The brand under which it is a part of, Dream Cruises, has received different accolades last year including recognition by the Global Times as the “ Best Preferred Cruise Brand for Families ” and during the 2018 Asian Cruise Forum as “ Asia’s Best Cruise Ship ”. It was also included in the list of “ Top 10 Large Resort Ships ” made by the 2018 Berlitz Cruising and Cruise Guide.

GENTING DREAM Cruise Guide

In this article, I will share with you my experience inside the Genting Dream starting from the boarding process, the accommodation, down to the different onboard and shore excursion activities and dining options. But before I show you the highlights of our adventure, here are important steps you need to remember before you set foot on the cruise ship.

PRE-TRIP PREPARATION

Get the fly cruise transfer service.

It was actually not my first time to cruise, and while there may be some exhausting experience during check-in process where air and sea travel converge, the check-in at Changi Lounge at the Jewel Changi Airport was seamless thanks to the Fly Cruise Transfer Service.

Changi Lounge

While this is completely optional, I find this convenient. The transfer service package includes a hassle-free luggage transfer which means that from your luggage check-in in Manila, you can have your luggage delivered to your respective cabin. It also grants you exclusive access to the Lounge where you can claim your stateroom key card. The transfer service will make sure that you can get to Marina Bay Cruise Centre terminal in time for check-in.

Holiday in Luxury with Genting Dream and Singapore Airlines

Genting Dream Fly Cruise with Singapore Airlines available until March 31, 2020.

What’s amazing about this trip is you get to decide the routes depending on your budget. Feel free to choose from 3 unique roundtrip Singapore cruises until March 31, 2020 , aimed to give you inspirational voyages at sea:

5 Night Southeast Asian Splendour – Rates start from USD 543/person

Sailing to Nha Trang – Ho Chi Minh | Surabaya – North Bali | Penang – Phuket – Langkawi – Kuala Lumpur | Ko Samui – Bangkok

3 Night Cruise Escapades – Rates start from USD 443/person

Sailing to Penang – Phuket | Penang – Langkawi | Melaka – Langkawi | Langkawi – Phuket

2 Night Weekend Getaways – Rates start from USD 315/person

Sailing to Melaka | Kuala Lumpur | Bintan Island

For more information about this exciting promotion, you can visit any local travel agency. Promotion is valid until December 31, 2019 . For inquiries, call (02) 836 6080 or email [email protected]. [ more details ]

Boarding Process

If you did not avail of the Fly Cruise transfer service, you will have to proceed to the Marina Bay Cruise Center to board and embark. Make sure you have prepared all the necessary travel documents before you head to the check-in counter. Upon arrival at the check-in area, go to the lane designated to your cabin class and be ready to present your cruise ticket and other travel documents. You must pass through security screening and present your access card. Once cleared by immigration, you may then board the cruise ship and start your vacation.

Checking-in Process

To secure your stateroom key card, present your confirmed cruise ticket at the counter. The stateroom key card is a four-in-one card that acts as an onboard identity card, onboard charge card, gangway security pass, and cabin access key card. In case you lost your keycard, you can immediately report it at the cruise reception for replacement. Online check-in can be done 7 days up to 24 hours in advance prior to departure. There are designated counters for guests who have checked in online.

Provide your Credit Card Info / Cash Deposit

It is not mandatory that you show your credit card/debit card or cash deposit to establish that you have an account onboard. But, pre-authorization will help faster Express check-out and final settlement of your account on the last day of your cruise.

Depositing your Passport

You need to surrender your passport before boarding the ship. You need not worry since you will be able to claim it the night before you checkout.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO BRING

Travel documents.

First things first, make sure you have the following documents before leaving: your passport, a photocopy of your passport’s bio page, a copy of your cruise ticket, and a visa (if applicable). Also take note that the currency while on the ship is in Singapore Dollar, but don’t worry! Money changer is also available onboard.

You’re not spending the rest of the trip inside the ship, so make sure to bring lightweight clothes for daytime activities and shore excursions in Singapore and Indonesia. Remember that the ship only allows 2 pieces of personal luggage on board.

