Frequently asked questions
If you’re planning on a multi-city Egyptian adventure, you are most likely to pass through Cairo and Luxor. Both cities are well catered for tourists and there are plenty of accommodation options to suit your style and budget. The Red Sea coast has several resorts to choose from. We can help you tailor an itinerary to your needs.
Allow at least two to three weeks if you plan on exploring Cairo (pyramids), Luxor (Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel) before heading to the Red Sea coast for some R&R – the more time you have, the more you can immerse yourself in enchanting Egypt.
October to April is the best time to visit Egypt, when the sun’s out but it’s not stiflingly hot.
Discover antiquities, learn about the expansive history of Egypt, wander the bustling streets of Cairo, stopping to sip some mint tea and observe the chaotic city scape, float along the Nile River, discover a whole new (underwater) world in the Red Sea – you are really spoiled for choice when you visit Egypt!
No trip to Egypt is complete without visiting Egypt’s ancient wonders. The Pyramid of Giza and the Sphinx can be seen in downtown Cairo, but you will need to travel further afield to see the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel. A package holiday is a great way to ensure you tick off your bucket list!
Light clothing, a hat and sunscreen, water bottle and sunglasses are a must. The heat and the glare can be formidable, so make sure you are prepared! Oh and don’t forget comfortable shoes – you’ll be doing a lot of walking!
If you’re going to travel all the way to Egypt you want to make sure you see the highlights. Cairo is a great starting point for your Egyptian holiday, before heading south along the Nile to Luxor and Aswan. If you want to dip your toes in the Red Sea, travel back up towards Hurghada. Of course, you can go off the beaten track and explore the western desert and Sinai regions as well. Whatever piques your interest, we can tailor a trip for you.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Egypt
- Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Egypt flight deals.
- Consider flying to Borg El Arab International Airport (HBE) if you're headed to the North Coast of Egypt. The airport serves as the leading international entry point for the Nile Delta Region and Alexandria.
- If you are flying from Washington, D.C. to Cairo, you can take direct flights from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Cairo International Airport (CAI). Egypt Air is the only airline that offers nonstop flights.
- Pets are welcome at Hurghada International Airport (HRG). There are two designated pet relief areas: one for domestic travelers in the arrivals hall and one for international travelers in the departures hall.
- Cairo International Airport is a primary hub for Nile Air, Egypt Air, and other airlines. The airport has three terminals, and they are linked by a shuttle. It is the most significant and busiest airport in Egypt. Sun and beach enthusiasts primarily use the airports in Hurghada, Marsa Alam (RMF), and Sharm El Sheikh (SSH).
- If you plan to tour the country in Egypt rather than remaining in one particular city, consider booking open-jaw tickets instead of the standard round-trip ticket. Open-jaw tickets will save you time and money, allowing you to get back to Montreal from a different airport other than your arrival airport.
- Sharm El-Sheikh Airport (SSH) is the gateway to the Sinai Peninsula where the popular resort town that bears its name is located and if you are interested in uncovering the charms of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, there is no better starting point for a flight from the US to Egypt.
- Choose Cairo International Airport (CAI) for your flight from the US to Egypt to gain entry to the capital city in the north. This will also grant you access to the Suez Canal to the east and the pyramids of the Giza plateau to the west as well as being a springboard to the interior regions of the country west of the River Nile.
- The northern coast of Egypt where it abuts the Mediterranean Sea from Sidi Barrani near the Libyan border past Port Said to Al Arish near the border with Israel is covered by Borg El Arab International Airport (ALY), otherwise known as Alexandria Airport. This airport is the main hub for the area, including the Qattara Depression to the west of the city.
- Hurghada International Airport (HRG), or Hurghada Airport, is centrally positioned along the east coast of Egypt on the banks of the Red Sea. From here, you can trek across the Eastern Desert towards the Nile River where it passes through the cities of El Minya, Mallawi and Asyut, and cross it into the central region of the White Desert.
- The oasis at El Kharga is a major rest point between the Nile River to its left and the bulk of the Western Desert to its right. Normally it takes over 7h to drive from Hurghada to the oasis, but this has been made easier by flying directly into El Kharga Airport (UVL).
Top 5 airlines flying to Egypt
I've flown many many times on Northwest and then Delta. The crew on this flight were absolutely the best I've had the pleasure of being looked after by.
Flew first class so everything was great. But maybe because the flights were red eye, no meals were served, just chips. I flew Alaska Air 1st class at 9PM (2 hour flight) and they served beef short rib sliders!