If you plan to dine in specialty restaurants or attend night parties, don’t forget to pack smart casual wear and appropriate shoes. Always prioritize comfort over looks, but if you can strike a balance between fashionable and convenience – much better.

Time Onboard

Singapore follows the same time zone as ours (GMT+8), so time onboard will be the same time in the Philippines but will change when the ship docks in other countries like Thailand.

Dream Cruises Mobile Application

For convenience and up to date information on daily events and activities, make sure to download the Dream Cruise mobile app before getting onboard. The app provides important information about the vessel, daily events and activities, spa treatments and dining reservations. You can also use the app to check on your bill. The Dream Cruises app is now available for iPhone and Android.

Mandatory Safety Drill

Before the ship begins its sail on the first day, you need to take part in the safety drill to better prepare you for unwanted circumstances.

This will help you familiarize the emergency exits and assembly station nearest you. The drill usually takes place at around 21:00. Be aware that there are rules that you need to observe on board to keep everyone safe during the cruise.

Shore Excursions (Shorex)

What I love joining the cruise is that we also get to enjoy multiple destinations with one packing. To enjoy your holiday, there are pre-arranged tours at every stop in case you missed making your arrangements before the trip. Another advantage of booking a Shorex is that you don’t have to worry traveling on your next destination and the cost.

Shore Excursion in Bintan Indonesia

During the recent trip with Genting Dream, we were given three Shorex options which includes the Tanjung Urban Explorer, Scuba Tryout at Trikora Coast, and Bintan Black Coral Leisure Diving. The tour cost usually starts at SGD5O and lasts up to 8 hours.

Shore Excursion at Telaga Biru in Bintan Indonesia

We took the first option which includes Gurun Pasir Busung where we admired the famous Indonesia sand dunes – which is an Instagrammers haven. We also stopped by at the Telaga Biru known for its blue lake, and had a little taste of paradise at the Trily Resort Center Mangrove Forest.

If you have missed pre-booking, you can book tours onboard via the Dream Cruises app or through dedicated Shore Excursions & Cruise Consultant. For more options, head over at www.dreamcruiseline.com.

What’s Inside the my Cabin

The ship is an utter surprise, because it isn’t only big – it’s lavishly decorated with a dash of modern touch in it. They house various accommodation for guests, with 1,680 cabins, 1,278 outdoor cabins and 3,360 passenger cabins spread over two exclusive floors. Not to mention, the Casino area is scattered everywhere! You can even walk by at some slot games from all the corners of the ship. Talk about accessibility!

Genting Dream Balcony Stateroom

For discerning passengers, you can book among their 142 suites featuring a ‘highly personalized’ European-style butler service and other special privileges. There are also spacious staterooms – featuring tastefully decorated private balconies and plush beddings – and I happen to stay in one of these rooms.

Inside my Balcony Stateroom

I’m pretty amazed with its well-arranged 20 square meter cabin with a queen bed, a sofa, Satellite TV, coffee and tea making facilities, mini-refrigerator, video-on-demand options for free. and a balcony which provides a fantastic view of the ocean, complete with table and chairs — a perfect place for me to write while enjoying the sunset.

My Balcony Stateroom

They have provided toiletries from shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, towels, robes, and slippers.

Another thing I noticed was that the room smells good and it was clean. They also provide two bottled water daily.

There are several dining options onboard serving array of international cuisine but only three of them are included on the cruise package.

Dream Dining Room Upper: Tired from wandering around the ship? Head over at the Deck 7 at the Aft section of the ship, where most guests dine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not to worry with food menu options, as they offer both Asian and international cuisine with menus rotated daily. As for Chinese cuisine, their Cantonese style dim sum or two noodle dishes are highly recommended! There’s also regional menu served for dinner every evening, where mostly ordered dishes include the spicy Szechuan dishes to hometown Hakka staples.

Dream Dining Room Lower: If the Room Upper is crowded, the best thing to do is go to Room Lower and try their semi-buffet style Western food. Here, they serve the usuals — the cold cuts, cereals, some traditional English fare, and Chinese dishes. As for the breakfast, try their omelet with plenty of selection of toppings, scrambled eggs, sunny side up to boiled eggs which comes in a mini egg cup.

Here at the Room Lower, you don’t get to indulge in quality meals, but you also get to have a glimpse of the helipad and the bow of the cruise ship from the windows.

More Dining Options at Genting Dream

Another memorable treat for all Japanese cuisine lovers is dining at Umi Uma where Chefs put on an entertaining teppanyaki performance for their guests. They will be juggling and cooking food in front of you, and is one of the highlights of the dining experience. It’s located at Deck 8, and features three unique dining concepts, which includes the traditional cooking show performed over the Iron Plate tables.

Garden Salad with Japanese dressing

Another favorite in the ship is Bistro by Mark Best — a contemporary steakhouse focusing Australian beef, lamb and seafood. This dining area is perfect for romantic dinner, and for those who wanted to have a taste of dishes curated by an expert culinary team.

Silk Road Cabaret - Genting Dream

The Lido – Indulge yourself with an extensive spread of Indian cuisine at Lido located on Deck 16 at the Aft Section. In its U-shaped room, you’ll see multiple offerings from international cuisines like Chinese and Western delicacies, 24-hour snacks, coffee, and tea, and a dessert section filled with sweet treats such as frozen yogurt with fresh fruit.

The Lido Restaurant

In case you just wanted to have a small meal in the afternoon, you can visit the bakery onboard offering freshly baked pastries and cakes, and some smaller meal options. If you head outside, you’ll see the World Grill, known for their flame-grilled steaks, burgers, and hotdogs. Try it! View outside is definitely a must-see.

Top Deck Attractions

Too lazy to go out for a stopover? Not a problem at the Genting Dreams. The ship isn’t only heavy on dining but is also jampacked with family activities as well. There are different levels of water slides, mini-golf, a rope course where you walk into an obstacle while overlooking the side of the boat, a 35-meter zip line and a view 18 decks above the sea, and a 23-feet rock-climbing wall. You can also head over at the arcade for some indoor fun.

Ropes Course and Zip Line

There’s also the Sportsplex, a large outdoor court on Deck 19 where you can play basketball, tennis, and other games.

Wellness Facilities

Let’s not forget to get ourselves pampered once in a while. Luckily, Genting Dreams also houses the Crystal Life Spa and the Crystal Life Asian Spa which offers soothing massages, therapeutic remedies, and Western and Asian treatments for their guests. In case you wanted to have your hair done, you can visit The Gentleman’s Barber and Le Salon are also available for passengers to receive personal grooming such as hair or nail treatment.

If you want to sweat out a bit, a gym is also available at the cruise ship, equipped with only the quality equipment.

Evening Shows and Events

Cap off your day with one of Genting Dream’s exciting live performances at Zodiac Theatre located at deck 7. To skip the hassle, you can watch free-performances through the Dream Cruises app. If you’re lucky, you get to watch circus acts and dance numbers depending on the schedule.

Some Like It Hot Show

Fortunately, we were able to watch one of the shows at Zodiac Theatre called Some Like It Hot. It was a very festive show, exuding a ‘50s and ‘60s vibe theme with a modern twist. And the featured dancers aren’t just ANY dancers! They are award-winning ballroom dance champions, joined by singers Tatyana and David for a unique and world-class performance. There were foxtrot and waltz numbers which makes this a must-see in the cruise.

Band Performing Onboard Genting Dream

Cinema at Sea

If you’re more of a movie person and want to have some alone time, then head over at the Zouk BeachClub for top-rated films with an open-air surround sound and the experience of being under the stars. There’s also on in the lobby, and at the Zodiac Theatre where they feature the latest 3D blockbuster flicks in hi-fi sound.

Shopping at The Dream Boutiques

If you’re up for some shopping spree, the Dream Boutiques, the Dream Store, and the Souvenir Mart might just be the place for you. For the Dream Boutiques, feel free to splurge yourself with some of the world’s top luxury brands and designer goods at sea. Now that’s impressive! There’s a selection of prestige watches, fine jewelry, leather goods and more.