Had to change aircraft due to a faulty door. Surprisingly it only caused about an hour and a half of delay. Delta handled this situation as well as can be expected.
Awful. Flight was continuously getting delayed and gates kept changing without any reason. Flight was delayed for more then 3 hours
Paid premium for Delta only to be on safe but tired old 767 with ancient cabin in mediocre condition. Poor wifi and horrible inflight entertainment. Hardly a premium experience. Should have flown SW and had fun flight crew and no pretense
Our flight to Zurich was delayed by almost 3 hours, so we missed our next flight. There was no indication it would be delayed this much. We were told the gate had changed and then it apparently took over 2 hours to load the "catering" on the plane. We were not compensated in any way for the trouble.
Rated entertainment as Mediocre as there were major problems with the Infotainment system that took probably a half hour for them to fix.
Your crew could maybe answer the call bell at least one of the times I pressed it. I pressed it first time with 2.5 hours left in our flight bc my partner was hungry and wanted a sandwich. We finally got the sandwich with 40 mins left in the flight.
Half the bathrooms assigned to economy were out of action
Delta crushed it. Flight attendant in first was attentive and just never stopped. Honestly one of the best domestic flights I’ve been on.
Overnight flight in the old style Business class, but still very good.
I was in business class, without the business class amenities. Large seat with lots of legroom, but no TV or bed. Food was okay, but I did enjoy the Turkish red wine.
Excellent service and comfort from the moment you check in. Flight crew is hyper focused on making passengers comfortable and at ease. It’s like a flying hotel!
Only chicken as a meat dish through out the flight
Nothing really was great as such. Seen other no name airlines perform better.
Quality of service on board was very inconsistent. FA service primarily seemed robotic and they barely engaged with passengers
I’m unclear why I had to pay extra for assigned seats as Turkish airlines did not honor the seating. We were placed across the aisle from each other on TK 34, and were seated behind one another on TK 694. Because my name was misspelled on e-ticket (Klawiter, instead of Klawitter) I could not log onto website to get the connection gate number in Istanbul. The monitors in the airport were a jumbled mess 1/2 Arabic and 1/2 English.
On line check in needs a lot of improvement. I tried and gave up.
Food not good, flight attendants not the best, not accommodating very ruff
the female flight attendant was racist towards me. I could tell she treated the two other passengers next to me with more softness.
I have been traveling for over 30 years, and this was THE worst experience ever. The guy that was checking in at Dubai, didn’t have any professionalism or curtesy. During the flight, You had to wait a while just to get something to drink. They didn’t transfer all my luggage, even after they made me pay $155 extra for one small gallon of Zamzam water, and that luggage is still missing after three days of my arrival. NEVER AGAIN..,
The flight was cancelled with very little info at the airport. Absolutely mess with no option to reschedule flights without paying fortune for business class.
Despite paying business class, the angle seat was uncomfortable. The crew was just ok. The baggage checkin was a mess at JNB.
The seats were broken, crew didn’t really care about service, boarding was not priority for business class, my bags arrived last
Comfortable flight with decent legroom and good seats. The crew were helpful and courteous and managed well with the stressful boarding and the chaos that’s involved. The food was decent, more than expected from a short flight like this. The only reservation I have was that the crew allowed passengers to board With massive amounts of hand luggage which were piled up on the empty seats next to passengers and and it was a risk to all passengers in the case of turbulence or emergency landing. I’ve never seen this ever on any flights I have boarded with many other airlines.
Flight was supposed to take off Saturday at noon. Bumped for unknown reasons until 2 am, then 9 am, then noon, then we don’t know. Not weather related. Dismal and non existent customer service. No 24/7 relations. Couldn’t get my bag back to attempt to get on another flight until 5pm Saturday. Will never take this airline again!
Greater clarity in organizing line-ups for the various boarding groups would have made it easier for all. Due to the many children, the announcements could not be heard clearly enough, so a simplicity in organization would have helped.
I had a great experience with EGYPTAIR. They offered me to check in my handbag which made it very easy since I use a cane. Thank you to EGYPTAIR crew for making sure everyone is receiving the right services.
First time flying with BA and I will do it again. Staff at airport and on board were very nice and helpful
they are improving. The crew from Charlotte to Tampa was outstanding. SMILING and trying to be helpful with the customers.
Wonderful service and very comfy in the bulkhead in Economy Plus! Delicious food.