For caps, t-shirt, goodies, gifts, and other merch, head over the Dream Store and the Souvenir Mart.

Zouk Beach Club

Genting Dreams is an all-in-one entertainment venue – from the karaoke area at Silk Road on deck 6, the Zouk Beach club, an outdoor beach club completed with cabanas and cocktails, plunge pool and pool tables, where guests can enjoy DJs and live music, with of course, a signature cocktail drinks on hand.

No need to worry about your latest social media updates – as there is a Satellite Internet connection available on Dream Cruises. But of course, you can buy Wifi packages straight from Dream APP to skip the queue.

Checking Out and Disembarkation

This is where the Dream Cruises app comes in handy again. You can check out your account and settle your bills before heading to the assembly area.

Important Tips and Reminders

Board as early as possible.

Everybody hates a long queue, agree? We suggest you board earlier so you can wander around the ship without being crowded yet.

Know the daily activity schedule

Planning your activities for the whole trip would save your time and effort. Download the Dream Cruises app and get updated on the latest event and activity you can enjoy. In addition, there is also a daily newsletter placed outside your room for more information.

Book activities in advance

You don’t want to feel disappointed if the restaurant or an event in the ship is already fully-booked, right? It’s best to book some activities and do some reservations like the Shore excursions on the mobile app to make sure you enjoy your trip without having to wait for a seat to open.

Read the Dream Daily newsletter

It’s always good to get an updated round-the-clock schedule and activities on the ship, be it from scheduled fireworks, dining schedule, or a free performance from their onboard entertainers.

Bring clothes which are perfect for party time, separate shirts for some outdoor fun, and formal ones if you’re going on a romantic dinner in one of their fine-dining restaurants. It’s also best to pack light to save some luggage space and avoid additional fees.

Here’s a useful tip: To save more space, try using ziplock bags or packing cubes so you can stay organized throughout the trip. To avoid seasickness, bring some meds just in case.

The Verdict

Even if you’re not into spending loads of money for international travels, you’ll now that alternatives such as cruise are all the rage.

GENTING DREAM Cruise Experience

It may have a perception of being expensive, but in reality, it’s worth every cent, especially if you’re traveling with your family. Cruising with Genting Dreams is much more affordable compared to other luxury cruise lines, but does not compensate for their quality of service and experience.

At the end of the day, it will always be the shared experiences that matter most.

World Dream Balcony Deluxe Stateroom Review (With Bathtub)

World dream super seacation cruise to nowhere.

The World Dream Super Seacation emphasizes on 100% fresh air throughout the ship under STB’s CruiseSafe certification . This doesn’t mean that World Dream does not operate without air-conditioning, but it’s more on fresh air used throughout the ship rather than recycled air. Nevertheless, what better way to get 100% fresh air than to get a balcony in my room? For this trip, I had the privilege to try out the Balcony Deluxe Stateroom .

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Balcony Deluxe Stateroom

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

World Dream’s Balcony Deluxe Staterooms are at least 22 square meters big laid out elongated from the corridor to the balcony. These are available from Deck 8 through to Deck 15, and are mostly clustered around the middle of the ship.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The flat-screen TV in the room greets me by name when I switch it on.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The Balcony Deluxe Stateroom can also be triple or quadruple sharing. Each cabin would have a single or double sofa bed, and for quad-sharing staterooms, there would also be a ceiling Pullman bed.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The sofa bed flips open like this when there’s a third person in the room.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Here’s the space you get when the sofa bed is opened up.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The closet has slippers, a laundry bag for laundry service, and an in-room safe.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Bedding for the sofa bed is stored here.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Ample hangers are available inside the closet.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

There is a table across from the sofa bed where most room amenities are.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

There is a coffee and tea making station, with the kettle’s socket integrated with the station like a dock.

2 bottles of mineral water are provided in the room. Additional bottles are chargeable, but remember that the tap water in the cabin is drinkable, so just refill it from there. Alternatively, head up to Deck 16 to The Lido for 24 hour free snacks and drinks.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

There is also a room service menu and a mini bar package, since the mini bar comes empty. But you really should be dining at restaurants for the cruise experience in my opinion. Also, head up to Deck 16 to The Lido for 24 hour free snacks and drinks.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Two masks are also provided in the stateroom.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The balcony consists of two seats with a side table. Smoking is permitted on the balcony , but remember to close the doors.

Fun fact: The cabin air-conditioning automatically switches off when you open the balcony door. You have to switch the aircon back on again after you return to the cabin from the balcony.

Balcony Deluxe Stateroom Toilet and Bathroom

The attached toilet in the Balcony Deluxe Stateroom is very spacious.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

There is a double sink in the toilet.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

Toiletries are placed on the counter above the sink.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

There is also a generic 3-in-1 soap in the shower and bathtub .

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The key difference between the Balcony Deluxe Stateroom and Balcony Stateroom is the availability of the bathtub . The Balcony Stateroom which most passengers get from upgrade promotions come with a standing shower without a bathtub.

Towels are hung by the side rack.

The water from the tap is drinkable.

Charging Power Sockets

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

By the bed side, there are both USB and 3-pin power sockets available.

Pro-tip: The 3-pin socket charges up your phone and devices faster than the USB socket, so use that if you need a faster day charge. If you are charging your devices overnight, both sockets are fine.

Tracking the Cruising Path

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The TV features the route of the World Dream cruise to nowhere.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

The World Dream cruise to nowhere sends you off to the waters of West Malaysia along the Straits of Malacca to float around.

genting dream cruise balcony cabin

And about 2 hours since departure from Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, hello Malaysia .

Overall, I had a great stay inside the Balcony Deluxe Stateroom which was sufficiently spacious, and with fresh air from the sea on the balcony allowing me to see Malaysia and Indonesia from a distance.

6 reasons you’ll want to book a balcony cabin on your next cruise

Is it worth paying extra for a balcony cabin?

As someone who has written about cruising for more than two decades , I have heard that question a lot, and I know where I stand on it: Absolutely .

You'll almost always pay more for a balcony cabin on a ship than for a cabin that just has a window — the latter being known in industry lingo as an "ocean-view" cabin. But often, it's not outrageously more. For example, at the time of this story's publishing, fares for balcony cabins on some fall 2024 cruises out of Galveston, Texas, were just 7% more than fares for ocean-view cabins. (Specifically, that was the differential on seven-night sailings in October 2024 on Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas).

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Ocean-view cabins, in turn, were running about 29% more than windowless inside cabins — the third major category of cabins you'll find on ships.

These differentials aren't insignificant, of course. For many vacationers on a tight budget, though, an extra 29% or even 7% for a room can be a deal breaker.

Related: 8 cabin locations on cruise ships that you definitely should avoid

In addition, some people with extra money to spend would rather splurge on shore excursions or other extra-charge items, such as shipboard spa treatments, than on a higher-priced cabin. That makes perfect sense to me. What is most important to one person on a vacation may be different from what is important to another person.

However, here are six things you'll get out of a balcony cabin that I personally think make it worth the extra cost if you have the money to spare.

The fresh air

For me, this is the big reason to get a balcony cabin. At any time of the day — or night — you can slide open your balcony door and breathe in the fresh ocean air. You'll also be able to hear the sounds of the waves as they crash against the bow of your ship. It's a wonderfully soothing, rhythmic sound — so soothing that it can lull you to sleep.

Even on cruises in cold weather, there's nothing quite like stepping out on a balcony for a few minutes or more to soak in the salty breeze. It's invigorating.

The fresh air available on balconies also can be a lifesaver — at least for your sanity — should you find yourself confined to your cabin due to an illness. That can happen if you come down with something like norovirus or COVID-19 on a ship. This happened to cruisers quite a bit during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many of the people who were isolated in cabins without balconies for days weren't thrilled with the lack of access to fresh air.