The BA team at Sky Harbor is deplorable, full of unnecessary attitude and poor communication. It seems like every member of the team was looking at another to solve the problem, instead of taking agency to do so themselves. I saw no less than 6 altercations with the same gate agent where he threatened to revoke the passengers boarding pass for asking a wildly reasonable question, something as simple as where the cue to board was. I’ve complained to BA before but it seems this isn’t an issue for them, which is very disappointing
Boarding poor in London,ok in Chicago. Don’t like Heatrow/terminal5
It was very good. We got a late start by about an hour and a half. However I worked rather have that than crash. It was purely mechanical. They had our tickets ready when we came off the plane in London for the next leg. The only mishap was when we got to Lisbon my husbands luggage made or bit mine didn't. All was not lost because I did finally get it 2 days later. I was really pleased that they c made the effort.
Leg space was not enough. The meal was not satisfactory.
Liked that my American Airlines status seamlessly transferred to BA so luggage check was free. Flights were on time, boarding quick. Wish they didn’t assign connecting gate so late at Heathrow.
The entire process was flawless and as expected flying first class. The only thing that I have a complaint on...when first boarding, the plane was EXTREMELY cold; then when we were trying to sleep, it was way too hot - just better regulating (especially trying to sleep) would have made it perfect.
- OK plane. Basic accommodations. OK food. The digital window shade wasn't working.
It was a short haul trip, so food and entertainment weren’t a big issue
The plane seemed very dated. The entertainment was very limited. There was a school group on our flight and the crew seemed bothered by them. They were not overly friendly or welcoming.
Ok, but no entertainment. Left late, but made up most of the time.
May be it is not an ITA issue, but the bags took long time to go out.
Good. But there food was poor quality and 95% of movies didn't have English subtitles
I thought they had rebranded themselves in every aspect but it was quite the opposite. The food was terrible the service was sub-par. Overall it was not a good experience.
Service from staff was poor, food choices were limited. Air plane was not clean or hygienic and seemed like not cleaned for days. Seats were uncomfortable.
service from stAff was barely there , food choices were limited. AirPlane was not clean and seemed like it was not cleaned for days.. Seats were very uncomfortable.
I paid for premium seats and the last minute they changed the aircraft for a bigger one, they bumped me to another seat which was NOT at all comfortable for an 11 hour flight, will fight for a refund!!
The landing was catastrophic. I was very scared. I thought it were my last lminues. Pilotes should be more experienced

From the astonishing Egyptian pyramids and artwork in the Louvre, to the dazzling city lights and sights in New York and the stretches of seemingly deserted coastal coves in Thailand, there's nowhere in this world a tour can't take you.
In fact, joining a tour is sometimes the only way to reach a particular place, such as Antarctica or the Inca Trail in Peru. You don't necessarily have to be part of a large group, with many destinations reachable through solo and small group tours. So whether you’re travelling on a shoestring or a Champagne budget, you can always make your holiday that little bit more memorable by adding a tour to your travel plans.

Cairo Airport (CAI)
Flights to Cairo will disembark at Cairo International Airport .
Cairo International Airport (CAI) is located at the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Persian Gulf. The airport is the busiest in Egypt and has three terminals, one of which is undergoing construction and is expected to re-open in 2013.
Sitting amid the colour, hustle and burst of life in Cairo's 14th-century bazaar, the Khan al-Khalili, you can see the historic and contemporary blend that typifies the city. Formation of the metropolis in its modern state began with the conquering by Arab General Amr Ibn Al-Ase for Islam in 641AD. Of course, push west to the Pyramids of Giza and the time warp is even more substantial, you're now at 4000BC. Come back to the centre to Midan Tahrir 'Liberation Square', and you're at the site of the 2011 protests that brought down a president. The push and pull of time is everywhere.
In the vastness of this hectic place it's easy to lose yourself so here's a quick guide to top sites and things to do:
- Ride a felucca on the Nile – for a different perspective on the city from the longest river in the world
- Explore Islamic Cairo – the Khan al-Khalili bazaar is here along with Turkish baths, historic mosques and architecture
- Visit the Egyptian Museum – stuffed with treasures from antiquity, be ready for crowds and touts
- Ramble through Old/Coptic Cairo – Egypt's oldest surviving synagogue, the 9th-century Ben Ezra Synagogue, is fascinating
- Day trip to the Pyramids of Giza – almost subsumed by Cairo, the pyramids don't rise out of empty desert, but this is still a must-see
The average annual rainfall for Cairo, Egypt, is 18mm of precipitation. The wettest month with the highest rainfall is January, with 5mm of precipitation. The driest months with the lowest rainfall are June-October, with 0mm of precipitation.