I can attest personally to the fact that it isn't a great situation to be stuck in a room that doesn't have a balcony for days. In late 2020, I was isolated in a cabin without a balcony for four days during a COVID-19-related ship quarantine, even though I wasn't sick. I would have paid just about anything during those days for even the smallest bit of outdoor space.

The ultimate privacy

Cruise ships can be crowded places . Even on luxury ships, which generally have more space per passenger than mass-market vessels, you'll likely be sharing the pool deck with dozens or even hundreds of other people. On some of the biggest vessels, such as Royal Caribbean's giant new Icon of the Seas , you'll compete for deck chairs with literally thousands of others. Private, it isn't — nor is it often quiet. The pool decks of cruise ships can be noisy places.

If you have a balcony cabin, you're always guaranteed an outdoor space where you can lounge for a few hours in complete privacy. And, in general, it will be a quiet outdoor space. While you will sometimes hear the sounds of other passengers nearby on their own balconies, for the most part, it's a much more serene experience than being up on the top deck.

The best views

Balcony cabins don't just offer you access to an outdoor space. They typically also offer you a great view of the outdoors from inside your cabin.

This is because the doors leading to balconies in balcony cabins usually are made almost entirely of glass running from floor to ceiling. Often, a balcony cabin will have both a floor-to-ceiling glass door leading to the outside as well as floor-to-ceiling windows that make for what is, in effect, an outward-facing wall made entirely of glass. Ocean-view cabins without balconies, by contrast, often have just a single window. Some just have portholes.

The result is that you'll generally have a much better view of the outdoors from the inside of a balcony cabin than from the inside of an ocean-view cabin.

The chance for wildlife encounters

Speaking of the view, you're going to be able to see passing wildlife much better from a balcony cabin than an ocean-view cabin. If you stand at the edge of your balcony railing, you'll be able to twist your head side-to-side to get a 180-degree view of the passing waters. That's two or three times the field of vision that you'll get from gazing out a cabin window.

I've found balcony cabins to be particularly wonderful to have in wildlife-filled destinations such as Alaska, where ships sometimes pass such spectacular creatures as whales in the water or bears along the shoreline. Often, the captain of a vessel will spot such animals first and then make a public announcement to passengers to head to the sides of the ship to look. If you're in a balcony cabin (and on the correct side of the ship), you'll be gazing down upon these sights in no time.

The chance for a romantic dinner

There's nothing that says romance like a private dinner for two under the stars. And that's exactly what you can do on your balcony on many cruise ships, with the waves as a background soundtrack.

Some upscale lines will arrange an elegant, private dinner for two on your balcony — think white tablecloths, multiple courses, the works — at no extra charge. Among mass-market lines, Princess Cruises offers an Ultimate Balcony Dining experience at an extra charge that brings a four-course meal, Champagne and cocktails or a glass of wine. In the case of the Princess offering, you'll even get fresh flowers and a (flameless) candle on your table.

The perfect spot to watch a port arrival

I'm a big fan of getting up early to watch as cruise ships pull into ports. In some places, such as New York and Sydney, the experience is a highlight of the trip. The arrival into New York, in particular, is one of the great cruise experiences. Your ship will glide under the giant Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge (often with just feet to spare) before passing the Statue of Liberty and the skyline of lower Manhattan.

But as spectacular as they are, these arrivals into ports often take place very early in the morning, before you (or at least your bed-head hair) may be ready to go out into the world. What's great about having a balcony is that you don't have to get dressed and ready for the day to watch a port arrival. You can just roll out of bed in your jammies and head out on the balcony.

Of course, you have to be on the correct side of the ship to get certain views. Arriving in New York, there is an allure to watching the arrival from both sides of a vessel. From the port side, you'll get the best view of the Statue of Liberty. But the starboard side brings you the best views of downtown Manhattan, assuming you're on a vessel heading to a midtown pier.

Bottom line

Balcony cabins cost more than ocean-view cabins or windowless "inside" cabins. But they can be worth the splurge if you're the kind of person who likes a private place to be outdoors during a vacation. No matter how crowded your ship is, you always can escape to your balcony, if you have one, and watch the world go by with few distractions.
